Title: Will chatgpt really destroy the job market?
Post by: Fuso.hp on May 29, 2023, 06:08:17 AM
Since ChatGPT was launched in November last year, this AI technology has created a huge response across the globe.  This technology has gained so much popularity that people are using this technology in almost every field. Any math can be easily solved through this technology, any unknown matter can be easily known through this technology, so there is a lot of doubt in everyone's mind about this technology that this technology will destroy the job market or not?

When asked about this, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said the technology will never destroy the job market. Rather, this technology will solve things that people never know about.  Since all tasks can be solved easily through this technology, this bot system may be used instead of humans in various work fields.
If this technology is used in the workplace, many people will lose their jobs.

If anyone thinks so maybe it's just opinions. indeed what has been created is basically for the convenience of us working too. Our real task here and should be to appreciate what the OpenAI Team has tried to create this technology for mankind and use it wisely. I am sure that if there is a gap in terms of operations there will be further development from them.

No one needs a soothsayer to know that AI generally has its good part and also has its disadvantageous part and will surely deprive people of jobs if care is not taken. With the world's population increasing daily, it's paramount to know that more jobs would be needed daily and the effect would be more pronounced if AI is allowed to do too much of human jobs. The effect might however at times be unnoticed just like the way ATM machines took over the work of many people unnoticed. But if carelessly implemented/allowed, it would really be a threat to the labour market.

Nonetheless, I believe that AIs are still in their initial stages, and as people/countries clamour for developments and do not want to take the backbeat in this, they would still leave them to practically ascertain these effects (good or bad). It's after then that I believe regulators would allow some, and clamp down on many for the betterment of all.

If we keep in mind that technology is developing rapidly and in just 10-20 years we had a dramatic improvement in every aspect, then yes, we can say that an AI technology (not ChatGPT alone) can destroy the job market. But here is the thing, absolutely every innovation that improves our quality of life and makes things easier, always destroys certain job market but there are always space for these people to move on different one.
Btw it will be a long journey, people will have to be more educated because manual unskilled labor will no longer be able to do basic work and if they don't move into a skilled labor category, they'll suffer. It will be a painful at start, for a while but over time I think we will achieve a state where people will rarely work and live on pension.

so there is a lot of doubt in everyone's mind about this technology that this technology will destroy the job market or not?
I do not think ChatGPT will increase unemployment. The bot is used to get job more easier and faster. It is just like the Google assistant, Siri, Bixby or Alexa which are also AI, although ChatGPT is more. I do not see a way it can lead to unemployment than to lead to more employment becusee this AI companies too are employing workers.

But the problem are some bots that may be created that can lead to unemployment, this kind of bots will be able to handle the task that people to be employ will render. ChatGPT is somehow among but I do not think it would be to the extent that it would lead to higher employment. The kind of bot that will lead to employment are the ones that will do the work of human without the need of human, example is the bot created for the work if police, security, used in industries and companies to replace humans.

If this technology is used in the workplace, many people will lose their jobs.
I think even if it is used in a work places, it would be used by people that are employed.

This is only the beginning and we have been seeing a lot of people having crazy interest in it including companies trying to cut down there expenses utilizing the use of IA in there customer care representatives since it can to programmed in a way that it could answer vast questions from there customers.

Since the launch of chatgpt, I don't think it has reach up to a year making varieties of work easier to execute. We can't day that that artificial intelligence would dominate and make someone jobless yet because the system is still being upgraded and has not gotten to the level where there would vast competition compare to what the humans' knowledge can do and execute.

If anyone thinks so maybe it's just opinions. indeed what has been created is basically for the convenience of us working too.
That could be the reason why artificial intelligence like the chatgpt and others are created, but it could move from that to another level where people can further program it to do an extraordinary work for hacking and scamming people. We might not know wthe potential and capability of artificial intelligence but that would be until some certain period when people can reconfigure the use to carry out unethical jobs.

I doubt if the number that would be employed to do the job through the use of an AI bot can be equated to the number of employed staff that were mainly doing the job before the involvement of AI bot.  It's like this, every businessman wants to cut down expenses in workplace and maximize profits as much as possible, so if for a task that 10 workers are assigned to execute, and it's discovered that an AI bot can perform that task just with use of 5 workers then it's obvious that the other 5 workers has just turned unemployed cause they would be layed off to cut expenses.

AI might reduce employment, but this thread is specifically about the existing ChatGPT as of today's world. But generally speaking, AI companies will increase too and more people will be employed.

