Title: Reasons why I might consider selling my Bitcoin.
Post by: Fiatless on March 28, 2023, 05:56:00 AM
I have been in this forum for some time now and becoming a bitcoin trader didn't interest me. I have been attracted to the idea of keeping my coins for a long time and selling it when it reaches my target. I have decided not to sell any of my coins until the bull run season no matter the pressure from any corner. But recently, I was just reasoning about my bitcoin holding because where a man's treasure is where his mind will be when a question dropped into my mind; What can make you sell your bitcoin? I thought about it and I came up with these few points.

Health Issues: Health is wealth, which means without health a man is not wealthy. If there is any sickness that needs money for me or any member of the family to seek medical help, I might decide to sell some of my bitcoin holding to cover the bills. It is only the living that can enjoy the benefit of any investment.

Loss of source of income: A loss of a job or business might force me to sell some of my holdings if I exhaust all my savings. I and my family needs to be alive to enjoy our investment, so we need food and other basic needs to survive. it will be painful but it will be better than begging or taking loans.

Business opportunity: Many people in my country are migrating to developed to seek better employment opportunities. Many of them are cheaply selling their properties and businesses. If I have the opportunity to buy a cheap house or business, I might decide to sell some of my bitcoin because the profit from the business will help me to buy more bitcoin in the future. House rent is expensive in my country and it is really taking a large chunk of my income. If I own a house, my house rent can be used to buy more bitcoin.

Unfavorable government policies: If the government of my country decides to ban the holding or use of bitcoin, I might be forced to dispose of them. I will not want to be hiding from law enforcement agencies or risk being arrested. I don't wish this to happen but if it does, I will have to take that hard and painful decision.

Migration: My earnings only permit me to save a little amount that I use to invest in Bitcoin. If I have an opportunity to secure a higher-paying job in another country ad I have to finance the travel with part of my bitcoin holding, I might sell some. I higher paying job means more investment in bitcoin.

Higher Education or Skills: If there is an opening for promotion in my organization and it requires getting a higher degree or specialized skills, I might consider selling part of my holdings. This is because such a promotion or job bring higher financial reward which can enable me to buy more coins.

In summary, there are just two broad reasons that will make me sell my coins, first emergencies such as sickness and loss of a source of income, and better opportunities that will give me more financial backup to buy more bitcoin.

Well said, Bitcoin is an asset, one could liquidate some of it like any other asset if there is a need for it. But we must be sure that the needs are worth it and I agree with some of the points you iterated above. God will not allow us to face health and financial challenges, they are such that might tie the hands of anyone to selling their assets if there is no other choice.

However, I can't sell my Bitcoin because of the following:
Business opportunities because it's an investment for me itself
Unfavourable government policies because it's decentralized, so I can still stay off the radar
Migration and Higher Education or Skills because my earnings from it could take care of that for me and I will hustle the rest as most education abroad is not paid at once

These are my personal view and status and could be different from anyone else.

I believe we should only invest amounts of Bitcoin that we would not need to liquidate in other to finance a real life need, more like spare money, which makes up only a small percentage of your total savings.
If you do this, you would not need to sell for health emergencies or any other financial requirement.

That's the textbook advice, but it's likely that many holders risk a little bit more than they can afford to lose with Bitcoin as their trust in it grows and when faced with a financial need, one might need to sell off.

All the reasons you outlined are valid and would compel pretty much anyone to sell, but for me that would only be a percentage of my holdings, I plan to always hold some amount of Bitcoin for years to come and never fully "cash out".

True, I was thinking the same way. Waiting for $100K BTC or more is great and all, but if there is an emergency it's better to sell it, it's one of the reasons to have investments in the first place.

I agree with the rest except this one

There are many countries which have completely ban Bitcoin, but after Bitcoin is widely accepted many countries, they're consider to unban Bitcoin. When the government announce to completely ban Bitcoin, it would create a panic and I think the P2P platform on your country don't mind to sell Bitcoin at discount rate. I will not do this, I will choose to hold Bitcoin in private or move to other country.

we all have reasons when to sell our coins. if you sell because you need funds, that's really for a good cause.

but one good reason why some do it every time is when there is bull run.
traders would sell their coins before the bear market start or even before the bull run ends they already sold their coins because they wouldn't wait for it to hit the peakest during the bull season.

In summary, there are just two broad reasons that will make me sell my coins, first emergencies such as sickness and loss of a source of income, and better opportunities that will give me more financial backup to buy more bitcoin.

That's a good summary of why people are selling their coins and I agree with point to sell our coins if we need the money for something important. For me health is also the number one thing to focus one. Hopefully you are okay and not selling your coins because of it. What kind of other opportunities are you going for, will you come back to bitcoins? In my opinion financial opportunities change quickly and I would only sell my coins for emergencies. If there is a short term opportunity to invest in I would rather try and raise additional funds than sell my bitcoins. When it comes to investing I strongly believe that we shouldn't put all our eggs in one basket, diversification is important. That's why I will try to always keep some bitcoins and sell rather other assets first.

I like your first point about health, you can't become successful if you are not in good shape yourself, you need to pray for better health in the future to enjoy your investment when the reaping time is right, a healthy man is indeed a wealthy man.

As for the business opportunity, I have sold some valuable things I have to buy Bitcoin, and I do not see anything worth trying out except Bitcoin, maybe it's just how I think, but I do have my own business and most of my money goes straight into Bitcoin investments. In my opinion, Bitcoin remains a golden business opportunity, because whatever business you pursue is still all about making more money. Isn't it?

The government has banned crypto for years in my country, since I was not accepting Bitcoin payment, there was no need to panic, I kept buying Bitcoin using my bank account, thanks to Peer 2 Peer on the Binance exchange, you can only get yourself in trouble if there is any word related to crypto when sending money from your bank account to someone else.

I have seen a lot of hardship in my life, there is nothing left that can shake my faith in holding my Bitcoin, if Bitcoin have no future the government wouldn't be trying all they can to kill it, definitely this digital currency is working.

By investing their money in bitcoin, for sure, each person will have their own reasons and goals. Someone insures their money by investing in Bitcoin, and someone is waiting for a certain price to sell. In the same way, it can be said that some people still use bitcoin as digital money to acquire or buy goods. Waiting for a large value of bitcoin is normal for those who have another financial cushion that allows them not to turn to their investments for a long time. In addition, it is normal to expect a profit if it is significant, but for this, the investment itself must be a large amount. I will not deprive myself of the charms of life by saving on everything in order to get a little more money in the future. If I suddenly have an idea to buy something, and for this, I need to open a "safe" with bitcoin, I will spend it without hesitation. Our time is so uncertain that it is necessary to live in the now and not wait for tomorrow, which for some does not happen.

What can make you sell your bitcoin?
tl;dr

Your post is too long but skimming it, I got your opinion and my point is if you use all your money to invest in Bitcoin, sooner or later you will fall into one of those situations you mentioned, and have to sell your bitcoins at times you never want to sell such in bottom of bear market.

In short, make sure you reserve a bit of money in either fiat currency or stable coin to use in emergency. Because it is for emergency, fiat currency is better. Risk of de-peg from stable coin is another risk factor why you should choose fiat currency.

It is easily to say I have diamond hands and will hold my bitcoins especially in bull market. Assume you spend $10,0 00 in last bull market, buy bitcoin at $60,000 and months later you need money when bitcoin was about $20,000 and you have to sell it.

