Title: what does your username mean and where did the idea come from?
Post by: cygan on March 06, 2023, 03:37:19 PM
just over 2 years ago, i also asked these questions in the german subforum and created a thread for this topic.
was bedeutet euer nick und woher die idee? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5303568.0)
since this topic was so well received there, i would now like to spread it to the entire forum and also look forward to your stories/explanations/ideas regarding your usernames.

and since i have created the thread here, i also start right away and would like to explain my nickname to you now :)
since my mothertongue is polish, and i always wanted to have this nick, the choice for me was very easy and quickly completed
because 'cygan' means in english translated 'gypsy' ;D
but in real life i am a very normal contemporary :)

I'm sorry if I'm going to spoil the fun, but I remembered that we had a similar topic a couple of years ago, so some have already answered the question you're asking. In any case, the topic is interesting to read, although not too many members decided to share their stories about how they chose their usernames on the forum.

How did you chosen ₿itcointalk username at the beginning of registrations? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5199525.0)

About how i got to discover why choosing the username which i bear on the forum, the name Aanuoluwatofunmi is my local dialect name which means "the mercy of God is sufficient for me" i chose that because when i looked at my entire life, i see nothing but the grace and sufficiency of God's mercy on me to have attaining the height am unto, back to this thread creation, @Lucius, you have given an important advise on the existing thread with same purpose but i considers it an old thread and will encourage if it can be bumped up then this recent one be locked by OP.

Nice one, OP. At the time I was making my entry into this forum after observing it for a few days, I thought of something that would be remarkable to me. What came to mind for me was to use the name of the environment where I lived and that was how Mpamaegbu was birthed. Basically, it was the name of where I lived. I've grown on that username to the point that I now have a type of sentimental attachment to it.

Then if the topic already exists there's no need repeating it again otherwise I will suggest for the lock of this thread to avoid repeating what is in the other thread over here.
Anyway thanks for sharing, @op what do you think of what lucius just said?

As far as I know, my name has no meaning at all. I even googled it and couldn't find anything.

So, when I create account on forums (or anywhere else for that matter) I usually use name that means something for me. In most cases its character from movies/books I like so I tried today do the same here. Unfortunately all the names I wanted to use were already taken and after like 20-30 minutes of trying to find something that wasn't taken, I got bored, went to a random name generator and Rikafip was born.

Actually, mine came from a movie called "The Hate You Give". The movie is really interesting and it focuses on racism, police brutality and activism. The major cast is a sixteen years old girl called starr cater and she has two other siblings seven and sokani. Sokani simply means joy, I just love the name, the way it sounds and the meaning and when I was signing up here I decided to use it.

because 'cygan' means in english translated 'gypsy' ;D

Maybe you would have also told us what "gypsy" means, for those of us that might not know the meaning, and also might be lazy to search it on google  ;D.

Anyways, like Lucius said, this topic have been discussed before, and I think he also referenced the link to the previous topic, I remember stating that I was musician, and the nickname "Fivestar" was my stage name.
But I later gave up singing due to lack of fund, but I decided to keep using my stage name, but after I discovered that another company(a new hotel in town) got opened with the name "Fivestar Hotel", I decided to add "4ever" to mine, which turned it to "Fivestar4ever", MVP simply mean " Most Valuable Personnel", An abbreviation I decided to add to my username while registering on this forum.

Oh no Cygan, don't you think this is some mere trifle and shouldn't have been awaken in this period?? Or atleast for the fact that it's been repeated almost simultaneously?? ...ain't tryna dissociate from the topic sentence but I think I saw something like this a couple of weeks ago, is that even true? I guess so.
Well, when I got registered in here, I thought it'll need proper and authentic details and credentials so I added my name; Sandra isn't my official name, but it's what I'm commonly addressed as. Some would quickly scorn at people's opinion; You don't have to anything in here, anyone could claim to be someone else.....and so, from a movie line, I got the name "Hakeem" to the conjunction of the whole brand you see today...lol

I already made explanation in similar topic in past, so, I'm not going to repeat and I'll just quote my old post:
Interesting question. When I joined Bitcointalk, I was struggling to choose my username. I wanted to have cool username which would be easy to remember. But I didn't wanted to use my nickname which I use on other forums, because I wanted some privacy and I wanted to separate my crypto activities from my other hobbies.
I decided to use "LTU", what is abbrevation of my country Lithuania. I wanted to show that there is some crypto enthusiasts from my country. And then I just added "btc" to my nickname. But some people here call me just LTU. I don't use this username anywhere else, except few other crypto forums.
But if I would sign up on Bitcointalk now, I'm not sure that I would pick same nickname.

About your name, I knew what cygan means, but I always thought that there should be some other meaning and you didn't called yourself gypsy :D.

Even if the topic is repeated, it is actually interesting, in addition, there may be many who did not see the old topic (I am one of them).

My name used in the forum is almost my real name but it is written in English, when it is written in English it does not make any sense but in my local language it means "to live long".

My 1st post here March 13, 2014 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=304605.msg5687097#msg5687097) says it all...
After starting Feb of that year with 2x BFL Jalapeno's I was hooked and looking for a bigger miner came across a 520GHs one from AMT that was the Authorized 'Made in USA" clone of the Coincraft miner from the Swiss company Bitmine.ch. Price: $4,089
Short version: as with the BFL Monarchs - major delays and pissed customers. Almost 8 month delay and I along with literally a handful of others did eventually get our miners, in my case a 1TH one for services rendered doing forensics on the crappy, incredibly poorly designed, early versions of the AMT/Bitmine boards.

A few years ago I lost a close and trusted friend. He died at a very young age and his wife was pregnant with his first child. The most painful part of his death for me was that my friend has so many good dreams and aspirations not only for himself and his family but for our community. And he was also highly gifted and talented in his field. His selflessness and humility made the community cherish and love him.

After his death, I was pained and confused that how will God give someone so many gifts and talents and let him die without using them to bless himself and humanity. My friend died filled with great potential and talent. But I don't want to die full, that's why I chose the user name Die_empty.

Though I've seen a few times that people think I'm affiliated with ColdCard, I got mk4 (Mark 4) from one of Iron Man's armor designs. I'm not a super fan of Iron Man and Marvel in general, but I like the short name and I like how it sounds lol.

I've always been a fan of EDM music and I thought that it would be interesting if I have my username that relates to Joel Thomas Zimmerman aka Deadmau5. He is also some kind of nerd when it comes to computer which I find very fascinating aside from him being a music Disc Jockey (DJ) and a music enthusiast.

After reading your post the word "Mark 4" made me recall the war stories my father use to tell me and my elder brother. My father was a rebel soldier during a civil war in my country that lasted for three years. He talked about a powerful machine gun called Mark 4 and as a kid really wanted to see the gun because my father talked about its functionality and power. I have never thought about googling about the gun because I have never remembered. I am glad you reminded me today I saw the picture and I took the time to read about the gun. It was indeed a wonder of its time, easy to use, clean, and maintain, yet very functional.

unfortunately, i somehow could not find the earlier thread on the same topic that you guys have already mentioned here and will now close it again.
nonetheless, i found your explanations of your usernames very interesting and hope that the other thread will now find more popularity and not fall into oblivion :)