Computers are created for good reasons, but most people that are exposed to cyber attack today are through the internet using devices like laptop and phone. Common knives were created for good reasons but it can be used to kill. Guns and other things are created for good reasons too. There is nothing good in life that can not be used negatively too. AI could be a threat tomorrow.

there are two possibilities.
1. Chatgpt is absolutely destroying the freelance market especially designers and programmers.
2. Chatgpt helps freelancers get their work done quickly.

some business owners won't want to get tired of doing their program or design work because there are other things, now this should be handed over to freelancers who need it, but that's not all. I'm sure with chatgpt everything will be much easier, not to destroy the freelance market, but to help them work.

There have been mixed opinions on this since Chatgpt was launched. But so far, it's all hypothetical and there hasn't been any evidence that AI will increase unemployment instead of creating more jobs. In my opinion, AI will definitely have an impact on employment and many people will be unemployed. But that will make us more developed and people will find ways to adapt to everything, maybe when AI develops more there will be many other professions and we will have more choices. After all, AI is also created by humans, we are still one level above it.

    -  If AI is used at work, there is no doubt that many will lose their jobs. Maybe the 10 employees in a company can be replaced by just one AI robot. Because the AI robot does not get tired.

That's why the only disadvantage that I see is that it has no emotion and I think it's difficult to have that in a business. So it's still different if a normal person will work in the same company. But from another angle, from what I see, AI still helps in other things in my opinion.

Artificial intelligence will affect the job market and bring changes, but it will not destroy the Job market. It will make some professions and skills more relevant for the future and some other professions and skills outdated. As someone who is concerned for themselves, if you are in the Job Market, since Artificial intelligence has not yet fully matured, you have to be able to tell if you fall into the category that will loose their jobs to these Artificial intelligence or the category that artificial intelligence will make better.

If your job is threatened, now is still a good time to become more relevant by improving on your skills or degree in profession so you are not served out of the job market when Artificial intelligence begin to restructure the Job market.

If various work field, that once belongs to humans, and can he please tell us where those people are going to be replaced once the AI takes over? I don't believe this crap claim because it's obvious that those humans won't be needed anymore.

Once the inflation problem begins, many companies start sending their workers home, right? Imagine if AI replaces those workers, who will benefit the most? The CEO and co isn't it? They won't have to pay salaries to AI and inflation won't affect them much compared to when they are still paying humans.

Sorry I am looking at the bigger picture, I refuse to accept.

If this technology is used in the workplace, many people will lose their jobs.

It has been estimated that artificial intelligence will cause about 300 million full-time jobs loss. Recently IBM boss Arvind Krishna stated that the company will replace 7,800 workers with AI. Amazon, Meta, Dropbox, and Microsoft are all investing heavily in artificial intelligence technologies that will equally make them shift some job functions to bots which will reduce the human workforce. But some economists believe that AI technology will also create more jobs. Every new invention will make some workers obsolete and create more jobs for others.

Secondly, these artificial intelligence tools will have to be supervised by humans, so man is still indispensable. AI tools will be effective in carrying out routine tasks and might not be able to reason and handle issues based on specific situations or circumstances. This means humans will always be around because of their ability to reason and be emotional.

The best any worker would do is acquire skills that will help him utilize AI tools to make the job simple and effective. Every worker should learn how AI will affect and advance the job specification.

When machines were initially discovered, their innovative capabilities were divided into different parts, aiding humans in making their work more efficient and faster. Surprisingly, instead of causing job losses for humans, these machines have actually made their tasks easier. Similarly, I believe that ChatGPT will bring about similar outcomes. It will assist humanity in research and development, contributing to advancements and improvements.

Moreover, bots have been in existence for several years even prior to the introduction of this technology. Bots have played huge role in aided programmers in accomplishing complex and laborious tasks that would have otherwise been challenging for them. Hence, I have doubts regarding whether this technology will pose a roadblock for the job market.

ChatGPT could destroy the current job market, especially if ChatGPT develops even more advanced because not many workers can improve their work skills and be promoted in the company.

But if ChatGPT can be used well in many companies by working side by side with workers, I don't think it will happen because workers and ChatGPT will help each other to get the job done. But for other companies, some may lay off their workers because ChatGPT can replace their jobs.

If the workers are given the opportunity to improve their abilities, I think they will use it so they don't get laid off from their jobs. And let's just hope that the company listens to workers' demands and pays attention to them.

A similar situation was when the steam engine appeared :)
Everyone decided that now there will be no manual labor (which was about 99%), there will be no horse traction (which also gave 99% of all transportation). From reality - yes, only horse-drawn carts were massively replaced, because. the steam engine turned out to be just much more efficient and profitable ...
... then there was a transition to an internal combustion engine, and there was hysteria - what to do with the miners, the economy would collapse, ...
And many many times we experienced "machines will replace people"! :)
These are all turns of evolution and technological progress. So it was, so it is, so it will be!
Perhaps some part, and the most inefficient one, will be replaced by AI, but there will be no massive layoffs.
There is also a global deterrent: if, for example, we simulate a situation where AI, conditionally tomorrow, replaced 85% of all workers in all industries. What will happen?
COLLAPSE.
I explain why - a huge number of people will remain on the street without income, and these are CONSUMERS AND BUYERS of goods and services. The question is who will buy and consume? Without this, no economy will work! Both AI and mega technology companies will be left without markets, which will lead to their collapse. There will always be a balance and some kind of natural selection.

