Title: Gambling Book/Website Suggestions ?
Post by: ChiBitCTy on September 14, 2021, 03:08:59 PM
My father loved to gamble, and was a big Blackjack player.  He was an incredibly smart guy, and always did his homework before ever doing anything at all.  That was no different when it came to gambling.  I remember seeing him read several Blackjack books, which was his favorite game to play.  Do you guys own any good gambling books or know of any website where you can learn skills to play certain games like Blackjack, Poker etc?

I don't know much about books or sites that have Blackjack as specifics but I think that YouTube can be a useful site for you because you can just type in the video that you want to watch and see the results, I feel like this is an absurd answer though but even if YouTube is a deplorable website, there's always a good space that you can use. My recommendation would probably be about Card Counting.

I don't have too many references to reading about gambling books, especially blackjack, but there are some that I found, such as Knock-Out Blackjack: The Easiest Card-Counting System Ever Devised (Gambling Theories Methods) which is a book by Olaf Vancura and Ken Fuchs. but I would suggest you to visit the book gallery where I think your beloved father can learn.
You can easily download it as a FILE (https://id.id1lib.org/book/1253562/d01bc3).

I think the basic strats for starting is enough, like this:
https://www.blackjackapprenticeship.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/mini-blackjack-strategy-chart.png

I'm not a blackjack user, but watching "LetsGiveItsSpin" stream always using this basic table for playing blackjack really helps from my experience. Off course, you need other users who has basic knowledge like this. The most shity situation on BJ, went you playing with other people who split 10 ~XD

One of the sites had able to add up some games like slots but it is purely blackjack gaming wayback or before.

I have three poker books on my bedside table.  I always read them before bed.

The first book is "Your Worst Enemy of Poker".  Its author is Alan Schoonmaker.  The book was written in 2007 and is devoted to the psychology of the game of poker.

The second book is "Poker math made easy" by Roy Rounder.  This book is essential for all people who want to learn how to play poker well.  She teaches you how to calculate your chances in your head, as well as the chances of your opponents.

The third book is "Poker Therapy" by Peter Clarke.  This is a very detailed analysis of all the patterns and stereotypes that prevent poker players from achieving outstanding success in the game.

I'm not good at this game but I have a little knowledge.

Not sure if this book exists, I saw this in the movie The Hangover and it's use by one of the casts who wins big money in a blackjack game.

Beat the Dealer by Ed Thorp is the blackjack book I've heard recommended the most. Its considered a classic.

https://www.amazon.com/Beat-Dealer-Winning-Strategy-Twenty-One/dp/0394703103

I haven't read many books on gambling. Would recommend steering clear of anything that teaches martingale strategy(which I suspect was devised by casino owners as a way to increase their profits). What is good content is anything involving the mathematical side of gambling. That can consistently be used to improve skill.

Those two sites are gambling sites, not really a good recommendation for someone who is looking for a place to learn skills to play blackjack and poker. Better to find some free websites or application where you can play for free without any risks of losing money. Once you are ready to play with some money, then you can visit the real gambling sites.
@ChiBitCTy I do not really like to read book so I have no idea what to suggest, but you can learn/practice your skills by some mobile applications. Simply use the keywords poker or blackjack in the app store and you can play it anytime you wish. I think learning by doing better than reading books with many pages but for sure you need to read the basic knowledge first about the game before practicing.

Online gambling is the most popular type of gambling nowadays. Its rapid proliferation in the gambling world and the surpassing revenue growth with each passing year have made it the head of many countries around the world it would be best to learn from gambling books by watching videos on youtube although there is a lot of old information in the book, there are always new things on youtube which is a good website for learning gambling.
Im with this on where it is much better on watching out vids rather than on reading up some books (on my own preference)

These two links would be helpful for sure.

This is a wonderful discovery to see people that are only interested in playing only one type of game. For your interest and love for Blackjack, I will advise to go online especially social media like YouTube and get the choice of what you really want if you really want to learn more. You can find more on BLACKJACK on YouTube and also join YouTube channels that are of your interest with many fantastic strategies to learn. That is where I learnt a lots of strategies about some certain games I'm addicted to now.

I watch Blackjack Apprenticeship on Youtube and he's a pretty entertaining channel.

You can certainly learn something when it comes to card counting but at the end of the day just don't view it as a long term profit making venture. Your time is likely going to be worth much more than what you'd gain from playing blackjack professionally.

Especially with the demise of physical casinos, I don't even think it's worth it to learn card counting unless it's just a hobby.

I think that you should probably first learn basic strategy.

Basic strategy is widely available and you can find it pretty much everywhere. Even Wikipedia would work for this.

Then to actually learn the different methods you might want to read some books/attend some sort of coaching. https://blackjack.coach/ is a great site for this, they pretty much go through all aspects that you would want to know about.

I remember seeing him read several Blackjack books, which was his favorite game to play.
If i see the story about your dad i believe he is a professional dad in blackjack and poker games.

Blackjack everyone knows it is one of the most popular casino games around the world, almost all countries in the world people have played Blackjack, what I want to say is: Blackjack has different variations in each country, not all countries are the same type of game is certainly different, in essence the digit 21 is reached.

Example: types of Blackjack games in general such as: Change It 21, F B Blackjack, V S Blackjack, W Blackjack, SD Blackjack and many others, these are all Blackjack games, also different ways of playing such as: 6-8 48, hit 17, 4 deck 52 cards, Spanish 21 and so on.

