If you are new in forum, it's strange to know about merit. If you know about merit, you should know what it is and it is easily to see it with pinned (sticky) threads.

  • Newbies - Read before posting (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1689727.0)
  • Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0)

Hi guys, i'm a new user in this forum and I just wanna know, how do I get merits on my post. Is it just by writing or are there any other task involved.
This is discussion forum so we only make post here taking part in different topics but what else task you have in mind? You only need to share your ideas and thoughts here but that should be on topic having something useful in it to be considered of quality on which basis you will get merits here.

There are different threads on the same topic and you can use forum search function but for you it would not come up with nice results so best is to do google search like this way

Code:
How to rank up and get merits bitcointalk
What is quality post bitcointalk

You will be redirected to all the threads based on this topic and you can take note from them and don't create similar topics as it's not advisable and of low quality.

There is topic to help you on this which you can go through to help you learn how to gain merits effectively: Ranking up is possible! 2900 Merits earned in less than 12 months! My 11 Hints! (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5098333.0)

So just make your way but the most important is learning and enhancing your knowledge with time which will at the end give you knowledge to take part in healthy discussions contributing more effectively and of high quality.

OP, with this being your first thread as a newbie, it's a bit wired, but well, it's easy to see merit on member's profile, I guess, merit is easy to get but doesn't come easily with this kind of thread. This is your first topic, if you want to earn merit, you must be productive in terms of helpful posts and replies to other members in the forum. Learning never ends, even in these forums where knowledge is not determined by the rank of members. Although there are also a lot of high-ranking memebers that are very knowledgeable about technology, Bitcoin technology, economics, politics, and other important stuff, perhaps if you are able to post with quality and any memeber or merit source finds your post helpful to them or other memebers in the forum, you can receive merit.

At this point, OP, merit should not be your priority; this thread is far beyond mere curiosity; it seems like you have other hidden intentions. But what ever, well, every one here was once a newbie, with a few having gabs as their thread. As a newbie, I suggest you should be asking questions like, "How can I find my way around the forum?" Start by reading those thread suggestions from @tranthidung.

You can also report some good merit worthy post to merit  source for you to receive merit but before then, you need to have quality post before you apply.

Good day pal, to earn merit make sure your quality of your chat is in detailed, make sure that you're going to reply is old post because you can be called as spammer, make sure that your reply in quote is connected to the topic whether your reply is long or short, contribute in this forum and lastly be who you are.

Welcome to this forum and I hope you can help some newbie someday and learn here .

Hi guys, i'm a new user in this forum and I just wanna know, how do I get merits on my post. Is it just by writing or are there any other task involved.

You earn merits base on the quality of what you post on the forum, anyone can decide to merit you or not base on how convinced or being touched they feels about what you have posted, you're not meant to beg for it or solicite for it, we have merit sources available on the forum saddled with the responsibility to do that, if i may advise you, learn to give out first before receiving, learn and have quality things to deliver, merits will come in later, but for now being a newbie, i think you need less to be concerned about merits than what to give or contribute.

Op good day and welcome to bitcointalk.org,
No further a do I would say that this topic is already been taken and also already been solved Op no offense but you must use the search button first before you make a topic. Yes, you don't know yet about the forum, but as far as I analyzed your topic it seems that you already know this forum before you created an account because the first topic you made is about merit and most real newbies don't ask that question cause most of a real newbie asks for advice what they gonna do since they are already here in the forum. But anyways about your question about how you get merits then one thing I can say is to stop asking about merit, and focus on your contributions then achievements will follow soon including merits. Since you claimed that you are a newbie here then you must read   rules and regulations here in the forum (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0) to avoid any mistakes and lead to a ban. There's a does and don't here in the forum you must be aware for that too. Anyways when you have enough time you can make a research about the topic you want to know and if you can not find then you are freely to ask.

This comment makes a lot of sense to me, because being useful to other is the only way to get merits here in the forum since merits is not a commodity that is sold in the market place you must have to work to earn otherwise forget about it so long as the forum members did not fine your contributions useful it may be hard to get rewarded with merits.
But once you are useful and share quality information the ops will be good to go, with time the rewards for those contributions will start rolling in.