It will not destroy anything about the job market by any means, it is us that needed to understand the righful application of the use of ChatGPT where applicable and necessary, the development of this modern and advanced technology is not aimed at giving us discomfort or challenges the business economy but ratherake it more easier to use and handle in aspect where the use of AI is more needed or encouraged.

The technology cannot still work alone without the human efforts in controlling it, the target was to make works easy and not to take the active roles of humanbeings, job seekers are now developing their career profile with the iforma on this technology because they understand the demand now in market as part of the skills needed on that field, if some are loosing their job then many are getting theirs, life is already full of many inbalances.

Like many new technologies that are super hyped, I'm not sure this will be as successful as it is being made out to be. There are definitely certain scenarios where AI could *assist* people in getting the right answers or automating certain processes, but they will often rely on people as backup. That being said, it could put certain jobs out of business entirely, for example brokerages like insurance - they will be able to cover every scenario to find the cheapest coverage options without any person interaction, or maybe even travel agents (where they still exist) can definitely be replaced. It's hard to gauge the full impact of it at the moment because there are some many possibilities but it will run into problems too.

What do you mean by "the job market"? Certain professions are going to be replaced by AI, while others won't be impacted at all.
All the ghost writers, copywriters, article writers might be having a hard time competing with AI tools like Chatgpt.
The same thing applies to all web designers, photographers and artists. They can't compete with Midjourney and other image generating AI tools.
On the other hand, Chatgpt can't mow your lawn, clean your house or repair your car. Maybe in the future, the robots will become so advanced that they will do physical labor, but this will happen probably after several decades(if the human civilization survives World War III).

Chat GPT bears resemblance to the information provided by a search engine. While this AI can be instructed to create something, it primarily relies on structured data, which can be acquired through internet searches using a search engine.

Training and nourishing this AI with relevant data are crucial for its effective responses. The limitations of data significantly impact the generated responses. Furthermore, Chat GPT cannot provide real-time data updates. If you want information on the current price of Bitcoin, for example, it is better to rely on Google.

Chat GPT still possesses numerous shortcomings that prevent it from surpassing human capabilities in tasks such as writing or programming. This is primarily due to the absence of unique emotions and intuitions found in humans.

There are only certain professions that may be affected by this ChatGPT just like what you mentioned, more on writer-related jobs.
So I've done a quick search on what jobs are more likely to be replaced -
https://www.businessinsider.com/chatgpt-jobs-at-risk-replacement-artificial-intelligence-ai-labor-trends-2023-02
-Tech jobs (Coders, computer programmers, software engineers, data analysts)
-Media jobs (advertising, content creation, technical writing, journalism)
-Legal industry jobs (paralegals, legal assistants)
-Market research analysts
-Teachers
-Finance jobs (Financial analysts, personal financial advisors)
-Traders
-Graphic designers
-Accountants
-Customer service agents

We know that human touch is still different from the works of AI.
It may possibly replaced those jobs, but only to certain extent.
Though if you are in one of those fields, there's no harm in learning new skills that you think you can excel at.
So in case in the future, you are being threatened by the rise of AI, you have alternatives for yourself.

Technology improves people's standard of living and hence should be welcomed. Recently some people may have temporary difficulties because Chat GPT is approaching something that was never imagined. Because of that, there will definitely be difficulties in some workplaces. This matter has already been widely discussed in various media of the world. Many people are going to lose their jobs. But there is another point that is emphasized that this risk is more for those who perform online based tasks because Chap GT is able to do any simple task in a short time. So with the development of technology, people have no choice but to keep up-to-date quickly.

Whether or not the job market is destroyed doesn't really depend on AI either, but because so far AI has become well-known and has also begun to be used by many people in matters of work. I think AI could destroy the job market if there are many companies that use this AI service to replace the human labor they have used in the company. Especially if the costs can be lower, of course certain companies or factories will really consider this because they no longer need to pay their employees at this time.

Technology really won't destroy anything as long as it is used in a very wise place, but considering that technology is starting to replace human labor like today's AI, it is also very possible that this AI can destroy human work fields that humans could previously rely on. But for now, AI will probably have more control over all lines to replace human work, even though the basic concept is to make it easier for humans to complete every job they need.

