Title: [Tutorial] BlueWallet - Bitcoin Wallet Discussion
Post by: aylabadia05 on December 06, 2022, 11:32:47 AM
BlueWallet is an open source Bitcoin wallet with the original aim of using a Bitcoin wallet on Segwit-enabled iOS. Apart from being open source, it is also decentralized and currently supports several other features such as Multisig Vault, Multiple Wallets, Coin Control, Payjoin, Plug-in your Bitcoin node, Coldcard support, Full encryption, HD wallets , and others.[1]

BlueWallet which is a desktop wallet (https://bluewallet.io/desktop-bitcoin-wallet/), available for MacOS and can also be used on mobile (Android and iOS)

Many good mobile versions of Bitcoin wallets have been recommended by friends on this bitcointalk forum such as Unstoppable, Bitcoin Wallet, Mycelium Wallet, Samourai Wallet, Hedge Wallet and others .

Regarding the news made by theymos Reminder: do not keep your money in online accounts (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5421039.0) as an important announcement, then I took the initiative to share how to create or get a BlueWallet wallet on Android.

I've tried to search on several boards about tutorials on how to make a BlueWallet wallet, but I couldn't find it. There may be something wrong in the search. So, on this occasion I tried to do it in the hope that it will be useful.

The process for creating a BlueWallet wallet is very easy. We only need to run according to the following command;

1. Search Blue Wallet on android Google play store and install it.
Installation links: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.bluewallet.bluewallet

Edit:
It's even better if you download it directly from BlueWallet's official website (https://bluewallet.io/), either the  App Store (https://apps.apple.com/app/bluewallet-bitcoin-wallet/id1376878040) or Play Store.

2. After installing, click open, it will immediately be directed to the application.

3. If we are already in the Blue Wallet application, then the next step is to press the "add now" button, it will appear as shown in image 4.

4. In the column that says "my first wallet", you may choose a name as you wish.
BlueWallet provides 3 types of wallets, but for this tutorial, just choose the type "Bitcoin" then click "create".

It is important for me to say that after you press the "create" button, 12 phrases will appear for you to save properly by noting them in a paper book or other supporting tool to remember them because the application does not allow schrenshooting, if on your android it supports schrenshooting then no anything.

5. To get the address, click on the wallet column that says "0 BTC".

6. Then click the "Receive" button below.

When it has reached stage 6, the application will display a reminder information display on our Android screen regarding the 12 word phrases that we have saved.

7. If we have saved the 12 word phrase, click "YES I HAVE".

8. We managed to get a Bitcoin address.

Blue Wallet can also be installed on the iOS version and the process is not much different from the Android version.
Apart from that, Blue Wallet can also allow us to Sign/Verify Messages.

Trustwallet is close source.

1. Search Blue Wallet on android Google play store and install it.
Installation links: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.bluewallet.bluewallet
Best to still download it directly from Bluewallet official site: https://bluewallet.io/. It will still direct you to app store, but better than to search directly on app and see a fake one, which is possible on app stores, especially google playstore.

You can also use coin control on Bluewallet.
You can also import Electrum seed phrase on Bluewallet, this makes it differ from most BIP39 wallets that support only importing seed phrase generated on BIP39 wallets.

I loved one feature of this mobile wallet that it supports batch transactions (pay to many). You won't be able to find much android wallets having this feature. Blockchain.com used to have it in their old web-wallet but dont know why they removed this important function.

Btw, Non-segwit (P2PKH) address type not supported for receiving ?

Even if your phone allow you to take screenshot from the the seed phrase, you shouldn't do that.
You should keep your seed phrase in a secure place. If your seed phrase is on your phone and you lose the phone for any reason, your fund is lost. With keeping the seed phrase on your mobile, you also increase the probability of your fund being stolen by hackers.

You can not generate legacy address by default, but you can import seed phrase that you used for your legacy address generation, but if the legacy address is not funded or not used for transaction in the past, it will recover the native segwit type.

In addition, there are many advantages in Blue Wallet as presented by @Charles-Tim, including support for Lightning.

Right. It is very important to take care even though android allows to take screenshots. We need to store the phrase in another place that is much safer in anticipation of not losing it for one reason or another. But what I'm getting at is a step in getting the address for android users who can't take screen responses while working on it like it happened to me.

I am glad that somebody has started a BlueWallet tutorial here. And I'm also glad that it's started as an open discussion, since (as Charles-Tim has pointed out very fast) some things are missing, incorrect or simply can be done better. I also recommend starting from the official website than the link for app (because one will be tempted to find the app on Play Store and end up with a clone sooner or later).

Some additions/missing points:
* if only the Android BlueWallet is discussed, it should be mentioned from start, in topic's title; BlueWallet exists also for desktop and iPhone. I would not be surprised there may be differences/missing features here and there.
* BlueWallet supports hardware wallets and I think that this could need a special "chapter", especially as Electrum (which OP failed to mention!!!) on Android doesn't support HW
* BlueWallet supports Lightning network (via a custodial wallet, however it's more than nothing) and that could use also a special chapter and workflow/tutorial

Of course, all these can be added in time to OP (and I hope they will), although aylabadia05 should have been reserving 1-2 more post spaces for that.

Edit: I've made a mistake/confusion, as Charles-Tim mentioned, BlueWallet also doesn't support well the hardware wallets, please read below.

Bitcoin Wallet is the best for ISO but not for android.

We cannot compare it with Trust Wallet because it is not multi-currency.

advantages:
  • They have a bad definition of "Vault," it is a multi-signature address and therefore there is no additional security feature, but rather increased risks, especially for beginners.
  • The wallet does not focus on privacy, and there are better privacy wallets such as Samourai Wallet.
  • I didn't like the user interface.
  • The wallet crashes in Huawei devices and this issue has not been resolved.

Disadvantages:
  • Good lightning support.
  • Simple for anyone who wants to use bitcoin rarely.

* BlueWallet supports hardware wallets and I think that this could need a special "chapter", especially as Electrum (which OP failed to mention!!!) on Android doesn't support HW
It supports hardware wallet like Coldcard, the Bluewallet make a PSBT and signed on the Coldcard with the use of memory card. Also support cold storage wallet as it can be used as a watch-only wallet to make PSBT which would be signed on the cold storage and transferred back to the Bluewallet to broadcast the transaction. I do not think it support using it with wallet like Trezor, Ledger Nano and some others.

We cannot compare it with Trust Wallet because it is not multi-currency.
It can be compared because this thread is entirely about a bitcoin wallet called Bluewallet, Trustwallet also support bitcoin, but just the bitcoin aspect of Trustwallet is what the comparing is worth discussing about on a bitcoin board. Both wallets have many differences that makes Bluewallet the better wallet to go for (better is even an understatement) when comparing both wallets.

The wallet does not focus on privacy, and there are better privacy wallets such as Samourai Wallet.
To know more about Bluewallet, you can click on this link: https://bluewallet.io/features/

Quote
Coin Control
Allows you to see, label, freeze or select coins (UTXO) to build transactions, for an improved wallet management.

Quote
Payjoin
Payjoin or Pay-to-endpoint, it's a feature that allows to break common chain analysis heuristics, where two participants build a transaction together.

Quote
Plug-in your Bitcoin node
Ability to plug-in your own Bitcoin Full node through Electrum Personal Server (EPS), ElectrumX or Electrs. Don't trust, verify for a maximum sovereignty.

You can even still use wallet like Electrum to have some privacy, but you have to works towards that which will require many wallets used with different addresses using Tor. But if you really want privacy, you need to run your own node.

I didn't like the user interface
This can be related to preference, because I like the UI very well. It is not even UI we need, but the functional aspect of the wallet and how safe the wallet is to use.

The wallet crashes in Huawei devices and this issue has not been resolved.
It works well on my phone with Helio G96 processor, that is still by far a small phone of compared to iPhones and those expensive phones.

