Title: If I had bought bitcoin 10 years ago, I would have been a millionaire: Not true
Post by: fokinlipat on December 16, 2021, 07:18:13 AM
The reality is that they would not have been able to hold for so long even if they bought 10 years ago. Very few have the patience to wait till 100x or more. Most of the investors will be sold at the idea of 2x or 3x itself. Some of the people that were able to hold for so long were those who had invested and then completely forgot about it. There is one more category of people who had complete trust on BTC and thus they stick with it for years.

Yes, one of the ways to make money in investment is to buy at a low price and sell at a high price. Even now that we understand this truth, we cannot keep holding and not selling.
It is easy to hold on for a period of time, but ten years is very long. You can invest a part of the money now and treat it as a loss. Wait ten years later and see how many times this part of the money can be doubled.
To be honest, I may not be able to invest my money and leave it alone.

Agree on the first point, The only person that still holding that bought last 10 years are those who invest small amount of money that time and forgot about it. I manage to buy last 6 years when price is below 100$ and I managed to hold and sell it @ 19,000$ but I bought only small amount that time since I'm not completely trusting Bitcoin that due to lots of ponzi scam by the time I'm new to crypto but still it gives me a good fortune until now. I use most of the funds on establishing physical business while I still save some for trading which I sold on the new ATH. I rarely visit my hardware wallet which is the main reason why I hold most for a long period of time.

Yea there were many risk that may stop you form becoming a millinaire both inside of investor (psychological - not standing the pressure and selling too soon) or outside (for being cought by CEX exit scam - Mt. Gox, loosing access to wallet etc). But you had 10 years in the market that grow like x10 000. It was not a single event that you may fail (buy and sell to soon). It was years of being wrong. Years of missed opportunities. Not buying back during 2011 bottom at 2.5$, not buying back in 2014-2016 or 2019-2021.

If you had bought Bitcoin 10 years ago AND forgot all about it, you might have been a millionaire, would probably sound more realistic tbh. Realistic investors would mostly want to double or triple their investments as op have said, and would probably buy in every now and then at dumps and sell in pumps. Still, idk if that kind of process would actually reveal that one would be a millionaire or not, though I reckon he'd have a pretty sizeable profit by then if he continued doing so from start to today.

Not all had the patience. 2x profit was tempting back then and most of us felt that was all the market had to offer. Many lost their keys and lost total access to their wallets because they didn't believe so much in it. But many still
held on and today they are millionaires patience truely pays but having this patience is more like a gift

I believe this as well. Not everyone has the patience of a saint, and surely not everyone would have sold at a much higher price, especially if the current price already exceeded their entry price by a huge margin. Most of us here would have sold in a heartbeat especially if our investments were already x10 of what we invested, and not many people understand that. Most mindsets are weak in the long game of holding coins, because they don't fully believe in the capability of cryptocurrencies hence why if the price is right, they just give in and regret it later on.

I am getting your point and your are not wrong because it is true that many people sold their bitcoin and many people even do not have believe that bitcoin will be worth more today and they lost their private keys. The right statement should be If I had bought bitcoin 10 years ago, I would have been a millionaire if I did not sell it earlier and also if I have not lost the means to spend the coins, if the private key is lost, the person is still not a millionaire because it has no access to the coin.

You cannot speak for everyone , and you are only considering the situation now that is why you come to that IDEA.
Remember if you bought bitcoin 10 years ago and the price multiplied x10? are you serious to sell those bitcoin? when the price grows only as the investment is also cheaper?
this is the reason why Early adopters keep their coins long term because they only invest the extra funds they have in wallet and only risk for at least a chance that future will be same as now.

I also agree. You could have been a millionaire if you start hodling bitcoin 10 years ago and decided to sell it at the current price. But the process is not as easy as that. We investors are mostly aggressive when we see our investments soaring high so it's most likely that we will sell immediately our coins once the price is very profitable, otherwise the price will drop again and lost another opportunity to make profits. This is the mindset of all investors so its very rare to see a hodler being able to hodl his investments for 10 years, unless he forgot that he has an investment way back 10 years ago.

You're right, majority would be selling at $100 when they've bought it at centavos or $10. But that's not a matter anymore, those that were able to hold for so long and made a decent amount of holding until now, they're the legends. They really are the ones that have believed in blockchain and bitcoin alone. So, their belief has been paid off and as well as their patience.

All of us think about this but you shouldn't look for the past which didn't give anything to you and maybe learn to adopt what's currently given these days since this could give you a good result in future since always thinking about those things will just give you little stress for not doing anything at that time.

Unless they already have a solid plan on not to withdraw it no matter how high the price was. For those people who don't believe that there are people out there capable of holding their BTC for too long. But those who regret selling their BTC too early, those things are meant to be like that because if you didn't sell those BTC the price won't pump up to the point it creates ATH every halving season. It's just like a domino effect and we can understand it more by looking at the Pizza bitcoin story.

True or not, it depends on how you have done with your Bitcoin.

  • If you bought it 10 years ago, and sold it all. You actually got very small money from your selling in fiat.
  • If you bought it 10 years ago, and lost it all because you lost private key by whatever reasons. You got nothing.
  • If you bought it 10 years ago, sold part of it, even up to 80% or 90% BUT still reserve 10% or 20% for selling in 2020 or 2021, I believe you actually got something big enough in return.
  • Not your keys, not your coins. Remember this statement if you are in crypto.

I would say you are right that majority of people would not have held through all the price crests and troughs over those years, particularly when you consider how many ponzi scams were present during that period, and how little information was known about the bitcoin network, In my opinion, very little of the population still know about bitcoin, but there is a growing sense of legitimacy about it, in addition to the potential for profit which is enough for most.

Although there is still a small part of the population who fully understood and trusted the network to utilize it properly from the start; this does not just involve hodling but also using it as a peer to peer currency.

I guess majority of us never have the guts to hodl our bitcoin for that long and we intend to sell them when we see good opportunities to make profits. Not that we don't believe bitcoin that much, but we really don't have the long patience to wait for 10 years long so we can maximize profits. Now that OP had made us realized that we missed a very great opportunity, its not late to start buying now and hodl your investments either 10 or 20 years from now. That will be a long waiting game but the reward is definitely very worth it.

Not true necessarily. I have talked with people who have been mining since late 2011/12 with average cost of $2/$3 for each bitcoin mined. He is still holding that bitcoin and still active in the forum. I agree with you. It's very hard to hold on when price is 10x, 100x. Very few people have hold their BTC for a quite long time and they are the ultimate elite class mention by an anonymous guy-
I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=12156.0)
Of course this people have hold their bitcoin all the way and I believe they still have bitcoin and they are now wealthy elite.

