It looks like the 8% dev tax for bitcoin cash is going to be implemented, do you guys think this is a good idea to also be brought to BTC as well in order to have funds for future development instead of relying on donations?

If you want to fund development yourself, great!

If you ever see someone trying to change bitcoin's consensus rules to literally stuff money into their pockets,  I hope you reject their efforts with all due vigour.  That kind of funding proposal is extremely centralizing.

Scammers gonna scam.  The fact that scamming has been reliably profitable in this ecosystem is no reason for Bitcoin to duplicate it.
 

I appreciate achow101 simplicity and agree.. Let bitcoin cash go down this 'tax' route and see how it works out. BTC is doing fine as is  8)

If an open source cryptocurrency can't be sustained by the voluntary contributions of its community (both in terms of code and money) it may be unsustainable. Or a cash grab.

things like this only work in centralized systems such as BCH where people either know they are centralized or don't care about it at all. the owners or the centralized authority that controls the code, nodes and mining (who also performed the 51% attack and nullified BCH immutability for good) can do whatever they want since they have full control.
if someone tried doing the same thing in bitcoin they would create an altcoin that nobody would ever follow because the overwhelming majority in bitcoin are against anything that could introduce the slightest amount of centralization let alone something this big.
there are also enough good developers who would continue working on the decentralized protocol.

Bitcoin has many developers and volunteer working around it. Everyone can freely propose any update they want.
Adding a feature like a "dev tax" where the fees goes to one entity and address then there would be some concerns about centralisation and we would also give this specific dev with the address, in my opinion, the right to call himself the "CEO of Bitcoin" or "Satoshi" because he gets the dev fees. Of course this sounds a little dumb because we all would know what this is but imagine a newcomer comes in and finds out that address and then claims to found the real "satoshi" because the dev fee goes to a developers address and many would think that this was implemented by Satoshi himself.

I could count many more reasons why this would be a bad idea but I hope you get it that this is just not good for bitcoin and decentralisation in general.

Bitcoin is designed with a decentralized system, I think this concept is the best for Bitcoin, relying on the cost of some sort of change the concept of Bitcoin origin is equally damaging what has been made. I think it's better to use other coins to make things centralization
