Title: [MERIT] Giveaway Thread
Post by: UserU on March 22, 2020, 08:16:29 AM
So recently I ranked up to Full Member and I'm very thankful to those who supported me throughout this journey.

Without further ado, there are 30 Merits at my disposal so submitters up to the Members rank are allowed to participate. Each one is allowed to submit up to two helpful posts/ threads and it's up to my discretion on deeming them Merit-worthy or not.

If your post/ thread was posted in a non-English language, do provide a brief translated summary. And no external (i.e. non-Bitcointalk) contributions.

So let's get the ball rolling!  8)

Congrats on your Full Member achievement.
If you have available smerit to share, I would encourage you to check the LoyceV thread in reputation or the recent thread made by Aakzaki in meta and share your merits.

You have done a great work and we wish you the best in the journey of the ranking. Weldone.

Well-writted threads, I remembered coming across them a few times. Sent you 3 Merits in total.

I do have to give others a chance, hope you understand. :)

Congrats on your Full Member achievement.

Sure, I've sent 1 to AazZaki and to xinrey, since we're both from the same country (M'sia). Despite those local boards receiving less traffic, I appreciate his continuous contributions.

Why, hello again Mrc!

Thanks for the kind words. I can see you're genuinely trying to be a good poster despite a number of criticisms.

So don't worry, come back once you've made some good posts to share and I'll reserve some Merits for you :)

Total 5 Merits sent, 25 remaining.

Congrats on your rank achievement. I think its took too longer to upgrade your rank. Anyway finally you achieved it. Is merit giveaway thread is necessary right now? That means you don't have enough time to read others posts? Only 30 25 merits you have lately and I believe if you just spend a day to read forum posts you will found enough post those are deserve merits. I will suggest please look for quality post instead of merit giveaway. You aren't merit source or you don't have high amount of merits. This isn't something negative about you, just trying to encourage you for read more and find quality post by yourself. I won't mind if this thread open by a merit source or who are holding high amount of smerit and they don't have enough time to look for quality post in case.

Congratulations mate, cheers! If you were able to reach this point, I'm sure reaching higher ranks is not impossible for you as well. Keep up the good work mate :).

Anyway, here's my entry: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5230246.msg53986985#msg53986985 . I don't know if this is your definition of "helpful" but I'm giving a shot. Even I though I'm not the smart type member, I still give my very best advice for those who need it.

Congratulations OP. This is just a start of your journey, Ive checked your post and indeed you are doing you best to help, avoid unnecessary things to comment or post also, much better to post something great than just have posted anything which not needed. But I admire your humor sometime on some topics Ive seen you posted.

I think 30smerits are very generous to be dispose on some quality posts. Make sure to give these two deserving one and I encourage you to give this to lower rank that needed a boost to rank up. Spend wisely.

I truly understand, and I appreciate you see qualities in my posts. Thanks for the merit because some do collect meits but will not give. You truly see the need to help members like us to also rank up for making quality posts. Thanks a lot. What you did also worth merit to be candid. I have sent you one.

You could say that, I was never in a rush to rank up so I just let them come whenever people feel like giving.

I did make a promise sometime back that I would hold a giveaway thread once I have attained FM. Hence this one.

Honestly speaking, I did give some out, albeit way less frequently and I understand that might have surprised some of suddenly appearing out of nowhere. But no offense taken, I do appreciate your feedback and will be more proactive in meriting noteworthy posts next time. After this giveaway, I'll be saving up on the sMerits for a while. :)

Congratulations on achieving this level. I also recently promoted to Full member. Although you have written that you will onl give merits to Member ranks, but i want you to look at one of my post too. Thanks

Thank you, but I'm not in a rush to climb up the ladder. Just taking my own sweet time.

The post you made is indeed helpful, although it's up to redzart to actually check it out or not :D

Thanks. Behind the scenes, I have received a ton of "Your post was deleted" PMs from our lovely mods, haha.

Gotcha, I've sent them and would keep an eye on those who require a neccesary boost. Appreciate your advice!

I don't think people should be creating any sort of merit bounties for new topics, this just encourages people to write low-value "educational" topics that can often be misleading and unintentionally harmful. Or they simply litter the forum with information that was posted countless times before.

Maybe you should instead ask users to submit their old posts that in their mind deserve more merit, instead of creating new ones. This would be more productive for everyone and don't create any disruption.

there is nothing wrong with what you do here but don't you think it is best if you gave those merits away more naturally?
i mean you currently have 2100+ posts which means you must have read thousands of posts when making your posts (assuming you aren't one of those who only reads the subject and burst posts). try finding those good posts among those you read and award them instead.

usually those who start a merit giveaway topic are either too inactive to be able to find good posts or are already doing what i said and still are left with more smerits.

I didn't mean that you were in rushed for rank up. If you make quality post then merit will come either you expect or not. Also I always encouraged users to spend your smerit, it's not necessary to gather them and open giveaway thread. I repeat again, I anyone have high amount of smerit and they don't have enough time then its appropriate to open merit giveaway thread. Or an merit source could open if someone they don't have enough time (but not often). Its better to spent merit than dry it. However, that's your smerit and your choice, for me it's not appropriate who have only small smerit and they are very lazy to read others post.

Congratulations mate.

That was a good initiative of yours that helping other low-rank members but I think it is good if you help member rank from Jr. Member to member rank. You don't need to rush of spending of your smerit, I may suggest to higher your level standard of giving merit. But still, the decision is yours because that is your smerit.

BTW, why you didn't update your signature and wear an avatar? I think you're not yet ready to become a Full member. :D (just kidding)
Because when I was ranked up into a Full member before I'm very excited to wear colored signature and avatar design. It's cool.

You guys made fair points, perhaps I did jump the gun. It's my first thread so after thinking about it, I realized how the whole situation could eventually pan out.

For the others that have posted before this, I'll still honor the giveaway should their entries qualify.

The rest of the sMerits will be kept and given out to quality posts I come across.

Finally, thanks for the well-wishes and this thread will be closed.

@sheenshane: Maybe you're right, I've still yet to fully explore the boundaries of Bitcointalk... :D

Thanks for reminding though, I'll update them. And finally, time to add some color to the profile!
