I contribute two charts and I hope it can be helpful for this topic by presenting an overview on what's going on the forum in 2021. - Most of posts come from Altcoin boards & Trading/ Discussion board (first chart) Spam still overwhelms the forum
- For other boards which have less than 30k posts in total in 2021, fortunately some important boards have top positions (second chart): Development& Technical Discussion; Bitcoin Technical Support; Project Development

Just from having a brief look, it surprises me over 50% of the posts come from the altcoin boards !!
I thought this was bitcointalk - maybe I shouldn’t be so surprised -lol.
1. Marketplace (altcoins) - 38.43%
3. Altcoin Discussion - 7.07%
6. Mining (altcoins) - 4.57%
7. Announcements (altcoins) - 4.27%
11. Speculation (altcoins) - 1.82%
TOTAL. 56.16%
Personally I never go near these boards - lol

Just from having a brief look, it surprises me over 50% of the posts come from the altcoin boards !!
I thought this was bitcointalk - maybe I shouldn’t be so surprised -lol.
There are hundreds of current bounties on going and thousands of signature campaigners out there. Most of the campaign requires 10 posts a week to get the stake. All the sig campaigners contribute in those boards because those boards are less moderated. I think number of active reporters on that board are also low. So, at the end, those boards generate more posts, less moderation (less report), number of posts get increased. As they say, "alternate cryptocurrency boards are the heaven for spammers." They say that for a reason.

Hi Ratimov, could you please tell me about the timeframe you used to count this post count? I took the time to recalculate the number of posts for 2021 for the Indonesian Local Board, but I got a different number from your count. I started counting posts using date range 01-01-2021 00:00:01 - 31-12-2021 23:59:59 where the number is 13,373 posts for the whole year. Thanks, I was also surprised when I received these numbers. Moreover, the Marketplace (Altcoins) section has grown almost 4 times over the year (!!!). Of course, such large numbers are there due to the fact that many shillers, paid posters, spammers and multi accounts are concentrated in these sections. In terms of useful posts, those sections are taken by quantity, not quality.
Marketplace (Altcoins) includes Bounties (Altcoins), which is link farm garbage, has no useful content, is basically unmoderated, and is incentivized with worthless shit tokens. I'm surprised it's not 90%+ of forum posts TBH.

It would be interesting to have some figures about the Gambling section which is IMO one of the most spammed section of the forum with a huge daily amount of useless posts from non-gamblers.

Quite a number of active users posted on the gambling and child board sections throughout 2021, it was recorded that 4,553 users were recorded as having posted at least 1 in the gambling or child board sections with a total of 291,531 posts made regardless of whether they were gamblers or not. It's interesting how most posts on Bitcointalk were made during November-December. Especially December since it's a month of holidays and social and family gatherings. I guess the positive trend of the whole market coupled with the never-ending Coronavirus craziness has resulted in people spending more time online. I include myself in those stats.
The Altcoin boards and bounties are on top. I thought the community would have a more negative stance towards them taking into account all the scams and failures we have witnessed in the past. I was wrong. A lot of the activity is surely caused by DeFi and NFT topics, and most of all by bounty reports.

Marketplace (Altcoins) includes Bounties (Altcoins), which is link farm garbage, has no useful content, is basically unmoderated, and is incentivized with worthless shit tokens. I'm surprised it's not 90%+ of forum posts TBH.
It not surprising to see Altcoins Marketplace with highest percentage of post because there are not many people who are reporting spam and off-topic posts there. I think I never posted anything in that board, but it's hard enough to moderate Bitcoin Discussion, I could only imagine how it would be for Altcoin Marketplace. Interesting to see that total number of posts in all forum increased while number of written posts in most board decreased or stayed the same. 1000 most active users

There is no wonder that bounty section is in the leading position but surprisingly the marketplace is in the second position probably due to the all combined sub bords including gambling and its discussion board.
Well, if there is any way to find how many of the posts have the word "Bitcoin" in it no matter whether they are located in which section can be another interesting stat too because this is bitcointalk so I hope bitcoin is in the first place than any other cryptocurrencies here.

One of the best ways is to ignore the bounty board from the count so you'll get some great posters on the list. Specifically for altcoin discussion without child board, here is a list of 200. Very good work @Ratimov. As you might know, I have a monthly updated thread on the “Italian board meta analysis” [Meta] Andamento sezione italiana (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5214672) I was looking to ad some sort of yearly recap, and I think I found something worthy to include! I have only two observations: - I noticed a global downtrend in posting activity. It is something I have been noticing in the past, and I think it is closely related to the diminished appeal of an old style forum towards newer users, who are more accustomed to more modern media: chats, iM, or any other real-time of quasi-real time communication tool.
- I am quite surprised by the Turkish board too. Given the TRY gyrations I would have thought a more interest in using bitcoin (so more posting) to preserve their value.

Personally, I find it sad that we are seeing less and less activity in the "Development & Technical Discussion" and "Project Development" boards. If I could venture a guess, I'd say we're seeing less activity and conversations because for the most part, many developers have moved on and are focusing on other open source projects.

@Ratimov, you have done a good work. This is a clear insight in the activities of the forum and the activeness of the forum users. Meanwhile I saw a glaring difference among the posting dynamics of different boards. For instance; Technical Support Board and Development Board recorded a somewhat declined participation compared to the Altcoin section. Before I'll analyse the reason in my own perspective. I collected the below quote in this thread of @fillippone Is Bitcointalk.org losing user base? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php? topic=5349708.msg57479450#msg57479450) There has been an increase in the number of users who registered their accounts on the forum from July 18, 2021 to today where there have been around 75,244 new profiles registered since then. Meanwhile, the active user base in the last 3 months has decreased from 122,470 in July 2021 to 93,906 users. Decreasing the base like this depends on the user's own interest in using the forum, they can be active at any time which affects the number without or doing activities. I think the addition of new users can be expected to continue to happen with or without bitcointalk social media like youtube.
From the above quote, it is seen that there is an increase number of registered accounts, yet decrease number of users. This can be caused by one or more of the following reasons; - Some technical gurus of the forum has stopped using the forum
- Some users are more interested in financial gain than knowledge. That is why more participationis seen in altcoins section where information about pump and dump and so on can be seen.
- The knowledge of bitcoin is becoming more universal, so some technical issues are no longer brought to the forum
- Reduced number of spammers maybe because of the merit system
- Personally I noticed that from May last year, which was the month I joined the forum, number of good posts in Bitcoin Discussion board reduced towards October till date. I don't know why.
These are the reasons I do not fail to appreciate anyone who is contributing to the success of the forum at anytime in anyway, because it is not easy to remain consistent over the years.

Because you both mentioned the Development & Technical Discussion board, let's see how things have been in the past year based on sources include child board. There were 27,404 posts (some may have been removed or moved) during 2021 on the Development & Technical Discussion board. Number of posts made by 2236 users in the last year, I didn't compare it to the previous year but this is a quick overview for the Development & Technical Discussion board in a year. The number of active users is much less than other boards including bitcoin discussion or other boards. I don't think this describes about whether or not someone cares about bitcoin, because basically people's interest in bitcoin will never be the same. It could be that people are more interested in using bitcoin as a means of payment, investment and so on. You won't really be able to tell them as someone who doesn't support bitcoin, but it just depends on the interest.
