Bitcoin has no physical presence. What if we just stop believing in bitcoin. I mean every country has the equivalent of gold to their fiat. Bitcoin has no gold or physical value. Can this ever happen ?

Don't include me with that if question that's being made on your mind. There will always be the believers and there will be non-believers.

You mean gold reserve? Bitcoin has no physical value and that's why it's a digital asset that we're owning right now. It might have no gold as its reserve but the value itself is a composition of many things, one is coming from the power consumption through miners and next is through the demand of it.

Why should anybody believe in such a dark situation ?  Bitcoin is a cryptographic currency who may only exist in the internet, it wasn't created to have a physical value.
Stop believing in bitcoin means that we shut down all the active nodes and erase all the stored blockchain history. Logically, it's possible. But in fact, this is almost impossible even if we succeed to shut down internet and electricity in the whole world.
By the way, not every country has the equivalent of gold to their fiat. Almost all of them haven't this equivalence. FIAT money still exist because of the large adoption and not because of the gold equivalence, and bitcoin already has that large adoption without being backed by anything.

Bitcoin is  not about belief or trust.

Bitcoin is trustless. Permissionless. Borderless.

It is the only currency which you can send your money to whoever you want, when you want. You don't need to trust anyone, neither to tell anyone, nor ask for permission.

People use bitcoin because it is useful, not because people believe in it.

It's not true that every country has the equivalent of gold to their fiat. It's just the government declaring those fiat papers have value. The governments today can't even withdraw their gold from banks. Maduro whom we could consider the worse dictator of Venezuela couldn't withdraw gold from the Bank of England.

I think it will not happen. many people who use bitcoin are disappointed with fiat money because of its inflation. I am not sure that fiat momey is really equivalent with gold. The fact that gold price always rise is a proof that something is not correct. I am here because I looking for alternative currency which cannot be controlled by central authority where I can get real freedom.

Don't assume the things that are impossible, even though Bitcoin does not have a physical presence, but it has been proven that the more interest there is... it becomes more valuable and equivalent to the exchange rate of gold on fiat.
This life from time to time will lead to a more advanced direction (modern era), and there will be new things that appear, including Bitcoin which has been proven to attract many people's trust. I think it's hard for most people to lose their belief in Bitcoin and the things that come with it.

Physical appearance does not correlate to value. A currency like fiat has physical cash notes, but it doesn't have any intrinsic value besides what is placed on it by the nation's economy and banks, who can always print some more.
Physical presence does not also affect believe, no one needs to hold Bitcoin to understand how the network works, but hypothetically speaking, if everyone did forget about Bitcoin, there would be no trade and as such it would have zero liquidity and lose almost all of its value.

This is one question that would definitely makes someone stop and think about it for such a long time. I mean the consequences of one acting to this notion of losing one belief in Bitcoin. When you lose belief in something, then the only thing you can do is to stop thinking about it, and stop doing the things that you do before when you believe in such an asset. Now that you do not believe in Bitcoin, then the best thing to do is to stop participating in exchanges, uninstall all your programs and apps, and stop talking about it altogether.

Yes, this will happen but not too soon. It happens to every currency. So it will happen to Bitcoin also. There will be a particular time in the future when there is a better technology that could be used with more convenience and efficiency than Bitcoin. By that time people will jump into it and decide to simply stop using Bitcoin.

This is the same with fiat. Fiat was also welcomed when it came out as a better money several decades ago. And then here comes the crypto technology which offers a better and more sound money.

bitcoin will be here , but of course the chance of believing in other coin in the future is there but at least adoption must happen first around the globe.

I do not want to stop believing in bitcoin because bitcoin already gives benefits to me and I still want to use bitcoin and prepare for my future. With what already happened to bitcoin, I do not think that the country will stop using bitcoin because I think they already benefit too. People themselves will use bitcoin, so as long as bitcoin still gives an advantage to them, they will still believe.

As long as the internet is still available to us, bitcoin will exist and reach more people. The digital era has come and I think we need to adjust ourselves to accept it to reach the next era and grow and that will happen to all countries in the future.

