Title: What if Bitcoin Fails ?
Post by: Oluwa-btc on February 28, 2022, 12:36:18 PM
1/ If Bitcoin fails, Privacy Fails

The ability for individuals to send & receive value peer-to-peer without the interference of government & the banking system will be lost. Bitcoin allows for a future where anyone can have private access to their money.

2)  If Bitcoin fails, Censorship Wins

We are in an unprecedented age of censorship. Bitcoin is the most secure network that has ever been built. Resilient, antifragile, & permission-less. Open to anyone in the world. There is nothing else like it. Bitcoin can’t be censored.

3) If Bitcoin Fails, Big Government Wins

The government can lose hundreds of billions annually but want us to report every time we spend over $600. There is no government accountably or transparency in our system. Without Bitcoin we lose the only counterweight to that system.

4)  If Bitcoin fails, Central Banks Win

Unelected bureaucrats decide the value of your labor & time. Money is the way we store the value of our time on this earth.  No one should have the power to inflate the value of your time away from you. Bitcoin’s set 21MM supply fixes this.

5) If Bitcoin fails, Free Speech fails

Bitcoin is code. Letters & numbers. A private key is all you need to be able to store, transport & transact value with. Never in human history has speech & language been this powerful. The freedom to speak is the most basic of human rights.

6) If Bitcoin fails, Objective Truth is Lost

"What is truth?” has never been more convoluted. You can find experts on both sides with “internet facts” supporting them. Bitcoin is the only thing we have that is truly objective & transparent. The longest chain speaks for itself.

7) If Bitcoin fails, The Energy Transition Fails

If the hope is to transition to a new energy future, we need Bitcoin, the energy buyer of first & last resort. Bitcoin monetizes energy waste & incentivizes new & efficient energy resources. Energy & Bitcoin are nearly synonymous.

8 )  If Bitcoin fails, Capitalism Fails

There is no CEO of Bitcoin. Bitcoin gained value organically, from the bottom up. The Network represents the spirit of capitalism harnessed in code. Self-interest combined with innovation & ingenuity. If you value capitalism, value Bitcoin.

9 )  If Bitcoin fails, We Will Own Nothing

We don’t own anything of value. Property & money are regulated & stored with custodians. You don’t own it; you just have a claim. With Bitcoin, the value of your life’s work can be stored in a few words. Free to take with you anywhere.

10 ) Bitcoin is too important to fail

If you value freedom, transparency, and truth, then you should want Bitcoin to succeed
If you value oppression, censorship, and corruption, then you should want Bitcoin to fail

We can't let Bitcoin fail.

3) If Bitcoin Fails, Big Government Wins
I can't say this because many big governments like USA, EU and many countries in Afrca support bitcoin, many governments do not accept bitcoin but accept their citizens to trade it, but anyone trading bitcoin in such country is on its own, but allowed. Only few countries banned cryptocurrencies totally, countries like China.

Bitcoin can not fail, especially not because of fiat that bitcoin will fail because fiat held today will have less value tomorrow and the more times passes, the more fiat are worthless.

Most countries in Africa don't permit Bitcoin transaction down till this moment, not even United States and most European countries.
Bitcoin has come to solve problems fiat hasn't not to compete with fiat, the rapid adoption of Bitcoin fiat will loss it's value gradually.

I think you are wrong @Oluwa-btc. Some Africa countries don't presently recognizing Bitcoin, but that doesn't makes it illegal. Let take Nigeria for example, their Central Bank doesn't recognize and trade Bitcoin and other Cryptocurrency. But, Bitcoin transaction are been done daily within the citizens with the help of peer-2-peer. And also if you conduct your research, you will discover that Nigeria is listed under the top 5 countries with the most Bitcoin holders. However, with the popularity of Bitcoin within the Global, I don't think it can probably fall.

That tweet is by a fellow who is into large scale bitcoin mining.

Sure none of want it to fail but i think what potential effects Bitcoin could have had is more about Bitcoin's actual distribution. The actual distribution is pretty concentrated at the top. This is where most of the wealth is sitting and not being put to use to improve the ecosystem. (Except the occasional grants from pioneers like Jack who are truly all in).

If this continues to happen, not only will bitcoin fail, it will also quickly become irrelevant.

Its all fine and dandy but what bothers me here is that not a single sentence in that post is yours, you just copy/pasted that guy Max Gagliardi's tweet thread without making it obvious to everyone that all this is verbatim copy. While you covered yourself by sharing the link at the bottom, that's simply not how these things are supposed to be done if you are to follow posting etiquette.

So, if you plan to create similar topics in the future, put all verbatim copy inside quotations and make sure to add something of your own instead just sharing someone else's thoughts without commenting on the issue.

I saw the copy and paste work like op that wants further issues of been tag plagiarism, i can't blame him indecencies that is a fresher, an experience user will do exactly what you portray, reading from the link it's very obvious they was no changes, i may say from my perspective maybe op is afraid of committing paraphrasing. Your observation is ideal and i agree with you.

Well, according to bitcointalk rules this is not plagiarism as long as he shared reference link (that he did), no matter how you format the copied text. Regarding paraphrasing, there is no need for that either, it's ok to verbatim copy someone else's text but as long as youformat it properly and share your own opinion on that matter and both of those things OP failed to do.

