Title: Deron Williams to fight in an undercard on Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight. Post by: mirakal on November 06, 2021, 01:09:04 PM The news came out and I'm surprised that I will see another retired NBA player fight in boxing.
The news; https://www.spin.ph/boxing/deron-williams-to-fight-in-jake-paul-tommy-fury-undercard-a1931-20211106?ref=home_featured_1 Quote FORMER NBA All-Star Deron Williams is entering the boxing ring, possibly against a fellow former pro athlete. Williams, who played 12 seasons in the NBA, is fighting in the undercard of the Jake Paul-Tommy Fury event on Dec. 18 in Tampa, Florida. Organizers have yet to officially announce Williams, opponent, but he is reportedly set to face former Pro BowlerFrank Gore, who played 16 seasons in the NFL. Last time I check, an ex NBA player Nate Robinson got knockout cold by Jake Paul, and now another ex NBA star trying his journey in boxing, this must be fun. https://www.slcdunk.com/latest-utah-jazz-news-recent/2021/11/5/22765999/deron-williams-to-fight-on-jake-paul-tommy-fury-undercard I'm excited, exhibition fights getting to a higher level and as an NBA fan, I would never forget Deron Williams as one of the best players in the NBA during his era, his time with the Utah Jazz was so meaningful. This undercard fight will be another major attraction of the fight, they really know how to do the right marketing. Most probably their purpose is to entertain and to have some money as well, since this is an undercard there's no assurance that they can get a full attention from the crowd though seeing an ex NBA players and a retired player, makes me think that Boxing is getting weirder now. Lots of exhibitions matches between those retired players out of boxing, this might really be the trend now, there's no full retirement for them. Title: Re: Deron Williams to fight in an undercard on Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight. Post by: chaser15 on November 06, 2021, 01:54:23 PM What's happening at these NBA retirees. :D
I'm a fan of Deron Williams but not interested in this plan. First, Nate Robinson then it's now Deron. Well, that's their decision but no way I will bet on this fight. I'm excited, exhibition fights getting to a higher level and as an NBA fan, I would never forget Deron Williams as one of the best players in the NBA during his era, his time with the Utah Jazz was so meaningful. Not against your view and opinion but I don't see how it become a higher level seriously. Peace. :D Title: Re: Deron Williams to fight in an undercard on Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight. Post by: rhomelmabini on November 06, 2021, 02:18:01 PM He's kinda the brawl body type one and I guess this is just an exhibition match again? Well, saw this video (https://youtu.be/jRsmggRQZD8) about a professional UFC fighter Ryan Spann and he's been beaten by Deron during a sparring with him and our guy Deron Williams has an MMA Gym named Fortis MMA (https://youtu.be/QQyWrLGunJA) in Dallas, I think that could explain the fond of him to be on the ring. Well, it's just fun to watch how he's doing now after he retires NBA.
Title: Re: Deron Williams to fight in an undercard on Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight. Post by: qwertyup23 on November 06, 2021, 02:19:27 PM Deron Williams used to be my favorite player in the NBA. During his 2011-2012 (if I am not mistaken) season on the nets, he averaged like 20 points per game with 8 assists and highlights flying everywhere. It was so unfortunate to see him retire with the injuries.
With such news breaking out that he will be participating in an exhibition match, I swear, this is not one of those news that I want to see coming from one of my favorite players. As far as I remember, Nate Robinson also participated in an exhibition match (in which he was KOed) but maybe these people need the money. I mean, if I where in there shoes, I would probably do the same thing! Title: Re: Deron Williams to fight in an undercard on Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight. Post by: Japinat on November 06, 2021, 02:21:52 PM I'm not surprised to see an ex NBA player fighting in boxing, Nate Robinson started it and we might see more to follow, but hopefully Deron Williams will be able to win as Nate Robinson did not survive on the power of Jake Paul.
