Title: Bitcoin and Ethereum Dominance
Post by: Gayong88 on June 21, 2022, 04:51:28 AM
The fight between Bitcoin and Ethereum dominance is very interesting to follow and we all know Bitcoin has always dominated the cryptocurrency market and for now it looks like Ethereum is getting closer to Bitcoin and Ethereum Supply will deflation decrease -2% a year after The Merge proof of stake later. Will a new king of the cryptocurrency market willcome?

Is there even a fight? There's no fight between the dominance of these two. Bitcoin will always have the highest dominance then next is Ethereum.

Will a new king of the cryptocurrency market willcome?
No.
It has been asked for so many times for the past years and there will be no new king in the market. But bitcoin will remain as the king of the crypto market.

There was no fight and it's only your personal opinion. There will be no new king of cryptocurrency. The competition in the market dominance was just a common thing and you shall not over reacted this thing. Bitcoin is bitcoin and ethereum was also remain ethereum.
Both are different thing and just because the market dominance from both were going up and down and then you were taking a conclusion if there would be a fight between both.
Moving to the POS didn't mean ethereum will be more successful than the current condition.

There was a time in which the dominance of ethereum came awfully close to the one of bitcoin and some people even predicted that bitcoin and ethereum will flip positions and ethereum will become the top coin in the market, and as you can see that never happen, and when we take into account ETH will eventually become a POS coin then the chances of that ever happening are as close to zero as they can be, so I am not optimistic about ethereum becoming the new king of this market.

Dominances of Bitcoin and Ethereum nowadays are not correctly reflect the market like they were in the past.

Do you know why? Each year more altcoin projects created. Each bull market, we have hundreds or thousands of new altcoin projects. They can have no real value but at some times, they contribute to total market cap of the crypto market. The dominances of Bitcoin and Ethereum will be more accurate in bottom of bear market when most of no-value altcoin projects down and their caps fall to very low figures or even to zero.

Bitcoin as the first cryptocurrency has advantages over other cryptocurrency technologies. Since then many cryptocurrencies have come and some even specialize in several sectors.
it is difficult to compare which is better Bitcoin or Ethereum because they have never been in the ranking of direct competitors, bitcoin is understood as a payment system, whereas using tokens to implement smart contracts.
Based on their market cap, I don't think it makes any sense, but who knows in the future even though it's just a slim possibility.

I don't think that BTC and ETH will stay in the top 10 in 2023. There are so many better projects that have been released since Bitcoin was founded and the tech just hasn't been able to keep up with things like Hedera and Candle Chain. Newer chains remedy all of the problems older chains had, like slow transactions and high gas fees and they add more utility, like enterprise usecases.

Well, it is very hard to call it a struggle, because the difference between the capitalization of Bitcoin and Ethereum is 3 times. I don't think there will be a shift of the cryptocurrency leader, bitcoin is the #1 cryptocurrency for everyone and it is much more popular in terms of investing and cooperating with businesses from the world of traditional finance, such as funds, banking institutions and so on. Ethereum will still be the leader of its segment, in the field of smart contracts, but it is not enough to displace bitcoin from its position. In addition, the move to PoS will make it a less trusted asset because PoS is more centralized than PoW.

for me, there's no reason to compare these top 2 crypto projects. they have their own significance in the crypto market. there are features like smart contracts that btc can't offer. but we can't deny the fact that the scope of btc is larger than eth. why not just be grateful that we are enjoying both worlds of btc and eth? let us be thankful that in this generation, we are lucky that we have experienced this kind of technological advancement. there may be more innovative platforms in the future. but for now, we are lucky to have these in our generation. it is giving more opportunities for people to enhance their portfolio, if they know how to get involve with crypto projects.

I'm guessing bitcoin gonna still dominate, it's just matter of the trend honestly, currently it's bearish and the ones that influence the most is btc, but once the trend changes, I could guess the dominance of bitcoin gonna increases.
However it can't be denied that eth dominance is also increasing these recent years. From the data it seems ETH valuation is already 1/4 of that BTC. Maybe someday ETH could overtake BTC thrones but then again the dominance of BTC could always increase so fast.