I do work online, and last week I just got off from the meeting of my boss in which they are really planning AI in the future. It is like automating the process as they see less error and can work fast, which I would say would be affected by it, not now but in the future. If the AI was able to access the internal data that we are getting into, then I think we are done, but again, this is a lot of process as well as needed tweaks.

Not just ChatGPT, but the way AI is moving forward, it is going to create a huge issue in job market especially for process driven tasks which can be automated. But such kind of AI tools is going to disturp the translation market in a big way. Majority of the translation specific companies are going to loose small clients because to such LLMs like ChatGPT or Bard AI.

I think it's best to stay ahead in the competition by learning prompt engineering. This will allow you to use these AI tools in the most effective way.

Chatgpt will not be a threat to us, but AI, and robots will be the things that will probably take our jobs later. I think our world is moving towards a world like sci-fi movies where humanity will be enslaved to Robot and AI. And they will not only take our jobs, but also rule the world. Just like money is a human invention, but today we are serving money, it is not serving us.

It is true, the incorporation of AI technology into workplaces may result in the automation or transformation of specific employment positions. History has demonstrated, however, that technical breakthroughs frequently result in the development of new employment and possibilities. Furthermore, AI technology may be used to increase human productivity and assist workers in their regular responsibilities. It may help professionals by speeding up access to information, assisting in decision-making processes, and increasing overall efficiency.

Yes, it is reasonable and very easy to understand about this, and I also agree with @Lamkuthang's statement saying "Our real duty is here and should respect what the OpenAI Team has tried to create this technology for humanity and use it with wise" and let's appreciate the unique abilities and talents presented by humans who have been given reason and knowledge by God Almighty to be used properly.

What you should say is Artificial intelligence and not ChatGPT. This is because the latter is limited to information that ends in 2021 and since then, it hasn't been updated.

AI will not destroy the job market but will improve it. Employees would make use of it to enable them get better at that job and improve overall performance and efficiency well employers would use it for appraisal which would boost their confidence in the results because they know that it has not been tampered by humans.

Saying that artificial intelligence would destroy the job market is like saying that having a boat would stop a ship from transporting humans from one point to another. We should embrace it learn from it and adapt to it so that we would be one step ahead of our competitors in the market.

Artificial intelligence will affect the job market and bring changes, but it will not destroy the Job market. It will make some professions and skills more relevant for the future and some other professions and skills outdated.

People complaining that chatgpt or AI taking the jobs of human fail to understand that the only people that their jobs will be lost are those who fail to update their skills with the newest technology like AI. Just as those would could used keyboard replaced those assistants that can only work with typewriter that's what will happen in the future with AI, we need to learn how to work effectively with this technology.

Technology make things easier so we shoudn't be scared of them. Humans will always have job available to them but only those that learn beyond the university will be hired. Getting hire now is mostly about skills you acquire and not entirely depends on your education.

it won't destroy the job market, rather it will make it easier for those who need help with certain things. I know about several cases when students wrote diploma , it's interesting. I also used it several times and he helped me edit the text as I needed and it really saves a lot of time, but I didn’t say that his work is perfect, he also requires manual editing.

Are you people for real? If it makes a job easier and increases productivity, then obviously fewer people are needed to produce the same output - meaning they could be made redundant.
On top of that, if AI is sufficiently good at something, then no humans could actually be needed at all. i.e. if I can use AI to produce the exact graphic or content that I need, with just few prompts, I will no longer be using any graphic designers or copywriters. Even if they were to reduce their payment expectations massively, they'd still won' be able to compete as AI is essentially free and can produce much faster.

So the real question is, if a new type of jobs will emerge, that can be done by humans but not AI. That was historically true with any automation, but I think most experts agree that it's just a matter of time before most of human work will become obsolete. That's pretty obvious to understand if we look at people as biological robots, that are not optimised for any kind of work, i.e. we use much more energy that is needed for the tasks that we're doing.

And it's funny (and a bit disturbing) that AI seems to be replacing "creative" jobs, so jobs that some believed will be automated as last, or that will never be automated at all.

If this technology is used in the workplace, many people will lose their jobs.

I'm not sure if Chatgpt can really help eliminate or reduce employment in each country. Because every year that passes around the world the number of unemployed is increasing because every year we all know that many people graduate from college.

And even among those who did not graduate, there are also more job seekers. Although there is no doubt that currently chatgpt is useful for other things regarding things we don't know that we can ask here and it will give us options to answer our questions.

For sure internet services related job will be affected on it since instead clients will get some people to work with them they will just get the service of AI which they can save money and work force.

But there are some areas still need.human interaction so I believe that not all jobs will be affected on this AI thing. To avoid losing a lot of job maybe its good for government to step up and set some law to ban using this kind of technology so that job market will not get affected by AI.