You think that even if you had bitcoin 10 years ago, you wouldn't be able to keep it today. You think so because you have seen the future of bitcoin. investing in the past is so beautiful for us to see now, some people who underestimated crypto's past are now dumbfounded. how not, the value of their investment to be 100x more than their basic investment.

It's easy to say that if we had held bitcoin 10 years before, we may have been millionaires by now but the fact is that we would have sold it long before. How is it possible for any individual to not sell the bitcoin at 2017 peak of 20,000$ and still holding it now ? Mind it we had a bear market in between which took bitcoin back to 3900$.

Yes it is not true, me who have bitcoin at 2014-early 2015, seeing bitcoin at price of $900-$2000 already made some people happy. To be honest i am not expect bitcoin to be this high and already sold my coins although it is not more than 1 bitcoin. But, who not happy if their investment reach x2 or x3 already?

if the initial intention to invest in the long term and within a certain time the invested assets will be withdrawn it could be the initial capital to hold BTC for 10 years and become a millionaire when bTC 60k$ yesterday

not all of that is very true if we bought bitcoin 10 years ago then we will automatically become millionaires and even billionaires at this time where the current bitcoin price reaches 100% from 2010 where bitcoin was not yet known by many people where we can become a millionaire at that time when we bought bitcoin and sold it today but what can we do not know anything about bitcoin at that time

In the title, you speak on your behalf and admit that it would be an impossible mission for you, but I think there are a lot more people in this last category than you think. Not everyone has invested their time or money in Bitcoin just to become millionaires, although that is the only thing we are talking about today when it comes to Bitcoin.

You shouldn't look at all this only through the prism of personal enrichment, because if you sell BTC for fiat, you are at the beginning of the story again - the only question is whether you understand what Bitcoin is and why someone invented it.

That will depend on that people because if they have a strong hand holding bitcoin, they will not easily sell their bitcoin if the price is not at the top price. I am sure they can hold for a long time, even for 10 years, because 10 years is nothing for them. We can follow their step to hold our bitcoin and not sell if the price does not reach our target but we need to have a strong hand like them to achieve our goals in the future. If we do not have many bitcoin for now, we still have more times to accumulate the bitcoin from many ways and although that is not easy, we need to believe that we can do that because our dream is to have many bitcoin.

https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2020/05/20/50-btc-just-moved-for-first-time-since-2009-but-it-doesnt-look-like-satoshi/

And many many more, and oh, those were 11 years, not ten, and the coins moved, it didn't mean they were sold. It's not really nice to make claims and tell poeple you wouldn't be able to do something just because you think others think like you. Besides, if you would have bought in 2009 and sold for 2-3x, that makes even less sense, what, grab $10 profit and run? Poeple who would do that are poeple who weren't keen to invest anyhow, they just wanted to play a bit around and never expected profits.

Oh, and another thing, a lot of poeple who bought in 2011-2013 were far better of than the rest of the world, don't judge them from the point of view of a bounty hunter, a lot of them were working as software engineers, programmers that were paid well above the average, and it's western world average, meaning around $100k a year, when you're getting that wage you don't rush to take profit for $300.

im still hoarding since 2012.. just saying.

my mindset is its a pension pot. i put funds in and forget about them. i dont check on them or keep valuing them against daily prices. i just know they are secure against a private key so i dont need to look, think about or value. they are just there, and will stay there until i decide to move them.

most people that become impatient are the ones that dont think of it as a pension pot of funds. they see it as their weekly/monthly income becoming profitable.

for those wanting to hoard long term dont check the daily price, dont calculate the daily price against the number of coins you have. dont even check the coins you have hoarded. if you have no intention to spend them any time soon, there is no need to think about the value of them any time soon. they aint going anywhere

when most people put money into a FIAT pension. they do not check how much is in the pension fund each paycheck. because they know none of that money is coming out because they have not reached retirement.
all they do is just make sure their work paycheck has deducted the small amount from income to put into a pension. all they care about is the contribution amount per month. not the hoarded secured nest egg amount

so keep that in mind.. or more precisely out of mind. dont worry about the nest egg, just make sure you are regularly reinforcing the nest with regular twigs to make it stronger. you dont have to recount how many twigs you already put previously into making the nest. just look at the twigs your adding when you add them

you then get to control your emotions and patience better

If some rich or middle class person invested $1,000 or $10,000 into BTC early, they had no reason to liquidate at 2x profit, because they didn't need those money anytime soon and could afford to risk and wait more. I won't be surprised if that's how many of the current whales were made - they kept hodling because they could afford to lose their investment.

nah. my experience was in 2012 i done a bit of mining. btc and ltc. and in 2012 there were many arbitrage opertunities on the now defunct btc-e exchange to flip the coins in circles to get profits and grow my hoard.

my expense/investment was disposable middle income like instead of buying pizza/take-out food, id buy a couple btc here and there(along side the gains from trading coins). after all if your going to buy fast food, that money just becomes a toilet flush the next day, so no actual loss in investing these amounts instead.

as the drama of MTGOX arrived i decided to lay off from trading my growing hoard and just hid it away out of mind out of sight. where by id only play with like 0.1% of hoard and grow that as 'play money' and add it to my pile once it reached a certain amount.

gradually i just stopped looking at my hoard, i wasnt gonna move it any time soon so there is no need to watch it regular.

to me now, even though i could value it against a dollar amount and crap my pants like someone winning the lotto by finally realising the wealth. but instead even now 9 years on. i still think of it as my non-toilet flushed investment

Well, if you really have that positive mindset and strong hands to hold your bitcoins and sell it after 10 years, it will be very possible. But the problem is most of the hodlers are not as patient as that. Once they see huge profits in front of them, they become very eager to sell knowing tomorrow the price might won't be the same again. Bitcoin is very volatile so it has high tendencies to make the price of bitcoin goes up suddenly, or drop down drastically. Even if i put myself to this, i know i can't wait for 10 years long because i am always taking chances to sell everytime i see good opportunities.

There is no doubt  If someone had bought bitcoin 10 years ago, he would have been a millionaire: But the fact that affects it is human nature that he cannot stay for a long period of 10 years, his impatience does allow him to do so.But there is a possibility only if some is already a millionaire and after purchasing bitcoin he does not need to cash it he takes it easy as small money in the bank or does do care for this amount.
You have a point. Buying early doesnt mean you're patient enough to hold your BTC until now because who would have thought the price will increase drastically.

Probably if you invest 10 years ago, you might be tempted to sell after seeing you have a huge gain already not knowing it will increase further. However there's nothing wrong to take profit if you're already happy with your gains and I think thats what matter.

Its just a realization that if an investors managed to hold from 10 years ago up to now, they're millionaire already.