There are always arguments between these two cryptocurrencies and who's the best among them but I think there's no fight between the two of them.

Based on this article (https://www.simplilearn.com/tutorials/blockchain-tutorial/ethereum-vs-bitcoin) the image is shown below compares their data and decides which will still be dominated in the future.

IMO, they have different functions the peer-to-peer transaction system for Bitcoin while Ethereum has a smart contract.

How can you call this a fight?  I mean Bitcoin and Ethereum are two Blockchains with different ways of working.  We know Bitcoin as a coin, and we also know Ethereum as a token.  I don't see which of them will be king.  I see them as 2 different Blockchain systems that are helping the development of cryptocurrencies going forward.

I really don't see any struggle between ethereum and Bitcoin as it relates to dominance. Bitcoin has always had a higher margin as compared ethereum and the margin has always been substantial. I personally don't see any possibility of ethereum being the dominant player in the cryptocurrency market. Bitcoin is the father and would always be the leading cryptocurrency in the coin market.

Thats unlikely to happened. Eth is good but bitcoin is the most decentralized among the cryptocurrency. Also it will take a lot of funds to surpass the btc marketcap. There are lots of speculation about the eth merge wouldnt damn solve a lot of issues. So I guess its likely impossible to replace btc on the throne. There are lots of L1 who have a lot of potential than eth so there ar eother choices by the community to use.

Bitcoin's price has been increasing recently, but still not enough to cover the cost of mining a single coin. In fact, it has been reported that some miners have been losing money. If Ethereum continues to rise in price, large mining pools will switch back to mining Ether over Bitcoin. BTC prices could stagnate as more miners turn back to ETH. If this occurs, ETH might overtake BTC in market cap and become king. I also thought, maybe it's just a matter of time.

The last time I checked, ethereum was moving to POS, that's prove of stake. This means that miners won't be needed for ethereum but investors who are willing to stake their ethereum a minimum of 32 ethereum. This has been fulfilled in the ethereum 2.0, though it's yet to be completed.

How will Bitcoin MC be defeated by Ethereum MC? LOL. Bitcoin will never be replaced by the owner of the largest MC, even if you say that in Ethereum there will be a deflation of around 2% per year, will the amount of deflation be greater than the inflation?

It will be difficult for all projects to pass Bitcoin MC, because the belief in decentralization will center on Bitcoin itself as the early pioneer of the crypto.

Bitcoin will always be leading the cryptocurrency market. There's no doubt about this. I think that you are missing the main point here if the dominance was not everything and did you know that ever when ethereum has taken bitcoin's place but bitcoin was coming back again to grope it. This problem already repeated so many times and dominance is still nothing. Both were still owning majority of domination in the cryto. If both can co exist and why do you need to talk about this?

Bitcoin will always dominate. No doubt about it. Ethereum will always be the second and will never be the first in Coinmarketcap. But since both of them are great long term assets for us to buy and hold, it’s better to do DCA with them rather than the other altcoins in the market due to their superb trading volume, market capitalization, several use cases and widely adopted worldwide.

For most people that are not really interested into crypto currencies or that are just following all the events of the crypto space from the outside Bitcoin still means crypto for them and Bitcoin is basically the only crypto currency that they know of. Bitcoin just has the huge advantage that it is the project that basically invented cryptocurrency and therefore it is dominating the whole market so far.
That being said it think projects like Ethereum are way more important for the whole crypto market nowadays than Bitcoin. Without Ethereum and the introduction of the smart contract functionality all of the stuff that crypto is about nowadays like Defi and NFT's would not be possible. Maybe ETH will BTC in terms of marketcap in the future.. we will see.

