Title: Will Ethereum overpower Bitcoin in the future? Which side are you on?
Post by: jerrygarkia on September 01, 2020, 01:19:02 AM
The blockchain and cryptocurrency industry is an industry that is constantly changing and evolving. So it’s hard to give you a binary answer inmy opinion. I honestly love both the projects.

However when I look at it from a larger perspective, I realize that the industry is rapidly changing and the top project maybe something we least expect. I see a lot of development happening in the Web3 ecosystem with respect to Polkadot. I see new projects like Concordium which are exploring new paradigms like Faas( Finality as a Service ) and are backed by years of Academic Research. DeFi is changing the way we know Finance.

If there is one thing we can learn from the industry, its that change is the only constant and BTC is King. It has always been.

Ofcourse Ethereum is very innovative, it is infact one of the most innovative projects out there, but BTC will continue to dominate unless Ethereum brings something so huge that it will lead mass adoption and will be seen a better store of value than BTC. Ethereum was never intended to be a store of value.

Ethereum has already contributed a lot of significant developments in the crypto space but it does not mean that it will dethrone Bitcoin. Bitcoin's top spot is not just about technicalities. It is there not because it is the fastest, cheapest, most anonymous, etc. It is there because it is the founding father of all the cryptocurrencies that we now know. And that is enough for the largest community of crypto supporters to trust Bitcoin before anything else.

There is no talking about Ethereum overpowering Bitcoin or vice versa. Bitcoin will always stay on top. It is the most widely trusted and accepted and known. Ethereum is also the king but only among altcoins.

When you say overpower, what exactly are you driving at? I'll just assume you meant price and replacing it as the no1 cryptocurrency in trading volume. For the price, that's unlikely to happen. Bitcoin has a finite maximum supply but that of ethereum is infinite meaning the total coin that would be tradable for both project, that of bitcoin will always have advantage over ethereum will serve as a catalyst for the continue dominate of bitcoin over ethereum (just in the price aspect).

As for the trading aspect (market capitalization) I think it's just a matter of time before bitcoin gets overthrown either by ethereum, USDT or some other project. These doesn't mean they'll be priced more than bitcoin but just that more individuals would be interested in trading this pairs instead of bitcoin. In the last 2 years the news had less to do with bitcoin excluding the halving news. From the likes of ICO, privacy focused projects to IEO and now DeFi, altcoins has been the driving force of the industry and that's not stopping anytime soon.

We all know bitcoin is no longer the highest priced cryptocurrency, Yearn.finance is (currently trading at $30,500). First mover advantage, trust etc, is on the side of bitcoin though so it won't be easy for any altcoin to overthrow.

I getting the feeling that bitcoin would not retain its position if the defi and yield farming continues. This new concept of mining has an easy way than a regular mining via equipment so probably there are miners who knows how to trade will be interested with these kind of business.

Considering eth will shift to PoS isnt it convenient when they already there? The only choice of miners is to find a new coin to mine or shift to a different approach of farming which is we know gave a lot of profits.

Im positive either yfi, eth, dot could reach bitcoin marketcap but not now, maybe few years depending on the intense of defi now.

It's great to see ETH2.0 tested without any issues showing up at all, this is one of the reasons why ETH pumped like crazy for the past few days. It even reached $462 today, which is a new ATH for the past 1 year.

You also have to admire what Vitalik and the team is doing, they're not stopping with the project development and is kinda similar to what NEM has been doing. If ETH2.0 is for ETH, they got Symbol which is blockchain for businesses (https://micky.com.au/nem-blockchain-infrastructure-for-business-enterprise/), people are already using it prior to their token launch.

There are a lot of projects built on the ethereum network, and DEX exchanges are overloading the ethereum network. Solutions are needed to make ethereum faster, less expensive. The developer of ethereum is expected to launch ethereum 2.0 soon.
Bitcoin is different from ethereum, it was first born and more interested in the world, many organizations are now buying bitcoins to include in their portfolios.
Every bitcoin's price action has a huge effect on the market as a whole. I think Bitcoin is still the number 1 crypto on the market.