Woah, you're right, I've made a confusion.
I wanted to test out my hardware wallet on Android "newer" bitcoin wallets and I thought that BlueWallet was the one this worked with, but no, it was Green Wallet (%!@$ color-names ;D)

I've also corrected the other post too. Thanks.

Good advice.
I thought that could be part of this discussion. Regarding Blue Wallet also on the desktop, I think it could be subtitles.

We cannot compare it with Trust Wallet because it is not multi-currency.
-snip-
If I'm not mistaken, Trust Wallet is no longer as open source as we know it. When compared with the features possessed by Blue Wallet as explained by Charles-Tim, there is a very big difference or Blue Wallet is better than Trust Wallet.

I immediately tried to learn this app when theymos mentioned the name Blue Wallet in an important message to all of us after FTX went bankrupt. After I saw this app myself, I spontaneously said that theymos are never wrong in reminding every member.

It's better if you try it because I don't really understand in explaining in detail.

Can anyone provide a solution behind the problems received by one of the users of the Android version of BlueWallet.

When he installed the BlueWallet application there were no stuck or error problems during the download process on Google Playstore. But when he opened the BlueWallet application, it could be said that he could not open it because the application suddenly closed by itself.

There are some people trying to provide advice related to the obstacles experienced by him, such as suggesting to clean the cache, who knows the smartphone used is full of caches. The user has done some suggestions but still when tried to open the BlueWallet application it cannot.

Who knows, I can forward suggestions from friends here to him in the thread Local Bahasa indonesia (Indonesian).

Thank you.

I just made a search and found the following thread on reddit. It may be the same issue.
v6.1.0 crash on launch, Android 8.0.0 (https://www.reddit.com/r/bluewallet/comments/n3xjjn/v610_crash_on_launch_android_800/)

Isn't he/she using an outdated version of Android?

Isn't that a high version of Android?

He said that the Android version used should not have experienced such problems. There is even an assumption that because the network used is slow or one of the influences cannot be accessed, but without the network the BlueWallet application can be opened.

Probably that would be what that happened. If I remember correctly, I used Bluewallet on Android 9 phone and it worked, but I could not remember if it was actually Android 9 or 10 that I used it with because I upgraded the phone to Android 10 at the time. The new phone that I am using now is Android 11, I upgraded it to Android 12. I had Bluewallet on it when it was Android 11 and also now when it is running Android 12, no issue, maybe because it is mid-range phone. I noticed that Bluewallet is not light to load and it can crash anytime when I used it with Android 9/10, but my phone at the time was using 2 gigabyte ram and very lesser processor at the time. I guess Bluewallet may not load easily on low spec phones too and it may crash at times, but not all the time. Using Bluewallet on low budget phone is frustrating but outdated OS might have been the reason for it not working at all.

Edit:
He mentioned that the Android version used is ColorOS V12.1 with the Helio G35 Octa Core Processor specification.
Isn't that a high version of Android?
He can use Electrum (https://electrum.org/#home) instead if the crash continues. Signature verification (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5240594.0). I use Bluewallet with Helio G96 phone and it works perfectly, but it is better than Helio G35.

I think mediatek processors are not as good/optimized as snapdragon hence the issues sometimes??.
Btw, me using bluewallet on a SD 865 and never got an issue as well. As smooth as butter always.

I've tried to search on several boards about tutorials on how to make a BlueWallet wallet, but I couldn't find it.
The only topic I know is from 2019: A great lesser known wallet! [BlueWallet] (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5168527.0).

I like BlueWallet for small (because it's custodial) LN payments, but there's a but: a while ago, they changed the backup format for LN wallets, and after that change, it didn't recognize the old format anymore without editing it. I talked to them on Telegram, but they didn't seem to care.

As others have pointed out, I think you should edit and correct Step #1 that talks about searching and finding the wallet on the Play Store. Say that the wallet should only be downloaded from links posted on the official website instead.

You can also import Electrum seed phrase on Bluewallet, this makes it differ from most BIP39 wallets that support only importing seed phrase generated on BIP39 wallets.
You can, but unless Blue Wallet changed something in its system, the Electrum seed you import must be for a wallet that has been funded and is not empty. I don't know if it still needs to have a positive balance at the time of import or if it's enough that it had some coins at one point in the past. An empty Electrum wallet can't be recovered in Blue Wallet.

Disadvantages:
  • Good lightning support.
  • Simple for anyone who wants to use bitcoin rarely.
Why do you consider good Lightning support and simplicity of use to be disadvantages?

I like BlueWallet for small (because it's custodial) LN payments
Just so we don't confuse potential users. Blue Wallet's Lightning wallet is custodial. The standard Bitcoin wallet is non-custodial.

It's no longer like that.
As you see in the following image, I just imported a wallet that has been generated by electrum and has never received any fund into bluewallet successfully.

Correct. I specifically mentioned LN because I use another wallet for on-chain Bitcoin.
I'd like to see a desktop version of BlueWallet for custodial LN. Amazingly (https://lightningnetworkstores.com/wallets), I don't think any desktop wallet offers custodial LN!

Hmm, good to know. Did you ever try it before and what would happen? Did Blue Wallet provide an error mentioning that the seed import didn't work or that it was a wrong seed format...?
Additionally, have you checked if both wallets generate the same addresses? I really hope it works and Blue Wallet doesn't produce errors if you went ahead and used that imported (unfunded) Electrum wallet.

I don't remember exactly. If I am not wrong, there was a message saying "no wallet found" or something like that.

Additionally, have you checked if both wallets generate the same addresses?
Yes. I checked the addresses. Bluewallet generates the same addresses as electrum.

This means that the problem experienced by one of our friends lies in the Android version used by him. I also think that if his android is snapdragon, it might not be a problem bouncing out when trying to open the BlueWallet app.

I will try to get back to him in the near future with a recommendation for an Electrum Wallet.

Blue Wallet is better than Trust Wallet.
I agree, and one of the main features for which I use bluewallet is its "pay-to-many" feature. I guess there is no other mobile wallet currently which supports this feature.
For now I am more comfortable using BlueWallet on Android with its convenience. However, I have not tried using other android wallets other than Trust Wallet before switching to BlueWallet. Who knows there are more conveniences from BlueWallet.

I've tried to search on several boards about tutorials on how to make a BlueWallet wallet, but I couldn't find it.
The only topic I know is from 2019: A great lesser known wallet! [BlueWallet] (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5168527.0).
That's right. When I did a search before creating this topic, I also saw that topic, but it wasn't about tutorials as I originally intended. However, due to some suggestions from some people that I thought made sense, I was happy to comply to make this topic broader in discussion not only limited to tutorials.

I talked to them on Telegram, but they didn't seem to care.
Maybe they are busy.
Can we hear what they have to say about your question after they answer the one you asked via Telegram?
At least I can personally discover something new.

It's better now. However, it's not a song.
It's better if you download the song directly from BlueWallet's official website (https://bluewallet.io/), either the App Store (https://apps.apple.com/app/bluewallet-bitcoin-wallet/id1376878040) or Play Store.
I guess you had something else on your mind when you made that correction. And since you made a hyperlink to the App Store, it looks better if a similar hyperlink also exists for the Android version on Play Store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.bluewallet.bluewallet).

I've been just researching these days on it and I've seen today a pretty ugly post about it on Reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/bluewallet/comments/10ntwoe/what_is_a_good_alternative_to_bluewallet_for_a/) (claiming that very often he cannot send out transactions).
So, is anybody around here using BlueWallet for LN often enough to say a few words on it?

I noticed you only mentioned about 12 seed phrases in the opening post, but it's worth noting that you can also import and generate 24 seed phrases...

Steps:
  • Click the three dots in the upper right corner
  • Go to General
  • Enable "Advanced Mode"
  • Go back to the main page and click the "+ button" to add a wallet
  • Choose "Bitcoin", then click "Provide entropy via dice rolls"
  • When you reach 256 bits, click "Save" and then "Create".