If you asked my teacher of economic at the university about this, he would just grin and asked you in return what gold is backed by. And if you consider this question, you will understand that actually everything depends on people, if they decided that it is valuable and can be used it acquires a price straightaway, so another your question what will happen if people stop believing in Bitcoin is more correct. There's ni physical Bitcoin like the fiat currency it's the same with the digital currency and also before the price of the bitcoin rise to only a few people see the potential of this coin to give a huge amount of profit but of course, only people trust this coin and now they are already rewarded. As of now, we see the potential of bitcoin do you think still someone does not want to believe with this profitable currency I guess not tons of people becomes a millionaire. Bitcoin's value comes from the work done by the miners to mint those coins. It is the "Proof" of the "Work" and therefore has value. Now the fiat price is a different thing. Once a coin has been minted, the seller determines a price at their wish and the buyer accepts a price at their wish. This determines the market price. This should not be confused as value of bitcoin - 1BTC is always 1BTC, but the fiat price may differ with time.

As stated by others, gold itself is a piece of metal, why give it value in the first place? Because we need some "Standard" to price something against. That is how we determine prices of things that we need.

While mining and the amount of work that is done to provide one type of security for bitcoin, this work is not the definitive factor determining the value of bitcoin. As I said earlier value comes from utility not how much it costs to mine it.

For example you can spend a ton of money trying to turn sea water to drinking water but you can't say the value of the water you produced is more than any other drinking water on the planet just because you spent a lot of money.

A coin has got two sides. When the coin is tossed we don't know which side is gonna visible while landing. Same as that there'll be believers and non believers. We'll get to know the true value with time. This is quite a common thought of any human how to believe something that doesn't have physical presence. People who had such thoughts years back are now feeling bad of not believing. So, there is no compulsion to believe.

If you don't want to believe something that doesn't have physical presence then you just stand on the side and watch what the believers are making out of bitcoin.

That question might have made sense back in 2009-2010 when we were first introduced to Bitcoin. It's irrelevant now because Bitcoin has survived and jumped over all hoops that have been put in its way. You can't question Bitcoin's existence or utility just because you can't see it or touch it. You don't see the air you breath either, but it's still there. For now, there is no reason to believe that people are going to abandon a decentralized technology that gives them power and control they don't have elsewhere.

Even before crypto had value, it already had a community thats why this forums exist. and after repeatedly showing the greatness of crypto and the convenience it provides in conducting transactions and other financial matters. many people have been helped by bitcoin and crypto. and the things you imagine are unlikely to happen.

Those wo didn't know crypto yet upto no will surely not make them worried but those who already in crypto,was able to get prfit from it , or thosd who see how easy transaction can be when they ue bitcoin and same with when they do trading to get profit. Wrong, fiat money hasn't been backed by physical commodities since 1971, the year when the gold standard was "temporarily" taken off by Ronald Reagan. Moreover, most people believe that Bitcoin will succeed exactly because it has no physical presence. In essence, the lack of physicality, along with other important properties, is what enables bitcoin to be the best form of money mankind has ever seen. It is true that nowadays fiat money is mostly of digital nature too, but central banks won't allow you to transact freely, especially in places where the banking system doesn't exist whatsoever. Therefore Bitcoin from the beginning had nothing to do with certain countries, even by its nature it has only been established since it appeared only used by the community, does not exist on the basis of the state and also does not stand on the permission of any country. If you stop believing in Bitcoin, it won't change anything about the stability of many people. You don't have a big share and you won't change the price by 1%.
So back to your level of belief whether the doubts are gone or just growing bigger seeing everyone realize how great Bitcoin has to be for the future.

casascius bitcoin is a physical BTC, that should represent. butnwe all know BTC is meant to be a digital currency so it has to exist on the internet which today is just too big to fail. not even a government can stop it now so its not possible that we all will be uninterested to BTC and sell. its not gonna happen.

So yeah, would can this happen? Probably NO, Haven't you seen or feel the capabilities of Bitcoin itself? If not, then you are missing something big. Big in terms of opportunity. You wouldn't ask this one if you have been already. Bitcoin has no gold, but it has value, a value that is worth more than some of the available physical tradable items. Bitcoin is not gold, it's an ongoing innovation and the future.

bitcoin doesn't have a real physical like fiat and gold but it managed to make a lot of people rich because it made it past $50k, that's an amazing thing. CZ, Elon and also jack dorsey have said that bitcoin will continue to exist and its value will continue to rise.