What I want to ask @ChiBitCTy is: what type of Blackjack game does your dad play the most and what is his favorite you've seen....!
For that at least we are here to find books about Blackjack, poker guides that you can learn, because the types and ways of playing Blackjack are different, of course the explanation books are also different, There are many books about Blackjack, there are at least one or two that you want to learn, I mean the most favorite Blackjack game book and often played by your father.

I own many courses about blackjack on Udemy but I have some books too that I rarely use. I preferred video course on Udemy because you can easily understand all tricks due to visual advantage. There's some quiz and exam too on video course so you can practice the method in actual without risking money on experimenting on online casino.

I remember that there are was a website about poker tutorials in my country, which was active a few years ago.I don't remember the domain name, but there were multiple poker tutorials and links to the best casinos.
The bast way to learn poker or blackjack is to practice.Reading some books and watching tutorials might help a little bit,but becoming a skilled player can be done only thru playing a lot against other good players and even making mistakes.Learning from your mistakes is the best way to learn.

What I know is that experience is very important while playing any type of game, it is good to just start gambling with low amount of money and play to have the experience. I do not know much about blackjack but I have experiences about football gambling which is my favorite type of bet, I noticed I started to check sites I can check the recent things about football and also making use of statistics and other events that has happened in the past. But with what I see about blackjack type of bet, I think this type of gambling should really be just for fun, winnings are not likely to be more than losses, but just use small amount of money to do the thing and enjoy blackjack as you play and never spend beyond your monthly budget, if you are, that is the beginning of addiction.

Your father still loves reading books a good thing I just only know is the greatest gambling book and I didn't read all of those pages already because I'm easily distracted when I saw another book regarding gambling well base on my experience it has good content you can try this too.

I guess his father just really love books and just want to know regarding gambling getting experience in gambling is good but still we can not remove there's people who really get ideas base what they read.

if you are looking for a reference book about the game of blackjack, maybe you can try a book that is quite famous among blackjack players, namely Beat the Dealer, the book was written by Edward O Thorp who is one of the number one Blackjack players in the world, as far as I know in the book There are several tricks and tips that are based on personal experience and knowledge of computerized card counting systems so as to make the chances of winning bigger when playing.
If you are interested, you can look for it in physical bookstores or online and maybe you can also look for it on the internet who knows the book is available in digital form.

I don't read any gambling books, because it is a game based on skill so reading books will really help to improve skills but that happens if try it too, theory will never work without practice.
I found this while searching it on google https://www.casino.org/blackjack/how-to-play/ and trying to learn it, and will also find where you can play for free.

Well of course you have to practice, but you also need to learn how to play.  Just playing blackjack isn't good enough to become good at it unless you're playing all the time and against people who could teach you.  My dad was nearly a genius, and was one in my mind, and was very good at playing blackjack, so I think I'll take his suggestions over yours.

So you're basically saying reading books about gambling won't help, which is utterly ridiculous and not true.  Blackjack isn't just a game of practice , there's a lot more involved in it and if you don't recognize that then you really don't know what you're doing or talking about.  I think it's funny all these dumb ass pieces of "advice" on not reading up on how to get better, strategies etc.  Thanks but keep the "advice".

A book about gambling? Hmmm that's a gamble! HAHA jokes aside, I think instead of purchasing a book, it is better to read articles online or watch videos on YouTube. There are tons of materials that are free on the internet and purchasing a book specifically for 'gambling' may not be a good idea.

Like what most have mentioned, just do some proper research on Google and lots of results would show up.

I did not expect this also- I mean, what would be the content of it? I think it is relatively useless to provide tips since everything's a gamble on gambling?

It's probably just number theories or statistics that can really help you when you're gambling, that's the only book that I think is useful although I don't know any book that has that but pretty sure number theory and statistics are useful tool for gamblers. Websites though, probably a Master Class from Negreaneu might help you

I would not reject the idea that such statistics are useful for gamblers since these can provide knowledge which ca make a gambler make informed moves and decisions. Although, I also have a perspective on the other side.

I did not expect this also- I mean, what would be the content of it? I think it is relatively useless to provide tips since everything's a gamble on gambling?

I really agree that such content can possibly have deficiencies on its accuracy since in gambling, most things are unpredictable and thus gamble.

There is nothing wrong for you to try to read some books with a small nature. Because reading literacy is important for those of us who often discuss let alone talk about gambling. At least it can give you some new knowledge that is not obtained from gambling practice. After all, the book was made by those who have experience in gambling so that you can find assumptions, theoretical linkages and knowledge of how to read situations there. But don't expect more from just reading a book or two. Think of it only as a guide to add scientific insight.

I'm playing only poker for now. The good one is PokerTON. It consists of telegram bot where you creating your account and main site to play poker. The main problem is that you need to buy specific crypto (TON crystal) to gamble on this site. And yeah, withdrawal time is up to 72 hours  :o

But tables and rake are pretty good

You didn't bother sharing the book title. This should be the first time I'm learning about gambling books or guide be it offline or e-book

I have never read a book specifically about gambling with strategiest. but if only theory from the internet there are many articles about it. such as blog sharing about strategy in gambling. manage bankrolls. or martingale . etc. seems like the best way to become more experienced is to directly to play many board or set. and watch a lot of those games.

Depends really on the gambler. I don't read any books as it is more confusing to me. I'd rather practice with stock knowledge and my experience will tell me automatically how to play. All the card games I know were a product of my own observation and not referring to any books. I just ask some questions on the way until I finally learn the game.

Poker games at any type is a game that's not simple to understand but possible to learn just by basic knowledge and watching how players play it.

Only a few books catch my interest but not in gambling. Mostly, I learn those card games by doing it in actual, against a real opponent. There's no trick behind learning but just playing regularly. I even do gamble at Chinese poker every single day because it's really addictive. The same goes for my preferred gambling which is sports betting.

