Title: Should I accept Bitcoin for payments on my online store?
Post by: S_crypto on November 04, 2020, 04:37:41 PM
I'm considering to possibly add Bitcoin and other altcoins as a way to pay for goods purchased on my online store.

Is this a good idea? Are there any risks (other than the volatility)?

Is anyone really going to use this?

I'm afraid that my customers may not be much into cryptos, but I guess that it's hard to tell until you try ...
I also have some doubts on the technical side.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance

The more payment methods, the better. Although, I don't think that anyone is going to buy with bitcoin currently. You realize that he/she has to pay product's price + ~$7 in order to get the transaction quickly confirmed. If the fee was much lower I would suggest adding it.

Well, know your customer and your country if you know lots of people using bitcoin on your country, then why not give it a try, but of course, don't just bitcoin, give your customers other options for payment.

It is much better if you will not focus only on bitcoin as type of payment . Let your customers be free to choose what type of payment they want to have. It is a good idea to add bitcoin in your options but ofcourse you should study the positive and negative side of it. Don't accept bitcoin as a payment if you do not have enough knowledge when it comes to this because you might lose everything you built in just one mistake.

Putting up crypto should really be just an option aside on using up your main payment which is on fiat so that you wont able to miss out to those people who do tend to buy in using fiat
because if you do make up some transition fully with crypto and people doesnt really have idea on what it is then you would surely miss out on some sales because they dont have any options.
So better stick with two just in case because not all of your customers would really be knowledgeable about bitcoin or crypto payments. Is your online store is just focused on local sales
or international ones?

Using good cryptocurrencies like bitcoin, ether and litecoin will be good, but what you will have to do it to use algorithm that will make the price correct in fiat but fluctuating in crypto prices, it is a nice idea. It is just an alternative to fiat payment, you can try it for a while to see if customers will make use of the payment method before you will concur if to use it or not. About the volatility, I will advice you to look into analyzes very well. But, I do know that bitcoin is a good example of delfationary cryptocurrency and can be used.

Well, know your customer and your country if you know lots of people using bitcoin on your country, then why not give it a try, bit of course, don't just bitcoin for payment, give your customers options for payment.

Of course the main payment system will still be with fiat, eventually, bitcoin and cryptos would be an alternative option.
The store is more focused on local sales in the UK for now... as far as I know, cryptos are quite popular here.

I like the idea of being able to get some cryptos (not everything) instead of fiat as payment... it would save me some time instead of having to buy from the exchanges ;D

The one of my main concerns is: how safe is it to accept cryptos as payment on a website?  ???

Volatility is one of the thing that most often thwarts people's intention to accept bitcoin as a mean of payment (perhap out of fear). But you shouldn't be afraid to do it because I think you can sell bitcoins as soon as you receive them. Use your bitcoin deposit address on exchange to accept bitcoin and this method can also be used as a way to exempt you from transaction fee and confirm them with the buyer as soon as you receive them. I think you can customize it so that the good you sell and the money you receive are what you want.

I don't think there's a bigger risk than volatility, but the security of your account or wallet should always be a priority. Give it a try, you might like it after a while but still comply with the rule that apply in your country regarding government regulation regarding bitcoin and other crypto.

The one of my main concerns is: how safe is it to accept cryptos as payment on a website?  ???
I think this method will be safe only if you can properly practice the security of your wallet and aseet.

You said online store right then I don't think the fees are big burden for you now because you can wait until the payment reaches enough confirmation even the transaction can be done with moderate fee to avoid extra expenses for your customer.

Regardless of the price, if your product is worth buying. People buy.

The risk is there but it would just be minimal when you learn to convert your BTC to stablecoin in a timely manner. You wouldn't completely forget about fiat anyway, you still will be accepting fiat. The risk will be worth when the price of BTC also is rising. It's an exciting time for someone and merchants to accept crypto because its about to bull.  ;D

Adding crypto payments would be complex for your online store, and you must consult from your customer first before adding a cost in constructing your online store with crypto integration, if your customers are demanding for such method of payment then you should go for it. But then again the risk is high since the number one factor of having these cryptos is the volatility especially with bitcoin and ethereum, I doubt people would look for another crypto besides these two  ???

If your sell increase or more people want to pay Bitcoin after shopping then accept Bitcoin for payment on your online store. Bitcoin is a volatile coin, If you think that or hesitate that if Bitcoin price decrease then you have much loss then you can exchange Bitcoin to stable coin. For exchange i will suggest you binance.

I think that is a good start and idea to accept bitcoin as payment method in your store but of course more choices of payment method the better. But always put on your mind that accepting bitcoin as payment in your store is full of risk because you already know that bitcoin is volatile. Still, it's up to you if you will take risk and help bitcoin to spread in your community.

Is it a good idea to add payment gateway on the online store? Yes. The more options - the better for customers because they love diversity when it comes to payments, that's why we have a lot of providers including PayPal, skrill, Netteller and others.
When it comes to task whether adding of bitcoin payments may benefit your online store or not, first of all, it comes to researches and data analyze. What is your niche? Do you have opponents that offer crypto payments? What is your audience? Where are they from? How popular is Bitcoin in their countries? Maybe there isn't any useful data and you have to just be the first one who will do that. In any case, you won't lose anything by adding it.

The problem that you can also considered is the transaction fee . What wallet you are plan to use for accepting crypto payments custodial wallet or a wallet that you own the keys,?

Don't forget that you need to always paid for the fees Everytime you will send transaction. so for example you want to exchange it to other currency you need to pay for fee the day you want  it to transfer to exchange or other wallet. plus  widrawal fee for the  exchange if you want it to widraw direct  to your bank account .

It's advisable and also encouraging to purchase any goods with cryptocurrency both  bitcoin and altcoins because bitcoin is a currency and it can be use to purchase and importation of different kinds of goods if the store or management of a company accepts transactions with cryptocurrency, and the transaction shall processe without delay or disappointment via transactions, from my perspective the correct answer to these question is yes, because bitcoin has as a currency has dominates half of the countries so therefore it's preferable currently to accept or value cryptocurrency more than fiat currency because of its values in society.

Do YOU want to receive bitcoin and other crypto currencies? Or do you want to receive fiat currency but allow users to pay in crypto currencies? If it is the former, then yeah go ahead. I don't think there is any risks involved as long as you set up everything (the wallets, protocol and other stuffs) properly. But make sure each transaction gets enough network confirmation.
If it is the latter, then you can use third party payment gateways. They will accept bitcoin from users and you will receive fiat currency. The fee is reasonable and as far as I know, there is no risks involved and easy to set up.

The more payment methods you add, more clients you get and more products you sell, that's obvious. Regarding bitcoin you should also the transaction fee and how much is the average price of your good, if you are selling cheap products less than 10$ this can't be a good idea because the current transaction fee for bitcoin is ~7$ which is way too much comparing the 10$ for product price. But in the other hand, many people can't use paypal or credit card because of the sanctions or some other reason, but since bitcoin is border-less, you can add this payment method for them and sell more products.

There is only 1 thing I consider as a threat to your online store: The government's regulations. Does your government accept bitcoin? If so, you can easily create new payment gate for bitcoin. Following the law is very important. The police do not like people when they break the laws and avoid paying tax while using cryptocurrencies. So be careful.

I really appreciate what you are doing to support bitcoin. Adding bitcoin to your online store surely raise people awareness of the blockchain technology. Moreover, you never know who are bitcoin enthusiasts until you see them by yourself. And opening online store will help you point out many of them

One more thing I want to add on the conclusion. At the moment, bitcoin blockchain is being congested by a huge number of transactions everyday. Therefore, people have to pay a higher fee so as to move their transaction with the normal speed. If not, the transaction might be stuck for many days. Think about this too because it will affect your business

Yeah, that will be the next thing you should do, there are lots of payment gateways available but I'll naming a few including btcpayserver, blockonomics, coinpayments, and bitpay.

But I'll suggest to use btcpayserver if you want more control of your funds without paying % every sales you get, without kyc, and no more account lockup, though this cost you a bit developing such gateway since your the one who will host it and/or will hire a person to do it for you if don't have knowledge in programming.

While other gateways need 0-3% charge every sale you made, need kyc, and sometimes wait a bit longer til your funds get withdraw. Though you still need to hire a developer to do the work.

In my opinion, it will be better if you have more options in payment methods for your customers. Cryptocurrencies are being more popular every year. We will start using digital currencies and fiat will be history in the future. So, I think it is good that we get ready for the future already now. If you add Bitcoin as a payment method, I believe that it can help you make more money too. Because Bitcoin is the most known cryptocurrency and there are lots of people who would like to use it as a payment method in shopping etc. .

He can accept other crypto like XRP where volatility and tx fee is not much of a prob. Some consumers will be hesitant to use bitcoin because of the relatively expensive fee that they need to pay on top of the price of the goods. But bitcoin is a start, to see if some of his clients will try paying btc. And if they ask for alternatives, then XRP is a good one or maybe doge. Anyway, he can always exchange these 2 alts to a lot of exchanges if he wants to.

I think that finding clients who want to spend bitcoin rather than fiat is already quite the task but expecting to find somebody with xrp on a spending spree is like trying to sell ice cleats to people in the Bahamas.

I'm afraid that my customers may not be much into cryptos, but I guess that it's hard to tell until you try ...

Well, if people who usually buy from you via paypal or cards or whatever your payment methods are right now don't want to use crypto, they will simply not use it, you're not forcing them to do something you're offering another way of payment. I can't envision the scenario where somebody will stop buying from you via a debit card because you offer bitcoin payments. Forcing them to use crypto, that would be a different thing and a really bad idea.

