Title: Coinmarketcap's new feature - Chat
Post by: jossiel on June 13, 2020, 05:37:32 PM
I guess no one has noticed and posted this so, I'll be posting it.

I've noticed that there's a messenger icon beside the search box and it's the new feature they have released, the chat. It requires logging in so you can chat with specific communities for each coin. There are channels made already there and you can join for those channels that you hold the coin. I didn't noticed that it was already announced last June 11.

nice feature, and I have tried to create an account to try the chat feature. First impressions are quite good, it's just that I'm a little confused to add channels because in the channel recommendations I didn't find the coins that are being owned.

Interesting, honestly I have not visited Coinmarketcap for quite some time I just rely on Coingecko because some of the coins that I'm not following are not listed in Coinmarketcap, this is a good and major innovation let's see if other market aggregator can follow what Coinmarketcap  did.

Maybe the coin developers that you want to see haven't seen this feature nor created that channel for you guys.

I'm using both, coingecko and coinmarketcap and the same as you whenever I can't see the coin that I search on the other platform and vice versa.

We might see most of them adding the same feature.

I really don't know how effective it is though, I just used CMC to check the price quickly, to see where crypto is at right now specially BTC. So I don't want to create an account with them just to chat or something.

It might be better to go directly to the coin that you follows and join their official channel than using CMC, in my opinion. It's not that bad enhancement, but I don't see any advantage though. Probably another way for them to collect your emails for marketing purposes.

Great feature, it will attract loads of new traffic and active crypto community on cmc portal.
As soon as binance group acquired coinmarketcap i was expecting they will revamp the portal with great new features and here we are they have already here with chat option but i am sure many more will be in the pipeline.
I hope they will also upgrade user interface, reduce ads on each page and also reduce loading time.

I just found out about this feature too, and this is really interesting. But at first I thought this chat feature was public, like we are. But I see that in the user section is every project, is that true? so for the public can not join in the chat room?

It looks like a copy of Telegram, probably it is done on purpose to attract people for new "Telegram". It is nice that again community is closer to the project and could get answers for their questions on another platform.

This could be a really cool feature but I don't like to login for such sites because you will get lot of random crypto related offers soon.Spam inbox. :)

Create a fresh new email then.  :P Anyway, it is not compulsory to join their chat but somehow some users will feel that they are left behind if they will not join. I think, it is only for those users who are interested to enjoy this feature so if they will use their main email account, it is their choice. So expect also to receive some "spam emails" from them.

Looks like a pretty decent feature that will help distinguish it from platforms like CoinGecko and CoinPaprika, maybe it'll actually help build some engagement.

The platform was quickly losing its ground to CoinGecko, so it's good to see the developers are still innovating. Not that a chatbox is much of an innovation, I'm 100% sure it's going to become a new places where projects shill their tokens.

Based on how slow CoinMarketCap is to update their listings, I highly doubt they're going to have any moderation either. Scam central coming up!

It's better if we can login as a guess too. That's not a big problem as long as it has been running by a trusted party. Do you remember about another platform like cryptocompare or something else? that was doing the same thing like CMC before.

This feature is something everyone must know. This will help users to engage with other users in their community. Just make sure when using it keep all important information from being exposed. I recommend to make another alternative email account to log in, this will make the user more secure. But the feature look decent, I've tried it and so far no problem encountered.

I haven't visit Coinmarketcap for a while so I'm not aware of that new feature. That was cool, at least they're still putting an upgrade on their services so that investors still come to visit their website. But to be honest, I'm a little bit skeptical on that. I don't think it would create a lively community since most of tokens nowadays already got their own Telegram channel or any social medias :D.

I also saw the message icon on CMC yesterday, and I think it's very useful to be able to share opinions about cryptocurrency with people we don't know yet and can also suggest various inputs for the progress of the CMC site itself.

Or they trying to bring coinmarketcap become a more social platform?

This also what I've notice, are they trying to attract investors to engage to the site? we know cmc as a one of those medium to check the
project information, now that they have chat system visitors can interact with other people around.

Engagement and socialization might be the next thing, as they also requiring every visitors to register in order to use the chat system.

Well, I saw it but you need to signup first before you can join their conversation. It only required a Gmail address and of course a strong password on it.
Well, I hope this is not going to misuse from other members.
I have a strong feeling that perhaps this maybe can use in a hype project, --by spamming the name of the coin in community will give attract to the reader and perhaps will cause hype. Indeed, that is really to the traders that seeking the right information [I hope so] that you can communicate with each other.

We don't really visit coinmarketcap every day but it's a great feature to have on the websites having the opportunity to chat with other traders etc.

