Title: Bitcoin will not become the world currency.
Post by: TungTresa on December 06, 2022, 12:43:29 PM
In 2019, I was fascinated by Bitcoin after I was introduced to it. I have been following the attitude of governments towards bitcoin and hope it will be promoted. However there has been too much negative news in the past two years. I reacquaint myself with bitcoin and fiat money.

Money is a tool for exchanging goods and services in human social life, and whichever tool makes it into the system becomes the de facto currency. Governments regulate the economy by issuing money, which means they can control it. Bitcoin, on the other hand, cannot be controlled, which is why we like it, but also why governments don't like it.

After I figured it out, I no longer expect Bitcoin to be recognized by the state, and it doesn't need to be. It is part of a special asset, not a currency.
So I don't think Bitcoin is going to become a fiat currency.

So I don't think Bitcoin is going to become a fiat currency.

I don't think that anyone questioned that anywhere, or am I wrong?

The point of crypto as a whole is to be outside of the gov regulated bubble, not to become one.

Bitcoin is already well recognized by all the world governments and everyone who uses internet already knows about it (whether they own it or not).

So I don't think Bitcoin is going to become a fiat currency.
Yeah, its way better than that inflationary shitcoin, isnt it?

Everyone admits that...it's been discussed many times about it.

Bitcoin doesn't need to be made into a world currency, besides Satoshi Nakamoto doesn't agree that Bitcoin is made a world currency, that's not the purpose of the creators of Bitcoin, the world has its own understanding and Satoshi also has a different understanding from the world.

You see what I quoted below.
Quote
The purpose of creating the Bitcoin digital currency is to provide a currency that operates in a decentralized manner: spread/not centralized, so that no one party can control both the price and distribution, with its transparency, anyone can see a transactionvia bitcoin explorer.

If you understand the purpose above, I'm sure you don't want to talk about Bitcoin and world currencies.

The understanding of world/paper currencies with Bitcoin/digital is very much different.

Bitcoin is a currency whether you accept it or not and it was never supposed to become the "world currency" it is supposed to be a global currency which it is.

Governments regulate the economy by issuing money,
Wrong. Governments regular the economy by setting rules and enforcing them not by printing money.

Quote
Bitcoin, on the other hand, cannot be controlled, which is why we like it, but also why governments don't like it.
It depends on the country and the government. This is not a global issue.

Who said that we were expecting Bitcoin to be a world 'currency'?
Nobody here can say that Bitcoin is a currency, it is a speculative asset with variable value every moment but has a limited supply and nobody can change that. On other side, currency that we use in our daily lives are not only controlled by government but they can print more money which makes it an inflationary asset with a fixed value (just like USDT and other stablecoins are in crypto world). We love the way Bitcoin is being criticised against fiat because people are still unaware of what Bitcoin really is.

Bitcoin price was very high in 2020-2021. Then I think Bitcoin will become the world currency. Bitcoin is used in almost every country in the world today. But currently the price of Bitcoin is very low. And that's because I think the Bitcoin price is going down because of the two countries. And some countries have banned the use of Bitcoin. Now I think if the price of bitcoin hits in the new year then bitcoin can go back to previous level.I think Bitcoin will become the global coin in the future.

That's not what was written on the whitepaper after all. Well, it wasn't aiming to be the world currency since it will just coexist with other currencies just like what we are seeing right now. Do you think government will be able to kill Bitcoin? No, I doubt that.

Let me quote the topic title and your opinion:

Bitcoin will not  become the world currency.

So I don't think Bitcoin is going to become a fiat currency.

I am in Africa and I use bitcoin to pay for a product in Canada. My brother lives in US and he sent bitcoin to me in just less than 20 minutes and I converted it to fiat and spend it. See El Salvador using bitcoin for remittance.

I can send bitcoin to anyone in the world.

With what I said, is bitcoin not a world currency?

Well the Inflation of Fiat is not really the issue since it is intended by the government. The Problem is that bitcoin is not stabel but it deflationary and that is a much bigger issue.

After I figured it out, I no longer expect Bitcoin to be recognized by the state, and it doesn't need to be.
But Bitcoin is already legalized as a legal tender in at least two countries (El Salvador and Central African Republic) so it already achieved that (implementation is questionable though).

So I don't think Bitcoin is going to become a fiat currency.
It was never Bitcoin's creator intention anyway, but instead to give us the alternative. If by "becoming fiat currency" mean replacing fiat, Bitcoin has its use even without achieving that (which is imho unrealistic anyway) and majority of bitcoiners are fine with that.

But Bitcoin can be used as currency to buy some products. This is also true because the example above means its value is better than the fiat that we adopt for hundreds of years. The fact that the government kept talking about it like ECB having a blog about its last stand means, it really affected them.

The Senate already has been trying to regulate the crypto markets too. BTC is bigger than the world currency.

OP we have fiat currency which is the old and traditional means of exchange used over the years, when bitcoi was introduced by Satoshi, the entire world accept it because it does not only serve the purpose of currency but also as a good asset to store of value and profitability which they couldn't get in fiat over thebyears than inflation, the importance and values is what ee are after for now, government may not adopt bitcoin as legal tender for now but they all know it has better offer than fiat could give at all times.

Well the Inflation of Fiat is not really the issue since it is intended by the government. The Problem is that bitcoin is not stabel but it deflationary and that is a much bigger issue.

Another order of magnitude or two of price increases will help bring price stability to bitcoin.  An inflationary currency is a huge problem.  Over 30 years, you can lose more than half your purchasing power in a low inflation environment.  In a high inflation environment like now in many places, it happens much faster.  Something that cost $1 in 1992 costs over $2 today.  Something that cost $1 in 1982 costs more than $3 today.

A non-inflationary currency like bitcoin can protect you from the people who want to steal the products of your life and mind with the hidden, outrageous, abhorrent, highly regressive inflation tax.

Why are people so fixated with the idea of BTC being a replacement for fiat? I do think that it can co-exist with fiat and serve its purpose, if not better.

Imagine if BTC were to be a global currency replacing fiat- that would mean a disaster for most countries given its nature. Not to mention, its limited supply would cause hyperinflation and majority of the whales can somehow manipulate its price on the market.

That is why, fiat and cryptocurrency can co-exist with each other and serve their respective purposes.

It seems a lot of people see bitcoin as a replacement for all other currencies, but I don't think that's possible because if it did, there would be one world government, and it's likely that both would exist and complement each other.
and bitcoin was presented after the 2008 global financial crisis as an alternative currency, independent of any government, a way to enable everyone to escape the shackles of corrupt institutions.
so I don't think bitcoin will replace existing currencies but will overcome their lack of finding their niche with other quality crypto ecosystems.
it's just my opinion but the truth is no one knows even if that happens maybe we won't be in this world anymore. :'(

yet here we are using Bitcoin. somehow we are rejecting the CBDC they are trying to shove to our asses.
we are not all using BTC as currency. many are just speculators trading it to make money in the market which they still prefer fiat. still the use of BTC depend to what you do with it.

world currency is too much to aim because of the government's negative pronouncement to it but the more they prevent its adoption, the number of users increase every bull run. BTC will still be the eternal winner.

I don’t think anyone wants or expects bitcoin to replace fiat and become a world currency. I see it like an alternative and better means of payment. Bitcoin is unique and not In competition any means of payment(fiat).
Perhaps, it’s the uniqueness of bitcoin that gets people fazed and then thoughts about bitcoin taking over fiat begin to materialize in their heads.
I think you could say bitcoin isn’t a world currency as every country has its individual currency. In my opinion, bitcoin wasn’t intended to be a world currency

Satoshi never say Bitcoin will become a world currency or global reserved currency, so it must be someone that guessing Bitcoin will become a world currency because it can beat inflation and decentralized. While actually because of the 100% decentralization, it will make many governments doesn't want to accept Bitcoin since they can't control it. At least Bitcoin must not get banned and government should allow if there's merchants that want to accept Bitcoin, even though Bitcoin isn't become legal tender in that's country.

It's enough to encourage mass adoption.

Anyone that is expecting that bitcoin is going to replace fiat currencies or become the main form of money around the world is going to be disappointed, even if the fiat system collapsed governments will impose a new system on top of it because they can, but that should not really be news for anyone that actually follows this market, so what can bitcoin achieve? Bitcoin can become an alternative for those that want to reduce their participation on the fiat system, and that is more than enough for me and a great deal of people.

With this explanation, it is a clear sign you do not understand what Bitcoin actually stands for, because had it been you knew, you must have understood that there is a difference between Bitcoin and fiat currency (i.e dollar, pounds & Euro). And secondly, you must have understood that Bitcoin was designed to take power over the control over our finance from the hands of central banks/government to private individuals through the use of it's decentralized Blockchain, which is the reason why most government banned it or restricted in it's respective countries.

I see some members are again resorting to an old argument of one bitcoin is equal to one bitcoin. This is nonsense and not practical at all! Bitcoin can't replace the world order of fiat economy. Bitcoin can become a parallel currency system alongside the fiat economy and that's what is happening slowly.

Bitcoin is a super volatile asset and unless its price is fixed, there's no way people in reality will practice one bitcoin is equal to one bitcoin.

Stopped reading after this part. Are you serious? Of course the government is doing all it can to remain in control of currency. Especially when it comes to surveillance. Bitcoin was created because its not supposed to be part of the governments money scheme. Its something completely in a different system. Its decentralized and public. But also can be anonymous and impossible to trace to a person, if you know your way around erasing your tracks.

So why would anyone want to get rid of their freedom and listen to what the government promotes?  ???::)

I don't think it was ever said that Bitcoin was to become a fiat currency.  Rather a p2p payment method that is much more than a currency.  But seriously are we still talking about the price of Bitcoin?  When will it be understood that 1btc=1btc ?  If you are anchored to the price you will never understand the true value of Bitcoin, you have to start looking beyond to understand what financial freedom is and beyond.

There are periods of negative news and positive news, depending on how the price is moving, and depending on whether there are bad events to spread FUD over. But there isn't anything happening that discredits Bitcoin itself and its usage. It's always something else, like potential legislation, centralized platforms (exchanges), investments by major companies or pulling investments out, etc. All such things are not essential for Bitcoin itself.
Bitcoin doesn't need to be recognized by countries, but it is recognized by many, and some recognize it as a currency. Bitcoin can be used in different ways, and perhaps the predominant way isn't that of being a currency, but it doesn't mean that Bitcoin is not a currency or that its future as a form of money is doomed.

Bitcoin is more an investor's tool than a currency, and that's why some countries call it a digital asset. it wasn't made to be a daily-use coin. And even satoshi mentioned, Bitcoin will be worth a lot of money or zero, which were the two possible ways.

The main problem with bitcoin as a daily-use coin is the fees, if we want to buy a soda or something cheap, doesn't worth to pay the fees while they cost almost the same amount than the soda.

I'm not sure what you mean exactly by saying 'Bitcoin is going to become a fiat currency.' or what you expect to see in the future of bitcoin but from what we can see bitcoin is getting famous everyday sn ad getting more demand in it by the time, which can be good for bitcoin in the near future to get more demand but do expect to see bitcoin being used like fiat currency because bitcoin is a cryptocurrency, not a fiat currency which can have much difference like the total supply and beating decentralized.

Yeah, it was never intended nor being created to replace fiat and would kick it out into its current position. It was really just made for the sake on making out transactions without 3rd party involvement, which surprisingly
ended up on having a good value since the community do able to see the relevance when it comes into its utility. It is really just people are way too optimistic on what they do currently saw about Bitcoin.
Bitcoin would really remain out as an alternative and wont become the main currency we do have.People should really not really expect nor hopeful that much on what are the things that they do have
in mind.So that it wont really make frustrate them when it comes for these things not to happen.

The fundamental concept of Bitcoin was never for it to become the world currency and it's not hard to understand that no government will ever rate BTC over their national fiat currency which represents the country's symbol and heritage. However, this doesn't mean some countries that understand the potential of BTC won't legalize it as legal payment.

It is part of a special asset, not a currency.
So I don't think Bitcoin is going to become a fiat currency.
Bitcoin is a special asset and it is also a currency because it every used as a medium of exchange and payment of service is technically a currency. Nevertheless, there's no way BTC will be fiat currency since it can not be held and not issued by the government.