We should really realize that if there's a benefit then there's also its con's which we know that once things to be already that automated or something that been influenced or applied with AI then for sure

manpower wouldnt really be needed much more. On the time that it progresses where jobs could be potentially be replaced with AI would definitely be imposing such problem or trouble into those people
who are really having those jobs. Yes, AI could really be applied into those jobs or tasks which could really be simply automated which means that these positions would be eradicated and would really be replaced by something more organized and faster and more convenient approach via applying AI on which certain companies would definitely be having that consideration rather than on
hiring some employees.

This is actually one of the cons or risks when AI do progress even more where certain jobs would really be replaced out and lots of people would really be mainly affected.

At the current status of chatgpt, it won't give any threat to the job market.  One of the reasons is that the chatgpt still needs a lot of improvement.  They still show lots of error and inconsistency.  I believe they are still in the experimental stage and is yet from perfection.  And even if the chatgpt is perfected, it still needs human assistance to function well and do its intended task.  I think we still need decades before AI will become a threat for job hunters.

there are two possibilities.
1. Chatgpt is absolutely destroying the freelance market especially designers and programmers.
Im quite agree to the freelance market but not for the programming. ChatGPT can be requested to create art as per your request but it's very help for programming to get the code instantly from the programmers. I were actively using ChatGPT for the programming and it's really help full. Building the code becomes even more easier use chatGPT and this is not even a threat for the programmers since charGPT being made by the programmers.

2. Chatgpt helps freelancers get their work done quickly.
Anything related to the essay or something else. it can be done in seconds or minutes through it. that's make people become so lazy.

some business owners won't want to get tired of doing their program or design work because there are other things, now this should be handed over to freelancers who need it, but that's not all. I'm sure with chatgpt everything will be much easier, not to destroy the freelance market, but to help them work.

Only some elements in the freelance market that will be disrupted by this but i think that it will not be so significant.

Dont be a luddite, in short the answer is No and also short term your ideas of jobs being replaced could appear true; its deceptive.  Overall the effect of any positive efficient technology is to create wealth for society, people are far superior to robots, to computers, software, hardware or this idea of AI the people will prove the more valuable and be paid far better then the AI will for sure.
This is a tool, I hope a good one and its not one we should destroy because we want to plow the fields manually.  Every approach can have its advantages its clear technology should be about speeding up a process and enabling anyone not just tech heads to perform a task easily.   This was true when windows 1.0 came out, easily observable much as I saw windows as inferior to DOS back then in time its proved invaluable though imperfect to most.

Quote
Chat GPT bears resemblance to the information provided by a search engine.
Its quite progressive imo, just a stepping stone and a wobbly one at that hardly perfect or especially autonomously independent that I've seen.   AI has been waiting a long time to do much more impressive then win Chess games, this is all over due really; society's use of tech is behind the curve imo  I fear that more.   Supposedly Tesla is the number one leader in AI and its most profitable usage, I dont know we close to proving that utility is here.

Quote
I think we still need decades before AI will become a threat for job hunters.

AI was mentioned recently for use on automated helpdesk responses, jobs were being reduced in favor of technology deployment to customer enqueries.  I think we'd all prefer the human but that grey area of basic information handling is already here to some extent

ChatGPT can be used to improve the quality of your job while you have it, then maybe you can shift your career into something related to AI maintenance and management and you will be fine. There's no doubt that AI breakthroughs will surely render a lot of jobs operated by humans 'useless', but at least while you're at it you can make your life easier while also trying to learn other industries to which you can transfer when all of this development about AI is said and done.

At the current state of ChatGPT, it's not a threat, but rather more of a tool that can help current jobs.

Maybe it is. Thats why Elon wants it regulated and If China develops it further, its going to be one hell of a manless manufacturer.

So far there are graphics made by AIs, they are much sophisticated and was done quickly than a graphic artist, thats one job down and accounting is easy for computers already adding AI will completely make accountants useless all they need is just the signature.

With AI having more information, the more it can do complex jobs. A programming student spends countless hours to code a project but asking AI to do it for him will only take few munites. AI integrated to Social media will make it easier for influencers. A team of Marketers may have to compete a tireless machine with complete weapons.

I think somehow it is true that there are some jobs may become automated, it is unlikely that chatbots will completely destroy the job market. There are many jobs require human interaction, problem solving skills and also creativity that are difficult for chatbots to replace it. I think chatbots are designed to assist humans and not to replace them. Chatbots may change the job market but i think they will not completely destroy it instead they could help the people to make their work much easier.