This is such a hypothetical question, just like "what if we stopped all wars" or "what if criminals stopped commiting crimes". You know people don't just do something, there must always be a reason. So people can only massively lose faith if something makes them, like a succesful attack against it, a devastating bug, backdoor or weakness in the underlying cryptography, a global ban, etc. Such events are very unlikely, so it's pointless to worry about them.

I really didn't get the point of why you asking such a question. Has no physical value doesn't mean that bitcoin doesn't exist or is just an imaginary thing, its existence is backed under coding/programming language though. A simple comparison, if you stop believing in the existence of phone's credit or maybe the internet quota whether both of it would disappear?

Do you know who this person is? Yes, it is Satoshi Nakamoto. He mightn't believe it, but he didn't ignore your word. Because I am the person who first heard about bitcoin in 2016 from a YouTube video, and from that time without knowing anything about this project, I became a fan of this technology. Well perhaps OP thinks that bitcoin has no existence and since it does not exist, Op does not believe that there is bitcoin, what do you think about bitcoin it is a myth or a part of traditional history? No --bitcoin is on computers, it is programming and the one that was quoted was right, it is just a code that was created and only computers can read, verify, and can monitor in public the latest transaction and that is a public leger. It's definitely not going to happen, but as we are talking as if, it's pretty sure in that case bitcoin price would drop to zero, as this market works fully in function of simple supply and demand rule, without any external possibility of manipulation or interference.

I believe what backs bitcoin price is its functionality and efficiency for its adopters. But as soon as it becomes obsolete, the price will fall.

gold and bitcoin also cannot be equated, because they have different properties. Every aspect in this current world condition is virtual right now, everyone is doing work from virtual, doing meeting virtual, even the signature are digital signature. So i think, the world towards to digital world where pysical asets is no longer so much valuable. People always want to get valuable things, many people want to get gold, but not everyone has a lot of gold. It will be the same with bitcoin, most people will have very little bitcoin, just a few satoshis. Someone will have several bitcoins and they will be wealthy people, bitcoin in the future will be like a jewel. People may not believe in gold now, but its value will not diminish from this, the same will happen with bitcoin.

trust in bitcoin is growing rapidly at times like this, even bitcoin has become a currency in one of these countries, this is a sign that in the future bitcoin will be more trusted in other countries, so that bitcoin trust in the future will increase and even beat fiat in my opinion.

If we stop believing in Bitcoin and stop demanding it in any way, it will affect Bitcoin in a really bad way. Above all else, it will affect the price very highly. Because if there is no demand, Bitcoin price also can't have good days and it would start falling down quickly to very low levels. Many have stopped believing in the Bitcoin I got involved to spread adoption for. Community leaders push the narrative that you should hold and not use your crypto. The entire idea of it being a p2p currency is now controversial. I’m not sure if I have lost faith completely in Bitcoin, but I can tell you that if it was being pushed as a store of value when I discovered it, I wouldn’t have gotten involved at all.

Too impossible for it to happen specially now that recognition and adoption had already been that high which means that it is likely to happen on not to believe with Bitcoin.It might not have that physical form but

we are not aiming for something like that but rather seeing its actual use case. Decentralized? Anonymous? Irreversible? These are things which you cant really see on typical fiat we do have.

The community would be the ones who would really decide whether they do believe or not and as long it does have value then you can say that it is really having that big support.

It's very difficult for people not to believe in bitcoin, only sector that will disregard bitcoin is those that not know the concept of cryptocurrency especially bitcoin, using myself as a reference, bitcoin is something that i believe and i will keep valuing bitcoin provided that people values fiat currency and Gold currency, so majority across the nation trust and believe in bitcoin and value it more than Gold  currency from my observation via how influential both is in the society, so i think we can't equates or compare bitcoin values with Gold values.

But that is not something that spontaneously happens, bitcoin has been changing the minds of people all over the world, many people never thought a project like bitcoin could work but bitcoin has convinced them through its performance and its amazing fundamentals, so the scenario you are describing in which people spontaneously stop believing in bitcoin is not going to happen.