You don't walk into a world-famous company and ask how to become a General Manager, get a company vehicle, and a six-figure salary.
You are at the beginning of your journey. You are at the bottom of the pyramid. If this is, in fact, your first journey here. Your focus should be on learning how the forum works and what it is that we do here. We discuss and share knowledge about Bitcoin, how to use it, where, how, and why. Once you reach a point where you can take part in such discussions, understand them, and share your own experiences, that's when your merit count will start increasing.

What do you know about Bitcoin?
Do you own any?
Do you play to buy/earn some?
How do you know about merits (as a new user), and what are you going to use them for?

I have a doubt for this like what I said above this Op make me think deeper because his/her first post is all about merits which is a real newbie don't do the same. Maybe he /she is in around for a couple of months or a year but know he created an account and then making this topic.

OP, if you're observant after reading a number of threads, your merit fishing may be successful. There are several threads on the forum where merit is given away almost "for free", I won't give you links, but I know users who are very cunning in this matter; they literally live and guard such threads.
Examples include baking a pie, carving a pumpkin, creating drawings, discussing SBF-Ross Ulbricht, and answering quizzes, although the latter is more difficult. ;D
Another thing is if you hunt for merit, but you are not a diligent reader, and then the creator of good posts, all your merits will not be worth anything, since your desire to earn extra money (and this is exactly what you obviously want) will become a pipe dream.
Make a choice.

Of course, it's not free and he will have to work hard for Fillippone to appreciate he's posts, but at least there is a chance to get merit.

There is nothing wrong with entering contests like carving a pie or baking pumpkins, or even a drawing contest. The main thing is that the beginner is active and has an incentive to receive merit. After all, it is the merits that will push him to action, which, perhaps, will result in good posts and the birth of a future famous forum user. Would well-known bitcointalks' members appear if they did nothing and only whined that there was no way to get merit? OP understands what he needs to progress, and therefore, has a chance to achieve what he wants. If will be active.

Here is something similar where he can participate with drawing skills, and also earn extra money if have a talent for creating avatars - Whirlwind.money | Avatar Contest | Create avatars and win BTC | Ends May 7th! (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5447982.msg62053365#msg62053365)

You don't need a merit OP, this is your second post on this forum and you are already asking for merits, that's not cool, use your time to learn something on the forum, I will like to know why you come on this forum, I wonder why merit earning seem like your first priority right now, if you want to earn merit you have to keep engaging in some good conversations on the forum and if your contribution is solid enough you will earn a merit or some merits.

some newbies may make annoying questions. but if they don't know, what's wrong with a question?
indeed they are all there, and the OP only needs to search the forums. but it's perfectly natural for a newbie to ask.

OP, you've got enough answers already. I hope you can get the answer to what you want. read more information in the forum, it will give you more knowledge. then you can look for other information on this forum. it's free.

There is no need to worry about merit at the moment. Merit will look for you when you do the needful in the forum. How do you do the needful? It's simple! Make quality posts that are educative and helpful to the forum members, offer helpful comments on other people's post. However, while trying to be helpful, please abstain from plagiarism as it is a serious offense in this forum that will lead to temp or perm ban. I can see you've been offered some links to forum rules and all you need to know in the previous comments. Go through those threads and read in order to familiar yourself with the forum. You'll be surprised seeing merits following you if you stick to the forum ethics.

Hello and welcome to the Bitcointalk forum. Jimmycrooks, we are delighted to have you here in this wonderful forum, and we all wish you a wonderful learning and interaction experience because I am confident you are in the right place to learn so much about Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general.

Hi guys, i'm a new user in this forum and I just wanna know, how do I get merits on my post. Is it just by writing or are there any other task involved.
As a new user in the forum, I believe you should focus on the forum's importance and go through the forum rules and regulations before requesting to know how to get merits; although it's not a bad idea to be hungry for merits at first, you should be calm and study the forum first.

Nonetheless, there are several ways to earn merit in this forum, which can be broadly classified as the quality of your responses and interactions in the forum.
- Making quality and educative posts
- Given correct and appropriate answers to a question asked in the forum
- Sharing useful information in the forum that helps the forum members.

Learning on how to make good/high quality post is needed in order for you to post good/high quality posts which many people will find it helpful especially those who are still at learning phase. Sharing knowledge or information that haven't shared on this forum would also help you receive merit. Anyway, don't focus too much on earning merit. If you do all those things then merit will come on your way without thinking too much about how to get merit. Not to make someone affected or being criticized by me but asking for merits is already kind of having a negative side which most likely won't get merited. I suggest you make research yourself and then ask here later on.