A simple calculation, you will have to sell your bitcoin at /3 price. Rather than selling a fraction of bitcoin with initial capital at $1000, you will have to sell three-fold of that amount just to get $1,000. Is it a good way to invest and hold your bitcoins? NO

Your reasons are legit to sell your holdings but to live a financially free life you need more than holding like new investment opportunities which could make you more money. I know BTC has its benefits due to volatility and could give huge profits in long run but that's not enough. Like what will happen if the market goes into a bear trend and remain there for like 1 whole year or maybe 2? And in that period, you needed that money like in an emergency.

You will be forced to sell your holdings like I was forced, the point is, if you have the mind of an entrepreneur then you tend to invest in different businesses (diversify) so that if one goes down then the other can back you up. I have seen many people becoming rich overnight with their BTC like they do future trades and make huge profits but some lost all of it. Why? Taking these huge risks while you can play it safe.

You should remain optimistic and should encourage your mentality to not depend on your holdings while you should encourage it to open new gateways of earning so that whenever you face those conditions or reasons to sell your holdings then that money (generated from other Businesses) could help you out.

Above all, if you know little bit of technical analysis and are aware of all the fundamental things happening globally, you can sell at the best possible price even before you are in emergency.
Never ever do forced selling. I know in some situations like health issues we got no other choice but for rest all the things I'd not sell my bitcoins at any rate. Btw, thats just my opinion.

What about spending it for a cup of coffee at your local restaurant ;)

I know you are talking about your long term BTC investments that is probably stored in a hardware wallet or in an airgapped device, and not BTC for regular spending that's stored in a hot wallet, but for members who do not do this, if you have local merchants with whom you can spend your BTC, it is good to have a small amount in a hot wallet that you can spend at your convenience, BTC should not only be spent if there is an emergency.

But OP all your reasons are sensible, if income from your job and your other investments in real life cannot solve the problem you have, then if your BTC's are all you have left, then you have to sell it to solve the problem you have.

There are plenty of reasons that can make an investor sell their bitcoins, and it varies from one individual to another. In my opinion, what matters most is being happy and healthy, rather than just making a lot of money and being rich, especially if your life is a mess. Sometimes, having a lot of bitcoins may not make a person happy unless they use them for things that improve their lives. Personally, I would like to use my bitcoins to invest in big projects or to cash out when I am in urgent need of funds for family or health issues, and not just for the sake of accumulating wealth.

Loss of source of income: A loss of a job or business might force me to sell some of my holdings if I exhaust all my savings. I and my family needs to be alive to enjoy our investment, so we need food and other basic needs to survive. it will be painful but it will be better than begging or taking loans.
I will concede to this part of your reasons.
Before I made the decision to invest in Bitcoin, I probably should have had other sources of income; that is to say, my investment in Bitcoin will not in any way affect my way of life, expenses, or matters arising from my job. Me investing on Bitcoin I take it as a buried funds which it's only when I actually budget to pull of the funds that's when I will do that.

Unless as @Edwardard have mentioned if I see great trading opportunity which can add up more funds to my holdings I will sell off and buy again when the price will at my favour. But it will be hard to make such decisions though because the price of Bitcoin can sometimes be very surprising, when you sell might be when the bull market will began and buying back can't give you what you actually sold out.

I understand that the reasons that will force someone to sell is different for everyone. Some will sell even for the slightest reasons, for others, there is usually a good reason for selling.

Health Issues:
Before health challenges or issues be the reason to make you sell, go get a health insurance, or have money that you keep for health and every other emergencies.

Loss of source of income:
If you take money from your investment to support yourself and family during a difficult time like a period where you just experienced loss of source of income, try not to finish it all, also as you take make sure it is not just only to eat but also to try to settle down again.

Property investment can be good if you get a good offer and good place, but if you sell your bitcoin to buy a property that is not good, or not in a good environment or land, you will regret.

Unfavorable government policies: If the government of my country decides to ban the holding or use of bitcoin, I might be forced to dispose of them. I will not want to be hiding from law enforcement agencies or risk being arrested.
The government who you know are obsessed with holding on to their control over you should not be feared. There are many countries where bitcoins are still illegal to have, but it has not stopped people completely from having some bitcoins in secret. Do not let the government of your country spoil your decision to hold bitcoins.

Meeting the target one has set for themselves is also another reason to sell.

Seriously, op you have given a reasonable points that can actually make person sell his/her Bitcoin investment. But let know that there are a lot of reasons that can make individual to sell him/her Bitcoin investment but that will depend on how does reasons may serve to an individual despite it may not sound reasonable to others. As for me, I can sell a portion of my Bitcoin if I need cash to accompany whatever I know it will be reasonable to my life, but it must be something reasonable in my eyes, such as food and clothing.therefore have not really eager  to make it through Bitcoin investment but also consider it to be a privacy.

In this case, when you still have some source of income, you should be careful about where to spend it and one good thing is to buy some bitcoins instead of spending your money on some bad habits like cigarettes and alcohol because it will only add you in misery because those things don't benefit you at all. so instead, buy some bitcoins and it will grow and will secure your funds whenever there will be an emergency you won't regret that decision because it has been tried before, and as we can see, there are lots of successful stories when doing that method of investment.

There are two many reasons to sell our bitcoins and that depends on how satisfied we are with that decision. Unforeseen circumstances is the summary of those reasons.

We just have to embrace the reality that we can't hold forever unless you're all set for life and you're not worrying about anything. You can hold as long as you can and you've got all of those businesses and other source of income to help you with finances from those potential situations that you may encounter.

It is difficult to restrict our requirements, which makes it challenging to pinpoint the motive behind selling my Bitcoin. However, I concur with the OP that certain fundamental factors may prompt us to sell our Bitcoin. Typically, I sell my Bitcoin when there are no other alternatives available to meet my needs and when I have earned substantial profits. When I profit from my holdings, I sell them and repurchase them during dips. This allows me to generate additional funds to utilize in my personal life.

Financial management is important for us to have something called savings, which is not actually possible to achieve by many due to their indiscipline spending of what they earn. However you have listed some reasons that you will sell your coins to full fill that but I want to talk about first point, yes health is wealth but we need to be smart and take a good health insurance so we don't have to worry that much for such medical emergency and thr last point, I won't sell my bitcoin to get higher education because it's useless in reality.

Health Issues
Loss of source of income

These are the 2 main things or reasons on which i could definitely say that i might really be selling off my coin specially if theres no way for you to go or doesnt really have the option
specially when health issues do arise on which you cant really be sure on what would happen next. This is why we have been saving up money or investment in the first place
on which it would really be used into emergencies or on time that you would be needing up some funds.

What you say is absolutely true and everyone will most likely sell Bitcoin if it is in an emergency or has achieved the desired profit.
If we can still think rationally and realistically, of course we really appreciate our Bitcoin assets and will sell all of our Bitcoins when it is really needed and not waste it buying things that are unnecessary and unimportant.
Because we know that getting the Bitcoin that we have is not very easy, behind all the Bitcoin that we have, whether it's a lot or a little, there is a hard struggle to get it. Some of us have to be willing to forego lavish lifestyles or put off our desires just to set aside our money for investing or even trading.
But everyone has the right to sell their Bitcoin for any reason, whether it's for a positive reason or even for a negative reason, because it's a valuable asset that belongs to them personally.

Of course, it’s the best time to sell when there is bull run since everyone will definitely sell for profits. However, aside from bull run, one reason that I think there is a need to sell a portion or the whole bitcoin is when we are dealing with a serious health issues, or one of the family members is suffering from that. I guess no need for hesitation, I will definitely sell my bitcoin quickly regardless of the price just to save my life or someone’s life.

