Title: Would you quit Bitcoin if a shitcoin like Ethereum surpassed it?
Post by: takuma sato on October 12, 2021, 06:41:55 PM
There is a lot of shilling lately (again) with "the flippening" event happening. Ethereum has created a new market which is basically 99% scam tokens, rugpulls, pump and dumps and NFTs which are probably used for money laundering. Anyway, the thing is, there is definitely if a demand for all of that, even if it's all based on a platform that's not decentralized.

So to the point: Would you quit if a centralized shitcoin managed to surpass Bitcoin in marketcap? At that point it would be clear that entire space is a joke. Bitcoin would still march on as usual, but it would be just sad to see people putting their money on shitcoins rather than on the only actually decentralized blockchain worth anything.

I will still be using Bitcoin... no matter if any other coins surpass it...because it has the most hashing power backing it and for that reason it is the most secure coin.... and it has the biggest merchant and retail network accepting it as a payment option.

Many people like the Roger Ver types.... have tried their best to replace Bitcoin as the "King of Cryptos" and they failed miserably... because people are smarter than they think.

Bitcoin is on top.... because it is backed by people who can spot bullshit Alt coins and wannabe Bitcoins.  ;D

Posing this question makes me believe you're all in in bitcoin for the profit. If that's so, then you should quit and move to Ethereum, especially if you want less risk and imagine that the whole world will follow towards.

But, in case you don't use bitcoin for increasing your purchasing power only, and agree somewhat to the ideology of an innovative payment system which is separated from a government, then you ought to stay. That's the way you see things, man. An increased market cap asset shouldn't change your sociopolitical beliefs.

No, I wouldn't move to Ethereum if it ever surpassed bitcoin, because it does not support what bitcoin does.

what i don't agree with his title is that his labeling eth as shitcoin, because the platform itself is not. just unfortunate that a lot of scammers created their own tokens under eth network. wherein, this prob will also be experienced by other networks like bsc, matic, or dot very soon. scammers will always find a way how to penetrate a good network.
but going back to the question, i don't think, i'll quit btc. this has been established as the top coin among these thousands alts. and i dont think it will change in the next coming years.

You have to ask the reason why are people putting their money into shitcoins, and that is because they want to get rich quick, so as long as there is a trend where they are able to make profit they will always follow the money line, and for a coin to surpass bitcoin it would take some really insane technology that changes the whole world, because bitcoin has not reached this point in a day, so bitcoin is going to stay relevant and profitable for a long time so people will always follow it and invest in it.

Depends on how the community reacts because seeing bitcoin to be overtaken with something else would really be giving out that kind of impression on where trust and confidence towards it had
really been decreased.

You wouldnt able to call a shit coin on something that had overtaken Bitcoin on the top spot even though we do really love and support Bitcoin that much but its impossible that thing
havent really been a good coin because it wont really reach out  that  peak spot if its totally shit.

For me then i would still make use of Bitcoin but going into that top coin isnt a bad idea either. It does depend if we are already on the actual situation.

Why should I? They don't even quit so there's no sense of quitting even if there's a new altcoin that will surpass it. The logic is that they do not even care that bitcoin is at the top right now and they keep on investing into different altcoins. There are those investors that see a lot from those random altcoins and don't protect themselves through buying bitcoin as part of their investments. I'll still use and buy bitcoin no matter what.

I don't think so. Some altcoin may surpass bitcoin in terms of market volume and activity, but it doesn't remove bitcoin's utility and its status as the first cryptocurrency. Though on a real world scenario, it will be quite hard for ethereum or any altcoin for that matter to get ahead of bitcoin in terms of market volume and usage, but it is still quite possible. Should that happen, it will be hard to sway a lot of people, most especially huge companies who have huge stakes on bitcoin, to switch over to a new altcoin.

Arguably the cumulative value of the Ethereum ecosystem, along with the ETH market cap itself, might actually already surpass the BTC market cap if you extrapolate its valuation liberally. A lot of it is junk and will collapse under its own weight, but no I wouldn't stop using BTC just because something is "worth" more than it.

What would make me stop using btc is

- tx fees render it non-competitive with other currency options
- it becomes less accepted as a method of payment
- Bitcoin maxis finally irritated the last hell out of me (j/k, they already did that and I still use it)
- oh almost forgot, SHA-256 is cracked by quantum computing or what have you

I don't care about what happens to other coin's markets, I only care about fundamentals. If ETH is surpassing Bitcoin purely because of some new useless smart contract hype like DeFi or NFT, that's not the reason to worry, because those things are like beanie babies, they come and go, it's not something sustainable. But if ETH will somehow get better scalability, better security and actually useful features and this will cause the flippening, then I might consider flipping too. But I don't see it happening anytime soon.

There are already LOTS of centralized shitcoins that have a larger Market Cap than Bitcoin. Here's a few examples:
U.S. Dollar
Yuan
Euro
Yen

The existence of these has not caused me to abandon Bitcoin, why would the existence of any others.  There will always be fools and gullible people in the world.  There will always be people that chase fads.  Why should their existence change how I run my life?

First of all, I don't think of Ethereum as shitcoin, because if we use that name for something like Ethereum, word looses it's real meaning. And no, I don't care if Ethereum ever surpasses Bitcoin in terms of market cap, as for me it will stay my main hold.

