Though I'm new in the cryptocurrency space,I have been hearing so much about crypto ( Bitcoin precisely) lately even before I got registered on the forum and I had to ask this very question because in three days I've heard and seen people talk and discuss about Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general and it prompted my question wanting to know why it has been talked about this much and gaining more acceptance in my local community despite it's restrictions in my country and is it also gaining this much fame in your environment?

Not really. The bitcoin/crypto hype peaked in 2021 in the country I'm currently in (Philippines), and I'm pretty certain it's pretty much the same for most parts of the world. Not because we had a good price bounce after all the exchange fiasco doesn't necessarily mean bitcoin is gaining fame.

over the years i have gone down the same motorway(highway) dozens of times a fortnight. oblivious to my surroundings.
then giving a lift to a friend that is obsessed with fishing. he was pointing out al the rivers, and ponds along the motorway. now i cant stop noticing them.. and im not even into fishing but now its like these fishing spots are everywhere i see loads of them on my travels

What sort of restrictions have been placed on it. Regulations normally allow things to gain acceptance providing they're not an outright ban (or near one).

When were people talking about it? Was that recently due to the last spike or has it been ongoing for a while? If it's more recently, are you sure they weren't already talking about it like franky said?

Crypto hype in general has been going on for longer than bitcoin has been a thing imo. Bank security is generally worse than most exchanges that function in cryptocurrency now because of it and a lot of cryptocurrency holders also have more secure assets too because they have no need to trust in anyone else to keep their keys secure (though there'll be people in the market with weaker security too so it's a topic worth researching).

Human are greedy and they're always looking for something which can help them to be richer. Bitcoin is one of most profitable assets for investors so it is noisy on media in the last few years.

You can see how Bitcoin survived through many fuds, crashes in cryptocurrency market as well as many shocks from economics, politics black swan events.

First of all, he is popular because of his idea — the idea of free money that neither the bank nor the government controls.

People spread the word quickly when they want others also to make money with what is in the trend. BTC is not just the trend recently, it had been trending over and over, the mainstream media, however, wasn't very open in talking about it for the people to be interested but they keep claiming it's a scam.

Last week it was on the news because Bitcoin price is spiking high. Everybody becomes a mentor once again spreading the word to invest in BTC and the people who see it as an opportunity I guess FOMO is on the air.

Just as other users have said, Bitcoin hype has been there since 2021 when it reach it's all time high of about $60k that's if I'm not wrong.
Since I don't know your country I think you alone can answer that question but generally I think the recent hype would be because of the recent rise in the price of Bitcoin because it has been down in the bear market for a long time now and most people would be happily talking about it.
Yes it is and I've got more people wanting to jump into the industry lately with hopes of catching up with the price rise.

Bitcoin doesn't really have that much fame in my opinion. We hear about it in the media from time to time but I don't consider it "fame" because it doesn't have corresponding adoption and adoption is the only "fame" bitcoin needs or has. We all know bitcoin adoption is still very small globally.

As for the reason for whatever amount of "fame" bitcoin has, it is pretty obvious if you ask me. Bitcoin offers a very unique set of utilities that people can not find elsewhere. There is no other currency in the world that can give you financial sovereignty and appreciate in value over long term.

You are welcome to the platform. Cryptocurrency and bitcoin in particular is decentralized asset in which nobody including authorities can't control or regulate the price of the currency. And also investing in bitcoin is much more better than Fiat currency so known this people leave their minor works and investment to Join bitcoin. When you buy bitcoin at the rate of $16,000 or below and you wait till at the rate of of $50,000 and sell it then you Will see the increase income of it.

Firstly bitcoin has gain massive recognition not just because it’s the first of its kind but its uniqueness which is classified decentralization. The continuous regularizations by banks or restrictions to the freedom of one’s funds when they want has inclined people to bitcoin. Its features like hedging against inflation also plays a role. But the most important part of its fame is the ability to gain profit by just holding for long. Humans look everywhere to gain profit and that is why even Ponzi schemes get lots of people investing in them. The fud or rather hate by the government has one way or the other spread news about it and this has some investors into picking interest in it, clear example is countries whose its adoption grows after government ban. Lastly the social media which is easily use this days to spread news or stereotypes has one way or the other influence it’s popularity.