Bitcoin will always dominate every single cryptocurrency that wants to take over in the market and no one will become successful for sure.  and  what you said above OP, well IMO obviously ethereum is nothing if we will gonna make a comparison again.. because indeed ever since before while the market cap of ethereum is constantly increasing it still didn't succeed afterwards.lol so how much more on this current situation that clearly bitcoin is the one that controling the whole market.?  i don't think it's possible to happen tbh..  :D

I dont see any king or queen or minister here, just different coins showing a difference in ideology between their creators - a good example of democracy in the crypto ecosystem while people are free to choose between which one to use.

What might happen after Ethereum POS will be seen only after it happens. We cannot predict for sure and neither should that be an indicator for future investments.

And BTC dominance has been a term created by market analysts without giving any pointers to its physical significance but numbers only. Dont use that term to get an idea for investment, it is not supposed to be like that.

You have made a good point, I congratulate you, I will follow the different answers to the topic with interest, thank you.

I think local exchanges don't have enough fiat currency pairs for altcoins. Some people have to buy Bitcoin from local exchanges to buy altcoins from exchanges like Binance. This creates demand for Bitcoin directly. This is one of the reasons Bitcoin is king; and there are many other reasons like this...

The dominance of Bitcoin in the cryptocurrency space is not contestable as we've had bitcoin as the first and father of all cryptos. From my perspective, it would take a long while for an altcoin to take this position and gain the trust of the cryptocurrency users and miner and I really don't see that happening any sooner.

Seriously?  ;D
Bitcoin and Ethereum have their own sides that can make the investors put their big money into them. Additionally, Bitcoin is the father of cryptocurrency, the first one, has a high market cap, and of course, has high trust. E5hereum also become the most valuable and trusted altcoin so far. But, I don't think that they compete or fight each other.
Both are worthy investments. Their dominance is true, but Bitcoin is still the highest one

I don't think there's need to compare the two, bitcoin will continue it's dominance in the market no matter what. And even if you see the Ethereum is getting closer? nah there will be no flippening that is going to happen.

There has been attempts in the past, Ethereum and Ripple, but they all failed. So just because of the merge of proof of stake that Ethereum will be the new king?

What fight are you talking about, OP? Bitcoin and Ethereum are different to each other.
Yes, there could be some rankings in CMC or in CoinGecko but that does not refer as competitive rank. Can't compare BTC with Ethereum like orange and apples.
Would you ask the same thing for USDT and USDC?

It's all about real-world implementation. True, the strength of bitcoin lies in its popularity primarily as a currency. but the future may be different and a challenge for Ethereum itself because it is still young. Thank you for all the suggestions and input so thatmy insight into crypto will increase.

I think altcoins will never be able to replace bitcoin, bitcoin will still be the king of all cryptocurrency-based digital currencies, from trading volume and bitcoin price nothing can beat, the increasingly limited circulation of bitcoin will increasingly make the price expensive and unbeatable.

If you're speculating on the price being at the $10k level, there's a chance ETH could hit that price but it will take longer for ethereuem to reach that level and require higher adopters so that should help make the price higher in the future, so far I'm personally do not see ethereuem as a challenger to bitcoin because BTC is the king of cryptocurrency which until now still stands at number one in the market and its demand is also increasing year by year.

You should honestly judges dominance at the time bearish has finally subsided, since it's all dynamically changing overtime considering that the current trend of the major altcoins and btc are fluctuating a lot.
Therefore the current statistics of dominance has become rather irrelevant. Instead once the bullish has finally comes the dominance gonna be changing vastly around all these major altcoins and btc. Then you could judge the dominance of cryptocurrencies in general quite fairly.

it cannot be denied that bitcoin and ethereum are more dominant and play a role in the crypto market, this is because these two coins have strong fundamentals and have a very wide community and network in the crypto world, so that until now there has not been a single coin that can match its popularity bitcoin and ethereum, I personally really favor these two coins and make them the priority investment of all time.

Bitcoin and Ethereum will always be on top and will dominate the market. They have the strongest foundation and resistance towards all the market situations. Bitcoin is the top coin will always be the highest simply because it's the most popular and trusted cryptocurrency of all time. It has the biggest number of investors and that isn't questionable because it's the father of all cryptocurrencies.