The possibility is very small if Ethereum can surpass Bitcoin.
But, Both Bitcoin and Ethereum are worthy cryptocurrencies, none of these two is shitcoin.
I believe that each has their own special things that we can consider to hold.
Holding both is what I am now and I am sure many or most people doing right now. So no matter what, Bitcoin still becomes the first (at least for me)

Bitcoin's current most popular use cases are holding it and using it to buy altcoins.  If an altcoin were to surpass Bitcoin in market cap and also provide useful functionality, Bitcoin would find itself in a position where it's worth is derived strictly from the greater fool theory or suboptimal off-chain networks.  At that point it would be very difficult to make the investment case for Bitcoin and the entire market would be thrown in turmoil.  I'm not foolish enough to think Bitcoin can keep promoting itself through toxic maximalism and maintain it's lead in the crypto space, but I am experienced enough to know Wall Street and governments now pumping it will make the ship pretty large to turn, so it will likely be longer than expected before Bitcoin is lumped in with the rest of cryptocurrencies and it's valuation is reflected as such.

First off, comparing market capitalisations is generally a waste of time for the most part.  But more to the point, if something did somehow surpass Bitcoin's, that's not a weakness with Bitcoin.  That would be evidence of a weakness in the brains of the masses.  People do dumb shit all the time.  No one can prevent that.  I witness collective economic insanity on a daily basis, but I'll always try to limit the influence that has on how I live my life.  And Bitcoin is a part of how I achieve that.

There's no rational reason why any other coin should surpass Bitcoin at this stage, since none of them are close to matching Bitcoin's utility and robustness.  And in the unlikely event one did, that doesn't reduce Bitcoin's utility or robustness.

I would quit Bitcoin for Litecoin Cash right now.
That doesn't mean that I don't like Bitcoin, it's just more opportunity in LCC right now, in my opinion.

Do you honestly believe that has the potential for long-term adoption, or is it just another get-rich-quick scheme?

I might have been with you, up to the point of "... Litecoin ..."

To me LTC is a superior form of currency over BTC because it is much quicker and faster to send. If I wanted to move a large amount of wealth, I would probably do it with BTC, however. Still, Bitcoin's expensiveness doesn't preclude it from usability, obviously; it simply remains the gold standard against which all other crypto is measured.

The complete each other very well, there is no fight between.

It's easy to assume but technically speaking, this is impossible to happen.  No one will surpass the Bitcoin market cap when we talked about cryptocurrency, if that happens that Bitcoin will reduce the market cap, it's possible that the entire market will drop the market cap too.

People are looking for a short-term investment that has a quick return or just what above said, it's just a get-rich-quick scheme.  They want to ride the massive hype hoping to earn easily but it's not truly an asset that can you store in a long run.

I understand that you keep promoting this coin but I think how come it will complete, it's forked to LTC.

I think ethereum may have all the chances to replace bitcoin in the future but that doesn't affect bitcoin at all. I still stand for bitcoin because i know it certainly has a great future ahead which is an edge from those altcoins. And if ever ethereum will definitely take the lead, the whole crypto market will be a lot more different. Because in my long years staying here in the crypto market, i only see bitcoin as the main driving force and if bitcoin goes down, the whole crypto market will shake off and collapse. That's how bitcoin works.

People would make out decisions depending on the current condition that they are seeing and if they do saw that majority or most of the community will flip out then majority of people will.
We could eventually spot out which things are on hype or in trend which neither cant be sustainable or good for long term and it all dictated by the community demand itself.
If there would be sudden change up of minds or demand then normally people would go on where the herd is going. It is just impossible for you to resist or wont mind.

Most coins, but not Litecoin Cash, LCC has good attributes like SHA-256 and is accepted by a lot of miners. Look at the hashrate.

It revolves around a question of whether bitcoin can be improved upon. Do we have talented software engineers and designers who can make a better version of what Satoshi made.

Things are looking bad at the moment. It doesn't seem as if there's anyone who is interested in filling the vacuum left behind by Satoshi.

Its been said the 2008 economic crisis was one motivation behind Satoshi creating bitcoin. I no longer see people who are upset over the 2008 crisis or economic conditions in general. Its possible motives behind creating bitcoin no longer exist in the public consciousness. People have come to accept economic crisis, downtrends and instability as being normal and ordinary parts of daily life.

The void left behind by Satoshi might never be filled, until people are angry about the current state of finance and the economy. If that day ever comes.

I am sure that you mean the tokens that use the Ethereum platform or ERC20 tokens. For me, the Ethereum coin is not shitcoin. But some ERC20 tokens in the Ethereum platform are shitcoins (so do some of the BSC tokens).

We also notice how popular NFTs and new types of coins are right now. Many people are increasingly coming to the crypto world because of the hype tokens happening these days. And this will be never-ending because there will be always something hype and attracting many people.

But, popularity will not defeat the trust and value of Bitcoin. I personally don't believe Ethereum moreover the ERC tokens will even surpass Bitcoin

I think what OP wants to say here is the ecosystem, we all know Bitcoin and Ethereum ecosystems are purely different and created for different purposes.
This kind of comparison is useless for me, it just doesn't make sense, if you really know how Bitcoin and Ethereum works, you will know.

