Title: [Help] Newbie here. Is this website safe to use?
Post by: kureca88 on April 24, 2023, 08:31:20 PM
Hello, everyone,

I am new to Bitcoin, and I recently received a Bitcoin transaction on get. The transaction seems legitimate, because the customer of mine showed me a transaction receipt from an ATM and my wallet address written on it, but they require me to log in their website, create and account and verify my ID & SSN in order to claim the bitcoin to my wallet, which makes no sense to me smh. I am not sure if the website is trustworthy and i found nearly NADA info regarding it over the web. I am hesitant to accept the transaction until I know for sure that the platform is legit.

Has anyone used getcoinsmarket.com before? Is it a reliable platform for Bitcoin transactions? How can I verify the authenticity of the transaction and ensure that it is not a scam?

I would appreciate any guidance or advice on this matter. I am new to the world of Bitcoin, and I want to ensure that I am using a safe and secure platform.

Thank you in advance for your help!

I heard about getcoinsmarket.com site for the first time. I also did not manage to load it at my place, I tried from several browsers. Checking the whois database, the site is only 319 days old, which is enough to gain some kind of reputation, but not enough to be considered reliable. but in a short search, I didn't find any significant experiences about this site. I would not give them any personal data, document ID or whatever.
What you need to know, Bitcoin is not considered yours until you have complete control over it. To have your own BTC address, you need a wallet (again under your control) with a private key.
By checking your address on the blockchain explorer (https://www.blockchain.com/explorer), you can see if you really have any amount on it and the mentioned transaction.

Code:
Whois Record for GetCoinsMarket.com
Dates 319 days old
Created on 2022-06-09
Expires on 2024-06-09
Updated on 2022-06-09

You need to give a little more information in order to get better instructions on what to do.

This looks kind of fishy, and I have a feeling this is likely to be a scam, because although I haven't received Bitcoin from an Bitcoin ATM. But from what I know, all a user needs to send or receive bitcoin is just to send his wallet address and have his fund deposited into his wallet in few minute, which has nothing to do with someone registering an account on a new strange website, as I just checked and couldn't find any reliable info about this on the internet.

You cannot receive bitcoins to your wallet if you have not created an account, it's definitely a scam. For you to receive Bitcoin to a wallet you need to have created it and gotten a seedphrase which you can store, this generates public keys and then addresses you can send to someone and they send bitcoins to you there.

Do not submit your personal details.

I've heard of this scam scheme before with job offers and selling stuff.

Instead of asking for your bitcoin address, the buyer/employer will redirect you to some no-name exchange which they secretly own and type-in some 'numbers' on your account. In some cases these scammers will not stop with just getting you personal documents, they would ask for money as well e.g. you need to pay taxes to us.

The website seems to be inaccessible for some time, see: https://web.archive.org/web/20230000000000*/getcoinsmarket.com

I suggest staying away but if you're not convinced yet, a good middle ground approach is to: ask them if you could just give a bitcoin address for them to send the money to. Absolutely avoid signing up to some no-name exchange.

Here's a website for bitcoin wallets: https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet - I recommend electrum.

EDIT:

Nvm the middle ground approach. On a second thought, I worry you could expose yourself to further mind tricks from the scammers if you engage in a conversation with them again.

Based on my short research, it seems that the site is not that bad and I don't see any scam report.
Based on this, https://www.scamadviser.com/check-website/getcoinsmarket.com.

I don't think it's reliable but it seems they are in 10 months of service and don't have a scam report.
I didn't try this exchange but I recommend using a non-custodial wallet to receive Bitcoin as your wallet as well.  Electrum (https://electrum.org/#download) might be an ideal one.

If you want to proceed, do your own research as well, and here's how to check legitimate websites.

  • Domain age
  • Contact information
  • Reputation
  • Last one before using, reading the terms

The best thing you can do now is to ask for the Bitcoin transaction using the link given above which I doubt you've been scammed because it asks you to create an account.

It is giving me the feels that it's a scam. Why would someone will require you to visit a website when you've just made a transaction? What's done is done and there's no need for anyone to reach out to you or asking you to login some info. From that part, as you've said that it doesn't really make sense at all. I don't know the website but if that customer of yours has shown you some receipt then you better verify the transaction from looking at the network by entering that address of yours and see if there's really a transaction that has been made. It may be simple as it is but you've said that you're still new and everyone is going to be patient to you. Actually, how did your customer know that it's your bitcoin wallet address? Is it posted in your store somewhere or there's the qr code? Do you mind posting your bitcoin wallet address for us to check the transaction?

Most likely, scammers collect all the information about users on this site in order to use it later. Disclosure of your data is fraught with consequences. Are you expecting someone to pay you in Bitcoin? What wallet did you create? Your entire post screams that the scammers clearly want more from you. Why do they need your documents? Every time someone on the network demands personal information from you, it should serve as a red flag, and you should immediately stop contact, as gullible people can be very well manipulated by scammers. Just cut off communication.

Since it goes beyond asking for your wallet address only and they’re asking you for personal details, it is no doubt a scam and you should stop any transactions with them immediately. If you were expecting the bitcoin from someone you don’t know and only met online, then maybe you’ve been interrogated secretly without your knowledge for them to know that you’re new into bitcoin and so they want to take advantage and leverage on your lack of knowledge on bitcoin to dupe you. Security and privacy is one of the most important factors you should always consider in bitcoin and you should not trade it for anything else because the repercussions is always disastrous.