Everyone has its own target when to sell their bitcoin, but seeing someone experiencing from health issues, I guess one will be force to sell his bitcoin even when the market is still bearish. For me, that’s already part of being humanitarian, to help others when they are in need of assistance so badly. However, for the rest of the reasons listed by OP, I guess it’s everyone’s preference whether they will sell or not, as they can still continue to invest and hold without selling their bitcoin.

All those reasons can be generalized as "you need cash here and now". And this realization is often missed by Bitcoiners who say that "1 BTC = 1 BTC", that you need to HODL and you will always be in profit. Because life often forces us to spend money, and if 50% of your networth is tied in Bitcoin and it's a bear market, that will result in a loss. That's what people mean when they say invest only what you can afford to lose.

It’s always good to have a back-up plan and with Bitcoin considering this as your emergency fund is also ok but don’t forget its volatility and the risk of this market so better to still have you emergency fund in fiat money, at least budgeted for the five months expenses. I’ll sell my Bitcoin if I’m already ok with my profit, patience is the key.

actually health problems or other emergency problems will be resolved if we are not only consistent about setting aside our money to invest, but we also have to set aside consistently for health savings funds and for other emergency funds.
if indeed someone is "forced" to sell their Bitcoin then it really is a last option and when in a situation there is no other choice to solve their problem, whether it's because they have no fiat at all or other property to sell or maybe debt that they have already too much.
we really have to be able to manage our finances well and maintain a simple lifestyle so that we can minimize not selling our Bitcoins for things we shouldn't want or not in accordance with our initial plans for Bitcoins.

OP your points are very much on track. I myself have had this thought over and over in many occasions I find myself having a glance at my bitcoin or Crypto assets. I asked myself this question as it is pertinent. I have had the experience not long ago where I had no option than to self off my bitcoin for an urgent emergency which requires attention. Although it was a very though decision but I had to. You know sometimes having diverse investment can not in most cases meet your urgent demand for attention as the case maybe as time is a factor to the urgent need. I was lucky I had bitcoin in my wallet I had to sell immediately and I was able to replace it back when I got my pending credit alert that same day at the evening hours.

Bitcoin like they say as an investment is good and it is nice using some spare cash which you know would not bother you in the long run as it is a long term investment but note that bitcoin is money and you should know that the market is volatile but that should not stop you from using it when you have an emergency  and when it seems only bitcoin can be your rescue at that point in time.

Well said I think most of us have felt those reason before.
For me it was health issue and Loss of Source of Income,
So far those are the only issues that I've encounter, or felt with crypto on your list but, I want to feel the Business opportunity that you've mentioned on your list that is one good reason to sell my crypto I know some people would sell their house for crypto but if I have enough crypto to buy a house I would do it without a doubt.

All the reasons mentioned by the OP sure do make sense, except one, and that is having to sell my bitcoin because of government policies.
That is something I would never do, if the government of my country ban bitcoin, I will keep holding my bitcoin, for me, I think it is better to be running and hiding from law enforcement agencies than sell my bitcoin never to buy it again, all because the government, for their own selfish reasons decided to ban bitcoin..
The thing is that, government did not give me a job, they aren't the one feeding my me and my family, it is through bitcoin I made money and started the business I'm running today, if bitcoin didn't do this for me, will the government do it for me?

If your goal for Bitcoin is to have investments and make profits in the future, yes, you can seel your Bitcoin anytime. Every people right now got different uses for Bitcoin, some just bought a small portion of Bitcoin because they just want to support the technology or innovation. Some are buying because they are using it for something else like in their day-to-day lives, they are using Bitcoin as normal currency to pay for something.
And most common are some people buying Bitcoin because of investment or store of value, which for some people it became an emergency fund just like for me. Which I can sell it anytime if I need it urgent for emergency purposes just like need for my health or family members.

Selling the pieces of bitcoin I've accumulated over the years is not something I will do in a hurry because there's 80% chance of Bitcoin to hit $100k level on the chart, all these fluctuations of Bitcoin are common noises and I'm not distracted by this because I'm already used to the market pattern. Bitcoin is essential to top companies and crypto whales in the space. Bitcoin is the top on my wishlists and also leading in the my port folio. Different uses of Bitcoin varies depending on what the coin is been used for. Trading Bitcoin is my daily routine and I've benefited much more than any other coin in the market.

Where a man's treasure is, lies his heart is a very nice caption from the holy book and it has been proven true even in the crypto industry. I've seen articles of people advising others to buy at every instance they get and I still wonder how people do this even without having to see how much progress their portfolio is making on a regular because I personally have to check my wallet everyday because I have my wallet in my phone and I always want to see some growth no matter how little it is in my portfolio.
There are actually several reasons to why one should sell their Bitcoin and all the reasons you listed are great ones but I have been on the opinion that people shouldn't make savings a very difficult one as the main reason for saving is to have something to fall back to in times of emergency without having to bother someone else, hence selling shouldn't be a big deal if it's serving it's purpose.

I understand that there are many things to consider when you are trying to get around making the most of your invested money on assets such as cryptocurrencies, specifically BTC. And all are valid with the emergencies, and make sure you will make the most of it.

Timing is definitely against you with this because it might be unfavorable to cash out if the price is low and ideal when it is high, of course. That's already a lost opportunity, but you must still answer that emergency.

What's important is that you accept that you will lose the opportunity whenever you decide on the two options you stated. You better know that and don't regret what you do in the future.

If I own a house, my house rent can be used to buy more bitcoin

This is probably enough reason for one to sell off his Bitcoin holdings because there are a lot of opportunities that only present its self once in a lifetime and if one happens to be lucky enough to see any opportunity and see it as one then, we should grab it knowing its worth the risk. Selling off BTC and buying a house or employment opportunity can never be a thing of regret because you can buy back the number of the sold btc later when you have realized enough funds from your business or other side hustles, but you see that business, employment or house opportunity if you miss it ones, you might likely never get an offer as of what you missed.

While I do have funds set aside for emergency purposes, once they are depleted, I may have no choice but to sell my bitcoins.

Like you, my primary reason for holding bitcoin is to wait for the right time to sell. I am intrigued by the concept of "HODL" because many successful investors have demonstrated the benefits of not selling too early. While I cannot be certain whether bitcoin will reach $1 million per piece, that is my ultimate goal since I hold at least 1 bitcoin, and I hope to retire a millionaire.

BTC moves up and down, and when we buy a house when the BTC exchange rate rises, this will be a distinct advantage, because when the bitcoin price falls we can buy it back. different from property which will always increase every year, so as the head of the family I also think about owning a house for my main needs. after having a home then we will be more free to work

You are very lucky because you can control your emotions and don't panic and sell because most of us when there is a pump are tempted to sell off, and I can relate to this. After a couple of months, I would regret it as it pumps more. But you are too defensive, and you should set a target for when you will sell it off that is achievable. Right now that is also one of my reasons to sell it off, which I called it in case of emergency, but if it ever reaches my goal, I will sell it.

Health Issues: Health is wealth, which means without health a man is not wealthy. If there is any sickness that needs money for me or any member of the family to seek medical help, I might decide to sell some of my bitcoin holding to cover the bills. It is only the living that can enjoy the benefit of any investment.
Health is another form of wealth besides money, why have a lot of money but not healthy. Money can't buy health, but you can make money with health.
Very wise, you still care about family members when they are in trouble. It's not easy to destroy a well-organized portfolio, but you do it to lighten their load.

