Title: [PHISING] Be Careful, Metamask Will Not Ask You To Complete KYC
Post by: masulum on February 18, 2022, 02:08:18 PM
Today I got an email that reads something like this:

https://i.postimg.cc/bN1Fr4zN/image.png (https://i.postimg.cc/bN1Fr4zN/image.png)

At first glance, novice metamask users will believe that this is really from Metamask. Because the hyperlink below is like from metamask.io, which in fact will refer to
Code:
don't try to open this address:
asnconcept.com
https://i.postimg.cc/85Bjj1nm/image.png

- This is a 100% fake email,
- Never open a link in an email like this.
- Metamask is a Decentralizednon-custodial Wallet (mk4 corrections), which Metamask will not ask you to provide an email to register an account.
- Wallet created from Metamask is a wallet that you can store the key by yourself. so, there is no term suspended account.

Remember

- Do not rush to believe the email you receive
- Always see the sender first before the content of the email
- Metamask cannot suspend your account
- Metamask does not require KYC
- Do not click link.
- Before deleting an email, don't forget to mark the sender as spam

- Metamask is a Decentralized Wallet, which Metamask will not ask you to provide an email to register an account.

- Metamask is a Decentralizednon-custodial Wallet. It's centralized; but not necessarily a bad thing because most great non-custodial wallets are centralized anyway. Probably the only actually-decentralized wallet we have available today is Bitcoin Core alone.

Ok, you've lost me here!
What is a centralized non-custodial wallet cause my own definitions about this are somehow painting a really blurry picture right now.
You've said Bitcoin core is the only one so, is Electrum a centralized wallet?

@masulum
Now time to wonder who sold your email and to how many scammers. ;D
One of the reasons my crypto-related important accounts don't share the email with any other services anymore, on top of the security I can at least pinpoint where the breach happened and who is lying to not share my details with anyone.

I meant centralized in a way where the software is being developed by a centralized team, but the software is totally open source. ;D

As for Electrum, I'm actually not sure? Probably far less centralized compared to typical wallet software due to probably Electrum having a lot of outside contributors. So yes we could probably call it decentralized.

The email that I opened is the email that I previously registered to join the bounty campaign and mostly i used for social media, not my main email. because I never publish my main email except to apply for a job. It's been a long time since I joined the bounty campaign. I still open this email very often, because there may be an updates from the project team that I followed before.

Hovering your computer mouse on links and you will see real links and if they are shortened links, you can copy and paste them into https://redirectdetective.com/, you will get real full links.

Metamask does not store user seeds and all is stored on your computer. So that it is unreasonable to have KYC requirement.

By definition it still decentralized. So everyone is fucking liar when they mentioned decentralized? Yes maybe it is developed by a project/private which considered centralized but they make sure their software or application doesnt have any bias or access by them isnt it? Cause that would be totally confusing and deception to users if they have.  Confused also when you mentioned centralized on that one.