The author clearly doesn't know what he is talking about and he thinks every cryptocurrency except bitcoin is shitcoins. If we look at the price of the two cryptocurrencies that are being compared, they are not even close to each other is a big difference it's like a bar of gold and a bar of silver. Most of the time those altcoins who are below bitcoins only raise their price when the bitcoin price continues to rise but if it falls, you will also see them falling together.

I wouldn't quit. Why would I? What then if Ethereum surpassed Bitcoin? Does that make Bitcoin inferior? Of course, not!

Anyway, do you think majority of the people care about putting their money on what you call shitcoins? You have to remember that of the $2.3 trillion cryptocurrency market cap, at least $1.2 trillion of it is in altcoins. So I don't think majority of the people are putting primary consideration to the fact that Bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency which has a truly decentralized blockchain. Many of them are looking at crypto as an investment market. There is no other reason why the likes of Dogecoin and Shiba Inu are occupying top spots and have billions in market cap.

I don't think many users here will care about marketcap particularly the new ones in crypto. But if the flippening will really happen because of the new developments on smart contract tokens, it will still not make people's interest in BTC lose because it's the technology of BTC and the price of it that they are after.
ETH is $3,300 and BTC is $57K, if ETH surpasses BTC's cap, its price will still not be more than $57K.

What do you think... seriously Ethereum or any other coin will surpass Bitcoin? In the past, Eth had a race against Bitcoin on the market cap.. but still, Bitcoin couldn't be passed. I'm sure everyone will tend to think the same, Bitcoin will not be passed, all its advantages are not easily forgotten or be passed by any other coins that are only like a son.

Is it worth to risk your hard-earned money to a centralized shitcoin? Regardless if it already surpassed bitcoin marketcap, I will not switch. BTW eth is not a shitcoin however tokens built under eth network can be labelled as shitcoins as most of them has no real use cases.

Anyway even bitcoin is surpassed by other coins it doesnt mean btc will become obsolete especially at this point wherein some countries are already adopt btc and set is a legal tender.

You are wrong calling Ethereum shitcoin. It is the number two on the crypto market and can rightfully be called a mainstream cryptocurrency. Without it, it will be too boring on crypto market, as Bitcoin doesn't support different smart-contracts and it means no defi-projects or other tokens apart from Bitcoin and its forks. What is more, Ethereum is developing now as opposed to Bitcoin, so I will not be surprised if it surpasses Bitcoin one day.

I do not want to quit crypto if a shitcoin like ethereum surpasses bitcoin. I do not think that shitcoin can surpass bitcoin because if that happens, it can change crypto forever. People are putting their money in shitcoins because they want to make more money besides making money from bitcoin and that is normal to see some people do that. Shitcoin can somehow help us make additional profit, but it is still hard to select which coin can give us a big profit.

Something like that is never going to happen, don't get your hopes up :D

A shitcoin like Ethereum that has no use cases and only relies on pump and dumps has an expiration date when it starts dying, it is starting to show already since for the past 4 years it has been dumping consistantly from 0.15 down to 0.06 and despite all the pump attempts it has not been able to go back up again.

On top of that the basic supply and demand law prevents a shitcoin with unlimited supply and a current circulating supply 117 million (bitcoin has 18 million!!!) from growing big.

Your other question is already answered. People aren't in bitcoin because of its market capitalization to exit if some shitcoin surpassed it (which has happened in the past by the way with altcoins that were pumped so much that surpassed bitcoin's market cap but then they died eventually).
Day traders and pump and dumpers don't give a damn about any of this either, BTC, ETH, XYZ don't make a difference to them.

Even if those NFTs shits created to earn fast money passes bitcoin I wont blink an eye because they are hyped pump and dumps, they won't last and in a long run wouldn't be sustained by their developers, I had set my own goal that is  to rely or depend solely on decentralized platform only and bitcoin had really taken care of it, though every crypto enthusiast or investors has their own choice but I believe majority will stick to the popular, dependable and most trusted decentralized feature platform.

Bitcoin will always gained the highest number of supporters as what it is should be, rather than focusing more on shitcoins that will only be valuable once they are hyped but after that, they all return to their low valued positions. So if out of an unexpected predictions, ethereum will surpass bitcoin, then i think it will not be a big deal for us since we know from the start that we only go for the best and most profitable coin. Yes, we have our own choices based from own predictions, but i know in the long run bitcoin will still be the top choice of the crypto community no matter what the circumstances may bring.

Once Shitcoins overtake Bitcoin then that means this market is ruined and why should we still hang on it when this is not trustworthy anymore?
i will instead go back to Fiat/Banking and leave this currencies forever as it is not worth it.
Well, crypto market will be very different by then and maybe lot of people will eventually shift into another investments that are also promising as bitcoin. Although ethereum is next to bitcoin, but looking at their prices it could mean the gap is too far from one another. And ethereum has different usage with bitcoin so if ethereum surpasses bitcoin in the rank position, i think it will never be an issue. Bitcoin enthusiasts will still focus on bitcoin because its the coin they believe that has the highest potentials compared to altcoins and other shitcoins.