It is developed in such a way to eliminate the middle man as well as set as to serve as an alternate to the traditional fiat system. More of its usage is connected with gambling and illegal activities. Now slowly things have changed and people prioritise for investment and on daily needs. The fee is always a concern on day to day usage, but for products of higher price it is worth it.

I think too. it seems that bitcoin will be difficult to become a world currency, because the price of bitcoin is not stable, unlike dollars and so on, which have stable prices, (the meaning of stable here is that the volume of prices fluctuates not far.)
while bitcoin is unstable, so of course it will be difficult if it is used as currency.
but not a few of our friends buy and sell using bitcoin, but that's only a small part of the human population who make transactions using bitcoin.

but of course we won't know for the future.

Meaning of stable when talking about coins is when the price of a coin is pegged with fiat or another coin, just like wBTC that was pegged with bitcoin, or USDT, USDC and TUSD that is pegged in price with United States dollars. Fiat itself is not having a stable price, the price is controlled by the central bank.

while bitcoin is unstable, so of course it will be difficult if it is used as currency.

Did you know that only just 5% of the world population in total are still using bitcoin? Point of correction, many of them that has it has used it as a payment before because of the inconveniences of first converting to fiat. There was a time I do not have fiat, I have no option than to send bitcoin to a friend that wanted to borrow money from me, because he knows about crypto and how to convert it to fiat, he did that process, instead of me doing it to send him fiat.

This is impossible; it is more likely to happen that Bitcoin would be used across countries but along with fiat currencies. A decentralized crypto technology being the main medium for payment is a punch to the moon and I myself won't cannot visualize it in the future. One reason is taxation issues from the governments.

Nope, even in the future. Bitcoin would be surely having issues of total market behavior. Also , if ever there's that smallest chance for this thing to process, there will are lots of changes in terms of overall monetary system if that's the case. Fiat is an existing medium and things are not that easy to change. As we can see at the present, daily products are still on peso currency (perhaps with the currency in my country).

Obviously fiat currency will be running but we will be able to see good movement from Bitcoin also. It is fast, secure and it reduces our fees. I'm curious about Satoshi the creator of bitcoin if he ever considers bitcoin to become a global currency, since he doesn't trade a single sat. From his actions its certain that he aimed at a building a decentralize network for exchanging not only currencies but information and programs. The problem with bitcoin today is what, OP, is writing about. Expecting bitcoin to be accepted everywhere and by everybody in the world. You see that even some country's currencies are not accepted by everybody except it is changed to their own currency. That's how bitcoin works, some people may not take your bitcoin but, if you exchange it to their local currency they'll definitely accept it. That's how these currencies work. On the cryptocurrency space, if I don't accept doge, you need to change the doge to bitcoin before I'll trade with you. So, in a nutshell, bitcoin is accepted everywhere, just that it's not hodled everywhere.

Bitcoin will never become a world currency simply because it's decentralized by design. Governments won't easily give away their control over Fiat for something they can't control. If they adopt Bitcoin, they will use it alongside Fiat (not as a replacement of Fiat). I'm fine with that as long as Bitcoin works as intended. Who said Bitcoin needs to become a "world currency" to succeed? The Internet is already global, so technically, Bitcoin can be used anywhere in the world without restrictions/limitations whatsoever (yes, even in oppressive countries like China and Russia thanks to its decentralized and censorship-resistant design).

We should expect constant opposition from central banks and governments against Bitcoin simply because it gives people the ability to experience true financial freedom. I wouldn't care about this, as long as the blockchain protocol remains decentralized. Who knows if Bitcoin lasts for generations? Just my opinion :)

Bitcoin is really not a fiat currency. Fiat currency is the opposite of Bitcoin. For me, that's one of the many reasons why Bitcoin is still here, because of our current problem with traditional finance.
Bitcoin got a lot of differences from fiat currency, just like the unlimited supply of fiat currencies versus Bitcoin.

I respect your opinion but seems you are using the wrong words. Maybe you want to say, Bitcoin will not be globally accepted or will become official legal tender for all of the countries.

Well the Inflation of Fiat is not really the issue since it is intended by the government. The Problem is that bitcoin is not stabel but it deflationary and that is a much bigger issue.

Inflation is intended but it's the size that matters!

1% - 5% inflation is ok. 5%-10% is alarming but bearable. Above 10% it starts to destroy economy. If it's not managed it can lead to bank runs and people burning cash like they did in Zimbabwe and many other collapsing countries.

This means that you're wrong by saying inflation is not an issue. Ask people in Turkey if they think it's not.

In the first place, I don't think Satoshi Nakamoto envisioned to make Bitcoin the globally recognized currency just like the USA Dollar which is being used in international trading and commerce. We could never expect big governments of the world to make Bitcoin as the official currency by choice all because this is something beyond their control and manipulation, not to mention its extreme volatility which can make planning into the future unrealistic - just imagine preparing a national budget pegged in Bitcoin and only to see its value slashed by 40% the following year! The way I am seeing is that Bitcoin is meant to be the best alternative currency that people can hold and use. Bitcoin is of the people, for and by the people and it made me realize also that the entrance of big business into Bitcoin make things unruly just like the direct and indirect side-effects of FTX collapse to Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is not going to become a global currency because, there are many seen and unseen forces that will keep influencing the financial system in order to maintain their power and their capacity to profit from it. Secondly, despite the fact that bitcoin is potentially unstoppable, governments that want to safeguard the authority of their sovereignty therefore, they are finding several ways to at the very least attempt to stifle BTC.

This is only one of the few countries where bitcoin can be used freely to exchange for foreign currency. Of course, this is an excellent phenomenon, and I believe that in the future Bitcoin will be used in more countries than the current ban.

The goal of Bitcoin is not to become the world currency, and no one wants it to be the world currency. As a currency, it will coexist with other currencies and cannot replace other currencies.
Bitcoin is not so much a currency as it is a tool for investors. Investing in Bitcoin can avoid inflation, and long-term holding can also make profits.

It's more like big banks and funds, on the contrary, are trying to buy bitcoin! Because they may be no less interested in Bitcoin than ordinary investors! Of course, such news is probably not advertised to the general public, but it is clear that banks or large corporations are also interested in buying bitcoin!

OP, you should know that bitcoin was created as a currency or means of payment. Bitcoin is a new currency that you can use for unlimited transactions, it is not controlled by any government and authority and is completely decentralized. If you don't agree to recognize it as currency, that's fine because you may have other options for making transactions. The fact is bitcoin is not the only currency accepted in this world and bitcoin is not the main currency, so bitcoin should be an alternative currency for anyone who needs it and supports it.

Governments can certainly consider bitcoin as a currency and adopt it, that's because they know what its advantages and advantages are over fiat. Even if they will never do away with fiat, then they know what bitcoin's economic value is.

It will never. :D

But let's return to the main question if Bitcoin can become a world currency. It depends on how do we understand the term world currency. If it is about that Bitcoin can be used globally one day not meeting significant restrictions from governments, I think it is possible. Not immediately, not even very soon, but in the not so far future.

And if we talk about that Bitcoin will become an only currency for entire world, it hardly can be so. Because of idea of decentralization: Bitcoin is decentralized by itself, but it also means that a financial system around it is also getting the traits of decentralization. So now we've got lots of altcoins and there will be even more in the future. Bitcoin can't centralize the financial system just arount itself because of own decentralized nature.

Sure, bitcoin will always be bitcoin, there is no need to become a centralized product like currency, and as long as governments exist, bitcoin will never replace fiat money. Those are just a bit exaggerated thoughts of bitcoin fanatics. I never want bitcoin to become a currency because it will be controlled and become stable, then we cannot make a profit so don't expect it to become a currency.

I know that the government opposes bitcoin and they never want bitcoin to become the day to day currency, but for low long the can control the people. We all know that fiat currencies globally are losing value because of inflation. Sooner or later, people will let go of the fiat currency and invest in something, which is a store of value and bitcoin will be the best option for them.
Do not lose hope as the next finical crisis will bring more boom to the cryptocurrencies and bitcoin will gain more popularity and eventually, the government would have no choice but to accept bitcoin.

Obviously, Bitcoin wasn't created to replace the use of fiat nor will become a world currency and bitcoin is not in competition with the fiats, in fact, it's the other way around as the fiats that are backed by the governments are the ones who sees the bitcoin as their competitor because it's been already widely used and been praised by a lot of people around the world especially investors.

It doesn't have to be the world's currency. Surely some visionaries of bitcoin may think it should be but for me it doesn't have to be recognized in that high a scale for it to be useful to humans. Bitcoin adoption in its root just means a majority of the world's population using crypto or in this case bitcoin for transactions and some daily processes that requires it. Even right now that only a small portion of the population uses it we are already seeing its great effects. Also you are right, the attitude of the government regarding bitcoin and its usage is too sour for it to really see good usage, so even if global adoption is indeed achievable in the foreseeable feature, it must come with a huge paradigm shift on the governments' part to be realized.

As in the quote bitcoin wasn't innovated to end the usage of fiat system and take its position. Bitcoin was found to be better than the fiat system in all aspects. This makes the traditional currency to create opposition against the usage of bitcoin. This is why we come to see news about different countries and it's governments standing against the usage of bitcoin.

Slowly the countries that were against the usage of bitcoin have come with the plan of accepting the usage. Some country have legalized it whereas few have regulated the usage.

Bitcoin is already an universal currency for the reason of getting converted to any currency with ease. This isn't possible even with the dollar, so in one form it have already reached the state of being a world currency.

I highly agree if the government wanted to obliterate Bitcoin support and adoption, they can easily do that.  They can ban Bitcoin usage in their country and make those who do not follow set behind bars.  Most of the government is actually being lenient on Bitcoin because the see something on it that can profit them.  Bitcoin can be the world's great alternative currency but it will not become the world currency because there will be authorities preventing that.

True, citizens are being controlled by the government through laws and the constitution. We are set to follow the government law and there is nothing we can do with it unless we revolted and create our own government which I don't think is a good idea.

So you are saying that the failure of fiat currency is the meddling of the financial institution in a transaction?  We all know that Bitcoin is created to enable cheaper person to person borderless electronic transfers without the need for financial institution approval. That is according to the Bitcoin whitepaper.

Well, today, Bitcoin is both an asset and a currency. It is being accepted by businesses all over the world, and people are spending Bitcoin to pay for goods and services. With its anti-inflationary design, however, it is also being treated as an asset, a way to store inter-generational wealth.

Not only anti-inflationary but a deflationary design that makes Bitcoin rarer as more people lost their wallet private key.

As to governments not liking Bitcoin, it is understandable, of course. However, since they cannot stop it anyway, it doesn't matter.

Government hate anything they can't control so Bitcoin being decentralized is one of those that government doesn't want to get involved with originally, but with the promising possible profit from that young industry, government are forced to regulate instead of banning Bitcoin.

With all of these things, still Bitcoin will not become the world currency because the government will not approve it.

Besides the fact that Fiat is centralized, its supply constantly grows over time (something known as inflation). Bitcoin is the opposite of this, by not only being a decentralized cryptocurrency no one can stop, but also being finite by design (deflationary). Satoshi made sure to create Bitcoin a unique kind of cryptocurrency, unlike anything we've ever seen before. We can never expect governments to ditch Fiat in favor of Bitcoin, especially when all they want is control over society. Without control, it would be complete chaos (according to them).

I'm fine with Bitcoin being an alternative than a replacement of Fiat as long as it fulfills its purpose in the real world. If things go on as they should, we should expect Bitcoin to live alongside Fiat for generations. I'm pretty sure most (if not all) countries will adopt Bitcoin as a secondary means of payment (legal tender) in the future. Who knows if we'll become rich by being early adopters of the revolution? Just my thoughts ;D

But is there no Egyptian, Bangladeshi, Iranian who owns Bitcoin today?

When this happens, I will trust bitcoin the more. Bitcoin on it's own has all the capability to rule the world but it needs some other technological help and physical laws to enhance it.