And yeah, I do understand that for many people this is the first time that they are active on some forum so they are maybe not aware of the stuff like that.

I disagree with this one because precious metals could take BTC's place instead. To avoid government/institutional management, we could trade with bars of gold or coins of silver. Granted, metals are way easier to steal than BTC is, and BTC is easier to trade with and carry, but it's not an absolute "we will own nothing".

I know quit well that you are right, coping an article and format it properly with the source is not against the protocols of the community, according to the rules and regulations of the community, the only factor I'm considering is that the users is a newbie and maybe it has not come in contact with the rules and regulations of the community in order to know what is obtainable by formatting a text, i believe is following the thread in order to notice some lapses if op wishes, what he really needs is our directions as you fish out some tangible points. Because theirs a way we shall blame op it will be discouraged op, that's from my view.

Yeah I understand that many are not aware of the proper text formatting when copying someone else's text, hence my advice. From my experience, majority of members that I warned about that actually improved and started doing these things properly so not all is lost.

Bitcoin can’t fail. It has already succeeded. Blockchain technology is out of the bag and people have a new way of fighting financial oppression in the digital age. So even if Bitcoin’s price goes to zero, it will not be a failure. It has opened the eyes of many and shown that the revolution will be monetized. With politicians jumping on board the train, it’s really only a matter of time before Bitcoin, or some other form of blockchain technology takes over the current financial system without so much as firing a shot. Welcome to the future where what can be accomplished digitally surpasses what one can accomplish with an army.

1/ If Bitcoin fails, Privacy Fails

Not really. BTC is just one of the things that are battling the ever-growing threat to privacy. So no, privacy in itself will not fail.

2)  If Bitcoin fails, Censorship Wins

BTC can fail for multiple reasons and not one of them needs to be because it was censored, so no.

3) If Bitcoin Fails, Big Government Wins

Yes, I can agree on that, it's definitely a win for institutionalized financial systems.

5) If Bitcoin fails, Free Speech fails

BTC has really nothing to do with freedom of speech.

6) If Bitcoin fails, Objective Truth is Lost

Not really. BTC did not perpetrate objective truth nor will it effect it.

8 )  If Bitcoin fails, Capitalism Fails

Capitalism does not favor privacy and the freedom to control your own funds, so no, that's a wrong assumption.

10 ) Bitcoin is too important to fail

It is, but it's also not the only one. If BTC fails, there are other avenues in crypto that can continue what BTC started.

This is like a marketing or a promotional advertisement on Bitcoin. And just like any typical marketing ad, there is a certain amount of exaggeration added to it to make it look like it is everything that you need. Having said this, while there are some truths in some of those lines, I don't agree with all of them completely. It's made to look like the world would be a hell of an awful place without Bitcoin, that Bitcoin is the sinew of a truly free, democratic, peaceful, happy, and abundant world. That might not be true at all.

Though technology is the main objective why Bitcoin is succeed, but I don't think Bitcoin will survive if the price goes to zero. That's mean no one is interested with Bitcoin anymore and no one is using Bitcoin for anything, not even enough to buy a candy. However I tend to agree Bitcoin can't fail, even there's a new currency with better technology to compete Bitcoin, at least Bitcoin's price will decrease but goes to zero.

Given the achievements that bitcoin has made in the past 2021, it is hard to say that bitcoin will fail in the coming years. Along with technology and widespread acceptance, bitcoin is increasingly playing an important role in driving the world economy. The most recent example is the war between Russia and Ukraine. Ukraine uses cryptocurrency as a charity that raises funds from around the world. There is no denying the importance of blockchain and decentralization today. Bitcoin is the origin of crypto, if bitcoin fails then crypto will hardly survive.

All those "if this...then that" correlations aren't correct all the time.
The "If Bitcoin fails, privacy fails" statements is simply wrong, because Bitcoin isn't as private as you think it is.
There are privacy coins like Monero, that are solving the privacy problem way better than Bitcoin.
The "big governments" aren't fighting against BTC,they just regulate it.The failure of Bitcoin doesn't necessarily mean that big government has won an imaginary "battle" against BTC.
All those points in your list are oversimplifying the nature of Bitcoin/crypto and it's relations to the world.
Like another forum member has mentioned, this list looks more like some sort of marketing/promotion message, aimed at the "average Joe",who still doesn't understand how Bitcoin works.
There are better ways to explain the complexity of the Bitcoin/blockchain technology.

You are putting a very big responsibility on this technology and I think it is not justified to do that. Satoshi Nakamoto wanted to give people a technology that would give them an alternative choice for a payment system. Satoshi lost faith in the Banking system after tax payers money were spend to bailout Banks... so he provided an alternative payment option to the Fiat system.