A reason must exist for such a thing to happen, and the only scenarios which could lead people to stop trusting bitcoin will have to do with a failure of the electric grid or the Internet network, and in both of those cases we will probably have more important things to worry about under those scenarios.

So, just leave it, no one forces you to believe in Bitcoin.
ANd let other people who believe in Bitcoin still believe in it.
And when the other people are successful because of Bitcoin, just see them and don't make any noise again.
Everybody knows that there is no physical thing of Bitcoin, different from gold.
But, no physical form doesn't mean no exists. This is the era of technology, man, just think following up the era and you will get in it.

Yes you're right that biitcoin has no physical presence because it wasn't made that way. Bitcoin was made to be a digital currency to help the economy and it has a value due to demand. Just like now you can buy bitcoin via cash and can sell bitcoin into cash.

Fiat currencies are just made by the governments and it is not backed by gold in every single country. And you trust the fiat currencies because the government told you to do so.

That is because people can buy any satoshi they want to think that it is easier to buy bitcoin than gold.
But besides having bitcoin, people will still try to have gold as their reserves because gold still has its popularity among the people and people give a big value as a safe haven for them.
If bitcoin and gold can be a safe haven for people, I think that can change people's lives and have a chance to have a better life in the future.
But people will regret it if they stop believe in bitcoin now.

Well, the OP is just asking a simple question. This is basically addressed to the people who are the hardcore true believers of Bitcoin. If you are going to ask me, there are people who are apologists of Bitcoin, sole supporters of Bitcoin, and those who throw shit at all other coins, even the second placer Ethereum. It's like the OP is asking them what if all of a sudden you stop believing in Bitcoin? Then obviously it only means the cessation of one's cryptocurrency activities.

Everyone will not just stop making use of Bitcoin, I don’t see the possibility of that happening, unless you have plans to use magic to make it happen. Just look at the number of people who are making use of Bitcoin today, so how does this seem possible to you that they will kind of magically lose interest in Bitcoin, all of them, and then quit from it? So that is not going to be possible at all.

But just for fun sake, let's just imagine that everyone loses interest, of course if everyone should lose interest that means the end for Bitcoin Because Bitcoin stands on our faith mostly. So, if people should stop believing in it, then it is not going to continue to function.

Btc never ever have taken a physical appearance but you can literally see the tangible things that can be bought through it. Its been 10 years already and look at the pioneers who hodl since the first day, they already have physical assets as of now for sure. The fact that BTC doesn't have a physical appearance makes the security strong too, it cannot be hack easily, stolen or mob.

In the future, everyone will want to own at least some bit of bitcoin, couple satoshi, and therefore the price of bitcoin will grow, its quantity is limited, and there are a lot of people on the planet. Bitcoin is an intangible thing that has value despite not being backed up by gold. Because foremost, bitcoin is a decentralized asset, hence, there's no way it would be backed up by anything such as gold. Not being backed up by gold nor not having a physical appearance doesn't necessarily mean bitcoin will have no value. It doesn't work like that. Bitcoin can stand on its own and can show its full potential as long as there is market demand. The market is the one that controls the price movement of bitcoin, not gold, not the government. In addition, not every country has equivalent gold to their fiat money. I think you're just assuming things without counterchecking it on the internet.

If you'll compare bitcoin to fiat money, you'll really see the big difference between the two. Bitcoin is scarce and decentralized. Meaning it has a very limited supply and isn't controlled nor manipulated by anyone. Unlike that of fiat that can be printed excessively depending on the needs and of the country or whenever it may deem necessary by the state. Adding the fact that the money circulation and printed is always manipulated by the government which makes it more prone to inflation.

To answer if this would happen or not, it's subjective because we all have different perspectives and stances about something. Personally, I won't stop believing in bitcoin because it has proven itself to me numerous times already how reliable it is anytime, anywhere. There are two sides to everything - proposition and opposition. It's just really up to us where we want to side. I would like to be excluded from the narrative of stopping believing in bitcoin though.

When you trust something, it will be very hard for you to remove the trust from it unless something bad will happen.
Same with us who trusts Bitcoin for a long time already so don't add me into that "we" that you are saying :). I will just remove my trust into Bitcoin when it turns out to be a scam and nothing more.

