Title: April Fools Day in Crypto industry
Post by: johhnyUA on April 01, 2020, 08:30:00 PM
Hello, since i have a lot of time due to quarantine, i want to create a thread, where year by year I'd collect fun pranks in crypto. Not only on our forum, but more wide, in most services which belongs to crypto industry.

So, let's start! This will be about 2020

1. Bitcointalk.org

Bitcointalks was also affected by virus this year  :P

https://i.imgur.com/sy5782ph.png

Many user was affected by virus, but with different symptoms. From easy, like text sneezing, to hard, like text unreadable pneumonia

https://i.imgur.com/tOuajYnh.png

hard case :

https://i.imgur.com/HzJLnYeh.png

Even moderators, were affected despite survival masks which they received from Theymos (thermos were infected too!)  :-X

https://i.imgur.com/iLzWENmh.png

2. Coinmarketcap

Because all this situation with coronavirus, many things like stocks or oil experienced a hard market fall (even gold) (EVEN BITCOIN!!1). Except only one important resource, which i would personally call one of the pillar of civilization, a TOILET PAPER. And Coinmarketcap created a crypto which supported by Toilet paper standard (which is more ancient even than gold standard) - Toilet Paper Token based on proof-of-wipe chain (but beware, you should go through Know-Your-Colon (KYC) process before buying it on your buks!)

Lol, it's already on Yobit  (https://yobit.net/en/trade/TPT/BTC)  ;D

https://i.imgur.com/aX2iiGql.png

You can read about this magnificent startup (which is more valuable than most startups) here - https://blog.coinmarketcap.com/2020/04/01/toilet-paper-token-wipe-paper/ (or archived her (https://web.archive.org/web/20200401162422/https://blog.coinmarketcap.com/2020/04/01/toilet-paper-token-wipe-paper/))

1. MEW WOOF wallet

https://i.imgur.com/jgUOu7Dh.png

https://i.imgur.com/f0s6B2Zh.png

Really paw-friendly with really smart pups, believe me!

Afterwards:
I checked many sites belongs to crypto, and sometimes i do not even know is it april's joke or not https://i.imgur.com/0apoNES.png

https://i.imgur.com/MSDSU4Zl.png

However, i really liked that three main services is still keep joking year by year, despite all this pandemia stuff. Yeah, there is not good times, but without jokes and chilling it can be much worse for people. Thx to all, i'll go and buy some toilet paper  :P

After Afterwards:
Maybe i missed something, you're free to add here any april fools stuff from crypto (and not only  :P )

I had a bad feeling that the guy with pneumonia will not make it and after the resolution of this epidemics, his symptoms (post) will remain like that. It is hard to cure such situation without sequelae ;D
BTW nice, i wasn't aware CMC is fooling people too! It is unfortunate that TPT is out of stock but looks at the GRAPH lol

There are a lot of crypto communities who had prank during this April fool's Day.

We know that recently Porn hub accepts Bitcoin as a form of payment and now they had prank of having launched their own token called "$PORN" token.

Coindesk had a worthy April 1st news too. The title is already pretty cool.

GitHub Is Burying Bitcoin Code Inside an Arctic Mountain to Ride Out the Next 1,000 Years (https://www.coindesk.com/github-is-burying-bitcoin-code-inside-an-arctic-mountain-to-ride-out-the-next-1000-years)

Edit: I've just noticed another April 1st prank in another thread. It tells that CSW proved himself as Satoshi (lol!). I'll just paste it here, it's not my merit.

https://www.financemagnates.com/cryptocurrency/news/craig-wright-victorious-in-kleiman-case-after-signing-with-satoshis-key/ (https://www.financemagnates.com/cryptocurrency/news/craig-wright-victorious-in-kleiman-case-after-signing-with-satoshis-key/)
Quote
Australian computer scientist and entrepreneur Dr. Craig Wright has been granted a victory in the Kleiman v. Wright case after he was able to provably send a transaction from one of the Bitcoin wallets known to belong to Bitcoin creator ‘Satoshi Nakamoto’, thereby verifying his claims that he is, in fact, the undisputed creator of BTC.

