Title: Transaction unconfirmed
Post by: variouslegend on July 17, 2020, 03:36:05 PM
Hello,
I have sent a transaction and its been more than 24hours and it's not confirmed, It was sent via Blockchain.com.
with a fee of 12.0 sat/vB.
Size   11.69 kB
Weight   46.76 kWU
Does it have a chance to get confirmed? if not, how much time it takes until the funds are back to the sending wallet?

Fees are REALLY high at the moment. If you're not in a rush just wait for it to confirm. It'll probably confirm over the weekend if transactions go down again...

I think most nodes make stuff respendable after 14 days, electrum makes stuff respendable the day after so it's probably somewhere between them. If you have rbf enabled you can change thew transaction to whatever you want now but I wouldn't recommend it unless you have to.

Your transaction will probasbly get confirmed in a fews hours, at the most tomorrow. You didn't use a very low fee... I wouldn't worry , unless you are in a hurry.

It WILL get confirmed.

Of course it will get confirmed. You have to wait because the blockchain is congested often during the day like others have said. You can also check current bitcoin transaction fees before sending for a rough estimate, but it is not something to panic over.

There is no such thing. The coins once sent are sent forever. There is no way to "reverse" a bitcoin transaction automatically not unless the user controlling the receiving wallet wishes to send them back, which is again a difficult thing to decipher because coins are not that easy to track which wallet it came from.

This is also the reason why hackers attempt to use bitcoin as ransom payment. Because once sent, the money cannot be reversed automatically.

Well, Blockchain says that if the trasnaction does not get confirmed within a long period the money is spendable again on the sending wallet.

Been 2 days already. no confirmation

It will happen only when the network dropped your transaction, i don't know exactly the timeframe when it will be sent back but probably takes days some cases takes week(s).

How's your transaction?

This might not be the best option but you can use the free https://www.viabtc.com/tools/txaccelerator for them to include your transaction in the next block since blockchain wallet does not support replace by fee or CPFP.

Also, consider the timing when you are placing your txid in their website since it is immediately occupied in just a few seconds or minutes due to 100 transaction/hour limit.

Since you have made the transaction using blockchain.com ( i don't recommend using any online web wallet. You are always limited to few options and they are never safe), there is nothing much you can do now. Just sit back and wait. If the transaction doesn't get confirmed it will eventually get dropped from the network and you will be able to spend it again. Blockchain.com can't do much for you.

As long as there's no risk for lost funds, i'm okay with it.

I recommend to use them when the time is x hour:59 minutes because viabtc's limit reset on every 59th minutes of the hour.

Just do a bit timing though since you will need to do the captcha, better to use a digital clock that has seconds as well.

Use another wallet next time, at least use those with the RBF option. How's your transaction? The mempool was cleared and we're seeing 4-6 sats fees for now.

Finally Confirmed! Next time i will just add more satoshi to what is recommended by the web client.

Thanks, everyone for the replies.

Glad to hear that. It is always unnerving for a new user to see the transaction stuck. So called transaction acclerator services are also fake mostly. Viabtc was a legit one but stopped working recently.

Please, I implore you to keep a desktop wallet and move on from the web wallets.

If you used a wallet like Electrum you could use a RBF (Replace by fee) feature to increase the fee while waiting for this transaction. They are way more safer than web wallets given that you have full control over private keys, provided your device is safe from malware. But be careful that you download the installer package from the official github page, loads of fake copies are out there.

That's what I do. I do set even higher than the recommended fee if I'm in a rush or if I don't want to experience any hassle. Use this website, https://bitcoinfees.earn.com/ to check how much is the best fee ATM that you can pay so that you can adjust it pretty well.

There was never a risk of losing your funds and 11 sat byte is not that low.

I wouldn't add more satoshis blindly, as the transaction may get very expensive and blockchain.com usually recommend higher fees than necessary.
Unless you are in a hurry, just stick to, at the most, 15 sat/byte.

I always try to send at 1-5 sat/byte if I am not hurry.

If you want to pay fewer fees like 1 or 2 sats/byte, Always try to send out transactions on weekends especially Sunday. Transactions get confirmed even for 1 Sat/byte when a lot of unconfirmed transactions with higher fees in mempool have been cleared.

I second the opinion to use another wallet. RBF is a better option since fees can fluctuate wildly, and there's no guarantee that even if you add 10+ more fees compared to the standard fee set by your wallet it will get confirmed whithin 1-5 block or so. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks for this idea will try it when required or when know have to pay somebody will use this on one of the weekends and hopefully the conformation will happen in a day or two. though it will again depend how much is the queue of unconfirmed transaction exists and accordingly it will get confirmed. At times this thing is very useful because the transaction costs are so much that need to think multiple times before sending it to somebody.

May not work all the time so better be careful when you are going to try this and don't forget to add replaceable fee option to increase the miner fee if the transaction look unconfirmed for more than a day.

Just take a look at the mempool before you make any tx. Weekend is usually free but sometimes you can see the lowest fee is around 3 sats or so. So better safe than sorry, don't just blindly set 1 sats and expect it to get confirmed tomorrow.

It doesn't really make a difference.
If it is thursday and he can wait until sunday, just make the transaction now with 1 sat/byte. It will get confirmed in Sunday (if mempool is cleared on sunday) and it could also be confirmed Friday if the mempool is cleared on friday.
