Title: #Bitcoin as a promoted trend on Twitter Post by: Harvey on December 11, 2011, 06:08:42 AM I have sent an email to Twitter proposing #Bitcoin as a promoted trend. What this means is #Bitcoin could be displayed on top the sidebar to all Twitter users at select time periods. If they click the trend, they will see all the news and tweets regarding Bitcoin. During this time, the Bitcoin community could shout their voice the loudest using the #Bitcoin tag and we could get a lot of new people informed on Bitcoin.
What are the obstacles that are preventing this from happening? One, we need Twitter to actually consider the request. Two, we need a minimum of $5,000 to fund the campaign. Who would be interested in helping fund this? Is this a equitable cause? In fact, we could have the Bitcoin Twitter hour where we all just pause for a moment and flood our timelines with stuff :) I believe the most effective way to market Bitcoin via Twitter is for Bitcoiners to up their tweet count and include #Bitcoin to all those additional Bitcoin related tweets. In the past, I've been involved with trending campaigns--started by other tweeps--that all failed to get a bleep on the TT radar. We would have had better luck if we used #whymybitchisahoandyourdogaint directed towards a certain demographics--at two in the morning. Twitter is a powerful tool when used correctly. If not, it's a major waste of time or, worse yet, a campaign may backfire. Tread lightly!
