Title: Bitcoin Logo: #90 on Fortune's top 100 greatest designs
Post by: Baofeng on March 26, 2020, 10:59:48 AM
According to Fortune, the BTC logo ranked number 90 greatest designs of modern times. Number (1) is Apple's Iphone and then (2) the Macintosh, (3) is Google, (4) Eames Fiberglass Armchair and then (5) is Sony Walkman TPS-L2.

Do you agree that BTC should be in the lower bracket? or should be ranked higher?

It’s probably where it should based on widespread mainstream adoption numbers etc.
Bitcoin for me is number 1 though because it’s an unrivalled, never seen before invention. If we re-address this in 30 years then maybe bitcoin could be in the top 10.

This isn't about adoption, it's about aesthetic qualities of the logo, so it's just a highly subjective ranking that was made by asking professional designers. If Bitcoin's logo is #1 for you, then it is #1 for you, no one should be arguing with you.

To me personally, Bitcoin's logo is nice but nothing special. I'm not going to like it more because I like Bitcoin itself.

Is this really about the Bitcoin Logo? I guess this is about Bitcoin itself, not just the logo. The title says The greatest designs of modern times.

What does it take to become a design icon? There‘s more to it than good looks. These 100 products have made our lives simpler, better, and yes, more stylish.

IPhone and Macintosh, for example, have the same logo if I'm not mistaken but then they ranked 1st and 2nd, respectively. Another Apple product sharing the same logo, iPod, is ranked number 10 and another one, MacBook Pro, is on the 14th rank. The fourth rank goes to a chair whose logo I cannot even see. And the sixth spot goes to a peeler. And does Post-it Notes even have a logo?

Is that how it really looks like? I've been searching for some history of the Bitcoin logo and I found this article from Coindesk https://www.coindesk.com/about-that-orange-b-the-history-of-bitcoins-logos

Within that article was a link to the logo post by Satoshi himself https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=64.0
It's a shame that the images he posted there are now invalid.

Ranking logos is stupid. There's no objective criteria to rank logo designs(or any other form of art).
Some people like a particular design, while other people hate it.I hate the Apple,Macintosh and Google logos, but they are on the first 3 spots. That's because Apple has millions of fanatic die hard fans.
The Bitcoin Core logo is way better than those three logos.Even the ethereum logo is better. ;D
Well,I guess that this "Top 100 greatest designs" list is really biased.

Well for some people who loves and appreciate art there is more of what you are interpreting based on the looks, there is something that the logos are giving away not just to depict something. I find it interesting since we have a lot, like hundred of thousands of logo present at the moment and they were able to rank although I think they just selected a limited group.

Well I think one of the criteria is the popularity of the thing itself, I also like the logo of ethereum and other coins in the market than bitcoin, but come on man if anyone who does not know bitcoin at all then its logo will speak to itself and will represent probably the whole crypto.

Looking at the top logos according to the rankings. You can clearly see it's all about popularity and not really being the greatest designs otherwise we wouldn't be seeing (1) Apple's Iphone, (2) the Macintosh, (3) is Google... Talking from an artistic point of view, there are far better logos than those top 5.
I wouldn't take the list so seriously

Bitcoin wasn’t invented, it was designed... I'm not sure about this affirmation. Bitcoin was invented and designed, it was both.

And about the rank, for sure Bitcoin should be upper than Iphone, is a complex comparison.

I think it sits where it should be, BTC is fairly young as compare to those logos on the top echelon.

However, I don't think we should make a fuzz about this one, for me, its better if bitcoin should be recognized not by it's logo, but how it changes people lives, in my opinion. So I agree, this shouldn't be taken seriously, its all for the aesthetics of it.

Am I the only one who thinks this rank is too advanced? We have many factors that make Bitcoin (logo) unknown, the most important of which are:

 - New decentralized technology and no central authority to manage it.
 - It is new, since 2009, not much time has passed.
 - There are many competitors in the same field, as there are BCH with them green logo, SV and more than 1000 cryptocurrencies.
 - almost 90% of people have not heard of it.
 - Absence of legislative regulations.
If all these factors improve, then we will get a different rank.

I don't agree with this. We can say that 99% of people never used Bitcoin but at least 30% of them have heard about Bitcoin. Almost every person I ever tried to initiate discussion about Bitcoin has heard about Bitcoin, however perspective about Bitcoin differ from person to person. Most of the people whom I talked with either think that Bitcoin is some kind of quick return investment or banned by government. However, none of those are true. We have to blame these newspapers and media for spreading lies. But whatsoever is the case, I assume that 3 out of 10 people have heard or read about Bitcoin at least once in their lifetime.

In my case, I first read about Bitcoin in 2014 when one of the daily newspaper printed a news about American guy who lost few millions due to losing his private keys. However, I kind of ignored article back then and actually started using Bitcoin not before 2015.
