Title: [ASK] Does this forum really have its own wallet platform?
Post by: Pandorak on January 25, 2023, 12:12:44 PM
Hi everyone, i'm Pandorak and a newbie user in this forum. After registering an account yesterday, i logged in today, and got a private message about an intra-forum wallet. I got this private message from bvalis (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=883802) who claims to be a Moderator for this forum.

Here's the message he sent:

Quote

No, that's not a legit wallet, most probably somebody has tried to scam you.
The usual way to handle this is to report that message.
As a rule of the thumb, always be wary of unsolicited private conversations. In most cases those are attempts for scam.

...and.... I don't know what else the forum could do about this.

No, there's no such thing, and that person is not one of the moderators here, you can click the report button on the PM you received so mods or admins can take necessary action, probably ban him for life.

It's scam, this is what the looks on that's site, that's person clone this forum.

Few reasons why it's scam:
1. There's no my name below Bitcoin Forum.
2. There's no reply, watch, notify, mark unread, and print button.
3. The thread isn't locked, but there's no quote button.
4. The trust +27 isn't show in green color.

I don't remember someone named Mike being a bitcointalk moderator. Plus, the link redirects you to a phishing website. And more importantly, there is no such thing as bitcointalk wallet.

If we're talking about wallet, that would be bitcoin core or electrum. Nothing else.

Thanks for the quick response. Before, i thought that was an important part of this forum. Ok, i will report the PM now. But, why is there no negative trust on the account? it makes it seem as though the message and platform are legit.

I already give negative feedback and flagged the account https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;flag=3087

The guy just woke up, mean he just got active after a long time of inactivity based on his trust feedback page (the orange phrase). Probably was hacked or something, well, now he deserves a red tag.

If one is not reported and not caught... no way the people would know and tag him.
And after a report like this... I would expect that account gets punished in a way or another, or even banned.

However, as already said, after this topic of yours, that account will most probably become red too. got red too. I've just taken care of that.

Thanks, it will help other newbies to realize that they are getting PM from dangerous person. But that's not enough, because he/she default account display still doesn't show negative trust.

Thanks, he/she is got his reward now. :D

There was another user promoting the same wallet malware today. (See the report (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5182222.msg61651819#msg61651819) made by Lafu.)
Both swami84 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1379113) and bvalis (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=883802) should be banned, because they shared a malware. Both of them woke up on January 18 and are now probably controlled by the same person.

Many errors has made this already a visible attempts for scam and i will like to highlight some of the things in this regards every user must be careful with not to fall into hands of scammers.

1. The forum Administration will not send any PM to members to introduce such to tuem, they will rather prefer opening a thread and engage other members along.

2. This is all about altcoins introduction on the altcoins discussion board and not bitcoin, while this is bitcointalk community.

3. If you check the link address given from the link, it's not the original bitcointalk.org address which also is another reason this is purely scam.

4. When you check the forum administration profile, you wouldn't see anything of such which means it's a scam, everything about the link was plagiarized with the intent to scam people.

Warnings to newbies and other members of this noble community, we must be very careful especially when we receive PMs that could be a phishing one with the aim to attack us by giving some offers beyond the reasonable doubt to deceive us.

At least we can hope that maybe the alts won't be so old accounts (unless hacked and/or bought), hence they'll be much less credible.

Does not matter if the old account tries to scam or a new account because there are always people who get trapped in these fake phishing scams.
The scammer will come with all sort of ideas to scam people which no one can even think of.

Look like you have opened the site. I would not even click the site because we never know if we get infected by any malware just by opening this scam clone site.

The OP and all others that have quoted the first post with the Link should be editing there posts and make the Link unclickable !
Something like this:
Code:
https_://[PHISHING LINK REMOVED]/
Just to be sure that nobody will get to the Fake and Phishing webpage .
We dont want that more Accounts get hacked and stolen as the Hackers already have.

Just my 2 cents.

That sentence alone should raise suspicion, dear forum users! imagine someone like theymos use something like dear. On top of that giving 100 free bitcoins. this is more of a funny joke. Lol.🤣 never repost a suspicious link.

It's a scam

This person is not a moderator of the Bitcointalk forum and what's more, the staff will never send you any personal messages asking you to go to external sites to handle your account.

You should report any such PM you receive using the "Report" button at the bottom of the PM so that the real moderators can ban this imposter.

Thank you for reporting this. You are an observant user, we hardly see newbies being this careful as to check closely whatever mails they receive. How did the scammer even get to find you out? Did he just sit on the members search to constantly refresh it to look for new registration so he can pm them? This is an evil act and good that his account is now banned by mod.

Thanks for your attention to this topic, but the problem that occurred here has really been resolved.
- I have reported the PM to the mods
- bvalis (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=883802) account has received 3 negative trusts, and
- has been banned.

You're welcome, i'm glad to be a little useful in this forum. Regarding how he found me, i don't know what mechanism he used, we can only hope that no one will become a victim of his actions in this forum.

To avoid spam on this topic, i'm going to lock this topic now, thanks to everyone who has given attention.