as long as most of people sees BTC as the most precious crypto ethereum not gonna over power btc. when everyone thinks about crypto they always remembered of bitcoin and not ethereum. If Ethereum could change that mindset world wide then sure it can overpower bitcoin but near in the future I can't see that to happen although I do agree that the changes in crypto market is so rapid.
There are for example many coins out there making some new innovation but can't overtake bitcoin position for one simple reason, because bitcoin is branded as the most precious currency and when comparing to ETH it's like comparing gold to steel considering how much gaps it has by each coin prices alone.

all crypto markets are focused on bitcoin, so I think it is very difficult for ethereum to replace bitcoin, in the development maybe many large projects that use the ethereum network into their projects, obviously it will benefit ethereum as well in the future, only a few are less good namely transaction fees expensive and high, the problem they cannot solve is how to make it cheaper

Not gonna happen sir, people and crypto community supports Bitcoin more than ethereum and Bitcoin has the highest Marketcap and volume, Bitcoin is the first and well recognized than other coins, I believe things will be this way for a very long time to come

It is not easy to replace btc or eth by any new coin. Even these two giants cannot replace eachother due to the uniqueness and their own class, features, community and ecosystem.

I will give my opinion on these two currencies:

Bitcoin: bitcoin is widely accepted because it has a very good philosophy, that of decentralization and the fact of having an anonymous creator makes people feel more confident that something is worth investing in the long term, the bitcoin community is that decides a lot of things and that Is another factor that makes people like Bitcoin

ETH: it has a lot of innovation, but it has the obstacle of its creators not being anonymous and having the power to decide many things, look at a great example now: a twitter of some ETH creator talking about ETH 2.0 takes the price of ETH to the moon , obviously we can clearly see that the opposite can happen, yes it could happen that some creator of ETH speaks ill of ETH the price of ETH touch the deepest place on earth which would be an unforgettable drop, but this cannot happen with bitcoin

did not catch where you are heading with this post?
you say that both coins have the future, and i agree, but here is the topic "the rate of rise" that both coins will have, and i think that ETH will going to have steeper curve to the upside than BTC in a short term period, could not talk about long term perspective since it is a very dynamic market, and both coins have a lot to process in a near term to be certain what their prospective development will be, hopefully ETH will be able to launch ETH2.0 at the time, and this DeFi surge will not implode catastrophic at one moment, and ETH could de-throne BTC next year

Vitalik called bitcoin a" collector's item"at the time. Bitcoin will remain the world's gold and will take its place among the world's assets.
Ethereum is a more progressive coin that is needed for the network to function. Ethereum is evolving in the right direction by changing its algorithm.
The value of this coin depends on its usefulness and not on the number of megawatts of electricity spent on mining.

I could remember we've discussed this kind of topic over and over, this is  just a recycled topic.  Not trying to derogating the poster in any form at all.

On the issue of ETH overpowering BTC.  The fact is that, it might be difficult, but nothing is impossible in life, it may not be possible now but there could be possibility sometimes in the future, especially if bitcoin fails to develop at expected rate and ETH is getting some exponential use case, definitely there could be some shift in power.  So, it might be terribly difficult, but the possibility cannot be ruled out.

I predict, that the only way Ethereum can overpower Bitcoin is in demand race, but not in price comparison or popularity.

As CryptopreneurBrainboss mentioned, "finite maximum supply" of bitcoin will only stimulate price growth, but infinite amount of Ethereum will make it used more widely. Look how it was: Ethereum stimulated projects to use blockchain in different fields, first were ICO boom, now DeFi. And what about Bitcoin - from anonymous and jet transparent payment system transferred into an instrument of getting profit.

My vote is still on Bitcoin the dominance is still there and I don't see it changing in the next two years Ethereum is still a long way to go but they are still developing and evolving with new features every year.
Dominance:
BTC 54.8%
ETH 13.0%
USDT 3.35%

There are a lot of works to be done adoption is still ongoing and for people to get into the other coins, they must go through Bitcoin first, it's the one that started it all and the basic of Cryptocurrency is Bitcoin.

I also think that Etherum will have a hard time to overtake Bitcoin as the dominating cryptocurrency.
Bitcoin will just always have the advantage of being the first of its kind.
If you talk to people that are not into crypto then they only know bitcoin an nothing else.
Ethereum offers more possibilities though.

this is only related to popularity in the market. not related to the technology being developed. it is very far for ETH to reach BTC. but as of now, they are walking side by side, and responding to each other is already looking good for ETH.