Yes, that's right. I didn't mention as you did in your opening post that Blue Wallet users can also take this step. This is the real intention so that the discussion about Bule Wallet can be more broadly discussed so that those of us who are still in the learning stage about bitcoin wallet techniques, especially Blue Wallet, can listen to any valuable input.

Thank you very much @SFR10 for your additional input with very easy to understand steps for those who want to apply this method in the app.
Can I add a picture to those steps?
If you can, maybe tomorrow I will add it.

This means that the problem experienced by one of our friends lies in the Android version used by him
but it must not show up in google play there then. anyway it's their bug. So i think it's not about android
I've messaged one of their contacts via Telegram and politely enquired about the issues that one of the Blue Wallet users is experiencing as I've asked here. I even mentioned the Android version used by the user who was having trouble using the Blue Wallet app, but to date they have not replied.
So, I don't dare to respond to what you said.

Thank you very much @SFR10 for your additional input with very easy to understand steps for those who want to apply this method in the app.
Can I add a picture to those steps?
If you can, maybe tomorrow I will add it.
You're very welcome... Sure, but I forgot to mention something so please insert a sub-bullet for #5: There are three ways to get the 256 bits [coin flip, dice and icosahedron] and if you don't provide enough entropy, it'd use its RNG to get the remaining bytes for you.

Thank you.

That seems strange, the download is fine and then it can't be opened in the blue wallet. I suddenly became curious about this bluewallet.

And according to what I discovered, the bluewallet is not the best option to use to hide our assets that are bitcoin or other cryptocurrency. Because this is what I saw on reddit,

Bluewallet is surely a good option. It's open-source and non-custodial. So, it gives you full control over your fund and there is nothing hidden from the users. It also allow you to make offline transactions.
Note that bluewallet only supports bitcoin and can't be used for altcoins.

That's not what the Reddit post is talking about. If you want to hide your assets, use Bitcoin Core on Tor with manual coin control. Bitcoin Core does meet all requirements the Reddit guy is looking for.

Different wallets have different purposes. If there would be "a best wallet" for every use, everyone would use it. That would lead to terrible centralization, so I'm glad I still get to choose.

Every work made by humans must have a weak point. Perhaps the problem experienced is not in the application but in the android version as explained by several people who have good knowledge in technical matters.

Blue Wallet is one of the good Bitcoin wallets for users who want to store assets because it is Open-Source and Non-Custodial. If I'm not mistaken, an administrator even suggested Blue Wallet of the many best Bitcoin wallets to use after the FTX incident with good intentions and goals for all of us in safeguarding assets.
Reminder: do not keep your money in online accounts (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5421039.0)

If you think Blue Wallet is not the best choice, there are still many other good wallets that you can use to safeguard your valuable assets.

If you mean for cold storage, definitely not. You should use very well tested software like Bitcoin Core or Electrum, and use your own node to load up the wallet from non-airgapped device as watch-only.

BlueWallet is best if you want to use lightning, don't want to run a node, and don't care about self-custody nor about the comparably high routing fee. It's also a good on-chain wallet, because as said is open-source and perhaps the most reviewed across all Android Bitcoin wallet software.

Another convenience found in Blue Wallet is being able to import from wallets that are currently used, such as Trust Wallet, by entering 12 phrases.

Blue wallet supports only bitcoin so if you import the trust wallet by entering the phrases, how will it import the altcoins stored in the trust wallet ?  Or it will only show your bitcoin present in trust wallet?

My second question, Electurm or Blue Wallet, which one you think is better?

It won't show the altcoins. Both wallets generate BIP39-compatible seeds, but only one is a multicurrency wallet while the other isn't.

Or it will only show your bitcoin present in trust wallet?
Assuming both wallets use the same derivation paths, and I think they do, only your bitcoin will be recovered.

My second question, Electurm or Blue Wallet, which one you think is better?
I agree with LoyceV on this one. I use Electrum myself, but only the desktop version. I don't like the mobile version as it lacks important features compared to the desktop one. Blue Wallet on mobile has more advanced options than its Electrum counterpart. It also looks and feels better.

Good question.
When I import Trust Wallet phrases into Blue Wallet, it is only Bitcoin and Altcoins are not shown in Blue Wallet.
This is as far as I am concerned while using the mobile version of Blue Wallet.

Actually, both questions have been answered. Your first question has been answered by Pmalek and your second question has been answered by LovceV. Both answers given by them both in my opinion are quite appropriate so I think the answer has represented what you want to get.

For me personally electrum never really worked as expected on android - it was constantly crashing at the most inconvenient places. That said, even if it worked great I think bluewallet is much, much more polished and a better user experience - and it's available on ios as well, which electrum is not.

Try using the desktop version of Electrum. You'll be saying the exact opposite once you understand how to use the desktop version of Electrum. Electrum and Blue Wallet are both good Bitcoin wallets, but Blue Wallet is better suited to the mobile version for small transactions as Blue Wallet's features on Android and iOS are superior.

Please try Electrum on desktop first, then come back here and tell us what you've experienced.
It's even better if you visit the Electrum (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=98.0) child board and follow the discussions there.
In the meantime, try to interpret what LoyceV is saying about which is better between Electrum and Blue Wallet.

Electrum often crashes for me too, on my desktop. It happens right after broadcasting a transaction from a hardware wallet, and I've reproduced it with different versions on different (Linux) systems.
When it crashes, the transaction may or may not have been sent right before it crashed.

I've never had it crash on desktop, personally, but the mobile app was a complete disaster for me. The desktop electrum app does have some quirks with multisig that blue wallet does not, but I ended up moving to sparrow.

I have never seen that on my end, but I use Windows, so it might be a compatibility issue between Electrum and your Linux distros. To make things worse, maybe it also involves some hardware you are using. Have you ever used Electrum on Windows PC and how did that go?

The mobile version of Electrum gets on my nerves because there is often no back button. Not in the app and it doesn't accept the back button on my phone. Trying to go back to the previous screen results in a crash or my phone closing and minimizing the app. The PC variant is an excellent piece of software. The mobile version unfortunately looks and feels like a weekend project by a group of University students.

I've tried different versions of Electrum on different computers with different Linux distributions. One of them was an Electrum Fork wallet (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2836875.msg60084872#msg60084872) that had the same problem. I'm now just used to it: once in about 3 transactions, Electrum crashes and I restart it. Sometimes I have to send my transaction again.

It's really strange that electrum wallet isn't available on iOS though it is available for MAC OS. Also, they haven't released a better version for Android, don't know the reason for this ?
The popularity they have gained over the time they should have come up with best apps for both Android and iOS, but they lack in this.

Maybe because they don't have enough to pay to Android and ios developers? There is no incentive for the devs to develop it in these OS since they don't earn or get anything being a non-profitable wallet. You can ask the same for mycelium or bluewallet, why haven't they released a better app for desktop? Why are they just better in mobile mode despite being so popular?

I was happy to note that Blue Wallet supports Payjoin.

-- Has anyone tried this feature out?

-- What other wallets have this feature?  In casual searching, I have not found any easy-to-use wallets that do have Payjoin.

-- How about merchants (or other recipients) who use this feature?

-- Is Payjoin finally getting popular?

Any insights greatly appreciated.

Although there are not many available wallets who support payjoin feature, upon searching I found a few along with bluewallet like wasabi wallet, BTCPay server, and Joinmarket. I haven't tried this feature myself yet but I know it is used for increased privacy.
More about payjoin and supporting/non-supporting wallets list : https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/PayJoin_adoption

I see here that even bitcoin core doesn't have payjoin? Can someone confirm this?

I tried Payjoin in different wallets and I think it's cool to have, but none of my regular contacts was using it so it never became my standard bitcoin privacy tool.

What other wallets have this feature?  In casual searching, I have not found any easy-to-use wallets that do have Payjoin.
I think I tested it in Samourai mobile wallet, but I saw it was available in very good Sparrow desktop wallet.
However, I am not sure if all Payjoins are equal and compatible between wallets.