The world  is watching, freedom fighters are watching, bitcoin is coming, total freedom is the destination. When leaders will be elected with blockchain and laws made with blockchain.

That is the whole point actually. The aim was to be outside of any authority control over our money. Nobody wants another entity monitoring how much they hold and how much they earn within a week. There has been plenty of threads like these back in the days.
I am going to be honest that I thought that having Bitcoin as a world's currency would be a great thing to happen, but then I realized that it could be great thing, but it is not the Bitcoin that we know and loved like we always used to love.

I can understand where you are coming from. But you also need to look at the past and the road that BTC has walked through.
There's been a lot of ups and downs. But here BTC stands.
Current market situation has not been that much good and this has become kind of the main reason why people are losing their faith in Bitcoin.
Specially those who are new to the platform and have a less understanding about it.
The past does not determine the present or future, but it does teach us some lesson. If BTC were to fail and just carry a legacy as a name, then that would have happened a long time ago.

Every few days we are hearing news, Good news about BTC. Imagine using a landline in this era. Money has become the same as that. Banking can be done by online now. Then why can't crypto take over that?
I have total faith in this and pretty sure this will happen sooner than expected.

So I don't think Bitcoin is going to become a fiat currency.

Bitcoin will never be a fiat currency.  For a reason given by the definition of fiat currency.
Quote
What Is Fiat Money?
Fiat money is a government-issued currency that is not backed by a physical commodity, such as gold or silver, but rather by the government that issued it. The value of fiat money is derived from the relationship between supply and demand and the stability of the issuing government, rather than the worth of a commodity backing it. Most modern paper currencies are fiat currencies, including the U.S. dollar, the euro, and other major global currencies.

Bitcoin is not a government-issued currency, even if it is recognized as legal tender,  Bitcoin was created not by the government but by a visionary individual/group under the guise of Satoshi Nakamoto.  So basically Bitcoin will never be issued or re-issued by the government because of several grounds.  One of which is the government has no control over its production/creation.

To become a world currency, every nation must acknowledge Bitcoin and use it as one of their national currency which is somehow impossible.

So I don't think Bitcoin is going to become a fiat currency.

Due to its inability to function as a fiat, bitcoin will never become one. Government controls our wealth in their banks and keeps an eye on how we spend it. Because of regulations placed on fiat currencies, they are accepted by all governments as a form of exchange. Many people worldwide are attempting to accept Bitcoin as a form of exchange similar to fiat because it offers a different way to manage our wealth and increase its value by holding it as it might increase over time.

Of course, Bitcoin's nature is quite opposite to fiat and that's why Bitcoin can't become fiat. But main question of the topic is if Bitcoin can become a world currency, it is not the same.

Government's control can be in different forms. In the pre fiat era governments were okay with non fiat national currencies. So fiat form of money is not smth inescapable and indispensable for governments.

I think it may be an economical issue if the world has one currency as its only currency.
Bitcoin is more advantageous than other currencies and the list is large, but I would want to see a world where everyone is giving the choice at their own opinion be it’s Fiat or Bitcoin.

Do not get this wrong, I was not talking about foreign currency, if you use bitcoin for remittance or to make cross border transfer, the person you transferred it to will only have to convert it to their local currency, so that is not foreign currency. Secondly is that it is not in only US, it happens in many part of the world in many countries, who knows that I sent bitcoin from my noncustodial wallet to someone aboard or vice versa? That is difficult to know.

For now yes it won't because there are so many countries who disallow it but who knows in the future maybe they will change their minds and start to realize that they should have allowed btc long time ago because it had some benefits which can help them or their people. There are countries who currently accepts btc as an asset an not as a currency but this is better than totally banning it. Many of us just treat btc as an asset anyway.

I think that's because they find btc too valuable to be spent away. Btc transaction fees can sometimes rise and then the transaction can sometimes be slow. This can be one of the reason on why they don't like to use btc as a currency.

This has always been the dream of the simple people that bitcoin will become the world's currency, meaning that the day will come when fiat money will be finally compensated for in bitcoin.  In my opinion, this is technically impossible due to the main characteristics of Bitcoin, including the number of decimals, which does not exceed eight digits, meaning that it is indivisible as required.
In one of the forward-looking theories, some scholars asserted that Bitcoin should have a price equal to or greater than $100 million per Bitcoin if we want Bitcoin to replace the US dollar only.  What about the rest of the major currencies?
Bitcoin was not designed to eliminate fiat money, and with its distinctive design, it has become the real world currency, and I do not see a real need to completely dispense with fiat.

In my opinion, this is technically impossible due to the main characteristics of Bitcoin, including the number of decimals, which does not exceed eight digits, meaning that it is indivisible as required.

It is possible to have as many decimals as needed, it is just about implementation on new feature to the core code if the community will find that reasonable. So no technical problems with that.

In one of the forward-looking theories, some scholars asserted that Bitcoin should have a price equal to or greater than $100 million per Bitcoin if we want Bitcoin to replace the US dollar only.  What about the rest of the major currencies?

It is a bad idea to trust the scholars which have significant problems with math. Let's count: M2 for US (https://tradingeconomics.com/united-states/money-supply-m2) is around 21,415,200 USD million, total Bitcoin emission is 21 million. So to replace all dollars, BTC should cost just about 1 million USD. And M2 includes non cash assets as well, so in reality the needed rate is even lower.

Bitcoin was not designed to eliminate fiat money, and with its distinctive design, it has become the real world currency, and I do not see a real need to completely dispense with fiat.

Right, Bitcoin is made to be an alternative and we don't need it to replace all fiat currencies. But it can become the anchor currency not eliminating fiat money system, right?

And who ever thought bitcoin would in the first place? Also I don’t think there would be any acceptable world currency.
I think it may be an economical issue if the world has one currency as its only currency.
Bitcoin is more advantageous than other currencies and the list is large, but I would want to see a world where everyone is giving the choice at their own opinion be it’s Fiat or Bitcoin.
Yep, I also think so, we don't know how crazy the price of Bitcoin is when every country buys it in large quantities, this may be good for investors who buy Bitcoin at the lowest price, but it will be dangerous if the accumulation of bitcoins is concentrated on those who buy more Bitcoins, and if that happens people who have lots of Bitcoin will become controllers and might be able to influence a country's sovereignty.

I feel more that Bitcoin can be used as an alternative means of exchange between countries to avoid long and expensive processes like what banks do.

After I figured it out, I no longer expect Bitcoin to be recognized by the state, and it doesn't need to be. It is part of a special asset, not a currency.
So I don't think Bitcoin is going to become a fiat currency.
El Salvador has recognized bitcoin, that means your question has been refuted, they even set bitcoin as the official currency in their country.

I don't think so far, or indeed this needs to be questioned, because the essence of Bitcoin is outside the shadow of the government or rather the freedom that Bitcoin has will never be in a law that is regulated and bound by fiat currency. Unless a country like El Salvador has recognized and adopted bitcoin as a legal purchase, even this adoption will continue in various other countries for now, even if it does not standardize bitcoin as an official currency.

OP should know that bitcoin is a world currency, but not all countries in the world will adopt it as currency. I mean bitcoin can be transacted all over the world and not even limited to countries that have banned them. Governments can't stop the bitcoin network, they can only control the users. We all know that bitcoin is a decentralized currency so there is no specific authority that controls it.

At this point I think OP will understand that bitcoin is a world currency, without the need to be legally recognized and adopted because transactions will occur when both parties agree to use bitcoin as currency.

I feel more that Bitcoin can be used as an alternative means of exchange between countries to avoid long and expensive processes like what banks do.
Of course bitcoin is an alternative and may have become the main currency used by some people who have abandoned fiat, and realize it or not then bitcoin has been adopted by individual, group, companies, small and large businesses to a country.

Who said that we were expecting Bitcoin to be a world 'currency'?
Nobody here can say that Bitcoin is a currency, it is a speculative asset with variable value every moment but has a limited supply and nobody can change that.

You are right, we are all here for the profit bitcoin brings, so no one is expecting it to become a world currency, bitcoin should be a highly speculative asset. We already have the government-generated currency and we are fine with it, no problem with it so we don't need to add another currency instead we need an asset, an investment that can generate returns to help us live a better life.

El Savador give positive respond with Bitcoin after accepting as legal currency transaction payment, I think many countries will regulated about Bitcoin as legal currency transaction at the future. Slowly have several countries are in the waiting list want to adopt with Bitcoin as global currency transaction.

Not sure with exact date when Bitcoin become global countries payment currency, but with development of Bitcoin I don't see any difficult thing faced by Bitcoin how to be most popular currency transaction and will adopt by many countries later, although still less country distributing for Bitcoin become legal currency, just take time for later Bitcoin will be popular transaction payment.

It is unlikely that Bitcoin will become the world currency. While Bitcoin has gained significant popularity and adoption as a form of digital currency, it is not widely accepted as a means of exchange for goods and services and is not backed by any government or central authority. Additionally, the volatility of its value makes it an unreliable store of value. It is more likely that a different form of digital currency, or a combination of currencies, will become more widely accepted as a world currency in the future.

There are also those cases of countries which have completely banned bitcoin and crypto: Algeria, Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Iraq, Morocco, Nepal, Qatar and Tunisia.

Besides the full legalization (legal tender) of bitcoin by El Salvador, the ban is another way to recognize bitcoin by the state, although in a negative form, as it's recognized as a threat which has to be neutralized with maximum effort and surveillance.

At the same time, it does not stop people from using crypto still. I had read several users here still be able to use Bitcoin or any forms of crypto while their government banned it. People still have the access to VPNs still and people still need VPN regardless, so there is no way on just banning the use of VPN meanwhile providing a lot of people an access still to crypto exchanges.
It is either that their government regulates it through making it a legal tender and having a taxes imposed to it or just banning it entirely anyway.

Color printed paper?

That would be honestly easy to trade and respectable.  :)

Bitcoin is not the world currency because most government are always putting tough restrictions on the project inother to reduced it's trading volume and popularity. It's been legalize in most countries but also banned in most countries. In my opinion it's very important to know the whole project concerning bitcoins and how it operates. El Salvador have made bitcoins a legal tender in their country and payments are made through Bitcoin ecosystem. It ease stress and fasten the process of payments, making it more digital than the normal fiat currency.

Countries that have regulated or are seeking to accept adoption as legal tender are increasing, but very few countries dare to accept bitcoin as legal currency in their country, two different things that must be separated in my view, because of the possibility of adoption occurring as a means of payment not as the country's currency.

There are regulations that govern the country's currency, many things must be changed if the country wants to adopt this as El Salvador did, for me it is more appropriate to use bitcoin as a means of payment, because this is more likely to be done in the near future , if a certain country starts adopting it.

There are also those cases of countries which have completely banned bitcoin and crypto: Algeria, Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Iraq, Morocco, Nepal, Qatar and Tunisia.

The ban also doesn't stop the residents there from investing in bitcoin, right!!!
The next question is whether the country has succeeded in completely banning bitcoin and crypto in its country, if it is considered a threat in the context of the intended ban, whether it is a medium of exchange and a means of transaction or a total ban.

I think Bitcoin will still be used as a currency if you are in a place where you can't use fiat. So don't look at it as something to make money with. If you can't afford it, then don't worry. Work on fiat until you have enough money to buy the things you want. I'm lucky I wasn't born in Venezuela where you need bitcoins every day just to live.

Bitcoin in some countries is recognized as a currency, while some countries treat BTC as a commodity asset, and some other countries ban bitcoins in their territories. But none of the countries and users think that Bitcoin will become a fiat, because Bitcoin is not a fiat, and will never be a fiat.

True Bitcoin will never be a fiat currency because government won't reissue it as their fiat currency.  The government will not take responsibility on Bitcoin.  Government will only allow it as legal tender, mode of payment or an alternative to fiat currency.

It was never Bitcoin's creator intention anyway, but instead to give us the alternative. If by "becoming fiat currency" mean replacing fiat, Bitcoin has its use even without achieving that (which is imho unrealistic anyway) and majority of bitcoiners are fine with that.

Yes, you're right. It took me a long time to figure it out. I used to be confused. I still don't know enough about bitcoin.