I am not sure about his financial status now that he is already retired, but back in the day when he was still playing in the NBA, he manage to have some good contract with a huge amount of salary. here is the details in case you guys are interested. https://www.spotrac.com/nba/cleveland-cavaliers/deron-williams-2757/ Quote 2005-2008 ENTRY 4 yr(s) / $16,316,529 2009-2011 3 yr(s) / $48,799,957 2012-2016 5 yr(s) / $98,772,325 2015-2016 2 yr(s) / $11,000,000 2016-2016 1 yr(s) / $10,000,000 Title: Re: Deron Williams to fight in an undercard on Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight. Post by: LogitechMouse on November 06, 2021, 02:42:54 PM ~ I didn't expect that there will be another ex-NBA player that will follow the steps of Nate Robinson in the boxing ring :D. Just kidding. If that's the case then good luck for him and I just hope that he will not end up the same as Nate. Well, both of them are players from different sport so seeing 2 first time boxers box in an exhibition match is kinda exciting I think. After all, both of them will be paid after the fight so... yeah maybe lets just enjoy the matches :D. Title: Re: Deron Williams to fight in an undercard on Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight. Post by: Hypnosis00 on November 06, 2021, 08:36:05 PM Surprising but great undercard fight. Ex NBA stars joining the exhibition fight craze now, maybe next time we will see NBA greats fighting each other in exhibition fights, and probably they will be in the main card too. I have no idea that Deron Williams could fight, honestly, I thought he was all basketball as that's his passion and he was really good prior to his injury.
Anyways, please update us the betting odds once they'll name his opponent here. Title: Re: Deron Williams to fight in an undercard on Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight. The betting odds for Jake Paul vs. Tommy Fury is already out in some sportsbooks, of course in favor of Tommy Fury here. So maybe once they got a name for the opponent of Williams, we will see the odds as well. Don't know the reason why some of these ex-NBA stars want to have their shot inside the boxing ring, do they have passion for it or just mere because of the money that they can generate from this? Title: Re: Deron Williams to fight in an undercard on Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight. Post by: Davidvictorson on November 06, 2021, 08:49:47 PM If Fury loses he should go to the top of a high mountain and become a monk ;D. But really I don't see that happening. Paul looks to be in shape but from what I understand his boxing skills are not very good. Have to give respect to Jake for making this fight happen. Even if he loses I don't think it's gonna be a knockout cause Tyron is more deadly than tommy and Jake survived. He might have been lucky but man can recover real quick.
Title: Re: Deron Williams to fight in an undercard on Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight. Post by: harizen on November 06, 2021, 11:44:03 PM Is Deron Williams still capable of doing training especially in bouts? He becomes undervalued in NBA because of some injuries and that makes him slow down. In boxing, there should be no room for being slowed down. How come he can move properly. While exhibition matches are crazy nowadays, so is their undercard. I don't know why Deron enters the world of boxing out of the moon. Something that is not expected by him. Title: Re: Deron Williams to fight in an undercard on Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight. Post by: batang_bitcoin on November 06, 2021, 11:48:19 PM I'm analyzing the name and saw the other thread of Jake's brother. These two brothers are having their own matches. And this is what they're targeting, if Williams is going to be an undercard for the main event of Jake. We're likely to see these retired athletes that are going for their boxing matches. It became easier this time for these retired players to come out because of these Paul's action and they're doing that it seems they're a better promoter than the actual promoters.