However, what we have is only speculation and i think its too far way from becoming it possible.

no, i will still choose bitcoin even if bitcoin is no longer the biggest coin. even though the top marketcap will be filled by shitcoins, bitcoin will be your first choice. nothing can replace bitcoin, even if it is a shitcoin of great value. enough discussion like this, because everyone will definitely still choose bitcoin for whatever reason.
I have a different view on this assumption, shitcoin is not a good product but don't know by randomness or capacity, it has surpassed bitcoin, that generalizes that bitcoin at this point has barely belonged to the top tier in terms of status nor capitalization and like a pioneer, when it is no longer capable, the crypto market will also have a radical downward graph. Perhaps when the explanation comes here, we don't need to discuss the choice further, there are not many flavors that can be experienced, so it can be said that this assumption is not true in all cases, giving up bitcoin is almost giving up the original source

Bitcoin is on top.... because it is backed by people who can spot bullshit Alt coins and wannabe Bitcoins.  ;D

Bitcoin will always be above altcoins because altcoins are based on the framework built by Bitcoin. We can see that altcoins and bitcoins have similar features so there are quite a few variations of this digital currency.
Bitcoin is the first crypto currency created from altcoins so no one can match bitcoin, if there is an altcoin that has a more expensive price than bitcoin but the altcoin will not last long one day the altcoin will experience a very deep price decline and hard to get back up.

Bitcoin has a niche that could not be filled by any other cryptocurrency in the market even if they tried to. Although I would like to make the distinction that Ethereum is no shitcoin as what the title of this thread suggests. The coin has its use-case and frankly enough without ETH we wouldn't be able to enjoy most of the stuff we have right now as cryptocurrency enthusiasts since most projects run on the Ethereum network now, while bitcoin remained being a store-of-value. Still with that said I could see people still choosing to invest on bitcoin even if in the future something supersedes it.
First of all, I don't think that Ethereum is one of the shitcoins. It has even the potential to be a more powerful cryptocurrency than Bitcoin in the future. Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency in the market which makes it the most important and known one in the market. So, I wouldn't quit Bitcoin of course just because Ethereum surpassed it. I would still continue to accumulate it. But I would care about the number one crypto more too.
It has the potential and has shown what it could really do. Honestly the only thing that leaves a bad taste on my mouth about the Ethereum network is the fact that it runs on proof-of-work which makes transaction fees high and speeds slow at times, but other than that I respect the coin because it has opened a lot of opportunities for projects in the cryptocurrency world to come henceforth. NFTs, DeFi, even Metaverse could potentially be housed in the Ethereum blockchain, so I don't think it really is a shitcoin, because shitcoin has no use-case.

If there would be some flippening then for sure people would really do on what they are seeing on the market which they would really go into majorities decision because we know that whenever something new that do happen into this market then its just normal that people will follow.

If ever that bitcoin had been overtaken then that would really be an unsure thing on what would be heading next but for sure there would be major changes on this market behavior.

What happens in altcoin will have no impact on bitcoin users. that's what I believe. something that is trending in crypto, as you call . nft games. stake. will not have any impact on bitcoin. it is they who will later follow bitcoin and will depending on bitcoin.

Exactly! I was gonna say sth similar. How does the price of Bitcoin affect its code? Bitcoin isn't here for a competition of who is worth more (monetarily). Bitcoin is all about the code! The security it brings you, The privacy, etc. And for this for this reason, you cannot compare it with other currencies (crypto or not).

Bitcoin has its own goal so it does not exist to compete other crypto coins or let's just say even to replace fiat. Having it as a legalized currency is a big achievement already.

However, if we think of altcoins like ethereum replacing bitcoin, i think the rate would be 5/10 because their own prices are very much apart. But if its really bound to happen in the future, then we can do nothing about it. I will still prioritize bitcoin because i know how promising it is and it is the only coin where i can put my hard earned money and expect a very huge ROI. Not like altcoins, they can easily pump when hyped, and when its done, their prices will mostly stay in lower values compared to bitcoin.

My point is that we look beyond the prices! I do like money too but It isn't always about money. Aside the volatility which most people take advantage of, there are other features that makes it way better than Alts. Besides, no matter which Altcoin that wants to compete, you can't compete with the maker! :P

1. Bitcoin always be the first and our foundation. Bitcoin introduce us about new revolution of Financial transparency, decentralized concept and democratic practical in financial sectors. Ofc, many people have a trust with bitcoin even the price overtake by another cryptocurrency. Trust affected all things.

2. I don't agree about Ethereum basically call shitcoin. I think you refer to ERC-20 platform who produce many tokens and some of them be scam and nothing have value in the future. we can't call shitcoin if many people trust it, even the purpose or projection is totally shit or no purpose, but people still trust or gain profit from there (See Dogecoin). Totally unfair if you call a shitcoin born because of part of trading activity. Can we step on to learn from another point of view like what kind of decentralized concept it use? or Purpose of the project. Ethereum project is clear purpose, founder can detect right now and we can't call Ethereum is shitcoin.

3. You can disagree about NFT's or other new features. It depends from what kind of your activity regarding cryptocurrency topics you like. But 1 of Cryptocurrency concept is Decentralized and if there's any platform of Tokens or Crypto used Centralized, you can call it Digital-Currency.

No I'm not instead i will accumulate more and will take this as advantage as the price will surge down so low and i will be in discounted value.

after this surpassing Bitcoin will experience some fall  but eventually recover and may climb more than what it has when being surpassed.
remember that Shitcoin has no place in this area but just a pumping material.