When they see huge profits in front of them and can use that moment to profit from that, they are lucky because they can use the other time to buy back at a low price. After all, as we know that after the high price, it will go down and we already see that the price can drop too deep. That is the benefit for us to buy back at a low price and the amount that we can buy will be more than the amount that we sold before. Maybe they do not have to sell all the amounts but leave some amount for the next very higher price to profit. But unfortunately, most people want to see the price increase and hit the next highest price in the next few hours but that can not always happen.

This is a very subjective matter because not all of the Bitcoin holders have the patience to hold for 10 years or even 5 years.
I'm a Bitcoin holder and I bought mine when the pandemic started (at least near that time) when Bitcoin is still at 4-digit price. Now I'm still in profit even though the market is going down and there is this temptation that comes to my mind that always saying that "You should take profit because if you hold for a longer time, your profits might turn into dust".

I'm not the only one but many of the holders are experiencing the same thing. If they saw that their holdings are in a huge profit they are thinking of selling it because the profits might be gone in the next weeks or next months. For those who are very patient to hold Bitcoin to 10 years then congratulations to you. You are the most patient of the most patient investors here :D. As for me, I don't think that I can hold Bitcoin for that long.

I believe those who buy bitcoin 10 years ago already sell their bitcoin and never hold until today because hold method needed fully trust to the coins itself and I'm sure most of people who bought bitcoin 10 years ago never thought bitcoin price so high and the facts from hold is never easy to be implemented especially for next 10 years i think most people had no patient to hold bitcoin for that long
10 years ago bitcoin was seen as a bubble, a joke, and quickly disappeared as a ponzi scheme but now everything has changed. Bitcoin and cryptocurrency are the most searched keywords on the internet, countries and companies are opening their hearts to bitcoin and accepting it. Now people are already aware of the value of bitcoin. I think in the coming years patience and trust in bitcoin will take precedence.

. . . And same thing is gonna happen now onwards. Many think that to overcome the problems of limited bitcoin the price per bits has to increase a lot so that everyone can have something to trade and reduce the inflation. So in short the price is going to hike even more and the day won’t be long when we will see a million dollar per bitcoin rate.

So anyone who has the gut to hold today will have crazy money in their pockets. The problem is the rate is too high for the bitcoin and it’s nothing like here as it was 10 years ago.

The challenge has increased a lot and it’s truly complicated whether one should hold, or one should sell.

Holding the coins you invested for long ago is not at all easy task although it looks like because you need to be patient enough for all these years and suffer through the crash like situations and many more difficulties to face off. Those who are millionaire today is because they still hold it or sold some that they were having from early days of it's launch.People make stories but they didn't want to be part of it.

There's possibility that some in this category would've even attempted selling off at some point to buy back so as to increase their quantity but then missed the bus. I won't blame those who did because it's a hard thing to continue to hodl when one has a complete indication that Bitcoin would dump. I wouldn't do that. I would rather fancy my chances and take them at such a time. It's either a hit or a miss. Certainly, only those who don't an iota of trading skills will fold their hands and watch the opportunity slip them by. It's better to take a risk than not to take it at all.

I believe that you always have to try to make the best possible decision, when you can, sometimes you can't wait, you have to sell. And that happens as an investor or simply as someone who bought bitcoin for whatever reason. Some of  this reasons may be the ones you name in the OP.

There is a group that although they knew about bitcoin I ignore it, that tells you that it is not necessary to have sold bitcoin to stop being a winner these days ... or a millionaire.

That initial time where bitcoin is remembered for its easy acquisition, is repeated every year, if it is true it cannot be compared in terms of price, but even today we could have a price that many of us may think the same 10 years from now.

We already know that.
Back in the early days of Bitcoin, nobody would have expected that the Bitcoin price will hit 68K USD.
Nobody would buy BTC back in 2011 or 2012 with the idea of HODLing BTC until the price increases 10x or 50x.The BTC market had little to no liquidity and Bitcoin was viewed as a currency, rather than asset.
Bitcoin was praised for the low transaction fees combined with anonymity and privacy back then. The speculative nature of BTC became a thing after 2013 or maybe after 2016.
The only legit way to become rich is to work hard and build a business. All the effortless ways(like buying BTC and waiting for it's price to go 100x) are more like winning the lottery. It's nice in general, but easy earned money can be spent pretty easily as well.

You are right.

The only thing I would like to know is if there is anyone around the forum who bought on those dates and sold as the price went up but without selling everything. I don't recall seeing anyone saying this.

That would be the smartest option in my opinion. I mean someone who bought a good amount, not people who do DCA and rebalance, there are a few of those in the WO thread.

I definitely agree with that. I know most would have sold from all the Bulls and Bear markets that have happened over the years and let's not forget how long those Bear markets were back then and been from the start the price of Bitcoin wasn't that attractive and I also honestly believe that MOST that HODL through those years wasn't because they had the belief that it will get to this position cos I too was introduced to Bitcoin in 2015 and didn't take it seriously until 2017.

the only way to prove it is, buy it now and hold it for 10 years in the future. then you will see the results of the investment.

Then it can be possible. The second reason is that if someone had forgotten after investment in cryptocurrency.

True. Emotional control is the most difficult thing when it comes to trading or investing so learning to control emotion is more important than anything else.. It often happens that we keeping carrying losses for long time with the hope that one day our trade will turn into profit but when it turns we get tempted to book profit even if it is small and we lose opportunity to make big profit. If I had bought Bitcoin back in 2010 , I am sure I would have sold it when my profit had become 10X.

I tend to agree on this because most of those who bought when the price is cheaper they will be eager to buy even when the price stands multiple value.
but those who bought 10 years ago? they love keeping thir funds because the capital is very cheap and they can afford to lose those amount.
same reason why the famous advise in this community is Only Invest the Amount you can afford to lose because that is the motto of the first adopters .

It really depends...
Let's say that somebody has bought (or mined!) bitcoin so long ago and the amount was indeed substantial.

Most probably some did spend it all. Also very few did hold all (some under collectible items) or even bought more. Some have forgotten and probably lost the access to the coins too.
But I also expect some - and not few - who have sold some and kept some of the coins. I expect that this is could be a majority, since the"gray" is usually on a "wider range" than "black" and "white".
Yet somehow this category seems overlooked.

I mean, it's written in many places and many ways that a good strategy is to cash in only a part of a long term investment. I expect that some did follow it. And if they've started with - let's say 100 BTC (see, not even the 10000 BTC needed for some pizza!), they may still have some 25-30 BTC left, which comfortably worth over one million dollar. And if you consider that the starting 100 BTC is probably very low for the early days... do the math.

So again... it depends...