I'm definitely on the side of bitcoin. Imagine a coin that started it all and still holding strong with dominance over 50%. I cant Imagine Ethereum gonna overpower Bitcoin anytime soon.
Ethereum rely too heavily on projects to use their platform but Bitcoin used widely by many people for transaction. It doesn't need Ethereum's gimmick to keep its dominance until now.
I'm very sure if people are being given these two crypto for free and to choose only one they would definitely choose Bitcoin. Bitcoin also already tested for massive traffic which proves that it is reliable for use to use as a currency.

Overpower in terms of what??
In terms of trust, Bitcoin is still #1.
In terms of development, yes Ethereum is way ahead compare to Bitcoin and we knew it all.
In terms of Market Cap, Bitcoin is still the top 1.

In short, I don't see any possible reasons that Ethereum may overpower Bitcoin in terms of Market Cap although we know already that in terms of development Ethereum is ahead compare to it.

Its hard to see this happening soon, its also hard to give assumptions now since eth is far too behind bitcoin. BTC has a lot of following backing it up and its already established the name and proved its worth. Tho its possible if eth manages to overcome this, but that future is far too beyond. Maybe someday, but not anytime soon.

Why are people still acting like Bitcoin and Ethereum are mutually exclusive, or even competitors at all? Ethereum obviously wants to evolve into being "the world's computer", even Vitalik Buterin obviously admits it - a platform using blockchain technology for things like DApps and DeFi. This is not something bitcoin was designed to do, the two cryptocurrencies have very different use cases.

I agree about the constantly changing situation but not up to overpowering Bitcoin because it has been discussed before that Bitcoin and Ethereum has different route or different pages of roles in the crypto industry. If you are talking about the price, it's not gonna be possible either because Etherium has fallen into the category of Altcoins that hasn't been get up to its ATH until now. Yes, we see some improvement but not the actual price that it reaches up to $800+ since last 2018. There are lots of differences between these two Major Cryptocurrencies but at the end of the day, we will see them both prospering on their own way.

You can read more about there difference here: https://www.investopedia.com/articles/investing/031416/bitcoin-vs-ethereum-driven-different-purposes.asp

Comparing them is really not worthwhile at all as they are serving two different paths in crypto. And we should be grateful for the existence of these two important networks in the crypto community.  And of course, we are indebted with the creation of bitcoin network, where it all began. There will be businesses that will benefit from eth network while there are some that will stick to bitcoin. It relies on what type of business and customers they are looking at. Eth as you pointed out, DApps and DeFi will be their major customers while businesses that do think of the popularity aspect, will prefer bitcoin.

This has been discussed so many times asking if Ethereum will overpower, surpass, or whatever the term they used or something overtake the current situation. As I can say, maybe not maybe yes, the time comes there is an improvement happen, the two leading cryptocurrencies has also different usage in different aspects. A short insight is Bitcoin is good to store value while Ethereum is for the decentralized network and Defi is a good project that has lately discovered.

IMO, Bitcoin will remain on the top and Ethereum as a leading cryptocurrency of all altcoins. It will take probably more time even how many upgrades this Ethereum had, there is no exact number of market supply while Bitcoin has a fixed supply.

Overpower? let see what will happen but my faith is on Bitcoin.

Ethereum is very evolving and I am very overwhelmed to see the tweet vitalik buterin about possibility of further lowering the transaction fee as part of the project ETH 2.0. This is the reason why I believe with time, we might see a dramatic overtake of the Bitcoin by the Ethereum. I know bitcoin is always favored being the oldest and also has the sole function of being used as a digital currency but when we have another interesting coin with a team that continuously improve the blockchain, I think we might have a rethink

Well the current price pull certainly makes it look ethereum is going to moon. But it would be a long time for bitcoin to be dethroned and it would take Ethereum even longer to beat bitcoin. As ethereum is a utility token, it needs to keep its transaction fees and price in check but they can compensate that by beating bitcoin on total market value with a large volume. Ethereum's supply is already 12 times that of bitcoin and with a steady increase in price and supply, they could dethrone bitcoin on the total marketap but it would be nearly impossible for any new tokens to target the bitcoins price.