For now, I only refer to some websites about my gamer side where every information is necessary. Gambling-related questions on the other hand can be referred by asking someone or reading a source on some various sources on the world wide web today.

Maybe the theory in the 2020 book can't necessarily be proven true with the experience of gambling directly at the 2021 casino. That's why I prefer to read books about gambling as a form of scientific insight, or appreciate the writings of others. Just as the theory is always inconsistent with jumping in the field which has a more real possibility of creating when you gamble at a particular casino. Sometimes great gamblers are born not because of insight from what they read, but more dominantly from direct experience that he experienced. Is not it?

My father loved to gamble, and was a big Blackjack player.  He was an incredibly smart guy, and always did his homework before ever doing anything at all.  That was no different when it came to gambling.  I remember seeing him read several Blackjack books, which was his favorite game to play.  Do you guys own any good gambling books or know of any website where you can learn skills to play certain games like Blackjack, Poker etc?

I have never read a book specifically about gambling with strategiest. but if only theory from the internet there are many articles about it. such as blog sharing about strategy in gambling. manage bankrolls. or martingale . etc. seems like the best way to become more experienced is to directly to play many board or set. and watch a lot of those games.
Everything is on Google and you can research it there, there are too many articles sharing their strategies and techniques on how to play Blackjack.
A Youtube video was also there, upon checking I saw there is a guide and I want you to research this if you are really interested. Somehow, experience and more experience will lead us into a better gambler, I suggest playing it offline to test your luck. There are certain skills that you will learn if you will keep practice playing on them. However, based on luck games when you are in an online casino is most likely you will experience it.

Google generates a lot of informations including the fake sites so for me its good tha OP ask here first before trying because he might fall into phishing site and its too bad for him. Anyway, reading books is also a good source of knowledge but not everyone is willing to spend time reading it that’s why its too hard to find one because the supply is limited, if you know how that game works say better, try to guide him.

Definitely you could find lots of resources across internet for learning skills on playing blackjack effectively. Because, it is a skill-based game and when you're learning tactics about it then you could definitely become a master of it. I remember in the Hollywood movie, hang out part-1, one guy must be playing blackjack more accurately and winning lots of money from casino after learning tactics from books.

Honestly I love to learn skills for better blackjack because when it comes about our skills to make profits then I guess we can easily make money given that we are developing skills to do so. But, unfortunately I could not find time to learn like that.

I'm surprised to know that there's something as gambling book, I was wondering what are those book for. Strategy? Facts or history about the gambling? I think the only interested with that are serious gamblers. As for me I am not really interested with books I just keep enjoying playing gambling site and always losing.
Just as the normal book, it's for additional knowledge. Like the books that we have for different subjects and topics, of course, there are those for gambling too. They can be about experiences, tips, and secrets that the author has done or has written from other people that have their credit on that book. And like those that you've mentioned, it could contain various facts and as well as things from the past that shall surprise you being on those books. But the thing is that OP is certainly looking for those specific gambling books for helping him improve with those games.

Highly recommend Beat the Dealer by Edward O. Thorp.

However, you shouldn't go in reading these things with the expectation that you are actually going to make money off card counting/advantage play in general.

There is more and more scrutiny around APs and they are getting backed off quite a bit, especially when the profit margins of physical casinos are dwindling. Do it for fun, not for a living.

There are nice and good response here and can't believe you guys are really reading website and books about gambling. I don't feel it will help me or maybe I'm just lazy doing such things lol.

But following this thread for any references.

However, you shouldn't go in reading these things with the expectation that you are actually going to make money off card counting/advantage play in general.

That should be. Books are just for guides but the actual gameplay will still be based on our own moves and actions.

Well of course you have to practice, but you also need to learn how to play.  Just playing blackjack isn't good enough to become good at it unless you're playing all the time and against people who could teach you.

I partially disagree on the part that just playing Blackjack is not enough. Even you played it casually, eventually you will be good. It's not necessary to spend more time in practice and you should be playing against people who could teach you. Hardcore practices are for those players who aimed to be on Top. That's hard to do. For players also that want to turn their gambling habit into a source of income.

But I like your Dad. He is really a genius like you said. He is really well-prepared for a serious match before going into a game. The dedication to win is always there and that's a good mindset that everyone should have.

Blackjack is not purely skill-based. Half of the game is actually based on luck. So it may be helpful that you are guided by certain blackjack techniques, strategies, and other wise ways to play the game but then it still falls on whether you are lucky enough to get the best cards.

Experience is probably another big factor. If you are constantly playing blackjack, you must know the when of the game like when to split, double, etc.

We should forget about card counting.

Not really.

I think that books can teach you how to act, and you can carry it out, but at the end of the day it can still be an unprofitable venture given the fact that card counting generally takes years of practice to perfect and takes a lot of time to go to all these physical casinos.

Plus, you'd be paying thousands in books/courses if you were serious about it.

Learning would be two folds :
1. Knowing about all the rules
2. Practical experience
I do think what you can do is, you can watch any tutorials on YouTube as well, the hard part would be the second one, practical experience, which would mean that you would have to literally play it online tons of time and offline as well if you do have the chance to.
It's a hard skill to achieve. To be good at blackjack is something only few people have, therefore I do think right now it would be wise to take it slow and steady.

For me YouTube is really enough, there are some really helpful videos as well.

Best of luck.

quite interesting if indeed a lot of knowledge can be obtained from books containing gambling. because I've never read anything like that before, What do books usually explain about? and personally have you ever read these books? It's also interesting if the gambling books can really have an impact on someone skill on gambling. for those who like to gamble it might be worth it to read.