If ever this near impossible situation occurs, It will be completely unwise and a show of no professionalism to just dump/quit all bitcoins that I have been gathering and keeping for a long time just like that especially when i know that the crypto market is unpredictable and unstable. As long as volatility remains, an experienced crypto user knows that prices always fluctuate and to just follow after numbers without proper analysis is very unsafe for their portfolio.

It's being used for money laundering definitely.
Those NFTs are useless and there's this NFT of money worth over 30ETHs, I saw it on a streamer's live stream.

What this means is to show that something's worthy and will be useful in the future and people will follow that after some rich people start accepting it, and we know the influence rich have.

Quitting a coin would mean selling my holdings. I'm not concerned with ETH surpassing BTC in a flippening event as BTC still remains deflationary. Fixed supply. I will continue to hold and stack when the opportunity arises.

I don't have enough time to dedicate to the markets or enough knowledge to trade effectively. I'm more danger to myself, like I suspect the vast majority of people.

Holding and not getting carried away with the crazy bull runs or bear markets is key.

Ethereum has surpassed bitcoin marketcap before several times but just temporary, i means ethereum has very strong use case and ethereum network is strong also moreover there are a lot of upcoming features from them and it's still developing.
For me in terms of usability, ethereum has more than bitcoin itself. Bitcoin become the biggest marketcap because it's the pioneer of cryptocurrency and it's the first crypto founded, that's why people are more known with bitcoin compared to other coins.

Bitcoin has high popularity and is in great demand by investors worldwide and now institutional investors have started to enter the cryptocurrency market, so bitcoin is unlikely to be chased by other coins even though it has a second rank. Investors only turn to fiat money during transitions when the market starts to peak and starts to fall and after that they return to adopting bitcoin when the market has started to stabilize.

I ain’t going anywhere because crypto changed my life no matter what the outcome of BTC is even if someone surpasses it in the future. But in reality, BTC can’t be surpassed as the widely adopted cryptocurrency in the world.

I think what the OP said is too pessimistic because it is not a reason for someone to switch from one to another in the crypto and blockchain world but every trader has their own way and picture in choosing which one they will buy because in essence they are looking for profit not a problem the price of one is defeated by the other

LOL, eth as shitcoin, what a funny sentence.
one thing you need to know buddy, even since bitcoin is still cheap, people have stood up for it. I don't care what coin will beat bitcoin going forward, I will still say that it is still one of the best investments out there today. I support the development of this technology. other than that, ethereum is the best coin after bitcoin. it's not shitcoin.

It's very strange if anyone thinks Ethereum is a shitcoin, because Ethereum is the best altcoins. This means that Ethereum is the best choice for
investment after Bitcoin, maybe people who say Ethereum shitcoin, is he an Ethereum hater or is he getting the wrong information about Ethereum.
Therefore, if we want to learn about crypto, we must look for a trusted source, so we don't get misleading information. Then my advice is never to
leave Bitcoin for other coins, because after all Bitcoin is the best coin for investment until now, even Bitcoin has always dominated the market.
I will never leave Bitcoin, even though there are other coins that can provide greater profits. Because for me Bitcoin has a bright future and I believe
long-term investment in Bitcoin can provide big profits.

BTC is a cryptocurrency why hold  sentimental values over a digital currency , obviously for a smart trader if he sees profit in some other coin he might go for it
logically speaking if BTC dies (assuming) its no point holding them better to sell them off , now here if just a currency overvalues BTC we can just make profit out of it , in my personal opinion HOLD if you think BTC will bounce back or invest in other coin , plus ETH is not shit dude it was and still is  the second best cryptocurrency out there  ;)

and I'm sure nothing will go beyond BTC. even ETH with such a huge development will stay below BTC.
you talk if BTC dies. then you will move and sell it. when you realize that your BTC will be worthless and no one will buy it.
Likewise, if BTC dies, you will see all crypto markets will be disrupted. even that could be a very big downfall.

Ethereum has created a new market which is basically 99% scam tokens, rugpulls, pump and dumps and NFTs which are probably used for money laundering.
My sincere question to you would be, "how did you arrive at that conclusion?" I guess you're referring to the ETH smart contract (the ERC) that's used by other projects and I don't see how it's ETH's fault if such projects that use its smart contract turned scam. It's the same thing that should happen to projects on the Binance Smart Contract, if that's the case then. And then on Matic, Solana, Fathom etc.

Anyway, the thing is, there is definitely if a demand for all of that, even if it's all based on a platform that's not decentralized.
Whatever that meant, I suspect I ain't the only one who didn't understand what OP was struggling to say there. Perhaps, they could rephrase it.

His question is simple, if the ETH market capital surpasses BTCitcoin's he would consider the cryptocurrency space as a joke as everyone is after pump and dump coins rather than looking for decentralized coin like BTCitcoin.

He got a point in that aspect, the transaction fees for ETH is really high and some of the NFT projects uses ETH and everyone is paying $40 to $50 per transaction and yet the price of ETH is rallying which does not make any sense.

Bitcoin would still march on as usual, but it would be just sad to see people putting their money on shitcoins rather than on the only actually decentralized blockchain worth anything.