Do YOU want to receive bitcoin and other crypto currencies? Or do you want to receive fiat currency but allow users to pay in crypto currencies?
But you should also consider the transaction fee's and the delay of transaction.

Seriously guys, read what he is writing, he wants that because he wants to get crypto from his sales and not use an exchange to buy coins directly!!!

Why not?

Some people don't even have credit cards or have any access to any kind of banking and they may want to buy your products.

You can't lose anything by implementing it on you site.

If you don't want to keep your crypto you can always cash them out instantly on an exchange if that's what you want.

Ah! Why not? Bitcoin was created for payment purpose as its main aim. Two options, you can either do it because you want to promote bitcoin. Or for the fact that some of your bitcoin-enthusiastic customers may prefer paying in bitcoin.

When we make an initial step in accepting bitcoin into the business, through us few people will get to know about bitcoin. This doesn't mean they'll use it. I believe one in ten people who see the bitcoin acceptance sign will try to know what is bitcoin and all its features. Maybe this can turn the person start using bitcoin as an currency, investment or on other needs. With this it is always good to add bitcoin to the accepted list of payment if your country is neutral or supportive to cryptocurrency usage.

If you understand the risks, then consider it. If you also want to have BTC without buying it on an exchange, then do it.

But if you will tend to do a regular conversion of BTC to fiat, you might experience difficulties in managing your capital as the conversion is not instant. You need an API to execute the conversion right away you received BTC payment so you are quite still safe from volatility.

Adding BTC as payment is good. More payment options, more convenience to customers.

Just try it but you need to have full responsibility if the customers don't know what to do if their transaction got stuck or something. In this case, maybe you should consult with the other online stores that accept bitcoins. I don't mean you talk to them personally but look at what kind of service they used for their bitcoin payment as they are a lot of them right now. you just need to choose wisely, reading some reviews might help as well.

Check this out you might find some information that you need.

It is really depends on the system that you have, if you think that you can handle that kind of volatility then maybe you can accept bitcoin as one of the mode of payment in your online system. There are a lot of stores where they started to accept bitcoin as payment but they eventually removed that in their system because they cannot handle the volatility and their sales are decreasing. Right now the price of the bitcoin is currently in uptrend so there is a high chance that your sales can go up if you will start accepting bitcoin as payment. The regulation of the government is also a factor so consider it for you to accept bitcoin as payment legally. There are now a lot of customers around the internet wherein they want to pay online through the use of bitcoin so for sure that it can also increase the popularity of your store.

It will help the business if there are more payment options. I do think that even if no one takes a look at it, you still need to add it in because you might never know when it will come handy. You will also feel good that you are contributing to the adoption of cryptocurrency in the mainstream market.

With the current transaction fees right now of Bitcoin, instead of adding it you should consider adding other coins like Ethereum or any coins that has a low transaction fee (even ETH has a high tx fee I think).

Maybe Litecoin or Bitcoin Cash or Ripple if you like would do. The more payment methods the better as they say so if you will ask us then possible our answer is yes but it is still your decision if you will integrate crypto payments in your online store.

Cryptocurrencies as a payment option are not a bad thing, because for me as a customer it is always positive to see that someone offers as many payment options as possible. You should also take into account that many people spend their coins just at a time when their price is rising, especially those who, invested at the time of halving (100% profit) or even before.

What is important is to acquaint your potential customers with how payment with cryptocurrencies will work, that is, to explain to them the use of the payment processor that you will use. Some payment processors actually convert crypto to fiat, so you don't have to worry about volatility - you can get exactly the value the customer paid.

Yes, I would say it's the main thing, of course different countries have different regulations, in some countries it's prohibited by law to accept payments other than national currency (even if you pay by credit or debit card the bank convert it into local currency). The same concern will have tax authorities unless you have a clear regulations about crypto. Registration in crypto-friendly country where there are shops accept crypto-currencies might solve this issue I guess.

There is only 1 thing I consider as a threat to your online store: The government's regulations. Does your government accept bitcoin? If so, you can easily create new payment gate for bitcoin. Of course you should have such an option, with more adoption it will be more popular, maybe not only bitcoin but some other cryptos like ETH, XRP, LTC too. I believe there are already some fin-tech companies that offer crypto-fiat gateway solutions.

Having Bitcoin as a payment option is actually a good sign. It means that you are versatile in ways on how you can do your transactions. It can also act like another investment for your business if you can see it that way. Other businesses would also be interested in how can they do what you are doing and learn that there are open opportunities within the Cryptocurrency Industry.

Yes it is a good idea. It will help spread the awareness of bitcoin.

The present risk is the huge transaction charge. It means your customers will have to pay more for products or services except you are going to be the one paying the transaction fees.

Yes there are a lot of people who are always ready to try out new things and experiment with it. Be optimistic.

I think the only risk in accepting crypto as a payment method is the volatility but if you would convert it into Fiat right away then there wouldn't be a problem.
But you should also consider the transaction fee's and the delay of transaction.
I think you shouldn't really worry about it since it is just going to be an option on your online store you could also add more option for them.

This might help to add more option of crypto than only accept bitcoin, also have different other option of payment because not all are familiar or ready to risk buying with bitcoin because of the fee. You can accept bitcoin but always remember the volatility of it.

I echo many others in that I don't see much of a downside accepting bitcoin or cryptocurrencies for your business.  I have found a few businesses around my city that have nothing to do with technology or crypto that accepted bitcoin and they said they actually use it a fair amount.  Worth a shot!

There are many things that you need to consider in some other online stores that have implemented a payment system with bitcoin and altcoin.
is it not a hindrance? when many people flock to visit and want to buy items that are available in your store but do not have bitcoin and altcoin. wouldn't something like that narrow the reach of your customers. In my opinion, payments using bitcoin and altcoin are only alternative payments, the main thing is to keep using cash transactions.
this innovation can be a great option. because not all consumers own or store bitcoins. innovation in building an online store is a very good thing, but it does not reduce the core values which are much more important when transacting

Yes you may accept bitcoin and other altcoin as well, but do not make it only the mode of investment remember not all people already know crypto currencies, it can be a plus having that thing, but also accept other payment such as  PayPal, we pay alipay and so on, better to accept fiat too! I also recommend to add usdt in your priority since the value is stable. consider the transfer fee, it is very huge now, christmas season is coming.

For me, it's a good idea to accept bitcoin payments because you will be giving your customers more options they can choose when paying. However, there will be no assurance that a lot of customers will use it as their payment method unless your business's nature is crypto-related. In an online business, there's now a lot of payment method and your customers probably might not into bitcoin so if you're still doubting, try monitoring your customers if some of them would be willing to use bitcoin payment.

It is better if you accept both bitcoin and fiat currency because not all the customers are using bitcoin. It is really a good thing because those customers will be having an idea how to use bitcoin and they may also get curious that will make them use bitcoin. There are also some risks that will give you a lot of trouble with a different factors and one of the biggest trouble is the mistype of your bitcoin address and it will be a problem for customers that will make them think to buy on the other store. If there are some bitcoin user around your store, they may use it.

That would be a good move for your business, well, as what you have said you business is online so I think it is suitable for you to add cryptocurrency as way of payment, there is no wrong in having many choices, the more way of payment then the better, many people now are well known by cryptocurrency and they are looking for such payment using cryptocurrency but before that, you should consider first your area, is your area familiar with cryptocurrency or not? Then if not better to stay on fiat currency.

not all have a cash ready at all times and not all use the same payment method but some like us do use a crypto . its a big help if a store supports it . its okay if he got less or no costumers that will pay using a crypto because those people may miss it or still thinking about it if they wana try it for the first time .

the expectation will just come in the long run . think about the adoption for crypto , not all times we are going to be like this but people do adopt to a newer trend too .

Other than volatility, you might encounter users that might double spend the transaction, in which a loss in your side if you happen to deliver and he gets the product before the transaction was confirmed.
One solution to this is ofcourse to wait until the transaction was confirmed, then after that you may deliver to your customer.

Well, you'll just adding other mode of payments, not changing your online store's traditional way of payment.
Crypto-users might choose to pay you using crypto because maybe most of them find it much convenient than other methods.

Since you are well aware of Bitcoin volatility then there is no other major risk. But you have to choose the right payment gateway. Because there is risk involved if you use a custodial payment gateway. Most probably it would be better if you use BTCPay server (https://btcpayserver.org/) to accept Bitcoin & other altcoins as well. All the control will be with you if you set your own server. You may also use their third party server as well if you don't have much technical knowledge. It's a self-hosted, open-source cryptocurrency payment processor.

Additionally, you may add a few peer-to-peer bitcoin exchange links on your site. So those aren't familiar with the bitcoin they would learn about it and they could buy bitcoin to make a payment on your site. In this way, you are keeping your role in the Bitcoin adoption.

Yes you can. There are many people in front of us who uses crypto. But you should accept not only BTC but also fiat. The risk of volatility is nothing to me because if you hold it you will surely get some good number of extra money. Despite of higher fee everything is okay to me. Btw, I will suggest you to also accept other popular crypto like LTC,ETH,XRP,XLM etc with Bitcoin.