Mind you that some people only make this sort of statement so it looks like they actually missed out on something big, but quite a lot of them would not even have invested if you told them about Bitcoin ten years or so ago, they'll take it to either be a scam or something that has no future, now more people are talking about Bitcoin and believe in the network cause they have seen its performance down the years, this even goes for institutional investors, they never had any trust in the network, but after the start of the pandemic, quite a lot of them have changed their minds and there has been an influx of such investors into the network. But having said that, what people must understand is that it doesn't really matter the time you get into the network, whenever you do so, just take time to learn and garner knowledge so you don't make mistakes nor get scammed, and in the long run you'll make returns on your investment

We are not talking about 10 years from now instead 10 years before now .

Meaning if you bought Bitcoin now or at least year ago surely you have sold already recently when the ATH broken up to 69k.

But this topic talks about from the beginning in which Bitcoin value is just so much cheap that even a First grade boy can afford to buy 10 bitcoin at one time.

this means you can Keep the holding for 10 years till 2020 or at least till 2017 .

Exactly my problem when I first started out with bitcoins. That was 5 and not 10 years ago but unfortunately I also got blindsided by the short term profits of Bitcoin's. Back in the days I used bitcoins a lot to buy and sell CSGO skins, but when I had enough of trading skins and I wanted to collect all my profits I did the same with bitcoins. This was my biggest investment mistake I ever made selling all my coins. At the time it was a nice profit and I felt very happy, but comparing it to today's prices it was a big mistake.

I believe what makes lot's of people to focus on bitcoin in my country was during the Covid lockdown lot's of people came to meet me just for me to teach them about cryptocurrency. I believe bitcoin price is still low any free money am having now am using it to bag more bitcoin.

Situations like that often happen in the trading world, both crypto and real, nothing lasts 10 years, if that's you, maybe that person has lost the device or died.

Bitcoin is money, everyone has trouble with money, where he has to take and use it, the phenomenon has become the flesh and blood of every human being in life, even though they have a salary of $$$/month.

I see and read from the history of people who are rich because of Bitcoin, they don't take up to 10 years, they just invest their money in Bitcoin with large amounts, where when the price of Bitcoin drops at a cheap price they buy, the price goes up they sell, the most patient waiting for selling 1-2 years, and even then it's been a very long time.

Example:
In 2019, when the price of Bitcoin was cheap, there were some people who bought 30 Btc, at the end of 2020 they sold everything, feeling that they had made a big profit, for example they were waiting for the middle of 2021.
surely they have more money maybe 5 times, that's life no one can predict what will happen in the future, bottom line: enjoy what you have, that's the wealth you have, have fun while you're alive, no hallucinations 10 years from now, no one will know 10 years from now.

Well, it is nice if there are people like that, but I highly doubt that they would hold for a decade even if their goal is long-term investment, especially that there have been many times that bitcoin reached its peaks. Comeon. Play around with it. Get some interest. NEXO, Tarot or whatever. Take some chances. How you become rich with it. You spend it right!

Heck you can even use it for collateral if you wanna make a loan. You are rich.

Ok. So I get BTC dividends from Betfury and Tarot. Nexo had some cease and desist threat from some New York cocaine cowboys so I pulled the snabel on that one.

How about you get a letter from Copenhagen, Denmark. Telling you to shutdown a factory in China? Nah.. No good. No logic to it. Why they go to the moon and of-shore.

I think only Satoshi Nakamoto is capable of holding for 10 years, because he is the creator of Bitcoin so must have a very strong belief in his creation.
Unlike us who are ordinary investors, very difficult to be patient holding Bitcoin up to 10 years. Most of us if the price of Bitcoin has gone up,
will definitely be tempted to sell the Bitcoin that we have to be able to make a profit. My guess is maybe 5 years is the longest limit of people holding
Bitcoin, because humans in life often get financial problems suddenly. So usually many people often sell their assets if they experience financial problems,
so it is very difficult to hold Bitcoin for up to 10 years.

Lol, it makes no sense if you hold bitcoin for 10 years and don't care or see the interest and passion in it.  Maybe you are carefree and keep it quietly as a keepsake, you have even forgotten about it.  it's not easy, can hold but you won't be able to help but care about bitcoins.  There are many people who hold bitcoin longer but there are also people who will use it as a payment if they really feel the need.

Bitcoin will become more and more valuable as people raise awareness of its ultimate value.

Sometimes dreaming is beautiful and fun, but after that we will be disappointed not to buy bitcoin 10 years ago. Now it's better for us to think about how we can get as many bitcoins as possible at a time when the price of bitcoin is much more expensive than the price of bitcoin 10 years ago. We must often participate in Bounty campaigns or join all Airdrops, while collecting all Altcoins and then selling them to be able to buy Bitcoin. I think this is a great way for beginners to earn Bitcoin.

Even if there were, we wouldn't have known about it or maybe he kept it a secret or wasn't here.
and most people will have something in common with what we do and will not be able to contain their emotions when they get big profits, and after that do the same thing and most importantly don't make sales in a state of small profits let alone in a state not megutungkan.
because we are afraid of the risks that occur unexpectedly.

We must often participate in Bounty campaigns or join all Airdrops, while collecting all Altcoins and then selling them to be able to buy Bitcoin. I think this is a great way for beginners to earn Bitcoin.
A decade ago sometimes we did not need to invest money to buy, just a computer with a powerful enough configuration and a little knowledge of bitcoin harvesting, the amount of bitcoins that can be earned will even be more than our investment efforts now and cherish in a decade, being a millionaire is not an overstatement. Airdrop and bounty were powerful cards and weapons to do so ten years ago but now the rewards are few and the cheats are more, besides, maybe it's just amnesia that helps us hold bitcoin in such a way, most of the time it's simply selling and selling without thinking much.

You made a valid point here, In fact majority of early bitcoin hodlers or investors must have sold at a much reasonable price thinking that it has peaked, only few investors who has a mindset of hodling bitcoin for the future and value it as an asset would have made a fortune for hodling it, despite the upsurge in the price some of these investors or hodlers still kept like an asset instead of selling all or part to fiat, I think these category of people deserve some commendations for their patience and perseverance.

I'm not sure about this, because early investors didn't need to sell their entire holdings to make x2 or x3 profit. They could have just sold some percentage of their investment, splitting the total sum into short, medium and long term quotas. I believe there aren't many of those millionaires nowadays simply because there weren't many early bitcoin adopters, and at same time many of them were probably already millionaires back then, because bitcoin wasn't something widely advertised among laymen. It was the technical, professional guys (not only in informatics, but in finances too) who were there since the beginning.

