For CPU mining try monero. What kind of i7 do you have on the laptop? They range anywhere from 2-4KH/s. If you compare it to the latest Ryzen's which get about 20KH/s you can see what a disadvantage it is.
So assuming 2KH/s and FREE ELECTRICITY you would earn about $0.10 a day. Not really worth it. Especially on a laptop you can easily damage to due excess heat and poor ventilation since they are not designed for 100% CPU usage. Also the battery can explode or swell due to high heat. My advice if you want to mine is get a desktop, get a better CPU or get a GPU and just mine ETH.