I think it will take some time.  Ethereum is still lagging in many aspects.  One of which is the government acceptance.  Bitcoin had established its acceptance in several countries already, while ETH hasn't shown us that side yet.  Bitcoin had been the main talk of the different countries whether to accept it or not, ETH. I don't read any (please send a link if you have read one).  It is always been Bitcoin that lead the cryptocurrency on its way to global adoption.  So I think, that even if ETH surpasses BTC in terms of CMC, Bitcoin will always have dominance.

Indeed, there is no point in comparing these assets because they each fulfill their own role in the crypto industry. I can't say for sure if bitcoin has more uses than ETH in all sectors. Bitcoin's use in various investment sectors as well as in payments is definitely much higher than ETH, but what is bitcoin's use in the crypto industry itself? Exchanges, institutional purchases and that's it, basically. Because more than 60% of bitcoins don't participate anywhere, they are locked in cold wallets for storage, but eth does a lot for the crypto industry, many projects are built on it, many different types of tokens use ETH, that is more bitcoin for cryptocurrency storage and more ETH for utility.

Bitcoin and ethereum have always its close competition in the market but there's no way that bitcoin will be replaced from its position since its always bitcoin that dominated the market ever since. And its utility cases are different, so people would always prefer bitcoin as the top rated investment while ethereum will always be the most usable smart platform in most of the old and new existing projects.

As if they are fighting as they can be even perfect match for wise crypto investments. Bitcoin will always take the lead and influence the price of ethereum, and the rest of the altcoins. If you have seen their big difference and appreciate those things, you can never say that these two well-known coins are in the fight to which who would take the #1 spot or dominate the entire market. I'd come to see that they have different purposes and we don't use Supply and market capitalization as our basis, as even if it happens that ETH will surpass BTC (which is impossible), ETH is still an altcoin.

We don't think it hard, nothing will replace Bitcoin - that was the truth.

We can't say yet that ethereum will soon be able to dominate bitcoin, and I think it will still take a long time for ethereum to catch up with bitcoin, since the first existence of the crypto world and until now bitcoin is still the king of all coins, and its value is already very high when compared to other coins including ethereum, so until now there is no fight that has occurred between the two coins, and all are still followers of bitcoin.

For a long time ethereum supporters have claimed that ethereum is going to replace bitcoin at the very top of the market and become its new leader, but I think there is not chance of this happening at all, and this is because even if there is a great deal of people that trust ethereum, at the same time it does not compare at all to the number of people which support bitcoin and that are not interested in holding any coin other than bitcoin.

In utility Ethereum has outperformed bitcoin. It's just that bitcoin is always considered no. 1 because of people's belief that cryptocurrency was created by bitcoin. If it is said to be king, I believe bitcoin will remain strong in the first position even though it has lost utility or even has less dominance than ethereum. We need great trust from society for etehreum in order to compete with bitcoin and replace it as the new king.

It is not a belief that the market of cryptocurrencies was created by Satoshi and his bitcoin invention, that is a fact, also ethereum supporters claim that ethereum has surpassed bitcoin in its utility but why is that the case? Just because hundreds of useless coins are running above ethereum? We do not really need those coins as the majority of them could disappear and the only ones that will care are the ones that invested in them, bitcoin still offers superior utility because it is actually used to buy stuff that we need, something in which ethereum is far behind bitcoin.

Bitcoin still remain the king among the cryptocurrencies because the price is still more stable in the market compare to Ethereum which the price is still struggle to increase for their customers to make a good profits. Many people still prefer Bitcoin investment than Ethereum investment because Bitcoin can dump today and within a minutes it will increase higher in a way were people will start making a profits from their daily investment. Ethereum is not demonstrating any green light yet which their customers are very worry about the current price in the market.

I don't see an ongoing fight between these two as you have mentioned. Both have different utilities. BTC is the Pathfinder and obviously the biggest cryptocurrency. ETH on the other hand is the biggest layer one protocol.
So, I don't see how ETH is coming closer to BTC. Is it in dominance or in utilities?