Bitcoin and Ethereum aren't the same thing, Ethereum is the king of smart contract and that's just it but Bitcoin is more, there are many new coins that has better transaction speed and more advanced tech than these coins but still they can't beat both, investors trust these coins more than any

I have not closed my mind on the possibility that one day, ethereum will dethroned bitcoin and replace its position but it might take more years to wait. Bitcoin is currently enjoying its top position and is gaining more huge gains compared with ethereum so probably, things will not change at these early times. And even if this crypto market keeps on changing, the fact that bitcoin is still the king  of crypto will never be easily changed.

While many projects are now using the Ethereum network, this is certainly a positive thing for Ethereum. Ethereum developers are also launching Ethereum 2.0. Even then I think the crypto world is still dependent on Bitcoin, with the rise and fall of Bitcoin prices affecting the crypto market. So I believe Ethereum will not be able to surpass Bitcoin in the near future.

Tokens created on ethereum blockchain will never allow it to reach after some level but this is not the case with bitcoin but it doesn't mean we have to skip ethereum. Both are good projects but keep in mind that tokens and other shit coins which also comes under altcoin so overall it will get affected when bitcoin dominance keeps increasing.

I do not think so.

Although the introduction of Ethereum has addressed and solved most of the problems related with bitcoin, what separates them completely is the amount of people that are willing to purchase such cryptocurrencies in the market. The price of ethereum compared to bitcoin is significantly high which I do not think that the former will overtake in the long future.

The only thing I envision that might dethrone bitcoin as the reigning cryptocurreny if countries provide a massive prohibition, regulation, or ban on bitcoin. From there, people would be constrained to purchase and its price will slowly decrease. But this is very hypothetical which I do not see will happen anytime soon.

I believe some people behind Bitcoin think they are acting in the best interest on Bitcoin but they have chased new blood away from the community. You need to let people experiment and through this people will fill welcome

if talking in terms of price, recently YFI was one of the Defi coins that had a high selling value above the BTC price. but I am not saying that BTC is bad, BTC is one of the best coins among them. I have never had any doubts or concerns about storing BTC & ETH for a long time either. both of these cryptoqurrencies are profitable investments.

It is true and evident that etherum is throwing waves and increasing altcoins dominance against bitcoin, and it is also easy to admit that DeFi are sending shock waves to how we see finance and know finance, but neither etherum or DeFi is able to overpower bitcoin. Bitcoin has been strong, leading, and surviving for over a decade and as a strong and firm believer of consistency, i believe that a short term fuse and hypes about DeFi changing the face of finance, and etherum sudden movement is not enough to usurp bitcoin on the longer run.

Because in the end, both you and me would prefer to get paid in Bitcoin, and not DeFi or etherum

Bitcoin is a stand alone cryptocurrency but ethereum is a blockchain that other tokens runs on, the difference is clear and also looking at their features they are totally not the same thing, I don't think ethereum will be able to beat Bitcoin because the interest on Bitcoin is huge than that of Ethereum
of course ethereum can never beat bitcoin but other coins still have the potential to beat bitcoin, bitcoin is just an old coin and has a relatively large supply, so it will be difficult to make the price go up, so bitcoin can be defeated with coins that have supply is less than bitcoin and has a very high demand.

I invest in Bitcoin and in Ethereum, I am trying to be on both sides! Whoever wins the top place will be good for me, and it's
what diversifying means, you never hold all of your eggs in one basket.
I believe that it will stay the same, Bitcoin will be first, Ethereum will be second, but if that changes I will be secured. It will be
good for many of us who have more Ethereums than Bitcoins.
It's not on me to take sides here, I hope both will have great future, different projects with different purposes, why not to have
both and secure your future.

Bitcoin does not have a large supply compared to some altcoins which has billions of supply.

I agree, ETH can't beat bitcoin despite of the hype because Bitcoin also rises with the hype and investor's choice when the market is bearish is just to put their money on bitcoin as it's the most stable in the market.

Let's look at the market for awhile, despite the fact that ETH looks very bullish thus far but bitcoin still own more than 50% dominance, and that's owned as that dominance is not against ETH only but the entire altcoins.  Per report in CMC (https://coinmarketcap.com/), ETH has around 14% dominance only.