I think the biggest risk is that Bitcoin fees tend to get very high when there's a lot of price action, and if your customers will happen to try to make purchase with Bitcoin, they will have a very negative experience, which could possibly negatively reflect on your business. Maybe customers, especially those not very familiar with Bitcoin, will think that it's you who charges such high fees. Or they will get their transaction stuck and will get very frustrated. If I owned a store, I'd wait for Lightning Network's mass adoption before adding Bitcoin.

My advice is don't hesitate to accept Bitcoin and altcoins payments on your online shop. What you are doing really helps Bitcoin to be
more recognized and useful in everyday life. Of course, it is a very good idea to realize, maybe the beginning will not really affect
the sales of your online store. But the longer it takes to accept payments with Bitcoin and altcoins that you do become a unique and
interesting side of your online store. That's the positive value of your online store, which your competing store probably doesn't have.
You will never know the results if you don't try them. Regarding the technical side, you can hire people who really understand technical
problems.

If you can and have the means then go for it. You won't lose your customers as you'll still maintain the mainstream payment systems, you'll just add more flexibility to the way they can pay. What might be difficult to setup especially if you don't have anyone close with the technical background to help you do that but if you're really motivated you can find pay someone to help with that.

What would be challenging aside from the technical stand point and price volatility is the local government regulations. You first need to find out if they allow this or not as you don't want to end up wasting time and effort into building the platform and then pay loads in fines.

Yes, you may because bitcoin can be made for a exchange for products, services and other business transactions. Bt if you want security then you should not store your profit as bitcoin instead you could use the fiat currency. Meaning that you will going to accept bitcoin in the process that it will be converted to fiat when it reach to your business as funds. This means that you need to have a platform that can ease these process just like a wallet app here in our place that bitcoin was being use to pay utility bills but it will reach the payment as fiat currency that includes the transaction fee on conversion of bitcoin to fiat on the part of the one who pays with bitcoin.

Why become worried just because there might be few customers that know crypto. You just basically add a payment method and that won't affect your online business as a whole. If no one or only a few persons use the crypto payment to your online store, nothing will change. It's a good idea honestly as your customers will have several payment options.

What you need to worry is about your purpose in adding that payment method. If you paid by crypto, will you hold it or instantly convert it to fiat as long as you received it? And once crypto-payment is accepted, you might need to give the product right away for buyers even the transaction is not confirmed yet but now showing on the block explorer. But shouldn't be a problem since online stores usually ship the item at least a day or two. I just don't know how's your system in your business.

You have to plan for that if you are circulating all of your money in business, like for let's say, every income should be used as a capital.

If you think yourself capable enough to manage online payments, this is the best idea since most of us now are using online platforms for faster and easier transactions. Don't let make yourself behind but instead, have it boost bring to the highest level where most companies, small establishments are open such a thing. But, we should be more careful, hacking is inevitable, just to makes sure that everything is well prepared and funds/wallets are stored securely. And in regards to the technical side, better to ask someone will do a favor or using a known 3rd party services.

That is a good idea to accept bitcoin for payments, but you don't have to force your customer to use bitcoin. Let them choose what they want, but you can give the option to pay using bitcoin at your online store. The risk to add bitcoin as the payment is the volatility. Besides that, the fee will be the next thing that the customer needs to think about before they make a transaction using bitcoin.

I don't know if many online stores will going to use that way, but I think we already see that online store trying to add bitcoin as the payment methods. So you can do the same thing as them. It is no problem if your customers are not from the crypto world, but I am sure that soon you will have many customers who want to pay using bitcoin/crypto or stick to the existing payment methods.

You can try to see the result in a month, and if everything goes well, you can continue to use bitcoin as the payment systems, but if it's not happening as what you expect, you can still use bitcoin to your customer who wants to use bitcoin.

Accepting Bitcoin to your store is simple, you just need to understand that most people will not prefer it if they will just pay for a cheap item. Basically, why would we choose bitcoin if the transaction fee is higher than the amount we are purchasing? Meaning, most people will still consider choosing another cryptocurrency which is lower in transaction fees and faster in confirmation time. This will still not restrict us to use BTC let say we have a store that sells quite expensive items, real estate, a car, or other items where transactions could be considered as "Macro".

I’m afraid yes. If you don’t want risk, then consider adding USDT as a payment option for your online store. It’s because Bitcoin’s volatility is extremely high. Not only that a customer pays for the exact product, but the transaction fee as well. Unless if both you and the retailer are having the same wallet and features that has zero transfer fees, I can say that it’s a good idea. Just saying.

It could be popular among bitcoin users near your shop, and it could increase mass adoption. But I don't think most of them will be using bitcoin as a payment method because some will be holding their bitcoin, especially during the bull run. They will also have problems paying considerable fees to complete the transaction.

You should definitely accept bitcoin as a means of payment. It gives your customer more chance to choose between payment methods. Also, it shows that you are current and not old school (considering that businesses are now joining the train). If you want to do this because you want to promote bitcoin, you may consider giving a discount for those who pay using bitcoin.

Yes Bitcoin should be accepted for payment in online stores as Bitcoin is more in demand than other currencies in the crypto market. Bitcoin for payments completes transactions much faster and is a much more reliable currency. Bitcoin for payments is easy to make a profit if the price goes up because there is no stable currency. If there is a problem with investing in Bitcoin Bitcoin for payments can be easily converted into Fiat currency and used for payment. Bitcoin investing provides a lot of protection and is justifiable in stock.

This is really a good idea, aside from supporting cryptocurrency you may be able to help those people who wants to buy products or some goods because they can pay through bitcoin or some altcoins.
Aside from volatility of the coins, I didn't see any problem or risk about this, but the volatility is way more good to take the risk.

If you have more option in payments then its good, as long as you are not going to lose your earnings in having btc payment method. And as long as you are not violating any government rules then you're okay. I doubt that many will choose to pay with btc but at least you have it as a choice, who knows someone would try to pay using btc if they have it. Fees and volatality is another problem, but there are ways to counter the volatility of this currency.

If you are already aware of its volatility then there is no imposition for you to accept bitcoin in your store, because don't only use bitcoin for a payment system, right?

Even, In fact, it will be a plus for your business because each visitor can choose the means of payment they want, especially if you also sell your product outside in your country I dare they will prefer to use bitcoin.

Moreover, if your country allowed to use bitcoin as a payment system then there will be many customers who will choose it. As bitcoin's user there will be times when he uses bitcoin as a means of payment even though he knows bitcoin can be more profitable if used as a place of investment.

The more payment methods, the better. Although, I don't think that anyone is going to buy with bitcoin currently. You realize that he/she has to pay product's price + ~$7 in order to get the transaction quickly confirmed. If the fee was much lower I would suggest adding it.
Well, it's not like that. The most commonly used payment method is enough in any existing store. But if it's an international store like he has a lot of customers from different countries then he/she consider adding different payment methods to receive money. I honestly like platforms that have different payment platforms, it makes my life easier when buying stuff online but I will not choose a payment method that has higher fees.

There are always risks like what steam does, they remove the bitcoin payment method since the volatility and high fees of cryptocurrency affects their business.

Just make it only a payment option, so that they have still their own will on what kind of payment option they will choose.

Allowing bitcoin for payments is really unique and not that common compared to cash that we traditionally use, so possibly it will help your business to become above the rest.

Bitcoin community is growing nowadays due to pandemic and people are investing to it because they know that digital platforms is so congested. People are getting curious about the bitcoin's existence in the market and making it as a payment option is really a big opportunity and turning point for your business.

I think good ideas if you wanna accept bitcoin as payment for your online store but you have use the same exchange to reduce payment fees, how ever when sending with bitcoin as payment transaction take longer time and need fees about 3$ until 4$ depend with network blockchain, I think you use coinbase because payment will never get any fee and you need costumer to use coinbase too, but you have other option with use altcoin for transaction and looking for which one altcoin have lower fee and you can enjoy with multiple payment for your online store. Many costumer will interested for visiting and buying with your online store by accepting cryptocurrency for payment method.

But still, doing so depends entirely on you. Transactions will become faster but, are you willing to receive payments that will be converted into investments? I mean, if you will convert it to fiat upon receiving, what's the use of using bitcoin right!? So more likely you are eyeing for investment purposes such that its price could go up, meaning, bigger profit but the problem is, what if it suddenly fall down? How will you cater the needs of your business if that's the situation? To those who are planning to start a business to accept cryptos, know your goals.

despite the regulation in your country, you shouldn't be afraid about it. because you add bitcoin as a payment option, not as a primary payment method.
accepting bitcoin/crypto means you open a new opportunity to grab more market, which is bitcoin/crypto users. it's surely a plus point, no doubt.
you might want to try crypto payment gateway like coinpayments. it will convert the price into crypto in real-time.
or you could wait for paypal-crypto integration for merchants.

Your initiative is really worth getting appreciated. If you sell your online store's products through Bitcoins, then it will be a breakthrough step. But there are some problems here. As you have told your topic that Bitcoin's price is the root cause of the price. But there is another problem in addition to the unrest in Bitcoin price. And that is the transaction fee. As long as you exchange the products, you have to pay your transaction fee. And a slow process of transaction of Bitcoin. This is also a big problem. If the transaction fee is less then it would have been easy to take this decision.

It is wrong for a small store to use Bitcoin as a payment for goods, because the commission is too high, and transactions take too long. You need to look for something among alternative cryptocurrencies, because there are a huge number of projects on the cryptocurrency market that are suitable for a small business.

If your traditional customers get curious about it and they found out it's convenient to use then slowly they will adapt to it. It's a win-win situation for you.