It's actually hilarious to see someone get so twisted up that another cryptocurrency might one day take the crown of Bitcoin. It is actually almost inevitable that another cryptocurrency will unseat Bitcoin because the sheer low number of coins - a max of 21 million (some of which are being lost all the time) is a great restriction and will over time make it harder to use as an effective currency. It'll be great for the current holders but people will simply move elsewhere, even if it's just a psychological thing - people would prefer 1,000 units of a stable currency than 0.0001 units of a slowly increasing currency. There is enough room in the market for lots of people to get richer, so don't fret over other coins creating competition.

I wouldn't quit because I trust in bitcoin's potential on long run. Even though it becomes obsolete at some point, it will still carry value for collectors as rarity because bitcoin is scarce, limited and the only original crypto currency among all.

At same time it doesn't mean ethereum is a shitcoin. It has the status we see nowadays for a reason and after so many years of existence, side by side with bitcoin, it's not possible to say eth's success is only due to greedy pump/dump speculative or scam schemes. There are legit professionals developing their projects through eth platform and trying to improve it even more. If ethereum were all about hype, speculation and scams it would be already dead by now and replaced by another crypto currency.

Litecoin Cash is the brother of Litecoin.
The complete each other very well, there is no fight between.
Look at the attributes, whitepapers and you will unterstand with time.

Is it really that you're calling ETH  shitcoin while you're bragging about litecoin cash?

let the community judge:

Ethereum: second in the coinmarketcap, undisputed

Litecoin Cash: is at position 846  ;D

the real shitcoin Is Litecoin cash is a cheap copy of litecoin that is also a copy of bitcoin, at least ETH is something original, and we need to value that.

Why would I quit? I love both of them even if it means ETH surpassed BTC in market capitalization, etc., (of course ETH is my major holding for now). Bitcoin is the reason why altcoins like ETH are born as it is the mother of all cryptocurrencies worldwide.

I ain’t going anywhere because crypto changed my life no matter what the outcome of BTC is even if someone surpasses it in the future. But in reality, BTC can’t be surpassed as the widely adopted cryptocurrency in the world.
Good decision and I will do the same as you.
Though we have many conclusions that Ethereum will surpass Bitcoin but the fact it is not. In the market, the Bitcoin price movement will always be must follow by other cryptos. When Bitcoin price moving up all market cap altcoins will increase too and Ethereum for me is not a shitcoin, it has a good potential coin that is next to Bitcoin but it is impossible for Ethereum surpass Bitcoin, both supported by the community.

This is not something that is worth worrying about all because that flippening will never happen at all and they are just in the imagination of people who hate Bitcoin. As for me, I love Bitcoin and Ethereum and there is no need to choose between the two as we can surely use both in our cryptocurrency experience. As of now, Ethereum is still suffering from the incredible gas fees problem and we are looking to its normalization where we can send any token just worth $1- to an exchange because the cost of doing so is just $.10 or even less. With Bitcoin, there will be countries that will recognize it so its is already entering another era of adoption where even common people who are not really into cryptocurrency will be using it just like a normal fiat money.

But considering the thought that if ever ETH will surpass bitcoin I would still choose to hold bitcoin because I do believe that even if the price will drastically fall down time will come that it will be back to pump again like it is always happen. Above all token bitcoin is the most worthy to invest with in my own opinion.

There's no "choose A and dump B" type of situation in the cryptocurrency world.
Most Bitcoiners have no problem investing in altcoins, tokens,NFTs,etc. while keeping their BTC.
Choosing a particular altcoin/shitcoin or NFT to invest doesn't mean that every guy investing in the shitcoin would dump all his Bitcoins.
I would never invest in shitcoins,it doesn't matter if there's a possibility for a 10000% price pump of a shitcoin,I would never buy such coin.I wouldn't touch it with a 10 meter long stick.
I see that you are a little bit salty about this new Ethereum marketplace.I wonder why? ;D
Were you scammed by some altcoin/ICO token projects in the past,OP?

Also its not a loss for anyone if you decide to do so since its your loss if you totally quit bitcoin if that scenario happen. But this is long way to go for ETH and they need to seek more and more demands before that one happen but for now maybe we can't see that since many are into bitcoin since this is the one adopted and chosen to be a legal tender on 1 country so for sure bitcoin will never go vanish if that one is your concern here.

Of course this will be difficult because in the last year a lot of shitcoins who want to surpass bitcoin but all failed to happen, because we have to know the power of bitcoin is so big that it is very difficult to drop by shitcoin, if later ethreum can surpass bitcoin then I remain in bitcoin because I have a strong reason in holding bitcoin, Currently shitcoin is no longer following the flow of bitcoin so the price increase is very slow at a time when bitcoin is increasing, and many investors who hold shitcoin feel strange with the current market movements, and I am sure shitcoin will not be able to surpass bitcoin.