The important factor is active accounts not user accounts. Anybody can create any number of accounts on any of these websites (I have one with Binance) and never use it (I don't) and yet be a statistic there. Maybe someone who created the account to see what bitcoin is and then realized they don't want to buy it at all. I said accounts since until you verify your account you can create as many as you want.
You also aren't taking into account the people who have an account on both sites.
So you can't use that number to find number of "crypto users".

That's not to mention that trading cryptocurrencies is not the same as using them (ie real adoption)...

Maybe you're from Nigeria or a similar country where Bitcoin is sort of restricted, but it seems that people are actively using it just fine, which leads me to assuming that using it isn't really prosecuted even if it is technically illegal. If your country has strict and enforced anti-crypto legislation, then I'd be surprised if Bitcoin still were popular. In many countries, luckily, Bitcoin isn't banned, and it's either legal or in the gray area, which is basically safe in most cases. So I'd attribute Bitcoin's fame to being a great-performing asset (if you zoom out), being a revolutionary kind of money (the one no authority issues or controls, the one with fixed total supply and without monetary policies set by anyone, and the one you can send internationally without getting banks or anyone else involved), and partly to it not being severely restricted by the authorities of various countries, actually.

Due to the decentralised nature of Bitcoins, no one other than yourself can know how many Bitcoins you have in your wallet. This feature provides the user to manage his finances independently, without having to beg and follow the government or banks. This is the main and primary reason for which Bitcoin has lot many fame. And to counter this many government have banned the coin. Another reason for which many people have interest on Bitcoins is that due to the limited amount of coins. Soon it will become valuable and people will sell it in high price.

As a human, this is very simple to grasp. When something becomes popular and becomes the talk of the society or community, it is either used for good or used against it. Bitcoin has suffered from both, most notably from black ash and bad press from those who oppose its global implementation as legal tender.

One thing you should take away from all of this is that bitcoin is still gaining acceptance around the world, despite the government's opposition. People still believe and trust in it, which should persuade you that bitcoin is worth the good name and fame it carries. Millions of people can't be attached to something if it's not worth it.

In my country, Bitcoin is mainly popular among youths and people in the tech sector. Most people that are fifty and above have little or no knowledge about the currency in my locality. Although it is restricted in my country, yet young citizens are attracted to the coin because of some notable benefits it offers. I think bitcoin would get more recognition if the economic condition of my country improves. This is because people are currently focusing on meeting their basic needs and only a few are considering investments. A good product would always get the right attention, that's why bitcoin would keep attracting more people to its fold.

It is because bitcoin offers freedom. People are not mostly free nowadays. Some of them think they are free but in reality they are just slaves. Bitcoin is putting an end to slavery. With bitcoin, you are your own bank. You have the total control of your funds. Gold offers a similar deal too but the difference is, bitcoin is actually portable and you can move it from one country to another without asking permission from anybody.

Bitcoin is life changing tech. Of course people will talk about it.

Why is bitcoin gaining this much fame despite its restrictions? Easy… Bitcoin is a life changing innovation that has shaken both the governments of the world as well as the traditional financial institutions.
Of course it would attract the curious minded ones and curiosity is a trait that’s in every individual and that’s why it has and is still fast gaining adoption despite restrictions, criticism and outright bans from governments and financial institutions.

Bitcoin gives us control over our wealth; with Bitcoin, we can now save money by investing in Bitcoin with the goal of making a profit over time, as opposed to FIAT currency, which depreciates over time, and holding fiat in commercial banks can earn you nothing or only small interest, whereas Bitcoin can give you more than 10x of it without any third-party having control over your wealth.