The technology on it's own will not fail, but the influence from governments to provide the technology to fly, will determine it's future. So the failure will be caused by the restrictions placed on the technology from the global governments.  >:(

Well, I've a different perspective to all that "Bitcoin failing" theory. It's a pessimistic way of looking at it. I called it pessimism because it's an unnecessary fear of government succeeding in destroying Bitcoin. I don't think that's feasible from that angle, seeing that some countries are already keying into the Bitcoin movement now. If Bitcoin will fail, it won't be failing as in the sense that it wouldn't be in operation anymore as a cryptocurrency. It would be that certain alts took over that reign of dominance from it because of ground breaking innovations and utilities they're able to come up with; not just as the mere channel of payment Bitcoin is reputable for. Most alts are coming up with smart contracts and that could help them gain enough patronage.

Yeah, it’s already succeeded, but it is also up to all of us to keep it that way. We should all make sure that we do the right thing. And how are we going to do the right thing? By making that we secure every space and not give them (the government) any chance to penetrate. The way I see it, Bitcoin is not going to fail, even the government knows that there is no way they will be able to stop Bitcoin, so what they are trying to do now is to adopt it and regulate. Because they know that even if they decide to ban, it doesn’t stop people from making use of it through peer to peer.

It shouldn't be allowed to take control by the governments, and how this can be made possible. Only by the spread of bitcoin among the common people than getting accumulated within few. If a country like USA or some other country get into the usage of bitcoin, automatically they'll try to accumulate majority of the mined coins. In that situation bitcoin can be easily manipulated and this makes bitcoin loss its key element of decentralised functioning. Hope such scenario won't happen.

Bitcoin didn’t exist before and we were able still to do transactions via bank or p2p. If bitcoin fails we will only go back in older method of transactions as well of investing. Some still didn’t bitcoin exist so it will not bother them , only those who already know crypto will be affected but soon we know that there will be new inventions or method that might be alike in crypto if ever bitcoin fails.
If bitcoin runs out existence nothing that will come up as a result of resemblance, because if theirs new innovations that looks like bitcoin it will not gather the firm or the influence Bitcoin has possessed for the intervals of the Years it come to board, from ny perspective the level Bitcoin has ascertain right now i don't think it will fail until fifty (50) years time, the only thing i know that will be happening into cryptocurrency generation is changes and regulations.

Actually bitcoin always fails but everytime it fails it gave us opportunity to make profits..

Infact how many times did you see bitcoin price fell from the current ATH? Because to be honest with you i cant count it..  :D

Bitcoin got banned in other country but adoption is getting higher everytime the price is getting cheaper reason price always surge back and breaking ATH.

So i think we must be thankful that it fails sometimes because that's the way we can make good return as well afterwards.

I strongly believe that Bitcoin is not going to fail. Although I do have a problem with custodial wallets and people that are making use of these regulated platforms, it doesn’t make me happy at all.

Yes, I believe we all have been seeing the news about how the government plans to use the centralized exchanges one day, which is why we have seen people advising us to stop storing our coins on custodial wallet, rather we should have stored on peer-to-peer/decentralized platforms where the government cannot exercise any form of control. Remember that when it’s not your keys, then it is not your money as they say, so we need to secure what we have, our assets and not let anyone control.

At this point, I don't have much reason to see the failure of BTC. We have already seen the good and bad sides of the technology that this field has to offer. So far, the crypto market is growing stronger and the demand for it is growing. Its problems are so far seen as a challenge that only slows down this process, but cannot prevent it.

It depends on what do you mean by saying bitcoin fails because there are many people who say bitcoin fails just because this couldn't pass the 70k price level and there are other people saying bitcoin failed because the governments are able to force people to pass the KYC and this will be against what bitcoin privacy gives us. But if you mean completely failing the whole project I would say the most important thing is failing bitcoin means the central banks won the war between fat and cryptocurrencies and that's what the governments always wanted to see, but with the correct interest by people to care about their privacy I would say that's not really something that will happen anytime soon.

What if it fails? But what if not?
Honestly, most negative people will fail and those who were positive succeed. And to answer what-if Bitcoin fails? I'm still looking forward to seeing it never fails coz as many people will value this thing, that is very unlikely it fail but instead, we gonna see Bitcoin becoming more appreciated than fiat. And even these banks will take chances to be part of this just like what they do with fiat.

The Government, the banks, will either support this in the future.

It's pretty much that. The original post is a little bit too much. It's all about having freedom with your own money and people always have that choice whether they would want that with their money or just choose to be a bank slave. Bitcoin cannot just technically fail in a blink of an eye.

Bitcoin is decentralized plus it's open source anyway.

In the cryptocurrency world, Bitcoin is what people believe in. Bitcoin cannot fail without a major attack (or disaster). Bitcoin stands for freedom.
Blockchain technology is being learned in every country, even countries that ban bitcoin are learning blockchain. But now many countries will launch digital currencies, which is also a test for Bitcoin.

Bitcoin can be censored in some countries, especially authoritarian ones, but I don't think it's something that can happen in democracies. So I think this list is relevant if we imagine countries like China censoring Bitcoin and what happens next, but globally, it's impossible to imagine Bitcoin failing and all those things the op mentions becoming the case. Some points are also far-fetched, such as Bitcoin being the only truly objective thing (this is very far from the truth), and the point about capitalism is pretty controversial (not everyone thinks capitalism is good, and Bitcoin doesn't entail capitalism).

