Title: Copper membership payment
Post by: MeBender on February 26, 2021, 06:54:21 PM
Hi guys,

I'm trying to buy copper membership so I can add images to an announcement thread for a new coin I'm making, I'm trying to use the pay by grin option but it seems grin has moved on from sending by file or something? the command recommended on the payment page is deprecated, and it won't accept slate code either?

Any idea what I can do?

The copper membership is supposed to be like $20 and if I pay in bitcoin then the fee will be 3 times as much :o

Thanks in advance

Just tried sending by non-encrypted slate, but when I submit it on the payment page it just says invalid transaction

You have received 1 merit from @LFC_Bitcoin, which got you ranked up to Jr. Member. He made things easier for you.

You should now be able to post images minus buying the Copper membership  ;)

If you don't know to customize your images, please spend a few minutes to read following guides:

  • [Guideline on posting images (with size adjustments), hyperlinks (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3974517.0)
  • The best website to upload images and get best display on the forum is https://imgur.com/. Some other websites cause broken image links sometimes
  • Some websites to upload images (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5213245.0)
  • Improved images on the forum - Tampermonkey/Greasemonkey user script (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3033227.0)

You can customize images with either width or height option or combine them both. The customization can help you to make better posts (same sizes for images -- When you have some images with different initial sizes, you must use same width or height option to display them with same sizes here) or to avoid annoyance on viewers if you leave too large images in your posts.

I'm not sure if your problem has anything to do with the network upgrade that happened in January this year - are you sure you have a compatible wallet?

The fourth network upgrade is expected to happen in mid-January 2021. Compatible versions of grin node and grin-wallet will be versioned 5.0.0 or greater. grin-miner will be unaffected. The first releases of these are scheduled for December.

The copper membership is supposed to be like $20 and if I pay in bitcoin then the fee will be 3 times as much

Not really, at the moment you can send a standard transaction for only about $3 (https://privacypros.io/tools/bitcoin-fee-estimator/) and get a confirmation in the next block - or pay half less for a confirmation in the next 6 blocks. You are probably relying on your wallet which always shows you the highest possible fee, or simply has a bad algorithm that calculates the fee based on the current state of mempool.

But anyone found the solution to the actual issue?

I tried to install grin wallet last night after I saw this thread but I am unable to execute the .exe file, it just did nothing when I executed. I did some research about broadcasting the transaction with file but it still existing on the blogs and no info about the transaction using file replaced. Basically Grin transaction can be broadcaseted in two way one method using file and another one is by HTTP listener.

You should probably post this in grin is now accepted for forum payments (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5098450.0).
