Title: Hal Finney RUNNING BITCOIN- What was Bitcointalk contribution? $65k raised!
Post by: borovichok on March 13, 2023, 08:21:33 PM

Hal, or the Bitcoin icon as we all know him, made significant contributions to the Bitcoin community and is regarded as Satoshi by some Bitcoiners due to his involvement in Bitcoin development. He was diagnosed with ALS in 2009, fought it, and died in 2014. To honor one of the most valuable bitcoin assets, Fran Finney, the wife of Hal Finneey, launched a campaign called "RUNNING BITCOIN," which was a half marathon event to raise funds for ALS research. ENDED

That being said, I'm not sure how many Bitcointalk members participated in the event; I did (you can see me in the gallery), and since I didn't see any posts about it, I thought it would be best to bring it up and thank those who did.  Hal legacy will live for ever.

That's one way to celebrate the legend Hal, and hopefully is the first of many of such events.

You would likely not get users send in their personal pictures in a privacy inclined forum. I would advice you don't include yours either.

This thread fits better in the Reputation board, you can move it using the 'move topic' option at the bottom left of this page.

Thanks. Don't worry about my privacy. I'm sure no one can tell who I am in those pictures, and yes, you are correct, anyone can send me pictures via PM (covering their faces) and I will upload them here; it was a fun experience.

I'd argue against placing this in the Reputation board as it has become more of a place where Bitcointalk.org members can "take other members or services to court". So it's more like a courtroom, and obviously has nothing to do with Hal's reputation (which is untouchable at this point).

Excuse me!

I am a runner too and I saw a picture with a Garmin watch and  a screen with Bitcoin Runners text. How does the text appear on Garmin screen? I don't know how it can appear like this?

Sorry for this dumb question. I did not play with my Garmin watch too much.

Great activities to remember Hal Finney.

He is in cryo, technically dead (r.i.p) but there is some rays of hope to bring him back in the future.

I never thought of moving the greatest HAL FINNEY reputation to that courthall; I intended it to be on the Meta, but the admin said no, so he moved it here. The reputation board is now more of a query server where all the arguments over who deserves who or who cares about who take place.

Thanks to everyone who participated and donated to this amazing research to find ALS cures and therapies, safeguard the future, and stop us from losing another bitcoin guru in the future, the donation was successful and exceeded the initial objective. All for Finney

I just saw this event that was made, I just want to know what is the theme of this event. Too bad if that country is close to my country I will participate there for sure because I am also a runner and I love such events.

And I hope that the funds collected here will be used for the betterment of the purpose of the Bitcoin community and will be a good example for other Bitcoin communities in different parts of the world. Good job and keep up the good work dude.

Hal Finney was fortunate to have a good woman as a wife. Fran was an uncommon wife that stood for Hai until he died. She took care of him even when his health became very serious making him handicapped in some areas. She still believes that one day through scientific advancement he can come back to life that's why his body went through a state of cryonic freezing. Fran keeps on immobilizing her late husband with these events. I wish more of such fundraising events will be organized to promote research in other areas of health concern. Fran keeps reminding me that the world's standard of judging beauty is flawed. Good character and not physical appearance is true beauty.

Thanks for posting those pictures.  I had heard of this event beforehand but didn't hear anything afterwards so it's great to see that it was a success and so many happy people are raising money for a cause that Hal Finney cared about.  It's cool to know that there were some bitcointalk runners out there supporting the cause and representing for our little hobbyist corner of the internet.  I do hope other people post pictures if there were any other bitcointalk members in attendance.  This is one of those things that's positive all the way around.  Kudos.

Aside from myself and a few of my colleagues, I don't believe any other active forum member participated in the challenge or donated; it's been almost 2 weeks since I requested pictures (face covered) of those who participated so I could add them to the op, but none have been received. Perhaps some chose to remain anonymous for personal reasons.