There might be a lot of tools to use in the internet for free today, but I know books are one of the most effective tool to learning. However nothing beats the experience.
I'm just a bit curious whether your dad wants to expand his knowledge and master everything about blackjack or poker or he's doing it for his hobbies reading this kind of books.
Because, I think your dad had enough knowledge about these gambling games.

Well, even though I'm not a BlackJack expert I can't share very relevant information about it.

But a site that I know and that I even find interesting is https://blackjack.fun/
I confess that I've used it, but very few times.

Have you thought about taking a look at Youtube to see if you can find something interesting?

Yes, most of the authors have gambled themselves and experienced a lot of things with it. And that's why those that have been best selling, it's been seen by most of the buyers and who have read it to be effective. Aside from that, they've simply liked how the book was made and it's really hitting them as a gambler because they can probably related to the authors. One book that's related to poker that I've seen on the web and for sale is 'The Theory of Poker'.

You can find many books and videos about specific gambling games... and if you are totally new maybe it's good to check some of them, maybe you can pick up a few tricks! I never had a wish to read some book about gambling, before I had more free time and was watching poker games, it's interesting to see how the professionals are playing some hands, in my opinion, poker is a lot different from blackjack and other "vs house" games, those games I like to play and test for myself!
I think it's much better to practice, to learn how to play longer, to not hurry with big bets... to find possible combinations, and that is the excitement we can get! Learning how to control yourself while you play is one of the hardest things for all of us, so try to achieve that with practice, books can help I guess, there you can read exactly what I wrote now, but in the longer version!

That's a lot of books just to learn the theories and how to beat blackjack in a gaming scenario, the only problem now is the gambling houses, I assume that some of them aren't going to welcome card counters in their tables and they are already putting some measures to deter card counting.
The house will do everything for them to win against you so even if you read all those books, you can’t still win continuously in one casino only. Anyway, i was able to read some books before about gambling though it only tackles about the general information about it, that can still be a good source of knowledge if you really want to pursue gambling, these is already a good list of Books to start with.

I do not suggest buying any books or using paid services to learn blackjack or poker or other skills gambling games because when you can access the internet, you will find tons of sources lessons that can help you learn many lessons. After making a list of those websites, you can filter one by one of the sources and divide it based on what you want to learn step by step. That will help you improve your skills in those gambling game-based skills to play better than before.

Did you check with youtube tutorials? I remember that I have bookmarked few very good channels for poker and blackjack but anyone could find them by simply googling. (If my time permits, I may dig and add here).

Books are really just good for theory but not really that a thing where you can really rely on but it is good to know the basics and other terms and stuffs because everything will really be on pure experience.
You do know the terms or theory but if you do lack experience or actual engagement then it would really be just the same. Books are good but wont really be enough if it wouldnt really be tied up
with real experience.Lots of resources are available online and its up to you on what you would take.,

Long time ago I read the classic book Beat the Dealer by Edward Thorp, anyone that is serious about playing blackjack professionally must read the book because as far as I know it was the first time blackjack has been beaten as a game, unfortunately casinos now know about the strategy and they have developed several techniques to protect themselves, but even then there are a few professional teams out there that can beat them despite those changes, so if you have not read the book I seriously recommended it.

It's obvious that Books are for guides and tips. It's like reading other sources as a guide and reference. The test and challenges now are, how to applied all the knowledge we gained from that books or any other sources and applied literally to the game.

There are also instances where we are ended up in a situation that's not mentioned or written on the source we read at. That's the time experience matters so even losing during the early period, just continue as mistakes is the best foundation on building an experience.

Somehow, I agree with this suggestion. If he can search from the internet, especially on Youtube, he can get many good lessons to learn poker, blackjack, etc and he does not need to buy a book anymore. The internet will have unlimited sources if we want to search for and have the patience to find the right book that can help us to improve our skills. If that is about resources, the internet is the best place to find it and you do not have to pay anything except your connection to the internet.

Besides that, I think many books will have a basic lesson for that card games but if you can get more lessons from the internet, your skills will improve and you can learn more techniques to win.

By the way, there are several content posted by others users that will be useful not only for me but for others as well, thanks guys!

YouTube is a very good source of educational materials for all areas of human endeavor.  In particular, there are a lot of poker and blackjack training videos.  I really appreciate YouTube as a source of valuable information.

However, in my opinion, it cannot replace books.  Especially paper books.  The basics of playing blackjack and poker can be learned by watching videos.  Paper books involve thoughtful study.  I read them at night (before bed).  In a dream, the main processing of information occurs.  I can read one book for more than six months.

And each reading opens up new facets of the game of poker or blackjack for me.

Long time ago I read the classic book Beat the Dealer by Edward Thorp, anyone that is serious about playing blackjack professionally must read the book because as far as I know it was the first time blackjack has been beaten as a game, unfortunately casinos now know about the strategy and they have developed several techniques to protect themselves, but even then there are a few professional teams out there that can beat them despite those changes, so if you have not read the book I seriously recommended it.
You might able to read up those things but wont really be enough for you to make yourself better in blackjack. There's no such thing about those holy grail methods.

I don't recommend any books or websites and it would really rather see or watch videos on YouTube in regards on learning up some gambling games which is out of my awareness or knowledge.

Everything can be searched up if you are really that eager on learning up those things since internet does provide out everything in terms of informations.

I think a few other people already mentioned this, but for Blackjack advantage play I would look at Blackjack Apprenticeship.

For poker, I watch Daniel Negreanu's youtube channel where he tends to go into quite a lot of detail for the novice player.

