Title: Email New month wishing Message alert from the forum.
Post by: Mrengage on July 01, 2020, 04:08:24 AM
Greetings all, please don't mind my curiosity of saying happy new month. I just wish if a kind of HAPPY NEW MONTH alert can be implemented to the forum, where by every new month those that engaged their emails on the forum will get email ALERT from the forum wishing every member a HAPPY NEW MONTH.

What's your idea on this? Good or Not good give your reasons

I don't think this is a good Idea. 1st of all many people uses fake email for register here to hide their identity. So if they get any email they will not see that.
The 2nd reason getting this kind of newsletter from any company is really irritating to me. I think many of you also feel the same. So, there is no chance Theymos implement this option.

No. It is unnecessary.

  • Some users have not real email addresses so they will not receive any monthly alert email from the forum.
  • Contents of monthly email: If it is only a "Say hi to a new month", it is a spam and zero value.
  • If users actually use the forum, they don't need to see such alert emails. On the forum, there are many good threads can give the community what's hottest on the forum temporarily.
  • It relates to privacy and security of user accounts too. If the forum's data base get hacked, there are potential bad emails sent to users and contains threats that will steal their IDs and other things.

yazher has Bitcointalk Daily November 03, 2019) (Bagong Balita) (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5146288.0). I remembered that yazher created a thread in English (if I am right) but today when I search his topic list page (https://bitcointalk.org/gettopics.php?user=1069571) I can not find the English version.

You can't set up these are get notified for it
+ When a new reply is made on a topic
+ When a new topic is created on a board,
Like important detailed notification, -not a happy new month notification- you can get that from families, friends, caring-colleagues, neighbors.
In between for newbies that a yet to know how to setup there notification and email settings

@OP are you so lonely that you dont anything in your inbox to spend 5minutes of your daily life just for deleting them?

I mean I get like at least 4-5 spam mails everyday and they keep returning even after unsubscribing from the lists so it becomes a circle game and it is not fun. But I dont know maybe you have invented some superior method to keep inbox clean, I prefer to do it myself.

Maybe what is necessary is a newsletter system for the important news posted in this section - Important Announcements (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=87.0)

^This section is rarely posted with anything but if done they are essentially very important topics worth being emailed with. Instead of a happy new month message, I fell this can be helpful. Also there are method to be notified of specific sections too, so it is already covered.

I'd be happy even if there isn't but if there's one thing to be emailed maybe once every year for the forum or bitcoin's anniversary. Really, a greeting for a new month? I don't think that's necessary for the forum to have that maybe set your alarm on your mobile phone if you wish to, it's that easy. Sorry, but it's unnecessary.

This option could be enabled by clicking on the notify option below the board page to be notified of all new topics made;

The only drawback is that many users don't use the notify option on the forum, this however needs to be encouraged more as that's how Bitcoin works, you have handle your security consciously as you are solely responsible for your assets.
P.S, congrats on 900 merits

Why would anybody want a Happy New Month message alert, it’s a retarded idea. I get it if you’re in preschool learning about the months of the year but we’re mostly capable adults here, I don’t get why you’d want to be reminded it’s a new month, just look at the calendar on your phone FFS.

No offence but this is one of the stupidest threads I’ve seen in Meta & I’ve been here for 6 days.

Have a fucking day off, mate!

I totally agree with you. At least I feel annoyed in getting any kind of newsletter. It is just an extra work to clean them from your mail. If someone truly wants to be here, they will be here and contribute.

This is, I think (no offense intended), is the most unnecessary suggestion made in the Forum. We don't get what is the sense nor the importance of having/receiving an email for only updating the month. Why not ask Google instead to greet you a "Happy New Month"? Also, let's be frank yet real here, there is still such no thing as Happy and New month, as most of us still are in midst of quarantine/community lockdown and have no jobs that are safe. I only see the sarcasm and irony in such greetings amidst this pandemic.

I'd be annoyed i got that kind of message every month, especially when there's no other useful or important information. IMO send message to user's mail should only be done when there are very important information, such as "database is leaked and user advised to change their password".

But if it's opt-out by default and the message also include other information that might interest some users (such as most hot / merited thread, after filtered manually), i guess it's not that bad idea, even though i would kept opt-out.

Indeed dude. But it is still too risky to receive such messages even the "Database...", what if someone see it as a vulnerability to send spams across the saved emails at the forum? It would be a ton of code to make a hard work for a piece of useless feature. The notifications is already featured in BTTSupernotifier bot on telegram and you can suggest more in the telegram bot in: [TELEGRAM] Yet Another BitcoinTalk Notification BOT (merits, mentions, topics,+) (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5248878.0) or in it's Review thread here: [REVIEW] @BTTSuperNotifier_bot and why should we use it! Slowly the signature spam is extending to Meta, I see.
Is this your idea of posting HQ posts - some sh!t people are spamming the forum, let's spam them back?!?
Very "funny", now you can lock the topic and re-think your priorites and goals in the forum.

I can consider this as a spam rather than some kind of important email notifying me from Bitcointal. What will this alert be doing? What difference will this make for us? Because literally if you just look at your phone or set an alarm in it every start of the month you'll be notified by yourself that it's a new month. Saying "Happy New Month" isn't really something i'll be looking forward too since it won't will just annoy me like one of those spams asking me to subscribe in their services.

This would be very helpful as I often forget what month it is or when the new month starts. How about an email also every hour wishing you a happy hour so we know what time it is?  ;D

This is not a good idea. Even if it is implemented, it doesn't add up to anything. I mean, it is not necessary. There are calendars everywhere to help you know when a month rolled out. And even if you don't have a calendar, friends and families will surely notify you in their greetings and chats
But regards of that I think his suggestion is a bit welcomed, in other point of view. Not on how you see it at least out here in Africa when it's your birthday month banks do send message across to you wishing you the best. At least that creates some happiness in your heart that you are been remember somewhere somehow.

Funny 😂😂🤣 but probably you see why at least email from the forum to let you what month it's is or regardless saying a happy new month to you.

And to what you Said here I think even if every other members in the forum are not with their real email I think that's another way to tell that most members don't belong here at first.

Easy up Buddy, I see nothing like spamming... Mate! Making a kind of suggestions doesn't call up to get pissed and angry over, it's a yes or no that it's not welcomed or its welcomed. I probably know it might be your kind of saying know but not to get too deep on words.

What is the purpose of getting Happy New Month email message every month in your email inbox ? Most of the people including me may see that email one or two months and them keep on deleting that message as it would contain nothing constructive. That would increase email spam and we don't want spamming emails.

I think it's not necessary to have notification every month just to say to have a HAPPY NEW MONTH?

This could just be a spam email to a lot of users considering a lot of members already have so many notifications here in the forum or so many topics that are on the watchlist.

And for sure most of the members are just going to unsubscribe to that message.

What if there is no un-subscription offer and it is mandatory that everyone receives that message. It will just add to spam.
I tried to find a logic behind that and think if there is any one reason which can be beneficial for the receivers who receive these emails. But I failed to find even a single reason to implement this.

If it's once a year, I see nothing wrong with it but it's not  necessary,we can set our calendar to get our alert from it personally.

I feel he went too far on taking it personal, I was only making a suggestions which opinions like yes it's good or its a welcomed idea or no it's not a welcomed suggestion than going too far in talking so angrily.