Maybe there is a lot of discussion on the websites that a lot of users could do but I doubt that a lot of people are going to take it seriously as the websites it didn't really focus on having social interaction.

If it doesn't require log-in or if there is a feature for guess log-in may be a lot of users will joining or gain interest in it as the websites might just getting personal information.

Data is the new oil.
Yes, as the typical sayings, if you use a service for free - you are the product.

Really weird and unnecessary feature. Are they try to bait you to set up an account at there, to log your information on viewing crypto on coinmarketcap just because you want to chat? Or they trying to bring coinmarketcap become a more social platform?
Every website do this, they collect data from their users and use it appropriately depending to what they want. The 2nd question is also possible, they have seen the need for a social platform since most crypto channels are more dwelling in telegram.

So, they just made an alternative.

No forces to use it, I've just shared it because I've seen it.

Yes, that feature would be more helpful. Now it seems every coin has its own community. So everyone can make a discussion about the coin with their community. Coinmarketcap has been doing very well by implementing new features.

Adding this chat feature is good but I do think it is need more on exchange than coinmarketcap, I could be wrong this could help to build a strong community of traders like that of trading view, if the team can continue to sustain its development because I feel the previous team sold it because they think they can grow it further

I too noticed it and let's try.
They need user to login and they have different chatrooms. Most of them are rooms for specific coins but not all. Maybe another strategy to earn money from projects listing their room. It's also a better place to learn about interest of users and send them personalized ads.
They are using some external service called sendbird, so your chat are also going to other parties.

What's the communities like? Does this invalidate project social media handles or what exactly does it contribute to the project because I'm sure every project has their own social media outlet where people chat about the project. Launching this feature by CMC does it create a separate chat for projects or its a collective chat?

Also did not notice this option, thanks.  A useful option in my opinion, that is, you can chat in the chat of each project.  Now I will register and I will read the news about different companies.

Yeah. A lot of people visit CMC for reference about coins and chat would give them a quick view of different ideas and opinions about coins. How the chat is moderated would also make the difference as large moderation may bring manipulation rather than thought sharing. I hope they won't be like moderated threads by projects here.

Its a good addition to engage into price and development discussions out there. It is kinda new so don't have any much members but I still think its useless given there is telegram channels or other chat platform channels to discuss. Second is moderation, Is chat messages being moderated there? I hardly think so. It would be a big problem since it would allow scammers to promote some shady sites or push in some malicious files.

Still, I didn't check properly but I think this could be a valuable feature for us. In a telegram group you can't chat about every detail with others, telegram group only can help you with positive sides. In a telegram group you haven't full freedom when we're in a decentralized cryptocurrency.

This is actually a good add up on the site which is way more better rather than hanging out into those telegram groups that do talks about market prices etc. We know that there are lots of people
whom do rely into this site in checking out prices and do give out their sentiments or views towards on co-users of the site.It isnt actually a bad feature but not also that a good one but
its better to have this way.

It is good that they integrate chat feature also on this site.
But to check for specific updates or discussion on a certain coin, I think they have their own socmed channels already.
Which I think is more comprehensive. So in cmc, it is more on throwing opinions and speculations.
I have seen a lot of channels created already. But the in depth discussion can be found I think is still on their own channels not in cmc.

It's probably part of the new management of CMC. As you know it was taken into new management by CZ's company, Binance. Being the leading crypto exchange and aware of some struggles in the community which they can take into account.

They want to be as telegram and also provide the same feature of giving crypto prices to the community. And that means people who visit CMC don't have to go through telegram channels if they have already the community built on CMC.

Thanks for bringing this to our notice, I did not even take note of this feature maybe because I use coingecko most often than cmc, however, I think that's a really cool feature to add to cmc, this will give users the opportunity to chat with like minded users holding same coins or tokens in a specific group chat greated for the coin, I like the idea, I think many people will find it interesting as well.

yeah, although i do not see a point in this chat, will someone from the project be available for answers, or that will be chat between community supporters, additional to telegram channels? seems that this will not be some additional value, if someone from the project is not available on the chat

This is not the first innovation that occurred on Coinmarketcap after the change of service owner. Before that, I had previously seen that they introduced a new liquidity rating for exchanges. Creating a chat on Coinmarketcap will allow the rating to further increase the audience of active users who will move here from various social networks.

Since Coinmarketcap changed the proprietorship, it has been creating a lot of significant changes. Adding a chat feature to the platform helps increase interactions between users. Furthermore, it attracts other users to change their habit from chatting on another forum to chat on Coinmarketcap. That's a good move though!

