Title: Bitcoins in the form of banknotes?
Post by: doblezero on July 18, 2021, 09:49:54 PM
Hello colleagues, today I discovered Icynote is of Swiss origin and is presented as the "first physical bitcoin banknote". I just bought 1. I do not know if you knew it, I wanted to share it as a member of the community. Regards

I am not sure when Icynote started operating - I have never heard of them but that doesn't mean that others have not.

But there are quite a few companies that have for years made notes for bitcoin, Bitcoin Suisse and PolymerBit are the first two that come to mind. I have others as well.

the cost of shipping one note is the equivalent of a second note.  Anyone thinking might be good idea to do a group buy? the next qty is 100 notes for 700 CHF or 7 CHF ea (2 CHF cheaper than the single purchase) with shipping price is 749 CHF or 814.78 USD equal to 8.15 USD ea. We could ship direct to minerjones and let him distribute with other orders/shipments.

or if we were to order 25, it would be 274 CHF or 10.96 CHF ea - equal to 298.06 USD or 11.84 ea shipped.

Either way, it might be better than a handful of us ordering 1 or 2 or a handful and then each paying the hefty shipping fee.

did you receive yours or get tracking at least?

working on a group buy but was curious if anyone had received theirs yet - if they had already ordered.

i'm very curious , in shipping option there is pickup option named "Pickup in Geneva" city in Switzerland where i lived, maybe if you want i can try to get one by taking the pickup option before you pay your group buy, but i think it's a trusted company there is a link to they registration as a SARL(company) in Swiss confederation database website -> https://www.zefix.ch/fr/search/entity/list/firm/1404339?name=SMD%20Security%20Printing%20S%C3%A0rl&searchType=exact (https://www.zefix.ch/fr/search/entity/list/firm/1404339?name=SMD%20Security%20Printing%20S%C3%A0rl&searchType=exact)

I know it was a swiss company but not based here exactly, maybe they put they company seat in the Canton of Vaud to pay less taxes  ;D

A group buy is a great idea especially when shipping costs as much as a single bill itself. I'm interested in a few of these banknotes to share them as gifts.

I've checked the site today, but I can't see how the banknotes look up close (other than the thumbnails shown when placing an order). If anyone like to share a close up pic (hiding sensitive info, of course), I'd be grateful.  :)

In my case, nothing happens that the public key is seen because it is a sample, haha and I have not loaded bitcoins yet, so you will not know my savings (?) hahaha

I can vouch that they are legit having received nearly 50 notes for an group buy order.

Thanks guys. The banknotes look well made, similar to the ones from Polymerbit. I wouldn't load these with large amounts of Bitcoin just to be safe. They're more suitable for giving to others as gifts. Now that I know they're legitimate, I'm going to place an order for a few notes.  :)

These look very interesting. The nice thing about the Polymerbit items is they have a
limited run making them collectible.

I'm not sure about the Icybit notes though in this regard. They are very well priced at less than $10 each.
