Title: Are there any MAURITIAN here? Bitcoin still not popular in Mauritius
Post by: Vyasports on June 11, 2021, 12:42:14 PM
I have a few questions specifically for my Mauritian brothers (if any):

Do you get into trouble with MCB or SBM banks for crypto transactions?
Are you able to withdraw money from Blockchain.com to your bank account?

(you can add your own questions)

I mean, it doesn't help that Mauritius is a lot smaller than I expected..

If you want to ask people specifically from your nation, your best bet is probably to ask the r/mauritius subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/mauritius/

Maybe you can contact this person: @sardasa (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1814832.msg18078551#msg18078551), I saw him talking about:
Are you able to withdraw money from Blockchain.com to your bank account?

Who knows he can explain about the OP's question.
Just try contacting @Sardasa or some other members in that discussion.

Thanks to those who replied.
I have a question in general; has anybody tried Blockchain.com wallet/exchange Bitcoin directly to bookmakers (sports betting sites) ?

I can't speak for Blockchain.com's exchange, but you shouldn't have any problem sending back and forth between Blockchain.com's wallet to betting sites.

Personally, I'd rather use BlueWallet than Blockchain.com though. And a hardware wallet if you own a good amount of BTC(just fyi).

Thanks mk4, I was wondering any reason in particular why BlueWallet would be better than Blockchain.com in regards to betting sites?

I don’t think he meant anything explicit in the context of sports betting or gambling, but that it’s much better to have complete control of your private keys in a non-custodial wallet - than to have confidence in online crypto wallets. It is true that blockchain.com allows backup (seed words), but there is always a danger that someone will hack your online wallet - most often if you click on the phishing link and in that way expose your login information.

However, it should be noted that some online wallets or crypto exchanges have a ban on transactions with gambling/betting sites - so it is always better to use a desktop/mobile custodial wallet.

Not necessarily a better wallet for betting sites, but as a wallet in general. Blockchain.com's wallet is hosted online and it ain't open source, hence more surface area for you to lose access to your wallet one way or another. BlueWallet is simply just better all around.

Thanks I never knew about these stuffs! I went straight to google after reading your post.  :)

Probably read this: https://cryptosec.info/wallets

I read it and it makes perfect sense now!
After i downloaded the bluewallet app, and started it; for some reason it freezes then after restarting it works fine.  :-X

:-[ I have another question...if anyone can answer me whether it is best to buy Bitcoin via mastercard or bank wire?

The answer to this question is really going to depend on the person. People are going to have different opinions on which one is "best".

Looks like there's a good number of traders from Mauritius on Paxful though. Probably check it out: https://paxful.com/buy/bitcoin/mauritius

^ Do your own research before diving in.

I don't think that there's a lot of people here that are from Mauritius but you OP are a good start because you will be one of the many first that will be adopting bitcoin in your country and you have the ability to spread the word like an apostle or a missionary, don't fret about not being famous in your country, I am pretty sure that your country will get there some day, it's a small country and news will definitely spread fast there.

While researching on your questions I stumbled upon this;

Quote
Mauritius has Bitcoin-friendly legislation, welcoming Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies within its borders. Unfortunately, the island nation only has a few exchanges for its citizens to use. Coinmama and eToro are two popular options in the country, and are available to nearly every nation in the world.

I also came across this link that compiles all the available cryptocurrencies groups for people in Mauritius with a common goal which is "Blockchain/Cryptocurrencies adoption". https://www.meetup.com/topics/cryptocurrency/mu/

You can guide your path with this little information and you could even set up a media in your  country and be one of the earliest adopters of this technology in your country and build this niche for yourself.

Update:

So...as it turns out... there are apparently no Crypto exchange websites where Mauritians can buy/sell...
A few websites remain in the list that can potentially accept users from Mauritius; coinmama & cex.io
I'm gonna try them and post an update.

Any info most welcome, thanks y'all!

I looked around and in addition to mk4's [Paxful (https://paxful.com/buy/bitcoin/mauritius)] and dataispower's [LocalBitcoins (https://localbitcoins.com/country/MU) - taken from the provided link] posts and also those you've posted, I found a few more:
- I didn't mention eToro because it's no longer an option [link (https://www.etoro.com/customer-service/help/66648556/is-etoro-blocked-in-my-country/)].

  • Binance (https://www.binance.com/)
    - Found "Mauritius" on the "Supported SMS countries (https://www.binance.com/en/support/faq/115003783991)" list.
  • Okcoin (https://www.okcoin.com/)
    - Supported countries (https://www.okcoin.com/us/countries-supported.html)
  • Kraken (https://www.kraken.com/)
    - Found "Mauritius" on the list of countries that can use "Visa and MasterCard (https://support.kraken.com/hc/en-us/articles/360048212832-Visa-and-MasterCard-purchases)".

Take note: DYOR prior to using any of the above platforms.