You mean, Ethereum will overtake bitcoin at some point? I really don't believe in this naivety, even if ETH does move to POS in the near future and that process could generate a mass stake pump into the dump. I believe with the upcoming taproot development, bitcoin will get even stronger support. ETH is not a reason to give up bitcoin. Shitcoin is not wrong but it does not have to be imo and fomo to create excessive damage hype.
ETH and BNB are moving closer to concentration. Lol

Absolutely no need to quit Bitcoin if Ethereum goes surpass it, because as long as Bitcoin can still generate profit I will continue to invest in Bitcoin.
Anyways I doubt Ethereum is capable of surpassing Bitcoin, because from the time Bitcoin entered the market until now, Bitcoin has always been

but always ends in failure. This means that Bitcoin is too strong to beat, so my advice is never to think about quitting Bitcoin.

I don't think ETH as a shit coin. But if ever eth surpassed bitcoin I see no reason quitting bitcoin. Why would I ? Surpassing bitcoin does not mean that bitcoin is useless already and I don't think it will last long. On the other hand just because eth surpass it, it is not enough reason to quit. Crypto is very unstable and we do not know what will happened next but knowing how good bitcoin is, it is possible to take its place as number one again.

I don't think ETH will ever surpass bitcoin, It might reach a close market cap but it's going to remain under which Bitcoin has.

There had been people saying the same about Ripple and now you can check those people in Reddit XRP groups.
But they're not limited to only Reddit, these people are trying to create XRP hype on youtube also.

In the case that happened I will keep holding my bitcoin no matter what, however I will not deny that it will be incredibly disappointing to see this happening, however as unlikely as it may seem I cannot deny there is a chance that happens.

After all if people are still investing in all kind of shady projects even after the huge amount of icos that we saw getting millions of dollars just by copy and pasting a white paper and then exit scam their investors just a few years ago then I do not know what is it going to take for those investors to stop putting money in those scams.

Yeah, keep on believing into something that is almost impossible and I find this question as a  joke. Simply because considering how far the price gap of each other and the fact that most altcoins follow the trend of Bitcoin they literally just going to fall too if Bitcoin fall that's just it.

And who would quit that easily just because another coin surpasses your favorite coin? Besides, it's not gonna happen, trust me. No matter how much money you throw into the shitcoin, it won't and the best example is the doge coin.

1. Is another name for Altcoins Shitcoins?
2. What attributes will a coin posses to be called a shit coin?
I believe it is not right to call the second leading cryptocurrency a shit coin.
Maybe, some shit coins are emanating from Eth network, but that doesn't mean that Eth it's self is a shit coin.

Bitcoin is the king. Any Altcoins rising above Bitcoin is heading to destruction. So, assuming btc is not an open source protocol, I would have believed that your assumption will happen one day. But nil, it's not gonna happen anyday.

The fee of it is even higher than BTC which was the opposite before. Waiting for the next upgrades that they'll deploy to its network unlike bitcoin, it's been calm and lesser fee these days.

You couldnt tell because everything would really be unpredictable and there's no way that we could really make out some conclusions on how this market do ends up because ETH is just ranked 2 and we've seen that

dominance back in the past is almost really close to each other which people on time had already presumed that probability but well its too early to say but we cant really remove that kind of possibility.

Everything matters with the demand in the end because lots of people do believe that bitcoin would be number 1 in more years to come.

One thing I am sure of it,is no coin will ever surpass Bitcoin. For me all other coins have their creator known so there is some "sort of way" to impact his/their choices in the development of that coin. One of the reason Bitcoin is so high, right now near the all time high at 64.000 dollars is that we know only the pseudonym of the creator which is "Satoshi Nakamoto" and I find it very hard to impact the development of Bitcoin. Also most of the shops that accept cryptos except big casinos usually only accept Bitcoin as a payment form which for me is another reason that Bitcoin will never be surpassed by any other crypto.I of course would never quit Bitcoin.

ETH isn't shitcoin, it's second only to bitcoin. If you say it is shitcoin there will never be a chance to surpass bitcoin. How can a shitcoin survive and replace the king? In the past 12 years, many shitcoins have been created and claimed to replace bitcoin but we have yet to see a single shitcoin that does it instead bitcoin is being accepted in many countries and becoming legal tender. This is something that even ETH has not been able to achieve, so there is no reason that shitcoin will overtake bitcoin in the future.

Second, whether ETH or another altcoin surpasses Bitcoin, I will still use it. Bitcoin has always had a big influence on the crypto market and has a very popular support community. Nah. Bitcoin for me is long term and not some get rich quick scheme. Also, I do not consider Etherum to be a shit coin.

What is your reason for holding Bitcoin? For me there’s no quitting and the chances of Etherum surpassing Bitcoin is really slim.

For all the people commenting that they don't think ETH is a shitcoin, I can understand why judging the coin on its present status might lead you to think that.  But consider that perhaps you haven't been around long enough to understand why some people, quite legitimately, feel that there is a strong argument to be made to call it a shitcoin.  Most of you probably weren't around to witness the sheer farce some of us saw.

Just pop "ETH DAO hack" into your search engine of choice.  Recognise that a central entity had to intervene to "resolve" the situation (or make it worse, depending on your interpretation) and then maybe you'd be able to appreciate, from that point forward, why many people still consider it to be a failure.  It didn't live up to the standards that people came to expect of a decentralised network.  Some people will never forgive that.

I can't argue that their recovery from that shambles has been impressive, but it still leaves a bad taste how things were handled.