Yes, I agree with your point. However, I believe if I had bought bitcoin 10 years ago, the price would have touched $100 per share because at that time, I thought this was the highest return I was getting, so I should take my profit. But after it crossed $5000 for the first time, people understood that this could touch any price mile stone. And you know what I am believing right now, which is that there is no best time, whenever you take entry, just keep holding it tight for some time, you will get your return guaranteed. Consider those who will tell me in ten years that if I bought bitcoin in 2021, it will be difficult to buy a bitcoin for me right now. This is what bitcoin teaches us: that time is everything and it is the only game changer.

Who would have thought that bitcoin will reach the 50k or 60k mark? For sure, when bitcoin reached more than 16k last 2017, a lot sold their stash, because it was the first time that they had seen such value. So even if you bought a lot way way back, still no assurance that you haven't sold along the way, when you feel you are in very good profit.  So for those saying that they should have bought, your decisions may have been different as no one knows where btc price is heading to.

it would be difficult or even impossible for someone 10 years ago to predict that the price of bitcoin would increase up to $69,000, and I also think that when it is, 2017 the price reached $20,000 many people who had held it for years must have sold

Most of the investors will be sold at the idea of 2x or 3x itself.

I agree, many people started to place a lot of value on hodl after they saw the price go up to $20,000

people who have the money to invest don't dont really go into quick withdraw, it's only people don't have money that always been conscious of withdrawing their investment money, so from my observation, the process of allowing your coin to stay in a period of time, like interval of ten years and above depends on your source of capital and the strength of your financial capability, those set of people that's is willing to withdraw or doesn't not allow investment to stay so long have a target and it's accordance or applicable to people who leaves investment for a while...in summary, it's long time investment that gives money and also turn a millionaire to a billionaire, from my perspective.

Not always true. I know guys who purchased BTC in 2020, and then sold their coins in 2021 for 100% profit. And personally in my case, I made the initial investment in 2014, when the exchange rate was around $600 per coin. And after almost seven and half years, I am holding on to more than 50% of those coins, and by now the net worth has gone up by 80 times or so. I agree that not everyone would have the patience to hold on for so long. But if you had invested during the early days, then the chances are that you will be richer by now.

In the past price growth for a coin needs many years to make 10-100x returns, but nowadays a coin could make 100x in less than a year, it showed us the market growth of cryptocurrency is growing so fast, if we compared to the previous years, this year's market cap is having a crazy growth.
I'm sure the next following years are will be more because the worlds is already realize the crypto power could make people's life easier compared to using banks for transaction.

Maybe that is because, from this year, the number of people involved in crypto increased, so they see that with many potential coins in the crypto market, they think that will help them make money. That is why one coin can make 100x in less than a year, especially we still have a gaming trend that rewards the player for earning money. So I think it is a blessing for those involved in crypto from 10 years ago because I am sure that they will have so many coins in their wallet and all of those coins can increase anytime, especially if the altcoin season can come again.

In my personal experienced I've purchased bitcoin wayback year 2017 and at that time the price was only $2.5k but after a few months of holding bear market came and as much as I wanted to hold it for a long term I don't have a patience enough that time to hold for a more years to come, i've stop my loss or it is safe to say that I've take the profit that I think is already enough. Today, if I could only turn back time I am now a self-made millionaire but past is past, and after all I don't also have regrets to what happened, I just learned an important lesson that when you feel that the crypto you're holding is worth to hodl for a long term, and as much as the money you put here is an amount thaat you can afford to lose then better to hodl it for a long term.

of the thousands of people who bought and kept their bitcoins from 10 years ago, maybe only a few people have been able to keep their bitcoins until now, maybe there are rich people who do that, because those who have more money are always investing in time. the old one, in contrast to us who only have mediocre money, so it will not be possible to store bitcoins for up to 10 years, maybe if any of us have stored bitcoins until now maybe they are now millionaires, indeed that is a reality because the price of bitcoin goes up 100 times the price we bought first..

Totally agree with you, no one wants to hold for long without having a roadmap of how the return will be in the future... but the most likely to hodl for a long time to become millionaires are those without the actual interest in cryptocurrencies and another problem that arises is that these buyers are also likely to be the guys to have lost their private keys to such coins.

Ironically this is similar to the strategy that one of the best investors in the world suggests as a strategy for stock market investing - don't buy into something unless you're willing to hold it for ten years (or be unconcerned if the stock market closed tomorrow for ten years). Another similarity is the best investors in funds have been proven to be dead people - they didn't buy and sell unnecessarily so had the best returns. You're right though, most people could never have predicted the heights Bitcoin would reach in the mania of the last couple years and would have likely thought selling at 5k, 10K, even 25k would have been good. It would still have been a major return on investment however and that is the right way to look at it.

That's totally a fact only those who have the resolve to really hold it on the long term got rewarded and I think I wouldn't count a thousand to those who really hodl all the way until now. I guess only those who are already millionaires have the courage to take those risks but for those who already got the profit they need like 10x, 20x, 50x will surely have paper handed it.

This is absolutely wrong.... I bought coins when the price was $300+ and I still have some of those coins in cold storage. I have also bought many more coins after that and I have also sold some coins at $18 000 (2017/18) and then again lately ..just after the price hit $50 000+

I will continue buying and selling as the price dump and recover... because that is how profits are made.  ;)  The people who sell at those small margins are speculators and they are from the old financial systems with their low volatility.  ;D ;D ;D

No one could really tell on what would happen in future and its true that people do even think up on selling when it hits 2x or 10x maximum yet i cant blame off on why those early adopters do sell off with those points and to those people who had totally forgoten does really get the maximum benefit because the price do really goes thousand in folds.

I could really say that it is somewhat mixed-up with some luck because no one had really anticipated that we would go this far.

Sorry for those who lost up money and sorry for those who sold early and never came back but its never been to late to engage once again.

Yes, you would have become a millionaires if you could have bought bitcoin 10 years ago because those investors that bought bitcoin 10 years ago are now a millionaires in the community. It was not easy for them to bear the market price over the 10 years than to hold and watch careful so that he or she will become a successful investors in the community. Now that the price of bitcoin has moved to $50k in the exchange market, it will be better for those investors who want to become a millionaires in the future to start buying bitcoin now so that they will be part of those that will enjoy the benefits of bitcoin in the future.

I don't think it's true either, because it's not just a case of bitcoin. When you buy any brand new altcoin, the important thing is how much you can hold in your hand. The best example is the person who bought $8000 Shiba tokens waited for more than 1 year and then earned billions of dollars. The real issue is where you buy the coin and where you sell it. This is not unique to Bitcoin.

if only 10 years ago we were in the crypto world and got bitcoins or we bought as many bitcoins at that time maybe we could release them in 2021 and I think we will become millionaires with the bitcoins we have today where we have saved it a few years ago this is not a back myth considering the current bitcoin price is much higher than 10 years ago maybe it is not impossible that someone can become a millionaire today if you buy bitcoin exactly 10 years ago

I have to agree with this. Been holding lots before but even I like to hold it, there's always a side on my mind that I need to sell those. The way Bitcoin price increase is on step by step mode meaning before, likely we are all weak hands selling to the price we think already in peak.