We really can't help when someone introduce and teach Cryptocurrency to someone else who doesn't know crypto yet. Oh no, I am worried about merit and I would like to ask on how to earn merit  ;D. I think OP had enough answer and yet didn't reply again on how to become knowledgeable about Crypto. If I am wrong then, it could be a second account from a bounty hunter since the first thing to ask is about getting merits instead of how to make good posts.

how come if you want to get merit when this is only your first post? You have not thought about how to do the basics in the forum as rules and some prohibitions have you read all that?

@tranthidung has spelled it out for newbies just starting out in the forums.

When you have lots of posts and give lots of good and useful posts, the merit will come by itself, you don't need to think about merit coming the first time while you don't do anything, so keep working and then see your own work and let other people judge his.

See other people's suggestions it will help you.

Many topics allow you to read about how to rank up. This means that there are many guide topics in this forum that can lead you to answers to your questions.
Don't focus on rank and merit. In particular, my advice is for you to try to develop your potential here because everyone who is active in the forum will see and judge us, if it is valuable and useful for other people, then other people will also appreciate it.

Let's learn together for something useful for our progress and the forum.

Welcome to the forum! Merits are rewards for good posts, so if you want to get merits you have to make valuable contributions (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5109908.0) to current discussions. I wouldn’t worry much about merits on my first day, search for knowledge and your time here will be worth something.

The first task of getting merit to your post is to create valuable unique posts that will help or solve the issue of others, participate in the community, particularly in the meta, and make contributions to the forum, particularly in the technical and beginners and help area.

Getting merits is always the easiest thing here but you won't just get merits by posting, what you needs is to develop yourself to start making good quality post and contribution to the forum than just focusing on the merits earning. Your sole purpose shouldn't be focused on the merits rather you could get yourself familiarized with forum guides, also trying to read through most of these thread here there have been several people whom have asked this same questions so to avoid being ban you have to develop the mindset of reading to know when to post and not.
All the way, Welcome to the Bitcointalk.org forum a place where you meet a new families that are all ready to help you out with any form of questions concerning the latest happening around the digital system.

Hallo Op, this is your first post since registering on the forum. Start reading some of the pinned threads on the main board, there you will find what you are looking for. You have to think about how to make quality posts or answer questions from other users that indicate you can contribute to the forum by helping other users.

One of the mistakes that newbies make when joining forums is being lazy to read. The forum has several rules that must be obeyed by anyone who wants to exist here, at different times you can ask questions when you feel confused about something that you don't understand properly.
I thought some of the threads @tranthidung (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5448040.msg62056596#msg62056596) recommended could serve as a reference for your progress while on the forum.

  • write informative and quality posts
  • do the forum a service
  • use your skill to your advantage
  • sometimes its all about being part of a gang that will always recognize you and drop those merits your way

Also if there's any other thing I need to know about this forum rules and regulations Maybe, that'd be appreciated. Thank you and happy holidays

In the name of trying to get quality posts, dont try plagiarism to try to look knowledgeable or whatever  reasons as this will only get the ban hammer used on you.

Your intention must first change. Joined the forum not only for the purpose of merit. You have a lot to know and a lot to tell from this forum if your main objective is to get merit then you will not know anything from the forum but you can tell something to someone.

First of all you imagine in your mind there is no such thing as merit in this forum. Your goal is to share important information with everyone as per forum rules. And try to know the things that you don't know. There are various threads open for you to know about different topics, you can share your opinion in those threads and express your interest to know. You will always try to post constructively in the forum and not share anything irrelevant. If you can follow these things then you will see that you don't have to worry about merit. Constructive posts already qualify you.

Why are you too hasty discuss merit in the first post.
I think you don't need to create a new topic to discuss how to get merit for Newbies, all of that has been discussed by Lauda here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1689727.0).
When you come here one thing you should not miss, namely reading. You can find ways on how to get merit without creating this topic, after all, this kind of thing has been discussed a lot before. One of them is like the topic made by Boy_tilap (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5446112.0) and the discussion is still active there too.

If you are new in forum, it's strange to know about merit.

Sounds pretty much like an alt account to me. It's just a hunch I have, which I wouldn't use as evidence in a trial, but it's certainly someone who knew the forum from before in some other way.