Title: Re: Deron Williams to fight in an undercard on Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight. Post by: Kemarit on November 07, 2021, 12:43:32 AM Does Deron Williams losses his money from the time he plays basketball?LOL
Not sure why ex-basketball players are also into this kind of exhibitions, except of course they are looking for a quick and good money in this kind of fights. And my best guess is that Williams may have been in some bad investments that he needed to recover and have some money fast. Title: Re: Deron Williams to fight in an undercard on Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight. Post by: Darker45 on November 07, 2021, 01:11:04 AM ...this must be fun. Or not. LOL! But, well, these men have a big following that may be interested to watch their favorite athletes on the gloves inside the ring. I hope they won't be disappointed. Anyway, does anybody think that the rise of celebrity boxing matches is already reaching a bothersome point? Title: Re: Deron Williams to fight in an undercard on Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight. I agree, sometimes you really have to think about why this players are jumping on the bandwagon of celebrity boxing matches and then gets knock out? Doesn't make any sense at all. Specially for Deron, who has a good solid career as a NBA player, but totally ruin his reputation by accepting this kind of exhibition match just for the money. It's becoming a bothersome for the sports itself. Title: Re: Deron Williams to fight in an undercard on Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight. Post by: Obito on November 07, 2021, 02:57:00 AM Well, this is exciting given that he's a basketball player, I expect that he'll have a really tough skin and high endurance which are a really good base if you want to be a good fighter in the ring, only thing left for Williams to do is to learn the basics and then polish them all the way throughout so he caan have a good performance in the ring and if possible steal the show from the main event.

Though his opponent is not yet announced, here's the rumor now. The Deron Williams vs. Frank Gore boxing match could be legit if it happens (https://www.sbnation.com/nba/2021/11/5/22765322/deron-williams-boxing-jake-paul-undercard-frank-gore-rumors) Quote The sight of an NBA player competing in the boxing ring is becoming more and more common. Nate Robinson famously got knocked out by Jake Paul. Lamar Odom fought Aaron Carter (yes, that one). Kendall Gill turned pro in boxing shortly after his retirement, and has been looking for a bout against Paul himself. Deron Williams is the next former NBA star to enter the squared circle. The three-time All-Star and two-time Olympic gold medalist is going to fight as part of the undercard for Paul’s bout against Tommy Fury, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. Williams is still looking for an opponent, and Charania mentions NFL Hall of Fame-bound running back Frank Gore as a possibility. Wrestling is a combat sports but you do not get punches, if you are getting punched for the first time you will sleep and Jake Paul is a decent boxer who could do that to anyone who is literally new to the sport. If two novice boxers are in the ring then we can say that Deron Williams will have a chance but if he is against anyone who is training for a long time then he will get hit.Title: Re: Deron Williams to fight in an undercard on Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight. We're curious about how these two fighters will react comes fight night, will they have sparring first so they can stage the fight right, Basketball and football are contact sports but they are not hurting sports, where you win by hurting your opponent, I wonder if we will have two chessplayers battling inside the ring in the future. :D They surely started their training now because they need more time to learn how to be entertaining in front of the fans. As what I witnessed in the past exhibition fights, I have not yet seen a fighter that does not have experience in boxing win a fight, but since both came from other sports, then most probably it will be hard to guess who will win, but let's hope we will get a surprise that would entertain the crowd, not to bore. Not just your body but more on your mental capabilities, though it's just exhibition fight, they still need to train well to avoid any risk with their health and make sure that their body is physically fit for this sport. Still, even in an exhibition match, the fight will require a good conditioning of the body. Even Deron is an injury-prone in NBA, we don't know the status of his continuous training. I think he can last up to 4 rounds but since we don't have any idea who will be his opponent, we can't give a wild analysis about the match for now. Until now there's been no announcement yet on who he will face in this fight, all we can read online are just rumors, but it's good for the fight as it showed how people are interested to see this fight, more rumors mean more interest. @harizen , thanks for that little trivia, now we know that he also has an interest in combat sports and owning a stake on Fortis MMA, that proved his genuine interest. Good point, there's a daily routine to maintain his physical body, but he needed to add more workouts since boxing is far different from basketball and the trainings