Title: Using 8pin to dual 8/6pin to power 3070
Post by: mantonio333 on February 18, 2021, 10:22:56 PM
Is it safe to use an 8pin to dual 8/6pin to power 3070?

The 3070 takes in two 8 pin connectors....wondering if it's safe to use 8/6pin since I'm setting the 3070 to 130w using HiveOS Linux.

My PSU is 850w EVGA.

You should be fine mate I am using a power supply with mine RTX 3070 over here and the power supply has just one connector with 6-pin and 8-pin plug maybe I should try to share a image of what I'm talking about maybe it's related to what you are telling us right now

Is that it? If YES it works fine

If you are setting it to use 130w then it should be fine as the 8pin is rated at 150w. Just keep an eye on it though.

Yes it will work, I am currently using an extension power connector with 6 and 8 pin plug and it works very well for me with no issue if it's not going to work I'm sure they the manufacturers won't build the cable in the first place

my 3070 set to 120 they really pull about 137 the extension will be fine with those watts.

Is the wire with the green arrow a 6 pin? Not quite clear from the picture. But if it is then yes that's what I'm trying to do!

Just to be clear this is what I'm talking about.

8 Pin to PSU then 8 Pin to and 6 pin to GPU

Or is it better if I get this adapter?

I use this extension in the picture presently and it's working fine, there are few others that are bit different from this but they will work to, there is nothing to worry about here mate, measure your wattage and watch your temp always, happy mining

Thanks. Decided to get one of these rather than using the 6-pin. Better be extra cautious even with underclocking.