The transaction, worth roughly 01.04 BTC was sent and received by Dr. Wright and his legal team in the presence of Judge Bruce Reinhart on Tuesday, March 31st, who granted the ruling later the same day.

While there is no certainty that any Bitcoin wallet belongs to Satoshi Nakamoto, the transaction in question was executed from the wallet where the block reward from the first block on the Bitcoin blockchain, known as the Genesis Block, was originally deposited (1A1zP1eP5QGefi2DMPTfTL5SLmv7DivfNa). The wallet had previously lain dormant for years.

Also this one is my favorite prank.

Coming from Trust Wallet Tweet (https://twitter.com/TrustWalletApp/status/1245328287381020672?s=19)

Also this one that says Craig Wright already won the case on Kleiman Case after signing with one of the wallets associated by Satoshi.

Craig wrights now proven his identity as Satoshi (https://www.financemagnates.com/cryptocurrency/news/craig-wright-victorious-in-kleiman-case-after-signing-with-satoshis-key)

Im thinking if thats so easy then this will not be an April Fools day gag story. Thumbs up to writers of this compiling it like a real story.

Trust wallet also posted a tweet (https://twitter.com/TrustWalletApp/status/1245353766141833217?s=19) that they are going to support the Toilet Paper Token and that they'll distributing the TPT tokens during the scheduled Airplop as a prank.

While everyone were playing April Fool Pranks, Yobit saw this as an opportunity to scam and created a shitcoin (https://etherscan.io/token/0x159bbc3a28b8d5ef69ef68ede48262134d73c967) in name of TPT and listed it (https://yobit.net/en/trade/TPT/BTC) to their exchange with a trading volume of over 800 BTC. Discussion regarding this is ongoing on here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5237253.0)

And I thought CMC and BTCTalk were the only ones! Apparently most websites & services have prepared a little prank for each of us :D

Great to see a little humor out here during these saddening pandemic times. I guess we all deserve a little smile or laugh right now. Gave you all a little merit for putting a smile on my face with these pranks. Now I gotta keep them & stake them up - I don't like running out of sMerits to give! :-X

Hi OP I think this one should be added also.

It is a myth that all the posts on Bitcointalk (bitcointalk.org) from my account (Satoshi) are in fact mine and have not been edited or changed and that the login on the website belongs to me. Satoshi (I) never used Bitcointalk. My final post, in fact, links to a domain that does not exist.

On a serious note. Craig Wright now saying he (Satoshi) doesnt use account here on forum. Wow this is the biggest April Fool I ever heard. This is the top 1. I thought it was ended yesterday but they still publishing fools articles.

Thanks for the mentioned but actually it wasn't planned or well planned per se (to be specific) since I couldn't get a signatures and avatar uploaded on the thread neither where there terms and conditions etc to make the thread look more authentic yet it still drew in a lot of audience mostly since the payout were very mouthwatering and all visible.

Thought about the prank minutes after I got infected with the forum viruse and had few minutes to come up with everything before I got on with my daily routines. I love the safety/prevention message I was able to pass across and glad no one took offense of the prank as everyone laughed. Also used the thread to spread some smerit love to all those that contributed in giving the thread more audience since it got many attention as more forum users were contributing (they must have thought, it was them applying for a slot).

I felt no offense, at least not on my side, besides a little disappointment that I don't get a chance to join one of the best paid sig campaigns out here!