How about merchants (or other recipients) who use this feature?
BTCPay Server is using them, but other than that I didn't saw them in any merchants that accept Bitcoin.

Is Payjoin finally getting popular?
I don't think so, but Ordinals are ''popular'' now  :D

Blue Wallet actually has a desktop app, but they don't highlight it enough on their website. They have big download buttons for their iOS and Android versions and a bit of text mentioning their desktop wallet. There is also a link to the desktop version (https://bluewallet.io/desktop-bitcoin-wallet/) at the bottom of the site. Their OS choice is also peculiar. No Linux, no Windows, and only macOS.

Yeah, that's what a watch-only wallet is for. Your wallet doesn't have private keys or a seed imported into the software. Therefore, it can't sign and send transactions. But you can import specific addresses or the master public key (xpub) to monitor the balances of all the addresses in your wallet. And yeah, if someone steals your phone, they don't get the signing keys to your coins. However, you lose your privacy because they can see everything you have in that wallet and in which addresses.

Being able to see the assets stored in the wallet easily with just a hand is a joy in itself.

Because you may have enabled Encrypted and Password Protected in the security section of the mobile version of the BlueWallet App, thus making the security level stronger if one day the Android or Iphone is lost, although we still keep the phrase in the safest place to be truly protected.

I think enabling Encrypted and Password Protected in Blue Wallet is very necessary to do, including in other wallets.

    Anyway, here's how to enable Encrypted and Password Protected on Android;
    1. Open the Blue Wallet App and Click the three dots button on the top right corner to enter the settings menu,
    2. Select Security,
    3. Scroll the Encrypted and Password Protected button,
    4. Enter the desired password.

You should always password-protect and encrypt your wallets if given the choice or abandon clients that don't offer such services. But it isn't that important in this case because no coins can be stolen, with or without passwords and encryptions.

Too bad. This was a decent custodial service for the Lightning Network although I read that people weren't really pleased with the fees and that the routing didn't always work. Today, we are announcing that the Lightning node, Lndhub.io, where BlueWallet provides Lightning wallets to its users, is sunsetting. While you can still withdraw your sats, creating new or refilling existing Lightning wallets on LndHub node will no longer be possible.

TL;DR: If you have sats on BlueWallet’s lightning node, please move them as soon as possible.

Lndhub started as a weekend experiment on a new fringe technology barely used at the time called the Lightning Network. Today, with the availability of more mainstream services offering scalable solutions, Lndhub has fulfilled its purpose in its current form.

Lndhub as a software and FOSS self hosted solution will keep existing and being supported for anyone interested in running it. You will always be able to connect to your own LndHub from BlueWallet or other software that supports LndHub API specification.

What you need to do and know:

The service will be shutdown on the 30th of April.
If you have sats there, please move them to another service/wallet of your choice.
If you are running your own Lndhub you are not affected.
Regular bitcoin wallets are not affected.

This may sound like bad news, but this essentially means BlueWallet going forward will only support self-custody solutions. This is good for bitcoin and BlueWallet users.

    List of alternatives

Self-hosted LndHub (go implementation, nodejs implementation) on Umbrel and others, on hardware you own.
        Self-hosted LNbits
        Phoenix Wallet (iOS, Android)
        Breez Wallet (iOS, Android)

    Keep building. Thanks!
That's too bad. The custodial LN part was what I used most in BlueWallet. I still have 10k sats left in it, but don't have the device anymore and couldn't find the backup so they can keep it.
Now I'm down to only using Phoenix Wallet for LN transactions.

the custodial service will shut down, but users can still host their own nodes and continue using the Blue Wallet with the LN.
Does that mean someone else could setup a custodial wallet that works on BlueWallet again?

It's not that bad because Lightning in Blue Wallet was custodial with LndHub, and they are working on non-custodial lightning use, that will come back in future.
Electrum desktop wallet can also be used for LN, but I don't think they have that option in mobile Electrum wallet.
There is one interesting chart from BitPay showing what are the most used LN wallets, Wallet of Satoshi, Muun and CashApp have much bigger share than Blue Wallet.

Now I'm down to only using Phoenix Wallet for LN transactions.
Have you tried any other wallets (except Blue Wallet)?
I tried many (but not recently). I started with Eclair, and I've also used Tippin.me and Wallet of Satoshi. I realized I don't like the uncertainty of opening channels, in Eclair for instance I didn't like how the reserved amount changed all the time (I think depending on on-chain fees, with some delay), and I didn't like when it did CPFP at a high fee closing my channel because my opening transaction took too long to confirm.

Lightning Network Stores.com (https://lightningnetworkstores.com/wallets) shows more options for custodial wallets:
    Wallet of Satoshi
    Lastbit
    Buda.com
Bitpie (I've used this one in the past for Forkcoins, but didn't like it)
    Tippin.me
    Bottle Pay
    Strike.me

Switching wallets doesn't go well with my level of distrust for new software. I try to install as little unknown software as possible, so I'll need to do it on my kid's tablet again :P

Does that mean someone else could setup a custodial wallet that works on BlueWallet again?
Blue Wallet doesn't seem interested to do it anymore. I am not sure anyone else will take their place, especially since you can host your own nodes using the same service. If I needed a simple way to send small amounts of LN coins on a regular basis, I wouldn't mind using a custodial service for that. Worst case scenario, I lose my $1.70 in BTC. Congratulations you criminal mastermind. You really messed me up by robbing me of my wealth.

That's why Phoenix Wallet is my favourite alternative: it's custodial while opening the channel, but after that it's all yours. They charge a 1% fee though while opening, with a 3000 sat minimum.

I don't mind this either. People are often in favour of self custody, but we're talking about crummies here. Meanwhile, milllions of people keep their Bitcoin on exchanges, trust them for years, and once in a while they lose everything.

Blue Wallet doesn't seem interested to do it anymore.
My only guess is it wasn't profitable.

Well "not profitable" in a strict sense might be part of the considerations, yet then think about the various bullshit angles in which there could be liability including overreaching governments fucking around with you because you are actually touching the funds of someone else.. even if you might be the most responsible in the world. .but they aren't the governments going to want to require you to jump through hoops.. starting with KYC/AML.. and maybe even other reporting hoops?  sure, that's a cost that goes beyond finances, I would think.. there comes uncertainties.... and yeah it's a similar concept to profitability but potentially getting screwed with because you are holding funds (even if such holding might be structured in a way that it is temporary) seems problematic beyond the more strict conceptual category of "profitability."

I am not sure anyone else will take their place, especially since you can host your own nodes using the same service.
I never tried, I always thought it's a lot of work. But it would for sure require opening my own channels, which is what I try to avoid (for small amounts).

Personally, I am not even running a bitcoin node.. so I would think that personally, I would have to run a bitcoin node before getting into the category of a lightning network node.... Maybe there are people who skip running a bitcoin node or they learn both at once?  I don't even know enough to speculate whether you have to run a bitcoin node in order to run a lightning node.. but anyhow, in my own head, I think that running a bitcoin node comes prior to running (or attempting to run) a lightning node, even though there may be some folks who add both to their bitcoin interaction practices at the same time..

If I needed a simple way to send small amounts of LN coins on a regular basis, I wouldn't mind using a custodial service for that.
That's why Phoenix Wallet is my favourite alternative: it's custodial while opening the channel, but after that it's all yours. They charge a 1% fee though while opening, with a 3000 sat minimum.

I am glad to know that.. and I am currently weighing LN wallets that work on IOS mobile... so it seems that I am comparing Muun, Breez and Phoenix.. as the main potential competitors in that category of LN wallet.. .. and thanks to Cygan for providing the additional chart to describe some of differences... even though I likely need to consider the matter more. and maybe this could be an opportunity for me to try all three of them.. but I feel that I usually don't have that much time that I can (or want to) spend on studying wallet comparisons... or those similar topics of setting up and then making sure that I sufficiently understand the differences, including making sure that I am not doing too many "unknown things" at once.

