Title: 🥧 1st edition - Bitcointalk Pie Baking Contest 🥧
Post by: RickDeckard on February 14, 2023, 12:00:01 AM

Welcome to the first edition of the Bitcointalk Pie Baking Contest!
See it in your local board: French (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5441407) | Indonesian (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5442963)| Philippines (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5444569.0) | Romanian (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5443813.0) | Spanish (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5440295.0) | Turkish (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5442418.msg61878809#msg61878809)
Voting phase has started! Cast your vote here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5444932.0).

In order to truly celebrate the upcoming Pie Day on 3/14, a small group of users discussed (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5438434) that it would be fun to use the event to launch a contest within our community related with baking and posting delightful pies but with a small twist - Instead of the main star of the event being the famous Pie number, we would replace it with no other than Bitcoin itself.

Prize:

There will be 3 places for winners - 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and the prize will be paid in BTC. The way that the prize will be handed out is fairly simple - 1st place will earn 60 % of the available pot, 2nd place wins 30 % and 3rd place wins 10 %. Additionally, icopress has brought awesome news from Betnomi - They will contribute with 1 custom wallet (Ledger Nano X) to the 1st place and thus officially sponsoring our event!
Everyone is free to contribute to the prize pool and, if you do choose to do that, I kindly ask you to post here in the thread the amount and I'll update the table below. At the end of the contest I'll make the math and post which amount should be sent to whom and by which user. Currently the prize pool holds the following funds:

Special thanks:

[1]I don't have words for what @jayce did. I initially approached him to ask for a quote regarding making a signature related with this contest but not only did he promptly said he refused to take any payment but he also ended up making an outstanding signature in a short amount of time! I really can't thank him enough and I urge you to reach out for his services[2] and, if you're still in doubt, do check out his awesome work while you're on there. Once again, thank you so much jayce!

      • Only 1 entry per user (you're free to include any number of pies on your picture);
      .....
      • No minimum entries for the contest to run;

These 2 rules are somewhat confusing, in my understanding they're contradictory. cmiiw
Also, are participants allowed to recreate work? (i hope not)

      Edit:

The first rule mean you can only create one pie to submit in the contest, but you can post the picture of your pie as much as you want.

The second one mean there's no minimum members need to join in order the contest to run, so let's say only 3 users join, three of them will have 100% guarantee get the prize. The same applies there's no limit people who want to join, if there's 100 peoples, 100 peoples are valid as long as they follow the rules.

Recreate work? I think even someone want to try to recreating a pie he found on a website, they can't copy paste 100% like the original work and there's will be an uniqueness from each participants. So I don't think it's possible for someone trying to copy paste other people's pie.

rat03gopoh: In case there's any doubt, Helena Yu has answered your questions in the correct manner. I've adjusted the last rule regarding minimum entries to make sure that the message is more clear to other users. Thank you for the feedback!

I will become the first participant, so here's my own pie for this contest.

It's an egg pie where the main ingredients obviously are egg and milk, it took me around 2-3 hours to finish it.

              Prize Pool:
              ════════════════════
              UsernameAmount (BTC)
              ════════════════════
              RickDeckard0.0065
              ════════════════════
              Total0.0065
              ════════════════════

I see that the competition is already starting, because in order to publish a donation address for those who want to contribute their funds to create a pool of rewards, and this will be more open in my opinion.

Oh shoot, a pie is different than a cake? Ok we eat the cake now and make a pie ( in German it's basically the same ) , need some more days then, hahaha.

Thank you for the feedback Daltonik. If I understood corretly, you're saying that I should publish a donation address for those willing to contribute to the prize pool. I've discussed also this issue on my previous thread[1] about the topic. Basically we could have three options:

              • Option 1 - I would publish a donation address under my control - I would sign it - and whoever wanted could donate funds to it. When it was time to distribute the funds, I would personally send them to the winners. However, with this option, it would mean that users would have to trust me as someone who would distribute the funds when the contest ended. Some users could rightly say that I don't have any kind of trust in the forum to deal with other people donations and that they wouldn't feel very at ease with that;
              • Option 2: Use a trusted escrow from the forum in order to deal with all donation related questions;
              • Option 3 (the one that was chosen): Whoever wants to donate just needs to post in the thread and I'll update the initial post with the user name and amount promised to the prize pool. When the contest ended, I would do the math and post a table with the distribution needed in order for the winners to receive their money.

At the end of the day it was just a matter of making sure that users were confident in the option chosen and considering that I don't have any trust established here, we ended up going for the third option as it seemed a balanced one.

Congratulations for the initiative! It's always good, to motivate the community.  ;)

I can't promote in the signature... But I'll try to promote it any way I can.
You can always go through the Portuguese tab and make a post there, I know you can! It'll be cooler than doing it myself.  ;)

However, if it's my wife doing the afternoon, is it also valid?
Clearly she's better than I am... and in the end I'm going to want to eat something really nice.  :P

I understood, thanks for the answer, I'm actually ready to invest 0.03 BTC in the pool, just notifications to the mail about updating topics come with a delay, so it's advisable to inform the DM when you need to make a donation, so as not to be in an awkward position.

edit: I apologize for the editing, an error occurred, in fact, the amount of 0.003 BTC was meant, thank you GazetaBitcoin for clarifying the question.