to increase your stamina needs some extras, though it's just an exhibition. But I'm sure both fighters will extend some effort to make sure that they will give the fans some entertainment. Who knows if fans see the competitiveness between Williams and whoever the fighter he will face, another set of exhibition will be rewarded for them. ::) Just saying the possibilities, it's still on the promoters side to decide if they want to pursue giving another opportunity to Showcase their skills. ;D Title: Re: Deron Williams to fight in an undercard on Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight. I wouldn't compare Deron Williams with Nate Robinson... Since retiring from the NBA it's quite obvious that Deron Williams took up weight lifting to replace his basketball energy. The guy looks like he got a steroid addiction or something. He's massive. Anyone that big with the sort of athletic ability that Deron Williams has is going to be a dangerous person in the ring. I surely wouldn't want to fight him. I don't know how much he weighs these days, but I have a feeling this fight would be the first time many people will have seen Deron since he retired. They're going to be shocked... Title: Re: Deron Williams to fight in an undercard on Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight. Also I think age will play a huge role here knowing William is already at his 30's. Training for basketball and training for boxing are very very different two things. Plus even if you "train" boxing while being a basketball player, that is mostly for conditioning, since boxing is a very very tiresome sport and after just few rounds most people have huge fatigue that they can't handle, it is clear that most of the time people end up with tired arms and can't continue and it is a great conditioning training. So not like they are training to be great boxers, they are training to get their arms trained with boxing so that while shooting in a game, they won't be as tired. Now using that training boxing won't be enough, they would need to get a lot better and a lot quicker. They won't do that, they will train a bit but not really take it seriously, just for a few weeks and that’s it, then they are back to their lives. This is simply exhibition for making some cash and nothing else. Title: Re: Deron Williams to fight in an undercard on Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight. I think there should be a clear guideline as to who is allowed to fight in a serious boxing match. Boxing is not an easy sport anybody could just enter. There are numerous cases of boxers who died because of their matches. Not to mention those who acquired illnesses, those who became permanently disabled, and those who got injured seriously because of boxing fights. I don't know how well-trained these athletes are in boxing but they should not underestimate the sports. Title: Re: Deron Williams to fight in an undercard on Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight. This is actually the event that I fear the most where real boxing might become slowly obsolete with these kinds of matches and exhibition fights. The problem with most exhibition fights stem from the boxers, the viewers, and the entertainment they offer. Surely, it gives so much entertainment when we watch some old boxers fight famous people but this somehow defeats the spirit of boxing. But from a business perspective, these types of matches are very much sought after due to the revenue it offers to the players. Deron Williams was a small for a basketball player, he played as point guard but he is big for boxing. I couldn't find any video of him boxing though, I hope it won't be a disappointing experience for him.

Maybe, boxing is also his passion that we don't know about. Also, he maybe testing waters here. If he can fight inside the ring and see what kind of performance for him. If he is not for this contact sport, this will be one and only exhibition fight for him. But if he feels great and he can show some boxing moves, he may continue staging a fight. As I said above, he is a long-time boxing and MMA enthusiast and owns a stake in Fortis MMA, a Mixed Martial Arts facility that trained MMA fighters. Maybe he thinks, what if he will try it on actual. Nothing wrong though. Let's see what will happen next. Title: Re: Deron Williams to fight in an undercard on Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight. Deron Williams is a legend in court, no doubt, but I don't know how good he is as a boxer. We are familiar with big sport players changing the sport after (and sometimes in the middle of it) a successful career, it's more common in football to baseball and golf. Deron Williams was a small for a basketball player, he played as point guard but he is big for boxing. I couldn't find any video of him boxing though, I hope it won't be a disappointing experience for him. Yes he still doesn't have one boxing match but he is into MMA training and maybe boxing in 2016 he opens an MMA gym, and he is well trained one coach in his video show how Deron condition himself Rashad Coulter says Ex-NBA Player Deron Williams Can Fight: "He Really Can Fight. I think Deron Williams wanted to showcase his hidden talent in boxing through this exhibition bout, or maybe I should say that he wanted this game fight after he retires in his basketball career and wanted to try to fight