No one will be able to completely destroy the job market, but if AI gets out of hand, it will have the impact of causing many people to lose their jobs. If chatbots or AI become too intelligent and many people intentionally create them to replace humans completely, that will be very bad for many people.

In general, technology is developed to bring benefits and convenience to people, but if there is a part that abuses them excessively for profit, it is likely to cause harm to many others. Especially those with low knowledge will face many difficulties when competing with these intelligent machines.

I remember before that we used to search on Google and spend countless hours finding bugs or solving a programming problem, which also took us days to solve. Now it will be solved in seconds. I think the fun and learning will be gone this time because if you just ask the AI to solve your assignment, let's say it solved it and you have high grades, but still, if you explain it in front of your classmates, for sure you can't explain it. Also, the fun will be gone because solving programming problems like simple things like making a pyramid on the console and having both of your classmates race against each other to see who can solve it first will be gone, as most of you are sure to search for them online.

I think some jobs it will take away but it will be years before all the bugs and quirks are worked out. Right now you can’t completely rely on it without it being checked by a human.

Someone can find some bug and take advance and the company can lose money. There is risk for the company doing this. However eventually it will destroy jobs just like the Wendy’s drive thru attendants.

My personal opinion is that CHATGPT is a double-edged sword. First, artificial intelligence applications will directly replace corresponding labor positions. Second, the application of artificial intelligence can directly fill positions that workers cannot fill. Third, the application of artificial intelligence can create new jobs.

Artificial intelligence pose a huge risk to the labour market which ChatGPT is not an exception, in the coming future a lot of people are likely going to lose their jobs because of the presence of AI when most companies must have understood the benefits of using these tools, precisely the reduction in the cost of labour which means companies will spend lesser Money using this tools when compared to using human work force, however in as much as it pose some kind of risk to the labour market it has also come with some advantage too.

OP, I really do not think chatgpt would destroy the labour market. What I just think is that it would make workers lousy and dull in fast thinking as it used to be. Chatgpt rather makes work more easier and faster in response and generating of solutions to urgent quests at hand which seems rather difficult but my fear is that humans now will solely depend on it for response and put which is not welcoming although it can generate solutions but it can not do muscular activities like humans. So I see no way it can destroy the labour market other than rendering solutions to pressuring situations.

There are pros and cons in the use case of AI technology in work systems - some consider it can damage the system, while some will think it will enhance it. I'm not too worried if this artificial intelligence is used as intended, but if it is abused - then there will obviously be great harm as consequence. There are always negative and positive effects about new technology - so it must be used wisely to minimize the problems it causes.

Maybe in the future, but currently I don't see AI as a huge threat to the employee status in the economy since companies would still rather hire a professional people to do some specific task. AI might be convenient to people but you couldn't still do those tasks by all yourself by just asking AI for help. For example, in a company there's someone that are checking the times in different country per day which AI could actually do. Do you prefer to do the task by the help of AI or Make your employee do the task with accuracy and time efficient work that worth the salary. You might save some money with the labour cost but it wouldn't help a company to grow.

After all, AI is also created by humans, we are still one level above it.
the jobs that will be available may only be in the field of AI improvement so I think that unemployment will increase greatly and of course there is a way to adapt this will take a long time. adherents of the government will not remain silent regarding humanitarian needs and it seems that even that opportunity is not big

I think chatgpt will actually make freelance work easier for many people because as the boss of a business person you shouldn't have to do anything even if it's easy to do because there are still a lot of things that a boss has to do instead of having to solve it yourself with AI. unless someone thinks he can do it himself, but I'm sure the effort isn't that big, because he'll be short on connections.

It all depends on how the technology will be used. There is a great convenience for those who want their employees to work faster and solve problems, or there is another option for those who want to have a single person do this quick job and solve the problems. So the answer to the question here depends entirely on the business and the people. If the solutions provide high returns, there is no need to fire people. But if the solutions say both high returns and a reduction in workforce are needed, layoffs ensue. These artificial intelligences have not yet fully penetrated the market. We can find the answer to these questions in 2-3 years.

But these are just stories, and there has not been any specific research on the negative side of chatgpt. Remember that AI is a man-made tool, and we are constantly trying to develop and implement it. So as AI develops, there will be new professions and industries. when talking about ChatGPT, maybe it will not really affect the job market, but when talking about AI technology in general, this technology had begun to shift many jobs globally, such as sorting, administration, repetitive work, and many other jobs.

this technology will definitely disrupt the global job market and it is best if the government regulates the use of AI in a company as soon as possible, because it seems that there will be many companies globally that will use AI technology in their companies for reasons of efficiency, and it will cause many people to become unemployed.