I don't think that it's worth buying a book or buying a training course/subscription. Most of them aren't worth your money/time.

Yes, youtube videos are much easier to understand because we can see firsthand the practice or tutorials and most importantly the videos are reliable and have a large number of subscribers and besides that they are easy to understand and can help in the desired gambling.
it all depends on you, it's easier to understand in what way and without buying a guide book you can search for it on google according to your needs, the most important thing is not lazy to read, and in my personal opinion youtube is a source of a myriad of knowledge depending on what we need.

I also prefer watching videos and strategy tutorials rather than reading gambling books for me to understand things clearly. Sometimes, reading enough couldn't give us complete information so visualizing it would be an advantage. There are also reliable books that we could find online but we have to be skeptical in picking.

Is not it?

I do not reject the idea that books are great source of insights, in fact, I would love to read and appreciate different writings on gambling. Although, I would not understate the belief that I uphold that experience is the best teacher. Indeed, direct experience build and makes up a great gambler.

Beat the Dealer by Edward Thorp is in fact the holy grail as you put it, it is a proven method to be able to play with an advantage against the casinos, I think card counting already existed but he was the the first to describe exactly why this worked and he beat the casinos with this and all professional blackjack player uses card counting to beat the casinos, this is not luck or any of the fake methods that you can find online, it is a skill and it is not easy to learn and as I said casinos know about this so getting profits is harder, but it can still be done by those that are serious about the game.

Reading books will be good to get more information besides of search for the info from the internet.
If they can have much information from many resources and practice what he learns, he can get more experience that can give him the chance to win.
Experience can be the best teacher but that will only work if you can learn from your experience and learn from your mistakes to improve your skills.
Someone becomes a pro if he can use many things to get more knowledge.

In my opinion, when you start learning poker and blackjack, you need to fully immerse yourself in this subject.

Yes, hands-on experience is very important.  In this case, you need to play with both stronger and weaker players.  Each player has his own stance and tactics of the game.

You can learn useful tricks from everyone.  But one game is not enough.  The study of theory is also necessary.  You can learn theory by watching YouTube videos and reading books.  When I started to master the game of poker, my thoughts were only about this game of chance.

Sometimes I stopped passers-by on the street to tell them about another trick of playing poker (which I realized for myself).  People looked at me like I was crazy.  But I knew it was a learning process.😊

I saw some bookstores selling books but I didn't have the chance to check or probably browse on it. Was it really helpful to improve your games and your skills if you read such books I think it still depends on chances that you are going to win in Blackjack and poker right? or there was something more like strategy and other things which would improve your chance of winning.

There are also instances where we are ended up in a situation that's not mentioned or written on the source we read at. That's the time experience matters so even losing during the early period, just continue as mistakes is the best foundation on building an experience.

And we are required to be creative if we do not find something that does not fit in the book but in gambling it is something new. Not everything is listed in the Blackjack manual. We must be able to collaborate from several existing sources and create winning opportunities based on real conditions. The structure or steps in the book are only taken from the important points, not all include the techniques that we must apply in all Blackjack gambling.

I would not reject the idea that such statistics are useful for gamblers since these can provide knowledge which ca make a gambler make informed moves and decisions. Although, I also have a perspective on the other side.
If you don't reject the idea then that means that I'm right, that we shouldn't be read a lot of those books and that only one suffices since they're all essentially the same.

You're better off using google and doing your own research on books for these two games. There is already a world of information out there, just type "top 10 poker books" or "top 10 blackjack books" in and compare the feedback from a few different websites. You'll quickly be able to narrow down the books that are repeated favorites and those are probably the ones to go for first. This helps you minimize falling for astroturfing or fake reviews. Google is probably a much better source of a rating system than actual shopping sites like Amazon who are heavily manipulated. At the end of the day you'll only beat the house at Blackjack by counting cards and every live casino will catch you quickly these days. Poker is a good game but there are people who have spent many decades practicing and you'll need to be very clever to outplay them, plus beat the rake.

Make no mistake, books are also very important to expand knowledge. On Youtube just as a basic addition so that we get to know more about how to gamble directly when someone is playing Blackjack. Both watching videos and reading books, both are very active in increasing knowledge. Especially if accompanied by simple practices such as fighting friends or visiting online casinos to get to know each other more closely.

Apart from that your advice about better searching on Google is a way to save even more. It is true that nowadays nothing is difficult if we really want to find something material-based on the internet. Not even just gambling books, whatever it is will be provided based on the most relevant search keywords.
Although for me personally ordering physical books for reference as well as downloading on Google are both important to do. The reason is quite simple, when we do not find what we are looking for in books, we can find it on the internet.

Like most things in life you can learn by just reading or seeing someone else do it but at the end of the day at some point you need to begin to take a hands on approach and see how good you can be, this means that you are going to suffer some losses and you will make your fair share of mistakes but that is part of any learning experience, however if your aim is to become a professional poker player then this is even harder as you will compete against people that have years of experience over you, so the road ahead of you will be even harder if you choose that route.

Mistake of most people is that they do really love to deal things on very easy and effortless which it isn't surprising that majority of us do really end up on committing mistakes because of that wrong presumptions or assumption on things specially if you are trying to achieve which cant really be attained in a short time.

Going back on the topic in regarding with gambling bookies and websites then there are lots that you can find in this market. It is really just requiring a little bit time on making some research.

It isn't really that hard to look for one if yo are really eager into but it seems people are way too lazy most of the time.

You can see videos in Youtube because many vloggers have made videos about certain games that can help you and it's for free but if you prefer books you can also buy it online and certainly one their best selling books about beginners guide or about bluffing doesn't come cheap.