First of all my dear friend welcome on this forum. Everyone is on learning stage. And if you are here and you want to learn so you can learn many things which you don't know. And you are asking that how you can get merits on your posts. There are many merited posts you can see that posts and you will learn that how they get the post.
Before Posting some points which you should keep in mind that are.
Is my post is a Quality post?
Is this post is helping others which they don't know?
Is this post is according to the forum rules?

And after posting you shouldn't think that this is a Quality post and deserve merits. Means your first priority should not the merits. Your first priority should be a Quality post.

Welcome to these fantastic forums, where you may discover everything there is to know about bitcointalk.org. Now all you have to do is read the forum rules and guidelines.
Hi guys, i'm a new user in this forum and I just wanna know, how do I get merits on my post. Is it just by writing or are there any other task involved.
Although after we join the site, we constantly require merits, as a newcomer, your focus isn't supposed to be on where to obtain merit from your first post. I'm not sure, but we need to familiarize ourselves with the forum's workings. By publishing quality content, you can earn merit. Furthermore if you put your mind in only how to gain merits you may end up without the basic knowledge of how bitcoin/cryptocurrency works
Also if there's any other thing I need to know about this forum rules and regulations Maybe, that'd be appreciated. Thank you and happy holidays
There are numerous things you should be aware of.
1. Avoid engaging in plagiarism; if you steal from a contest or steal from the internet and post it here, your account will be permanently banned.
2: Read up on cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin to gain better knowledge about the currency so that you can respond to posts with insightful content.

The funny thing is that you can give good advice to the OP in terms of earning merit. But what makes me wonder is that you yourself still haven't gotten merit even though you have made a post and after I tried to check all the posts you have made so far, I was immediately surprised and understood why you didn't get merit but could only give advice to OP. And if I may know why you are so good at giving advice to others, but you yourself have never carried out the suggestion.

As long as you make valuable contributions to the forum, earning merit in the forum is not difficult.

But since you're a new member and I think you should learn more first, especially about the forum rules, I will  never urge you to start a post or a comment right away.So it will be preferable to frequent the forum to see how things are progressing.op you need seriously knowledge in order to contribute valuable things to the forum.

Don't be eager to earn merit, if not you will end up being a spammer in the forum which may lead your account to neutral trust.

OP, I see that this is your first post on the forum, and that you became a member only a few days ago.
So instead of introducing yourself to the forum community, and sharing your interests, your first question is about merit.
By using the simple search option, you would find hundreds of such questions on this forum and immediately see the answer.
The answer is very simple. If you want to get something, you have to give something first, and what that depends solely on you, your knowledge, experience, interests etc.

The user might not be trying to get merits at all. Some join here with the sole purpose of joining bounties and getting some pay from that, and there are bounties that do not require one to get any merits.

If many of such users joined the community, did more reading and learning, I am confident they could be as good as any member we have on the forum.

There is nothing wrong in asking how to get merits because merits is a very big part of this forum. It is something we cannot shy away from. Without merits ranks would be stocked and stagnant and the forum may become boring.
Everyone in the forum needs merit and it is good to know how to earn it legitimately.

Op, you get merits when you make quality posts and quality posts are the posts that provide information and solve people's problem.

1 post and 1 activity. This question is not what you need now. What you need is to be active and while you are then you can visit some thread yourself to understand the merit system very well and why it was introduced. If you want to know that much about it you have to check the meta board but it is still early for merit to bother your mind. You need to enjoy the forum while making your thread and responding to post to the best of your knowledge.and you can get some merit that way.

Asking about how to get merit was basically fine, but what was problem was how he had directly asked about the merit system since his first post. If OP is aware that merit is needed to rank up, then he should already know how he got it without having to ask.

I honestly don't want to kick it too hard, but it's hard to believe newbie would ask about the merit of his first post unless he was mentored to be here. But welcome to the bitcointalk.org forum OP, if you haven't been introduced yet.

it's not that they haven't read or studied about the wider issue of gifts. I think those who create an account just to join the bounty campaign are the ones who have experience in forums. it could be that the members participating in the bounty campaign are members who have been on the forum longer than us. more of them have starter account farms.
they know the information in the forums. they just don't want to develop themselves. they weren't hunting for Merit, it wasn't that they weren't capable. they just don't want it.

Asking for help about getting merit is not wrong, but your main focus on this forum shouldn’t be only about merits. If you put enough time on learning and post valuable conversation or help anyone on this forum with your knowledge or expertise you will get merit.