The issues of bitcoin acceptance in stores has been boasting and creating more security alerts as many don’t find bitcoin safe enough to use as a means of transactions especially when Its involves shopping at their store but bitcoin is like every other electronic currency and can be used for payment just like your credit card and MasterCards. I know a few number of store that accept bitcoin as payment, have a verified wallet and address them your customers can make payment using your walker and it’s will be deposited in your wallet.

Bitcoin cannot be accepted for payment in online stores bitcoin is not yet supported in all countries so no one will be able to buy directly with bitcoin this is possible through credit or debit cards bitcoin should also be used in online stores by converting bitcoin into fiat currency and making payments. Buying products using bitcoin in online stores will increase the demand for bitcoin and will maintain a lot of security in transactions bitcoin will take a long time to use in the online store

Although it is not supported in your country, bitcoin has a decentralized nature so it is your choice if you will accept it as an online payment in your business. Don't mind the society, if you know that bitcoin is worth it to have and to hold as an asset, then do it. Bitcoin is getting popular nowadays especially that people who are staying at home are getting curious about its existence and benefit. Although bitcoin needs a lot of time to become fully adopted in our society, sooner or later, bitcoin has the potential to become the best cryptocurrency to use in any transaction besides fiat.

It depends on which product or service you are offering ,if you can also purchase items using bitcoin then why not right?
also if you have no limits in capital then Go accept Bitcoin and when the price fell down decide to keep the Bitcoin onhold until it recovers.

But if those mentioned are against your business then better not to consider for a while until adoption happens in your country.
because from then you may be able to buy and sell using you cryptocurrencies without hassles .

if you support cryptocurrency then it doesn't matter if you add payment using cryptocurrency in your online store, and in my opinion there will definitely be people who use cryptocurrency to pay in your online store (although maybe not too much), but at least it will add more payment methods that can be used to shop at your online store, so you don't need to be confused and hesitate to add payments using cryptocurrency in your online store, because it will not make you lose if you add a payment method using cryptocurrency in your online store.

Things will depend on your target market and your product. It's also an advantage if you'll accept payments through other altcoins like Ethereum and other top coins. It will be beneficial for crypto users who wants to purchase their products. It's still for you if you're ready and able to take all the risks.

It's a good feature for your store online. Somebody might want to buy if they see that they can use their bitcoin in your shop. I don't know any risks other than volatility because I haven't tried to add this payment method to my online shop. But I think it's good for your online store to have many payment options for the customers. Who knows, some of the visitors to your shop prefer the crypto-currency as a payment method.

Yes, it is safe as bitcoin payment is irreversible, besides the volatility and confirmation time, nothing to worry about it.
Since many people using bitcoin in the UK, then it's a good idea to add a crypto payment option.
Buyer and seller should understand that both parties have to wait until 1 confirmation received on your wallet, then you proceed buyer's order.

It's good to hear that you are considering bitcoin as payment for your online store. Yet I volatility is your greatest challenge in it aside from the risk you have with your business you might have another one If you allow bitcoin for payment.  I think you have to scale the risk and what you really want.
Try to consider how established is your business, like do you have enough savings for your business when bitcoin price is in crisis?  If nothing,  then better not to involve bitcoin in your business.

Before accepting bitcoin for your online store as currency payment you need to make survey and ask to your costumer are they know with bitcoin and can use bitcoin for payment transaction or not, I think still have some people not understand how to use bitcoin and adopt in your online store how many percent of your costumer know with bitcoin and will use bitcoin as transaction payment, now all bitcoin member will use bitcoin as payment transaction because have higher fee, you need to get research and ask them if you wanna accept bitcoin on your online store. Better with fiat without have paying fee when transaction but you not increase profit if use fiat.

It depends on the aim of your idea what you expect from it accepting the crypto as the means for payments. There are already lots of services where you can use crypto and people use this opportunity in case it is suitable for them, and these services just give such opportunity. But there is always choice to use it or not. And nobody consider it like something unusual or technically problematic. Yes, of course there are risks like volatility, but for those who know about different nuances it is not a problem at all, services just in this case give another alternative variants.

^ That is a very good idea but always remember the volatility nature of bitcoin makes risk valuable assets. If you want to gain more customers that the only option they have is to use their bitcoins for their payment methods then let them be. However, if you will ask how to eliminate the risk? Simply wait until their payment appeared on your end. Then quickly convert it to your currency so it would be affected by the volatility of the currency. Nevertheless, you should know that cons of bitcoin payment, the fees so high, and the transaction bit delayed upon the fees that you are choosing for, these common problems will probably the frequently ask by your clients who used bitcoin.

-Accepting bitcoin in your online store is actually a good idea, users will have a more payment option.

-potentially a risk in your business since most of the time you need to hold your bitcoin, and in a business, you need that money. You could lose profit if you need cash in your business and need your gonna sell your bitcoin.

-Most of the customer is gonna use cash or other payment that is more reliable than bitcoin, and personally, I think bitcoin is better in investment not for buying something.

-Transaction fees and confirmation time could be a big issue.

If you are looking to keep Bitcoins for a long time or want to exchange them by yourself without paying processing fees I suggest you look into direct Bitcoin payment solutions. I'm not sure about the solutions existent in the market, but you should find something that is not too complicated for customers. Otherwise you can integrate a third-party bitcoin payments processor. They will like charge like 1% from every transaction but they save you from the hassle of exchanging BTC to fiat so you can pay your business expenses.

Personally I wouldn't use Bitcoin for payments unless I am in an emergency situation. They are just too scarce and valuable IMO :)

for me it is just an alternative to fiat payment, you can try it for a while to see if customers will make use of the payment method before you will concur if to use it or not. Although bitcoin needs a lot of time to become fully adopted in our society, sooner or later, bitcoin will have the potential to become the best cryptocurrency to use.

It can be added as we don't know if there are customers who are into it. There are popular ways in my country which they print their QR codes and display it in their cashier area. Mostly its a mobile banking or payment apps in our currency but itt will be good too to see if there are bitcoin wallet QR there. By that time customer will ask and it can start them for adoption.

He said about technical doubt, yes it may be about that, he will figure it out because it's not that hard to hire someone or just add a barcode/address by himself for bitcoin payment.
However, he also questioned about risk and safety. We know how crypto payments work, many people have done it on their websites too, even for charity.
There is no risk other than volatility, fees, and confirmation time required for a transaction, so it is safe.

Is this a good idea? Are there any risks (other than the volatility)?

As of now very limited locations around the globe has got access to the usage of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies on daily needs or on different stores. At the beginning you won't be getting big profit out of the same, based on the increasing adoption for bitcoin in the global market there is more chance of long term benefits on accepting bitcoin into online stores.

It's not a good idea to use bitcoin as a payment for online store since a lot of funds will be consumed for the transaction fee. Though you can optimise the transaction fee, but the disadvantage will be the time you'll wait to make the transaction complete. It will be wiser to choose alternative coin such as litecoin or xrp, this will not cost you much and you can be able to receive it instantly. Still bitcoin is a good coin to invest for long term but nit as mode of payment.

This because the bitcoin has no stable value and if it get mixed on business with stable value like fiat currency. Getting profit or ROI will be difficult to determine with bitcoin market so volatile. Besides you could get losses if you do not know how much transaction fee you will get after conversion of bitcoin to fiat currency. It will take some fee that third party service e.g banks and crypto exchanges. However, you can still receive bitcoin and then process it to fiat currency and that is the way how payment or accepting bitcoin should be done.

Other than volatility I think one more issue that you can encounter is double spending if there are still people who does that thing nowadays. You can consider accepting bitcoin but don't go in all of a sudden if you are not confident enough in that decision. One more is some legal stuff, if your place allows the usage of bitcoin as payment because I think you might still need to get some approval from that? correct me if I'm wrong.

I also have some doubts on the technical side.
If you have doubts on the technical side it's better to not adopt bitcoin payment method until you have enlightened them or at least until you have a trustful technician who can work for you on this matter.
Makes no sense to adopt a payment method if you aren't aware of its mechanisms as you won't be able to assist your customers or explain to them how it works properly.

But after you have your doubts answered and understood I think it's great to implement bitcoin on your website. Even if nobody makes a purchase with btc at first point, at least you are promoting crypto currency to your customers niche.

It depends on many factors such as the popularity of crypto in you demographic location, do you ship internationally ?. The average price of the commodity you listed on your online store. I will start with my last point. As you know high transaction fee is the major challenge in using bitcoin, it might be unreasonable for a customer to to order for commodity that the cost of the transaction fee is greater than the price of the commodity. Such customers might opt to buy using fiat. If you reside in country that the use of bitcoin to buy goods and services is very common, then you might give it a shot. If you allow international customers in your store and provide shipping to many part of the world, then it might good addition to your payment processors

Right now there are a lot of people who prefer cashless payment than the traditional payment system, adding bitcoin as payment is good in online store but for sure there will only be few of your customers that will use that kind of payment system. The popular cashless payment nowadays especially in my country is through the use of Paypal, Paymaya and Gcash. Those 3 are so popular and only few merchants here in my country that are ready and able to add bitcoin as one of their payment system. I recommend other businesses to also accept bitcoin as long as you understand how it works and able to handle it even its price are always unstable. But If I'm the customer, I do not think that I will spend it because I prefer to save it than to spend it. If I will buy or spend then I think it is better if I will pay using cash even if it is hassle.