You can also see this site that can may be of help to find what book you need, hope it helps.

But do not take seriously watching the video as we do not know if they made the videos because they want to teach their audience from the video or they just want to show what they did in gambling. We can search from the other sources, and I am sure that if we can learn from many sources, that can add more knowledge to us, improving our skills in playing a certain game.

Everything can be accessed easily and you don't have to bother visiting bookstores anymore. The internet provides everything you need so make the most of it. Even the list of gambling books, which we haven't fully read until the last page, requires motivation to increase reading literacy.

Even the list of gambling books, which we haven't fully read until the last page, requires motivation to increase reading literacy.

LOL the internet does NOT provide everything you need. I am amazed at how dumb some of the "advice" is that is being given here.  Books are still a very important part of our culture and smart people read them, simple as that.  There is plenty that is found in books that is NOT able to be found online for all sorts of things in life.  Plus, when you're buying a book on a topic by a reputable author, you're skipping the time wasted trying to find info online then wondering if it's even legit info or not.  C'mon ya'll.

You can find many guides on the internet that will teach you how to play blackjack. The one site to rule them all and my favorite one is btcgosu.
btcgosu not only has guides for a lot of games but also gambling site reviews too.

https://www.btcgosu.com/bitcoin-casino-games/blackjack/

Here you can find the top gambling sites which has blackjack and the guide on how to play black jack.

Well, people around the world tend to produce more books to sell until the internet is introduced to the people. Although, search engines before is not that yet common but as the time pass by people tend to put their books in the internet and start monetizing it by making blogs. And in the present, technology is getting advanced, meaning more information you can obtain in the internet than in the books. It's just up to you how you will use the internet nowadays to advance your research and gambling books are just small numbers compared to the whole world information.

Therefore, when it comes to searching for books about gambling, it is very easy to find and even paid ones can be accessed for free (even though such actions do not respect the author's work). Come on, today's reading literacy is an important thing to improve. Because after all the level of reading literacy in some countries is declining. I even made a few self-published books. That is the reason why not all books are read if we are not nerds. I know the internet provides everything instantly. Well you are right not everything on the internet is listed in books and vice versa. All have their own drawbacks. We can fix these limitations to complement each other and unify them in one point of view.

In my opinion, whether reading a physical book or using the internet, both increase our knowledge and creativity and most importantly don't be lazy to read.

Both of these also have their own advantages and disadvantages. However, which one is better.
and according to some studies it turns out that reading physical books is better than reading through the internet because reading books is in accordance with the reality of actual experience or there are also authors who have experienced it.

The more we read, the more effective our brains operate optimally, increasing the power of analytical, critical thinking, and of course as a way to increase concentration. Even a gambling book, the effect will increase the power of focused thinking, increase the stimulus for clear thinking. But that's why we are not really bookworms who can spend time every day reading, lack of literacy causes the brain to often stress.

So knowledge about gambling, whether obtained from books or the internet, has all been arranged in such a way for us to consume it instantly. One of the advantages of books is obtaining information in an organized manner, a strand of meaning whose essence structure has been arranged.

Remember Edgar Dale cone theory "10% of what we read, 20% of what we hear, 30% of what we see, 50% of discussion engagement and 70% of hands-on practice or action".

So people or authors who had been posting stuffs on internet doesnt really have actual experience? I dont think so because people or the community would really be finding out if those things are false information about a certain or particular matter. When it comes on reading then it wouldnt really matter whether you do read a book or sources in the internet. You could actually make out some comparison if you do have doubts.
Videos are quite relevant too which means it doesnt matter on where you do get information as long you do learn and the rest of learning is on actual experience itself which means
you would really be needing to play.

Reading be it with the help of book or with the help of internet could be a good tool to improve your reading comprehension and can increase your knowledge however due to the instant information that we can now get through internet sometimes we don't know which information really provide a great help and legit information for us. So it is still better to have a reliable source of information so we cannot be mislead by the information that we have acquired. Books are considered as a reliable source of information and so do the internet but in terms of internet we need to be more curious and responsible to find for a true information that we need.

People recommend video sources like YouTube or articles on the web because that is what they watch and read, but books will always have way more in-dept information that is simply impossible to expose in a short video about the topic, for example we can find a lot of information about poker online but most of what I know about it I learned from Doyle Brunson's Super System Book, and I doubt we can find a video or series of videos which are remotely close to what you can find in that book, which at the same time was written by a legend and he is someone that we know for a fact made a living out of playing poker.

Well it is hard to find books now and perhaps a bookstore does not have this kind of book because it is related to gambling, e-book seems a good source but I prefer to watch a youtube video and other tutorials on blackjack and poker. I love to play poker and I learned it from playing in the poker app that I installed on my mobile phone and that is off-line. Until now I can still use my knowledge on these games and poker is always the best game that played before. Searching on the internet to gather information even it is basic is the most important.

Yup! I do agree, if anyone is a bookworm then one can sure rely on books, but for me watching some tutorials, is way more convenient for me, but don't get me wrong I surely read books, but not on tutorials, it will surely never sink in most of the time, and ones should always start with the basics, some basic tutorials that I have seen in the internet and just one google away, is a better start to look for it, and if you have learned the basics some technique will sure to follow and experience is always a good teacher after all.

Actual practice is really necessary as even reading either books, e-books, or videos, without actual gameplay, we can't understand the whole aspects of the game. But sometimes, not all information can be seen on the internet for free. There are gambling books that were made originally by some of the popular gamblers. Their own tricks that formed thru their experience were golden tricks for them that it's not allowed to share for free. There are people who are buying that kind of book even they know already how that game is played. Don't know their reason but maybe that game is their passion to the point that they are willing to pay for a book for more information or they just idolized the author.