0.03 BTC? Are you sure? Or you meant, perhaps, 0.003 BTC? I am asking because it is a very big amount... Nevertheless, such donation is certainly appreciated by all users involved and it will also attract more to participate :)
In any case, if you want to donate, simply stating it here is enough. When winners will be elected, RickDeckard may contact you via PM to let you know how much you should send and to which users.

Omg, it's good you stated that! For some reason I had a cake in my mind, although I knew that it's a pie baking contest. Okay, pie it will be :)

Like Gazeta correctly said, while your wife may be the one who bakes it I'm sure that you're helping her with the concept of designing or even washing the dishes after right? To my eyes that's a collaboration and thus it's still a valid participation from your side :)

Of course I wouldn't icopress and I thank you for even considering making this offer. As an individual you know that I don't gamble (for personal reasons) but I think that Betnomi offer will greatly add value to the contest and for sure it will entice even more users to share their creativity! If this offer still stands please let me know and I'll update the original post (and thank you once again).

It would be great if this contest appeared in the "News: ..." section in the header of the forum. The pumpkin contest for Halloween appeared there and attracted many people. On the contrary, I found this contest by chance a week ago and it is true that it's visibility is not the best. Can we raise a request to theymos in that regard, or does he only do these things ex officio?

I've messaged theymos in hopes of him seeing the message before the contest ends but, even if he doesn't, I'm glad that we're still far into the end of the contest and already have 3 solid entries (4 if we count the one from icopress).

What difference does it make if he posts the pie his wife made or if his wife uses his account to post the pie she made...or do you expect her to create a bitcointalk account just to enter this giveaway? I think it'd be a bit harsh to disqualify him if he and his wife entered together!

I think the real question is...do you feel threatened by his wife's cooking ability :P :P No shame, I do!

              • Pie must be made by yourself!!
Indeed, as stated before[1], the pie should be made by the user itself or, at the very least, help can exist but the resulting product has to have the contribution of the user posting it. We're looking for real and homemade pies from our users, and so far the submissions really do show care and dedication were put into them.

Sorry to have missed your post. I guess the error is on my end - I only now realized that the signature will only appear correctly in Hero/Legendary users due to restrictions in signatures[2] depending on the user class (I'll update OP). In your case the signature appears mismatched from the right one due to the fact that Sr. Members aren't able to use background colors in their signature space (which is something that the code uses). Sorry for that!

yes, and ICO would give her 30 merits !

I think the real question is...do you feel threatened by his wife's cooking ability :P :P No shame, I do!
              you know her ?  ::) ::)

you didn't prove you make the dough yourself ::)

              @Rick Deckard
Thank you very much for taking this initiative, we will benefit a lot in the future.

With this initiative, Bitcoin will continue to increase even after the end of Bitcoin mining.

Man, I also hope that this initiative will help attract more people to the contest!  ;)
Let's hope it does icopress! I've updated the original post with Betnomi sponsorship :) Once again, thank you both!

Of course, initiatives like this one from betnomi and icopress are also a big help ;D

This is so cool!!! I am totally in. It's funny you mention the "news" section, because that's exactly how I found this contest.

Edit: Change of plans due to IRL. Good thing we have until the 14th!

At first I made a cake, but in fact I realized I had to make a pie... This mistake led to two creations, because I didn't know if cakes are eliminatory in this international contest  :P

@OnZen: Did you just enter a pie baking contest with a digitally decorated store-bought cake? Hmm, are you fishing for merit, or trolling?

Pie must be made by yourself
That's a bummer. My wife would stand a chance, if I'd start baking I'd end up with something like this (https://i.pinimg.com/originals/3b/66/d6/3b66d6379a52e986bca018453850edd9.jpg) :P
Good luck to the people with more baking talent :D
Somehow I forgot to reply to this post of yours @LoyceV. Like I previously debated witihn some members[1], the rule regarding making yourself the pie exists for the purpose of preventing people simply go out into a store and buy them. If you do take part into the baking process alongside your wife - perhaps under her guidance? - the entry is still valid. Plus, it would be an awesome bonding moment I imagine! How about letting the kids decorate it? ;)

              Dear bitcointalkers,

At first I made a cake, but in fact I realized I had to make a pie... This mistake led to two creations, because I didn't know if cakes are eliminatory in this international contest  :P

In the news feed of the forum you will find a link to an extraordinary forum competition initiated by RickDeckard, a competition in which we were lucky enough to become sponsors.

              The rules are simple:

              - Bake a Bitcoin Pie
              - Post photos in this thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5439781.0).
              - Win a Betnomi Custom Wallet.

              https://i.imgur.com/hUZRhga.png
Thank you @betnomi.com (and @icopress) for spreading awareness for this community event! That's certainly a better banner than the one I currently have in the OP (my Paint skills are too limited in order to create such banners). If I may, can I use it to replace the current one?

So here's my entry. Have never baked any Pie before. This was my first time. Turned out great, but I wasn't able to get the crispy crust.
Here are the pictures of the process.

Thank you so much for your feedback.

I have invited everyone from my local community to join this contest. Hope they will join too. And it's an honor to be able to participate in this contest, I am grateful for that. I will try to invite more people to join this... It was a very fun experience!

I am so happy to join this contest even though I am doing this for the fun baking my own pie even though it may not look so good but I am happy as part of the first edition contestant for Bitcointalk pie backing contest. I am not so good in baking but joining this contest had enlightened me on some ingredients that are used in baking. I totally humbled myself so learn how to mix the flower with other ingredients to achieve this result. So happy I finally learnt how to back pie as a result of join this Bitcoin baking contest.