Yup, let them stop belief in bitcoin and they will regret it someday. We believe in bitcoin because bitcoin already helps us survive, especially in this pandemic, so we can still make money and live.

It does not affect bitcoin if some people decide to stop believing because many others will still believe in bitcoin and want to have more bitcoin for their future. But we can not force them to believe because that will be up to them.

I guess the OP's question is not relevant anymore today. You are right, this question may have an impact at the early stage of btc. But today, with what it has achieved in the market, I don't think people will just stop believing for no reason. I am note sure what the future will be but as of the moment, I don't wanna stop believing in bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. It is still effective in me like helps me earn real money. Unstable in what aspect? If you check volatility then bitcoin's price changes every year remain within 15% and the average range is 5-10% only. That is stable as compared to some altcoins which go +/-400% everyday.

Just for the sake of physical bitcoin, I posted in this thread already once about them. They do exist and they are traded as collectible objects in the "Collectibles" section of this forum, but it is indeed a niche group of this forum.

Strange that so many people are interested in physical objects to be able to set a value. You can set a value on anything you want and if other people also agree that the object does carry value it becomes valuable. This is how gold started as a money tender and gradually fiat.

The main idea by OP not about how people get rich or free, but about if (just when something happens), people stop to believe. the actually answer is, Bitcoin is the same as fiat currency, we know fiat currency alone can not have value like the Zimbabwean currency, Bitcoin can also be like that. I dont think the number of people in this world earning from crypto is that significant. Maybe you are thinking like that because majority of the traffic to this forum is from signature campaigns. But this forum is not the entire world. :D

In some communities would be the proper terminology, you cannot make an entire country accept something, that would be wrong - there is a freedom of choice here.

I agree that in some specific countries only there is possibility to spend and use your crypto in day-to-day practices.

Also believing in something is a lot different from speculating on its price. Someone might just be interested in the currency use of bitcoin. This also depends on how local governments are approaching crypto.

It is not a fictional idea. It is a Proof-of-Work, which means that the work done by the miners will be the thing protecting the network.

Whether to believe in bitcoin will usually depend on the individual himself no one is in control here. The individual is able to do everything as his own independent just as crypto markets are easy to get rich with, if you don't have the right knowledge about the market you will be at risk we have to wait patiently and move forward with confidence by investing in bitcoin. It is possible to get a lot of profit through long term investment negative thoughts will hinder you from becoming rich.

If stop believing in Bitcoin their will be a lot problem for some people especially me because I make my money through trading and Bounty. Is from advertisement of coins I am able to feed my self and take of some financial problems. So if  people stop believing in Bitcoin their will be problems for some people because some people daily bread are from there but all depend on your self. out there no more vacancy for jobs.

dont be surprised about that one, many people believe non physical things, and im the one of them.
the first time appearing, hard to believe in bitcoin. this coin be the one and no other rival. as time goes by, people give their courage and being big explosion. its hard to ignore bog presence like this coin, the number make you think twice of you have it.

Bitcoin has no physical, Bitcoin is a digital asset that has a high value so we can benefit from it. Even though Bitcoin is not physical, I have experienced the benefits of Bitcoin and it is real, so I don't think there is any reason not to believe in Bitcoin. Indeed, there are many other investments such as buying physical gold, but I am more interested in Bitcoin because it is easier to store and more profitable than gold. It's all up to you whether you want to believe in Bitcoin or not.

Bitcoin is intangible but has a value like gold and fiat, for those who don't believe in bitcoin because they don't have physicality because they don't understand and understand bitcoin well so it's natural to make them confused.
unless the OP has long been involved and understands bitcoin in its entirety, it will confuse us with the question, because we believe in it and have studied it so well that we are still around today and beyond. because bitcoin can help in all aspects of life especially in finance, freedom etc which is better of all.

Basically, bitcoin was created, there is no physical, only virtual money, and until whenever bitcoin is only in the form of digital gold and virtual money but has value.
if you do not believe in the existence of bitcoin there is no compulsion you continue to survive and believe in bitcoin

because of these forums and communities, there is a foundation of trust. people have known bitcoin for years and I believe there is no reason to lose trust.
when some countries are getting interested in the use of bitcoin and crypto. what is clear is the greater benefits of bitcoin and crypto. We must not close ourselves off from technological developments. if we don't want to be far behind from the fast-growing people thinking about future opportunities.

