Title: Gemini Earn program
Post by: RVDowning on February 05, 2021, 11:56:04 PM
Has anybody used the Gemini Earn program? I just created an account and sent some bch there as a test, to try the Earn program to see if it works. However I cannot get any tab to appear to allow me to launch anything related to that program. ???

This is likely investment with the risk they use it for lending and honestly never heard of them before.

I tried to research here on the forum but only one user mentioned this I suggest you read the post below.

Thanks for the link. I had read the Gemini advertising info, but hadn't been able to find any independent assessments of the program. It is scary that the funds are not protected.

Their earn program isn't that different from other exchange offers like the following;

  • https://crypto.com/en/earn.html
  • https://www.binance.com/en/earn#flex-item
  • https://trustwallet.com/earn/
  • https://www.okex.com/earn

They have a difference in the cryptos that they allow to be in the earning program. You basically keep your crypto on their exchange and you allow them to use it for lending and other options that they may use the fund. But remember, you don't keys if it's in the exchange's earn program.

Not a fan of gemini and I don't know how safe this exchange really is, why don't you go on binance exchange? They have different type of earning programs, this is the only exchange that I trust and they have collateral funds too incase anything bad happens

I haven't heard of this program so cannot say if its legit or not. However there are better earning opportunity at binance . You can find a lot of earning ways at https://www.binance.com/en/earn  where you will find Flexible Terms earning, Fixed Terms earning and also High-Risk Products. I think those are safe investments and you should give it a try.
By the way did you try to cash out the bch which you send at Gemini ?

No, I gave up with Gemini.  I had only a little bch from a fork years ago which I was just going to use as a test.  I ended up converting it to bitcoin and sending it back to Coinbase.  Binance isn't available in the US.

Gemini itself is well known, but without some more details on the collateral that they require and their risk management it is a hard no.  I've been trying for the last 3 weeks to find more hard information, without much luck.  Lots of marketing, not a lot of facts.  It is like Celsius' and BlockFi's programs, except so far I have found that BlockFi has more collateral required.

If there was something like BlockFi or Gemini Earn, even if the rate was 2% vs 3% or whatever, that insured your investment with a reputable third party insurance, it would be something to consider.

The question is for their rates, is it worth risking your BTC when they are not insured, you don't know about their underwriting and you are not holding the keys?