Still better than nothing I guess.

Are only proper "pies" allowed in the contest or are other cakes also permitted?

lol this is crazy dude 😂
I baked it myself although the face may looks like what you don't expect but you have to give me a kudos for this for the first time.
After bringing it from the oven, I decided to apply the icing sugar which is a mixture of colour(yellow), flower, and better to decorate the pie with the write-ups. I think it's due to the excess reflection of light that made it look like that.

Maybe you can take a sharp.look on this. Well baked although I could not smoothened the surface very well.

I'm baking an apple pie for this, but anyone out there wants to be creative and isn't so much a pastry baker, I'd think you could bend the rules a little and do a clever Pizza Pie in reference to Laszlo's famous 10,000BTC pizza  ;) Might not be a winner but I'd give that an honorable mention for creativity. And any Australians out there, let me see a meat pie!

Better to read the rules first, you're not allowed to participate this contest due to minimum merit requirement. Well it's up to everyone else to create which pie, it can be egg pie, apple pie, blueberry pie, meat pie etc. Meat pie is different with pizza, you can google it yourself.

If you want to celebrate about Laszlo Pizza day, that's a different contest, it would be happen in the next 2 months.

              Who can participate & vote?:

              • Users with 30 merit (airdrop merit won't count) and 30 activity.

Anyway the contest will end in the next 7 days, I hope people who want to join this contest aware with the deadline.

How about letting the kids decorate it? ;)
She says I'm too late :P Usually, she spend several days when she bakes a cake, and doesn't have that much time to spare before the deadline.
I did have an idea though: it should look like this: BTC, but big enough for 12 people :D

This pie is homemade by me and my cousin. To make this pie we need sugar, flour, oil, chocolate flavor, baking powder, milk powder, eggs and some other essentials. We had a lot of fun making this pie. And everyone celebrated with this pie after making it.

I am sorry to say this @Bushdark, but sadly your submission can't be accepted because your baking, while looking good, isn't a pie. Considering the interpretation that some members are having as to what a pie is (in some languages pie and cake are the same word), I've updated the OP with the definition of a pie, per Merriam-Webster:
              Code:
a: a dessert consisting of a filling (as of fruit or custard) in a pastry shell or topped with pastry or both
To accept your participation would mean that the system would be unfair to other suitable submissions that took the time to make a pie and it wouldn't make the system equal to all. Don't be discouraged though as there is still enough time for you to make another submission, if you do find the time for it :).

While it's hard to refrains myself from drooling while watching all these pics, I'd like to announce that I also translated OP in Romanian board: 🥧 Prima ediție – Concursul BitcoinTalk de Făcut Plăcinte 🥧 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5443813.0).
My friend, thank you so much for this translation! I've updated OP with your thread, sorry it took me so long.

Hey RickDeckard, I proudly announce that this is the first topic being translated pro bono (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5442314.msg61853233#msg61853233) in our respective local boards by our brand new Alliance Of Bitcointalk Translators [AOBT].

First of all congratulations on assembly such an OP team as far as translators go! And secondly, thank you so much for considering this contest the first project within your group! For sure language is one of barriers in any forum, and having a dedicated group of members trying to close the gap between all the communities that are present within this forum is an exchanging feat and a very noble one. Do keep up the great work!

She says I'm too late :P Usually, she spend several days when she bakes a cake, and doesn't have that much time to spare before the deadline.
I did have an idea though: it should look like this: BTC, but big enough for 12 people :D
Oh, that's a bummer but totally understandable. If this contest happens next year, do let your wife already know in advance that she will receive a call to arms as a redemption for not being able to take part this year in the competition :)

              Here is my Submission.
              Recipe:
              Flour ,Baking, Water

Thank you for your submission, unfortunately it doesn't comply with two requirements (while it does look tasty):
              • Requirement #1 - While you have enough activity, you lack the required merit amount - which is 30 - in order to participate in the event;
              • Requirement #2 - Sadly the submission can't be classified as a pie. Please refer to OP to see the definition of what a pie is.

              A wonderful contest.

This pie is homemade by me and my cousin. To make this pie we need sugar, flour, oil, chocolate flavor, baking powder, milk powder, eggs and some other essentials. We had a lot of fun making this pie. And everyone celebrated with this pie after making it.
              (...)
I am sorry (again) for saying this, but in order for the contest to be fair for everyone, your submission can't be accepted because that is not a pie but a cake. Fellow Becassine also did that mistake[1] but she turned things up around and also made a pie and ended with two incredible looking deserts. Don't give up, you still got time to make your submission!

Because (at least in french) a pie is a cake but a cake is not always a pie, some pictures to help (in good english maybe : what does a pie look like ?):

I baked the pie before fully reading the rules about merit (only 29 merit points away from hitting the 30 minimum to qualify!), so I understand that I'm not eligible, but still had to post since I spent hours on this (despite what it looks like) :D

I used fondant letter cutters to cut out the letters of BITCOIN in place of the top pie crust, and I put my username in there to prove it's mine (Nioctib is Bitcoin backwards). I gotta say, I think it looked better in my head vs. how it turned out. Still the best apple pie I've ever cooked... of course it's also the only apple pie I've ever cooked  ;)

WTF I made a pie and wanted to participate but I found that I have 0 merit and 12 activity !!!! (((( These limits are strange and its not fair

Cheer up, the true reward is the pie itself and the fun you had while making it.