I live in an African country whose government would like to utilize Bitcoin as a means for effecting international payments for imports.
Is there anyone I can work with to establish an afrocentric crypto exchange similar to Yellow Card?

To give up fiat money is to give up the world and some kind of reality. Bitcoin, in its current design, cannot answer many of the requirements that must be met in a global currency. A global currency without having partners in the market? This is almost impossible to happen. Bitcoin is as valuable as gold, and it must remain so in order to maintain its existence.

Several countries have legalize with Bitcoin without as payment currency transaction but have get space for Bitcoin become legal investment assets, we can trade and hold Bitcoin in exchange market without worry about exchange market access close or banned by government. I think all countries have their own local exchange market and have been allowed or get regulation from their government, can expected about Bitcoin get space just little time waiting for Bitcoin adopt as legal payment currency transaction.

Considering many countries have legal Bitcoin for investment assets but not for legalizing as legal tender, seems not any serious problem trough we can earn profit with Bitcoin or cryptocurrency trading and cash out with local exchange market become fiat.

Negative news that always appears for bitcoin does not stop its journey, even now the news is still developing in several media, but something good will find its way, where bitcoin is currently increasingly in demand, both as an investment and long-term asset storage

Quote

Governments regulate the economy by issuing money, which means they can control it. Bitcoin, on the other hand, cannot be controlled, which is why we like it, but also why governments don't like it.
The adoption of bitcoin has also begun to enter the stage as a means of payment for goods and services, although not all places have implemented this. Social inequality against the influence of fiat currency makes a source of recession and inflation, fiat currency continues to lose value in its application, so many people begin to switch to bitcoin at the stage of storing assets, on the other hand bitcoin also does not have a major impact on recession or inflation, this is the reason which made the government push for regulation, so that bitcoin could be regulated like fiat currency travel, but unfortunately they failed to limit this.

Quote

Admit it or not, bitcoin will not be affected in the process of its journey, if you want to know more, then take a look at the countries that are completely against crypto and bitcoin, but bitcoin's journey as a long-term asset storage and investment is still going well there, despite the ban it was enacted long before.

Bitcoin will be a fiat currency that will never be correlated, due to the basic concept of developing bitcoin as a digital currency that is decentralized and does not have access to any authority to control it. So this freedom is what drives bitcoin to grow and develop and attracts many people to get involved in it.

I am pretty sure that even if Bitcoin was not sort of "legalized" in your country, you can still do P2P transactions with it. You might not be able to access such sites or exchanges to buy or sell your Bitcoin, but surely you can still use VPN to bypass those restrictions.

I had recalled some users in here being able to still use Bitcoin and any forms of crypto in their country even if it was not legalized in their country.

It is the other way around, bitcoin is not going to become accepted worldwide because a few companies decide to adopt it, bitcoin needs to gain average users, and once enough people decide to adopt bitcoin then those big companies will decide to do it, as refusing to do so will simply cost them a lot of money, so we need to wonder how can bitcoin gain so many users? And I think the best scenario for bitcoin will be a massive economic crisis which puts the fiat system at risk and people begin to use bitcoin as a way to protect their wealth.

Bitcoin is better than banks and fiat even though they serve different purposes. The bank simply has too many self-interests in making money off of people and too many dysfunctions, such as failed transactions. Even though bitcoin has its own risks, such as numerous scams, the most important thing is for you to understand the fundamentals and that security comes first. so I don't if bitcoin will become world money.

besides, there's no need for bitcoin to become the world currency as long as we are enjoying the benefits of its existence. aiming for btc to be like "fiat" currency of most people for me is too much to ask from btc. but what we are enjoying right now, like borderless transactions, very cheap fees among others are the reasons why we are being grateful about this invention. so long we are benefitting from its existence would give us reason why we need this digital currency.

besides, there's no need for bitcoin to become the world currency as long as we are enjoying the benefits of its existence. aiming for btc to be like "fiat" currency of most people for me is too much to ask from btc. but what we are enjoying right now, like borderless transactions, very cheap fees among others are the reasons why we are being grateful about this invention. so long we are benefitting from its existence would give us reason why we need this digital currency.
No Bitcoin has to become a word currency indecencies that it will be more valuable and recognize or recommend by the world bank as fiat currency is been value able and recognize in different societies, secondly Bitcoin is not enjoyable when few people is into it's development or into its transaction.

So I don't think Bitcoin is going to become a fiat currency.
I thought this issue of bitcoin becoming to Fiat currency has been settled, why are you still bringing this out again. The creation not bitcoin was not to become Fiat currency but as as alternative coin or currency to the Fiat currency. Please understand the real meaning of bitcoin. Bitcoin is a digital currency for buying of assets on online. I think there is any country is going to use bitcoin has a the Fiat currency but I know that 99% of the Countries are going to use bitcoin.

Yeah, its way better than that inflationary shitcoin, isnt it?

I love this presentation. This now the Fiat currency is and how bitcoin is . Bitcoin is going to supercede Fiat currency in the very nearest future.

Being a world currency could keep things under restricted framework. Serving as an alternate to the fiat system give people the freedom of money and choose according to the need. Something that is volatile getting preferred as world currency would happen in a slow and steady way with the participation from countries one by one. Maybe the evolution can happen with the upcoming generation.

The key to whether Bitcoin can become a world currency does not lie in Bitcoin itself. Bitcoin relies on the underlying technology of the blockchain to operate automatically, and its characteristics of safety, reliability and decentralization are indeed unquestionable. But Bitcoin cannot be separated from society and politics. If more than 80% of the countries in the world ban Bitcoin in the future because of the increasing threat of Bitcoin to legal tender, then it will not become a world currency. This is the key factor. Now people use Bitcoin as an investment channel and tool, and the government also considers it in this way.

Bitcoin is even far from being the world currency and can't be since, first, it's such a coin that is capped at 21 million, there is no way such could go round the world. Secondly, no responsible government would want a decentralized coin to be their major currency, that's just the truth as this cannot help accountability in the economy due to the coverage that BTC could provide to its users who want such. Governments could only develop their own blockchain, and use it effectively instead of all using BTC. Lastly, many still believe that Satoshi has a backdoor code, which makes it difficult to 100% trust it.

So I don't think Bitcoin is going to become a fiat currency.

I don't think that anyone questioned that anywhere, or am I wrong?

The point of crypto as a whole is to be outside of the gov regulated bubble, not to become one.

I mean who the hell wants Bitcoins to be adapted as a FIAT? The whole purpose of Bitcoins are using it’s decentralised nature. Now if we deviate from the motive of the coin, then it won’t be anything new or different. Moreover 80% of Bitcoin holder, use Bitcoins as an asset, rather than using as a payment source. So yes as Bitcoins are limited in stock, they are very valuable. So we don’t want to spend Bitcoins whenever we want. Rather if possible try to save as many Bitcoins as possible and sell less.

You will still need countries to legalize Bitcoin and allow it to be used in your country. Because if your country prohibits it, then you won't be able to transact there, whether it's for trading or for service payments.

Yes, but still, as I said before, it can't help people when they have to deal with the laws. If the government in their country is forbid to use Bitcoin, then they are will be treated like a criminal. It's different if the government allows use of Bitcoin, although it doesn't have to make Bitcoin the main currency.

I don't think Bitcoin needs to get the position against fiat currency. If we get the expected advantages from Bitcoin then there is no disagreement about replacing it with fiat currencies. Today, except few countries, almost every government in the world is opposed to Bitcoin. They also pointed out some reasons for this. Among them, the government opposes Bitcoin on the grounds that Bitcoin is used for illegal purposes, it is decentralized and therefore beyond the control of the government, and the risk of being highly volatility. Despite ignoring everything, Bitcoin is advancing day by day in the world. Despite the various obstacles of the government, the common people are still in favor of it. People are getting various benefits through Bitcoin. I just consider that bitcoin is the medium of exchange and the alternative of fiat currency.

Due to its instability, I don't think that will occur. We do not yet know what would happen to global financial stability if cryptocurrencies were to replace fiat money.

Too many people are acting as if this is such a big step for bitcoin but in reality it doesn't need to be. We are aware that we could go as high a 68k so far, that means 100k is not that far away.

Let's assume for a moment that we reached to 100k and stable there and just not move too much, bottom 90 and top 120k and stay there for many many years. Would that be too bad? Does it have to be world wide? Does it have to be used everywhere? Or is it enough to know that some people use it and that's it.

I personally would be fine with that level and that should be good for everyone for sure, it shouldn't be required to have anything bigger than that for bitcoin to be doing good.

Bitcoin is already seeing usage in some established online selling platforms and a couple micro businesses worldwide, so the idea of bitcoin becoming a world-currency, in its totality is actually true and is slowly happening as we speak. Furthermore, to compare bitcoin, a currency that hasn't even been in the market for more than 20 years, to a monetary system built upon thousands of years of commerce and economy, is a little unfair to the former right? I don't mean to sound like a visionary but I think we should give bitcoin credit where it is due. Altogether, bitcoin's price, stability, and everything else wouldn't mean when you compare it to established currency of the outside market, but intrinsically it has the potential to help in more ways than one.

Bitcoin may never become a world currency, but at least its usage is increasing by the day thanks to merchants and businesses opening their arms to it. We could say Bitcoin is the "Currency of the Internet" as many people can use it across borders without limitations or restrictions whatsoever. The pioneer cryptocurrency will become a viable alternative to Fiat for those who need it the most (mainly for privacy and financial freedom).

I'd say a lot has been achieved within just 14 years of Bitcoin's inception. Now with the Lightning Network, I think Bitcoin is ready to be used at a larger scale worldwide. This means more people will join the revolution in the following years. You can bet market prices will rise after this happens. Who knows what the future holds for the cryptocurrency? Just my thoughts ;D

Nobody knows how bitcoin will be applied even in 5-10 years. Since its inception, bitcoin function has changed. It was conceived as a means of payment, and by now it has become a store of value, a digital asset and a tool for speculation. In part, of course, it is used as a means of payment. Moreover, the number of places where you can pay with btc is even growing, but still, it is still quite far from becoming a world currency. This is if we talk about the mass character of bitcoin. But on the other hand, with the help of btc you can pay in any country (of course, with restrictions), thanks to which we can say that bitcoin has nevertheless become a world currency. That is, a currency that is known and recognized all over the world (also with some reservations). For example, without official adoption by states.

Not really. The function of bitcoin is to give you freedom, and if you are free to do whatever you want with it, in that case it has worked well enough. I know not many people trust the current system of fiat, and the governments and that's the point of bitcoin. Think about it this way there could be some changes on blockchain, like how it is gone from just legacy now to segwit and maybe in the future lightning network and such, but the reality is that how we use it in the function is staying the same.

I personally expect it to grow more, there will be more people and more money coming in, so even if it's not world currency, it will be acceptable in every part of the world.

After I figured it out, I no longer expect Bitcoin to be recognized by the state, and it doesn't need to be. It is part of a special asset, not a currency.
So I don't think Bitcoin is going to become a fiat currency.
Even from its inception until now bitcoin has never been considered a fiat currency, bitcoin is a digital currency that uses peer-to-peer technology to operate, bitcoin is considered a new model of investment freedom because no one can control it including any authority. Unrecognized by the state, bitcoin has come a long way today and does not need any kind of recognition.

Bitcoin is growing at this time, because people have seen the strength in maintaining investment value, so it is considered a promising investment and is able to maintain asset value in the future.

Not only is Bitcoin highly volatile, but bitcoin is not controlled by the government so the possibility of it becoming the world currency is unlikely. The government will never accept something out of control. If we are the government and there is something that threatens our power, we will also seek to destroy it rather than accept it.

At some point, I don't want for bitcoin to be legalized. That moment when people knew here in our country that cryptocurrency exist gives me a bad feeling, our government is not a good government that is open for any solution that their citizens might have the opportunity to earn more they just only want to corrupt more, I remember they are trying to threaten people because of earning online, they even make a public announcement that made many people to lose interest so fast.