I think its never possible for now because bitcoin still shows its dominance despite of the big crash in the market. And besides, bitcoin and ethereum are not in a competition, they can be even great partners in an investment with bitcoin and the most potential altcoin in the crypto market. And the fact that bitcoin serves as a currency while ethereum serves as a smart platform, then these two are not meant to compete with each other.

I don't think Bitcoin and Ethereum are competing, but they are complementary. Therefore both Bitcoin and Ethereum are the safest
for long-term investments, because Bitcoin and Ethereum are the most trusted crypto by many investors. After all Bitcoin was the first
crypto created, and Ethereum always follows the movement of Bitcoin, meaning that Bitcoin will always dominate the market and it is
impossible for Ethereum to beat Bitcoin's dominance. So Bitcoin is indeed the king of crypto and is almost impossible to beat by any coin.
Therefore, since Bitcoin first appeared on the market until now, Bitcoin is always at the top of the rankings and is always the best choice
for investment. In fact, many projects have been created to beat Bitcoin, but all have ended in failure. This means that Bitcoin is too strong
to beat, therefore Ethereum will always be second in the crypto world.

Long time ago, bitcoin and ethereum were seen as rivals by their different communities and there was a time in which ethereum got really close to surpassing bitcoin in terms of its market cap and dominance, but since then the distance that separates the two has enlarged to the point that it is a mistake to think of both of them as competitors, each coin is designed to do something different and they are pretty good at what they do, so I think the same as you do and I do not see any kind of battle for the dominance of this market at all.

True and I understand but Looks like The Merge will bring big changes for Ethereum, its fundamentals are getting stronger and if I'm not mistaken Microsoft is one of the Ethereum investors https://t.co/9YElQU0N3t

For me the domain will always have BTC, no matter how much ETH is weighing, ETH as well as any other altcoin will always be or will be at the mercy of what BTC does, for my BTC when it recovers the one that mostly follows it in growing is ETH, and sometimes ETH grows in such an impressive way that it produces a large percentage of profit, for those who like ETH, I would say that it is a good time to buy, but with moderation because it is very likely that BTC could fall a little more, it is not known, but we have to think even in the worst case scenario. So since BTC is the king, it is the one that dominates and the ETH is the one that follows.

Even though the domination of Ethereum over Bitcoin in crypto market is possible, I don't think it will likely happen in near future. Bitcoin has already the leader in adoption all over the world, while Ethereum still has huge main issue with their gas fee, not to mention other platform similar to Ethereum that also has grown so much.

If BTC and ETH are no longer in the top 10 on CMC by 2023, which coin do you think will replace them?. Are you dreaming?. Yes, there are a lot of new projects coming out and they have faster speed, cheaper gas fees but since 2013 till now you have seen which coins are still alive till now like bitcoin and etherum, or they are very good but then they die or are replaced by a new altcoin after each bear cycle.

I'm a fan of both Bitcoin and Ethereum. I cannot see any competition between the two in terms of dominance. Bitcoin will forever remain to be the most dominating cryptocurrency. Ethereum will also remain the second most dominant, but it's level is not at all threatening to Bitcoin's dominance. Ethereum remains at less than 20%. It will probably remain like that even with all the upgrades of the Ethereum network. Or even if it rises it cannot overtake Bitcoin's.

Bitcoin and ETH are the 2 most influential coins, if they are both red then we can be sure the other coins will be red or vice versa, this is natural because investors always see and make these 2 coins for short-term or long-term investments, and I also don't hesitate to hold the 2 coins.

Both have never been suitable for short-term strategy, bitcoin and ethereum are two coins with long-term growth vision. How will you profit from holding them in the short term, which is impossible.
If you want to find short-term profit, you should invest in shitcoin, meme projects. there will always be hype and rapid disappearance.

I still believe bitcoin's dominance will still outperform other coins. Although ethereum has the potential to rise, it still cannot replace bitcoin. Perhaps ethereum will remain king in altcoins while bitcoin will remain king in cryptocurrencies.