Does reading Books about gambling help in winning ? My opinion is no, reading books about gambling will give just an outline about how to play and what way moves need to be made. The real gameplay will be entirely different from what is being read on the book. Because, the author of the book writes the book from his experience and the reader can't expect the same to happen as the author. Reading books is always good, but reading should be considered as a reference to know better about gambling.

Its only good for theory or for terms or knowing with the basics or on how the game should be played but it isn't the right thing for you to rely on when it comes to increase someones winning chance.

It all matters with the experience and skill itself which would only be attained through numerous gameplays that you had engage on.Learning is a process and it cant really be attained on a

short span of time but if op is really eager on looking for books or websites then I do believe that it had been mentioned or provided already by some members.

The format I think it is not relevant, some people prefer books and some prefer ebooks but at the end the content is the same so just pick whatever is the most convenient for you and start learning, I know the information you can see in a video is in a more friendly format and I also know people retain information better in that format as well, however books cannot be beaten when it comes to the depth of the information you can read in them.

Personally, I don't know much about books like blackjack or other reference books, it turns out that I don't read much about them. Many people here suggest good books about gambling and that will certainly help people like me to understand it better. Gambling books are usually read by someone before starting to bet so that they can use the strategy well. that's why we have to increase our knowledge well for example by having many poker book references like this to help us in gambling.

I believe these websites will definitely be helpful to you in learning Blackjack and make you a pro in counting cards. ;)

I am not too much into finding strategies about any game in YouTube because a great deal of what you see there is false information, however when it comes to blackjack the first step is to learn the basic strategy, this is the strategy that minimizes the house edge to minimum levels and makes blackjack one of the most attractive games from that perspective, then you need to learn about card counting, there are many systems but the original was published by Edward Thorp in the book beat the dealer.

The forum above this category is full of all the casino and bookmaker sites you'll ever need. I personally like Sportsbet.io quite a lot, because they are one of the few Bitcoin gambling sites that offer the chance to win free bets in a couple different competitions that they run each week. They're also at a very high level, to the point of sponsoring a couple English Premier League football clubs, so you know that they are not going to disappear overnight and run away with any funds you might hold there. I've found the odds to be very competitive compared with fiat sites and they are always running different promotions. They cover all the basic sports offerings and pay out really fast.

You can use this site to get some basic practice with card counting: https://www.blackjackapprenticeship.com/blackjack-training-drills/

But there is a reason why card counters nowadays spend more time trying to market their course or training program instead of actually card counting at casinos.

Physical casinos numbers are dwindling and increasingly you won't find good tables to play at for long periods of time for Blackjack. Online casinos don't have good deck penetration whatsoever. So you're not going to see returns on your time investment even if you have a big bankroll as an advantage player.

This was to be expected, card counting has been known for a very long time and casinos have taken many measures to reduce and eliminate the advantage of the card counters, when you are playing in a live casino you can expect them to use several decks, constant shuffling and in many instances the dealer also keeps the count and they see if anyone is changing their betting patterns when they have advantage on the count, and if someone does then they can ask you to leave as casinos do not like someone that plays with an advantage over them.

If you use the term "tips/advices on blackjack," you will find tons of videos on Youtube so you can directly watch one by one to find what you think you can try the tips or advice. But I never tried by myself because playing Blackjack is not as simple as the other while it is a card game that needs more experience. Maybe after you get one or two strategies, you can practice or modify the strategy to work for you because I do not think that every strategy you get from the internet will always work for you.

You wouldnt learn unless you do try and this is the basic principles in life thats why its no harm if you do really make out some application of those things had been
stated or been showed on videos or ebooks online.

It is just a matter of application whether you do really follow but the main point of seeing those things is on how to be done or simply being
aware and able to learn up things.

All of things can be searched through online and does matter on how you do apply it.

I have two book recommendations for you that I can attest will help you learn the basics and fundamentals to win from gambling. The first one would be "The World's Greatest Balckjack" which showcases the complete details about what you need to know in betting, calculating the odds of winning, strategies and gameplays, and how to spot cheating, how to avoid being cheated on, and most importantly how to pick and chose your dealer. This book can give you so much knowledge which you can use everytime you play. You just have to familiarize with whatever is written on the book and of course, execute what you have learned.

Second one would be "Beat the Dealer: A Winning Strategy for the Game of Twenty One". This book is full of useful information as well like the former one I have mentioned. This book also contains the details about betting and utilizing your card to your advantage to win. This also has the information needed to spot cheating and the strategies that will be your armor whenever you are playing. You can trust this book because it was written by a reputable author which is known to be very excellent in his field. I can assure you that this is a nice book to be a primary source when you're looking for one.

I hope I was able to help. If you can, please drop a feedback if you happen to pick these books I recommended. It would be of great help to future users here with the same question too.

I can assure you that this is a nice book to be a primary source when you're looking for one.

I hope I was able to help. If you can, please drop a feedback if you happen to pick these books I recommended. It would be of great help to future users here with the same question too.
This are excellent recommendations, I've seen alot of people post about "The World's Greatest Blackjack" here which makes me think it's really a good book to read in the subject of gambling, and you recommending it again in your post kind of affirms my assumptions.