Don't always believe what people say because they can frame things up, secondly, don't trust any clip or image shown you as evidence of payment made, confirm the reception by yourself into your account address, thirdly, once a transaction is sent in bitcoin it is not reversible except it it was not sent, showing you it was sent and requesting you to verify your identity and tge likes seems unbelievable enough to trust them, they may want to trick you, you don't beed a KYC procedures before you cab received a transaction from the sender, don't let them deceive you.

which makes no sense to me smh. I am not sure if the website is trustworthy and i found nearly NADA info regarding it over the web. I am hesitant to accept the transaction until I know for sure that the platform is legit.

Once you're dealing with bitcoin, this is not a token which must only be accessed through a centralized website, you need not a third party host to accept a peer to peer transaction, don't fall a victim before you realize what they may be upto, it is clear enough that it was not sent, they only want to phish on your own details maybe to further get more of your being vulnerable before they attack, take heed and don't give your details.

Bitcoin transactions can be made from your wallet or your customer's wallet. no need for a more complicated way to link your wallet to their website. I've never heard of it, don't know for the other members. but from what you have told, there are indications of scammers there. so be careful.
simply offer to send Bitcoin directly to your wallet. if they can't do it, or they set other conditions. You can leave customers like that. it will be safer for you.

The website is unfamiliar to me, but based on your description, it definitely runs counter to the actual process of making a bitcoin transaction. It is strange, particularly the part in which it requires you to submit personal documents. The absence of information regarding the website is a serious issue that warrants consideration, especially given the possibility of data theft and leakage. So, if I were you, I'd just steer clear of it.

This looks very fishy. I mean, what kind of guarantee did you find after your private address appeared on the Atm receipt? And the strangest thing is that proof of receiving bitcoin does not require receipts for verification, and it is enough to put the address on any of the blockchain search engines to know all the balance information on it. Can you explain to us your ownership of that address? Did you receive it from the site? How so without registering as the master asked you?
There are curious details in your account that prove two things :
- First, you are about to be scammed.
- Secondly, you lack a lot of the necessary technical know-how before entering one of the fields of crypto investment.

I am just too curious to know how the sender know the address which is yet to be created by the receiver? So just use your common sense here and definitely it's a scam trick to deceive you.

If you really need the coins in your control then create a wallet in Electrum and there you can find address which you can share it to other party and ask them to send funds to this address and also make sure it atleast has 3 or 4 confirmation.

As far as I know, this is the procedure if you receive bitcoin from someone who's using ATM :

1. Just get the transaction ID or receipt from the customer to show that the transaction happened.
2. Just make sure to check the Bitcoin transaction on a blockchain explorer to see if it's legit and confirmed. You can just use a blockchain explorer like blockchain.com or blockchair.com to check the transaction by entering the transaction ID.
3. Once it's confirmed and legit, you can grab the Bitcoin or send it to your other bitcoin address or whatsoever

So, if anyone asking you to provide any personal information, such as your ID or SSN, in order to claim Bitcoin sent to your wallet, I think it's kind of fishy. Moreover, we have a little information about this website. If you're not sure, then don't do it.

As a newbie I can understand your concern but how can you ensure that your transaction appears authentic? Do you verify the transaction on a blockchain explorer?

First of all, I'm failed to get access the site you mentioned. Furthermore, I could not find any reviews or feedback from other users for this site. It's best idea to avoid using a website if there's a complete lack of information available about it online.

Although I'm unsure of how these appear, I'm positive they're a deception. I doubt that you will simply receive a text message informing you that you have some bitcoin and that all they require is your identification and other documents because you recently transacted with them. I'm not familiar with this website, but it seems odd to me even if I see that several of my friends claim it's for bitcoin transactions. There are other ways to do bitcoin transactions, so you need to cease using these websites immediately. In my opinion, these things could be a hoax. Because what you said seems unusual to the majority of us, and I feel that if it were true, someone would have discussed it here. Once its legitimacy has been established, you may come back and use it again.

This is what I think. You do not need to subscribe to a site given to you by a customer to receive the bitcoin he claimed to have sent to you. It is most probably a scam. Even relying on a receipt from an ATM is not a guarantee that it was sent. You can ask him to show you the transaction on the blockchain, not an ATM receipt. Another red light is the site asking you to release your private documents and data. The getcoinsmarket.com site you mentioned, it is my first hearing it. Am advising you to avoid doing anything with such an unknown site asking you for your private information.

This is a sign of a scam, and as soon as he gets your information, he will have access to your wallet and steal all of your savings because con artists always make offers that tempt people to become greedy and fall into their traps. I haven't seen anyone ask for identification documents before giving them access to a bitcoin that is being sent to your account, and you guys didn't have any deals together before to be sure that he wants to send you your own share.
You did a fantastic thing by sharing this in the forum, and my recommendation to you is to either let the individual alone or in order to prevent being scammed.

The easiest way i verify trustworthy websites is through youtube. I just search for them there and watch the reviews.

i hope this tip helps.

People are willing to sacrifice their privacy by submitting the documents also just to earn some free money which is not possible at all.As you are saying that when these scammers demand any such documents from you communication should be ended but we have seen across forum also many cases where they still believe them until the scam happens regretting later on.The data breaches and using your documents by selling them on dark web is not new thing but for people it's still normal as they don't realise how big risks is involved in this.

Its have been scam old method how to make victim believing about trusted website deposited Bitcoin, the scammed giving us all data from email and password how to make victim believing about this site most trusted. I think need to deposit some Bitcoin in that website for withdrawing all Bitcoin fund there.  Don't waste your time with this trick because last three years ago I got this offering and know totally scam way how to earn bitcoin.

Better don't be excited by looking for with how many bitcoin in website giving by scammer and he ask for depositing few bitcoin available to withdraw all bitcoin assets there.