The Internet is said to be a world wide Web and as such, it has been stated to have made the world into a global community. Hence, those far and near is made nucleated.
The forum is an internal platform and have got representatives from all nations right here. All of which are active users of the Internet and are exposed to series of contents as you, on a daily. Especially the trendy once.

This should bring to a plagiarist that, there is every chance for a user to spot plagiarism anywhere the act is perpetuated and there isn't any exemption to the forum. It always saddens me for users to exit the forum on plagiarism counts but again its a proactive measure to tackle what is turning to be an everyday act on the parts of most beginners. Let's do our best to ensure originality of content and be decent enough to make references when we use other people's content alongside our own words.

The solution is to provide a means for people to make their own cryptocurrency and have better/safer yield/growth than they would in a traditional bank...like make it so easy to make your own crypto and so accessible through a service or something like a special debit card that converts whatever cryptocurrency to fiat on swipe even if I made a Jarbltater1 coin that was set to be a USD stable coin, a Jarbltater2 coin that was valuated by market cap for savings, a Jarbltater3 coin for taxes/governence/burn...so pretty much all the normal banking a person would do plus means for the token to be changed by the user of the service all for free...I know this is all probably hard to follow but...if we could get a way for people to use their own crypto for all their normal banking purposes by starting with providing a debit card that converts any crypto to fiat on swipe and providing that through the service which provides the easy & free make your own cryptocurrency app you could get a 2nd crypto revolution that takes away the power of the governments and banks to launch 51% attacks against all the current cryptocurrencies by printing endless supplies of money into their market cap then taking control of the price...conspiracy theory territory, I know...but hear me out. If you had your own cryptocurrency and had $60,000 saved up in your own Jarbltater1 stable coin, with $20,000 in your Jarbltater2 liquid savings coin, and $20,000 in your Jarbltater3 taxes/hard savings coin and you somehow got your Jarbltater 2 coin onto an exchange with all of the fees and burns going into your Jarbltater3 coin then the government tried to 51% attack you they'd just make you rich and so long as you didn't start buying more of it after they did so there would be no potential for loss for you even if they took every penny back out of it. Furthermore, by providing another option among the many options people have for getting into cryptocurrency there will be another appealing option for a different group of people looking for this different type of option. Odds are that by getting more people, more money will flow into all of the other popular cryptos even if not much...it would still be very cool to see and I think it could work to save the intentions of cryptocurrency and free the people from central banking once and for all...even though we'd all end up using some sort of Visa card...

I guess the point I'm trying to make is we need to move on from public chains because those have been taken over by...well, public institutions like banks and governments...we need to move on from public chains and start using our own private chains.

I'm already envisioning the app...it'd be like an Awesome Miner but on your phone and you'd start by whether you want to select an already existing blockchain or use a blockchain of your own making then you literally just make a coin on any of the blockchains the app supports or your own if your smart enough...Somehow make it free even if it's only free for the first like year or two...Get people using it then all the sudden there's like 1,000 coins being mined on SHA 256, 10,000 new SCRYPT coins, and it just never stops on all the algorithms and the governments and other 51% attackers are just like, "welp, f*ck..." Could you imagine the news?

Last thought...it might even be a good option for the app to allow users to select what backs their cryptocurrency; they could use any fiat - most likely the one they get paid in...which leads me into another though, this app and the fiat/crypto conversion should support direct deposit and automatic distribution percentage like normal banking too. Or if they want it to be back by gold they can do that, even if they wanted their crypto to be backed by Bitcoin or Ethereum they could do that too.

Only few countries banned cryptocurrencies totally, countries like China.
true, in many countries including mine, Bitcoin is not banned but bitcoin is not supported as a currency, bitcoin is only supported as an investment asset (in the category of stocks).

Bitcoin can not fail, especially not because of fiat that bitcoin will fail because fiat held today will have less value tomorrow and the more times passes, the more fiat are worthless.
Bitcoin will not fail, Bitcoin has entered the minds of hundreds of millions of people in the world, more and more people are converting their fiat to Bitcoin, especially countries that are in conflict.

If bitcoin fails, then the whole entire crypto economy will collapse. Almost every crypto is the same as bitcoin. If bitcoin prices go down, then maybe all crypto is soon going to follow and it might impact the World economy and also banks around the world.

I never thought bitcoin would fail, if bitcoin fails it's possible that the crypto industry will be gone. Bitcoin is more and more widely accepted and used. The war between Russia and Ukraine is showing the importance of bitcoin in the future, but if bitcoin dies now, I think it will not affect the world economy and especially the banks. we all know banks are barely interested in bitcoin because it hurts their position.

Bitcoin is now most popular and holded cryptocurrency which prices has increased so many times I can't calculate. There is not chances of bitcoin fail but acceptance of bitcoin by country or government is a mystery question for whole world. How can we take bitcoin as payment mode with controling of transactions. if bitcoin fails then people will get losses who buying and holding at high prices. Holders of bitcoins will sold their assets and it will become 0.