The truth is both Bitcoin and Ethereum has contributed a whole lot to the growth of the entire crypto space, on one hand, Bitcoin made the crypto space possible while on the other hand, Ethereum makes the further expansion of the crypto space possible. But irrespective of that, one of the wonderful features or attributes of Bitcoin is that, it is the most trusted and secured of all coins, now owing to the fact it is more trusted, in my own opinion makes it perfect as the best coin which will continue being on top. Yes Ethereum is decentralized, but not as decentralized and trusted like Bitcoin.
Therefore to attempt to answer the question, I do not think any  other coin have the capability to overpower Bitcoin, not Ethereum or any other coin. Talking of most projects today, they are only driven by hype but Bitcoin is driven by a much higher purpose.

Even if we will side to Ethereum but the big whales or investors will side to bitcoin then we cannot do a thing about it even in the future. But if the users can overtake the big whales holding then that is the time that crypto prizes can't be monopolize easily.

Right now, most of the crypto are very dependent to bitcoin price but if I were to side. I will definitely choose bitcoin even if it has plenty of disadvantages as it is the
King of crypto currencies.

If you look at daily settlement value, you will see ETH already surpassed Bitcoin in settlement value, I've never seen such kind of things before. Over the past few months, DeFi liquidity mining has been causing significant turmoil in the crypto market. The DeFi project has given a new impetus to Ethereum. All types of ETH based project like DeFi, tokens, stable-coin are supporting ETH to overtake BTC.

Bitcoin and Ethereum are two completely different things.... They're not in competition with one another.

What you're essentially saying is "Will electricity overpower the dollar in the future?" Ether is a gas unit used to power the Ethereum virtual machine (EVM), whereas Bitcoin is a store of value and transactional unit of value. They are not equivalent, even though they are both cryptocurrencies.

Ethereum arguably has more use cases than Bitcoin, hence why it has grown so fast. It's also not competing with banks or other massive centralized institutions like Bitcoin is.

I think Ether will achieve a higher market cap than Bitcoin at some point, but that by no means it has overpowered it. When it comes to payments, it's all bitcoin baby.

Ethereum can go to the path just like bitcoin of being a store value. Look to the POS, as you have said a change is constant but bitcoin will remain.

While for Ethereum, when it's already activated as a POS. Being it as a store of value is about to start. I'm looking forward to it. I'm on both sides, I like and have them both.

Technologically, it did it a long time ago (just like there are other coins superior in tech to ETH already) but in price and market adoption? Who knows, it could happen but it will probably take a long time, especially since there's not the same amount of institutional investment in ETH yet. Impossible? No, but very hard road ahead. Ethereum is awesome, I love ethereum, I think it will go up in price a lot as well, it is definitely undervalued right now and if you have any money to invest to it I say it is much better to invest into ethereum right now instead of investing into bitcoin because eth could do 3x in the next 4 months where I see bitcoin not making that much stride.

However there is no way ethereum could surpass bitcoin overall, sure a faster increase sooner but that doesn't mean that it will pass it, we are talking about 25x or so increase while bitcoin staying still, that is not realistic. 25x increase is not something to scuff at, that is record breaking by almost 10 times and I do not think that something like that could happen while the market just sits around and watches it doing it.

Stop joking, there is too much at stake and too many interested persons. Bitcoin has long become a common speculative asset to make money on which many sharks will run into. Now the hype around the new ICO DEFI will subside and everyone will plunge into a bear hibernation for four years

Bitcoin introduced blockchain technology and Ethereum came to existence due to the development of Blockchain technology and Bitcoin is the foundation of it.  Bitcoin will always be valuable so far as blockchain exist.

Discussing blockchain, then something as proof of the future of technology, the development of something will definitely lead to a more efficient and effective direction. In cryptocurrency, bitcoin is known as the origin of crypto, king, mother and several other names, this makes bitcoin the dominator of the crypto market. While it is clear that the ethereum platform has better intelligence and development, why does bitcoin dominate? That's because the environment makes users trust more and more. I am on the ethereum side, because in terms of platform development, it's just that bitcoin will still have a very large dominance from year to year, this is a domino effect from the environment that affects users that bitcoin is king.

If you scroll through old threads where they have discussed regarding "Why ETH will surpass BTC", "How ETH is best than BTC"and see the discussion then you will get answer like, ETH is best platform and supporting huge ERC20 std projects (previous versions) and thus more and more investment will come into it. Everyone thought this will really boost the very nature of ETH investment and cross BTC capitalisation.