This is a feature that is needed by the community. because as we know Coinmarketcap is as one of the references to see the development of a harag coin. And this time with the addition of this chat feature will make it easier for the community to discuss with each other.

If this chat channel grows, I believe that the projects will leave telegram and move here. but I don't want my guess to happen because telegram is still much more convenient and the whole community can easily join in it.

I use this site almost every day and I didnt even notice it,.. this is an excellent feature though.. I trust the pump and dump stars .and shitcoin chillers to make good use of this feature.. it would make alot of sense if they'll just create a mobile app similar to telegram

I think the majority check the prices from time to time and CMC is the most popular and the others also use. They might create a similar mobile app since they've started the chat feature already. It's handy and easy to access if they'll add a mobile version soon.

Coingecko and CMC are the most used crypto price tracker and we're also the same using them both. It's focusing for specific communities so they can converse and update their supporters, holders and investors.

I never thought of signing in coinmarketcap now i will try to sign in coinmarketcap for check specifically this feature . I hope this platform will be scammers/spammers free or might have any regulation towards this scammers . The biggest problem with crypto chat bot including telegram is scammers and spammers

What is the purpose of this chat? At first look it looks like a new Telegram, but when already there are chat groups that represent coins, why we need another site?
It's probably part of the new management of CMC. As you know it was taken into new management by CZ's company, Binance. Being the leading crypto exchange and aware of some struggles in the community which they can take into account.

They want to be as telegram and also provide the same feature of giving crypto prices to the community. And that means people who visit CMC don't have to go through telegram channels if they have already the community built on CMC.
But telegram is still a lot easier to use and people will be able to do more things at telegram. I have been using telegram for years to update news and chat with friends, so I think this coinmarketcap utility is superfluous.

Great feature, CZ trying to improve the platforms by making not just more informative but also make it more interactive between every community that is listed in Coinmarketcap. People will be able be be communicate with other investors or community members in a certain channel while checking up on other community at the same time.

I always admire cz and is many innovative ideas, i mean take a good look at Binance and all the innovative features he has introduced to the exchange since it was lunched, compare to other exchange,  Binance is the only exchange that keeps bringing new things, going the extra miles to satisfy the customer needs, I believe now that cmc management is on the hand of cz, same transformation will follow, take it or live it, cz knows how to do business, always bringing uniqueness. Good to know, I can't find it on the app yet, maybe it will be included in near future.

I had not paid attention that they introduced chat on your website, this will create another dynamic in this market because people will constantly chat in the chat about their favorite altcoins and the position that each of their favorite altcoin will be occupying in the coinmarketcap and will allow for coinmarketcap management observing what people want and of course they will also be catching people's emails and with that in mind the revenue they earn from advertising

well at least when there is information that will be developed a platform does not have to provide information first because in my opinion when there is chat development is not very important because we all know that the coinmarketcap platform is only used as information from all cryptocurrency volumes and registered exchange places.

Binance probably planned to have people spend more time in the site, so that's why they created chat, i don't know if people will actually end up spending more time, better than nothing i guess.

This might be a "good" improvement for CMC site since they can gather more visits from people who are promoting their altcoin project.  Sadly, this chat becomes a shilling ground for projects that wanted to hype their token.  Reminds me of some project hiring shills to hype their token on CMC chat.  I, too think that there is no need for chatbox for the reason that it may be used to shill worthless projects that often are devastating to investors.

Another new way for scammers. This is a good feature. This will allow CMC to keep traffic on their site longer, and increase its traffic as it gains popularity. But people will use it for bad. Some will use it to scam newcomers while others will use it to coins pump and dump. So everyone must be careful in using this feature. Don't give your hard earned money to scammers.

Well, I am just noticing that now, because I have not been making use of the Coinmarketcap website for a long time. I opened the website and then a notification popped up on the website to explain what the chat feature is all about. You can’t make use of the chat if you have not created an account on the website. You will first have to create an account and then will you be able to join your community and discuss with them.

But there is how the chat works, and they only have channels for the top 200 coins on Coinmarketcap (CMC). But from the explanation I got, the channels are opened only when there is a big price movement for that particular coin, and it will be open for 24 hours. It’s quite a good feature they are adding there.

Or users simply can chat? That kind of web chats were popular in year 2005 +/-. Who needs them in 2020? I dont understand.

BNB is there for sure...

Not only that now coinmarketcap rank will be held by the traffic it generates every minute. I think it will show us more authentic data that we were given before. Many scams or shit exchange make fack volume to rank up in Coinmarketcap before. Now I think that won't be possible for this new method of ranking. I think these type of development will increase CMC's trustworthiness.