It isn't totally impossible, we already have some views about it and the acceptance is growing, yet slowly but continuously.
Like if we say only 10 establishments are accepting this as a form of payment, maybe 10 years from now it can be doubled it's number or even more. We can't expect such huge and fast development and Bitcoin acceptance due to its risk and volatile nature but I believe this will be embraced by most if inflation is at its worst.

In terms of people's use of cryptocurrencies, bitcoin has almost become a global currency. But it will not be used as the state's world currency. For them, this is simply unacceptable. They fully embrace blockchain technology and create their own CBDCs based on it, which will replace their need for digital money. Therefore, a decentralized cryptocurrency is the currency of people and for people, but not for settlements between states.

Bitcoin is not regulated so the government will not use this as their coin or main currency because in the law there's a regulation that they have their own currency and we know the bitcoin is decentralized, but today some of the company, organizations and etc. adopting the use of the cryptocurrency because they see the potential of this fast mode of payment and major of it its the transparency because of the blockchain network to make sure its has a transaction and visible to the public that there's no under the table or manipulation transactions.

I think the opposite, we are advancing in a world where everything is possible, the AI that we can find as CHATGPT has already come out and it has given a lot to talk about and if this is the case, there is not much time left for some to decide that the best thing to do is leaving many institutions in the hands of an AI that is fairer and more impartial, which would leave opr out of some politicians and this means that when everything about bitcoin is evaluated it will be much better than fiat money because there is no type of inflation or thing that can affect the economy of a country or several countries.

The economy of the United States is the one that I have always admired, but they are in trouble and I think that by the year 2024 they will be able to have more hope that inflation levels will recover, so bitcoin will continue to advance.

If you think Bitcoin is not going to be the world currency then you need to understand that Bitcoin still controls the market and there is nothing we can do about that. Bitcoin is the first currency and is still going to continue determining how the crypto market moves which will be a big challenge for other coins. There is nothing we can do about this so just get prepared for massive adoption of Bitcoin soon.

The market of bitcoin isn't tied to the traditional system, so the market moves were happening independently. For this reason we'll see better days even before the recovery of USA from inflation.

So I don't think Bitcoin is going to become a fiat currency.

Bitcoin already is, since a long time ago, a currency that can be used worldwide to pay for goods and services.

This has been true since May 2010 when laszlo paid 10k BTC for 2 large pizzas: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=137.msg1195#msg1195

You can't pay for goods and services with your local fiat currency directly to another person in another country, it's basically worthless paper until you exchange it for their local fiat currency.

But Bitcoin is accepted worldwide, without the need to exchange it into some local currency. It's a global currency since its creation because it lives on the Internet, which is global by nature.

Bitcoin doesn't need the approval of central banks or governments because it doesn't rely on them at all. That's by design, and that's a great thing.

bitcoin could be the world's currency, but maybe not.

bitcoin is now increasingly popular and some have adopted it as in the country of el Salvador, it is possible that other countries will also be interested and adopt bitcoin together and eventually become a world currency.

however, bitcoin is something that cannot be controlled and this could be a strong reason why bitcoin cannot be a fiat currency, also feared by governments. so the reason bitcoin won't become a world currency in my opinion is very strong because, fiat currency is always the most important.

but, in my opinion, both are equally important. For example, as a store of value, a medium of exchange, and a unit of account.

If you say that bitcoin would not become the world currency I have no doubt but believe me you bitcoin is the world first presumed  digital currency.  As we know currency is a generally acceptable means of exchange for goods and services which we all know that bitcoin is on the verge of being accepted or adopted as a means of payment in various countries. Bitcoin is more or less a store of value which is equitable to fiat depending on the volume of your purchase power. I know it would be difficult for many nation's to agreeing in adopting bitcoin as a means of payment but gradually, they would see the importance and benefits bitcoin holds and I believe they would adopt it but that does not mean that they would abandon their own native currency as that is their local means of legal tender.

Bitcoin will be recognized by the state and it is already happening.  It needs to be so that Bitcoin adoption won't be disrupted.  Bitcoin has created a currency and you can verify that by looking at the whitepaper abstract.  It isn't made to be a special asset.  And true Bitcoin won't be a fiat currency, it will always be an alternative to currency and the government will not take responsibility for issuing Bitcoin as government-released currency because it is actually not.

Therefore, a decentralized cryptocurrency is the currency of people and for people, but not for settlements between states.

It is challenging to say with certainty whether or not Bitcoin will replace all other currencies. A few justifications have been offered for why Bitcoin might someday replace fiat money worldwide:. Bitcoin is a "decentralized" cryptocurrency, which means that it is not governed by any one organization, be it a government or a bank. Due to the fact that it is not centralized and subject to the same political influences as conventional fiat currencies, it may be attractive as a global currency. A maximum of 21 million coins can ever be created, limiting the total supply of Bitcoin. Due to the limited supply, which might increase demand and result in a potential value increase over time, it might become more alluring as a store of value. Network effects: With a sizable user base, significant infrastructure, and backing, the Bitcoin network is the largest and most established among cryptocurrencies. As a result, it might have an edge over other cryptocurrencies in terms of adoption and use as a reserve currency. I don't think Bitcoin will ever replace other currencies, they will live next to each other, just like cash and cards are living next to each other.

Same as how in El Salvador Bitcoin and USD live one next to each other as legal tender, etc.

bitcoin could be the world's currency, but maybe not.
In my opinion, Bitcoin has great potential to become a world currency, but it's just that many countries still don't legalize Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, from this reason it becomes a bit of a serious problem in adjusting Bitcoin to become a world currency, but I see that many countries have accepted Bitcoin, there are also countries that must first exchange it for local money and there are also several countries that do not need to exchange it for local money.

bitcoin is now increasingly popular and some have adopted it as in the country of el Salvador, it is possible that other countries will also be interested and adopt bitcoin together and eventually become a world currency.
You are right, Recently many countries have adopted Bitcoin, the level of popularity of Bitcoin is increasing day by day which of course will have great potential for several other countries that have not yet adopted Bitcoin, maybe they will do it, maybe even in the future. later many countries will legalize Bitcoin, and this is also our hope.
Basically Bitcoin is the world's first considered digital currency.

but, in my opinion, both are equally important. For example, as a store of value, a medium of exchange, and a unit of account.
Yes of course, and one of the most Valuable Storage Assets is Bitcoin, I think this can't be doubted anymore.

So I don't think Bitcoin is going to become a fiat currency.
It's not necessary and it's not the main purpose of Bitcoin. There is a huge difference between fiat currency and Bitcoin. The purpose of creating Bitcoin is not to become an official currency from what I understand. Maybe you can find out for yourself what Satoshi Nakamoto's motives and goals were in creating Bitcoin.

If a country wants to make Bitcoin an official currency it's up to them. And vice versa.
The Bitcoin operating system is not centralized. That's what needs to be remembered.

El Salvador recognizes it as legal tender, meaning using it as an official currency since they do not have their own currency, they are using USD and accepting bitcoin as part of their economic recovery plan. For countries with strong local currencies, like the US or China, they have no reason to give up their currency for something they can't control. There is no way for bitcoin to become the world currency.

Bitcoin is already the world highest currency, because the world without a bitcoin is just like world without music, bitcoin brings smiles and love to the world, I remembered last year when I was still in canada, and I was having fun with my brothers that came over for vacation, and we went partying, and the police stop us on the high way on our way going home, if not of bitcoin, I don't know how I would payed off the police bills, because I was having no cash at hand, is there anything you still could tell me that bitcoin is not the world greatest currency when even the police accept bitcoin now

That's certainly true, mate. By design, Bitcoin is already a global cryptocurrency. That's thanks to its use of the Internet to reach the masses worldwide. But even though Bitcoin can be used by anyone, anywhere in the world, it's still not officially recognized as legal tender by mainstream countries. So technically, Bitcoin is not a world currency even though it can be used anywhere in the world through the Internet.

Don't count on governments abandoning Fiat in favor of Bitcoin anytime soon, especially when they don't want people to experience true financial freedom. Surrendering Fiat, would mean surrendering control over the mainstream economy. And that will never happen. I'm fine with Bitcoin just the way it is, as long as it remains a viable contender against Fiat. Decentralization and censorship-resistance must be preserved for Bitcoin to stand the test of time. Who knows if it will be with us for generations? Just my opinion :)

Bitcoin will not become the world currency, it will coexist with other currencies. Bitcoin is unstable, its price fluctuates at any time, and its characteristics will not become a unified currency, and each country will use its own currency.

Out of the 116 fiat currencies tracked by Fiat Market Cap, Bitcoin already has a larger market cap than most of them.

At today's price, Bitcoin is sitting at 28/116 which puts it in the top 25% of all currencies. https://fiatmarketcap.com/

Bitcoin in might not be "The World Currency" today but it is already larger than most of them (by market cap) and used in more countries than most of them.

Let's see what happens over the next decade.

Did you realize that the majority of countries that accept bitcoin as legal tender are usually poor countries with very high default rates? that means they are betting with bitcoins, not they treat bitcoins as real currency. Another thing is that the president of El Salvador is investing in bitcoin, they are one of the sharks in the market, I don't see them focusing on making bitcoin into currency, they are still investing and looking to make a profit from it. It is difficult to think of a way for bitcoin to become a currency.

Almost Bitcoin is spread all over world. It's trend will rise day by day and some country allow Bitcoin for online shopping just like a debit card. But on other hand, cryptocurrency ban in some country and it is restricted to use cryptocurrency.

I think it's a good point that Bitcoin is already being held all around the world, so it's already pretty much ready to become universally accepted.

I mean, companies like Strike already assume this, they want to create a service that exchanges fiat1 with fiat2 by sending the bitcoin equivalent from fiatland1 to fiatland2. Since they can easily buy and sell Bitcoin in both countries, they can provide this service.

I personally don't see the point of saving in fiat instead of Bitcoin though.

The primary goal of Bitcoin is to serve as an alternative for local fiat currency. It hasn't come to compete with it. So whether or not bitcoin becomes a fiat currency is not its intended goal. It is only here to provide a decentralized money system, not to impose the kinds of regulations that governments impose on local currencies.

People should realize it because even it would be soaring up its value or been known but it wont completely replaced up Fiats existence which it cant really be that possible and this is why people should realize so that

they wont really that get frustrated nor disappointed on what they are really that believing or something that they had in mind.Bitcoin might fly with colors but not coming in to a point that
it would really become the world currency.its better not to make yourself that too optimistic so that you wouldnt really get frustrated on things which cant possibly happen.

Deal with it just some sort of investment and alternative currency which supposedly this was its main reason for its existence.

Very nice observation. I believe Bitcoin has the biggest market cap because of its ability to be used across borders without restrictions or limitations whatsoever. It lives on the Internet, after all. Even if governments disapprove of Bitcoin, that won't stop it from reaching a wider audience in the future. If there's Internet access, it'll be possible to use BTC as an alternative to existing Fiat currencies.

For a new kind of money that's been with us only 14 years, I'd say this is impressive. Imagine how big Bitcoin will become a decade from now. If people continue to adopt it as their own, it shouldn't be long enough before Fiat loses traction for good. Who knows if we're closer to "hyperbitcoinization" than we've previously thought? Just my thoughts ;D

Bitcoin is a currency whether you accept it or not and it was never supposed to become the "world currency" it is supposed to be a global currency which it is.

You are right. I believe this is where the problem still lies when people believe that it is only when the government accepts that Bitcoin is a currency that we will understand this. Not all local currencies around the world are globally accepted at the other end of the world and do that not make them currency where they are accepted?
Likewise, Bitcoin as we must agree is been accepted around the world by those that have already understood this and will not necessarily need that Government acceptance, or are they still saying it is not a currency in El Salvador?

Well it depends on the dimension you are going to. If you are talking about fiat, them I have no issues with that but when you talk about digital currency, then I will boldly tell that bitcoin has already become the world digital currency because it was the first and tagged digital gold which quantify and qualify it's value. So therefore the fact that bitcoin has already taken its existence and position in the world is enough fact for it to be tagged world digital currency as no other digital currency could surpass it's value usability.