In reality it never happened to till date. In fact in 2018-19 year ETH went down ATL and BTC went ATH. There are still many loop holes in this project.

For what I know, the competition is getting fierce every day. Right now Ethereum is in the lead, but that could change in the future as other Blockchain platforms take the world by storm. It's all a matter of adapting to the latest technologies in order to stay ahead of the game. With Ethereum constantly delaying its PoS upgrade, its competitors could gain an advantage in mainstream adoption. I don't think Ethereum will overpower Bitcoin anytime soon since it's not meant to be a store of value. Ethereum works better as a complement to the main Bitcoin blockchain than a replacement. Comparing both Bitcoin vs Ethereum is like comparing apples vs oranges.

Needless to say, anything can happen in crypto land. I've seen many prominent projects like Polkadot, Tezos, and Cosmos advancing in development and innovation. If Ethereum fails to scale, you could expect these alternative blockchain networks to take its place anytime soon. But taking down Bitcoin is another story. The premier cryptocurrency has brought Blockchain technology to the world, with a solid foundation built upon it. You can't take down something that started it all. At this point it's practically impossible for Ethereum or any other cryptocurrency to overpower Bitcoin in any way. Ethereum might as well focus on being an alternative blockchain network for smart contracts than a store of value. For different purposes/situations in life, will be the type of cryptocurrency to use in the mainstream world. I'm on Bitcoin's side since no other cryptocurrency matches it in terms of security and decentralization. With ETH switching to PoS soon, it will become less decentralized than Bitcoin. And you and I know, this reduces the odds of ETH overpowering BTC in the future. Just my thoughts ;D

Secondly, it is the most popular fav coin of the masses, named king of crypto, and holding that unbeatable title exclusively.

Bitcoin will always be the number one, simply because it is the original cryptocurrency. All the other cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum, Litecoin and Cardano have plagiarized large parts of their idea from Bitcoin and then added small enhancements to remove the deficiencies. That is not enough to overtake Bitcoin. In order to do that, you need a better idea. The current bunch of alts can't provide that.

But in the future, that's kinda tricky to guess, because anything can happen. With more development and others it might be possible. But overpower in term of what? Is it Value, Volume, Popularity or something else? Well, we're waiting for Eth 2.0 so I expect at least something good should happen at that time.

With the level of transaction volume as well as active trading in the market and the level of trust of investors, Bitcoin will still have the largest market value. Ethereum is a good coin and is used by many projects but in my opinion in terms of market cap value it will take time for ethereum to surpass Bitcoin
There is no coin that can be compared to Bitcoin at this time and if compared to Ethereum it is a very lame comparison. I think every coin has its own strengths, but when it comes to technology, Ethereum is the best choice for the future.

However, when it comes to this market, people will first mention Bitcoin and this is what makes this coin always have great value in the crypto market.

It is very difficult to say, "overpower" has many facets of meaning. It has been answered by @OP itself that in terms of platform, ethereum is overpower because they are constantly being developed and are getting more advanced in terms of the blockchain platform. There are many sides of the meaning that we can get on this topic and it returns to each user to think and refer to who has the meaning of "overpower". I'm on both sides, to be honest bitcoin and ethereum don't fight so why should I choose one side only, if we can choose both sides.

Yeah bitcoin definitely has its own fanbase that's not gonna switch to any altcoins other than just for making profit and Ethereum too has fanbase all over the world. but, Ethereum's growing pace both in market cap and development of projects within the platform is kinda fast that it's not impossible for it to eventually overpower bitcoin in the future but whether it's gonna happen or not it's always good to have some kind of competition.
The exchanges out there also keep contributing to build up the ETH hype, kinda curious when the future unfolds and we gotta see which coin dominates.

There is actually nothing Ethereum can do that Bitcoin cannot do better.. Ethereum should stay with it's original goal to be the Smart contract platform and not try to compete with Bitcoin as a currency/commodity.  ;)

The Ethereum gas introduction has severely hampered Ethereum's chances to be the King of Crypto currencies and the introduction of the Lightning Network has strengthened Bitcoin's chance to stay on top as a currency/commodity platform.