inside a ring. We all knew that Deron Williams is such a good player of basketball but we don't know how he play inside the ring which is too far different from his past career. I believe that before this news was come out or affirmed this man already prepared himself through trainings or sparring maybe, well we don't know how seriously he is in this upcoming exhibition. Honestly, Deron Williams is even more worth watching compare to other popular names who just enter the exhibition matches out of nowhere and without knowledge of the sports itself. Deron knows the sports, knows the risks, knows everything on this stuff. Maybe just want to test the waters in actual because that sport is one of his favorites to the point that he invested in it. On the other hand, as far as my research is concerned, I've never seen any involvement of his opponent, Frank Gore, regarding boxing, mixed martial art, or any fighting-related sports. Yes, that's right, everyone in the world, especially boxing fans, would love to watch the Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul boxing match this time, I saw on YouTuber Tyson Fury that Tommy Fury's brother is very enthusiastic and eager to train his younger brother, who will soon face off in the ring on December 18th.Ahead of a few more days boxing between Tommy vs. Paul in the title has many fans, especially my friends who invite to place real bets, this is a sign that many people will watch their boxing this time. If i place a bet next dec 18 i will choose Tommy, for this time there are many reasons that i can hold for Tommy, young age, from a boxing family etc, hopefully my guess is right this time, yes this is fun as the OP said. Fans have different opinions, but the main reasons behind is to entertain those people who love this sport. In terms of boxing skills, both Nate and Deron have zero. In terms of where they're coming from, they're both coming from the same place. They are huge fans of the sport of boxing. Nate had worn the gloves when he was a kid. He sparred. He had a bag in his backyard. He trained in boxing, had advice from the boxing greats like Mayweather, etc. Does that necessarily make him a boxer? No. I am not dictating where Deron applies his interest. They all are. Deron has a reason and Gore hasn't? That's unfair. In fact, Gore has been training in boxing even when he was still focused on his NFL career. If a person can't still see the picture that all of them are simply wannabes, he is probably one of the reasons why this kind of shit continues. I was really thinking, why would the boxing organization creates a separate council intended for exhibition and pure entertainment. Have the people vote who they want to see fighting in the ring next. Maybe most people loves watching people beating each other, especially the celebrities. After that Mayweather and McGregor fight, the kind of scenery inside the boxing ring happened, a lot of personalities that keep popping inside social media sites informing the public about celebrity fight like this. It's undeniable that those people or fighters wannabe do have fans on their own, and those people are the target market of those promoters who wanted to make some decent money. As per this article Williams is the favorite to win this match. Quote Although these numbers will fluctuate as bets start to come in, the two-time Olympic gold medalist is a -225 favorite. Gore is currently a +185 betting underdog. For the uninitiated, you would have to plunk down $225 on Williams to earn an extra $100 if he wins. On the flip side, if you bet $100 on the former San Francisco 49er, you can bank an added $185 if he were to upset his much taller opponent on Dec. 18. source: https://sportsnaut.com/deron-williams-vs-frank-gore-betting-odds/ Title: Re: Deron Williams to fight in an undercard on Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight. Well there used to be celebrity boxing back in the days, but guess what, the hype around it has died down. So I think this all boxing exhibitions will also go down the same path. When people are no longer interested and there will be no audience, it might stop as well. But as long as we are still in the pandemic, and these boxing promoters are thinking out of the box and get people to buy this kind of match, and ex-sports athletes are a willing performer then it will continue. This kind of show match up will not disappear knowing that there are so many fans will still want to buy a tickets just to watch this celebrities fight and it started with youtubers so I expect that the hype will spread out easily compare to those professional matches where the people who watch this is limited only to the people who love to watch boxing. But let see this fight if how a NBA player will beat a Youtuber. Title: Re: Deron Williams to fight in an undercard on Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight. No, you miss the correct information.Deron Williams will only be part of the Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight as an undercard, he will not fight Jake Paul the youtube. It's gonna be Deron Williams vs NFL running back Frank Gore. you can read more in this story, https://www.espn.ph/boxing/story/_/id/32646038/ex-nba-pg-deron-williams-takes-fight-debut-seriously Title: Re: Deron Williams to fight in an undercard on Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight. Well, theres