To be honest, I was so sleepy when I found your thread that if you had posted rules and everything like a normal campaign, I would've most likely written a participation reply without even knowing it's the 1st of April :D Don't worry, I can help you prank the forum next year but make sure you don't tell anyone ;)

Maybe its good if someone can make a memes of this topic about him not using Bitcoin forum with a caption Forgot password so I cant access it. damn wright! He is spending a lot of times on social media with buzzers keeping him from spreading his wings to dozen of bullshit. I dont know why even publisher uploading this type of news. Clearly many writers are still dont have a tiny bit of information about the real deal of bitcoin. Too sad! Maybe we need to endorsed to register all crypto enthusiasts here prior before engaging on crypto activity.

Hi :)

Could you please provide something on what you base your assumption of 'april fool' ? I really think it's not one, in part due to this kind of article : https://www.forbes.com/sites/billybambrough/2020/04/04/bitcoins-huge-surge-this-week-could-be-the-tip-of-the-iceberg-as-traders-recall-2017-gold-rush/#51b6311b5d40

~Snipped~
Sure :)

- They tweeted that on April 1st.
- They didn't mention that the so-called record belongs to which period.
- It lacks proof or even a simple infographic of some sort.
- Personally, I find it hard to believe that there will be a 300% increase in regard to the number of people going through the KYC process [I already considered the current ongoing situation].

I'm sure there will be an increase but not that significant.

Thank you for that answer.

This confirms me in my opinion that there is nothing certain and that this remains an assumption (date of April 1, no graph and personal feeling).

This remains of little importance, however, and the most important is that the exchanges see their number of new registrants increasing undeniably. (further clarified here by Kraken: 'Everyday, [we’re seeing] more sign-ups, more verification requests, more people funding their accounts, and that to us is a signal that things are heating up.'

April Fools Day 2021

As a part of my own tradition i want to sort all known (for me) pranks from different crypto services.

1. Forum NFT
Here is main topic - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5327661.0

This time Theymos prepared seriously for April Fools and created for us fully operable fNFT exchange. Active users owned personal (like johhnyUA-V nft at start with something like 1000 btc for use  :o . They could buy random nft for 50 btc, sell their own and buy for asked price.

I think this one of the best April fools here, at forum

-
https://i.imgur.com/Dali78rl.png
-
https://i.imgur.com/XxuqNXbl.png

2. MyEtherWallet

As they often do, it was just a simple visual joke: It had few iterations and for honest i just clicked on "I love vintage" so I'm not sure about another choices
This how it was (in the same sequence):

1. It was like you initially redirecting to old, vintage version
https://i.imgur.com/jorrMGhl.png
2.
https://i.imgur.com/mAY9epJl.png
3.
https://i.imgur.com/Zc3CFF8l.png
4.
https://i.imgur.com/KqGBHR0l.png

3. Binance

That was enough simple. On their main account was a funny tweet:
https://i.imgur.com/GXFTfgkl.png

4. Trust Wallet

Also, tweet:
https://i.imgur.com/WLQoKlXl.png

That's what i found. As i remember, there was some joke on coinmarketcap, with positions of altcoins in the list, but with all that pump i don't see anything funny in the statement that "Filecoin above Litecoin". This is what can happen with ease  :P

So if you have what to add to my list, i will be very appreciated  :D

It's not the most advanced joke, but it gave me a good laugh. There is a Twitter account @DidbitcoinDie (https://twitter.com/DidBitcoinDie) where every day there is a tweet from this account just saying "No".

And yesterday :

Lol, nice. I have also few jokes (about Binance hack for example) but they mostly from russian crypto community, so many of you here will not get it just because of language barrier.

But anyway, this is nice that April Fools day in crypto (and especially on this forum) is very important day  ;D

I was cautious not to get fooled in the recent April 1st fun, not because I was too wise but, I just choose not to be in the fun because, I would have found a had time deciphering which is a trick and which isn. It was so real on this forum with the series of tricks displayed in this exercise of April 1st and you guys really put in a resources to take the fun to a whole new level. With lots of persons so focused on what they hope to archive from the promising opportunities it April 1st presented, it took only someone not having the requirements needed not to participate.