As you said, things change quickly in the Crypto world, so nothing is guaranteed and set in stone.  ;)

Taken that Eth has developed massively in terms of innovations and blockchain services offered, however, Bitcoin still stands as the most accepted crypto coin because it was the first one to be created. Acceptability trumps development here. It's like asking people to switch to a new religion and dump the one they grew up with. It is always going to be difficult.

It's a weird one. I mean most of us are big bitcoin moonboys. That being said I cannot disregard the absolute utility Ethereum brings to the table. That has been made very clear with the recent surge in Defi and honestly the influence of Uniswap is a massive leap for the industry. Staking pools like yearn and fiscus.fyi (https://fiscus.fyi/) would never have been possible without it. So Ethereum has its place. Keep in mind in most places around the world the only way to enter crypto is only via btc and it will be for a long time to come.

If we are going to take this current situation where there a re a lot of scam DeFi projects in the Ethereum network plus the fee is very high I don't think Ethereum will or can over power Ethereum they should first check scalability of their network and stop this fake DeFi's from launching
in their network, Ethereum has been in the number two spot for a long time and they are always a threat but I don't think it's capable.

Bitcoin still gathered more trust and support both from crypto peps and non crypto followers, the fact that it was the very first crypto coin being known from the sphere keeps him in place as top crypto of all time. With you statement in regards to ETH the chain will continue
to be like that as developers both true and scam projects used this system.

Quote
We couldn't really be sure about the future we don't even know what would the future developments that would happen in both ETH and BTC.
So we couldn't say if ETH could overpower Bitcoin in the future or it would just stay on the shadow of Bitcoin forever.

That's the future to show us. We don't have that capabilities as we are referring everything to current acceptance and developments.

Bitcoin (https://www.worldcoinindex.com/coin/bitcoin) is the first coin ever and I can not imagine Ethereum will over power Bitcoin in the future.
Even though it could happen, it seems that it will not be easy for Ethereum to master Bitcoin, because logically it has been seen, Bitcoin is growing very strong and even Bitcoin has been considered a cryptocurrency icon by some people in crypto.

I'm always on Bitcoin sides especially now that there are a lot of questions about Ethereum's scalability, Bitcoin have proven themselves in every worst scenario or situation it encounter, the dominance is always there it never went down to 50% I have not known of any investor without Bitcoin in their portfolio and I always encourage newbies to study Bitcoin first before any coin in the market.

you are right, bitcoin will always come first in the crypto market compared to ethereum. But ethereum is not without opportunities in the market. ethereum is a sizeable asset and has been alongside bitcoin for quite some time in the crypto market. comparing the two I think not so good. have both I think is the best. ethereum is not a bad asset.

As you said, things change quickly in the Crypto world, so nothing is guaranteed and set in stone.  ;)

Exactly. Ethereum isn't meant to replace Bitcoin in the long run. It's actually meant to be a complement of the main Bitcoin blockchain by providing smart contracts functionality. The fact that Ethereum has an undefined supply, makes it unsuitable as a store of value. It's works more as a currency because of its inflationary model. While Ethereum is superior than Bitcoin in technical terms, it's a completely different thing. Comparing both ETH vs BTC is like comparing apples vs oranges.

I believe that Ethereum will remain as the second-largest cryptocurrency in the world, as no other altcoins matches its level of development and innovation. But Bitcoin will always be the "King of Crypto" because it's the father of Blockchain technology. This has given Bitcoin first-mover advantage on the market, unlike no other cryptocurrency in the world today. In the end, ETH will grow alongside BTC in terms of mainstream adoption. Most people are on the "Bitcoin side" because it's the one cryptocurrency which started this craze. Ethereum still has its supporters, but it's not as comparable as Bitcoin today. Depending on different situations in life, will be the type of cryptocurrency to use in the real world. Let's hope that both blockchains (ETH and BTC) scale in order to boost mainstream adoption as much as possible. Just my opinion :)

actully i'm not sure about overpowering btc/eth - i think each of this crypto has its own marketshare and could be used for diffrent purposes. i believe eth in the best blockchain for smaert contracts, defi tools and dex projects, and btc is more about payment/exchange currency

Ethereum can't overpower bitcoin

1. Bitcoin is more recognized than Ethereum
2. Bitcoin have the lowest max supply
3. Bitcoin controls the highest volume and liquidity, if Bitcoin revaluate all other coins will follow
4. We don't know what the CEO of Bitcoin looks like, bitcoin practice decentralized more than other

likely actual strategy, there's no real battle between btc and eth.. eth is really good as a technology base for ico and defi projects... i choose for investment only eth based dex projects

I don't believe that ETH would overpower Bitcoin even in the future.
The only thing that ETH could overpower BTC is it's supply other than that I believe that there are no other thing ETH could overpower BTC.