Also, if you actually made it, you could've just posted the photos anyway, maybe someone would reward you with some merit points for the effort. Sounds better than complaining.

I am also in, will submit something by the end of this week. During covid, in the middle of the lockdown, I started baking pies, cakes and bread every sunday just to keep busy but I also started enjoying it. Nothing more fun to also enjoy your "creation" with friends and family. When everything opened up again, I stopped doing this, but this contest could be nice restarting point again.

The first time I made a cake by mistake.  But I try again to create a bitcoin pie.  Hopefully this time I can make a bitcoin pie.

              (...)
If I were you @nioctib_100, I would surely do my best to try to contribute to the form in an organic way so that you're able to gather the required number of merits. Ever since that you've made this post you're just 18 merits away for your submission to be considered for this contest. From my perspective, it would be a shame for such a good looking pie - and with a nice twist for the decoration - to miss this contest! You've still got some time until the end to meet the requirements ;).

              Happy Bitcoin Pie Day

              (...)
Thank you for your submission Popkon6! I've added your submission to the list.

Thank you for the submission Patrol69! Will also add it to the list for the next phase.

Thank you! I've also added it to the list!

              (...)
Sadly your submission can't be accepted since what you did, while looking good, isn't a pie. Please refer to either to OP where you can find the definition of a pie or see Becassine visual post about it[1]. I'm sorry for this, I still hope that you've enjoyed the cake!

Thank you for your submission, unfortunately it doesn't comply with two requirements (while it does look tasty):
              • Requirement #1 - While you have enough activity, you lack the required merit amount - which is 30 - in order to participate in the event;
              • Requirement #2 - Sadly the submission can't be classified as a pie. Please refer to OP to see the definition of what a pie is.

I participated in the contest after seeing your rules.  I know it takes 30 merits to participate.  My goal is not to win.  I have made an entry in the contest.  I'm so happy to see so many more feeds.  I have gained a lot of experience in this. I have entered to gain experience so that it is easier to enter any such contest in the future.  Thank you for organizing such a beautiful event.  I look forward to such events in the future.

              Dear bitcointalkers,

At first I made a cake, but in fact I realized I had to make a pie... This mistake led to two creations, because I didn't know if cakes are eliminatory in this international contest  :P

I hope I'm not too late to the party. I would have submitted earlier, but I was unable to obtain the necessary ingredients for my Egg Pie.

This is when I took the pie out of the oven. Because my electric oven was broken, I had to use a coal oven, and the baking was completed at midnight.

              https://i.ibb.co/0B0rZ8s/IMG-20230309-005912-607.jpg

Because I had no baking skills, decorating it with icing sugar for cakes would have been a nightmare for me. So I went with some carving designs. I attempted to carve out the Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB, and Litecoin logos before making a paper art chair. Here they are:

              https://i.ibb.co/zZNStfw/IMG-20230309-151907-916.jpg

I wanted to make something that showed Bitcoin sitting on his throne while other altcoins such as Ethereum, BNB, and Litecoin bowed down to him. This indicates that bitcoin is the most valuable cryptocurrency in the entire crypto ecosystem.

              https://i.ibb.co/2NpQbcp/IMG-20230309-150529-674.jpg

I don't think there'll be any need for me to tell you what happened to the pie after that, so I'll just let the next image do the talking. ;D

And it was my second try because the first one got burnt while baking. Anyway Happy PIE Festival everyone. And good luck to all you guys

I just want to tell every participant that, can you guys resize your images while submitting? It's hard to see the full image even in my computer screen, and it's also taking away half of the page. It's your choice what you want to do, but it would look good if you guys can just organize your images a little bit. Not trying to offend anyone, just my personal thoughts. External links could be also added in the images for better view.

Here's my Submission for the 🥧 1st edition - Bitcointalk Pie Baking Contest 🥧. the pie I made is called "Egg pie" it's quite a popular dessert here in the Philippines and is also one of my favorite desserts.

making this pie for the first time is quite the experience, I mean I have no idea if the dough I made would hold the fillings after cooking or if the fillings I made would set up enough and won't be watery. in the end, I'm glad everything went fine and was quite proud of the first pie I made. although the top part of the pie is a little burnt, I must say that the slight bitterness of it perfectly complimented the creaminess and sweetness of the fillings I made so I am happy about it.

EDIT: I completely forgot to add a photo with my username and date yesterday, I added one today, I hope it still counts.

preparation time, kneading the dough is quite a work and flatting the dough was quite hard, it kept sticking on the rolling pin resulting in it getting ripped.

cooking time, sorry if the oven is dirty.

presentation, cutting and eating time. if you guys noticed, I tried copying the logo of the Pie contest as a tribute ahaha.

So many enthusiastic participants in this contest, I am happy to be part of the participants and submit a Pie cake contest.  ;)

Because my signature space is empty, I use the Pie + avatar signature code that I made with Pie myself.  :D

              Bitcoin pie Baking Contest 🥧BTC
              My 1st time pie submission!

              (...)
Thank you for the submission. Do note that you still haven't got the required merit amount in order for your submission to be considered, but you still got enough time to reach the required amount, don't give up! If you do make it by the time the 1st phase ends, I'll add your submission to the list.