If you value oppression, censorship, and corruption, then you should want Bitcoin to fail
Understanding this, do you also know what you need to do with it? Maybe we can't exist between good and bad in this life. The choice is personal, and sometimes they are guided in the right direction by larger forces. But anyway, the market has a completely different face now than before. Many people are starting to really realize its benefits in life, so honestly, I have never thought of BTC as a failure since then. I started in this field because my belief tells me people always know what's good for them.

I do not think Bitcoin would fail. It is already massively popular. Millions of people all over the world are using it every day, to trade and to make purchases. El Salvador made it a legal tender and Panama, I believe, may do so as well sooner or later. With that kind of popularity, how can it fail? Yes, the crypto industry has problems to begin with, but I firmly believe that they will be cleared out as time goes on and popularity grows even further.

Everything fails...  It is a matter of when, not if.  I think Bitcoin has some gas left in the tank before it's demise.  Maybe as much as a couple decades.  It won't last forever though.  Just like the dollar or any other currency that came before it.  There's a chance we'll all be dead before that demise, so it probably doesn't matter much what our opinions are on the subject.  I would hesitate to time lock coins for a hundred years to secure your family a spot amongst the wealthiest.  A lot can change over time.  I'm sure Bitcoin isn't the end all for currency advancement, but for now it's the best looking horse at the show.

Bitcoin has come to solve problems fiat hasn't not to compete with fiat, the rapid adoption of Bitcoin fiat will loss it's value gradually.
"don't permit Bitcoin transaction"? Including the US and European countries? I'm sorry but what are you saying? In certain US states you can even pay taxes using bitcoin, and in Europe there are several crypto-friendly banks and physical places where you can buy and pay directly in cryptos.

It depends on how you understand failure. Has it solved the problems it promised it would? Then, it succeeded. Period. From now on I don't know if it'll continue gaining market appreciation, but as far as I can tell, there are merchants who accept it and people who pay with it and get their paycheck in it.

It can't be stopped. Now, will the people suddenly stop evaluating it that much for X, Y, Z reason? Probably, there will be Bitcoin crisis' in the future, but not "failures". Gold also had such crisis'; did it "fail"?

That is definitely a lie, only few countries is bitcoin banned in Africa, North Africa are most hostile to cryptocurrencies as four countries in north Africa totally banned cryptocurrencies. While the west, east, central and south Africans are not hostile to the use of bitcoin. Some countries only implicitly banned bitcoin in a way the government still allow the citizens to use it just like Nigeria in West Africa, but only in p2p transactions, not direct bank transactions.

I think what he means there, is only bitcoin because obviously when bitcoin are gone we still have other assets or payment methods that can function the same as btc although they may not be as decentralized and anonymous as btc. It will be hard for someone to continue without btc because they rely too much on those features.

What assets do you have anyway? and why can you say that even the government and economic issues won't affect it? I can't believe that there are assets like that. They are are mightier than bitcoins then, because even the bitcoin itself can also get affected whenever there are serious issues happening around.

Once after the pandemic even the people who doesn't have much knowledge to use internet services have begun to make use of internet.

As few users said everything used to fail, but when and why it happens need to be noted. Here if bitcoin wanna fail, then this will happen because of failure of internet. According to the stats internet services were getting updated with advancing technology which means the chance of bitcoin to fail is very narrow.

What makes you think that cryptocurrency will end if USDT should have a problem? If you choose to make use of USDT that is your choice, there are so many other stable coins out there that you can make use of, we have binance USD, and also DAI, and so many others out there, so if you choose to make use of USDT is a choice that you have made for yourself.

And if USDT should have a problem in the future, it is only going to affect those that are making use of it, and wouldn’t affect people who are making use of other stable coins in the market. And by the way what investors would do is just to switch over to making use of another stable coin, the people that will mostly be affected are those investors that do not have much money to spare in the market.

I literally need internet to survive at this rate, because if that was gone I wouldn't be able to live my life the way I know how, and everything would be terrible.

Bitcoin is not there yet, it is nowhere near that level yet, it is getting there, and in a decade I am sure it will be there, this is more like 90's of the internet world where it was great but if it was gone that wouldn't mean the world would stop, right now it would stop and the whole world would go crazy.

What a thought provoking question; What if Bitcoin fails?

Well, in as much as we are enjoying what we are seeing as Bitcoin today, we should also remember that everything that has a beginning will surely have an end. It is possible that bitcoin can fail. But if Bitcoin fails the technology that we enjoy today will not fail, which means something greater than bitcoin we may witness.
Technology evolution is what we experience these days. It is so difficult for a problem solving technology to go into extinction easily, even if it has some defects, it will rather go into refinement than being eliminated totally.

Whether bitcoin fails or not, it is clear that the present bitcoin will know is in no way closer to solving humanity problems. So we should expect to see a refined bitcoin or totally a new cryptocurrency that will replace what we see today as bitcoin. But for the main time, it's bitcoin we know and it will not fail any soon.

I think a lot of blah, blah, excuse me!

I think the reality of everything is in that final sentence, it depends on us. Bitcoin is there working, demonstrating every day in each of its transactions that it is possible, I think I would change the phrase to; "You cannot fail in the opportunity presented to us".

There is a simile with the earth, trite; "let's save the earth, " really!! the earth has survived climatic changes and more than 5 total extinctions, in each of them some species have disappeared , but the earth has always continued its process to harbor life.

