Title: Power supply riser
Post by: devil2man on April 01, 2022, 09:40:52 AM
As usual i need help, advice i would like to connect a 1030 to a pcie x1 port via a riser but i am not able to connect the sata / 6 pin power supply is there a cable that goes from 6 pin to usb (as power supply)? how much i would be able to do per day with the 1030 mining aion ?

You looking for a USB cable to deliever up to 75w for a riser? Do you think it is possible? If you have not enough cable to power a riser - buy a bigger PSU, build a new RIG or something like this.

And as said many times - the 1030 can give your rewards like 0,05 cent per day before electricity

devil2man I'm sorry to say that, but mining with a 1030 is not worth it

and you can't provide power to GPU from USB, even this 1030, I think the TDP of a 1030 is 30w, and even if is not recommended you could use a sata cable to run (sata cable can do 54watts)

Unfortunately, to mine you'll need a stronger GPU and more important, a good and reliable PSU, this is important for you safety, if your PSU don't have at least this cable to provide energy for the riser, I suspect it's not a PSU to mine.

It's not possible to connect this 1030 directly to you motherboard?

Mining with 1030 is like one step forward two step back, you are wasting your time doing this, its not even good for new coins that require 3GB or 4GB memory to mine, forget it and go buy a GTX 1660 or a AMD RX6600, these are the minimum GPUs that will do.

Be ready to blow things up  ;D, leave it be if you don't have the right components to set things up, don't go and do something you will regret later, you've been warned.

I have an ASRock X370M-HDV R4.0 motherboard that has only a pcie x16 slot occupied by a 1650 gpu and a pcie x1 slot where i wanted to put the 1030 through a riser, alternatively a decent card that has directly the pcie x1 coupling ?

I see your motherboard have 2 PCIe, if you already have a 1650 attached, you can put another card to mine with a riser, but don't buy a 1030, forget this idea
If the reasons are just to understand mining, you can try with your 1650

If you are thinking about a new GPU, I would say the minimum to worth are GTX 1660, RTX 2060 and RX 6600
Maybe you can find a cheap used RX 580 8Gb, way better than 1030 and at least you can mine ETH and a lot of another algos

Why? You don't have free sata connector? Maybe you have Molex?

I wonder why all responses are mentioning profitability. He did not ask about this. And he did not provide important informations to calculate this so what is source of these informations and did you have right to gather them yourself?

I have a power supply of only 300 watts and no I have no free sata connection cable, so , think it is unthinkable to put gpu cards that require more power for the power supply, so give me a final advice i should invest in a new motherboard or in a more powerful graphics card?

Like I said:

You already have a motherboard with 2 PCI-e, but you need: strong GPU to mine and a PSU to run this new GPU and the other card 1650

You can buy both: GPU + PSU and have 1 card mining
You can buy: 2 GPUs + PSU, you can sell your 1650 and buy 2 cards to mine

Or if you are serious to mine you can build a rig with Motherboard + PSU + GPUs (you can use your CPU + memory to save some money)

The model of PSU will depends on which GPU you'll buy but generally speaking a 650w PSU of Corsair, EVGA etc can run 2 GPUs

Yeah but profit or no profit he should look for a card with 8 gb ram. That way he will be able to keep it mining.