Submission of Pie Baking from ajiz138

              Pie crust:
              1. Wheat flour
              2. Margarine
              3. Eggs
              4. Chocolate powder
              5. Powdered sugar

              Toppings:
              1. Cheddar Cheese
              2. Choco chips
              3. Nuts
              4. Orange
              (...)
Nice pie! I'll add it to the list :).

I tried my best to prepare.
              my work submission.

              (...)

Sadly I'll have to clarify that two requirements are not being met:
              • Requirement #1 - While you have enough activity, you lack the required merit amount - which is 30 - in order to participate in the event;
              • Requirement #2 - Sadly the submission can't be classified as a pie. Please refer to OP to see the definition of what a pie is.

I hope I'm not too late to the party. I would have submitted earlier, but I was unable to obtain the necessary ingredients for my Egg Pie.

This is when I took the pie out of the oven. Because my electric oven was broken, I had to use a coal oven, and the baking was completed at midnight.

              (...)

Nice touch with BTC overlooking all the other coins @Cantsay! I've also added the entry to the list!

This is my first home-making pie, I never made and eaten "pie" before this is the first time making and the first time eating. The test was not too bad. And it was my second try because the first one got burnt while baking. Anyway Happy PIE Festival everyone. And good luck to all you guys

I might be wrong on this one, but for sure your entry will be the only one that was made using a power drill :D. And it still came out quite remarkable, so congratulations! Added to the list!

This is my apple pie submission for the contest.
I don't know if the photos can reflect how delicious it looks but it turned out much nicer than I thought.
              Good luck to all participants.

I'm glad that you've managed to find the time to take part in this contest EFS. The decal of the BTC symbol is really spot on! Plus the filling looks delicious! I hope that it tasted as good as it looks! Added to the list!

Thank you for starting this beautiful event. I wanted to participate in the event and have a good memory.

I did my best for the Bitcointalk family. It is delicious :)

              Hello,

Because I like to learn and I made the mistake first.

Definition of a pie (french Larousse). (https://www.larousse.fr/dictionnaires/francais/tarte/76781#:~:text=Pr%C3%A9paration%20faite%20d'une%20abaisse,Coup%20de%20poing%2C%20gifle (https://www.larousse.fr/dictionnaires/francais/tarte/76781#:~:text=Pr%C3%A9paration%20faite%20d'une%20abaisse,Coup%20de%20poing%2C%20gifle)).

              Quote
tarte. nom féminin. (variante de tourte, peut-être sous l'influence du latin médiéval tartarum, crème de tartre)

              1. Préparation faite d'une abaisse de pâte garnie d'un appareil salé ou sucré et cuite dans un moule.
              2. Populaire. Coup de poing, gifle.

              English (deepl  ;D) :

              1. Preparation made from a sheet of dough filled with a savory or sweet mixture and baked in a mold.
              2. Popular. Punch, slap.

              Collins (https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/pie) :

              Quote
A pie consists of meat, vegetables, or fruit baked in pastry.

Difference between pie and cake :

              Quote

              Quote
A pie is a pastry base (shortbread, shortcrust or puff pastry) on which fruit or other ingredients (such as chocolate) can be placed. The cake is a preparation that is made in one go. The pie does not swell (no yeast) unlike the cake.

              Voilà voilà  :)

ps : sorry for the ugly links, don't remember how to make it proper

The question is : can the irish sheperd's pie be entered in the contest ???? (looks like the french hachis parmentier).

Great work guys... and Gals! ..... I am so hungry now, I might consider eating a whole bakery.  ;D ;D ;D

I think we should also have a contest like this on Pizza Day.... where we then make pizzas for the competition. You never know, even Lazlo might join and offer us 1000 bitcoins for the best pizza.  8)

Enjoy the baking..... I am loving it.

              Placeholder.

Making a cake this weekend and updating here then. Don't expect much though, we are baking amateurs  ;D

Oh shoot, a pie is different than a cake? Ok we eat the cake now and make a pie ( in German it's basically the same ) , need some more days then, hahaha.

After making a cake some weeks ago because I didn't know there is a difference we did the deed today.

Here is our Aomori Apple Pie. It took a while as we thought to make it Sakura themed (because sakura season is starting now in Japan) but as it still takes some weeks we chose to make a simple apple pie.

I hope you like it, even though the BTC got a little dark.  ;D

              Hello friends.

The cake I sent for the contest called "King Bitcoin".

I did not use artificial substances, everything is natural. It has orange and cherry sauce. Both grow in my garden. The taste was great. I will say bon appetit to my friends on the forum, but you are all far away. :)

My own definition of pie and how I have always seen pie being made and presented to me on several occasions,  I hope my home made and first time baking meet the requirements for this context.

-Goodluck everyone and hope we all improve in our baking skills and prepare more for future baking context.

As I did for our recent pumpkin carving contest, I'll also distribute some Merit after all submissions have been made.
It's very nice to see so many participants have put in a significant effort to make a good pie.

Best luck to all participants.  :)

Do we already know more details about voting process?
Would be nice to vote for multiple participants because we have so many interesting submissions.  :)

Oh Wow. A lot of Delicious Pie has already been made.
This was the first time I tried to bake a pie. I am the worst at decorating/designing something. My Egg-milk pie doesn't look good, but it tests the best. Unfortunately, I can't invite all of you guys to take a bite  ;D. I can't compete with others. But, never mind. Just for fun.