I sure will look out for this two books when next I visit the book store, I would have probably searched google and download the pdf versions of it but I've discovered that reading books on my phone or laptop isn't as exciting and uplifting as reading the hardcopy, so thank you for this and I will sure come back with feedback after reading them.

because I do not think that every strategy you get from the internet will always work for you.
Well, it is true that not all strategies that you see on every YouTube video about playing blackjack or others won't work at all times. Going with all of the videos will take your time.
I think choose those with a lot of views and good comments and you don't have to go through with each video that you see because it's a total waste of time and you might see just the same content and strategies.

^ You mean watching strategies from streamers? No, I will not recommend them, they are just hyping their casino to lure gamblers and I think the reason why most becomes fall into the trap. Besides, if you will analyze will, there is no strategy that will work in a long period of time, probably it could be a short period of time and I have doubt that every casino has patches to their system that they think once there is an account that has a consistently won they will adjust it that could be it won't work in the next session.

Not just from streamers alone but to those that upload videos with their gambling activities. They are not streamers but they're content creators that upload videos that they think are helpful to those people that are also looking for the same content of what they upload. They're different from streamers but as you said they could also be paid by casinos to promote their videos. But the difference is they have to tell it on their video that they're being sponsored. As I know, it's a requirement of YouTube to tell that your video is sponsored.

I think that in YouTube it is no longer possible to find normal and reliable information about game strategies.  Almost all videos are staged performances, some more realistic, others just fantastic.
And everywhere they have a 100% success.;D
All this is a lie and all this is done by the casinos themselves, YouTube, streamers, etc. So it's better not to watch anything like that at all.
And to develop your own strategy, short-term may well work.  If you are able to think over your moves in detail, and not make them in a state of excitement

I do agree with that. Many are making a gimmick but I think that there are still some legitimate strategies. But when a working strategy works for them, it's not 100% going to work for the others.
It's the same to us that there could a strategy that works for us but when it's applied to the others, it's not going to work for them because there's no guaranteed strategy that works for everybody.

This is definitely noticed!
Of course, the use of any strategy is always determined by the psychological profile of the person who uses it.  One player's reaction is fast, another's is slower, and now there is no longer a 100% reliable application of this strategy.  Therefore, there are probably no strategies that are universal for use and take into account human psychology and, by the way, the psyche too.  But, if you watch YouTube and the corresponding videos of streamers, they win millions of dollars ;D, then this should be treated as if you are watching a comedy fantasy film, and nothing more. :)

To add to the discussion and what you've said, if there was a guaranteed strategy that works for anyone and every one who applies it out there, then don't you guys think we all will be rich? There would be no poor man anywhere cus all one would have to do is apply the same strategy others have applied to make money.
So strategies aren't guaranteed to make anyone richer than they already are.

And again, watching YouTube videos and streams and believing everything the host says or do is a big mistake, we should all understand that most of this YouTube reviews we see are paid promotion, the you tubers are paid to do or say whatever they do or say, how about the winnings? 99 if not 100 percent of those are already programed to be so even before they click the "Go Live" button, all those are for advertisment purposes, there were never meant to be taken seriously, but noobs still do unfortunately.

True to that. It should always be taken with a grain of salt if it's for the winnings. But if you think that the strategy being used is applicable to you then you're free to try it.
In all of the strategies that are coming out everywhere, you're the one to choose which works for you the best and if there's none then you have to explore and make your own one.

Your dad is exceptionally gifted with the ability to always research first before jumping to a new venture. Few people ever have this ability which down the line causes them to incur losses. As per books that will help him study how Blackjack works, I would suggest the World's Greatest Blackjack Book written by Lance Humble, and Blackjack Play Like a Pro written by John Bukofsky. These books are jam-packed with information on how to beat the dealer, what strategies work best for certain situations, and more. I'm sure he'll love these masterpieces because they are very easy to read too.
because I do not think that every strategy you get from the internet will always work for you.

What I would suggest your dad do is to analyse the most common situations and combinations of events that happen in each game, make a statistical report from it, and from there derive the most effective strategies he can use in order to counter such eventualities. Of course not every strategy works for the person and for the particular game you're playing but if you narrow it down to a common denominator, you can get positive information you are sure you can use in each game.

These days the best advice if you want to learn many things is via Youtube - there are all sorts of guides and even documentaries that can teach you how to play blackjack profitably. Unfortunately technology is so good these days that you are unlikely to be able to beat the house for very long before you get banned from the casino. There is no law against counting cards (the only consistent way to win) however the casinos are very good at bullying players because they know all the tricks in use. You might be better off mastering a new skill like poker where you can gradually improve and eek out a profit from the comfort of your own home - it requires a lot of determination, patience, time and perseverance however.

They wont able to take some action against YouTube itself but somewhat the company is really trying out their best on to get rid of those things which are against and non ethical.
Newcome mistakes are very common due to lack of experience or lets say that they aren't really that using their common sense.

In regards of Gambling book or website then I don't see for it to be much needed unless if you are really that serious on learning something and we know that
everything could really be searched up on net.

YouTube and other online tutorials are everywhere.

Whenever someone is trying to sell you something 9 times out of 10 you should assume that whatever comes out of their mouth is either an exaggeration or an outright lie, there are several books that can help you understand gambling games in a better, way, in fact something I have not seen recommended yet is a book about the field of statistics and probabilities, as if you study the subject you realize how difficult it is to beat the house and why those tactics you see in those videos will never work out.

Are you also interested to follow your father's footstep OP? Or are you just curious on how to play Blackjack and Poker? If so, you can watch tutorial videos on Youtube and search in google for free. But for me, I don't really know how to play and honestly didn't see how the Blackjack was supposed to play, and I just know the basic skills about Poker but I found this link (below) in the internernet that might help on what you need about these games, so please feel free to check if it's a helpful tips.