Maybe it's easier for users to report something, or new users to ask questions about what they don't know.
I think that's the only function, because when discussing a coin I think every coin has its own place.

Yeah, that's right because so many scam flagged projects which were investigated by the scam busters , are now in CMC which is really a bad thing. As CMC only track the exchange's api to show the price or statistics of a new coin, they should also make a close contact with the forum's scam busters to verify the projects which is legit or scam before adding them in CMC. Then, crypto lovers will be able to track only the legit and genuine projects in CMC.

When the chat is open for all, different people will show different opinion, some are not even real so it's not really attractive to me, and I don't want to back read some comment especially when there's a lot of non sense comments, just like a telegram group in ICO/IEO where there's a lot of active members but only few who genuinely know about the project.

well indeed there are many benefits that can be obtained when there are new features like that can be used a lot for something positive one of which is compact to raise prices on one coin, especially bitcoin because the price of coins cannot go up without the support of traders and whales.

Those scam projects are listed because CMC bot crawls every exchange and list it if it has a good volume on an exchange, Some say CMC listing is free other say you can pay for it, CMC need to clean up there website else it will clutter with a lot of useless tokens that are traded for a year and die in the next month.

A lot of people are using CMC but nobody realise that they are not that inventive at all. There are a lot of other platforms which allready have these functions or the features are even advanced compared to CMC.
I like to use Cryptocompare and CoinGecko, but mostly use Worldcoinindex for their stats.
That is right.

With the transition of management, they are starting to add features and also have removed some particularly to the information about exchanges. They are now owned by Binance so most favor will be on them..

Those trackers that you have mentioned are also good but coingecko is the most that I use as an alternative.

we must be happy with that  because of the new owners plus new features   . the ones that remove are from the past owners so its okay but if they think they remove some useful service , they will always replace it with a new and improve model  .

They can modify it completely with everything they want. The investment that they have included on CMC is a very huge amount of money so those changes depend on what they think which can be for the better of the website.

nowadays i see people are now betraying cmc and starting to talk negative coments with them but they dont know that cmc still help them alot back on the days where other alternatives didnt existed yet   .
If those talks are related to fake volume and data that they've been delivering to us, that could be one very reason why those people you have seen were talking like that. But let's wait for them if they'll become accurate this time and adds more integrity.

I am not sure why members are still crazy about CMC. The website is too slow to operate nowadays when every website should load within 2 seconds.

They have lots of advertisements which make it incredibly slow and the worst part is that it is now owned by a shady owner. Who is known for all the wrong things?

I actually visit coingecko more than CMC, it is fast, it is gaining reputation slowly and is much faster than CMC when we are talking about loading time.

Other sites should follow Coinmarketcap's leads this is for transparency.

The chat feature isn't just another telegram channel that's composed of different people who's aiming to shill. The chat groups are made specifically for communities like for Cardano which I have seen at the top list.

Although, there's this one channel at the top too which has been named as #tothemoon. I guess that we're getting the idea that it's no different from the channels that we used to have. Basically, this is an additional feature. I thought that it would be exclusively for each project, tokens, and altcoins and also bitcoin lovers.

Not sure why everyone is saying "impressive" or "good job". Like I mean, is this going to really helpful? If the chat isn't going to be moderated, it is going to be filled with full of trolls, spammers and scammers.
I doubt anyone will be using the chat features. Highly likely it will be used for shilling shitcoins. I don't see any need for the chat option over there.

CMC is slower than usual now, and ever since cz bought it I don't trust it anymore he could easily manipulate the volume numbers on there or something like that. People love the guy I think he is shady AF

You will become a scammer or will be rejected from the original group, if you don't ask proper questions in the telegram group. This feature will be great to about more details without getting problems from main projects. Sometimes we need more information than dev gives. But we should stay away from prediction of others.

A great update for the coinmarketcap, I think the chat thing would help many crypto enthusiast specially for the beginners that aren't knowledgeable about coinmarketcap exchange and good thing to ask faq's about the exchange that may help any concerns.

I just notice it now when I visited the site. Well its a good feature because we can interact to other people. But for me its not necessary because there are other social media sites where you can join discussion for a particular coins and projects. Nevertheless adding this icon might be an advantage for others who have questions and issues.

For beginners and bought a token that has a community that can be seen there. Questions and problems can easily be answered and solved if there's a representative from the team or devs active on that chat channel that they have.

The beginners are the ones that can benefit from this. But for some that aren't appreciating the feature because there's already telegram, it's okay too because we all know that such communities were already been built before.
