Title: Just wondering why my thread was deleted
Post by: kryptqnick on August 15, 2020, 12:53:19 PM
Greetings! Yesterday I've started a thread on whether impartiality is good or bad for betting on sports (the issue that it's hard to bet against your favorite team when you know you should), but today I've noticed that the thread is gone. I believe it was under this link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5268835 (now, of course, it shows an error). I haven't received a notification that the thread was deleted by moderators (maybe the notifications are not sent out anymore, I don't know), but I just want to know why this happened. Perhaps I've done something wrong, I want to ensure I don't make the same mistake, I guess. I thought it was a legit topic to discuss... Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

AFAIK, when a thread got deleted no one will receive the deleted notification even the topic starter as well.

But the reason for the deletion can be told only by the mod who trashed it.

Probably not deleted by mods but moved to trashcan that's why you didn't receive a notification.

For reason why it was moved, we'll have to check the content.

(looking for archive) I can't find it from your post history (archive (https://loyce.club/archive/members/55/559842.html)). I think topics moved to trashcan can't be scraped.

If I am to guess, it's probably because the mods find your topic unnecessary. I've noticed many topics being locked in the past as part of decluttering that board.

Thanks for the link to the archive and for the comment on the reason. The post is actually there, just without the name of the thread. Here it is: https://loyce.club/archive/posts/5499/54994686.html.

And here is the OP post
Quote
On the one hand, it seems intuitive that to be good at sports betting, a person should know the game and the teams well. On the other hand, when you're a fan of the team but know their chances aren't good, it's hard to bet against them, isn't it? So my question is the following: is it better not to be attached when it comes to sports betting? Do you feel like personal feelings in favor of or against some team can be an obstacle to rational judgements and bets? On the other hand, if a person doesn't have a favorite team or something like that, this person probably isn't big on sports, so probably knows less about the game. What do you think?

Yeah I guess so too, probably someone reported it as low value, or maybe there are similar topics to that one, so mods deleted it. For me personally doesn't look that bad, or at least not any worse than bunch of other topics on gambling board that are still there.

My bad. I've mistaken it as one of those comments because I was expecting a longer post.

Maybe not that bad but those types of topics usually ends up with more than five pages of spam comments.

Tryninja has included a notification button in his telegram bot which would notify you when boards you posted in are deleted so you can keep track of it - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5248878.msg54441882#msg54441882

I wonder why it doesn't appear on the modlog section because I saw there that removed topic are public but this one has been removed yet it doesn't shown on there. Any reason why? I mean it should have been there, right?

I've searched for the deleted topics because I thought they were just been moved but it appears nothing or maybe there's a lag of topics or replies been deleted on the modlog section like an hour lag like that. Just search for #5268835 it doesn't appear there.

It's likely the thread was moved to trashcan and not manually deleted.
Topics which are deleted show up in modlog, however when a thread is moved to trashcan (only accessible to staffs, global mods and admins) the action does not show up in modlog as the threads can be easily restored by global mods and admins.

Reply from a staff;
That topic has been moved to the "Trashcan" board (restorable), and not completely removed, that's why it's not showing in the modlog.

Since you didn't receive any notification and there is nothing onmodlog, then most probably the thread has been moved to trashcan.

I believe the reason behind this is that a mod considered it as duplicate. There is a similar topic where OP asked almost the same question as yours:
See here:
Emotions; while betting, will you risk losing your fund to back your club? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5187878.0)

The one who can give you the explanation for deletion is the mod who made it, maybe it has a lot of similar discussion from the gambling section and so it was deleted. I remember that thread asking if it is good or bad to bet on your favorite team.

I thought there will be just no notifications when you quoted someone's post then mods delete his post and so your post will be deleted too. Does mod have 'notify' or 'not notify' button?