Despite the Federal Government of Nigeria's Bitcoin restrictions, the Nigerian youth are very interested in Bitcoin investment, and the rate at which the youths are adopting Bitcoin is very high, which has drawn the government's attention to Bitcoin legalization.

Although not the first cryptocurrency as there are others in the past, but they all failed. But with Satoshi's invention, it really disrupt everything, giving majority of us financial freedom and obviously the price did go up in the last couple of years.

And then we have this kind of activity we call block halving, which we haven't seen before. So the concept and everything is like a first so everyone is jumping on board. Others think it's controversial, calling it scam, and everything negative. But that is the beauty of it, the publicity of it makes it very (in)famous and now everyone wanted to give a piece of it.

I would not say it’s getting fame, at least not in the positive manner. I mean look around us, bitcoin is getting connected with negative articles all the time. Whether it is hack of some exchanger or whether it is some scumbag claiming himself Satoshi, all goes to the south every time. That’s how bitcoin is getting known around the world. People are more concern about the privacy of it being the most pseudonymous asset made in this era. Bitcoin as we know is must have asset but that’s us who are in the crypto since long and know reality of bitcoin. We love it and we will always say good things about it. But as far as it’s being pictured these days, it’s completely nasty game. Decide from this whether bitcoin is getting the fame or blame ?

People are always interested in restricted items. You can imagine the same for Bitcoin. Even though there are many restrictions, people like it because of the decentralization and freedom. More investors entering the Bitcoin market means that the price will rise. If investors begin to leave, the price will fall. That is how the Bitcoin movement operates. Bitcoin is also restricted in my country, but we use it and its popularity is growing by the day. It is simply due to true decentralization.

Yeah that feelings have occupy my mind for over a year now, my story is around 2021 i bought my first car which os a silver Nissan Al.era Tino 2004 model, silver colour and preown and when at the car dealer shop i never seen that car on the road before .

Infact it look like the first of it kind to me, and as soon as i bought my own.

Same with cryptocurrency and every other assets, Bitcoin most especially is most spoken of, and lately everyone seems to be interested in Bitcoin.

No matter how government of a country ban bitcoin, citizens will definitely find a way to buy and sell their bitcoin, even if they can't use it to buy things in the country. When the Central bank of my country was banning accounts that have been linked with crypto transactions, I was suprised that bitcoin was gaining more popularity in my country during that particular time, no matter how government try to ban bitcoin, people will definitely still look for a way to trade it in the country.

Dear as you know the way to heaven and the way to rightness goes from a difficult path. Actually, in poetry, the destination is nothing but the path is everything so applying this concept to Bitcoin. When there is great fall dear from there a great rise starts this is nature. Gold is purified in fire and Bitcoin is purified in the Restrictions in adoption.

When there is something new and promising for the future, everyone will compete with their greed to take advantage of that condition, and now it's happening in bitcoin, with conditions that are currently quite good in terms of technology, and lots of people have jumped in here and got results. the good thing is that not a few people follow things like this and maybe even one of them is myself, even though at first I didn't really like bitcoin, but gradually with different views I switched to bitcoin until now.
On the other hand, today's era has progressed and with lots of searches about bitcoin on the internet, it will obviously improve their algorithm so that it becomes increasingly booming and more and more people will be looking for it.

I think it's thanks to the news media by all means, contradictions, hyperbole, even "assassinate" attempts, although really they are just taking advantage in the number of views.
From a technical point of view, Bitcoin is still not restricted (censorship). An alternative way for policies to make boundaries appear to work and be effective is to limit users, resources/infrastructure, etc.

in my opinion because investing in bitcoin is very easy and can be achieved by all people, even with 15 dollars. can invest in bitcoin, and many people believe that bitcoin in the future will have a high price.

My guess is that Bitcoin or crypto has become a topic because of its price. When the price rises fast, it suddenly becomes a hot topic. When the price nosedives fast, it also becomes a hot topic. Or when there are big news like the sudden death of Terra or the fall of FTX.