I'm amazed at those who are able to hold for several years. Your effort got rewarded. I don't have regrets about what I did. It's a good experience that I experienced holding lots before and that was now part of the history. :D

Depends.. how many coins are going to give you 100x returns in a year? Look at the performance for the past 12 months. We had maximum 2-3 such coins, out of tens of thousands. In the past it was easier to have such returns, since we were still in the early adopter phase. But during the last few years the exchange rates have gone up for almost all the coins and at this point we have almost hundred different cryptocurrencies with a market cap of $1 billion or more. The market looks quite saturated, IMO.

humans in life often get financial problems suddenly. So usually many people often sell their assets if they experience financial problems, so it is very difficult to hold Bitcoin for up to 10 years.

That is true. Many of us here are buying bitcoin mostly to gain profit and use that in addition to our expenses or in case of life emergencies. And now that I am thinking more about it, maybe this would be highly possible to happen if the capital used for investing in the first place is under the category of excess funds of people, then maybe the holding time could really last long.

I saw a video on YouTube about a woman who had about 300 Bitcoin at one point ( early days ). But when the interviewer asked her how many BTC she had now, she said "about a dozen". She'd spent all the rest funding a business and other things. Altogether she held those Bitcoin for about 3 years I think.

Let's not forget E-Gold. I remember when it came out, and it looked promising as the internet was just beginning to take off. But imagine investing $20,000 into E-Gold back then ( before Bitcoin ). You would have lost that money for sure...

Well bitcoin has raised it's price a lot in the previous ten years.
But being a billionaire by holding bitcoin is not too easy. You have to wait a lot to become a billionaire and this patience is not in most of the people.
Many people who have bought bitcoin ten years before must not be believing that it would be raised to such a high price and secondly when it undergoes dump they would sell it to avoid any loss.
So there will be only few who have hold this coin and now enjoying it's benefits

Yes what you have said is right. Most of those people who do say these are not even able to hold for long period. if they had that opportunity to invest 10 years ago, they wouldn’t have been able to hold it till now. They just say that because they now see that the price of Bitcoin is high, and they’re just wishing that they were able to invest earlier and hold till this time. none of them would have even held their Bitcoin till now.

Even if they try to hold it at that time, when it reached about $2000 or so, they would have rushed to sell their coins immediately, thinking that they have made enough profit and that Bitcoin has reached a really high price, they wouldn’t know that the increase in price would continue even till now.

That is not absolutely true, some persons still would have held maybe not all the numbers purchased. As a rule, I don't sell all my postion even though I hear a bad news, I have learnt some bad lessons by selling too cheaply, So, I don't easily sell and will never sell all postion it's part of my philosophy.

Most of them was, because that's what an investment do multiply the capital. So, when an investor sees an opportunity he would in no doubt sell especially when Bitcoin was at a very early stage back in the days. Nobody would have thought that it could have a value as much as $60,000 in just 11 years.

However, there might be a few people who trusted Bitcoin and sold them in 2015 or 2016 when Btc reached a thousand bucks. Who would have thought It could be more than just a thousand bucks back on that days as well.

I think this is the same case with every investment where its price skyrocketed in the market 5-10 years ago.

I started investing in BTC back in 2017 where its price was relatively equal to roughly ~$4,000. Unfortunately, if I had just HODL my BTCs, I would have earned roughly around ~$40,000 in BTC which would have helped my family in relieving the expenses incurred.

Though this may be the case, this fully taught me on how to HODL my BTCs for long-term gains. Given the inflationary nature of BTC, its price would inevitably skyrocket the more it reaches to the points where every BTC would be mined out.

However, there might be a few people who trusted Bitcoin and sold them in 2015 or 2016 when Btc reached a thousand bucks. Who would have thought It could be more than just a thousand bucks back on that days as well.

No one would ever thought that we would really be reaching this far and to those who had able to held even up to this year then i would say that they do have that diamond hands which is something a very rare person to be having like this kind of motivation and belief about bitcoins potential as a cryptocurrency.,
They had been rewarded out on the thing that theyve been holding for so long and we might able to see some 6 digits in the future
which would really be more a good spot for them if ever these holders would really tend to sell out their coins.

The most BTC I had ever acquired was roughly a little over 0.50 BTC, not a huge amount, but decent nonetheless. Do I regret spending them back in 2013? I do, however, OP's point is valid, we'd probably have sold when the price doubled or tripled. I remember buying at approximately $300-400, chances are, that I'd have sold them by the time it reached $600-800.

No one could have predicted that in 2021, Bitcoin would be worth a fortune, there's no point in regretting, nor thinking what we could have done differently. There's no way someone could have held for so much time, let's not forget 2017's all-time high too, which was the point I said to myself that it can't go any further, and decided to sell a good portion of my BTC.

In the environment around us we surely find more people who do not have patience, so it's not surprising that in the crypto world there are
very few people who can be patient holding Bitcoin for up to 10 years. Moreover, 10 years ago no one thought Bitcoin would be this expensive,
I also believe that even Satoshi Nakamoto as the creator of Bitcoin will be surprised by the price achievement of Bitcoin so far. So it's really difficult
to be able to hold Bitcoin for 10 years, so we don't have to regret that we didn't buy Bitcoin 10 years ago, and holding until now. I'm willing to bet
fewer people will dare and will successfully hold Bitcoin in the next 10 years starting from now on. Although we all recognize the possibility that
the price of Bitcoin in the next 10 years will be much more expensive than the current price. But it is difficult to hold Bitcoin for 10 years, it is not
an easy thing to do and most people will not be able to do it.

I agree, only certain people that are patient and lucky who have been using bitcoin for a long time. In the past, not many people knew and it was not as booming as it is now, and it was only when bitcoin exploded in price that investors began to take an interest in it. a patience will pay off so the saying goes, but not many can do it. it's okay because time goes on and we can't keep lamenting what has happened and will only make regrets continuously. the most important thing right now is to manage it well so that we can receive the results well because the results we get depend on how we manage them.

