Title: That extra two pin slot on 8pin GPUs
Post by: Squezzi55 on February 10, 2021, 08:08:58 AM
Guys I think the extra ground wire for GPUs with 8pin is same as the main ground wire in 6pin, I get closer to my power supply currently mining with Zotac gtx1660 super and I noticed that the extra two pin cable is from the ground of the 6pin cable itself

Look the image very well, the extra two pins are wired to the ground wire in the 6pin so why the heck are some saying you can't do this yourself?

Probably because output at 6-pin connector is made for 75W, and output at 8-pin conenctor is made for 150W, no matter how
wiring is done

Don't outsmart yourself, 6pin plug has lesser watts draw compared to 8pin, you are simply doing it wrong if you are juts judging base on the wiring, don't go connecting a extra two pin to a 6pin pci wire, you can damage something

The question you need to ask yourself is if 6-pin connector can deliver 150W, I believe that's the work of a 8-pin connector, forget the fact that the extra two pin are just ground wires, what watts that wire is pulling is all that matters

Hmm so pcie 6pin only have a spider sense haha and the 8pin has two spider sense, thanks for sharing this mate very informative, I hope OP learn from this and don't try something stupid that can probably start a fire, let's respect how these things are built to be on safer side

Wait are you thinking about adding extra two pin on a 6pin connector ?? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 You are kidding right? You think the manufacturers are stupid and they don't know what they are doing? That extra two pins isn't for show and just just ground wire, don't burn down your house friend

It seems you know more about mining equipments, see I have a 6pin to 8pin cable and it works like every other 8pin connectors from powers supply, I don't know why many are saying the connector can start fire or some thing, here is what I used and it works fine

Some old or cheap PSUs cheat and use 6 wire cables to make 6+2 connectors.
It doesn't increase power, it just provides electrical compatibility for the connector.

Some people like to live on the edge, others like to be comfortable. fact that graphic card COULD draw 150W through 6-pin connector doesn't mean it will...but why test it?

You can get away with 6pin to 8pin connector is the card you are powering isn't using huge amount of watt, could work with those GPUs that draws only 80watts of power like gtx1660super and the To version