Whatever, at least Bitcoin or crypto has caught the attention of people. I'd like to believe that there's no right or wrong start for as long as it ends up with the familiarization and appreciation of the technology.

And actually, some of the restrictions are not placed by your government or the government of the exchange's country of incorporation, but by the KYC provider itself! As in, they deny your passport taken from your (live) camera for God knows why, and for other countries, they only take passports and ID cards are not listed.

Because bitcoin has a limited supply so that many people are interested in investing with bitcoin, basically many investors, of course, they will be more interested in investing in rare goods such as gold and silver as well as bitcoin which has only 21 million in stock, moreover bitcoin is believed to be has a higher value during halvings and so far it has been proven that halving events always make bitcoin movement experience massive pumping and are able to create new ATH after that.
Bitcoin is one of the assets that is very promising to invest because it offers large returns, so it's no wonder that currently bitcoin's popularity is increasing among the public.

When the government is restrict and ban Bitcoin usage, I believe if someone report you to police, you would face legal law and might go to jail isn't? Even you can prove if you're not use Bitcoin for money laundering, scam, illegal, etc.

Words spreads faster than a wild fire because of the social media. Once people heard about a very profiting investment, they tend to jump quickly into it, and as a result, scammers always takes advantage of these human weaknesses.
So, the popularity Bitcoin has gained is a mixed positive and negative feedback. You can see Bitcoin enthusiast as much as anti-Bitcoin.
So, the more people talks about Bitcoin, regardless if it's a positive or negative feedback, the popularity will gradually grow.

It can be said that bitcoin is a multifunctional asset that can be used as a currency, a payment method...But what makes it so famous and tied to its growth is its volatility, thanks to volatility, it can generate bigger returns than other types of investments. But I don't think bitcoin is becoming so popular that, as you say, most people in the world still don't know about bitcoin. The crypto or bitcoin community is still very modest and that is an advantage for us. I don't know where OP is from but from the past, I remember whenever China tried to ban bitcoin it backfired by gaining more popularity and value so it all depends on how people see it and what the government is trying to do with it.

In this 2023, almost the community exposed what bitcoin is capable of which forcing the governments to make it legal or regulate it as an asset since they found they literally can't ban bitcoin unless their blackout internet worldwide forever.

Despite the lack of official support or widespread acceptance, bitcoin has created an ecosystem where many people are willing to trade and accept it almost all over the world, and some users find bitcoin more valuable or more useful than other currencies, because bitcoin transactions do not take time. the old way and how to use it is also very easy and fast, even the tax for sending bitcoin transactions is also cheaper compared to bank taxes or other services, bitcoin has also spread far, there are even 14 major world companies already using blockchain technology and several countries actually want to clone bitcoin , because bitcoin is very good.

Not only you, but this problem I have met many times before from friends who want to learn about it, firstly I want to tell you to try to learn some basic concepts with bitcoin in WPP , then look back at its history. I see the problem that a lot of people today are losing their knowledge of basic concepts, it's easier to imagine when we talk about a problem of knowledge in a university environment for a newborn child, it will cannot feel. And even if the profits are small for the standards of this market, bitcoin has grown 40% which is a big amount compared to other markets and if you use leverage the amount is even larger than that, so as you can see there is a strong justification why your are hearing so much about bitcoin at your community.

No matter the restrictions, the Bitcoin will keep getting popular as those who love decentralization when it comes to carrying out transactions will always choose bitcoin over every other form of payment. Bitcoin is also seen as a great means of investment which is superior to the trading of stocks. Bitcoin can make you huge profit with short period but can also mar your financial strength when it falls.

Things or people can still get popular, that is become famous and have fame both with a positive review and a negative review about them. It takes very good news or very bad news for things to trend because people get to hear about it in those situations.