Based on the historical data and current market status of btc, I can say that no other coin can overpower btc even ethereum. Btc is continuously dominating the crypto market because of its stability, legitimacy and very wide scope. But like what I said, it is based on the current status of btc, we don't know what will happen for the next few months of years.

As much as I like ethereum, I don't think they can overpower bitcoin even in the next years to come. They have different use case in the crypto market. And right now, a lot of crypto users are leaning on btc as their first choice. One common reason is that, most of their local crypto exchanges have only btc to their fiat conversion. So they have no other choice but to convert their crypto to btc, in order to get their fiat.

I think BTC is a brand and is known to be the ambassador of blockchain tech and innovative digital economy so it will remain at the top always while Eth is a whole lot ecosystem of applications, softwares, automation, coding and contracts that will eventually bring adoption. So both are different and unique and both can survive together and take the tech forward.

Bitcoin was a king until now no one can replace and take his crown as a king i believe with that
But no king can rule forever i believe someday someone will replace him
And ethereum was a prince that can take that place the number 1 place with lot of innovation that vitalik and the team make
With defi hype that using ethereum blockchain will make ethereum more strong
And we all wait for ethereum 2.0 right??
I believe there still lot of great idea and inovation project will come from vitalik and the team
So im in ethereum side

It seems to me that Ethereum has every chance of becoming the number 1 cryptocurrency in the world. Great prospects and opportunities. If you believe the news, Bitcoin will sooner or later begin to lose value. Here Ethereum will take its place to the delight of its fans. You just have to wait

I don’t think it can.
Btc is btc. It's demand, supply, market cap everything is larger in great numbers from eth.
So i don’t think it can over come untill btc collapse.
But who knows anything can happen.

Ethereum, of course, is constantly gaining momentum and we all of course know that the technologies and capabilities of Ethereum are incredible and are constantly very popular, but the fact is that most of the big players prefer to invest in bitcoin, and therefore it is too early to think that Ethereum will be able to overtake Bitcoin, but in the future, of course, everything is possible and a lot depends on from the big players.

It's dominance rise because it's mainly the primary option for those fund management or investment company when it comes to diversifying portfolio. It's also the reason why bitcoin was so hyped lately.

Meanwhile despite getting its share of pump ethereum struggles a lot dealing with its own blockchain traffic due to defi craze and much more they are not really good with scalability. Honestly, it's obvious that eth not gonna overpower btc and to consider that eth doesn't have limit on its total supply.

I don't think that will happen. After all, Bitcoin is the father of Blockchain technology. It has first mover advantage on the market. When you compare both BTC and ETH's market caps, you'll notice that there's a large difference between them. Ethereum may be good, but it's not as good as Bitcoin is. The pioneer cryptocurrency (BTC) is unbeatable when it comes to decentralization and censorship-resistance. It's the golden standard of crypto. Because of these and many other reasons, Ethereum will only remain as the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap for the foreseeable future.

Nonetheless, crypto behaves in many strange and bizarre ways. Who knows what will happen in a few years from now? I've seen cryptocurrencies rise all the way from the ground to the top in an instant. At the same time, I've seen cryptocurrencies go all the way from the top to the ground in a short amount of time. Everything will depend on demand/mainstream adoption above anything else. Right now, Ethereum is capable of doing what Bitcoin does and much more. Technically-speaking, ETH is superior than BTC. But it lacks the branding Bitcoin has, leading it towards non-stop success. By all means, the odds of Ethereum overpowering Bitcoin are very slim. Just my thoughts ;D

Everything can happen in the world of crypto, nothing is impossible, especially since ethereum has become an important part of crypto, almost all crypto projects must use ethereum, but in my opinion, this year ethereum has not been able to beat bitcoin, bitcoin is still very popular and attractive in the community