Perhaps as a human species we are so stupid that we end up destroying our species as we know it and in that resurgence of magical life on earth 2 beings from the future start the trust again.  8)
So, if bitcoin fails, it's just your fault and no one else's.

I don’t think that there is any possibility of Bitcoin failing. Bitcoin doesn’t have any central control unit. If that it is a kind of centralized platform that is being controlled by a particular organization which we know who they are, then we can fear that the government can one day tamper with the control and put everything to an end.

If there are a particular set of people that are controlling Bitcoin and their identities are known, the government can even decide to arrest them at anytime ,  but luckily the platform is not like that. Rather it is being controlled by the community, there is no authority or whatsoever like that, everyone is equal and we all control it.

One can still expect bitcoin to technically fail in the future if they find a severe vulnerability. That could be possible because I believe bitcoin also still needs improvement, especially regarding its scalability. Bitcoin can be replaced in the future if there is another instrument that is more perfect than that because currency failures have occurred before. Bitcoin is a human creation which allows it to have some drawbacks, so make sure you consider all the consequences if you really like bitcoin.

I honestly never expected bitcoin to fail, but I can't hide the fact that we can never see anything about bitcoin in the future.

What would be if the Universe never existed? Well there would be no such strange discourse as there would be none to lead it. But we know that the Universe do exist (anyhow, anyway).

Why should bitcoin fail? It is decentrlized enough and has big enough support to survive even if the situation will change for the worse. It will not fail and we know that right now. All other concepts are philosophical: what would be if.

BTC already failed this year, as in total failure economically. We had massive inflation and still btc couldnt keep up with a collapsing dollar.

Bitcoin is a failure its a matter of time before the asics are shut down. I think this was the calculations china saw in shutting down btc miners. BTC is a dead end. Some digital currency is awesome but btc failed

If Bitcoin fails, another cryptocurrency will arise and will likely do so within a year. The technology behind Bitcoin will continue developing in that case and other cryptocurrencies will bring some exciting new technology to the table. If that new cryptocurrency fails, then another one will certainly come up. So the point is this: this is not the end for cryptocurrencies. Some cryptocurrency will become the dominant one and it will become the global currency.

Technology is not the only part of success of bitcoin. Trust is much more important: people believe that bitcoin has value and technology just makes that belief working. If bitcoin would ever fail it would cause a problem with trust to entire crypto world, so no, it can't be so that any other cryptocurrency can replace bitcoin if it fails. Cryptocurrencies can grow and become substantive only if bitcoin would be still succeeding, at least for now and for years.

Every cryptocurrency is looking up to bitcoin,  so if bitcoin fails every other cryptocurrency will fail, All cryptocurrency are bitcoin clone , trying to be like bitcoin.  Bitcoin is the most reliable cryptocurrency , so I think if bitcoin fails their wont be any cryptocurrency to believe in and crytocurrency will stop existing. The reason why many still stick to bitcoin is because they believe in bitcoin and bitcoin has come to stay, if it fails no new crytocurrency can take up bitcoin place and their wont be need to believe in a new cryptocurrency.

I disagree with much of the above.  First off bitcoin isn't all that private.  If Monero fails (maybe even Zcash) then okay we can say privacy fails, but bitcoin is viewable on an open ledger so I'm not sure how if it fails privacy fails. Bitcoin failing also doesn't mean any of that other stuff.  Another coin could easily come in and "take over" bitcoin and take it's place with better technology yet achieve all of these things you have listed out, then those things don't "fail".

This will be a big win for the government and privacy will be forever lost. Bitcoin is a big threat to the government and if  this happens it will bring a big relief to their few years of trying to gain back their complete centralization and censorship. But I'm glad it takes a collective effort to make the whole system work or crash so therefore Bitcoin is here to stay

In short, if bitcoin fails, liberty fails because you will have nowhere in the world to protect yourself from the authoritarians who continually want to control everyone and everything around the world.  It has been the same battle for millennia:  some people want to be free, some people want to control.

It still started with the technology because why will people invest on it or why will they trust it if bitcoin is only an ordinary thing with no ground breaking technology behind it? If bitcoin fails then it fails but you might be right that it will cause a doubt at first if the rest of the cryptos left is strong or can be trusted because btc is already known to be the strongest among all but why it still collapse?

But, eventually people will still move and will try to embrace what is left. As of today, we have tons of cryptos on this market and most of them are good cryptos that we can say close to the level of bitcoin. People can still earn a benefit with them.

It took years for Bitcoin to become what it is now. If the technology is magic by itself why wasn't it as valuable from the very beginning? It is only a tool, and Bitcoin is much more than just that tool. There are multiple forks of Bitcoin which have zero value despite made with the same technology and even same code. To trust in that some code in your PC has value is much harder to get then to write some code. If trust is lost it would be really hard to earn it one more time. I hope we'll never see a situation with bitcoin failure.

The ability to earn on any coin does not bring it closer in terms of level to bitcoin. There are many tokens, many of them are absolutely useless, but speculating on them temporarily can swing the price very much. The only difference is that these tokens are forgotten very quickly and have no value. And bitcoin has already been recognized by states and today it simply will not be allowed to collapse.