Bitcoin does not have to be a currency that every country should use like fiat currencies, but we all hope that every country can relieve bitcoin so that we are all safe to use bitcoin, to make the currency I think bitcoin is very difficult to control by the government hence the big consideration nowadays is always part of the positive and negative news, We as Bitcoin users only hope that the value of bitcoin continues to increase because bitcoin will be our great asset for the future, currently there are some people who want to drop bitcoin to its roots but it will be difficult to do.

Moreover, governments are very much happy with fiat system that is implemented for centruies and the biggest reason is that they have 100% control on that system.

The emergence of Bitcoin is a good asset to store, not to become a world currency.
Bitcoin is used as a digital gold investment, as an asset both stored and invested, the purpose and role of Bitcoin is not to replace/become a world currency, it needs to be underlined here that Bitcoin is a digital currency that runs in a decentralized manner, and this Bitcoin cannot be regulated. no one can control the price of Bitcoin, the extent of the spread of Bitcoin no one can measure it.

But what I think about the nature of Bitcoin is that it has advantages that are not found in other currencies, we think there is nothing wrong with Bitcoin being a world currency. But this is just my view of Bitcoin, but we have to return to the concept and purpose of Bitcoin. Let me say a little bit about the motivation that I really admire from Bitcoin because it has become one of the Universal Commodities whose price will continue to soar.

Most of those African countries can't decipher their right from their left, I only hope they know what they are doing and the risk involved. If it were to be an advanced country, I would have been so happy, but I don't get so excited reading such from an African country pushing for Bitcoin or adopting the same as a legal tender, this is because they might only use it for their selfish and political gain.

Their political leaders know how they could use the coin to launder money and aid corruption, that's my concern.

But unfortunately, that will never happen. Dreaming of bitcoin being mass-accepted by governments as a world currency is indeed an impossible task. Currently, only 2 countries accept bitcoin as legal tender and both are struggling due to weak economies and mounting debt. They're betting their economy on bitcoin because they don't have a better solution either. But for countries with strong economies, there is no reason to get rid of their own currency and adopt a decentralized currency. Especially the US, whose USD is considered the world's standard currency, will never let this happen.

Although Bitcoin is decentralized and can effectively alleviate inflation, it will not become a world currency. Some countries now recognize its legalization, but Bitcoin is a volatile and unstable asset, and it is difficult to be accepted as a currency by all countries. Many governments are reluctant to accept Bitcoin because they cannot control it.

Exactly. We can't expect all of the world's governments to welcome Bitcoin with open arms, especially when it's decentralized. There should be further opposition against the cryptocurrency down the road, since governments don't want to lose power/control over their citizens. What matters is that Bitcoin stays decentralized so that it could stand the test of time. All you'd need is an Internet connection to access the Bitcoin blockchain anytime, anywhere in the world.

Popularity for the cryptocurrency is increasing at a very fast pace, so it should only be a matter of time before Fiat loses traction in the mainstream world. Who knows if we get lucky by holding Bitcoin long term? Just my thoughts ;D

I can definitely see Bitcoin as the base of most international payments.

It doesn't really matter too much if the price of Bitcoin is volatile if you're converting Fiat1 to Bitcoin then sending it through the Bitcoin network and then converting Bitcoin to Fiat2, as it would be pretty much at the same price given the minutes of difference.

After that is done, then I can see that people will just want to skip the unnecessary fiat step.

who are you, are you from the future?

there no reason not to accept bitcoin as the world currency in the future!

the world continues to develop and cannot be stopped, development for the sake of developing cryptocurrency also continues, bitcoin currently has the Lighting Network option and adoption has been carried out by several agencies (whether government or privately owned in countries that are friendly to bitcoin) it will be transmitted to the country other.

so far there are dozens of FUDs that attack bitcoin every day but none of them make the price of bitcoin drop drastically or even crash, this proves that bitcoin is highly trusted by many people and the currency that is trusted is one that is very suitable to be a world currency.

The interesting thing is, Bitcoin doesn't need government approval to become the world currency. With the level of popularity and awareness Bitcoin has attained in recent years, It might not necessarily become the world currency, but it can become the most preferred means of payment which the world is gradually coming to. It will come to a point the world will lose hope in government policies because of it failures and irregularities and Bitcoin will become the next channel of concern and this done without government approvals or concern.

Absolutely true.

Right now Strike for example is using Bitcoin to transfer money around the world, it's already working in El Salvador, Argentina, and USA.

It's basically being used as the world currency (for those 3 countries so far, but more coming in the future).

It's just common sense, the underlying network for money transfer will be Bitcoin, then they will skip fiat altogether.

That's your personal opinion anyway and by the way, no one was expecting BTC to replace money as a the world currency.
BTC can not be goat currency,. Will gold ever become world currency? Obvious answer is no! So, expecting BTC to be world currency is nothing but a mirage.
BTC is a digital asset.

Slowly but surely, countries are adopting Bitcoin as an alternative to Fiat. Banks have shown us they've failed in helping restore the economy back to its original state. They've kept printing more money, effectively debasing mainstream Fiat currencies. Since Bitcoin is deflationary and cannot be controlled by banks, it could prove to be a solution to all of the world's problems. The more people lose trust in banks, the better for Bitcoin.

I'd say Bitcoin is more than just a "worldwide currency". It's freedom that empowers you to take control of your own life without the need to worry about oppressive governments and central banks. The revolution is just getting started, so who knows if early adopters like us will get lucky someday? Just my thoughts ;D

That's right.

And I think there's lots of people that just simply see Bitcoin as a price ticker, just like a company. This is lacking a massive understanding of what Bitcoin can do for you.

Many of those people are happy with the banks, and they will continue to live their lives with fiat as the largest part of their life.

With Bitcoin you can actually separate money with state. That's unique, and powerful. That's why most central banks are against Bitcoin.

But things are turning, from 2025 central banks will be able to have up to 2% of their reserves in Bitcoin, allowed by BIS (basically the Central Bank of Central Banks)

It would just become alternative no matter how it would progress out and it wasnt been created in the first place on replacing fiat but rather to become an alternative which it isnt a surprise.
Its true that its not bad on being optimistic but you shouldnt really make yourself that too hopeful on things which arent that possible to happen.Of course it wouldnt become as a main currency but doesnt mean
that it would be having no use but rather it would become just alternative. The thing on here is that you arent really just making use of it to have transactions but also you do have the chance and potential
on earning profits while you are still holding it and that what makes it really that very interesting which i couldnt blamed out the entire community on what are their main motives on dealing with this.

It is true that bitcoin does not require approval from the government, even now there are countries that accept bitcoin payments, but to make bitcoin a world currency is impossible, because bitcoin cannot be accepted in general, has no stability and no country has provided guarantees legitimacy of bitcoin, because to be accepted as a world currency must meet the requirements,
1, Acceptability means that the money can be accepted in general,
2, Durability, has resistance and is not easily damaged,
3, Stability of value, meaning that money has a stable value for a long time, etc.

True. It's hard to understand how can government accept and adopt Bitcoin when it was made for people to be used without the government involved in it.

If some tool is made for some exact purpose it doesn't mean that it can't be used in some another case. Yes, bitcoin is made as an alternative to a classical fiat financial system, but if governments will adopt new era economy they can easily use bitcoin as well. During history things change all the time and just 35 years ago there was no Internet and some could ask how government will allow it if it has less ways of controlling info in it. And you can see what happened. And we'll see what would be with bitcoin also. ;)

I guess that we can already consider that Bitcoin is in fact a World currency. Bitcoin can be used pretty much anywhere. Anyone can use it, and there is no dependency on banks or other third parties. One can travel around the world just using Bitcoin, so it means that this is in fact a currency that goes far beyond any other fiat currency.

Now, you can say that legally, Bitcoin will never become an accepted and regulated international currency, but the fact is that Bitcoin is an alternative to the fiat system and as an alternative it already made its way to be accepted as a World currency anyway.

Bitcoin should not be the world currency anyway. But we must ensure that its use is as widespread as fiat currency. I don't remember any fiat money that could be sent from one end of the world to the other in a short time at no cost. Fiat money is riskier than bitcoin for me. It scares me that fiat money is inflationary and the value of money is being turned into a shithole by central banks. I hold Bitcoin because i know that in the future, it will be enough to buy everything.

If it is widespread worldwide and used everywhere how can not it be a world currency? If we talk about some "official" world currency then there's none at all: some decided to use USD or EUR and issuers of those currencies were not against it. And that's all. Bitcoin is also not against and due to its decentralized nature can not be against. So anyone can use it as a world currency if wants. It will be as of an actual state of affairs, without special regulatory acts signed by everyone.

There are some legal and financial aspects to something being labelled a currency.

For example, in El Salvador since Bitcoin is legal tender, then every time you pay with Bitcoin you don't have to consider any capital gains or losses you made.

In the US and other countries since Bitcoin is not legal tender, and instead it is treated as an asset, every time you buy something with Bitcoin you need to consider capital gains or losses you made.

It doesn't matter if Bitcoin is used or not all around the world, these laws are local and apply to every specific country. In a similar way to how owning real estate is different in different countries for example, there are different rules that apply in each country.

Bitcoin has brought about the disruption of the actual financial system which concentrates the power in hands of a few institutions and corporations.
I see this as the greatest revolution in the world and of course will have to fight many battles against the current system before becoming the new financial system free from manipulation of unfair interests, but do I think that bitcoin will become the world currency? Nope. Not at all.

Right you are, you should always keep in mind which laws are actual in a place you stay at the moment, but it is important not for bitcoin only. And even if you need to mention your bitcoins on a tax return you can still use them, just keeping in mind how then you should draw it up.

Maybe formally it will not be a "currency" but in fact sometimes we can use it so without formal correspondence.

It will not because government would not allow that to happen. The reason there's a govern is to govern us people, and since they are implementing a centralized system to make their job easy, I don't think a decentralized currency will ever replace what we are used too already.

They will not allow that to happen, before bitcoin was less regulated but not it's already very much regulated, reason we cannot anymore enjoy the "Anonymity" that we are enjoying in the early stage.

There is so much limitations in Bitcoin if we accept it as a payment. First of all Bitcoin transaction is not possible without internet. Now suppose if I internet connection down in any area then it will lead failure entire payment system. More than 80% of the World don't know how to use and they had not made any single transaction yet. Supply and price is not in control of any Government which is compulsory to become a world currency.
There is no need for Btc to be accepted as a world currency.
Satoshi nakamota did not mention anywhere that he want BTC to be a world currency. I think no one will be thinking about it. BTC has own idea and own utility which make it best asset from any other asset in the world. In less than fifteen years it's break so many records and now congress is talking about BTC in white house.

Bitcoin have every feature required to be a World Currency, but every country won't take the similar stand. For now few countries have shown green flag and one have made it legal tender within the country. These are part of development. Bitcoin will serve as the alternate to fiat, because it is really tough task to eliminate the entire usage of fiat and implement crypto.

It's simply a matter of people to start accepting Bitcoin for goods and services, and then people starting to use Bitcoin to pay for those goods and services.

Simple as that.

If people keep simply buying and selling fiat for Bitcoin, then the demand for fiat will be the same, and the demand for Bitcoin won't increase.

If you think about it, bitcoin has already achieved this status by being used and recognized world over as a world currency with a few hurdles of making it legal tender.

By the way, what i think bitcoin will not do is replace fiat as it misses few key components like chargebacks and the alike, and also negative news that keeps piling up like exchanges hacks doesn't give confidence into the crypto systems for it to be adopted . Whatever the case, crypto will run as a complimentary product to fiat and not a substitute.

Do you know why El Salvador accepts bitcoin? When they accept bitcoin, they don't have their own currency, they are having economic difficulties and the possibility of default. No one wants to help them, it can be said that they are very stuck, and bitcoin is seen as the last buoy they can use. But luck was with them when bitcoin helped them improve their economy without depending on the help of other countries.

But in great powers, they have a strong economy, their currency has value. There is no reason they accept bitcoin to break their main currency. Bitcoin becoming the world currency is really unlikely, I also believe it can't happen.

El Salvador has been using USD as their currency since 2001. They use Bitcoin alongside USD since September 2021.

They just paid their $800M debt in full, with interest. There's no risk of default. It's all just FUD against El Salvador because they started using Bitcoin as legal tender.