It is often one address that would certainly makes somebody halt and think almost it for long run. I believe that results of one acting to this notion of losing one conviction in Bitcoin. the vision is to make us become our own bank , no third party ... no physical shit required .. nothing but a value that created by us.
so far the value formed at $60k which it's a huge success , believe it or not bitcoin would just run as it is , pretty simple.

looking for a coin backed by some kind of asset, stable coins are there for that..bitcoin remains bitcoin. In terms of people stopping believing in bitcoin it could mean another cryptocurrency could take its place because cryptos are here to stay, besides the beauty about these cryptocurrencies its the freedom they accord us which could be expressed by change of interest of another king but for now Bitcoin remains our choice and king of digital coins. .

It's funny that some people are still talking about this subject when they know that FIAT is a role, so why does a simple role have value? it has value because people have assigned that value, just as bitcoin has value because people have assigned that value, people are willing to pay for bitcoin, that's simple

There’s no way for me to stop believing about Bitcoin. This is where my life have turned around and saved me from being financially broke. However, you can’t please everybody. There will always be non-believers about Bitcoin, and we just have to respect their opinion.

We can't blame such kind of thinking as not all were able to understand but instead of learning and knowing about Bitcoin more, they even just insist it is only worthless and has no value like gold/fiat. Should a need to give them some light in order to open their eyes and see how it gives benefits to us, to the community? Well, if that is really a need, I think I'm going to do that but somehow, not all are open-minded and have nothing to do with these people but to let them go and let them keep their negative thoughts while we are enjoying the market.

I thought: what is faith in bitcoin? From a practical point of view, this is the belief that it will grow in price for a long time to come. Everything will end someday. And the price rise of bitcoin as well. People will then have no material incentive to hold bitcoins. What will happen to the price of bitcoin then? The question is interesting. And I probably know the answer to it.

If i make ask you, is everything you believed existed or happened occur in your presence? Yet you don't see bit believe, if someone send you coin through your wallet address and you received it, make used of a p2p exchange to have the unit of your token converted into fiat currency, do you really believe it worked and real? Bitcoin is a virtual currency have all characteristics of monetary value else that its virtual and volatile.

If we can be in an era of virtual currency whereby people make use of it and nearly into the features of metaverse which is as at now under research and developmental stage, yet we are moving gradually in technological advancement unlike where we've started. Bitcoin has come to stay and any other cryptocurrency still have same surviving opportunity to be worth recommending in later future.

I understand that the factor of faith in our time is of great importance, but since the market has already been formed and has been developing for a long time, I don’t think that faith is now more important here than the investment strategies of funds and large players (holders of thousands or tens of thousands of bitcoins). Especially recently, more and more news about the adoption of cryptocurrency, its legalization and regulation by national governments - gives a new impetus to the entire industry. I believe that faith is not so important today! :)

Bitcoin is a decentralized currency that came to stay to eliminate fear and delay in our daily transaction. Those that understood what bitcoin is about will not have any negative things about bitcoin than to improve their  believe on decentralized currency. Some country that rejected bitcoin some years ago because they didn't know the value of bitcoin and how government can use bitcoin to reduce unemployment in the community are seriously struggle with their economy.

Bitcoin has physical value to humanity because you can see bitcoin and feel it by using it to buy whatever you want to buy in the community. Many people now prefer to invest on bitcoin than gold because of the fast and secure in transaction.

It`s like stepping back to stone age bro  ;). We are heading towards digital world where everything is going to be digitalized.

Well I`m adding some additional information Gold standard is no longer acceptable in our society. in 1971 Gold Standard`s end its journey when 'United States" President Richard Nixon announced that the United States would no longer convert dollars to gold at fixed value, thua comletely abandoning the gold standart.

If you talk about Bitcoin well its similar to gold. You can also mine bitcoin like gold. there`s just a simple visible diference is it has no physical form. I think using Fiat currency there`s a possibility to have Infliantion. But as I talked bitcoin it`s similar to gold I dont think this same go for bitcoin as well.

That`s all. I think no one willing to stop believing on bitcoin. I think day by say more people acknowledging bitcoin day by day  :D