As much as accepting bitcoin for payment of goods in your store is a great idea, I believe you should not be limited to just bitcoin. You should give your customers the freedom to choose from different alternatives. I'd suggest you include some stables altcoins as well.
Secondly, accepting bitcoin for payment depends on how popular bitcoin is in your country. You might be faced with wasting time and resources if only a small percentage of your country's population know about bitcoin and only a tiny percentage of that percentage uses bitcoin.
I'd suggest you do your research well enough before venturing into this.

Its a great idea for me. However, the first thing to be consider is the total adoptions of bitcoins in a certain community or country that you are living. If you think its widely used and more popular in your country, then it would be better. I agree with the one above that said that several payment options would be great. Bitcoins wider and bolder usage is rapidly spreading and I'm sure that your online store could attract more buyers from crypto world, so push that risky yet brilliant idea!

I think it is better for you to know your customers first. Also, if you offer payment into bitcoin or any other crypto currencies, it is possible that your customers would be asking for other available cryptos that you might accept. It would be a great idea since you will be able to tell how much people know what bitcoin and crypto and uses them in your place. It might also attract other people that aren't your normal customers if you do that.

I think it is a risk because of its volatility but hide the changes in the environment where digital currency and any cashless transactions formulated to be the next generation in terms of payment transactions. Now, it was a challenge for us and we need to adopt the coming system earlier as the only way to compete with others and have to provide the demand of the community otherwise, you'll be out of the race. But of course, we don't just jump on it quickly without knowledge for this will be the reason for our failure.

What is certain is that the crypto that is accepted as payment is the main crypto and already has a good reputation such as Bitcoin, ETH, BCH, LTC. customers are only provided with crypto payment options that are readily available and may not ask for payment in other forms of coins. This aims to maintain the risk of voting because the voting of each coin is different and the safest is the main crypto as I have mentioned.

People will start to get interested and try to use crypto payments. this is an example of small adoption in our own environment, but remember that we must comply with the regulations given by the government. Bitcoin payments are only allowed for countries that have legalized bitcoin and provide regulations as payment for goods and services.

The platform that supports making payments using crypto that can be used easily and will be very helpful in business development is https://commerce.coinbase.com/

Yes he need to do some marketing research or feasibility study before he will implement this one, I don't know if I am right but that what we called crowd sourcing, then from that they will need to answer some questions or interview, in that thing you will let know if they are okay with cashless payment such as crypto. IMHO paying with Bitcoin might be risky than other stablecoins around this industry, yes, the price of Bitcoin shoot of recent but that doesn't make it to continue becasue anything can happen that will make the market price dwindle. So, i will encourage OP to start with notable stablecoins before adding the likes of Bitcoin and Ethereum due to their market volatility.

It might also attract other people that aren't your normal customers if you do that.
Should know with costumer background are they bitcoin trader or usually people like shop and do not know with bitcoin, have to check what their background and you have make questionnaire with your costumer how their respond when adopting bitcoin as currency payment in your online store. Costumer respond is most important to know adopt bitcoin or not, when you costumer is not needed with bitcoin I think better you use only fiat for payment transaction, Don't force consumers to keep using bitcoin currency if they are not familiar with bitcoin, it will give your online store a very bad reputation.

If the OP is planning to invest in Bitcoins, then this is a good idea. He can set up a Bitcoin wallet and receive small amounts of BTC as payment to this wallet. Within a few months, hopefully he will be able to accumulate a good number of coins. But in case he is planning to immediately convert the BTC to fiat currency, then I would say that this is a bad idea. The exchange rates are volatile, and a lot of paperwork needs to be done.

I think its a good idea because in my country it is difficult to obtain a paypal account and to purchase online sales with it so its more convenient for me to buy things with bitcoin and other cryptos and there are more countries with the same problem so i am sure you will attract more people.

Leave your clients alone allowed to pick what kind of installment they need to have. It is a smart thought to add bitcoin in your choices obviously you should consider the positive and negative side of it. I will exhortation you to investigate dissects quite well. However, I do realize that bitcoin is a genuine case of deflationary cryptographic money and can be utilized.

I think its better for you to receive a bitcoin payment knowing that it is good also to invest it especially now that it is the season of crypto as of the moment and all of it is in their good condition most especially bitcoin. It is a win-win situation for you if they will pay you in terms of btc.

There won't be any problems as long as you cash out your profits as soon as you get from your customers. Bitcoin and Eth carry the volatility risk but stable coins on the other hand are not completely legal&secure and the US can crack down on them any time.

Don't leave yourself empty handed while running away from the volatility.

These stuff happen when you least expect it just like the exchange hacks.

Yes of course if you want to make something different with other.
But do not forget to keep another payment method in your store.
Because Not everyone uses bitcoin. About risk, everything we do has a risk.
It is not primarily in the condition whether everyone uses the mode of payment or not but rather, the benefit that it will give to your business from doing so. You may encourage other customers to o so, by just giving valid reasons of how will it help both parties. But mind how will it help you. Are you willing to put all of your profit from your business into a risky investment? Everyone probably know what I am pointing out about this "risk". Business needs stability, and that might be enough to tell you that doing so will affect your business. So better make a good plan.

I think before accepting bitcoin for payment you have to consider the number of customers  that is demanding to buy and pay with bitcoin for the quality of goods they are about to buy in your online store. If you are not okay with the number of the customers want to pay with bitcoin and each profit, you
be making from each customer that come to buy if it will profit you at the end of the business.
Bitcoin fees is too high which is making some customers to make use of cryptocurrency than bitcoin because of the high fees involved for any transaction.
Since bitcoin is still rising in the exchange market, show that Imore customers will like to come in population to you store to buy and pay with bitcoin,  if you start accepting bitcoin payment which many customers are looking for were to purchase their goods and pay with bitcoin.

Also depending on the type of store you run. I would make sure that you set the number of confirmations from the network to at least 1. Otherwise you might have problems with double spend again.
That also depends on which coin payments provider you want to work with. They do not accede to every business. More and more people are switching to online payments via bitcoins.
It certainly wouldn't be bad to offer this service.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance

this is a good idea, with this other people can know bitcoin and they will definitely use bitcoin as a means of payment.  On the other hand, Bitcoin also has problems such as transactions that take longer than transactions with fiat money.  it all depends on you, if you want to accept the shortage of bitcoin then accept payment with bitcoin.

You can add more payments as you wish, it will give the buyers or the shoppers more options for their payment. If your items' price are a bit high, then bitcoin payment method isn't a problem at all, even its volatility.

If you are in a country that does not have regulations on crypto currencies,
of course that is a good thing, because in my country crypto currency cannot be used as a means of payment,
only as an investment instrument, but if allowed, it is interesting because can make the public even more familiar with cryptocurrency.

I think it depends in your country or place. If you know that there are many people in your place that are into cryptocurrency then you can try but I think it is too risky as they are volatile. You can try but make sure to study also the flow and prices of cryptocurrency. You can save and sell in the future but make sure you have enough capital to sustain your business. I hope this helps.

In this era of increasingly advanced technology, it would be nice for your online store to add Crypto payments such as BTC, ETH and other Altcoins, but if you want to add Altcoins you should really choose it to add Altcoins in your online payment store. Not only that, you also have to really think about the risks when adding Crypto payments, it's up to you to think about it, but an idea like this is good even if your customers don't like crypto, the important thing is that you have told all your customers that here can pay with crypto, after that it's up to them how to choose it.

You as a seller only need to be prepared with the risk of very large price fluctuations, especially if the funds you receive in Bitcoin are large, you can profit if the price of BTC rises and you can lose if the price of BTC goes down. For the payment method I think it's better to use stable coins to avoid these price fluctuations.

You've already said it — try. There's no harm in trying you know. And there are already other online shops accepting bitcoin as mode of payment. Here in our country, some online shops already did that. Maybe you can, too.

The more options, the better right? And it's also one way of letting people know about bitcoin. It can caught your consumer's interest and might even ask you about it. So it's kinda of a win-win situation. They get to see and buy your products (whether paying with bitcoin or not), and they get to know bitcoin as well in some sort. ;)

And for me in this era i think this is the right time to implement this.

I think bitcoin as payment for online store is good and worth but how respond and where is the costumer from his online store most important to accept bitcoin as payment. Not all costumer know with bitcoin exactly if your online store as fashion because they will little information when using bitcoin or altcoin as payment currency for your online store. Looking with your costumer from businessmen maybe have good chance if adopt bitcoin as payment transaction because they have more knowledge and will be glad if payment process faster than using fiat. Depend how respond your costumer when accepting bitcoin, I have ideas how if you use both payment currency in your online store, not only bitcoin but you should give chance for your costumer not know with bitcoin by accepting fiat as currency payment transaction.

It is good for crypto community even it is a small adoption it can help many people to let it know little by little. 2. The more payment you have the better
3. You should know more better about bitcoin if you think it is risk or not so there's no doubt when your going to accept it or not.
4. If there are not in crypto you should start advertising it by posting or etc that can help for people to be aware that bitcoin payment exist.

of course, problems will always arise, now it remains how you prepare risk management...
accepting payments with cryptocurrency will definitely not always be smooth, apart from the volatility of technical matters such as processing time for transactions or even the internet network or bugs will definitely be problems that will be encountered frequently, but I support you to add Bitcoin and Altcoin payment options to your online shop.

Yah agree that's why cryptocurrency should be an alternative payment only, not the main payment method because if circumstances like loss of connection occur, it might affect the business. The business should accept fiat as the main currency in his shop while cryptocurrency will act as secondary for those who want to spend their bitcoin on the shop. Problems and maintenance are common in business, we're not always smooth sailing in life, that's why you should have your own protocol when you put this kind of method, so you can manage even there's an error.