              Here is my submission:

              Recipe:
All-purpose flour, sugar, salt, butter, Condensk Milk, 8 Big Eggs.
As I said, I am the worst at designing something. The topping was Toast powder and Souce.

Beautiful Pie puloweh555! you have to have a very good hand to write all those details.

I finished mine yesterday, but it was very late so that's why I'm posting it today.

              Bitcoin Pumpkin Pie:

It was a beautiful experience: in Spain pies are not typical at all (unlike cakes), so this is the first pie I've ever baked, but not the last one. Let's meet again next year!

Edit: you can see a few more photos (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5440295.msg61898410#msg61898410) in the Spanish board.

I am so ready for this contest. :)

I am very happy to see events like this, I was very excited from yesterday. To make this milk pie you have to have BTC, the chocolate sweetened condensed milk doesn't really show the writing.

the joy, satisfaction and happiness that I feel, thank you OP and contributors involved in this thread, you inspire me that bitcoin is art and the community has a lot of interesting things that are fun, discussions become more interesting and I think it is entertainment in challenges.

today I just want to share that this is the first time I have forced myself to make a cake like this, armed with a YouTube tutorial.

my family makes fun of me and they laugh at me, but it doesn't feel so bad. and when they tried it they really liked it. hihihi

              this mission makes me happy

I am very tempted to enter this competition, but I think I have to focus on my priorities and stick to pizza making.
Bakery is an extremely difficult process, so I think an extra value would be for those who took pictures in the making of the process!

Good luck for all the participants, and maybe I will take part in the second edition!

              • 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar
              • 2 tablespoons of Butter

              • liquid vanilla

              I named this pie
              SAD PIE
Because right before making this pie I parted ways with my girlfriend. :'(
              Hope you like it

Sorry sir, a few hours after I finished making the pie and I took the photo, I forgot to attach the date, and when I wanted to post my pie, I just remembered that I had to include the date, and the pie I made was distributed to my family and sold out eat by them. I hope I can cover my forget.

May your day always be lucky ;)
              #Greetings bangjoe

You missed the point a little bit.

First of all it's a cake and no pie  ;) . Also it should somehow be bitcoin related.  ;D

              Also the rules state:

              "Who can participate & vote?:

Users with 30 merit (airdrop merit won't count) and 30 activity."

I prepared a cake consisting of cocoa sponge cake, mascarpone cream, cream and cappuccino syrup ... and a secret ingredient which, according to our local tradition, is handed down only from parents to children only few moments before dying ;D ;D ;D.
The inside of the bitcoin symbol has been decorated with orange marmalade.
The cream decoration containing the BTC simbol has the shape of a comic strip balloon to pay tribute to this forum.

I hope you like it, even though the BTC got a little dark.  ;D
              (...)
That cutout of the Bitcoin symbol must have been quite challenging did it not? Thank you for your submission @AHOYBRAUSE, I'll add it to the list.

              Hello friends.

The cake I sent for the contest called "King Bitcoin".

I did not use artificial substances, everything is natural. It has orange and cherry sauce. Both grow in my garden. The taste was great. I will say bon appetit to my friends on the forum, but you are all far away. :)
              (...)
It looks delicious, specially considering the fact that you got most of the ingredients from your garden, I guess it's almost a 100 % biological pie (exempt for the pastry dough  I guess). Thank you, I'll also add it to the list!

My own definition of pie and how I have always seen pie being made and presented to me on several occasions,  I hope my home made and first time baking meet the requirements for this context.

-Goodluck everyone and hope we all improve in our baking skills and prepare more for future baking context.
              (...)
I'm sorry, we can't consider the entry as valid as that wouldn't be fair for other contestants. If everyone decided to submit their own interpretaion of what a pie really is then the evaluation would also be very subjective. However, you still got time to make a pie as according to it's definition in the OP :).

Do we already know more details about voting process?
Would be nice to vote for multiple participants because we have so many interesting submissions.  :)
We do have details about the voting process @1miau, per the OP:
              Quote
              • 2nd Phase - Voting process from 15th of March to 29th of March (23:59:59 GMT). Winner shall be announced on the 31th of March.
                • During this phase, users are only able to vote in 1 entry from the 1st Phase, but are free to edit their vote until the 2nd phase ends.
When we first discussed the voting phase on the previous thread[1] we were focused on trying to balance the voting time and the contest popularity (I'll be honest with you and say that I didn't hope for the contest to have this kind of acceptance, I'm really glad it did!). The single vote rule was made so that users were really aware that their vote mattered so they would really need to think about who deserves it. Having >1 kinda makes a user "relax" their constrains that make then evaluate each post because they know they are able to vote in more than one. What do you think of this thinking process? Is it fair? Too harsh perhaps?

              (...)
I wouldn't say you're the worst, the pie actually looks good, congratulations ! Don't be so hard on yourself, I'm sure you did pretty great. I've added it to the list!

              Cool contest.
I am very happy to be able to participate in the Pie Cake Contest. it took me about 2-3 hours to complete it.
              (...)
I'm baffled at the fact that you were able to basically write so perfectly within your pie puloweh555! That's a sick design you've got there, congratulations! I'll add it to the list!

Beautiful Pie puloweh555! you have to have a very good hand to write all those details.