Worst case scenario, I lose my $1.70 in BTC. Congratulations you criminal mastermind. You really messed me up by robbing me of my wealth.
I don't mind this either. People are often in favour of self custody, but we're talking about crummies here. Meanwhile, milllions of people keep their Bitcoin on exchanges, trust them for years, and once in a while they lose everything.

I've come around to this view too.. in terms of considering Lightning network to be in a different category from how I consider mainchain funds.. in terms of how much might be held there at any one time (and maybe comparable to some funds that I might hold on some other "custodial" wallet.. even though yeah, LN wallet seems to be better than some other kinds of custodial funds (like some of the exchanges that might have quasi-hotwallets).. and then maybe questions about the convenience of something like cashapp.. but then the realization that there's KYC there.. or otherways that funds could end up getting frozen... Currently, I am holding too much on BlueWallet's lightning wallet (more than $1.70.. and even more than I would generally carry around with me in my physical wallet.. absent some urgent time-based transactional matter).. and so I am likely going to ween the amount that I have in the LN wallet down (Blue wallet might have forced this weening down due to their cutting of that service).. and I realize I am holding too much there for a few months now.. .

Good point. So ideally, an anonymous (but well-trusted) entity should take over and provide custodial LN-payments on BlueWallet.

One of the easiest to use mobile Bitcoin wallets is probably Blue Wallet. For most users, it was because of one of the LN features that attracted them to download the Blue Wallet app. If the Lightning node, Lndhub.io has been terminated, there is an impression that the Blue Wallet app is the same as other wallets and the Blue Wallet itself does not think if users who have been using Blue Wallet will switch to other wallets?

This question is if indeed the reason behind the termination of Lightning node, Lndhub.io is because it is not profitable.

Can you go into some more details about that? How does it change from being custodial to non-custodial? Do you mean that when the LN coins have been routed, Phoenix no longer has custody of them?

It's not yet terminated. Existing users still have time until the end of April to use it. Blue Wallet doesn't accept new users though. People might still migrate to other custodial LN services simply because they are easier to use, and if you aren't dealing with a lot of coins, the risks are minimal.

Bluewallet is not only for lightning network alone, it is also an onchain bitcoin wallet. Bluewallet developers will know that some people may be using the wallet for lightning network payment and if only using it for that purpose (but which I do not think it is possible because it is an onchain wallet too), such people may not use Bluewallet again. But Bluewallet is still one of the best bitcoin mobile wallet, that makes lightning network not necessary because people will continue to use the wallet as it is already a known wallet already.

People that run a lightning node may not see it profitable or can be of little and no significant profit. I see no reason why Bluewallet no longer want to support it than being of no or little profit.

I'm not sure how it works on a technical level. From what I've seen, they open a channel for you (this part is custodial), and that channel is larger than the amount you send, so it instantly has receiving capacity too. The channel is with their own node, so they can open the channel even before their funding transaction gets confirmed. That's very convenient as a user.

As far as I know: yes. But I've never tried if I can force-close a channel without them.

But to be safe, I moved Bitcoin Lightning assets from Blue Wallet to the Wallet of Satoshi a few months ago after reading the information here: https://bluewallet.io/sunsetting-lndhub/ (https://bluewallet.io/sunsetting-lndhub/).

I have been using a hardware wallet for several years to store Bitcoin assets. Meanwhile, Blue Wallet is only used to store Bitcoin Lightning.

I have been using a hardware wallet for several years to store Bitcoin assets. Meanwhile, Blue Wallet is only used to store Bitcoin Lightning.

I am pretty sure that BlueWallet is ONLY discontinuing that they hold custody of lightning network coins, so they are ONLY getting out of the "custodial" business, and they are likely going to be continuing to allow for various ways that people are going to be able to connect BlueWallet's lightning wallet portion to the nodes of other people (just not going to be able to connect to their nodes after April 30).. so surely time is running out to move those lightning network coins off of the BlueWallet node into some other wallet - whether a temporary solution or if you might find some wallet that is more of a longer term solution that is comfortable for you.. Sure in the end, in the coming years, many of us are probably going to end up learning about various kinds of lightning network wallets and even to experiment with various kinds of lightning network wallets.. Some aspects of the lightning network wallets and even aspects of the lightning network transactions do seem to be getting easier.. or at least more popular.. and in more recent times, people don't seem to be losing their BTC as frequently through the lightning network...not that it was ever really a BIG issue, but probably no one likes to lose too many sats, even if there might be some expectation of greater risk for the sake of experimentation.

Maybe I should give an update too (at least in regards to my having had figured out where I was going to move my BlueWallet lightning network coins, and surely I did not want to use my emergency back up of either moving them to CashApp or maybe moving them back to on chain wallets, so surely my goal was to attempt to keep them in some kind of a lightning network wallet, and surely I do not claim to be any kind of technological expert, and plus I have some other things going on too, so I cannot spend a lot of time to figure out how to run a lightning network node..

But I still was trying to mostly aspire to as much self-custody as I could, and from my understanding, Wallet of Satoshi does not meet the self-custody standard.  It is almost like having a cash app wallet as your lightning wallet.. an easy peasy route but surely not in the self-custody direction.

So yeah, I had posted in the lightning network observer thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5348270.msg61895245#msg61895245) in which I was trying to compare various options and surely having some of my own limitations because I am using IOS, and so mostly considering between Breez, Phoeniz and Blixt..and so I have already downloaded and transferred some value onto Breez and Phoenix, and looking further and even downloading Blixt will likely have to come at a future date since the main developer has not actually gotten it out of Apple's Test Flight system, but he still seemed to have had been recommending that the IOS users could still feel comfortable to try it out in the Test Flight system.. so I was considering doing that at some point later down the road.  The Blixt developer (Hampua Sjöberg)  talked about various aspects of the Blixt wallet on the Bitcoin Takeover Podcast a little over a week ago (https://overcast.fm/+QnxxrhX-s).

As I wrote in my mid-March post in the lightning network observer thread (http://my mid-March post in the lightning network observer thread), I did appreciate Anita Posch's review of the various lightning network wallets from her article that I listed in that post, and also her emphasis on the importance of getting used to self-custodial wallets rather than the easier kinds of wallets that might not be sufficiently self-custodial, from her point of view (and my agreement with that).

Besides going to the various websites of Breez, Phoenix and Blixt (and not even claiming that I understood everything, I did also rely a bit on the comparative lighting wallets chart that was presented in DarthCoin's bitcoin Guides. (https://darthcoin.substack.com/p/lightning-wallets-comparison)

There may be some point that I am going to be able to figure out how to run some kind of a lightning node or at least something that might allow for more flexibility and control, and I did just download Bitcoin Core version v24.01 - and also Specter Desktop Version 2.0.1.. so those still seem a bit confusing for me .. but likely steps in the right direction to run regular bitcoin nodes (probably going to run it on at least two computers) seems to be stepping stones to running lightning nodes, even though I understand and appreciate that there are some lightning nodes that can come in a package and already be set up, but I think that I want to go to a computer version first. ..and work from that direction. .. even though sure, I might change my mind down the road..

Yes.. I am using IOS too.. so that is the reason that I was considering Breez, Phoenix and Blixt as the three lightning network wallets that were the closest to being self-custody.. and for sure, none of them are exactly perfect, but I still want to at least attempt to support the systems that are aspiring towards self-custody rather than having another system that is completely wall-gardened..

It seems that in Bitcoin, we need to be more conscientious regarding what we are doing as compared with other kinds of programs that we may have run in the past.. and sure of course, Apple products are already pretty damned walled gardened, so we cannot completely cover all of our tracks in terms of having potential vulnerabilities... especially those of us who cannot read or write software code or even to attempt to customize our experience through running our own lightning node.