Merit helps you to stand out from the crowd and with only merit and activities you can rank up. So if you spend time on this forum you will find a way to get merit and rank up.

That's what I advised OP when I replied here to give OP an advice on what's best that OP should do here in this forum. If you focus on earning merits then that's the time you will notice that you hardly earn a merit compared to other forum members who receive many merits. Spending time in the forum is good but it would be better if the time you will spend in the forum is for learning then you will become a constructive poster which will help you get merits. It is also important if OP will learn how this forum works and also following forum rules which is very important.

Welcome to the forum, if you are looking for merit, it's other members of the forum that will give you the merit, if anyone thinks your post is useful and it worth meritng, they might decide to merit it. Everything is not just about writing, make sure your post is meaningful, make sure people are benefiting from your post and also make sure you avoid plagiarism. People that are despirate to get merit always end up plagiarisming and punishment for plagiarism is ban, so you have to be very careful and don't spam on the forum.

We know merit  is very important in this forum, but it is not always good to focus or give attentions to only getting merits because that will show that you are only eager to be accepted into a campaign, merit is always given for a quality post made,so it is not merit you have to look out for, what should be very important to you is making quality and reasonable posts that will be likeable by anyone who reads it.Making quality post do not only make you known in the forum, but it also gives you that edge above other members on thesame rank with you.Any forum member who disciplines himself on making good topics, posts that will attract the mind of the readers will definitely grow in merit and in rank in the forum,no doubt about that. Therefore,In as much as you need merits, also try to increase the quality of posts you make because that's what will bring the merits.

i can only give suggestions, improve the quality of your posts and let the merit come to you by itself.

if you see senior accounts that have a lot of merit, that means their contribution and also their reputation for years in this forum is no longer in doubt.

to find out the rules in this forum, you can look at the topic that was given a PIN in this thread.

Speaking about getting a merit on a post, is some how funny although to me I find it funny because you take your time do some research and when you're done with all that, you post it with a smile on your face hoping that it will draw attention "yes" it will but after having like 5plus comments you find out that your post have no merit put scroll down to other comments you see merits on other people's opinion to your post and not yours. That's really painful but what do we do? Let it go, continue the same thing on and on but one day merit will come like a surprise.

do you mean senior member rank accounts or older forum members?. If you mean senior member ranks then I would say it is not entirely correct because some forum members even those who have Legendary member rank got airdropped merits when merit is implemented although there are some forum members who started as a newbie with 0 merits until they reach the legendary member rank because of their contribution to the forum. It may not be easy to get merits but it is not possible. I am once a newbie with 0 merits untill I have what I have right now and I won't forget those who have helped me achieve this because of their guidance.

It is because people like that only think of earning merits for different reasons like increasing their rank to join bounty campaigns instead of thinking how to contribute in this forum or how to make a good/high quality posts then merits will surely come.

Merit is required for a user to change his rank in bitcoin forum. However, to get merit, several rules have to be followed. If you post outside of certain forum rules, you will not get merit. If you want to get merit then share active and constructive information regularly.
Also if you have posted off topic then there will be no chance of getting merit. You should learn how to share good information from the profiles of various legendary members of the forum. Moreover, you should refrain yourself from copying and pasting, remember that in order to gain merit, you must share your unique information with everyone.

Is something I experienced when I first came here, you know sometimes too much expectations makes one to think of having merit in every post you make, but now I've come to understand that when you put much effort in your post and let it slide, the reward will come without you knowing.

Getting merit is not very difficult and it is difficult for many people who do not have proper knowledge to get merit. To get merit you should first focus on your post quality and how informative the post is. And try to open a topic about which no one has opened a topic yet but it may be important to forum users. Then you can get merit.  Again it is possible to earn merit from many contests like many have earned huge amount of merit in pumpkin contest.  Many have crossed the full member rank by opening a new account only by getting merit from the pumpkin contest. So stay active in the forum and try different strategies.

Merit is something you earn when your post seems knowledgeable to user and the user may decide to give you Merit for it.
You don't have to repeat it a thousand times without some very relevant additions.

Thought the OP wasn't interested in continuing the discussion after he created the thread, this certainly allows for a lot of repeated replies since basically almost all advice are the same between one user and another. Hope this gets locked soon, anyways this is a very general question that shouldn't take 4-5 pages.