I finished mine yesterday, but it was very late so that's why I'm posting it today.

Very nice looking pie Porfirii! At first I though that it was carrot filling but then I found out it was pumpkin (I hope I understood correctly your Spanish!). I'll add it to the list as well.

I'm very happy to see an event like this, I'm so excited from yesterday. Making this milk pie should have a BTC, chocolate sweetened condensed milk isn't too visible to write.

joy, satisfaction and happiness is what I feel, thank you OP and the contributors involved in this thread, you inspire me that bitcoin is art and the community has lots of interesting things that are fun, discussions are getting more interesting and I think this is entertainment in a challenge.

one day maybe I can join other events, if merit income is prioritized.

today I just want to share that this is the first time I have forced myself to make a cake like this, armed with a YouTube tutorial.

my family gives me satire and they laugh at me, but it doesn't feel too bad. and when they try it they quite like it. hihihi

              this mission makes me happy
              (...)
Banana pie is always a good pie! I'll also add it to the list.

I am very tempted to enter this competition, but I think I have to focus on my priorities and stick to pizza making.

Good luck for all the participants, and maybe I will take part in the second edition!

As someone who is also a pizza maker (sadly I wasn't around when the contest aired) for sure if you're able to make a good looking pizza you'll also be able to make a good looking pie! While you'll be more than welcome to appear in the 2nd edition, I still have some hope that you'll submit in this 1st edition :).

hello RickDeckard I would like to submit an entry.

Tools and materials: Pie mold, dough ingredients (pie skin, 150 gr butter margarine, 35 gr powdered sugar, 3 eggs, vanilla essence

Time required: Buy dough ingredients from home to shop (mileage 3 hours+). Make the dough until it's finished 7 hours+ (because I made it the first time  ;D, it failed 3 times and the last one is like the picture below).

It breaks me to say this, but sadly we can't accept both submissions since they are not considered pies :(. They look delicious but it wouldn't be fair for the remaining participants to accept submissions that aren't pie related, thus we won't be able to accept the submissions. Don't feel discouraged as you still got time to participate! I do hope that the cakes were delicious (they do seem like it!). Here's some guidance as what a pie is[2] - I also have the definition in the OP.

Thank you everyone for the amazing submissions we've received so far (and for the ones I'm sure we'll still receive!). For anyone reading you still have, per the time of this post, roughly 2 days to submit your creation! Don't feel discouraged as you'll always end up with a pie to eat after taking a picture of it :).

              Baking
              Milky
              Fruits(Staubery, Apple, Banana)
              Sugar

I baked the pie before fully reading the rules about merit (only 29 merit points away from hitting the 30 minimum to qualify!), so I understand that I'm not eligible, but still had to post since I spent hours on this

Thank you all for the merit! Perhaps I'm eligible now? I had only a single merit point when I submitted, but my pie submission back on page 5 has had a few merit awards. If this makes me eligible now, I'd love to be included in the submission list on the first page.

We, my wife and I, decided to make a traditional Ukrainian cabbage pie.

              Here's the process:

First, you have to braise cabbage with prunes for 2 hours

              https://i.imgur.com/Zi2kjI4.jpg https://i.imgur.com/rgvIkX1.jpg

adding bay leaves, black pepper, salt and a bit of oil. It will be the filling of the pie.

Then, out of dough made from flour, butter, sour cream and a bit of salt and sugar, you make this thing(my wife made it, I made the braised cabbage) and put the filling in.

              https://i.imgur.com/qMHCa2x.jpg https://i.imgur.com/xxAEYBM.jpg

Grease with egg yolk, and then cook in the oven for 40 minutes.
              Take this beautiful creature out

A traditional Ukrainian cabbage pie is ready.

But if you are participating in the 🥧 1st edition - Bitcointalk Pie Baking Contest 🥧, make a Bitcoin symbol out of black sesame seeds, and put the pie back in the oven for a bit more.

Voilà! Here it is, our submission to the contest

              https://i.imgur.com/aDP5KUb.jpg

Then we went to visit our friends and took the pie with us.

All four of us were satisfied with the taste. :)

              [1]https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5439781.msg61864890#msg61864890 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5439781.msg61864890#msg61864890)
The first time I made a cake by mistake.  But I try again to create a bitcoin pie.  Hopefully this time I can make a bitcoin pie.

I made another bitcoin pie. Can I submit this bitcoin pie again?

I finally finished my pie and was able to participate in the Bitcointalk Pie Baking Contest.
Looking at the many entries and the good and delicious-looking pies, I was quite hesitant to showcase mine.

But, the real goal is not about who is better and more delicious.
I was more judging the process of making the pie which was certainly an unforgettable moment.

Making a baked pie with the help of my niece and wife seems very memorable.
With many processes carried out and occasionally I explain what bitcoin is to my nephew and what the purpose is to make this pie.
Also explaining whether bitcoin is valuable or not and the future of bitcoin. Like elementary school children in general, there are many questions and as much as possible I answer very briefly and simply.

And this is the result of our family creation, Baked Pandan Pie with Bitcoin Symbols, and of course it is very sweet and delicious,
even though it doesn't look as good as the others, this pie is made with heart.

To be honest, it's not an easy thing to make pie, especially since this is my first experience making pie (when creating a bitcoin logo, many of my attempts failed), here are the results of the egg pie that I made (this is my third try and I'm quite satisfied with how it looks).