Of course it is true that at that time, 10 years ago, I was in the crypto world and bought as many bitcoins as I could and could release them right now or in 2021. Of course, we would be millionaires if we bought bitcoin at a low price. and we can release it at this time at a price that we can say is very out of bounds.and it is not impossible that someone at that time got bitcoin and sold it so that they could become billionaires or millionaires at the current bitcoin price

Thats true, no one can (or must not) HODL for ten years (or for indefinite time period). If you have bought BTC 10 years ago for 0.5$ (lets say) then its good that you sold if as soon as BTC hit 10$. Don't hodl btc for 10 years, just HODL it for one year and see the profit. I had few BTC in Dec 2020 when BTC was 10k, just imagine my holdings today after one year.

yes, this is what happened. in fact they will not be able to survive in a period of 10 years. when we think if 10 years ago invested in bitcoin and sell it now surely would be a millionaire. however, no one could survive, myself included. early 2020 I have bitcoin assets, but since there are profits I can no longer be patient to hold them.

You make a good point because most crypto investors are into it for profit but those that understand the benefit and the possible future movement of Bitcoin always choose to hold for the long term.
Mind you, Bitcoin was not popular when Erik Finman accepted it as payment and keep the bag. This is the reason why they said knowledge is power.

it is a great fortune if someone who bought bitcoin 10 years ago then forgot about it and thought back 10 years later and then sold it, but i think the lucky person is only 1%. it's not an easy matter to be able to hold back when they see the bitcoin they buy go up 2x or 10x, only those who really believe in bitcoin who definitely buy it ten years ago, store it and hold it until now.

When we bought BTC 10 years ago and we are still holding until now, exactly the amount must be multiple.
We can compare the price from 10 years ago and right now.
Btw, actually, there is some such kinds of investors of Bitcoin that use this kind of way of holding, long-term holders and they can take very big profits with BTC woned since several years ago.

But I agree if we bought in 10 years ago and we panic and also not patient, we will only regret of selling our Bitcoin some eyars ago when the price is not as high right now.

I think it can be true.

If you've been involved in Bitcoin since ten years ago, even if you sold some of it, you're probably going to have some non-trivial amount of bitcoin in different wallets that you've been using over the years. I don't think someone who was involved in it, keeping bitcoin in their own wallets, etc, would have sold everything and forgotten about it. Maybe someone that only bought once and kept it on an exchange, but not a true bitcoiner that has been playing around with the technology all these years.

This is why they say that trading and investing is all about keeping patience that all of us can’t keep. And those who have the patience to wait and see their money grow, often become profitable. I don’t think I would have been able to keep the bitcoin that I had bought 10 years ago because there was not much information about all this in the past, and chances are that I would have sold it on seeing its price fluctuate.

Right, 99% of the people that would have invested in Bitcoin back 10 years ago would have sold before it even got to $1k, and those that were still trying to figure out how they saved their PKs/PWs would certainly be amongst the few that believed in trying out this new thing and keep holding for much longer. Those were the early stage of Bitcoin and lots of investors weren't 100% sure of what they were investing in.

No time is too late to invest, you can still buy some coins now and probably hold for the next 10years who knows, maybe you'll make much more than your regrets.
But it's not always as easy as it is said, most times you buy and you're not able to patiently hold until it appreciates, at the end of the day, you'll still end up with regrets again.

People will usually choose to sell their Bitcoin while earning x2, x3 profit rather than to hold 10 years without any assurance that it can be x10, x100. Of course, I'll do the same. In fact, if I can make a profit x2 or x3 in every bullish, I can probably make more than x10 less than 10 years.
10 years is too tough for me to hold, I can't assure that. Maybe this is suitable for rich people who don't mind their investment but for us who valued every pump, I don't think we are not get tempted to sell our Bitcoin.

I can relate to that. If we can make profits consistently, then we  can earn more than we can gain from 10 years of hodling. But i doubt if people will still be hodling for 10 years if in the first place they are already eager to make profits. Yes, we can be millionaires if we   have bought bitcoin 10 years ago and decide to sell it now, but it will be a long waiting game and a very hard game for us. I'm definitely one of those who can't hodl it for that long, but i don't regret selling my bitcoin earlier as i still never lose but did a great job and still gain good returns.

I think whenever we buy bitcoin as long as we can manage and use it well then we will also get a big profit. so it depends on how we manage our bitcoin assets. but indeed, people who first bought bitcoins in the early of their emergence would have gotten a big profit if they could hold it until the bitcoin price jumped up at that time. especially if they used to buy a lot of bitcoin and now the price is skyrocketing. but whatever it is, each individual has their own way and we should not compare them with others. focus on what we want to achieve within ourselves and don't give up easily with the ups and downs of the crypto market.

which those impressions would really be that in common and people would really make out those early sell regrets but well we cant really turn back the time and lets just move on and
be wise on how to deal with this investment.I might be also a millionaire now if i havent sold off my bitcoins too back in the past but only on local currency
i do have.

Not only would you have been tempted to sell, but you'd also be at risk of leaving the bitcoin on a centralized exchange that could go bust or of eventually losing the private keys. We hear stories on occasion of people trying to dig up their bitcoin from the local landfill. Millions of bitcoin were lost over the years, and bitcoin continues to become lost.

You are contradicting yourself op which is why you need to improve your brainpower. It is obvious that some crypto investors who purchased and held BTC until it exploded in value in recent years became instant millionaires.

It's very, very difficult to HODL BTC for such a long period of time, but it isn't impossible. It's all about patience, trust and luck basically.

I agree with you at some points.

There are many people who are regretting of not knowing it sooner. However, if they were to know it a little bit early, it still isn't guaranteed that they will trust bitcoin so much that they will hold everything they own until they can, most especially knowing that bitcoin has a little value before. Only a few people actually held all of their coins up until this date without selling even a portion of what they had initially invested in it. Because before, only a small population ever really believed in bitcoin's potential. I remember a story of a man who just used his bitcoins just to buy some pizza because who would have anticipated that a coin will have so much value in the future, right? Only a few and those few people are smart and lucky ones.

But still, those who managed to invest before bitcoin really peaked and boomed are still considered lucky even though they weren't able to buy it during the time it has little to no value yet. I suppose they still made a large profit and maybe some even became millionaires if they managed to hold until the ATH. It still isn't too late to invest after all. Just make sure to know when is the best time to enter the market and when to take profits. With the supply and demand of bitcoin, who knows how much it will cost in the future. Only time would tell and I hope those people who opt to trust bitcoin will harvest the fruit of their patience big time during that time. Right now, everyone has been given the chance to invest in it before it skyrockets again, the choice is still yours. DYOR.

It may probably be like this, we must also take into account that the price of BTC 10 years ago was a unique opportunity, at the moment the opportunity is still standing, many say that it can continue to fall more, but it is still a good opportunity to buy If we take into account that BTC is a store of value in 10 more years it will be something impossible to acquire, because if nothing else the S2F model gives for $ 100k then $ 288k, in 10 years how much could it be? And this is not impossible, it is very possible that it will happen.

