Title: Unconfirmed Parent On Transaction
Post by: Ctotoro on April 19, 2021, 03:56:57 PM
Hi there,

Just when I thought I was getting someways into fully understanding this wallet it throws a curveball at me. I bought some bitcoins and had them send to me but for the first time ever the transaction states Unconfirmed Parent which I have never seen and don't understand. I bought the bitcoins from https://bt.cx/sv/ and I have never had any issues like this and they also set the fees so I dont understand how they can be unconfirmed.

Please help me out and let me know what has happened? Should Child Pays for Parent? Should I wait? I have it set to only spend confirmed bit coins.

Here is the transaction ID: 1f9e79a8dda7e084aa15e9bf31f244675a8d468e172c50ff0b6cdfb8c18a4d38.

Thank you in advance

Ctotoro

Any subsequent transactions spending from that or a derivative of that will not be confirmed until all of the transactions in that chain has confirmed.

IMO, it is not worth to create a CPFP for this; you'll be paying for 4 transactions worth of fees. Since it is sent from the service, the responsibility of the fees lies on them and not you. 102 sat/vbyte is decent, just that it has spiked recently. It shouldn't take too long to confirm.

It's waiting for a transaction that funds their address (likely from themselves) to be confirmed.

You'll have to wait for all the previous transactions to confirm.

If they're trusted by you, you might want to email and ask if they'll enable rbf on their transactions for if a problem like this arises again (it isn't enabled at the moment)..

I agree, 102 sat/vbyte is a high rate and will confirm in a few hours.

It is now 15 blocks away from the top (about 14.5mb), according to this  (https://blockstream.info/tx/ff0aa1657b95ac30a82dcc14b1ef384cf2fe35eb24dc1d50e911e997351edd6d?output:29)and this (https://bitcoindata.science/plot-your-transaction-in-mempool.html).

As more transactions are always coming, in a few hours or at the most one day it should get a confirmation. The fee is pretty high and there is nothing the OP could or should do.

Ctotoro, your coins are safe. Unless you need the money immediately, you shouldn't do anything.
