Title: Help me understand
Post by: coupable on August 04, 2020, 08:47:37 PM
First case, is that i remember seeing an image of a mobile near to some replies. Iunderstood this as a sign that the user is using his mobile to create the reply, but when i use my mobile, i don't see that icone near to my post.

Second case:
In this self moderated thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5147978.0), i noticed that the topic title is different above each reply. Is this normal or caused by an error?
I checked other threads in the same board, but everything was displayed as normal.
Here is a screenshot for better understanding:

I doubt it has anything to do with posting from mobile but I'd need to see what you're talking about to be sure.

Edit: ok, it is kinda sorta indirectly related to mobile, see here for details: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5266655.msg54936911#msg54936911

Anybody can change the title of their reply. Check at the top of my post.

It's normal. It's just that people don't often change the subject title when they are replying a thread

Do you a picture of what it looks like? So you can post it here? I have never seen or heard about this up until before. And also explain a little bit more, do you see the icon when browsing on a pc or phone? Also, which browser do you use, it may have something to do with the browser perhaps?

Second case:
In this self moderated thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5147978.0),
My opinion, maybe, @TheButterZone did it on purpose, to update the topic, about charity.
Perhaps, this is to facilitate 'donations' because foundations and countries are different.
Example:

Quote
Topic: Double Charity - Bitcointalk Edition.
Topic: San Diego, CA - 100 sealed new 8 ft, Cat6 Leviton eXtreme 6+ patch cords & iMac.
Topic: San Diego, CA - Violin (German Vuillaume copy).
Topic: San Diego, CA - Service dog harness.
Topic: San Diego, CA - Dried Cherries
Topic: San Diego, CA - Mac Mini.
Topic: Re: Double Charity - Bitcointalk Edition.

I see donations of different foundations, just my guess, maybe: @TheButterZone, don't want to make many topics about charity, one topic for one hundred foundations with the title one foundation one renewal, maybe.

I could only manage to find a "single post" with a mobile icon. Is this what you were referring to?
- I'm not sure how it got there since it isn't among the current set of icons.

Same here. This is the first time I've heard this kind of function that shows if a user is using a mobile device to reply on a thread. I've been here since 2016 and there's nothing new about how the thread works.

Maybe you OP was using bitcoingarden that time, since I'm not familiar in that forum so perhaps they have the features you were saying.

I think that you may have misunderstood a feature.
I'd say it may be one of the social media icons you are referring to, are sure it looked like a mobile phone? I mean, the green globe means that the user has (or advertises) a website.
There's also the icon/link for sending personal message, which looks a little different if the user is online or offline.
But at least on a computer you can hover over the icons and what are they about.

Yes, this is what i am referring to. I can't also find the post where i saw it, but i am pretty sure i saw this several times. I will try to find another one and show it here.
I am surprised that others didn't notice this. I am not mistaken and not confused with other forums.

Look on my Mobile Icon, ye Mighty, and despair!

Simple Machines Forum has a couple of different WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) modes, to make browsing from mobile somewhat easier. These can be reached by appending ";wap" or ";wap2" to any page. ";wap" is very bare bones, and you cannot post from it. ";wap2" has a little bit of formatting and will allow you to post. If you post from a ";wap2" link, you get a mobile icon. You don't actually have to be on mobile.

Here's the WAP2 link for this thread if anyone wants to get a mobile icon for themselves: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5266655;wap2

The icon seems to be a derived Custom Theme (see https://bitcointalk.org/Themes/custom1/images/post/wireless.gif). I opened the post with Chome, and found it looking at the code in developer mode. The thread containing post found by @SFR10 talks about custom themes, and it seems thay were available at the beginning, claiming @theymos to install any theme (http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/). The path suggest that this was possibly the first one created (custom1), although altering the URL does not lead to any other themes following the CustomN pattern.
