Title: How are 4gb cards still able to pull 24-27mhs from mining ETH today?

Is zombie mode that powerful? is there another mode out there that takes care of the DAG sitatuon?

I won't consider zombie mode in lolminer as powerful, to me its like cheating the system anyways it does work for now but won't last for long I believe, all thanks to lolminer devs 4gb owners are still able to make some bucks out of their obsolete GPUs it's nothing to right home about

They are only able to do it with lolMiner... with his Zombie Mode in Mobo it can take some extra Mhs :-)

Super Zombie Mode requires lolminer and 4gb gpu.  You can run 1 or 2 (a few very large cpus can run 3 or more) 4gb gpus at nearly full speed.  You must put the card physically in the long slots.  1st gpu in slot 0 closest the cpu.  The second if your board support into another full slot,  The trick works by using the pcie lanes to supplement the vram on gpu with a little bit of system ram.  You need x16 pcie lanes to get full speed with x8 providing about 50% of the SZM vs ZM.  So a 570 about 26+mhs, 560 14.5mhs....at SZM.

So if you had say a 3 card riig (580-8 / 570-4 / 560-4)..and it has 2 long slots...and you have 24 pcie lanes becuase of the cpu you are running you would put 570-4 in slot 0 / 560-4 in slot 1 / 580-8 on riser to x1 slot...and could see 26/14/30mhs = 70mhs.

Which beats the hell out of doing all x1 risers and only seeing 48mhs for all 3 cards (4gb cards would be in zm but not szm)

It will end but looks to be some weeks/months away.  Eventually the dag will grow to a point were there is no speed advantage to using system ram.  The pcie lanes are not quite fast enough to equal the speed of vram...if it was it would continue to work.  Its all about moving bits fast.

You dont have to set options in command line.  It will detect and tune all cards automatically.  Just set algo to eth.

I know it works on linux as all my rigs are on some version of linux.  Try it on windows and see.  Will need to see if you can use igpu and no display hooked to gpu in long slot.  Just trying to keep windows from using any or minimal memory on the gpu.    Post results if you do.

This is only possible if you already have a motherboard that has several PCI-e x16 connectors. However, buying a dedicated motherboard is not good because the price of a motherboard with 7 PCI-e x16 connectors is over 400 euros. Also the processor must support a lot of PCI-e lines, e.g. i7 or i9 with 40 PCI-e lines (e.g. socket 2066 etc.). You know that the processor for that socket is extremely expensive. However, even then you will not achieve full speed on all graphics cards but only for two and a half speeds for the third (2 x 16 + 1 x 8 = 40 PCI lines).

maybe the hashrate is a bit lower in lolminer's zombie mode but it still a great solution to be able to go on, continue mining for all those who do not want or cannot change their video cards

Or just mine RVN without all that hassle

There is a problem. If there are 6 video cards on the farm, then only 1 or 2 will give a hash rate above 20 megahash, and the other 4 will mine at 8 megahash.
It is possible to configure 2 miners in Hive OS and select 2 video cards for mining Ethereum  and 4 for mining RVN, but I have not tried it

Gigabyte LGA1155 G1.Sniper3
https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/G1Sniper-3-rev-10#ov
PCI Express 3.0  x8x8x8x8
https://www.overclockers.ua/motherboard/intel-z77-gigabyte-g1-sniper-3/all/
4 video cards will give 100 megahash, if you have such a motherboard, but I do not have such motherboards. I use cheaper mobo.

Yes this is correct, even if there was a motherboard which had 6x of the x16 connectors, it would not have enough lanes which is a limiting factor of the motherboard chipset and CPU.

This is why if you got 1 GPU and plug it into the x16 slot, it uses 16 lanes. However if you got 2 GPUs, then both of them run at 8 lanes each. The first GPU downgrades into 8x. Most people don't realise that just because its a different slot doesn't mean the lanes are indepedant. The lanes are shared between the slots.

I realised this when I would fill up an entire motherboard full of GPUs and one of them wouldn't work. Upon investigation it turns out that the lanes are shared and most of the x1 are disabled if others are filled. Hence why you should always read the instruction manual which has a diagram for all the available lanes.

https://www.reddit.com/r/gpumining/comments/lwh3un/4gb_fury_radeon_pro_duo_25mhs_per_cardmore_if_i/

I played with this myself and did some fun stuff.

The Radeon Pro Duo, which is 2x Fury 4GB card in one with a X99 Board and 6850X(lots of PCI-E lanes). It's possible to have these Dual GPUs still do 25-27mh/s on ETH. Each GPU gest x8 PCI-E lane and only using 1x PCI-E x16 lane.

Theorically using Zombie Mode, X99 board with PLCX chip(lots of PCI-E lanes) and Dual GPU, I can make a rig of 5 RadeonPro Duos and have a 10-gpu 4GB rig at near full ETH speeds.

Yes eth for the 4gb cards direct in board (1 or 2) then the ones on risers go on rvn or whatever else is best.
For dual mining or triple mining or even quad mining i run mmpos (mmpos.eu)
For some dual mining i run ethos (which is very old but still works well on older cards
For two rigs they are just ubuntu current version.  Dual mining is as easy as using the screen command to have several screen to run from.  Google screen command in linux for syntax and usage.

I use the -devices= option in lolminer and teamredminer to select the cards for each miner regardless of linux version used.

Using the ctrl-a+d keystrokes you can switch back to main screen and the sub screen keeps running.  Use screen -list to see all sub screens...and screen -r miner0 or screen -r miner1 to go from main screen to miner0 or miner1....where miner0 = the screen - list # or name.

obviously it is better to use fewer cards but at full capacity than all the cards with less yield, i have to try this type of mining the 2 most performing 4g cards on eth and the others on rvn, maybe this way the earnings go up

Yes give it a few minutes and watch the screen will do a base line tune 4 parts then tune each gpu then fine tune.  Hash will go up and down and when it complete tuning to will pick the most efficient.

Make sure card is in the slot (not on riser) for max effect.  Should end up 25+mhs.

I’ve got 25+ on h110 and 22+ on socket 775

What a cheap good cheap mobo that you suggest?

Did you test rx560 too? Are they worth it?

Ps: I love mmpos so far, it’s very light and good os. I’m running it live from usb without any problems. I’ll soon switch to it

Ive tested using RX560 4gb = 13.60mhs  (corrected as it finished tuning)
Ive tested using RX550 4gb = 11.21mhs

Thats the smallest/olderst RX cards i still have.