nothing we can do about it but to deal with it and skip out on making bets if you arent really that interested. I think we need to determine what's the cause of it. I just realized that if exhibition matches are boring, why are more people supporting and willing to pay for it? Have to know something before I will make a deep analysis of it. Post by: goinmerry on November 20, 2021, 02:43:47 PM A dumb fight on the card of a other dumb fight. Tired of seeing these fights being promoted as actual fights. They are terrible to watch. Why would I want to see an ex nba er fight an ex running back. I read how demon is taking this serious, well yeah he better or he will get lumped up. But as a serious fight nah. Wish these never started thanks McGregor. Since there are lots of individuals, who are not into boxing that enter boxing, and some made money and were successful about doing it, it will create more fights of that kind in the future. We, as a viewer, have an option to watch it or not. If we are annoyed by that, better ignore them and not support them all the way. No choice after all as there are people who are fans of watching those and willing to pay tickets and PPV to support the said match. Its fans free will weather to watch these kinds of matches or ignore it and look for those real fights. A cash cow ::) but fans always have options, it's their own decision whether to support by buying tickets or PPV or let it go and forget about it. :P That's correct and that's what I'm trying to say. If people see the fight as trash = ignore If people see the fight is worthy = they will pay for it Personalities have their own fan-based and followers that's why these types of matches are profitable. If we don't like it, we can't do something about it. Title: Re: Deron Williams to fight in an undercard on Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight. Most industries are just a reflection of what the population wants, there is a demand for these kind of fights which comes from a sector of the fans and the industry is doing nothing else but to supply what people want and earn money in the process, just like what happens in any other industry.Well, theres nothing we can do about it but to deal with it and skip out on making bets if you arent really that interested. However this is not something that worries me, this happens from time to time, once people see the fights are terrible then the demand will go down and these fights will disappear for some time, allowing us to enjoy the fights we have always enjoyed. And by the way, you are right man, they can make easy money with exhibition fights, and less risky so they are doing this consistently, especially the Paul Brothers. Exhibition fights arent official ones and those person who do really take advantage of their popularity on making things happen because we know that once it gets hyped then interest goes high which means its higher revenue which is really very that common thing for them to arrange on. Its true that accessibility nowadays is indeed fast compared to old years which marketing out this fight is very simple. Those streamers you are referring to won't stop doing that exhibition matches. That's what they choose as a hobby, activity and at the same time entertainment. You will see lots of matches in the future involving the Paul Brothers. The topic is about Deron Williams, a former NBA cager, involved in an actual boxing match where in the first place, he is not a professional boxer but just like the sports and has knowledge about it. The event between Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul is a professional match. There's no exhibition match as an undercard therefore, the fight of Williams is also a professional one but I'm not sure if the boxing league will revert it to an exhibition which I doubt. I don't think this will stop anytime soon as they can still gain viewers and they are still earning money from this. Their respective promoters are good in looking for opponents that can sell the fight. Maybe, we will see more of them in the next coming months, those ex-athletes who want try their hands inside the ring. Since Jake Paul is more of considering his boxing career as a professional match, I hope he will choose the next opponent that is also an active boxer in the same league. He can still change people's views about him and regain respect. Totally different from Logan Paul that uses boxing as a form of easy-revenue scheme and challenges famous boxers so he can take advantage of their popularity. For those who may not know, Deron was a star guard for the University of Illinois. He led them to a championship game (which they unfortunately lost) and had a very good NBA career. My best memory of him is beating the University of Arizona in what’s considered one of the NCAA tournaments greatest games. Will be rooting him on.

Correct and there's nothing at stake like professional record on this and this dudes just to want to fight for pay check also for fame that's why we cannot expect any huge box fight on this event, but although this fight is good to see knowing these two guys are popular and to see which one of them will sleep in the ring. But for this fight I will go with Paul although if there's a betting option I will not bet since this is kinda not good to place some money since this is just a exhibition fight.