Quote
Loss of source of income: A loss of a job or business might force me to sell some of my holdings if I exhaust all my savings. I and my family needs to be alive to enjoy our investment, so we need food and other basic needs to survive. it will be painful but it will be better than begging or taking loans.
Before faced with this situation, it is necessary to have some cold money that can be used whenever you need it. Before your savings are completely depleted, you must immediately find a solution to find additional money. There are still simple ways you can do to prevent your investment assets from being touched.

Very impressive, buying a house and then renting it to someone else, then you can use the rent money back to buy Bitcoin. In my place, house rental prices always increase every year. It's a great idea to do this business, the value of your main asset will always increase every year, you can save annual or monthly rental results in the form of Bitcoin.

What OP said is very true, some times an emergency can take place that can make any Bitcoin holder to give up their holdings, health is wealth, still, this is why we need to work harder on the incomes we earn every month, if the income is high enough you can still be able to do something without touching your Bitcoin reserves, or if worst should happen you can sell part of your Bitcoin but it's different from selling everything. Also, let's hope that nothing bad happens to anyone of us, let's always try to think positively, I pray we all live longer to enjoy the fruits of our labor.

What can make you sell your bitcoin?
The only reason I sold my Bitcoin was when I didn't have reserve funds or cash during an emergency even though I was in a loss condition, it's not easy to keep our investment in bitcoin when circumstances urge us to do so. That is why investments are only made carefully and the money used is really well calculated and when we have a long term target for Bitcoin that we have then we should try to make a living with existing income without thinking about the benefits of keeping BTC, because seeing our assets go up is not profit until we actually convert them into fiat

Unfavorable government policies: If the government of my country decides to ban the holding or use of bitcoin, I might be forced to dispose of them. I will not want to be hiding from law enforcement agencies or risk being arrested. I don't wish this to happen but if it does, I will have to take that hard and painful decision.
Those are very good point you just made @ O.P, of which I too will likely do the same by selling my Bitcoin if I'm pressed with any of these challenges except this very one mentioned above. Because I believe government policies literally has nothing to do with Bitcoin because of its decentralized nature whereby it can be bought and sold even on a decentralized exchange such as "bisq" in places where Binance or coinbase might be prohibited into a dollar account, (e.g Paypal) and then later converted into your local fiat currency such as "Chinese yuan and Ghana cedi"

You can't force yourself to not sell your assets if the situation around you calls the action to sell your assets or something urgent happens to you. It's okay to sell your assets, because you can just pretty much buy it again once you have the funds to afford. It's your assets, so it's pretty much free for you to do anything with your assets as long as you know what would happened and responsible with the action you have done.

I kinda doubt that most of us want to sell our BTC as soon as we see it go green. There are only 2 reasons for selling my Bitcoin - emergency or when BTC goes wild and hits more than $100K.

P2P is the solution in that case, but it is also not safe, especially when you hold a large number of bitcoins, if the policy in my country is too strict and the penalty is too heavy, I will take a closer look. Holding in private is probably the only solution that I think we should do. The choice to move to another country is really not worth it, bitcoin is not the only asset or the only tool to make our lives better. Leaving your homeland behind and leaving your loved ones behind just for the sake of holding a few bitcoins is not worth it.

In summary, there are just two broad reasons that will make me sell my coins, first emergencies such as sickness and loss of a source of income, and better opportunities that will give me more financial backup to buy more bitcoin.

In my opinion, this is basically according to your goals in buying bitcoins so that you have the right reasons to liquidate the bitcoins you own. There are those who make bitcoin as an alternative investment, hedge, currency and others, of course, everyone has the right to own and liquidate the bitcoin they own. The reasons you gave are clear and of course I will definitely do it because basically bitcoin is just an asset for me for some advantages in life in terms of financial.

Yes it is the right decision to have such a plan and I'm sure the people here also have the same expectations, but it's different if the position is urgent and maybe we have to sell all the bitcoins we have to cover it and I don't think it's a problem if do it.

Apart from emergencies, I will sell bitcoins, if I find something better than bitcoins, I will also sell my bitcoins to switch to it. We invest in bitcoin because it's better than other assets' other investments, and if there's a better chance, I won't hesitate to switch. Our ultimate goal is to earn a lot of money and to be financially free, so I think we should not be too conservative, always seek and accept new things, and constantly challenge ourselves to get better results.

Just as we are working to create our fortune, so we must monitor our health, but you are right, no one knows what may lie ahead, so you need to be prepared for everything.

I don’t need to bring it to the point of selling investments, I have long determined for myself that I want to create some kind of business, or even several, maybe it won’t be a big business, but it will be enough so that my family does not need anything . Everyone has to decide for himself what it will be for him, but I would advise everyone to create an additional source besides work, never rely only on work.

Sometimes a hobby can become your main source of income, try to do what you like, create new sources of income and then you will never have a situation that forced you to sell your bitcoins.

I think I can find couple of reasons that would cause me to sell my Bitcoin. First is probably I am getting broke and unemployed as everyone already said. No need to explain. One without proper income would need to sell Bitcoin.
If I need a car I also need to sell some of my Bitcoin. Cars are very expensive in my country so its very hard to get one without credit from bank. So I would probably sell some Bitcoin to get a car in easy way. Otherwise I wouldn't feel a need to sell Bitcoin (s).

Health is wealth,  health should be the first priority of man, it is something you don't have any option but to sell your bitcoin or anything just for one to be alive. To every serious investors that is dedicated to investing bitcoin I pray health issues doesn't come up that will make us change the investment plan. I think what makes people to sell their bitcoin is when they lose their only source of income and they have no means of income, that is why it is wise to afford only one can invest and to get other sources of income.

I and my family needs to be alive to enjoy our investment, so we need food and other basic needs to survive. it will be painful but it will be better than begging or taking loans.
Both of these reasons aren't enough for me to sell my Bitcoins... or I might depending on the reasons.
Why?

Because I have emergency funds that's enough to cover these 2. For Health Issues, I think I've had enough money that's I have been saved to cover enough, but if the worst thing comes where it wasn't enough, then I might sell a portion of not just my crypto holdings, but other assets as well to cover the bills. As for the Loss of income source, like I said I have emergency funds that's enough to cover me at least a year even I don't have any income source. I think that time horizon is enough for me to find another job.

This isn't applicable for me since I'm not a business-minded person, but for sure, there are some who already took some profit and sold some of their Bitcoins so that they will have money to be used if they want to make a business.

Unfavorable government policies: If the government of my country decides to ban the holding or use of bitcoin, I might be forced to dispose of them. I will not want to be hiding from law enforcement agencies or risk being arrested. I don't wish this to happen but if it does, I will have to take that hard and painful decision.
We in our country are quite lucky that our government is just neutral on cryptocurrencies.
What I mean is that, we don't hear any positive things on him that is related to crypto, but at the same time, we aren't hearing any negatives as well unlike in other countries where they are imposing a ban to use cryptocurrencies.

In summary, there are just two broad reasons that will make me sell my coins, first emergencies such as sickness and loss of a source of income, and better opportunities that will give me more financial backup to buy more bitcoin.
Same as you, I also think that the 2 options that you said are the only reasons why I will sell Bitcoins, but overall, selling Bitcoins is my last resort in case I'm in need of money. Maybe my only concrete reason as to why I will be selling my Bitcoins is to just take profit, re-invest or buy something that will generate me more money.

