Post by: DaveF on January 24, 2022, 08:27:39 PM
Yeah, the title kind of says it all.
Just wanted to complain about it and the pain.
Regular BTC & crypto posts to resume soon.

My dad had three.
My father-in-law one.

Surgery can be very painful.

My father-in-law had testicles swell as large as baseballs ⚾️ for three or four days after the surgery.

Yeah, I got 3 left and right inguinal and an umbilical.
Had one fixed yesterday once this heals start on the next one.
Mr. Ice Pack is my friend.
The surgery actually hurts a lot more then the hernias themselves.

The surgery actually hurts a lot more then the hernias themselves.

My father had a hernia operation when I was a teenager and I remember him in a very bad mood after the surgery. He doesn't like to take medicine and wouldn't take what they gave him for the pain.

Cheer up, DaveF, the pain will lessen.

I'm at the 48 hour post surgery point now.
Staying in 1 position, whatever it is, is fine.
Going from sitting to standing, laying down to sitting. All that kind of stuff hurts.
Walking is OK.

They said Percocet every 4 hours or so. Trying to really not do that, it takes care of the pain, but makes me really feel off.

Thanks for the good thoughts everyone.

You're on the right track, you need just a little more patience (and probably some painkillers too, unfortunately).
Get well soon!

Been there, done that! After all that years I still feel the cut when the weather is bad. And the weird feeling of no sense of touch on the skin around the area of the cut.
No bueno!

I'm probably a bit late now, but maybe useful for the others: A tip we often give out is to hold a rolled up towel against the wound when you need to stand up, cough, etc. Gives it a bit of support and some people find it helps with the pain.

Hope you are well on the mend!

I have heard a lot of people say that they the scar tissue feels weird.

I am now at the 1 week point, and although it does feel much better, I had hoped to be a lot more functional then I am.
The transitions from position to position still hurt a lot.
Seeing Dr. tomorrow, lets see what he says.

Been doing that, it's fine when you know you are going to be moving. It's the sudden cough, sneeze, that get me.
Didn't know you were in the medical profession. (assuming you just don't go out and give random medical advice)

A few days over 3 weeks after surgery.
Better, still not good.

Turns out it was larger then they saw on the scans. Surgeon did not tell me sooner after the operation since it really did not matter at that point. Didn't want to stress me.
He needed 3 pieces of mesh to make the repair. Oops, Dave broke himself good....

Can function, just moving slow and can't move in certain ways without my body letting me know about it.
Not taking anything stronger then Advil / Aleve.

My late dad had 3.  WHEN they meshed him at 46 the third op it never broke again.

He died at 82 from a different issue. So he got 36 good years of repair with the mesh.

But 6-8 weeks for recovery can be common.

Hang in there .

well it is done. I got home via lyft a few hours ago.

My typical reaction to the phyental is puking when i wake up from it.

so puked 3 times in recovery room. stoppedwhen the gave me third anti nausea shot.

my thoughts are it fucking hurts but i think i can tough it out and not use the painkillers.

I will know how much it hurts when all drug wear off.

oh the doctor asked me when was my last colonoscopy i said 13 years ago.

he said i got a guy with a deeper brooklyn accent then mine. so on thursday i did that. looked good.

and added bonus of being empty for the hernia today.

hoping it heals well.

i did it early it was small and umbilical which is easier then groin based ones.

i will do a lot of paperwork next 2-3 weeks.

file my 2021 taxes and some other stuff.

get the a1hashratellc website fixed etc.

Get well soon. The 1st few days are rough, but after that so long as you plan your movements it's not bad. And as I said, Mr. Ice Pack is your friend.
Don't try to tough it out without the pain meds. I didn't 'need' them but it did make some things just easier to do.

I guess depending on the age it takes a bit longer to recover if you are 40+ but after a month it will be much less pain when you move or trying to stand up. Just avoid lifting heavy things (1-2 kg are really a thing at that stage). Also try not catching a cold or coughing that hurts like hell...
I wishing you a good quick recovery mate!

Follow up Pain is gone my belly button looks better than ever. ( I had an umbilical hernia) .

The 3 entry wounds on my side for the endoscopic surgery are not swollen and my but I think the will scar just a bit.

All in all not terrible experience. I go for final follow up on Nov 21st.

So surgery was Aug 5.
BY Sept 10 pain was gone
By Oct 1 belly button appeared fully healed
By Oct 31 three endoscopic entry wounds fully healed with all swelling gone.

Umbilical Hernias caught early are easier to fix and this was an okay experience.

glad youre feeling better. :)

this old age thing.. used to be i had to do something stupid to hurt myself.. now i can sneeze and blow my back out for days. looks to be a single level fusion sometime next year is in the cards for me.

heck even sitting in a recliner i can feel things go *pop* in my body.

they need to hurry with the life extension goods while my body still has some OEM parts in it.

Happy to say full recovery zero pain very happy I did it.

I was very motivated because I saw what happened to my dad and my father in law due to the both of them waiting far too long to do it.

Follow up it has been one year and eight/nine months .

Recovery is even better I can lift full 12 card gpu rigs. I also shut down the mine and moved a 26 foot truck filled with gear . More than 10,000 pounds of gear..

I just did new surgery on my deviated septum about 11-12 days ago it sucks but not the same way the hernia op did.
