Title: Anonymous user in Bitcointalk forum?
Post by: Lordhermes on November 18, 2020, 06:51:31 AM
Good morning guys,

Bitcointalk forum is wide and full of unknowing things you haven't seen and heard of before, although I became active this year so I think I don't know everything here.
Recently I opened a thread and I saw a user called Anonymous, an anonymous guest without a profile joining in the discussion, its something outrageous, the thread link here:

I don't really know if this kind of guest is still available on the forum because the link above is the link of an old thread created in 2010, the thread is old enough so oldies will understand and clarify me better.

My questions are:
  • What are the purpose of these anonymous guests on the forum?
  • The profile is not click able, so meaning the guests aren't trustable as I may think, right?
  • I have a feeling that the option to activate to anonymous profile had been terminated, or something, I'm a right?

It was someone who asked for his account to be deleted.

What are the purpose of these anonymous guests on the forum?
A forum can accept guests' replies on topics. I have seen it on other forums too, just for privacy reasons. Bitcointalk has probably removed this feature because of spamming. Although, I think that being Anonymous is different than simply being Guest.

The profile is not click able, so meaning the guests aren't trustable as I may think, right?
It doesn't have to do with trust. They're just guests. What exactly do you want to know about him? He has never registered, he has no rank and you can't know how many posts he has made, because he want to be private.

I have a feeling that the option to activate to anonymous profile had been terminated, or something, I'm a right?
Yes, you can't do that anymore. (thankfully)

<snip>
AFAIK Bitcointalk isn't allowing any guests to post anything here.
They need to create an account before they'll be able to. No exception.
The Anonymous thing is just a deleted account on request.
So the names of those deleted accounts will be turned to "Anonymous" because it was the default setting(I guess) for deleted accounts.

You can find some answers in these threads, better if you read the replies. These threads are available in Meta only, I don't know if there are other boards that explain it in detail but just reading the replies below I guess that will give you the knowledge to your question. And one more input, if there are things that you don't understand you better search for it on the search feature of forum first rather than creating a thread, just my piece of advice.

Now i'm wondering what would happen if we try to merit guest/anonymous user, i should find one quality post made by guest/anonymous user soon.

Huh, I did something just that now, even on all the anonymous guests mentioned above.

See what comes up. Impossible.