Not only you, but many others will also sell their coins for these above reasons. I mean why are you investing or trading? To earn extra income right and to make your life more easy?If the saved money isn’t useful for the mentioned above reasons, then what’s the point of investing. Moreover you also need to consider that sell the coins when you don’t have any other options left. The reason for which I am emphasising this sentence more is that, due to the availability of the coins. Bitcoins are very rare as they are limited in number. So there are high chances that when the time will pass, the price of the coin will increase.

An investor is forced to sell his invested bitcoins at some point, he never agrees to sell his invested bitcoins without special need. Suppose I am forced to sell the bitcoins I have invested only for my physical and special family needs. I haven't wanted to sell my bitcoins yet but I will definitely want to sell them if my wife and children need them in the future. I invested in bitcoins in 2021 when the bitcoin market was fairly bullish but if I wanted to sell those bitcoins now I would face huge losses. So I won't sell my bitcoins unless I have to.

Health reasons, buying daily necessities, and loss of income sources could make me sell bitcoins to survive because having money can help us survive. Even though we didn't want to sell it at that time, but because of the pressing need, we had to keep selling it. And I think that's what people will do, especially if they don't have any money. And that is the reality that we must face in investing in any field because we are in a situation like that, we seem to have to fulfill it because it concerns our lives or our families.

When someone has made bitcoin as an investment asset, he cannot hold bitcoin forever. They must be able to decide when to take profits and when to reinvest in order to achieve their investment goals.

Of course there are many reasons why someone would sell their bitcoin. Some of these reasons have been mentioned in the OP and each of us also has our own reasons which can be different. Most are out of necessity, while others take advantage of the moment to profit from each price cycle.

Aside from FUD, all reasons for selling a portion of your portfolio to me is justifiable. It's your money after all, so by all means you have the full authority and control over where it gets spent or where it goes. Taking other people's opinions and advices are only secondary. In that regard however, you couldn't really say I could just sell my bitcoin, or my investments for that matter belligerently, of course I gotta gauge myself before I make that heavy decision.

I do have a couple, here are they:

1. Short on funds: If I feel like I'm gonna need a little push to be able to spend on stuff I want to, I may borrow a couple from my investments, then repay it once I get the money back.
2. Financial collapse: If the market crashed to the ground, You can bet your sweet bippy I'm going to be one of the first to cash out on my investments, I'm not gonna be a visionary who thinks of profit at the time of crisis lmao.

Your reasons aren't far from what an individual with a thinking mind would do. I think it would be dumb to have an issue that your capable of funding from your bitcoin portfolio and then, you take a path towards getting lones so as to avoid selling some of your coins. Health though would be one heartbreaking way to go as its just another expenditure and comes without any reward except for your well being and some more time to replenish/enjoy what you've worked hard for.

One point you made is where I am confused if, its actually virtue or its you just stating the possibility but, it is;
Unfavorable government policies:[/u] If the government of my country decides to ban the holding or use of bitcoin, I might be forced to dispose of them. I will not want to be hiding from law enforcement agencies or risk being arrested. I don't wish this to happen but if it does, I will have to take that hard and painful decision.
When you say should government ban bitcoin, this implies that the ban is already in place and transacting after that would be committing the crime you hope not to (being in possession or trading bitcoin). Its anonymous and comes with lost of privacy, exchanges has a privacy term to consider and I don't think you've committed any crime by owning what hurts no one. Especially when, you didn't earn them by some scam. I might as well take the risk, hope they never find out or in a way, it would aide to hold even more better.
I would hate to see a government coming back to cover correct some mistakes in the future after making someone lose an investment that could have been for a lifetime of fortune.

I have actually gone through your highlighted points and I would sell my BTC for this. Health is wealth and what's the point of hoarding onto bitcoin and choosing not to spend it at the detriment of your health or the health of your love ones? This is a very good reason to sell and seek medical attention or get the best treatment.

Unfavorable government policies: If the government of my country decides to ban the holding or use of bitcoin, I might be forced to dispose of them. I will not want to be hiding from law enforcement agencies or risk being arrested. I don't wish this to happen but if it does, I will have to take that hard and painful decision.

I'm not sure something like that could happen, and even if it happened, I don't see a reason to sell Bitcoin, because you can still store, buy, sell without getting noticed by the governments. Some countries have already banned Bitcoin, like China, Morocco, and Egypt. However, a good portion of the citizens of these countries are still using Bitcoin. What makes me worry about this situation is that if you lose your coins in a theft process in your country, you can't file a claim to restore it.

Migration: My earnings only permit me to save a little amount that I use to invest in Bitcoin. If I have an opportunity to secure a higher-paying job in another country ad I have to finance the travel with part of my bitcoin holding, I might sell some. I higher paying job means more investment in bitcoin.

Bitcoin prices won't stay at these levels forever, so selling at low prices to migrate to another country could be a bad decision as you won't be able to buy at the levels you sold at. We know that Bitcoin's price is too volatile and it could double in a matter of months or so. Therefore, I don't recommend selling Bitcoin for this reason.

This is a good reason, in my opinion, as education always pays off in one way or another. However, for this reason, if it was possible to take a loan, that would be better than selling Bitcoin, but not all countries offer this kind of loan.
All of us strive to collect more Bitcoin, but I think we are limited by time, because Bitcoin could rise up fast, leaving us behind with a missed opportunity, thus coordinating our future plan with the expectation of Bitcoin prices and according to the Bitcoin cycle path, might help in this case.

You are right, in urgent state I think anyone would consider selling their assets including bitcoin. Financial problems, health, urgent needs or whatever the most likely reason, then I think they should sell it. But it's good to hold bitcoin if they have other options to sell, this is because bitcoins have more potential to provide good returns than other assets like gold or other investments in the long term.

All valid points, and most of them are reasons why i have sold my bitcoins. We have free healthcare but especially loss of source of income has been good enough reason for me to sell some.
It stings a bit to sell some but as there were really no other options i sold some. And instead of feeling bad, i considered myself lucky and blessed that i had something to sell and keep the roof over my head and i could still have enough money to buy clothes and eat healthy. Some people could say i would be rich if i didn't sell, but also i might be just a worst dad ever not providing my kids when times were not that good and i actually had something to give from.

But can you use btc in china? They have highly effective surveillance system in everywhere and social credit system keeping citizens obeying. It would be highly risky to use bitcoin in there especially when you know how harsh the punishments are.

Almost every cryptocurrency hodler have similar thought. On execution atleast 50% of them were unable to follow it. Even for manageable finance requirement people easily cashout bitcoin and use it thinking in mind we can buy it soon. The buying won't happen as planned and this affects the investment, but while considering the good about the usage it helps with the circulation.

Whenever there is need for money I prefer to cashout and spend without thinking of borrowing or a second choice, because I live with a mind that we should not die with debt. We don't know what happens by the next minute, so it is always good to live with what we have than keeping things secure for long term and when there is need for money we might've left the world.

I believe the sole aim of every investment is to meet up the needs of the investor. While we stick to hodling on a long term goal, at the same time we are hodling so our investment can help solve major challenges in the future.

That been said, for whatever reason a bitcoin investor is willing to sell their coin for as long as it has meet the pressing need of that moment it has served its purpose. The next target will be to buy more when new capital comes in. As long as the volatility still troubles the market there will always be newer opportunities to buy

Although many of us would like to hold onto our bitcoin investment for a very long time, life circumstances prevent it from happening.

In short, make sure you reserve a bit of money in either fiat currency or stable coin to use in emergency. Because it is for emergency, fiat currency is better. Risk of de-peg from stable coin is another risk factor why you should choose fiat currency.

