Title: A true open source and clean firmware for antminer s9 and above. Bitcoin miners
Post by: KitKatZ on May 25, 2022, 04:08:06 PM
Looking for a clean and straight forward firmware for S9 and above bitcoin miners. Simple an efficient. NO extra fees. No hash rate theft. Must be truly open source and will trusted

If it's clean straightforward firmware without extra fees why don't you just use the firmware available from the Bitmain download page?

The only problem is they do not have an open-source but they are trusted because they are the ones who manufacture Antminer. So it should be trusted.

Or do you have other reasons why you are looking for open-source?

The last fully open source firmware for Antminers was done by Kano for their S1-S3 Antminers. AFAIK he has it in his git along with the latest cgminer code he did for the CompacF. After that BM hacked & slashed their version of his code into what is used in all of their miners since.

The source code for a S9 *is* out there but...

First "sub-result" I get on google for
 "git s9 bitmain"

https://github.com/bitmaintech/bmminer-mix

Sure , but not included "AsicBoost"  ::)

If you search on mys post, i give my code for unlock frequency and voltage for S9 series , T9, and T9+  ;D

Check Braiins-OS by Slush, written from scratch and supports Asicboost, not sure what you mean by "straightforward" tho, it's unlikely that you will find a plug-and-play code that's up to date, all the fee-based firmware versions use bitmain's official firmware (originally CGMiner) and modify it to do more stuff like auto tuning.

So?

My current git includes how to do asicboost on an S17 chip and that bm git includes everything else.

I guess if the question is "where do I find code that does everything for me coz I can't program" well then yep that may not be useful.

Or if it's like you: "I violate your cgminer license" then, get lost :)

Kano claims (almost) everyone is infringing his license, so there is only one:

https://braiins.com/os/open-source

No cgminer inside.

Feel free to add x17/x19 support to bosminer, you have the code (https://github.com/braiins/braiins/tree/bos-devel/open).

Um, Kano has many times made a point of saying that your code (and only your code) does not infringe in the slightest and for that reason has allowed it to be used since day-1 of him starting the solo mining site. Once there was finally proof that your code actually correctly finds & reports block finds he also now allows it on the main pool.

Is it correct that the braiins bosminer code is no longer available?

Yes indeed bos+ is a 'You must pay us to use it and we will not give you the code' miner.

It doesn’t seem like the regular braiins (non-plus) bosminer is available anymore either. The code has been removed from the GitHub repo posted above in May.

Well, they still are required to supply the code - that's part of the bos license.
Hopefully they aren't now violating their own license :)

Actually that's not how free and open source licenses work. If you are the sole owner of the code, yes, you can actually change its license or dual license it, but that is not retroactive which is why some people made forks. Feel free to use those...

Required to release source? Sorry Kano that is not how it works. If you touch my code, yes you are, but since its my code, i don't. With cgminer it is not only your code so you can do nothing about it but continue using the same license in perpetuity unless you make your own replacement from scratch or fork the thing making sure no code that is not yours remain.

The bosminer community edition was released with that license, so anyone who forked is in the obligation to release code if, only if, it is redistributed publicly (ie github) or in a product like a miner. This is the GPL style rules, not MIT/BSD where you are not even required to do this.

In the first place, you must always do your own way to verify the authenticity of the firmware if you are planning to use it.  Because there are many firmware options for Antminer S9 claim to be clean and open-source.

Moreover and never forget to take this note that the third-party firmware
can also void the warranty on your miner and it may not be compatible with the hardware anyway.

From what I can tell, only Braiins claims to be open source. And apparently they’re not actually open source any more?

Maybe they are just reorganizing their GitHub repo. The BraiinsOS website still says open source.

What bout the claims of LEDE which is now openwrt which is gpl which bos is based on and included with? I saw someone mention that in telegram but the braiins artmetis guy removed it actually sort of curious as openwrt is a nice os and WM uses it too

That’s a good question! I’m no master of the GPL but, shouldn’t you have to distribute source if you sell a binary (Braiins OS+ firmware) containing GPL’d code??

Here is a fork of Braiinos : https://github.com/xertSuns1/braiins

I didn't test it personaly, I stay with originals FW

That is someone who cloned BraiinsOS before they took it down. The Braiins GitHub and website have been scrubbed of the community edition. BraiinsOS+ was never open source.

Only the "original" Braiins OS was completely OpenSource back in 2017-2018 I think, after that they did what they did with the Braiin OS+.

Braiins listed both options on their website up until very recently. The source code was taken down a couple months ago.

Why use the pork version of Braiins OS than using the original one?
I don't recommend using unknown firmware or modded firmware by someone because there is a big possibility there is a hidden and high developers fee.
You can just use the Braiins OS without plus I think it does't have developers fee than using OS+.

Does anyone know which Xilinix (bought by AMD it looks like) we need to have in order to build this?
The readme references gcc-linaro-arm-linux-gnueabihf-4.7-2012.11-20121123_linux which you can find via search, but also
XILINX_OTHER_LIB_BASE_PATH, which would indicate some other Xilinx developer tools. But no reference as to what they are.

A pointer would be appreciated.