To begin with, it is a good idea and if truly you want to achieve it, you need to work on it. However, you made a very vital point and that is, not many customers might be into crypto, in this case, I would suggest that if you add it as a payment method, also have a section where you can put up a brief knowledge/Information about Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, so as to enable them have an idea on what it is all about, once that curiosity is there, they will be forced to learn and participate in what you are proposing. Also, just a thought, you can also give a discount for payments made with Bitcoin; we all know people values discounts, I mean one will always be happy to save some bucks, so with the discount gradually people will start getting involved with payment via Bitcoin and once the audience is much, you can gradually remove the discount as well, since you have achieved your aim.

If you apply it, it makes people who have Bitcoin be easier to pay. On the other hand, you contribute to make Bitcoin be real as a payment tool. I think it will be interesting, you start to make people realize that their Bitcoin is very useful now. So, people are aware that Bitcoin is not only for investment or trading, but it also can be used for payment purposes. Bitcoin acceptance into your business/online store is a much needed one, if you're in a country where cryptocurrency usage isn't banned/against the law. Right now more number of online stores providing different services have begun to accept cryptocurrencies. When we take note of the same, these services are availed within few countries. This means the adoption and acceptance level have grown high in those countries.

Everything that has got value can be used as an exchange asset. Here we've got bitcoin carrying value in it, so accepting it doesn't gonna get you into loss. Probably if your countrymen weren't aware of cryptocurrencies then you need to have patience as we're in the early days of cryptocurrency adoption.

This is totally up to you, if you find bitcoin and other altcoin payment convenient for you, then sure, you can go ahead to use it, but they are alot things you need to have in mind, will your customers prefer using cryptocurrency payment over the regular fiat visa or master card payment method, that's the main thing you have to consider first, "cause your customers are the owners of your business" how? Well if they stop patronizing you your online store will surely stop working, so it's always do things with their best interest in mind.
Are there any risks (other than the volatility)?
This is also one the risk of implementing crypto payment method, I think this is main issue that have held back alot of business from accepting crypto payment method, e.g let's just say a customer buy a particular goods when the price of bitcoin was at $16k, then after about an hour, the price of bitcoin dips, that will definitely be a loss for you.

Of course it's a good idea to accept Bitcoin as payment at your online store, because making many payment options on your
online store is a good thing in my opinion. Moreover, customers who do have Bitcoin will be helped to spend their Bitcoin,
and customers who do not have cryptocurrency can still make payments with fiat currency. So nothing is harmed for your customers,
by accepting Bitcoin payments you can make your online store look different from the others, this can be a special attraction.

this will depend on how is the competition in the business you are with.

if the competition is tight then putting a transaction fee is pain in the ass and surely no one will deal with as there are others that can offer lower price.

But if your business is unique and there are only few in that field ?so putting fees and even other fees is fair because they have no choice but to use yours .

Remember that business is not about what we wanted but what our clients wanting.

if your country is supporting Crypto or atleast open about the use of this then you may consider accepting but first you must be knowledgeable about cryptocurrencies and how risky is this.

But if you are stablishing small business then i think forget for a while your plan of having bitcoin in action not unless you can keep the coins when there is a sudden dump and have another capital to run the business.

What do you sell in your store? do most of your customers understand how to use bitcoin? I think you can use bitcoin as a payment method if:
What you are selling is expensive goods (Because if the goods are cheap, of course no one will be interested in buying them using bitcoin because of the high transaction fees)
Most of your customers must understand bitcoin, because if only one or two people use it, I think your profits will be stuck there.

Using Bitcoin in online stores will increase the demand for Bitcoin. If Bitcoin supports Fiat currency in the country where Bitcoin for payments is located then there will be no problem. Bitcoin for payments will not affect the customers. Customers will be able to easily transact with Bitcoin coins like Fiat. Rather, the speed of Bitcoin from Fiat will help a lot in the transactions of the people including the development of the country. Bitcoin is a very lucrative currency in all respects. Good for online stores or investing.

It's a good idea that your customers have multiple payment options, but make sure you know what to do with the Bitcoin you receive from your customers. The more important thing is that for customers to pay with Bitcoin, you must be the one to bear the transaction fee before they intend to pay by credit card :)
Also, the big risk here is how do you use Bitcoin? Be aware that the more you sell Bitcoin and withdraw it for cash, there will be a lot of fees for decentralized fiat transactions. This will affect your net profit a lot.

We are not living in a society where cryptocurrency is widely used to pay the bills. If anyone wants to use cash and anyone wants to use cryptocurrency as cashless then both will be considered for me as a customer and I have to give them my service with utmost priority. If the store owner is me, then I must set using both methods to pay. But I can't assure others thinking in this type of perspective.

Yes, this is how every store owners need to think. The customers convenience needs to be provided with utmost priority. At present we don't have high access to use cryptocurrencies on stores and other transactions. But, the small effort taken to accept bitcoin could help with the widespread of bitcoin usage. Particularly people who prefer earning out of cryptocurrency can consider the earnings through stores for holding, because the more we hold more will be the profiting.

The implementation of Bitcoin as a payment gateway is recommended. You don't aim to get everyone to pay using Bitcoin, but you are creating other options for payment methods for buyers of goods in your online store. So, the existence of cryptocurrency can be used as another payment alternative. If you think that cryptocurrency is feasible, you can also provide other cryptocurrency options such as LTC and XRP. This is intended to reduce transaction fees (Bitcoin transaction fees of around $ 7 - $ 10).

I'm sure buyers will be more than happy if they have a wide choice of payment methods, so that they can match their tastes,

I think you should add cryptocurrency as payment. Many people do not withdraw cryptocurrency to bank cards for many reasons, it is more convenient for them to pay with cryptocurrency. I myself am one of such people and if I see a store that accepts bitcoin, I immediately buy there. Just don't add unpopular altcoins, otherwise you can lose money on volatility.

I think it's a good idea if your country has no regulations that prevent payments with cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin is a global currency and is going through a strong growth cycle, if you have the patience to hold Bitcoin for a few more years, you will become rich because your bitcoins are holding constantly increasing. Treatment.
Don't worry too much about Bitcoin's price volatility as not all customers pay via Bitcoin so consider bitcoin investment in your proceeds.

If it is legal in the country, then definitely should be adding bitcoin as a payment option. In start might not be many would be knowing or interested in it, but with the spread of word and promotion being done as customers will be made aware about it, this will just be an advantage for the long run and obviously some would be there who would like to make payment in bitcoin and will come to store to purchase stuff for it.

Yes, the customer is the king. So they must deserve the utmost priority from the shop. If they want to pay in Bitcoin and the country already legalized it then there has no problem with Bitcoin as a payment gateway to pay for the needs so that both parties can feel better. Small try can change the whole scenario.

You can set up bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as another mode of payment on your online shop, but make sure to know its risks as well. You don’t want to lose everything you worked hard for in just a snap. I guess the main issue in putting btc and alt coins aside from its volatility is its security as well. Make sure you secure your wallet to avoid those phishing schemes and hackers trying to access your wallet. You might also look into consideration the rate for each transactions and the processing time. Many people that have e-wallets are very particular in this matter because using btc in transactions sometimes cost so much and time consuming compared to traditional ones.

Assess your country first before making a move. Is your country strict and has regulations involving cryptocurrencies? Are the citizens using bitcoin? If you think that the answer to the questions are in favor of what you’re planning, then you can continue. You can set up cryptocurrencies as temporary mode of payment  together with fiat currency as your main mode of payment. If many people are frequently using the former, you can make it permanent. Just make sure that you provide other mop as well such as through bank transfers, e-wallets, payment centers, etc because many people aren’t still aware of btc and might plan to order from you. If you won’t set up other digital mode of transactions then you’ll lose some customers and sales.

Yes, I know. In the world, many online stores already implemented their payment system to use Btc or cryptocurrency mainly. It is currently impossible to spread in a bigger place because lack of acceptances. Government should change the outlook against Bitcoin and should become creating friendly environment for Bitcoin to use publicly. Then the demand will be increased and we can pay in Bitcoin for payments easily.

<snip...>

Hmm it depends but I would definitely consider BTCs as a payment if I were to own a business.

The problem, though, would be the transaction fees as this might either make or break this payment method. In addition, the prices of your products would very much fluctuate due to the volatile nature of bitcoin as a decentralized currency. But like what others mentioned, the more you add alternative methods for your business, the better it is in the consumer's perspective.

We are not living in a society where cryptocurrency is widely used to pay the bills. You do have a point. Though other countries may prohibit bitcoin as a payment method, some other countries lax their rules into cryptocurrencies as a whole creating a division among these countries. But a decentralized currency cannot be detected, thus having to purchase via bitcoin in a country which prohibits such may be difficult to trace.

You may accept Bitcoin but let your buyers and customers choose their mode of payment. You have to consider that some buyers don't know how to use or access Bitcoin. Most people would prefer cash or bank transfer. However, accepting Bitcoin payments will also be an advantage because you could also use it as an investment.

Why are you waiting for suggestion ? You should go ahead and add bitcoin as a payment method. Only make sure that you live in a country where bitcoin is not illegal so that government agencies don't disturb you.

Since you are asking in a Bitcoin forum, You will mostly get encouragement to accept crypto payments. Nothing will be bad if you accept crypto payment since your possible customers that will pay bitcoin probably know how it works. I'm sure they are aware of the fees and the confirmation time of their transaction. Having many payment methods will be good for a business and customers since you offer comfort to your customers of what payment method they will use.