I wouldn't quit on Bitcoin because, to be honest, I don't just see it as an investment that is just good for a short-term goal but I see it as a long-term asset and as a currency that could change our lives in the future. However, I don't think disregarding ETH's capability would be fair. Ethereum is a good currency and it's also worth holding.

I think that there is always a possibility that some sort of coin could take over bitcoins dominance.  Now that coin is not going to be ethereum because they are not competitors.  Ethereum is a smart contract coin where bitcoin is not, so there competitor would be something more like litecoin. I think everyone should prepare for that being a possibility one day, but as of right now, there is definitely no competitor in that manner.

Talking about high transaction fees it seem there is no fixing that issue from the eth side anytime soon because till now the problem still persist and people are getting use to it, I guess the op has a reason for using that choice of word, I mean looking at it from this point of view, it will be hard not to get pissed with eth unending high transaction issues.

Honestly speaking, what I have done with my portfolio is embarrassing. I have 70% of the bitcoin fund. The 30% is in USDT.From this 30%, I use 25% for trading, like buying some altcoins or shitcoins and then waiting for a pump before selling them. After selling the profit I gained from that trade, I took 50% in BTC and 50% in USDT. I don't divide my investment, I only divide the profit. And from 5%, I sometimes cash out for my expenses, max 2%, and from 3%, I try to do some experimental holding. And one thing: I don't have a huge amount of money and I don't need a lot of money for my expenses. Monthly, $200 is enough for me. I have $170 for family expenses, $5 is for my internet bill, and $25 is enough for my pocket money. Because as a student, it is my savings time, so I don't waste my hard-earned money on useless things and stuff. I just believe if I save money now to invest in BTF when I complete my studies, this would give me enough to live a happy life.

I don't think ETH will ever surpass bitcoin, It might reach a close market cap but it's going to remain under which Bitcoin has.
It will never happen. Eth cannot surpass and overtake bitcoin. It's just that there are too many ETH holders thinking that they can see one day seeing it at top one.

It's bitcoin, if you doubt bitcoin, that's all on you. But for me, I don't doubt bitcoin and there have been a lot of attempts to dethrone it but none of the alts have won its throne.
These made-up situations are just going to make someone think and realize that they should've bought bitcoin long time ago and they shouldn't be focused on too much diversification.

Not that really against with diversification bt we know that this is something which is really recommended since we know on how this one could really be having some advantage but of course the risk would be always there.
Being optimistic towards bitcoin isnt really bad since it had been proven already in a decade that it is really something that really worth to be on the peak spot even though that nothing do last forever
but witnessing on the greatness that it had over all the years then i couldnt really blame off that you do have this kind of mindset.

Seeing other users that are up for the market cap and price of the coin just makes me smh. Jeez.
Why not invest to all of the coins out there if one is up for the price only? I have been a Bitcoiner since early 2017, and even if those other coins in the market went mainstream, I never zeroed my Bitcoins for something that would not even last overnight.

Bitcoin is & always will be the number one. All of the others are centralised shitcoins or coins with a near infinie supply. Stop trying to be clever all the time, hoping to catch the next bitcoin.

You don’t have to own a full bitcoin, just stick to bitcoin.

You don't need to urge them as it is clear to see that they don't know about Bitcoin and so Ethereum. That OP wanted to divert and trick our minds as it never happens that altcoins/shitcoins will surpass Bitcoin.

I think we have done with this discussion and we can't deny that these altcoins just exist because of Bitcoin and if Bitcoin will die, they will also be dead. Maybe I would quit investing ETH and put all of it into Bitcoin, which comes to reality.

Well exactly and it will never happen that ETH will surpass bitcoin.
Look at Ethereum does not have even a fixed supply and I think the supply is undetermined by the market cap. I will always go with bitcoin and still have faith in it even though ETH will fly high. But why do we need to argue that matters, both of these have become a good asset and you can invest in both two of them? Remember that, --in most cases, altcoins prices will follow to bitcoin price in the market, how come they will have an opposite direction.

Bitcoin has indeed proven to be the best in the crypto world, Bitcoin has always dominated the market and many projects have been created to beat
Bitcoin but all have failed. So only ignorant people think of getting out of Bitcoin, because Bitcoin will continue to rise in price and give us profit if we
collect Bitcoin and hold it in the long term. We really don't need to have 1 BTC to be able to feel the benefits of Bitcoin, so buy Bitcoin according to
our respective financial capabilities, that is enough for us to be able to benefit from Bitcoin. My advice is to stop thinking about leaving Bitcoin to invest
in other coins, if we really want to invest in other coins go ahead, but we don't need to leave Bitcoin. We can divide our capital in several coins,
but the most percentage should be in Bitcoin.

I can feel your pain, Even I sold the majority of my bitcoins prior bitcoin went to the moon around July 2017.

But feeling sad about it isn't going to do much and it's much better to think about new technology that's going to come in the future and invest in that, Whether it be some IT related company or Some Crypto related project, finding the potential in the project is necessary to make profit from it.

Investment opportunities are continous or limitless which means there would always be having that probability and its up to you whether you do make out decisions whether you do dive in or would skip out.

Its just really that hard to believe that Bitcoin would be surpassed after all the years we've been seeing in on the top then its hard to tell that it could be easily overtaken.

For now lets just cherish out that it is on the top and i agree on some points that nothing do last forever but it would surely stay for a while on the top rank.