The Bitcoin network has a lot of flaws at the technological level that prevent its widespread use as a means of payment.

Bitcoin could be on banks' balance sheets just like Gold, but it will never become a "global" currency because of its decentralized and censorship-resistant nature. Governments simply won't allow this to happen. Of course, people can still use Bitcoin worldwide through the Internet. But it won't be recognized officially by mainstream governments as the world currency because of the reasons mentioned before. Fiat currencies are on the brink of collapse, so it should only be a matter of time before adoption for BTC goes all the way to the moon.

As long as the community keeps Bitcoin decentralized, we should have nothing to worry about. Who knows if BTC lives for generations? Just my thoughts ;D

Yeah, bitcoin does have the features to be a worldwide used currency but sadly, it doesn’t look likely as the government of most countries are not really bitcoin friendly. Some are going further to actually curb its use.
I think fiat would always be with us or would stay with us for decades to come. There isn’t any major threat to the dominance of the fiat system as I don’t actually see bitcoin being an immediate threat to the dominance of the fiat system.
Bitcoin is a good if not the best alternative to the widely used fiat currency

In a sane society, who are the government?, it is the people, the people of the society make up the government, the people are the ones who choose those we supposedly call the government, so ordinarily, the supposed government aren't supposed to be more powerful than the people that put them there, but the problem now is that we live in a world controlled by money, because this set of people we ourselves choose to serve u now are in control of our money, we automatically lose our authority over them, this is why they now have the power to choose for us what should we call money and what we should not..

Aside the above, money is what a group of people have chosen and attached a value to, not particularly the government, from the price of bitcoin today, it is evident that the people have chosen and attached good value to bitcoin, if we lived in a sane society, the debate whether bitcoin should be accepted as a money or not shouldn't even come up because from all indications, it is money already.

First, you are right that the government can never control bitcoin because of its volatility and the blockchain technology it has, second, bitcoin is a currency like a fiat it's just not physically tangible, and that's why it's called a peer-to-peer.

Just think if it wasn't money, I hope it wasn't converted to fiat currency either, you get what I mean. If you look at it from another angle, it's like a credit card that can be used as an electronic payment, Bitcoin is the same, the only difference is that you can exchange it for different fiat currencies globally.

the first, of course, we have to admit, that bitcoin has changed the current situation and that is real, but will it be able to become a world currency? of course there are many obstacles that must be resolved first so that they can indeed become a determinant later.
the obvious obstacle is recognition from the state, not all recognize and can accept bitcoin and this takes time and cannot be easily resolved quickly.
It must also be remembered that banking is still very much needed because it accommodates manual transactions, and traditional transactions are still very much felt and indeed cannot be avoided and will bitcoin be able to do that later?

I guess you’re right. We shouldn’t be in much of a hurry to get bitcoin worldwide recognition and adoption cause bitcoin is well on its way to doing just that despite the loads of criticism and negativity from financial institutions and governments. Bitcoin has surely grown in popularity and usage and is very certain to become greater than it already is.
After all, good things they say, takes time.

In my opinion, Bitcoin has a great chance of becoming the world's reserve currency.  It is no coincidence that Bitcoin is called "digital gold".

I believe that in the future, the Central Banks of all countries will have Bitcoin in their gold and foreign exchange reserves.  Also, the first cryptocurrency will be an integral part of the reserves of large pension funds, public and private corporations, as well as very rich and influential oligarchs - individuals.

As for the use of Bitcoin as a means of payment, then the prospects are less optimistic.

In my opinion, it is the fact that Bitcoin is a decentralized asset and a globally recognized asset that will prompt the Basel Committee to decide to include it in gold - the central banks' foreign exchange reserves.

Initially, Satoshi Nakamoto designed Bitcoin as money to be used in an environment where individuals do not trust each other.  In a situation of collapse of the world global financial system, there will be no trust not only between individuals, but also between individual countries.

Bitcoin in this situation is an ideal reserve asset.  Its blockchain is transparent to track individual transactions and is protected from political censorship due to its decentralized nature.

Everyone has their one opinion on bitcoin, if you say BTC will not be the world currency in the world then no will argue with you because that is how you see or your point of view. Bitcoin did not come to remove Fiat currency but bitcoin is here to strengthen the Fiat currencies in the world if only they understand the coin adopt it.

Yes, that's right, here everyone's opinions and views about Bitcoin are of course different, therefore someone has the right to discuss what he thinks, one of which is the discussion of Bitcoin being a world currency/this topic, and I think it's here who will read it and understand Op's statement will definitely discuss and not argue, and maybe they discuss with each other's opinions.

Bitcoin did not come to remove Fiat currency but bitcoin is here to strengthen the Fiat currencies in the world if only they understand the coin adopt it.

Going back to the original purpose of Bitcoin, it came only to form a digital currency and it is decentralized, meaning that Bitcoin will not overthrow FIAT money and I think Bitcoin will continue to coexist with FIAT currency and strengthen FIAT money, moreover the Bitcoin payment system is peer-to-peer to-peer is decentralized and makes it easier for users to carry out fund operations/transfer funds quickly without intermediaries, in contrast to the work systems of centralized banks and financial institutions.

So I don't think Bitcoin is going to become a fiat currency.

It was never part of the vision of Satoshi for bitcoin to be designated as a fiat currency cause if it were so then there wouldn't have been any need for the decentralization of bitcoin. Fiat currency is full of shit regulations that are only in the interest of the central authority and should bitcoin be made as a fiat currency then PoW is worthless and needless.

But there are lot of people exaggerate about bitcoin as the place of fiat currency, in reality it will never take the place of fiat currency. In my perspective World Currency means that the currency which will be the same for all over the world as like as the dollar is considered. Event though it will not take the place of the dollar, this bitcoin will be acceptable as a medium of exchange all over the world.

However, many of us today not only think of Bitcoin as a digital currency, but they think of it as a big asset of their life. People who dream about Bitcoin think as a digital gold.

It depends on what are we talking about: if about replacing all existing currencies and becoming the only one currency in the world then it has no sense. Bitcoin's idea is to be an alternative, free, decentralized and anonymous. It is impossible to imagine it will be any how mandatory.

When we talk about world currency I mean first being widely accepted for payment, so widely that mostly in every small shop around you would have such an option; and second to be considered as an anchor currency not less popular than some like euro or USD.

Bitcoin's nature gives an opportunity to use it as you want whenever you want. But there are not many places where payments in bitcoin are accepted at the moment. Right, it will hardly be totally accepted everywhere in the nearest future, but it can be accepted in majority of countries.

I don't expect bitcoin to be the world currency because the governments of the world cannot unanimously agree to adopt bitcoin. Government only cherish what they created and will be able to control.

Even if bitcoin cannot become the world currency, it will become currency of the technology and automation. Automation would need transaction that won't require humans interference.

Bitcoin is decentralized and the government will never support decentralized crypto because t against their way of governing practice.
Consensus mechanism is a system used by Bitcoin to validate transaction authenticity and maintain the security of the basic blockchain. Meanwhile, it is also censorship resistance there is no way 60% of the government in the world will support such crypto that will literally cripple them.

Did government created Internet? How strict can it control it? And anyway it had to adjust to it. Because when some circumstances force them to act they do so. And when we see that the most reactionary government already ban bitcoin it means they consider it big enough to be forced to decide what to do with it. They don't want but there's no other choice. Bitcoin becomes global not thanks but in spite of governments.

it is unlikely that Bitcoin will become the world currency. While Bitcoin has been successful as a decentralized digital asset and store of value, it has several challenges that would need to be overcome in order for it to become a widely adopted currency.

For example, Bitcoin transaction processing times are slower and more expensive than those of traditional payment methods, and its price can be highly volatile, making it a less practical option for everyday transactions. Additionally, many countries have not yet established clear regulations around the use of cryptocurrencies, which could limit their widespread adoption as a currency.
...

Do you suppose that it will last until heat death of the universe? If we talk about that bitcoin will become a global currency we mean it become so someday, not this month. So right, there are some known problems which prevent from using bitcoin as a world currency right now, but all these problems can be solved in a near future. Technology is evolving faster than most of us can imagine.

That can be said about democratic countries such as the US or Taiwan. People elect government officials to do the job they're supposed to. But that doesn't apply in authoritarian countries such as China and Russia. Many of the world's governments have abused their power to get what they want, so I wouldn't be surprised if they "go the extra mile" just to keep people from using Bitcoin as an alternative to Fiat. The pioneer cryptocurrency (BTC) may not be the world currency, but it can still be used by anyone with an Internet connection. It's a new kind of money system that has no borders and no central authority behind it.

Who needs the government when Bitcoin can do fine on its own? The more people adopt BTC, the better. As long as it stays decentralized and censorship-resistant, nothing else matters. Just my opinion ;D

Other reasons will probably be overcome as technology evolves, but bitcoin's decentralization will never go away, and that's what governments hate the most.

Gold and silver and copper were money for thousands of years before fiat money. Governments had only soft control of right of coinage, but they had no option of making more metal from nothing. So they can deal with a currency system over which they have very small control. Of course they don't like it but it will not destroy them, it will just make them work some other way.

Everything is changing, some changes are for good (and I believe bitcoin is that way), some are for bad. But there is no way of making a static picture from the world. Except heat death of the universe. ;D

But those who are able to think and analyze will understand the difference. The properties of bitcoin are unique, but not very good for governments.

It doesn't have to be fiat.

The main thing would be to not pay capital gains taxes when you use your money(Bitcoin).

That's what would happen if most countries declare Bitcoin as legal tender.

CBDC is a Fiat currency, it was created by the government, it was just a digital version of Fiat and I didn't think they created CBDC to compete with Bitcoin. The world is changing and digitizing everything, so the launch of a digital currency is what will happen in the future if it doesn't happen now.

Even without the appearance of CBDC, Bitcoin will not have the opportunity to become a world currency. The government will never accept something not created by them and they cannot control it.

I doubt that there will be much effort to convince people of CBDCs being better. If they shove that digital system down your throat you are most likely left without choice and must use it for most of your daily needs. There are many regulatory ways to eventually force you to use a CBDC.

The bottom line is that it will come down to mass surveillance and imposed financial and fiscal policies that leave you no choice but to follow them. If there is only digital money in centralized controlled wallets by the governments, what is somebody going to do to avoid low or even negative interest rates? They can impose upon their citizens whatever they want and worse than that, they can collect a plethora of data about everyone and god knows what they are going to do with it. Just watch China...

Bitcoin has come to be a great alternative to the fiat currencies and the present financial system and not to strengthen it.
Think about it, if it was here to strengthen and support the present traditional financial fiat system of payment, then governments of the world would love bitcoin and support it.

I disagree with you, some minor nations have already accepted Bitcoins as their legal tender and it's only a matter of time for other countries to follow. The current system we have in place is flawed and needs to change over time. In most western countries politicians have full control over money supply and can print money when they need it. The intention was that countries can withstand a crisis better by printing more money, but the problem is politicians use it too often when they are not keeping their budget in check. In my opinion it's only a matter of time for people to demand change and a better control over the value of their money. Bitcoin would be the perfect tool for a country to keep the value of their currency and not allow politicians too freely print new money. And it's up to all of us the consumers to make Bitcoin a real currency by spending it regularly.

Bitcoin was designed to rival Fiat currencies, so don't think for a second it will "support the present financial system" anytime soon. While most governments have approved of Bitcoin, deep down, they hate it. Banks have been pushing against Bitcoin, claiming it's a fad or "illegal" money used for criminal activities. None of these entities want Bitcoin to succeed, otherwise it would signal the end of Fiat.

It's all about power/control, so I'd expect Fiat currencies to become stronger in the long run. Who knows what the future holds for Bitcoin as an alternative monetary system? Just my opinion :)

I think that Bitcoin, through lightning, is the perfect solution for micro payments in the web.

Want to continue reading this article?, pay a few sats. Want to download this ebook?, send some sats. And so on.

Bitcoin becoming world currency means it's no more decentralized and it's never going to happen, Nakamoto never created Bitcoin to be the world next big Fiat currency, it was built to give freedom to the adopters against centralized entities, Fiat is the government currency and Bitcoin is the people's currency, thats why it's fully decentralised and the government will never like anything decentralised anyways and it's cool.