A simple calculation, you will have to sell your bitcoin at /3 price. Rather than selling a fraction of bitcoin with initial capital at $1000, you will have to sell three-fold of that amount just to get $1,000. Is it a good way to invest and hold your bitcoins? NO
The easiest method to deal with not selling your bitcoin because of unforeseen circumstances is as tranthidung advised. You should in case have fiat currency saved for emergencies. so that you won't be forced to sell your bitcoin at a loss due to unforeseen circumstances in your life. when in reality, you are not yet prepared to sell.

Nothing weak me the more than that of illness and starvation, no matter what amount of bitcoin volume I am holding I must make sure no one stays without food before going to bed. Reason being that whenever one has a good food nutrients there's always a very slim chance for them to fell sick and for that I don't always try to skip any meal.
This is the most factor that affects me the more something I free up some of my holdings just as you said "Health is wealth" and to have a good health you must have a good food nutritions.

that's the important thing for me also. because if you are sick, all the money in the world doesn't matter anymore. you may have your riches but if you're sick and it is not curable, what will you do with your money? so yeah, better take care of yourself while you can. you can always find that money if you are still able to work.
and the other one is food, better sell your satoshis if you don't have food on your table anymore. don't deprive yourself and let yourself suffer the hunger. just sell it because you can always find that satoshis if you are in better health and mind condition.

One point you made is where I am confused if, its actually virtue or its you just stating the possibility but, it is;
Unfavorable government policies:[/u] If the government of my country decides to ban the holding or use of bitcoin, I might be forced to dispose of them.
@Smartvirus I’d like to make a correction here so newbies don’t misunderstand. I think sometimes we forget bitcoin isn’t anonymous and can be traced back to you if you’re not careful. That’s why mixers are appealing to majority of bitcoin holders. It’s a big risk to have bitcoins if you live in a county that is anti bitcoin and has an active ban on bitcoin. You could face jail time if caught, that’s too much of a risk in my opinion.

Why will you still be holding your bitcoin when you are in need money and you don't have another source, the bitcoin you are holding is also money and you can't be dieing and you need money to treat yourself but you are having bitcoin in your wallet and you don't want to touch it, am sure there are some other problems some people will be having which they won't just have choice than to sell there bitcoin, nobody is saying we shouldn't sell our bitcoin if we are greatly in need of money and we don't have any other choice.

Maybe he's trying to point out that no matter how you planned to hold something, you will be sometimes having reason to break the plan if circumstances would push you to do so. This is a reality in any field of investment not only in cryptocurrency industry. Which is somehow related to the phrase "invest an amount you can afford to lose", because there is no assurance of things. If you are too dependent on the amount you have invested, things won',t end up well in a long run. Problem is; many people are relying their fate with their investment such as it is their gateway of becoming financially stable. That is indeed the goal of investment which is to generate profit but to make it as your sole dependence when it comes to income and profit, is what creating conflict.

In summary, there are just two broad reasons that will make me sell my coins, first emergencies such as sickness and loss of a source of income, and better opportunities that will give me more financial backup to buy more bitcoin.

These reasons are fare for me too.But I also separating my coins in two section. Have them called "For retirement" and "bad days" on Ownr wallet

it's important to have a clear plan in place for your Bitcoin investments, including both long-term goals and potential exit strategies.

This will help you to stay focused and make informed decisions, even in the face of unexpected challenges or opportunities.

Perhaps, these are very reasonable OP. And this will implies that Bitcoin is not for forever holding, there is a time that will come when we need to let them go (sell). It was said that there is no specific time when to sell, exactly. Sometimes we look for another option to get money and keep Bitcoin but also, sometimes it happens that we can't find any aside from selling them. I won't say it is not the right time but we also have thought that Bitcoin is just like our savings, we use them when necessary.

If your government ever bans bitcoin completely, it will mean it wants to ban privacy.

If such thing happened in my country I'd be really worried that the government is turning into another China or North Korea, where they can take your property at any moment and you can be put in jail for not agreeing with them, the way people in Russia were being arrested for holding a Ukrainian flag or saying "no to war" in public.

Would you really prefer to sell your bitcoin and live in that country or move somewhere else and escape oppression?

It always makes sense to hold bitcoin as your long term investment priority if you have other assets to sell as first option.
I could sell my bitcoins for few obvious reasons, but I won't make selling bitcoin a top priority as long as I have other options and an emergency fund.

You must have reserve fund so you can use it when it's urgent. This should be considered by every investor regardless of the assets they own, but some of them may very well have ignored it. Until now bitcoin is not my only investment asset, while I also have a reserve fund for urgent needs at any time.

A man earn money only for living a healthy life and if you cannot spend money for yourself then your earning is just waste of time. First of all you should have some amount of money to be saved for emergency uses and if unfortunately you don't have any such amount then selling bitcoin is better option because health is everything.

Selling of bitcoin will not minimize your profit but it will increase it but if you avoid selling at lower price. You can also do one thing that if you make investment in Bitcoin and after some time you have profit from it then surely sell some part of bitcoin and remaining money will persist as investment so if a time come when you need it for emergency then you will have obtain benefit from it now its your extra income you can use it for emergency purposes.

Despite being a Bitcoin-holding advocate I have my reservations about what I can hold my bitcoin against and to be more stable in your finances, you should make available emergency funds so that you can fall back on it when things are not right.

But then if such reserves are not available, your asset becomes the next saving grace in some situations e.g health challenges since Bitcoin can be liquidated at any time BTC might become a saving grace.

When the chips are down, the bitcoin you have in your wallet may be your last hope, your saviour. The list of reasons why one may consider selling off either some portion of all their bitcoins varies from one person to another and it is actually endless. For example, I once heard of a woman who sold her bitcoins to secure the release of her husband from kidnappers. Personally, I wouldn't hesitate to sell off my bitcoins in a life-or-death situation. I can always get them back no matter how long it will take.

Having the patience to keep Bitcoin as a long-term investment is a gift, because not everyone is capable of doing so.
So many people lose patience and sell their Bitcoin when they see the price is no longer rising or falling below the price at which they purchased it, even if they have nothing important to use the money for. I believe this is because they don't trust Bitcoin processes in this bear market.

Some decisions are made on the spur of the moment, and as a result, one has no choice but to sell their investments to ensure that everything is done correctly, especially since you mentioned health and other important physical opportunities.

However, it is advisable to have some money outside of investment for such personal issues; if one has enough savings outside of investment, he or she can deal with such problems without having to use any of his or her savings.

I think those type of reserve funding is the greatest thing about bitcoin. Just this month, not even without investing, but my signature campaign income was just staying in my account and I wasn't using any of that yet, and the price went up again, and I made some profit, think about it, I didn't even invested, it was just my earnings which I did not spend right away, that's it, that's all I did, and made some profit.

So bitcoin as an investment is a great thing but bitcoin as a fund that you have on the side could also be amazing, possibly the best during bull period of course. Plus, if you are purely in the crypto world and all of your income is bitcoin, then you gotta sell some to pay for the bills and live.

we all have reasons when to sell our coins. if you sell because you need funds, that's really for a good cause.

but one good reason why some do it every time is when there is bull run.
traders would sell their coins before the bear market start or even before the bull run ends they already sold their coins because they wouldn't wait for it to hit the peakest during the bull season.