As far as I understand, even if Wallet of Satoshi is easy to use and has a lot of good interfaces, it seems to not even be trying to have various self-custody features.. and Anita Posch talked about those same kinds of ideas.. and I agree with her.. and the same is true with the interview with the Blixt developer that I had included earlier.. Guys like that seem to be really working on ways to make systems that try to empower bitcoin/lightning users.. even though surely there are complications, too.. in terms of how much we might need to learn in order to safeguard our transactions.

In the end, you need to do what is comfortable for you, including figuring out how much time that you want to spend learning about these kinds of matters.. and surely, I am not claiming to really know a lot - yet I am also thinking that if some of the transactions and the wallets go bad, at least I am not planning on keeping very large amounts in those various lightning network wallets.. but at the same time, I can also have some on-chain wallets that I can use to refill the lightning network wallets from time to time, if I need to... so it remains an ongoing learning process from my point-of-view.

That's exactly right. After April, they are not going to host a node for their users anymore. But you can still use the lightning hub Lndhub in a self-custodial capacity and use Blue Wallet to connect to your own node. The change doesn't affect that.

    Quote
Lndhub as a software and FOSS self hosted solution will keep existing and being supported for anyone interested in running it. You will always be able to connect to your own LndHub from BlueWallet or other software that supports LndHub API specification.
    ...
This may sound like bad news, but this essentially means BlueWallet going forward will only support self-custody solutions. This is good for bitcoin and BlueWallet users.

There are many conveniences that we can get from Blue Wallet, but what you need to know is that Blue Wallet will immediately close its LN node service until the end of this month.
If their LN node service shuts down, Blue Wallet will look like any other open source Bitcoin wallet. Despite that, I personally am very comfortable with Blue Wallet on android.
Oh yeah. Don't forget to replace a newer laptop when you have enough money to buy it so it's easier to work :)

I am also using bluewallet on android. I use it to "monitor" my wallets and to send transactions using my airgapped signing device.

Perhaps I can buy a webcam. For the time being, as long as I can do all my transactions using BlueWallet, I am ok!

I really liked Blue wallet and its interface on Android, when different types of account cards have different colors.  For example, my Legacy account is red, Segwit is blue, and so on.  I don't really need LN, so I don't have any questions about it.  In general, the wallet is comfortable and I am satisfied.

But I have a question for the wallet developers.
I want to ask when will the new generation of Taproot (P2TR) accounts be supported?  If any of the devs of this wallet read our forum and this thread, please reply.  I will be very grateful to you.
And I need such an option as Taproot, like many other users, as I think.

Implementing taproot requires complex coding hence you won't find many wallets (and even exchanges) supporting this upgrade. Instead, ppl went for native segwit (bech32) which is easier and offers more better scalibility and cheaper fee.

And I need such an option as Taproot, like many other users, as I think.
May I ask for which type of payment you need taproot support ? Btw, bluewallet supports send to taproot address feature already, but we just can't receive from yet. I do believe that taproot will soon become obsolete anyways since there's not much demand and need for it.

For me, using Taproot is just an experiment.  I want to find out myself by making simultaneous parallel transactions segwit-->segvit and taproot-->Taproot, and their combinations in order to find out if the network commission is really reduced or is it just assurances, a promise of the Taproot developers.  Devs Taproot claims that the commissions will be "a little less".

This is the first time I'm hearing from you that Taproot... will soon be "obsolete" because no one needs it.  I am a little surprised by your forecast, but I don’t know if this new protocol is so unnecessary for anyone?  After all, 90% and even more miners voted for him.  And it also has advantages for users, as I understand it.  By the way, Segwit was also introduced for quite a long time, but now almost everyone has it.
Maybe time will tell if Taproot was needed in mass use.

Despite the complexity of the coding, I can't give a definitive answer. However, as a user of the Android version of BlueWallet, I cannot answer when BlueWallet will support Taproot like several other software wallets that already support Taproot.

BlueWallet has just released version 6.4.1 (v6.4.1 - Payment codes) as posted by cygan below and it won't be long before BlueWallet will also be deprecating their Lightning node on April 30th.

This is a wallet that supports Taproot,

    Multisig Vault is one of the features contained in Blue Wallet apart from several other additions such as;

    Coin Control
    Payjoin
    Plug-in your Bitcoin node
Allows you to see, label, freeze or select coins (UTXO) to build transactions, for an improved wallet management.
Payjoin or Pay-to-endpoint, it's a feature that allows to break common chain analysis heuristics, where two participants build a transaction together.
Ability to plug-in your own Bitcoin Full node through Electrum Personal Server (EPS), ElectrumX or Electrs. Don't trust, verify for a maximum sovereignty.

    Offline mode
    Coldcard support
    Hardware Wallets
In case you don't have internet connection, BlueWallet will allow you to generate wallets or addresses to be able to receive offline.
Connect to your Coldcard wallet with ease. Support for PSBT and Watch-only wallets. Allows for receiving and sending transactions by signing them offline.
Ability to connect and work with Hardware Wallets that support PSBT. After importing your wallet on watch-only mode, go to the wallet options and turn on "hardware wallet" mode.
and so on including Lightning Wallets. However Lightning Wallets will be shutting down from Blue Wallet on April 30, 2023.

I want to share how to make Multisig Vault Blue Wallet Android.
Maybe this guide can help friends who need it.

Select or press add now continue by selecting the Type Vault and select Create.

@OP, In my opinion, the description of the Multisig Vault BlueWallet guide from the image listed above, the writing paragraphs are too short, so it tires the eyes when reading them.
Then in the quote from https://bluewallet.io/features/, I see some use left-aligned, and others use right-aligned. I suggest using all left-aligned paragraphs as used on the BlueWallet site.

I want to say that I did the process of how to create the Multisig Vault address on an Android smartphone, not on a laptop or PC, so when I preview it, it looks a little limited.

After I noticed you were right that for feature excerpts from BlueWallet it would be more interesting if all the paragraph layouts were all the same as on their site.

Thank you Husna QA for the suggest.

Now testing BlueWallet, it's a good wallet, like it very much! I appreciate the design: multiple accounts are depicted as bank cards with different colors, and color corresponds to the protocol: legacy is light green color, HD legacy is red, segwits are light blue or dark blue, P2SH is violet, the wallets without access to transactions are black. Devs have made a great work! Really well done!

Also I'd like devs to add the support for Taproot accounts, Unstoppable wallet already has it...

Thanks for sharing the detailed review about this wallet. I was looking for iOS based wallet and wanted to have handy wallet which will be able to sign and verify the messages. This is really helpful when I’m selling my artwork across borders and the payment is in bitcoins. I’m not fan of Electrum and Mycelium does not have easy option to do so. Plus it’s way buggy than any other wallet (still I am using it, that’s funny).

Anyway, I think I will make review about this wallet with updated version, and from the perspective of new user of the same. I am not sure is it just me or everyone but OP images are not visible at all??

When a topic is still actively providing information and discussing, why give birth to the same topic. If you want to discuss and share information that benefits many people regarding this wallet, including the iOS version, we invite you to share it in this thread.
Except this topic has been inactive for a long time.
I think this you can understand.

I plan to go back to fixing all the images I uploaded on this topic considering the images I uploaded using imgur.
The plan today I will fix using TalkImg with the help of [Script] Imgur to TalkImg - automatically fix your broken images (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5452662.0) created by @TryNinja. Suddenly @joker_josue as the initiator of TalkImg gave a message that there was a reconfiguration on the server,

Folks, I appreciate your interest in the project, but this has escalated a little more than expected.  ::)

I inform you that during the next few hours, there may be some disturbance in the upload of new images. Because I'm doing reconfiguration on the servers and sometimes it can take a few hours.

Thank you for your understanding and patience! As soon as the situation is more normalized, I will let you know.

EDIT: I recommend that you take a break from updating your topics, using this script, until I finish this maintenance that I'm doing, to avoid losing work.
Once again, thank you for your understanding.

