Title: Mining on few MacBooks
Post by: Luckerko973 on January 05, 2021, 03:27:48 PM
Greetings,
Could you recommend me software(not so difficult to use) to mine wider list of cryptocurencies for macbooks with big sur(11.1.). I do understand macs are not ideal to this, but I own 6 of em, and i neet find some use for them(out of sale of course).

Thank you.

You can't meaningfully mine bitcoin with your MacBook.

Sell them and buy bitcoin... This is the "best" way you can get some with those macbooks

Unfortunately the GPUs in most MacBooks aren't powerful enough to mine. Sell your extra Macbooks and buy a GPU for a PC.

Even with a powerful gpu it is still not viable to mine bitcoin.

Bitcoin today is only mined with sha-256 asic gear.

Mining with your gpu in Nicehash or mining altcoins and then trading it to btc IS NOT bitcoin mining!!

Using your time playing with some laptops for mining is no use, use your time more wisely!

The information you drop is too limited, every macbooks have CPU I guess and if the CPU are of high end they can still mine RandomX Algorithm or other CPU base algorithm coins, right now the best CPU minable altcoin is Monero, please drop information about your CPUs here

You can't mine bitcoin with macbook, was possible in 2010 but not in 2021 atleast, even the GPUs in macbook are low end gpu, what I'm interested in is the CPU of these macbook, are they Xeon CPU or what? That might be efficient enough for XMR and YescriptR16

The heat from cpu mining will be a major problem for the macbook.  Portable package means more thermal constraints.  Notebook mining is one step above mobile phone mining...both are terrible ideas.

I guess you are confusing macbook with macintosh OS desktop computers, macbook are notebooks and laptops, they can't handle mining heat, they will eventually get problem and the hardware may condemn in the process, it's better to sell the macbook and buy bitcoin or top altcoins

You can tell when bitcoin is going crazy when we got people here who want to see how its possible to mine bitcoins with their macbooks. I remember we kept getting a thread like this or two every few days back in late 2017 and early 2018 in the mining section. So it seems the top might be near for BTC.

Either way. You can't mine BTC or anything with your macbook. Even if you had a Mac you couldn't mine anything unless you put in a GPU inside it. However Macs can have max like 2 GPUs at once and basically are a horrible solution for mining.

Just buy a PC and add 2 GPUs and see if mining is something you want to do. It might not be for you. If it is then there are tons of resources on here and youtube how you can build a 6 GPU rig.

Nowhere did the OP say he wanted to mine Bitcoin specifically. He was asking for software that could mine a variety of cryptocurrencies. But just in case, we have now established that you can't mine Bitcoin on a Macbook.

Used Macbooks can still be sold for a good price. I think this is a better option than trying to mine altcoins. They do make software like HoneyMiner which can run on MacOS but you will only earn a few cents each month. The hardware is just not powerful enough to make a decent income from this.