With the supply of bitcoin decreasing yearly, it will make bitcoins even more scarce. While many people put their hopes in bitcoin, this is probably what has made its price soar in the years to come.

The new king of the crypto market is not coming. Bitcoin is often compared to Ethereum and various predictions are made about the future of these assets. But these coins were initially positioned as completely different projects from each other and there is no point in considering them as competing products. Ethereum has already confidently taken its second place in the market and will remain so. Ethereum is the basis of blockchain products and the main foundation of the modern blockchain industry, while Bitcoin is an exchange investment asset.

Bitcoin is the most superior king among other coins, there will be no other king coming to take his place, Bitcoin and Ethereum are indeed the two coins that are always talked about and between them are often compared, although now Bitcoin is declining and the movement of ethereum is slightly up and for sure Ethereum will not be able to replace Bitcoin.

Bitcoin and ethereum have dominated the market since 2016, ethereum's main strength is being the parent coin of thousands of defi, nft and DEX projects thus creating a heavy dependence on ETH, when transaction fees increase but do not make users run away from ETH.

For me the king of cryptocurrency is Bitcoin. This statement is heard every year since Ethereum was discovered. It is just a fact that Ethereum is the new king of the crypto market No Never. Bitcoin is the King of cryptocurrency as well as the founder of cryptocurrency and still remains a king.
Bitcoin was the most popular and first cryptocurrency to discover which worked as peer to peer transaction system while Ethereum was used to create applications and smart contracts platform. These two coins are similar to each other In the choice between Bitcoin vs Ethereum, depends on the person how they used and which one they need Bitcoin or Ethereum.

Now Altcoin price depends on bitcoin price. So ETH price depends on bitcoin. Cz Bitcoin and Ethereum have between good relationship each other.ETH gas fee very high now but it was to low like BSC transaction. People usually using BNB transaction right now.I hope bitcoin and Ethereum will be more development in future.

No, just Bitcoin has dominated the market since 2016, ETH just follows the Bitcoin signal. Back then, there was BCH, Litecoin as well to reduce the amount of Bitcoin dominance so the market back then split more than today.

True, ethereum is a popular coin and we can all see its significance as there are a lot of coins which depend on it, however bitcoin dominates this market alone and does not need another coin to be able to do so, ethereum just like any other coin has a very strong correlation to the movements of bitcoin and if such a coin actually dominated the market together with bitcoin then we should expect it to not have any correlation at all with bitcoin, so the evidence shows that even if ethereum is incredibly popular it does not dominate this market at all.

Yeah but the topic was not even talking about utility of ethereum but the chance for the new coin to be a new king to replace bitcoin. In my opinion if bitcoin domination will be absolute and this will not able to be replaced by something new from the crypto developers. The history told us bitcoin already replaced a few times but it was taking its spot again after a few months. Ethereum and ripple have ever become the number 1 currency in crypto but it's not happening again.

We can always say what was, because it is known, but it is absolutely impossible to say what will be, because it is not known. Whether bitcoin will always take the lead is unknown. This may change in the future, although I doubt it is likely. Still, bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency and the only decentralized one, which makes it special to this day. The point here is not the potential that eth has, although this coin has also taken its niche and a firm position #2. It is possible that eth will take more and more market share from btc over time, but I believe the day when it even equals bitcoin is still very far away.

If you go across the true utility of majority of the cryptocurrencies, even those on the top order you'll find them much into trading and nothing beyond that. Bitcoin, ethereum, xrp, and few others have got its acceptance on stores. Apart some platforms are helpful in financial services and for fast transaction support. There were good usages, but are very limited in usage. For this reason bitcoin dominance 43.32% and ethereum is at 15.60% according to today's market.

Most altcoins may even have some better technology than bitcoin, but because they are not decentralized, because they have a greedy owner who is a pump and dump promoter to get rich and leave the project with a slow development, it makes people feel more secure. in buying and holding bitcoin as a priority. Look at Luna, it was a project that looked good, but look how it turned out. altcoins are not to be trusted. If someone day trades with an altcoin, that person will regret it and go back to day trading with bitcoin.