Here I am with my second try, my bad I didn't pay attention to the difference between pie and cake and therefore my glycemic index will pay the consequences  :D.

The pie consists of shortcrust pastry filled with strawberries and sugar (previously caramelised) and decorated with icing sugar, strawberry juice and chopped strawberries.

This was very much a joint effort, and I wouldn't have been able to make something like this if it weren't for my lovely wife!

I was responsible for the outside of the pie (so, the pie crust and the Bitcoin symbol) and my beautimous was responsible for the inside (so, the marshmallow layer, the chocolate with whiskey layer, and the whipped cream layer). Naturally, I put myself in charge of selecting the right whiskey, which required me to sample most every bottle I could find. ;)

Although this took much more effort than I had planned on, problem solving with my wife was great fun, and we're both pretty proud of how it turned out!

woww, your wife is very talented, this is the pie with the most beautiful bitcoin logo i have ever seen, it is perfect, i wonder if the logo can be eaten?
Yup, it can be eaten; it's a sugar cookie. I sliced the dough with a small knife and a home-made stencil. It took about 8 attempts before finally baking one that I was happy with. My wife had the idea to brush it with apricot jelly/jam and put it back in the oven to get some nice color on it. There was a small mishap in the kitchen and my favorite one was dropped/damaged, so we had to use my second favorite one instead. :)

It is for your creative pleasure to make pies with your own hands. I saw so many enthusiastic people celebrating this, including myself being a participant.   ;D

I tried to make a list with photos so we can see all the creations in your pies from this contest and in reference to the table The pumpkin carving contest (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5419254.0) organized by "ChiBitCTy".

Why not? Maybe we could have some cooking contests in the future, we could even invite Gordon Ramsay to cuss at participants nonstop. Like the pie idea though for obvious reasons I can't see the images, these stupid bans/ filtering.

Haven't seen them but I'm already hungry, lol.

Some days ago above the menu bar I noticed NEWS: Pie baking contest. Usually I see Bitcoin Core news and then I got intrigued. When I saw a lot of good images, I decided to give it a try, why not? My baking abilities are limited to fitness related staff but this one was actually fun.
I'm late to da party but still here am I with my pie:
Definitely, click on the image for better quality and higher resolution.

Although I'm at the eleventh hour but happy to include myself in this pie baking contest on the Bitcoin Talk forum. I would like to thank all the forum community and special thanks to rickdeckard for organizing such an event. This competition brings joy and excitement. The pie tastes really very good. But I can say that I did quite a bad job about the adornment. I hope that I can join you with a much more beautiful pie next year.  :D

              Ingredients:

I don't usually take part in such contests, especially as cooking/baking isn't something I usually spend much time on. But the past week has been pretty hard for me, so take it as a thank-you to the Bitcoin community.

Although it looks more yellow than orange (especially in the pictures), this is an orange pie, for the obvious reason that it's Bitcoin's color. I had never tried making two-layer pies, but it turned out to be a successful experiment!

              Alright, now, the photos!          https://i.imgur.com/WedwGkd.jpg

There's no point elaborating on the dough. It was a new recipe as well, I yet have to master it. That's not too bad tho. Then the first layer is almond + orange.

The second one is an orange cream.

I tried to do the Bitcoin logo in white chocolate. I clearly don't have the skills for that, that was a bit difficult.
I also wanted to add more chocolate symbols but I didn't turn out the way I wanted so I just made chocolate shavings.

It's pretty late so I just tasted a very small slice, but the taste is great!

Submission phase has officially ended as of now. I'll update in minute with new information.

EDIT: Thank you everyone for the dazzling submissions! After some formatting issues, the thread for the voting phase has is open! (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5444932.0). Vote on your favourite pie - provided you meet the requirements - until 29/03/2023!
I'll also proceed to make a minor update to the signature banner so that it reads something along the lines of "Cast your vote until 29/03"... Anyone running it is free to use it of course.

              EDIT #2:
Currently, Bitcointalk Pie Baking contest will end in view of the countdown at the time of writing there is still about 13 hours left from now.

              (...)
I totally missed your post while I was busy trying to open the voting phase. Since the process of creating the pie is interesting, I thought that it would be interesting to display some pictures of the process that was made in order to reach the final "look", hence the three photo display for each submission (most of them, when available). If, however, the community decides that a more straighforward and to the point submission grid is more useful to overlook all the submissions without scrolling (and "leave" the pictures about the process itself), I'll update the OP of the voting phase. Thank you so much for the effort salad daging!

I made a video of making this pie with duration of about 2 hours. if necessarry, i will give the link of youtube/drive to make sure that i made it by my self.

For first reason, some people debating about how to prove that  what does the pie baked by her/him self ?
second reason, Since I see that my previous post shows last edit, i do not want to distrub its timestamp.

Soo, Here is the link of the making process of the pie to prove that i made this pie by myself

As the charity auction has ended that I've supported it through wearing its signature and avatar and I've got no signature to wear for now, I'll wear the signature in support of this pie baking contest of the forum. This is gonna be a long read for me to look to all of those yummy pies.
Good luck everyone and congrats Rick for organizing this contest, the feedback is overwhelming and it's very successful.

although not involved in the competition but I really look forward to the winner.  Judging from the photos they sent I'm sure it will make it difficult to say the winner because everything is beautiful and looks good.  good luck to the participants.