 So OP, bitcoin is still getting attention even  though some governments have labelled it as bad and placed restrictions on it because as it is restricted, the people in that country will have to be updated with what the government has just restricted, in doing so more persons hear about bitcoins. I understand that this can be a kind of negative publicity for bitcoins, but the truth is that people will always get to find out after a while of hearing the government's side and reason for the restrictions, the real truth, the identity, the benefits and reason behind the creation of bitcoins which threatens government institution and what the government is really afraid of.

Bitcoin isn't gaining that much popularity in my environment. I live in a small town, where most of the people are boomers, who don't know that much about technology and computers. ;D
Anyway, Bitcoin is getting so much fame because it appears more often on the news, even on bad news about crypto scams or ransomware being used to hack various systems. You know the saying "there's no such thing as bad advertising".
I wouldn't say that Bitcoin is being restricted, it's just the regulatory frame surrounding Bitcoin is pretty unclear in many countries around the world, so many people don't know if Bitcoin is allowed or banned in their jurisdictions.

Bitcoin is gaining fame because people believe that it can potentially disrupt the current financial system. The current financial system is monopolistic and doesn't provide much opportunities of growth to an average person. Bitcoin is a revolutionary concept in the world of finance as it is deflationary and decentralized & its network can be used to make transaction across the border within minutes without involving any financial institution. Bitcoin's underlying technology, blockchain, also has the potential to be used in a wide range of industries, and as a result it has been gaining attention of media all over the world.

Bitcoin is gaining popularity in my neighborhood, but they prefer to discuss it when they are hanging out somewhere with not many people because they think that for now, it is better not to be too public about bitcoin. Bitcoin gets more regulations from the government because many people have experienced fraud from investment programs that have harmed many people, so the government has applied many rules to anticipate this.

Understanding and educating the public on bitcoin would spread more faster than just mere talking about bitcoin, the whole process involving bitcoin is one of the key part to know before buying pieces of it. Popularity of bitcoin is increasing by the day and the government doing everything within their capacity to restrict it's flow of operation, but seems like the harder the government push, the more it's value becomes important to the people. My theory is that despite its restrictions, bitcoin is becoming so well-known because of the value it brings to our everyday lives. Just think of how much simpler it has made it for those without bank accounts to be able to provide their service, receive payment promptly, and then use that money to buy food for their families that same evening. Consider parents who send their children to a distant nation to attend school and pay for their living expenses. They no longer have to wait 3-5 business days for the money to transfer and pay USD 30 in transfer fees; instead, they may send the money with a USD 0.00001 cost each transfer, and their children will get it in 3 minutes.

Those who restrict Bitcoin are nothing but just haters. They do that because they can't control it. Despite of it, there are still people/government/countries who allows it and that is why BTC can still be able to shine. There is no need to wonder on why BTC is famous. Well, obviously because it's a one of kind currency. Not just a currency actually but it can also be use as an asset but other than a normal asset, btc can quickly dump and pump.

This is another reason on why many are interested about it. Just be careful OP because you said BTC is restricted in your country? I might avoid talking BTC in public until the situation changes and BTC became fully accepted.

Maybe because a lot of people are seeing it as a get-rich-quick scheme because of the fuss everywhere that bitcoin is the best way to generate huge profits. While for me it’s also true because you can really make the best of profits out from bitcoin but it can never be gained quickly as everyone is fussing around. And since it has the latest technology and we are at a digital world, then digital currencies will become of high demand these days.

Yeah you are not wrong, bitcoin is getting really famous because of maybe one or two things that been occurring in the crypto space for example the rapid rise in the price of over a short time which have seen many investors benefited from it and also the financial freedom its give its user because of its decentralized nature making one free government control fiat. Mostly the success stories are usually spread which catches the attention of most people who are easily drawn to news like this. But their is also a downside fact about bitcoin investment which most people don't like telling. Bitcoin is highly volatile which makes it unique and a bit dangerous too as you can lose alot after a bitcoin investment, when the price rate starts to go downhill just like what happened last year when bitcoin droped so much to almost 15 to 16k after reaching an all time high of 64k in 2021