I like this wallet too. I installed the last release recently, and discovered this: previously there were bookmarks of different accounts, each one in a different color, and they could be replaced easily just by swiping them, but now it doesn't work, and every account bookmark becomes the first in a row when you just tap it. IMHO it's quite irritating, I suppose it's better to remove this feature. I don't know what was the reason for devs to do this. I have Android 10, however, maybe it's due to this. And in general, the wallet is great! Thanks, devs!!!

What has been closed is the LndHub BlueWallet service. BlueWallet can still be a Lightning wallet; you must use your LND node or something else. Look at Settings-Network-Lightning Settings.

    You can't.
If you set it up with a hardware wallet you need to sign it with that.
If you set it up as a multisig there is no standard for signing with multisig as far as I know. Could have changed but last I looked it was not there.

And it's also a security thing. If you have a 2 of 3 multisig any 2 people can sign but you would never know which 2. Since they can spend the BTC it does not matter from that view but you would never be able to prove more then that.

My BlueWallet fails to synchronise with the network. It shows me that the Electrum server is connected, but the last transaction it can find was 16 days ago. After that day I had four transactions with the address linked to Bluewallet. I made those transactions via another software. And Bluewallet doesn’t know anything about them. It still consider my TX-output from Aug-27 as unspent. Of course, when I try to spend it from Bluewallet, it says that the coin cannot be used, but it does not renew the balance and the transactions list even after such transaction attempt.

I’ve imported the private key to the Electrum wallet on the same device, and it shows correct amount.

Does anyone have the same issue with BlueWallet?

Is the Bitcoin address used for transactions in other software the same as that in BlueWallet?

I assume that the other wallet is a Hierarchical Deterministic wallet so that during transactions, it can use a different address to process the return of unused funds, and it is not connected to the BlueWallet when you import it using the private key instead of using the seed phrase.

The address is the same. I see all the transactions of this address on mempool.space, but not in the BlueWallet.
Hi. Are you using your own node? Or someone else's?
No, I don’t have a full Bitcoin node. I check my transactions via a public blockchain explorer. Now I also can check and find all of them via Electrum wallet. It’s weird because both wallets (BlueWallet and Electrum) seem to use the same Electrum server as a source of information about transactions.

My BlueWallet fails to synchronise with the network.
The problem is probably from the server you have connected to.

Tap on the three dot button at top right corner of the window. Go to "Network" and then "Electrum Server". Enable "offline Mode" and then disable it.
With enabling and disabling "Offline mode", you will connect to a different electrum server and you will probably see your transactions and your correct balance.

The address is the same. I see all the transactions of this address on mempool.space, but not in the BlueWallet.

By default, BlueWallet chooses the server automatically. Try manually filling in the Electrum server in BlueWallet's Network settings (you can see the server list in the Electrum Wallet in the Tools-Network-Overview menu), then restart BlueWallet.

In the following example, I manually selected a server in BlueWallet and activated the Use SSL option:

You can see the history of the servers you have selected manually in Server History.

It seems so. But simple switching on and back off the offline mode didn’t change anything.
By default, BlueWallet chooses the server automatically. Try manually filling in the Electrum server in BlueWallet's Network settings (you can see the server list in the Electrum Wallet in the Tools-Network-Overview menu), then restart BlueWallet.
Thank you, it has helped. I’ve chosen the server from your screenshot (coinucopia), and now BlueWallet can find all my transactions, so the current balance is also calculated correctly.

What I will like Bluewallet developers to improve:

If you copy an address of a receiver, as you open Bluewallet, the wallet will ask you if you want to paste the address so that it can be used for sending bitcoin. Let us say you have more than one wallet on the wallet app and you last opened the second wallet. After you close the wallet, it can be in your mind that you last open the second wallet and if you want to use it to send bitcoin, you will think that you can just copy and paste from clipboard as Bluewallet ask you, if you paste, it will paste the address on the first wallet sending space. I almost wanted to make a mistake with it but my first wallet was not funded, I would have made the mistake by sending from the first wallet instead of the second.

The second thing is that paste what is on clipboard that it is asking by Bluewallet is annoying. You may copy the address for other thing but it will ask you about it. If I want to use Blue wallet to verify a message and I copy the address that I want to verify its message, it will not asked that than to paste the address on the sending space.

Another thing I do not like about Bluewallet is that it will not show the last thing you have done in the wallet. Like if you send bitcoin, it will not show it until you close the app and open it again.

The third thing is that the fee is not accurate, it is 1 sat/vbytes lower than mempool estimation.

It is a good wallet but it would be good if those things are corrected.

If you copy an address of a receiver, as you open Bluewallet, the wallet will ask you if you want to paste the address so that it can be used for sending bitcoin. ...........
To avoid such mistakes, disable "Read Clipboard". To do so, tap on the 3 dots button at top right corner of the screen and after that go to "General settings" and then "Privacy".

The third thing is that the fee is not accurate, it is 1 sat/vbytes lower than mempool estimation.
Different wallets and tools use different methods for fee estimation and take note that none of them are accurate.

As an Android [v13] user who did some tests in the past, I never experienced it, so it might have something to do with your device or its operating system [did it happen in iOS?].

The third thing is that the fee is not accurate, it is 1 sat/vbytes lower than mempool estimation.
In addition to hosseinimr93's comment, if you tap the green 1 sat/vByte button you'll get a different set of fees that are closer to what's listed on the mempool.space.

That’s synchronization issue, you don’t necessarily need to go out of the wallet to get this done. You just go to the top of the wallet and drag it down to allow it to reload, it will immediately update everything.

    Quote
The third thing is that the fee is not accurate, it is 1 sat/vbytes lower than mempool estimation.

I have also experienced this but it is actually not a problem because they use different estimators just like others have said. On most occasions they usually set the high priority fee higher than that on the mempool. I had paid 15sats/vbyte for transaction that could be confirmed fast for 9sats/vbyte. So what I do is to check the estimators and then customize my fees to my preferred rate.

One thing I would like the app on IOS to address is whenever you exit the app it should request for a password to login again even though it is immediately you exit. Most at times if you exit immediately you can get back into the wallet freely without it requesting a password.

I am using Bluewallet on two phones. The first phone is running Android 12 while the second phone is running Android 13. I have noticed this on Android 12 but recently I thought the error has been fixed until I used Bluewallet yesterday on Android 13 and I noticed the bug. I will make transaction on the Android 12 anytime I have coin on the wallet and see if it is not like that. If it is like that, I think the same bug should not affect the same phone which are not small phones.

Same as SFR10, tapping the green button or tapping the send button, the fee can change if you cancel sending, I mean when you repeat it again by pressing the send button the amount of the fee changes again or is no longer the same as the fee as on the first try you did.

It is a good wallet but it would be good if those things are corrected.
Apart from the technical answers that have been answered, I think the three weaknesses that you think developers need to improve can be tried to suggest to them via their github (https://github.com/BlueWallet/BlueWallet/issues) considering that bluewallet is an open source bitcoin wallet.

It is hosseinimr93 that gave me the perfect answer which is that wallets do not have good fee estimation. If I look at mempool.space, the fee is always 1 sat/vbye higher than the fee estimation on Bluewallet. There are times that this can cause you a problem. An example is when the fee is not going below 10 sat/vbyte recently during last weekend but Bluewallet is estimating 9 sat/vbyte. If you used 10 sat/vbyte, the transaction that would have gotten confirmed at 10 sat/vbyte will not get confirmed at 9 say/vbyte and you will noticed that the transaction do not get confirmed throughout that day. Go to last weekend on mempool to know what I am talking about. You can use https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#BTC,1w,weight for it, I have set it to a week already. There was 10 sat/vbyte also on mempool.space, the day I am talking about but Bluewallet estimated 9 sat/vbyte. If you are using Bluewallet frequently, you will understand what I am talking about. There was a time it was 14 sat/vbyte but Bluewallet was estimating 13 sat/vbyte.