Don't you know that bitcoin has been pelted with negativity for over a decade, what the hell, you're funny. If many people say negative things about it, this is also the reason why Bitcoin has become so popular, in which various investors in different countries around the world have invested and had of interest here.

And many governments have tried to control bitcoin but they couldn't because of the blockchain technology that bitcoin has. So only the other regulated altcoins can be controlled by the government.

We are still a long way away from Bitcoin being accepted widely as a means of payment. Bitcoin absolutely is a currency, but it is a currency of choice, not forced like fiat currencies are.

Will it replace fiat? No that is unlikely, simply because governments enforce fiat, so it isn't the people's choice. Over time more and more people will choose Bitcoin as it becomes normalized and there is much less sensationalized misinformation about it.

But then it will be the world's alternate currency. Most people will continue to take their paychecks in fiat, but many of them will save in Bitcoin and occasionally spend their Bitcoin savings on things. While some people will adopt mostly a Bitcoin standard and only rarely use fiat or just have some fiat in the bank for special purposes.

Will it become the world currency, yes. Though it'll probably take 20 years for that to happen. But being the world currency doesn't mean fiat won't exist. Nations will continue to have their own currencies that are used on a daily basis, and Bitcoin will exist alongside all over them all over the world. But none of that can happen until the idea of Bitcoin stops being sensationalized. The fact that it has been so successful in its price appreciation has not just caused a lot of people to love Bitcoin, but it is the primary reason why so many misinformed people hate Bitcoin - due to jealousy, the feeling of missing out, the idea that nothing legal or safe or real can appreciate so much. Once people stop sensationalizing Bitcoin and everyone can just accept it for what it is - a decentralized sovereign digital currency with perfect hard money qualities - it can start to be accepted as a means of payment.

Yeah, I see a future of people using Bitcoin while others use fiat. In a similar way to how now many people use credit/debit cards alongside people using cash.

Just like cash was dominant and credit cards started to be adopted slowly, I can see now that cards along with cash are dominant, but Bitcoin payments are slowly getting there.

I mean, this is already implemented in most shops in El Salvador. I've seen videos of Bitcoin payment processors implemented in the same screen where you select your items at McDonalds. There was a credit card reader outside of the screen that took cards, and felt so out of place, whereas the Bitcoin QR Code seemed much more natural.

Also, with lightning you can have micro payments in the web, finally, for real.

What you mean by bitcoin is here to strengthen the fiat currencies in the world if only they understand the coin and adopt it? In my opinion and opinion varies, Bitcoin is not here to become a world currency neither is it here to strengthen fiat currencies. Why would it want to strengthen fiat currency?

Bitcoin has come to be a great alternative to the fiat currencies and the present financial system and not to strengthen it.
Think about it, if it was here to strengthen and support the present traditional financial fiat system of payment, then governments of the world would love bitcoin and support it.

It depends on the perspective you are taking here. If you mean by stronger that Fiat gets more support and is even more exploitable by already established institutional frameworks, i.e. banks and politics, then yes, as soon as it goes digital it will be much stronger in the sense that governments can pull off even more shenanigans against their citizens.

But I think that time might also play into the hands of Bitcoin advocates. Right now we are arguing a lot with older generations, people who fear the status quo under which they grew up is now threatened. Psychologically that is almost perfectly normal behavior. Now with time passing by it is likely that more and more Bitcoin advocates also get into political positions of power. What is the chance that a president of the US in 20 years from now is a Bitcoin fan compared to Joe Biden being a Bitcoin fan? That's really an important factor in my opinion. The generation that is now speaking against Bitcoin is mostly people at age 50+ in powerful positions. If by tomorrow people between 25 and 40 had a majority vote, everything might be looking quite differently for Bitcoin in the positive sense already.

Time will tell! :)

It would be a "miracle" if Bitcoin becomes the standard unit of account worldwide. Just like Gold did back in the early days. But I don't think this will happen simply because governments won't allow it. They don't like digital money that's outside of their control. Countries that already passed friendly legislation towards Bitcoin, are only doing it because of the tax benefits it provides. Not because they're beginning to take Bitcoin seriously as a currency.

The pioneer cryptocurrency doesn't need the governments' approval to reach the masses. Anyone with an Internet connection can freely access it, making it "unofficially" a "world currency". If adoption keeps growing, Bitcoin will become a stronger competitor against traditional Fiat currencies. Who knows if BTC lasts for generations? Just my opinion :)

This will have an impact on the world of the future, now we cannot deny that the governments of different countries are paying attention to bitcoin. But they are still afraid of him and the reasons for this are different, some simply do not understand him, and some are afraid of him, because he does not fit into their management model.

They created the banking sector and they find this model very convenient, of course it is good for governments, because it allows them to control everything and allows them to print as much money as they need. With bitcoin, this will not work, and therefore many will not want to accept it.

But as you rightly said, times will change, people will come with a new vision, this should have a certain impact on the world in the future.

IMO it's not because of government ignorance but rather their rivalry with bitcoin that is stopping bitcoin in becoming global currency. Currently, the financial system of every country is fully centralized, aka controlled by government. If they opt for Bitcoin, then they have to sacrifice their control over the financial system.
Of course, we can't say how the future will be, but right now, it looks very much difficult that governments will accept Bitcoin.

Totally agree mate. Bitcoin will and can NEVER become the World Currency mainly because majority of the transactions can be unregulated and can impact the country negatively.  Instead what I can see happen is the government coming up with some solid currency which uses Blockchain technology and then maybe it can slowly start going global.

Fiat has been used for funding illicit activities since a long time.

The estimated amount of money laundered globally in one year is 2 - 5% of global GDP, or $800 billion - $2 trillion in current US dollars. Due to the clandestine nature of money-laundering, it is however difficult to estimate the total amount of money that goes through the laundering cycle.

If anything, Bitcoin makes everything a bit more transparent.

Bitcoin becoming world currency means it's no more decentralized and it's never going to happen, Nakamoto never created Bitcoin to be the world next big Fiat currency, it was built to give freedom to the adopters against centralized entities, Fiat is the government currency and Bitcoin is the people's currency, thats why it's fully decentralised and the government will never like anything decentralised anyways and it's cool.

yes I agree with your words.
and indeed if bitcoin is made into ordinary currency it seems that it will be difficult because of the unstable price of bitcoin.
because in my opinion bitcoin would be more suitable to be used as an investment asset only. Because
if it is used as fiat currency it will definitely be difficult.
if used as a means of investment would be good.

The Argentinean Peso and the Venezuelan bolivar have changed their value a lot, yet they're still currencies.

In 10 years or so, one Argentinean Peso went from being worth $1 to being worth one cent.

And the situation in Venezuela is even worse.

So, I think Bitcoin is pretty stable compared to that.

Bitcoin is a lot better than Fiat currencies because it can be used across borders and gives you complete control of your money. It has done well even with the decaying state of the global economy. If Bitcoin has reached this far, then it can do anything. I'd imagine people using it at a large scale worldwide pretty soon.

The pioneer cryptocurrency is not a "world currency", simply because it isn't officially recognized by mainstream governments as such. But technically, it is. After all, anyone can use it anywhere as long as there's access to the Internet. This is only the beginning of the "Bitcoin Revolution" that will change our world for the better. Who knows if someday BTC beats Fiat currencies for good? Just my thoughts ;D

Did you know? The value of Bitcoin is based on user consensus, which is ultimately based on utility and trust. The uses of blockchain technology are almost limitless, so it is interesting to see the development of this technology.

Even if Bitcoin doesn't become the only world currency, it still survives. It's been Thirteen years since Bitcoin was created, and I don't think it's going away after all this time.

It would still need some governments from major economies to foster practical regulation and accept Bitcoin for tax payments. They can still pass regulation that makes it overly complicated to use Bitcoin for various purposes. Especially when it comes to smaller scale transactions or micro transactions, they could force people to document everything from the origin to realized gains and losses etc. In the end it is a race that governments can't win, but they can delay the adoption process. At the same time they accelerate it by making a certain spectrum of transactions more feasible.

I don't know in how far technological questions like those about quantum computing and its impact on Bitcoin first need to be addressed and answered in more detail. If a cryptocurrency serves as the world currency, it should at least be clear that it can't be attacked by hidden innovation. What if one government is researching technology that nobody else knows about and it could attack a multi trillion dollar network? Could that result in a serious doomsday?

If the world is participating in the network, then I suppose it will become indirectly the reserve currency. The OP is right in saying that the state will likely never recognize it as a global currency. Who cares! The state may fall in the interim. By this stage, money network participation with the best consensus will rule...and I think Bitcoin will always hold the standard necessary to facilitate what the world will eventually need.

Yes bitcoin will not become the world currency because it is not created to be the world currency or neither was it created to fight other currencies because it was created to be an alternative currency. The battle for bitcoin is not to be the world only currency, rather it is fighting to survive side by side along other currencies and even cryptocurrency.

Yep, regardless of whether they finally admit it or not, bitcoin is still bitcoin and in the end only a few countries admit it because indeed with their interests, especially for large countries, it is clear that it will be very difficult to make bitcoin into something of more value to them.
But that's not a problem as long as there's no ban then that's already a good thing.

Even they would be banning it but still there's nothing they could do since the support of the community is getting bigger day by day.Yes, it wont really be that an easy thing for it to be spread in every corners of the globe considering that each government does really have their own stance and even there are ones who do accept and legalized it but most of them do really go into banning side.
Bitcoins existence will not become the world currency and wouldnt really become mainstream since fiat would really be always on the top but at least we do really have that alternative
plus we do know on what its benefits and other stuffs and this is why its really getting that huge attention.

I don’t think it’s fighting to survive side by side among other cryptocurrencies as there isn’t any alt coin that would rival the dominance of bitcoin. It is better said that bitcoin is fighting to stay side by side among the world fiat currencies. Although I don’t think bitcoin was created to try and phase out the fiat method of payment, it certainly has become a worthy contender. I think with bitcoin, there is still some potential that’s still yet to be unlocked. Bitcoin has come to stay.

It depends on how do you define this combination of words. If you define it as an only currency in the world then right, bitcoin will hardly become so as its decentralized nature is just opposite to it. But if you think about being among anchor currencies then why not: bitcoin can be and an anchor currency and be accepted really widespread, and we can call that a world currency even if there will be multiple currencies else.

I think the fact that anyone in the world can buy and sell Bitcoin 24/7, anywhere, makes it a bit more volatile.

All the fiat currencies usually are traded in a small period of time (9-5 Monday to Friday)... and also they can be controlled to make them more stable. Actually this sounds so archaic in the times of the Internet

Basically Bitcoin will probably always be more volatile because events in other countries might affect its price immediately in other countries.

And that is of course regardless of whether Bitcoin will be used as a world currency or not, because Bitcoin has a technology that is very influential for everyone and this will make Bitcoin even bigger when there are many countries that start to agree to accept Bitcoin as a means of payment like Fiat is still accepted for any payments.

how can you conclude that btc is a reserve currency while btc is not a currency.
even though the economy is collapsing fiat will be the main thing and physical gold will accompany it
I'm not anti btc but that's how the world really is
btc is just a digital asset

It is not because of that you can trade it any time of a day, it is because that it has no regulation in trading. Any possible decision has both benefits and flaws so at these early stages of bitcoin adoption and development it can be so that beneficial decentralization at the other side gives the whales an option of easier starting a wave in a market. But to me the benefits of decentralization are more weighty so I'm ready to put up these temporary flaws. :)

Exactly. Governments simply won't allow that to happen. Otherwise, they would lose control over people's financial life. Bitcoin will only remain an alternative currency for those seeking true financial freedom. The fact that it can be used anywhere there's access to an Internet connection, is more than enough to classify it as a "world currency".

Some governments officially recognized BTC as legal tender, while others are banning it completely. Yet, Bitcoin's decentralized and censorship-resistant design makes it immune from governments' actions. It will certainly live alongside Fiat for generations. Who knows how far Bitcoin will go in terms of mainstream adoption worldwide? Just my opinion :)