As for bitcoin gaining more acceptance though its restricted in your locality, i think that's same faith also here in my place our government have put a band on crypto to be transacted with the nation fiat banks directly  but still didn't stop  people from queing up into the use of crypto through peer to peer transaction on popular exchanges like binance. Many people even go as far as accepting it as a means of payment in their businesses, so i am not really supprise as the forum here too have some thread created on how members have started the acceptance of bitcoin even after some restrictions on their region

In speaking with profitability then it cant really be denied that Bitcoin or crypto as a whole could really make out that kind of probability or giving out some chances for you to profit big in shortest time as possible.

it would really be that common for most newbies or who are just new into this market to have that misconception that earning would be easy.Just let them be and able to realize on whats the real deal on this market.
On the time that they would find out then pretty sure they would tell to themselves that it wasnt something that correlates or what they do expect on the time that they were just new.This is where people do learn on the time that they would be experience some losses.Recognition is on the move and we arent that blind on what are the things on what makes Bitcoin best among the rest.

Bitcoin has a way of turning all the negativity out there from being against it and uses it for an advantage. Like Franky1 has rightly stated, people don't get or tend to see something until you put your mind to it. Once you start noticing it, then you get to see it all the place and all the time. I hope I I rephrase that right Franky1.

Anyway I would say, when the tough and powerful start to fight a particular thing and even if it were to be a person, watch out for that person or thing, therr might be something good about it that, they don't want exposed to the world.
The good news is, people don't blindly follow these days. People seek to investigate, to find therr own reason if they can, why or why not to do a thing.  The few which manage to go through a the research would find out that, the negativity ain't true.

People are looking out for means to survive and and not to lose opportunity in the new world and so, its not hard not to look.

For some reason the acceptance of bitcoin is good with most of the businesses. This has grown out of the increasing demand among the common people and upon people's better understanding about bitcoin as the best investment and transaction support system. The real-time usage access as well as the growth have made people look for loopholes to use it amidst restrictions in different parts of the world. This itself shows how demanding is bitcoin.

as we know and it has become a habit I think when the prohibition was made there were those who thought it was an order, with restrictions / prohibitions on bitcoin making people even more curious about what it is and feel the benefits / advantages that come when owning bitcoin
for my country there is no prohibition with bitcoin, it's just that we bear everything ourselves if fraud occurs in this case

Anything which generated money in any sense would be popular. Despite of not being allowed to be used to majority of countries, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are still known by many people as a profitable asset. The market price is too volatile which is a downside as a currency but is something to be taken advantage of. No doubt. The rate of increase is what making this industry popular, higher than most kind of investments. Problem only is knowing which coin would have a price increase since all cryptos' market price are controlled by demand of the majority, therefore, analysis of the market will be always needed.

The "restrictions" are not restrictions, that's why. I mean bitcoin is the most free thing we have ever seen before, and that's why it's such a great thing. I do not mean free as in it's not costing any money at all, I just mean the freedom part of it and when you are using bitcoin you are as free as you can get with it.

In the end, people will use whatever they want to use and if they want to use bitcoin then it means they are free to use bitcoin as they want, there is nothing wrong with that. I support bitcoin because I believe that governments are only looking out for themselves and their rich friends, bitcoin is there to help everyone equally and why it's such a great thing.

So even if the government is clearly in opposition with bitcoin, but it cannot stop the sudden popularity of bitcoin since its now the hot topic all over the news and in social media. While this is an opportunity for some potential investors, this might also become a trap set by scammers around.

China's "ban" was theatrics. They've made no real efforts of enforcement but I'd caution that it won't last forever. They're trying to introduce CBDC's (digitalized Yuan) and I'm anticipating crypto crackdowns within China to force citizens to adopt their digital currency.

The popularity increase of crypto in China was riding off the back of global crypto popularity rise so it wasn't necessarily that the Chinese bad had the inverse effect itself. Lot of Chinese crypto users were already in the space which is why China tried to ban it in the first place.