For a company where the demands are quite specific and indeed the role of ChatGPT can support the job, it might really make it easier, but the negative side is that employees become lazy and always take advantage of this feature to make themselves as comfortable as possible. Apart from all that, there are many pros and cons, anyone will feel competitive and the matter of making work easier can have an impact on the object that is running it. Usually, a company in this field will demand more tasks because with the help of ChatGPT, the ideas, and ideas of every company will be the same. Therefore the role of humans is still important, especially in implementing innovation so that the tasks generated by OpenAI are not automatically implemented immediately.

Yes and No.

The thing is, the release of ChatGPT, especially a better version of it will definitely leave us white-collar workers jobless and in lack of a better venture, cause if one company's doing it, you bet your sweet bippy a lot of them will, this will cascade from chatGPT to full-blown use of AI for everything, including blue-collar work, though this will definitely take a long-ass time.

Sounds bad, is definitely bad, and we'll have to make do of the situation.

But the good thing about this is, if AI worked well in our favor and it did replace every job that it could cover, the government, and every authority around the world would be forced to implement a universal basic income, cause without jobs we won't get paid, and with all these jobs taken over by AI we'll all starve if the government doesn't intervene.

What does this mean for us?

Well a lot actually. It'll mean everything, from people actually doing shit they really love for once, to crimes, poverty, hunger, and other nasty things we've been tussling over for centuries finally becoming a thing of the past.

When I was in school, there was an argument in the class that, technology will stop or destroy physical classroom learning but most of us disagreed on the matter because the matter what, teachers and lecturers are needed in the classroom teaching. Instructors are needed to instruct the students through the technology.
Also remember this not the first time technology is introduced in the world. The world started from the Agrarian era which was changed to industrial era and people were thinking that the industrial revolution would stopped human labour but human labour was highly needed has well. Now that is the same question you op is still asking which has been asked for thousand years ago. And the answer is still remain the same. ChatGPT (AI) can never destroy human jobs in the work. Who did those write ups in the net human, and it is human being will still carry them to the classroom to explain to the students.
The only aspect I support this ChatGPT is that it will make research easier for Master and PhD students.

Sam Altman either specifically mean Chat GPT with that "technology" and not AI in general, or he is so out of touch what sort of jobs people are going. Because AI will revolutionize everything in a way we don't even grasp yet. In good and bad, but i am afraid that if it won't be regulated, the impact will affect so fast that we don't know what hit us and we have to fix our society suitable for GPT and AI afterwards.

Because, sure, this tech "will solve things we never even knew about", but it most likely creates ton of new problems we haven't foreseen yet. Do we trust black box AI to solve those issues as well? If people think that internet polarizing people and everyone living bubbles was hard to see beforehand. It will be peanuts to what blind trust to AI with closed source does.

If you want to give yourself something to think about, read "The Loop: How Technology Is Creating a World Without Choices and How to Fight Back" by Jacob Ward
It was written before chatgpt was a thing and it mostly talks about algorithms and how they make choices for us. Title is little bit preachy and biased but in overall that was most interesting book i read last year.

Usually, a company in this field will demand more tasks because with the help of ChatGPT, the ideas, and ideas of every company will be the same. Therefore the role of humans is still important, especially in implementing innovation so that the tasks generated by OpenAI are not automatically implemented immediately.

If there employer will find there employee got lazy because of some feature added then maybe this will be the start that they think about putting bots on their support side since there main man isn't working well. If people could show more productivity than those bots for sure the company will not think about replacing human brains since they can still find that human are better worker than those bots. Although there are some department will get affected by this chatgpt or AI thing I think it cannot give big effect on job market since human interaction still important thing in business industry.

OP, the world is currently in the computer stage and so, technology is not left behind as it is amongst the beauty of computer development. Chatgpt is an AI as designed for multi tasking purpose but however, it is likely that there would be a time when computer AI and robots would take charge of very tasking and muscular work and then humans would be put on redundancy in their various works which would not go  down well with in the labour force. So therefore the possibility and tendency of AI taking over the work force is very broad as a matter of fact humans should have to brace up for the times ahead.

I saw an analogy that is a perfect fit for this question a few days ago.

Some might saw this already, but in a Facebook post, there's 2 pictures where the picture on the left is a photographer that's in a helicopter, and the picture on the right is a drone. In that, there's a caption that says "In just 10 years, the photographer losses his job."

I can't find the post, and I don't know the exact caption either, but the point is if you will not adopt to your environment, chances of you losing your job really is high. ChatGPT might destroy, and totally replace some of the jobs out there, but on the other hand, those who are expert in using ChatGPT will see this is a new opportunity for them to find a job. Many people might lose their job, but if they will adopt, and learn how to use ChatGPT on their advantage, and maximize it, they will not lose their job for sure.

Technology really is evolving, and on a rapid pace, and people must adopt into it, and maximize it thus, they might really lose their jobs.