All have good reasons, for me the reason is because bitcoin prices go up very sharply and fall very sharply if you are in a position that has a little profit even if only for one day, then we will immediately let go for our reasons little capital so you don't have to wait for it to rise to a large number to sell it. different from the big buyers (https://www.cnbcindonesia.com/tech/20210324063534-37-232364/alasan-investor-bitcoin-harus-punya-jantung-yang-kuat) they can balance the market, moreover there are government policies that change.

I do agree that some reasons can push you into selling your bitcoin, but from all those reasons probably having issues with your health, lost of the source of income, and having issues with government are the most particular reasons for someone selling their own savings/bitcoin. In my case as long as it isn't related to health of issues with the government I wouldn't sell my bitcoins and hold it as long as possible.

As for me, Bitcoin is not intended for forever holding as I consider having Bitcoin just like my saving so every time I wanted to sell them due to some important reason, it was there to save me and fill my needs. And OP has that kind of view, they'll never think about taking a loan and making debt but rather use his Bitcoin. Yes you are right about that. I also didn't mean that I'm gonna hold it forever and not try sell it. Right now the only bitcoin I'm holding are the profits that I accumulated over the course of years (of course I tried getting some of my profits from time to time due to some personal needs), but all of those are already considered good ol profit. The main purpose of bitcoin is to be used as a currency and most of us are using that purpose, and it isn't something to be regretful.

I'll sell some of my Bitcoin to buy a house, and I also plan to use a little bit to go into space once those flights become more substantial and cost a bit less so like next decade. I'll also eventually sell a little to diversify into stocks, and give some to family and friends. Other than that I'll just sell some any time I need money in life though ideally that would be pretty rare (I retired off my Bitcoin so it's perfectly fine if I have to sell some to live cuz that was the whole point of retiring early thanks to Bitcoin).

But really I look forward to the day when I don't have to sell Bitcoin and I can just spend it. I'd happily exist on a Bitcoin standard, moving any income I might have into Bitcoin and spending my Bitcoin directly. But we are a long way from that happening.

May some people saying it was wrong decision but at least he did what is best for him than committing debts which in fact, there is an option for not doing it.

Me too, bitcoin is money, and it is to serve us, there is no reason to keep it forever while our lives are in trouble. If there are difficulties, I will also not hesitate to sell my bitcoins as long as it helps me overcome difficulties and solve problems in life. Bitcoin is indeed a worthy investment and a valuable asset.

We invest and accumulate bitcoins also for the purpose of becoming rich and having a happy and prosperous life. So as long as bitcoin can help us in difficult circumstances and emergencies, there is no reason to hesitate without using bitcoin. To me, bitcoin has value only when we use it, it benefits us, not hold on to forever and never sell. I will accumulate bitcoin whenever possible and will not use it wastefully, but I will sell it every time I need the money, and there is no other way.

In summary, there are just two broad reasons that will make me sell my coins, first emergencies such as sickness and loss of a source of income, and better opportunities that will give me more financial backup to buy more bitcoin.

I agree, I won't sell my Bitcoin if there are no emergencies or the price is at a low price, but a few times I sold my Bitcoin when I need that to cover an emergency case in my family I end up regretting selling my Bitcoin. Right now I really lock my Bitcoin so even if there are emergencies case I won't take my Bitcoin from my wallet and use my emergency saving instead.

You shouldn't regret that IMO, if that was a family emergency it's better to lose some Bitcoin than to lose or even get hurt a member of your family. Bitcoin can always be bought.

I think you should not lock your BTC because, by doing this, you close all the doors to your own help whenever you need it, which is likely in most emergency cases. I hope that day never comes, but locking them up is not a wise option. You also said, you tend to use your savings instead of BTC, so why not use BTC the first time?

From your words, I can say you are addicted to doing transactions on BTC (hehehe) Well, maybe that's what it does. just kidding. These are the desires of humans, One of my friends also sold his for around $300 just to cover his expenses by selling at a loss. One thing I can not get is that, he was not even in the kind of emergency that a severe patient is in.

He does not sell them all at once, but instead in parts. I think that's why he did not notice that he was making a mistake. Well, all I can say, everyone faces severe conditions in their lives when they need money, but we should think wisely, and if we have no other option except of selling our BTC, then I think we should not regret our decisions because life is not the same for everyone, we all make decisions according to our lifestyle and mentality. So chill up, and earn more BTC.

But when you spend your money in something you really needed at the time, there is no need to regret your actions, since it is not like you had any other choice at the time and most likely if given the chance you will still take the same decision all over again.

The reasons you mentioned are all valid.

Bitcoin is meant to be spend in any things you see fit or needed, it's your own money and you're the one who decides when, where, and what you're going to spend with it. There's no reason to hold back, especially when you made a decent profit, enjoy it and reinvest some of it. Earning money all of your life but not spending it is nonsense, there's no happiness in just earning money, you're just gonna burn out yourself and will end up in depression.

Well, many of my friends have sold their bitcoin for a loss, because they have been "bitten" by the global down trend in the economy. The interest rates increased... Petrol prices increased... food prices increased... Inflation increased.... and they need to scale down to survive.

I also sell or use bitcoins frequently... because I follow a 80/20% strategy to use or sell 20% of all the coins I buy. We have to... because Bitcoin will fail if it is not used by people.  ;)

One of the reasons to sell bitcoins is financial problems. Because in a difficult financial situation, selling bitcoin assets can be a way to collect fiat money and pay debts or finance operational needs and when we are sick. Apart from that I will keep holding bitcoins and try not to sell them. Basically, going back to the individual selling bitcoins, there must be a sudden reason.

Of course one of the other reasons to sell Bitcoins is to make a profit. If I buy Bitcoins at a lower price and the Bitcoin price goes up, then I will sell Bitcoins at a higher price and make a profit. Then when the bitcoin price drops I will buy back.

Selling Btc to buy what you want is a bill but selling Btc because it's needed is a wealth. It's a tough decision that you have to sell Btc for emergency to cover up the life especially your family member. We can't bring back life but opportunities in Btc is always there. You can earn Btc in many way like mining, trading, and many more. That's why there's no need to regret on it.

Right now I really lock my Bitcoin so even if there are emergencies case I won't take my Bitcoin from my wallet and use my emergency saving instead.
I experienced it then, when I got sick. I don't want to withdraw some of my Bitcoin investment because I know that it will go up a lot and to earn a lot of money. But I can't borrow money, especially because I don't want to get into debt. So there's no choice for me but to sell some of my investments. I just wondering what if I didn't use my investment until this time, surely I became rich now.

Yes these are few of my own choices and timings when I would go sell everything that I have in bitcoin wallet. However, I do have contingency plans for those situation where I’m already holding enough savings, health insurances, hood CIBIL score which is making sure that I’m getting good amount of loans whenever I need and also repaying if I’m taking any. This is securing my real world presence and that’s what I need so that I won’t be selling my bitcoins for long period of time to come. In all of them health is always priority followed by any family emergency.

Well, the only thing that can make me sell of my bitcoins is only if something better than bitcoin is invented. A defi technology that is superior to bitcoin. For now, my bitcoin goes no where.

Quote
Loss of source of income: A loss of a job or business might force me to sell some of my holdings if I exhaust all my savings. I and my family needs to be alive to enjoy our investment, so we need food and other basic needs to survive. it will be painful but it will be better than begging or taking loans.

This is why it is good to have more than one sources of income because the monies from it come in handy during the rainy day. The lack of job security is the motivation for me telling people to have another source of income, a side gig, side-hustle. The one you do after your 9-5. It will give you so much rest and peace of mind.