To accept payment through cryptocurrency is a really risky for you and for the customers you will be serving. For instance, it is no secret that bitcoin, slong with the other cryptocurrencies in the market have a very high volatility rate. Another would be the high transaction fees that your customer will be forced to pay in order to close out the transaction. So instead of being another gateway to yiur success. It may even become the downfall of your business.

yes you can add bitcoin to your payment option to increase purchases because there are some people who don't want to be traking transactions and feel bitcoin is safer for anonymous transactions
other than that it is easier and the bicoin rate in all countries is the same as USD or EUR whose exchange rate is different for each exchanger

Yes, you can bitcoin as payment method but before it you may run a survey at your website about the seller or interested to buy things paying bitcoin as  payment method.

There are many things that must be considered before really wanting to use bitcoin as an alternative means of payment, such as fluctuating price movements that can cause profits and losses and also the prices at your shop can change, of course this must also be taken into account because you remember some of them. large buyers will also notice it.

You should immediately start accepting bitcoin on your online store, as bitcoin has firmly established its place in the market. The more payment option, the better it will be for your business. I believe the transaction fee will be an issue if you want to buy things with a small amount. But, there are certainly many benefits in using bitcoin as a payment option.

You should be accepting as many different types of payments as you can. Never turn anyone down ever again! Serious business people will use as many currencies as they can. I don't even bother with sites that use a very limited number of payment methods. It looks very unprofessional to me. Add Doge, bitcoin, litecoin, eth. There a few more you could add to that but don't go too crazy. Diversify but don't over diversify.

Put it this way. If I had to choose between your shop and another shop that was almost the same but you had crypto payments I buy from you and keep coming back. People get excited when they see you accept crypto.
Don't worry about volatility. Just hold what you have and forget about that. You can spend your whole life worrying about stocks bonds nad crypto, so don't. If you do not believe in the crypto enough to hold it then don't accept it to begin with.

If I were you, I definitely accept it. Bitcoin is invented to have a P2P transaction. But because people made it as an investment or asset, it turns into passive income. Let us not forget the true essence of bitcoin. And accepting it as a payment for any kind of products and services will help btc community to grow further. Do not doubt in btc becausw it has high fees and volatility since it may help you also to have a fast and reliable transaction. Atleast, there are assurance that your transaction is legitimate because there are online buyers who are bogust. They just send a transaction slip indicating that the money is sent to you but it is not. In blockchaing technology, no one can give you a fraud transaction.

Some of the online and physical shops which had added Bitcoin as a payment option earlier had to remove it, due to the lack of transactions. Even for online stores such as Overstock (which has been accepting BTC for many years), the volume of Bitcoin payments doesn't represent more than 2% of the overall revenues. On top of this, you need to deal with the additional paper work, related to the taxes and regulations. My advice is to test it for 2-3 months initially. If the volumes are not significant, then you can remove it.

Bitcoin is a good currency with reasonable exchange rate so I don’t see any big deal in using bitcoin as a means of transactions in your store. The point is that not every body is interested or have trust using bitcoin so your ability to convince your client about using bitcoin is the issue here. But customers who already know of bitcoin and appreciate the technology will easily subscribe to using it for transactions.

All to do is to have a particular bitcoin address specifically for the business and maybe publish it and paste it at the store, so customers can easily see that these store accepts bitcoin payment. Then to the customers that don’t know or have not used bitcoin on their life before and are interested in the currency, you have the duty of enlightening them about bitcoin and how it works.

The more people have similar ideas , the better off we will all be .
At the moment I don't think there is much I can buy with BTC .
If your store is online ,you should be several jumps ahead of retailers with store front shops in a strip mall. They are paying for the lease ,utilities, and business tax.
You would be under the radar , and with such low overhead, you could afford the fee to process bit coin transactions .
Be sure to let us on here know if you start .

its good that you are opting for crypto as an mode of payment , it certainly not gonna affect your customers cuz they can always pay through the old way fiats.
the more ways of accepting payment he better the business.
I don't think you would go in loss since you can use it as an investment plus not many people would opt to pay via BTC
it would be a good way to gradually make up an investment in BTC and if you wish to make investment in another crypto you can do so.

You can try to add an option of BTC payment apart from other payment options. Volatility is the main concern and no one can deny this and apart from this customer must have internet access on their mobile while paying in BTC. There are very few people using Bitcoin worldwide. But If you have a long-term vision about BTC then you should not worry about accepting in your business but if we see it practically it's quite challenging to accept it.

We just have very few reviews of people who use bitcoin and other cryptocurrency as a means of payment when selling goods and services. We would like to hear their views on the legal, organizational, technical and other aspects of trading using cryptocurrency. Surely additional difficulties will arise here.
Cryptocurrency will not develop fully if it is not widely used as a means of payment.

It all depends on the location or country where bitcoin or other crypto is legal or not, if it is legal everything will be fine and not as difficult as one might think for payment or transaction issues because over time everyone will understand.
And if it's prohibited, you can only make online payments or transactions as long as you know how to use them and what level of security they are.
like in the country where I live and like that, because it is strictly prohibited if bitcoin or other crypto is used as a means of payment and is only allowed as an asset or investment and exchange it for fiat if you want to make a purchase, and if you want to use bitcoin, you have to make online transactions and only for certain people who understand bitcoin.

Indeed, the legality of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general should be your first basis in setting this type of mode of payment.
In business, there are many lawful requirements that you need to abide, and legality is in question then it’s a problem.
And of course, the knowledge of the customers regarding cryptocurrency would be significant as well.

As long as you know that the price can change anytime, so I'd suggest putting the products on fiat currency and make a signage or poster that you accept crypto as payment and that prices may vary because of the volatility, with that being said, I think adding another method of payment is good and as long as you have a good trusty wallet that you use, and that you can easily convert, then I think there's no problem to that, good luck!

If you have more payment methods then definitely more sale will be approached through it.
Whether people gonna use it or not, but still it will make you unique among your competitors.
Moreover out of 100 people there will be one people who will be wanting to pay through BTC and will be happy to see that you will be accepting it.
And tbh there is no risk other than price fluctuations.

Yes, should be clear with clients how you are going to accept crypto so they know that you will be basing in the current market. But wondering if the OP pushed thru his crypto payment in his shop since he created this thread? Because when he posted this topic, the btc price was $14k at that time. And if he managed to implement what he was planning, and had few customers that paid btc, guess, the value right now of that btc is more than double. OP has not posted recently here.

Considering the current value of Bitcoin and the transaction fees, it will be a bad idea to accept Bitcoin for payment
I don't think the value of Bitcoin is a problem, but I agree that transaction fees still the biggest obstacle here. If we can lower the transaction fees, it is okay to accept Bitcoin as a payment tool. However, we also need to consider where the business is located. There are some countries that don't allow it as payment. So, If we make it as a payment tool there, it will be illegal.

what marketplace? is there an option to buy using crypto? because as far as I know marketplace usually uses paypal or credit card as payment. if so and you just add a new option in your description as a custom payment using crypto, I think it doesn't matter because you can adjust the price of the item and the crypto exchange rate so that buyers don't get confused.

The only problem in accepting crypto as a payment for your business is only the volatility other than that I don't see any other problem,
Due to the volatility if you would accept crypto as a payment and only hold it you could lose instead of gaining profit that would affect your business.
And it wouldn't bother much if your customers aren't into crypto they could just continue to pay on whatever they use to pay before you accept crypto.

Just having it an optional payment gateway is good for an online store. Maybe the usage will be quite low by now, things will change with time. Another thing one needs to be prepared with reserve funds, because the market volatility will make the price of different products vary. By the time we should have the right calculation to tackle the business.

But I don't think it's a bad idea adding the payment method.

The more payment methods, the better. Although, I don't think that anyone is going to buy with bitcoin currently. You realize that he/she has to pay product's price + ~$7 in order to get the transaction quickly confirmed. If the fee was much lower I would suggest adding it.
It's on the buyer if they will purchase the item on online with bitcoin because the buyer will automatically provide the gas fee. I don't see any misuse on his/her statement. It can be an investment beside on having already a business.

There is many mobile application that have transaction on the bitcoin because the demand of this cryptocurrency is high and it is good opportunity to have an e wallet on it. Maybe other business such as store would accept bitcoin as an payment instruments or medium of exchanges.

I think you should be careful on that idea. For me it is safer to accept local currency or dollar.  The price of bitcoin is volatile, you may lose your money. I do not think it is a good way of payment. Transaction fee is also a factor that will affect the processing.

Don't do that, the price of bitcoin is not stable which is no assurance of profit. Also, in every transaction their is a fee, the customer did not want to buy stuff with additional charge.

Well, you are now happy because of big pump of bitcoin price but for sure if the price goes down you avoiding the bitcoin.

Much better to use fiat or card payment for the stable price of your business and if you want to hold bitcoin, then buy it in low price and hold until the price become expensive for another profit.

Eventhough there are no guarantees that your customer owns cryptocurrency and use it as a mode of payment. Adding it as one will definitely create an idea that your business is evolving and adjusting to the new environment and trends of the market. This will give you advantage to your competitors.

To give you an example: For traditional business not to use online as a medium too for selling would be one of the conclusions that your business is slowing down. This is for the reason that you need to adjust to the new development. More people tend to spend time in their phones and that will give gou more advantage in advertising your product.