Bitcoin is big coin of Crypto Currency and If bitcoin falls then whole crypto market will get down and it can end. Because bitcoin is a trusted coin and whole market is running through BTC trust and if BTC fall then people loose there trust they withdraw their funds which make the crypto end.

I agree with most of this list except for this. Capitalism did not immediately invent itself post Bitcoin creation. Capitalistic principles have existed for centuries with the most modern capitalistic societies doing fine without Bitcoin. That's not a slight directed at Bitcoin because crypto can enhance capitalism, but this is a bit of hyperbole.

Now, if you're referring to major central bank collapse which would cause business ownership to plummet, then yes, Bitcoin would save capitalism. We aren't there yet.

Bitcoin is never failed. If bitcoins price will be go down it affects the all coins. So bitcoins is important of all coins. Bitcoin price is any time to up and down. So don't lose the bitcoins and hold it long time. It good opportunity for the future growth. Bitcoins price not easy to juess. It any time to up and down. So time to buy and sell the coins.

I also think that Bitcoin cannot fail that easily. However, one of the strongest vectors of attack would be to globally shutdown the internet, which seems almost impossible to achieve. Many factors would have to come together to make that happen.

Banning PoW and other attempts like that, or banning mining will just move the operations to other locations, making the demand for everything needed to increase and making it feasible and lucrative. Even if all countries try to ban mining and PoW and other things that could be banned, I still think there would always be margin for illegal market, parallel economies (underground, etc) and we, as intelligent forms of life, would always fin ways to circumvent.

Then, if someday Bitcoin gets the grip, I think it will never lose it again. Knowing it's properties as a financial tool for economy, I think there are little things that could make it lose track ever, that I can't even remember!

I don't think bitcoin will fail because there's no way this will happen....
but when that happens...
bitcoin failure means death, how will they kill bitcoin who have few reasons to live.... in the hearts of the world community unless they kill the bitcoiners. maybe what can kill bitcoin is when there is no supply of bitcoin left in this world...
and when that happens...
all blockchain systems and cryptocurrencies adopt the bitcoin system. when bitcoin dies, do others die too.....?? I don't think so.... maybe the blockchain system and other cryptocurrencies will come forward to continue the bitcoin struggle

So what? Everyone here talks about how bitcoin can't fail, or won't fail, and how "fail" could be understood and many other things. But the reality is that, all I care about is blockchain itself, if blockchain doesn't fail, then projects themselves could survive as big as bitcoin itself.

I don't care if we have ALL crypto fail right now, let alone just bitcoin and I would be fine. Why? Because, I know that blockchain itself is a big deal and that is why I have to say it doesn't matter how one might fail, because a thousand will come out, we will have another coin at the top, likely ETH, and then we will move on like nothing happened. Sure it will impact for a short while, but then we will go back to normal for sure.

I think that the only way that BTC will fail is that they remove the electricity supply service worldwide and the internet, because these services are needed to be able to execute transactions. I have seen similar threads when it comes to this topic, but when they say fail it can be interpreted in many ways, and a very common one is that they call failure when it makes a very strong downward movement, which translates into a big drop, something similar to what happened in 2018-2019 when the BTC was about to touch $2k, this can also be called a failure, and I think that if something like this happens, I would be fully willing to go up again and reach new ath.

Blockchain is not the only distributed ledger even amongst existing now. There's DAG at the moment at least. So it is possible that one day there would be invented a much better distributed ledger which would replace blockchain. Bitcoin can migrate to that potential new ledger and survive when blockchain can fail and be replaced by a more prospective ledger, in theory. And as for me I believe that we still live in times of technological revolution and blockchain will be replaced by some more progressive technology in the future, the technology not not invented and probably can not imagined yet.

Bitcoin will not fail anymore, it is successful because of the people, and therefore only people can dictate the future of bitcoin. Also, we are not only talking of bitcoin now, we are not anymore in the early stage, we consider the space a crypto space, hence, it says that we grow bigger already and will continue to grow.

Bitcoin can be regulated but it cannot be stopped, we see some countries that ban bitcoin and yet bitcoin still exist and gaining support from people, even big company are investing into bitcoin.

The fail of all human civilization (otherwise I don't see any option of losing Internet and power supplies in entire world at once) can lead to bitcoin failure of course, but there could be some other options in the distant future:
  • newer technology which can be better than Bitcoin (if Bitcoin was invented than some other technology can be invented as well),
  • money can lose their sense with possible changing of social formations and if that happen bitcoin will lose it's sense as well.
If to think I guess there could be more futuristic ideas about how can it be for bitcoin to fail in some distant future. But if without some planetary disaster I don't think bitcoin will fail in nearest future.

Bitcoin will not fail. It is a very young currency, and many new features are being built into it that makes it better than ever. Just like the internet is the underlying technology that powers the entire internet, the blockchain is the underlying technology that powers bitcoin. Other forms of digital currency are being built on the blockchain. All of these will continue to grow and expand and become more widespread. The blockchain, unrestricted by being tied to any one digital currency, will continue to grow as well.