Quote
Business opportunity: Many people in my country are migrating to developed to seek better employment opportunities. Many of them are cheaply selling their properties and businesses. If I have the opportunity to buy a cheap house or business, I might decide to sell some of my bitcoin because the profit from the business will help me to buy more bitcoin in the future. House rent is expensive in my country and it is really taking a large chunk of my income. If I own a house, my house rent can be used to buy more bitcoin.

If you are into bitcoin trading the last thing on your mind would be to sell your bitcoins for any employment opportunities because it is already a full time job. It gets even more difficult to sell if you have been making fair profits from it. It is enough to convince you of it potential to pay you more than any other paid employment. Also, rather than selling off your bitcoins, you may even want to buy more.

Quote
Unfavorable government policies: If the government of my country decides to ban the holding or use of bitcoin, I might be forced to dispose of them. I will not want to be hiding from law enforcement agencies or risk being arrested. I don't wish this to happen but if it does, I will have to take that hard and painful decision.

In my country this happened. I do not think any government in their right sense would arrest anyone for owning bitcoin. The only warrant to arrest anyone is when they place a ban on using bitcoin for any transaction and an individual is caught flouting such law. But to arrest someone just for owning bitcoin is like an infringement on the fundamental human rights of the person.

Preferably, having other money saved for these interests is very necessary so that we don't sell the bitcoins that we have. For example, education or higher skills. we don't need to sell the assets we have when we have spare money to pay for it. I think, the condition where I might actually sell the bitcoins that I have is when I feel the price is very high, or maybe because of the pressing needs and the savings that I have are not sufficient.

Saving should be prioritized and more important than investment because life is full of surprises, and investments are not always profitable. But there will also be cases where the amount saved is not enough and if the emergency involves one's health or life then we should not hesitate to sell our bitcoins.

Right. The rule of investing bitcoin on our spare money is only found in books, because in reality most of us here even take minimal loans just to start with bitcoin, and for me that’s still valid and reasonable as long as you also have your main income that will pay your loan. However, in times you run out of money and you only have bitcoin in your wallet, I think selling a portion of it is inevitable especially if it comes with health issues or loss of main source of income. That’s the reason why we are advised to invest only on our extra money, so that we can also save for emergency funds intended to spend on unforeseen emergencies.

Investing with money you do not own is a red line I don't think anyone should cross.

We have Bitcoin enthusiasts here who are very optimistic about it and its future, this does not mean we should get complacent and expect our savings are 100% guaranteed. This is similar with security, you might never have a security risk for years using your personal wallet, but you shouldn't take it for granted in the illusion that you are entirely secure.

Always be wary of your security and stay mindful when investing.

OP, you made good points. We are investing on bitcoin to have a better life tomorrow, so that when bitcoin price hits the bull run,one can sell off some fraction to do something one can benefit from. Therefore,if you are not healthy ? How will you secure your investment to the day that you will sell it. It is better to be healthy and broke than to be sick and rich. Adding more knowledge or income to you is something good,so if it is to sell to acquire knowledge or job,it is worth it. I have a plan to execute after selling some part of my investment by 2025. Why am I investing if I don't have plans for it.

Send your Bitcoin should be a bad decision is there is something more important you want to use it for. We all have other businesses we are doing apart from the forum and improving our business idea and expanding it should not be a problem. If we have some Bitcoin left in our portfolio, we can decide to sell it to get our business fixed so that we can have other sources of income apart from the small earnings we are getting from signature campaign. We need to make a better choice now that we can lay out hands on something that will be giving us some profits.

Migration
Acquiring a skill and the rest.

Those who put all their money in bitcoin and call it savings, that's a big mistake. Savings are for emergencies, it needs to be a stable asset and won't depreciate in the short term.

Business opportunity, yes, it could be an opportunity but who knows how it'll go. Right now we are ~1 year away from the next halving, we all know what happens during these times, unless the business opportunity is really something out of this world I doubt it'll ever worth more than keeping BTC for a little longer.

Government policies, no matter what they do if you store them in your wallet and not on the exchanges how could they seize them? How could they prove that's your wallet and you're still able to access it? Just keep them and if the price skyrockets move to a crypto-friendly country.

It can be said that bitcoin is a good investment, providing a life-changing opportunity for many people, something other investments are difficult to do. But if we have any problem related to health and human life, then bitcoin is not the preferred choice. Moreover, if you can find a business that is more profitable than bitcoin and less risky, don't hesitate to make a decision. Remember, the ultimate goal of investing or working is to make a lot of money and change lives. I invest in bitcoin because it's my only chance to change my life, but if I'm lucky enough to get something better, I certainly won't miss it.

Yes, you're correct, but keep in mind that this is the reason why we always want to invest the amount we can afford to lose. If you want to feed your family, selling some bitcoin to do so isn't the right course of action. Instead, you should be patient and look for other solutions, holding on to your investment for a later time since the family can find other ways to at least get some spare change for feeding.

I think in this life we must have savings for health, for home repairs and for other unexpected costs, that's why so many people participate in insurance programs.

so that way we will not sell the bitcoins that we have because we have savings for health and so on.

but of course there is nothing wrong with selling bitcoins in an emergency because that is our right.
and indeed that's the point of investing rather than not investing at all.

There should be only one reason why you should sell you Bitcoin and that's to take profit because it has reached your initial target. The taking of profit must not be a final exit from investing in Bitcoin but just to secure your profit for that bull cycle while you wait on the market to correct before reinvesting and getting more Bitcoin than you initially had
Apart from this, always make sure you have enough savings to handle other life situations so you won't have to sell your Bitcoin portfolio when you get into financial difficulties. This is why we're recommended to only invest in Bitcoin with spare money and those are money you won't need for a very long time.
If you invest with urgent cash then that's when you'll have most of the problem you listed. You should have insurance for health issue, education and your business money should be different form your investment money.

Any urgent happenings and once-in-a-lifetime opportunities will consider us to sell our bitcoins or possibly a part of them. Apart from these reasons, I have a goal to reach this 2025. I am hoping to profit a significant amount because I want to relocate once again and then travel from place to place. Of course, I need to have a stable income too, maybe an apartment will do. I learned a lot last 2018 when I mismanaged my assets, this time I want to enjoy life but at the same time, I will check my assets in bitcoin, crypto, and stocks daily.

The only way that one can use bitcoin is for an Emergency and that is the best, those who have bitcoin are Known to be difficult to obtain, for me it has been with a lot of sacrifice and I don't even have one, I'm not ashamed, I can't deny that I have sometimes had to use a part of bitcoin, but Sometimes extra money is needed and bitcoin is always there, the main thing about this is that it has to be seen as a great investment and not as the easiest way out, The less the bitcoin is used, the better, because that way you save a lot.

Your list is good and I will say there are endless reasons or situations that will warrant you to sell your coin especially when it becomes your last resort for finance. I might consider selling if I need urgent finance and is the only one accessible by that time.

That is the reason why we are doing investment in the first place in order to solve the future problem. Health issues still remain the top priority that will warrant me selling some portion of my Bitcoin regardless. Other issues might seems minor to me and I will look for another alternative to get those issues solved.

As long you do still have other ways or options for you to solve out those minor problems without the need on spending or selling out your Bitcoins then you must do on that way but if you dont have any options

or ways for you to resolve out such problem then its not bad to sell a part of those yet these are the things which do savings do play on these kind of part or situation. This is why as early as we could or
on the time that we arent still experiencing hardships then it would be always ideal that you should consider on having investment and savings at the same time.

We dont know on what comes up next because there are lots of things that would be encounter ahead.