That's true some Bitcoin holders don't have the patience to hold for a long time, but again we still have Steel hand-holders who bought Bitcoin at $50 and are still holding up till now not minding the price at any moment but waiting for the time set before selling. Some set a 20-year timeframe.

You are correct. No human being would have had such patience to hodl onto bitcoin for so long back then without being forced to sell it when he or she has seen many gains in his or her portfolio. We human beings are always in a haste to make quick gains. We don't have patience because we always believe that investments made today can go bad tomorrow. It's better to withdraw all our investment, now there are profits, to avoid stories that touched the heart later that you didn't withdraw when there are profits.
Up till now, we keep selling our bitcoin for pennies. Forgetting that bitcoin might hit a million dollars in 10-15years time

Oh, I'm not sure they wouldn't be able to hold on for 10 years, it ain't that long of a period. If anything, if it was bought in the early stages of bitcoin, good chances some might even forget they got it 5 years in, and then they could hold on to it for another 5 years and that's it. At least that seems plausible to me. And if some of them are serious investors, then they might be used to long term investments.

10 years is already a very long time of waiting, but certainly worth the wait. Although holding for long term is more common with current investors, but in this very long time frame, a lot of chances to make profits has been very visible in the market. And mostly investors and holders take every opportunities that can certainly offer them huge profits after hodling. This is the reason why only few millionaires arise from 10 year hodling because of lack of patience and perseverance.

What the op has said is true. Although there might be people who would be able to hold for long term, but it would be just very few of them. The people who are saying that they regret not buying and holding for ten years are only saying that because of how far that bitcoin n has gone, and because they have seen that the price increased and some got rich through it.

If it was never like that, all these people wouldn’t come out to say such and they would even be happy that they didn’t invest in it or that they sold on time. Back then Bitcoin was still new and none of them had it in mind that it would grow this and any slightest increase would make them to sell their coins for sure, to get profit.

I totally agree that only a few and what OP claims that buying bitcoin 10 years ago wouldn't make you a millionaire is totally not true since there's people that have managed to do so, yes it's impossible but given how young bitcoin is and the timespan, we just couldn't perceive how patient some people are to wait for their investment to go up.

But in reality very few people are able to survive that far, I take some examples from the environment where I write this. When the price of bitcoin goes up, many people take advantage of it. I don't think it's a mistake, because it's possible that they've already got the results they wanted. Again this is my perspective.

It’s a pity that I couldn’t buy bitcoins ten years ago. Now I would be one of the richest people. Since I and many other people simply did not believe in this cryptocurrency. And they thought it was just a hoax. And now, when bitcoin has grown in price very much, many regret that they have lost such an amazing opportunity to buy bitcoin at a very low price. Now I always listen very carefully to new business projects that have good potential in order to make excellent profits in the future.

Holding is the key in this.

This is completely true and in a way logical, there are very few assets be it equity, crypto, etc. which have potentials to give good returns. For traders a 5% return is considered good and equity investors consider a return of 12% to be a good year.
There would be very few people who wouldve voluntarily left their money invested without forgetting it.And in all fairness it is logical a 2x-3x return is excellent and we can always re-invest instead of hoping for a 10000x and hoping for a miracle.

Buying bitcoin 10 years ago doesn't mean it's a reason to be rich, but it also requires a belief in bitcoin itself. Those who sell panic are those with low confidence.

In 2009, this cryptocurrency was worth only a few cents. Today it is worth over 50,000.

This just goes to shows that anyone can become a millionaire if they invest wisely in crypto and bitcoin. People normally waste their investments by selling it too early and are happy with few X profits when they could literally make much more than that. There are many coins which can still make us millionaire, but we need to invest wisely.

Well, in fact, it is. 10 years ago, after all, bitcoin was worth very different money. And buying bitcoin at that time was a very profitable and correct decision.
That's fact but another fact is that there's low in confidence and many were confused and unsure about the future of bitcoin. So, those who have sold into the ATHs of the past were witness of it. They thought that it's not going anywhere and those ATHs in the past were already the top of it.
While those who really have held for a long time, they're the ones that likely have forgotten their wallets and the others are really faithful and belief to the future of bitcoin.

In crypto we dont know wts the top and wts the bottom, in fact we cant say this in any form of trading. I say about myself, I set a target price on which to sell the coin usually its about 20 - 40% gain. We cant hold a coin for indefinite period of time since we have invested money and need profit for our living. IMO there is no point in hodling coin forever.

But in reality very few people are able to survive that far, I take some examples from the environment where I write this. When the price of bitcoin goes up, many people take advantage of it. I don't think it's a mistake, because it's possible that they've already got the results they wanted. Again this is my perspective.
I also doubt that there are people who have held for that long, the number is definitely small. However, I'm almost certain that most forgotten wallets were dug at 2017's ATH, which was phenomenal for that time being. Definitely, there were a few found at last December's ATH, I even found myself two wallets with balance in them, but the number of people who suddenly remembered that Bitcoin exists is slim.

When I bought bitcoin 10 years ago, I would have been a millionaire. I said it was the right thing. I speculate that this statement speaks not of who holds it the longest, but the profit it makes if we sell it now. When it comes to, very few people will last very long, that's a real thing. But in this context they are two different things.

If some rich or middle class person invested $1,000 or $10,000 into BTC early, they had no reason to liquidate at 2x profit, because they didn't need those money anytime soon and could afford to risk and wait more. I won't be surprised if that's how many of the current whales were made - they kept hodling because they could afford to lose their investment

I could not agree with you more, it's in the nature of the people to sell it if they manage to make their profits to as much as 3x. And really, there's only few who manage to hold their investments for 10years and that falls on the category of people who make many investments other than cryptocurrency. Also, bitcoin isn't that quite famous and trustworthy 10 years ago than it what it is now. The idea of holding bitcoin for a few years was I think only began on 2016 up until now and only sell the profits.

@Rufsilf I agree no one has that kind of patience that is needed. If someone was able to hold the bitcoin he surely would have been a millionaire as I also think the same today.
But it wasn’t easy for people like me to hold for such a long period due to the falling value. Everyone can not bear the losses.

I would like to add some more precious things as not just buying and holding Bitcoin for 10+ years rather switching it to the right cryptocurrency timely to get much higher returns on occupied assets in the real world. As for now, we are seeing many altcoins already jumped like a skyrocket boost. Investing in such valuable coins can also make anyone, not just a millionaire even a billionaire or trillionaire.

Still crypto is the initial phase, and since it comes to market, it has opened many new doors with new dimensions of business. Nowadays Defi, NFT, LP, Minting, Staking are on the fly. And in the coming future, there will be definitely a new era of the decentralized world that will explore new business models to the world.