Yes, it can happen. And I hope and believe that devs of bitcoin code are aware of that possibility and will make a hardfork with computing threat protection long before it will became a real problem. But right you are, we need to keep in mind that new technologies can be hostile to bitcoin and try to provide protection in advance.

For now it is too early to think of bitcoin to fail. Being technology backed any form of changes can be done over the technology. This will keep things updated and doesn't let the network down. As things with bitcoin is done in a well planned manner, so nothing to worry of control from the government, privacy, etc. To the need of people we'll see more changes happening around, maybe in such a way if some other technology overcomes then bitcoin might find difficulty in moving forward.

Bitcoin and blockchain are not the same. Bitcoin is a currency that makes use of blockchain while blockchain is the technology that powers the transaction. Anyways the both of them are new and the world is getting to know about these new technologies and how to make use of them in a way that they would benefit the world.  And of course there is nothing like failure for any of these.

Blockchain on its own is very useful and is believe that it would power a lot of things in the future and not just transactions. Bitcoin too is also useful and so far it has been the truly decentralized cryptocurrency that we know.

Then humanity needs another savior. We are ruled by a bunch of elites at the top calling themselves politicians, and long long time ago people forgot that politicians are people we elect to represent us, and started to imagine they are the betters of us, they somehow turned elections into picking our rulers instead of our voices.

This is why we need bitcoin right now, those politicians will burn a whole nation down if it means it will benefit them, and there is nothing you can do about it because there are people who will vote for them if they burn it into the ground while saying the things they want to hear. Bitcoin is not just economical, it is also political for me.

As long as the inflation thrives the existence of cryptos is ensured.

The only alternative is Gold but Gold with its unfair spreads (10-20%) has no chance. Sure they are alternatives like Aurupay.com without spreads but their Gold is digital. If you want to hold this Gold in your hands you have to initiate a delivery which costs about 25$. So you pay more or less on another way, but for bigger Gold deliveries its a cheap choice.

Bitcoin didn’t exist before and we were able still to do transactions via bank or p2p. If bitcoin fails we will only go back in older method of transactions as well of investing. For some people, they are still nt aware of Bitcoin existence especially those people leave in 3rd world country so it will not bother them , only those who already know crypto will be affected but soon we know that there will be new inventions or method that might be alike in crypto if ever bitcoin fails.

But this is just what if and there's no way a Billion dollar marketcap will gonna fail because its already working and being used by millions. Technically if Bitcoin fails then most of the blockchain project fails because Bitcoin existence is rely only on the blockchain technology. Without blockchain, Bitcoin is just a normal cryptocurrency.
Many people especially in 3rd world countries who do not know about bitcoin is still alive and existing and before bitcoin we were existing. If bitcoin fails it will only affect bitcoiners very well and according to you another technology that will work like bitcoin will emerge, so there is nothing to fear about if bitcoin fails.

Are you saying that if bitcoin fails, blockchain will fail together with bitcoin? I think OP is saying if bitcoin fails and altcoins don't fail. Which I think doesn't really go well. Because bitcoin can only fail if blockchain fails.

For me, crypto market keeps going stronger than it was before and the most amazing thing happen is that there are many people knows about cryptocurrencies and there are already countries which accepts cryptocurrency especially bitcoin and that's already a great indication that bitcoin will not fail.

Bitcoin can’t fail. It has already succeeded. Blockchain technology is out of the bag and people have a new way of fighting financial oppression in the digital age. So even if Bitcoin’s price goes to zero, it will not be a failure.
Is bitcoin identified here with all cryptocurrencies? If not, then we forget that there are many more altcoins, and some of them have pretty good features to become a means of payment. At the same time, bitcoin has not become a common payment method because the vast majority prefer to expect a significant increase in its price. At the same time, this is what increases the demand for bitcoin. There are two main possible scenarios here, and both of them are not in favor of bitcoin. Either the price of bitcoin will continue to grow for a long time (which I doubt) and then bitcoin will never become a common means of payment, or at a certain stage its price growth will stop, after which it will fall sharply in price to the level of the rest of the cryptocurrency.
Whatever happens to bitcoin, the cryptocurrency will continue to evolve.

Many people think that bitcoin technology can be hacked and the fact that until now this has not been proven, but I'm never a fan of saying that bitcoin is the best and can last for a long time, in my opinion if bitcoin still lasts for another 15 years of course it is great achievement of this century, and I believe that one day there will be a technology that can replace bitcoin.
Why should it take another 15 years to determine the reputation of cryptocurrencies, obviously bitcoin can last forever as long as there is demand and supply, don't forget that cryptocurrencies are legal in many countries and even El Salvador has legalized Bitcoin as a legal payment currency.

Some comments above are very dissatisfying with how some members have been here for a long period of time, I mean at this stage of bitcoin, do you need more years to define the success of bitcoin? Common! That's the old fashion statement Thomas was using and they have all become bitcoin maxist.
There is this quote from satoshi that says:

Quote
“If you don't believe it or don't get it, I don't have the time to try to convince you, sorry.”

If by 2022 and anyone still doubts the bitcoin journey, there is nothing we can do for them, believe it or continue to save up your paper money until inflation ruins everything about you.