Today I faced a challenge while trying to make a transaction out of my BlueWallet. With the mempool less congested and the estimated fee rate from mempool.space was 2sats/vbyte same was shown as the top priority on the BlueWallet with 1sat/vbyte been the minimum I decide not get greedy although I didn’t wasn’t in hurry for the transaction so I customized fee rate 1.5sats/vbyte, and I got an error so I opted for the high priority fee rate of 2 sats/vbyte but still the I got the error in the image below. I thought it was sync error and I logged out and log into the BlueWallet again and sync it but same thing occurred at that 2sats/vbyte fee rate, I was only able to get my transaction broadcasted with a 3 sats/vbyte.

Does this mean BlueWallet doesn’t allow a transaction to proceed with a fee of 300 sats less. If at all the mempool was congested and the purging fee rate was above my fee rate I would have thought other wise although it wouldn’t still be proper. But I wan snyc the mempool then and 2sats/vbyte was ok to get my transaction confirmed in the next block but BlueWallet didn’t allow me to proceed.

Has anyone else experienced similar problem before?

IIRC, there was a user who mentioned the same thing in the past but I couldn't find his/her post. The good thing is that this issue isn't directly related or rather limited to BlueWallet only and to find the answers to your questions, you can refer to the following thread: Mempool min fee (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5313788.0)

    300 sats? Do you mean 3 sat/vbyte?
No, the minimum fee rate you have to use, so that your transaction can be broadcasted depends on the network state.

Since different nodes can have different setting and different purging fee rate, you could probably broadcast your transaction with connecting to a different server.

According to mempool.space, the purging fee rate for nodes that use default setting is now 1.76 sat/vbyte.

On this page, each application should only display one icon. However, after updating to the latest version of the BlueWallet app through the Play Store, why do I have two BlueWallet icons? Honestly, I'm starting to worry if one of these apps is fake. It's a bit suspicious because other apps have never experienced this double icon issue.

I searched in Settings > App Management > and looked for BlueWallet in the search bar, but I only found one app under the name 'BlueWallet'.

Is this a bug from MIUI? Or is it a bug from BlueWallet? Has anyone else experienced what I'm experiencing? Honestly, I'm starting to see this as a threat because I'm sure no one wants their device to be infected with malware or viruses.

Allow me to help answer because I have experienced the same thing where two bluewallet application icons appeared on an Android mobile device. After updating to the latest version, the double application icon disappeared.

I found a solution regarding the dual application problem on Android when visiting GiftHub Bluewallet. This problem is contained in the new version update.

I like this wallet and use it on mobile phones.  It is especially convenient to present wallets in the form of multi-colored imitation plastic cards.  However, the other day I came across the fact that the wallet does not accept Taproot privatekey.  And accordingly, this functionality is missing.  Is there any information whether the Bluewallet devs are planning to finally add the full functionality of Taoroot, as is done in many other wallets.
It’s probably time to prepare such a release and present it to users

There is no information regarding Bluewallet's plans to add the Taproot feature. It can be seen from issue (http://) on GitHub. On their github, there are already around 337 issues with 38 labels and no suggestions regarding Taproot.
You can try to suggest if it is possible for you to do it in the new issue section. Who knows, if you are willing to propose, Bluewallet could add the Taproot feature.

A request to introduce support for Taproot (https://github.com/BlueWallet/BlueWallet/issues/3880) was made as early as 2021, and it's still not there. I have personally never used it, and I am not sure what benefits it will give you if you are not going to use a multisig setup. I know that Muun wallet (https://muun.com/) is one mobile wallet that supports Taproot. Check it out if you are interested. But take note that they do things a bit differently, and don't have the standard recovery phrases we are used to see in other bitcoin wallets.

BlueWallet was available again with the v6.5.0 update.

    What a fast development!

Within several days we faced v6.5.1 and v6.5.2 (https://github.com/BlueWallet/BlueWallet/releases) updates which added  "export individual private keys for addresses" (v6.5.1), "support more wallet export files from Coldcard" ( (v6.5.1) and " Trigger Haptic feedback on Copy Priv Key" (v6.5.2 ) not to mention epy  whole host of important fixes like " crash when editing multisig cosigners" , "Biometrics unlock", etc..

Yes it was fast indeed. Let me ask something though. What would be a good use case for this: "export individual private keys for addresses" ? With HD wallets, I would argue that individual private keys aren't very useful, are they? I mean one key for all addresses, isn't it better? Unless you want to use the individual key for security reasons, so as if someone gains access to (let's say) 3 of they keys, they don't gain access to your entire wallet.

I don't identify myself with those adherents who get used to doing the individual private keys export into wallets as, in my believe, this greatly complicates the process of wallets backup. However, I have  met ( on various occasions)   in my crypto-path people who do this at changing their wallets.

Yeah I agree with you about the complexity, but I am curious why people do it. Have they told you any info in regards with that? I mean, my question is genuine, I don't see a reason to do it, but it's a feature and of course it is not mandatory. Therefore, it's nice-to-have but I don't find it very useful. The other features are good! I like it. BlueWallet is a very good wallet in my opinion, so kudos to the devs.

Yeah I agree with you about the complexity, but I am curious why people do it.

I think some of them are just afraid (or lazy) to make transactions from the old wallet  addresses to addresses on new wallet.

The others  may have received BTC  as a gift. Consider  as a case the physical coins or pieces of  paper accompanied by engraved/ etched or printed  private keys on them.

Thank you for informing us here regarding the last few releases of the BlueWallet version. Now there is another new release which has been updated to v6.5.4 from v6.5.3.
Version [v6.5.3] (https://github.com/BlueWallet/BlueWallet/releases/tag/v6.5.3) FIX: Mac crash and FIX: Scan button on Broadcast tool.
In [v6.5.4] (https://github.com/BlueWallet/BlueWallet/releases/tag/v6.5.4) which was released a few hours ago it concerns ADD: Don't allow macOS app to run if OS is unsupported, FIX: plus/minus icon in quorum settings is reversed, and FIX: Pull to refresh.

New v6.5.7 (https://github.com/BlueWallet/BlueWallet/releases) release for BlueWallet has fixed two bugs that irritated users of previous versions:
    • "Security screen froze on load"
    • "could not scan cosigner when creating a multisig vault"

Previous one  namely v6.5.6 has  added explanations for AirDrop usage and iOS supports passcode.
Gradually moving ahead to the point of the perfect wallet

Maybe in the future there will be more updates to improve this wallet if there are issues that need improvement.
While using BlueWallet, the only oddity I experienced was a confusing double icon, although it didn't take long for attention to be fixed.

With every MacOS and iOS update, I don't pay much attention to it because I don't use these two devices.
    Btw, thanks.

Developer is working so hard. v6.5.8 (https://github.com/BlueWallet/BlueWallet/releases) is available to download and improve  BlueWallet.

    • "ADD: Discard changes prompt in view/edit multisig keys"
    • "ADD: Northern Lori language (#6223)"
    • "FIX: Multisig Forget alerts where visible after closing modal (macOS)"

Behind this update is a large work done. This is evidenced by comparing what has been changed (https://github.com/BlueWallet/BlueWallet/compare/v6.5.7...v6.5.8) in v6.5.8 relative to v6.5.7

    UPD.   New  v6.5.9 release

The developer continues to try hard to create a more powerful bluewallet as a Bitcoin wallet.

And his efforts are  focused  on that creation at all times. A few days later new v6.6.1 (https://github.com/BlueWallet/BlueWallet/releases) has followed:

    • ADD: Do not start analytics native code if disabled
    • ADD: Allow user to cancel reminder in case they are not ready to decide
    • ADD: SSL connection to Widget calls

    Plus six fixes.

Did anyone loose the ability to talk to their own lightning node through TOR when you are on the same local network as the node itself?
If I am on 5G I can use TOR to get to it.
When I am on the same network as the machine running LND hub it will not connect using TOR but will using the local 192.168.x.x. IP

Don't know if it's bluewallet, TOR or something else.
The other side is I don't remember the last time I used BlueWallet local to the node I usually just use my laptop to connect to REL on the IP.