Well, I think that's one of the best decisions you'll make. Accepting bitcoin in your store shows how ready you are to embrace change.
Dealing with the volatility of bitcoin is one problem you'd have to face though. You'd probably lose money with that. But you could also gain more.
It isn't a bad thing to give it a try even if your customers aren't much in bitcoin. I think the best option is to give other alternatives in altcoins Yo help supplement.

I agree with you. Accepting and embracing the many benefits of cryptocurrency now, to be integrated into our daily lives, is actually the mere way for the public to also start acknowledging it. Especially now that the process of exchange, preferably electronically due to the desire to contactless interactions, would be very ideal and efficient amidst the current situation.

Yes you can added to your payment bitcoin it is optional only , it is help to the btcoin community because by doing that you advertise the bitcoin that will gives a chance to grow also the user and investors of this that will result the rise it. Also it is good to your business because for the crypto user who possible to see your store will try it and you will earn profit if they avail your product.
That is right. Bitcoin community will really benefit and be of benefit to your store as well, as I also think that bitcoin enthusiasts would most likely to support your store having an option of cryptocurrency as mode of payment. For sure that once this would be started, many would follow as crypto is now being known to the world. Perhaps there could be progress on crypto adoption then.

It is a good addition to your business, integrating cryptocurrency is the best way. But OP has to watch out for the volatility of the market and it could spell the downfall of a company, the only way is to integrate the transaction that updates per second as that is the minimum change in the prices. Another problem that I can see is that OP's online store integration of cryptocurrency will be a problem.

I have seen some attempts from many Bitcoin enthusiasts lately, to include the lightning network in their websites. I feel that it is finally happening and maybe we will witness a massive adoption of Bitcoin with a network of payments that is scaling even if this is not the Bitcoin blockchain but a network build on top of it. I hope to see anything that could increase adoption of Bitcoin and help increase speeds and lower fees as these are really important to keep Bitcoin at an advantage.

I think it's a good idea bitcoin if you do that just means you are investing your money in bitcoin and for now bitcoin is a good investment because of the supply and demand the price continues to increase over time. But at the same time, it is risky for a business if you don't have the extra capital or your business is not really that big. With the bitcoin volatility and also you cannot use the money that you earn in bitcoin because you need to invest it for the long term for profit and it's the reason why you accept bitcoin in your business. As long as you can sustain your business while accepting bitcoin is all good to do accept bitcoin in your store.

Look at bitrefill as an example: I think that is one of the best payment gateway right now which is also running on Lightning Network payments. If I would be an online store owner I would certainly open crypto payment gateways for my customers. It is like paying online in the 2000's, with wider adoption more shops will implement crypto payments.

Get them into their free will. I guess your idea is just so good that you are open or willing to accept Bitcoin payment into your online store that will enable Bitcoin users to freely use what they have into their accounts upon wanting to purchase in your online store. But still do not certainly focus on the cryptocurrencies as a mode of payment. Just stay on what your online store have been before you are wanting to accept Bitcoin as one of the mode of payment. Let your customers choose their compatibility mode because they can still read upon purchasing the mode of payments available at least they will be aware that you are open for Bitcoin payment acceptance in your online store.

Agree. More payment option is one of the customers want. Either cash, bitcoin, don't remove other payment methods just to give way for bitcoin payment. They can be blend in the first place.

If no one or only a few use bitcoin to pay, just continue to have it as one of the payment methods. It will grow soon.

Even at a lower chance, it contributes to the awareness.

In my opinion, any payment method is welcome for the business, it increases the choice of your customers.

Again, I don't think anyone uses Bitcoin so often to pay, but it's still a plus for your business image and will show that you're open to innovation and alternatives compared to other merchants.

It's true that many people now are using bitcoin but there's more people who doesn't know about bitcoin itself, since it just began to be in the news where its because of the big impact that elon musk invested the profit of tesla into bitcoin , maybe it was a good decision to use bitcoin for payment for those who really are into bitcoin and ofcourse there are big risk into it for being volatile and no one can blame that if the price goes down or up because it was your decision at first to accept bitcoin in his store. Also it can be an eye opener for those people who really doesn't know about it being curious about what bitcoin is and start using / searching for it and become a investors too.

That is a pretty debatable statement, for example, in my country, wet and dry markets are not even connected to electronic payment apps that are used by a lot of people that I know which means that bitcoin transaction will be far lower than that. Remember that if you have a small circle of people then you wouldn't see the whole picture that there isn't a lot of people who knows about bitcoin. The quote above mentioned volatility which means that we need to address that first before integrating it into a local market but in regards to OP's online store, I think that you can always put it there so as to give people an option.

If you have a stable Business and can carry even if there is a drastic change of Value ? then yeah better to accept Bitcoin as option for payment
because this is really appropriate now specially in online extension of business in which very practical to have now.
and also those currencies that is legit and mostly with lower transaction fee because these days Bitcoin has really huge fee
and small payments won't be good in transaction because you will pay more in fee than the amount you are paying,
Unless you are using Lightning Network that will help you minimize the transaction fee with faster and accurate transacting .

Sure, the transaction fees are quite high right now... but my products are selling for about 100-150$ so it may even work.

Regardless of the price, if your product is worth buying. People buy.

This trade should be thought of in terms of value fungibility: if the product isn't delivering equal or greater returns per annum over a 5-10 yr time horizon, it is not worth buying with Bitcoin.

I think many different platforms will start adopting Bitcoin as payment option after this bull run ends. Keeping some amount of bitcoin in your bag is always nice, some people were continuosly buying bitcoinm for years not even looking at price, and most of them turned into very rich people over couple of months. Well most customers won't be able to pay with bitcoin that's true but it will also increase crypto awareness, people may consider "wow that bitcoin thing's logo I saw on internet" and they may start to research more about it. In summary I believe bitcoin trading should be more common in our future.

You are right. if someone wants to implement Bitcoin payment option in his business, he has to go through a lot of regulations (if he want to involve authorities) for small business like a shop I don't think that does matter much. and in some countries bitcoin is fully legal and accepting Bitcoin is very easy and doesn't require any effort. only the high fee of bitcoin transactions can be a problem.

Why are you having doubts about it?
If your country doesn't ban or see it as illegal then there is nothing to worry about except for the volatility of the price.
If your customer doesn't use Bitcoin or crypto then they wouldn't pay with it they would stick to the old payment system that's it.
But it could also be a good thing if you starts to accept crypto you would promote it and your shop could also be talked around or gets promoted because of it since Bitcoin is gaining too much attention now.

Converting bitcoin to cash is not a big deal as there are so many groups of individuals that can convert us easily without too much fees, the problem here is whether our country accepts it or not when many countries are quite friendly but applying is not allowed, consumers also didn't show a preference for the bitcoin payment method when it wasn't as convenient as bank transfer. And don't just think about others, we should think about our interests as online sellers, Bitcoin has no fixed value, how do we update and calculate to not lose money with this volatile value

You should accept the bitcoin as a payment method Since there are numerous bitcoin clients and trying to utilize it someplace.
If you acknowledge it as your payment choice, you'll surely get bunches of customers and traffic on your site.

It's not risky until you commit a few errors like, overlooking your private keys or lost it.
Not just bitcoins you can offer others plenty of coins as well. You should not stress about bitcoin it's unpredictable money and it won't bring your down.

Cryptocurrencies are getting more and more popular, so the idea of incorporating them in everyday life is essential.
There may be some legal problems (if any) when the government does not accept it, as in the case of china.
But we still have to accept the fact that it is still being accepted on a daily basis, and let's try to use them more in life if we can.

it has been posted almost 2 years ago so Im sure either OP  had already did or decide not to .

but this is indeed an advantageous if he made a decision that day.

Title: Re: Should I accept Bitcoin for payments on my online store?

I'm considering to possibly add Bitcoin and other altcoins as a way to pay for goods purchased on my online store.

Is this a good idea? Are there any risks (other than the volatility)?

Is anyone really going to use this?

I'm afraid that my customers may not be much into cryptos, but I guess that it's hard to tell until you try ...
I also have some doubts on the technical side.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance
Many companies adopt crypto to their business today, it is a good sign for crypto. I don't think that there are risks of such way to receive the payment. But you are to set the automatical price recalculation based on Bitcoin's price. What comes to commissions, they are not very high, but it can take long for transaction to be processed by miners
Anyway, you can use two ways of receiving the payment: both in fiat money and in bitcoin so that people who don't work with crypto also can buy in your shop.

Well, satoshis would be the good term to use if somehow many establishments decides to adopt Bitcoin as a mode of payment. I just can't imagine how can they solve the price fluctuations when pricing their goods and services. If the cryptocurrency has a steady price then it is possible that it would be very easy for merchants to price their goods in Bitcoin or any cryptocurrency they wish to use. But right now, volatility I think is a big obstacle in making that happen.

Bitcoin is a digital currency so if you want to include it in your payment method it’s cool. The more payment method the better for your business to expand, its part of capitalizing on crypto to function well in your area of business. Just be ready to educate people about bitcoin and how operate digital wallets. Then also be strong enough to bare the volatility of bitcoin.
You’re a great bitcoin enthusiast and I wish you best of luck in your business.

With the development of the crypto world today, it is better to add payment methods in your online store, because for now people already have many ways to get the goods they want to buy in online stores, if you have designed well using payment methods using bitcoin or altcoins then there is no harm in trying, If it has been running for several months, there must be a development especially for now there are many people who have used crypto wallets so it is very easy to make transactions.