Not only speaking about having those kind of scenarios but also the employer or owner would really be having that consideration on having that switch up on the time that they would really be seeing its relevance and being that accurate or swiftness when it comes to their service. If this one turns out to be that good replacement than on a staff support then its likely that it would really be replaced up. Dont know if this one or there are ones who had already done it already or still on the works but for sure it wont really be that much long before we could really be able to see that it would really be having that application.
It would really be able to destroy that job market but not totally or completely knowing that there are still jobs or things which human beings are still that relevant on the field.
This is why for those people who are working on IT related jobs that could possibly be changed by automation then better start up to find some alternative because losing their jobs is really on the line.

When machines and robots continue to be developed they will automatically be designed to replace human labour, the simple thing that happens in my country is the use of electronic money which replaces a lot to buy oil, pay tolls and so on, automatically those who work as gas station operators and toll road operators lose work .

This chat GPT is not a problem for those who can easily adapt to these changes and develop themselves with the time. If you think about the reality, it can be seen that this AI can work so smoothly that it will be able to replace the workplace of ordinary people. In fact, many people in the world will lose their jobs in the next few years as a result of such discoveries. But nothing will be done. Because its benefits are available everywhere and can do it better than a worker. So every worker should prepare themselves now so that they don't have to face such a situation in the future.

It is a complex issue, how ChatGPT will impact the job market, however throughout history, we have seen that new technological developments/advancements have caused disruption the job market, but at the same time it has also led to creation job opportunities and industries. In light of this, it is important to approach new technologies with open mind, embrace them as tools of progress. In stead of fearing such technologies, I would rather invest time to learn and adapt them to utilize them for overall improvement in life.

It could encourage those people to just adapt to the changes and make their own automations. In ChatGPT, you could just engineer a prompt in order to provide your desired output. It's not just like a all-in-one vending machine that would shoot out all the things that you needed in a chat prompt.

I, as a  software developer, uses ChatGPT sometimes out of curiosity in building my side projects and sometimes my needs aren't met and the code is hardly and barely maintainable if you would look at it in corporate level. It's not something that business owners would use even in startup. S/he would still somehow need a manpower to maintain the system.

It could solve algorithm or the usual interview questions, but we all know that the work itself does not revolve around the interview questions. :D

Educated, highly educated people will surely love new technology because it helps them a lot. But people with low education and manual labor will panic, and AI or robots will really take their jobs. Everything has its pros and cons, nothing is perfect. I am also worried about the growth of chatGPT and AI, but I agree with you, it will probably make many jobs obsolete, but besides that, it will also open up more new job opportunities. For us, it is necessary to adapt to everything to survive, do not be afraid but find a way to overcome.

If we go back in time a little, we will notice that the labor market adapts to new technologies.

First: During the era of feudalism, there was an urgent need for humans and animals for agriculture and cultivation, and manual effort was essential to moving the economy. when the combustion machinery and electricity generators appeared, many people thought that they would lose their jobs due to the advent of machines.

Second: Those machines needed humans to operate them, and thus jobs appeared such as electrical, electronics, and mechatronics engineers, and then reliance on these jobs decreased, so remote work, work from home, and robots appeared that entered most industries, but nevertheless, humans found an opportunity in jobs besides those now.

Third: Artificial intelligence revolution is exploding, and people fear for their jobs again, but it is an opportunity to create new jobs.

The bottom line of the story is that the person who refuses to develop himself and develop his skills to find a new opportunity whenever the labor market conditions change, is the person who will suffer in order to achieve a stable income like who still uses traditional farming methods or does not want to use new phones.

Technological developments really cannot be avoided,
and as it continues to grow then the bad news is it can replace some jobs,
as humans I think we need to continue to learn and innovate so as not to lose competitiveness with technological developments.

If chatgpt is really used for multiple businesses, I think it could impact the job market but if each candidate can have certain skills that robots can't, they can still work in the company. Maybe the competition in the world of work will be even tighter and more difficult because companies will look for resources to help companies develop their business better. And I agree with Sam Altman that technology will not destroy the job market but help workers work more optimally and companies achieve many of their targets. So we'll see how it develops and if chatgpt is going to become a new tool, maybe we'll see a big change in work.

ChatGPT, like other artificial intelligence systems, was developed to help and enhance the efficiency of mainly repetitive tasks and maximize the efficiency of the work process. ChatGPT is not a perfect assistant and cannot completely replace the human role in complex tasks. However, there may be some jobs displaced by artificial intelligence in the future, which is happening in many fields. This will create new opportunities for jobs that require different skills, and will require individuals to learn and develop new skills to protect themselves in the competitive labor market. In short, chatGPT cannot automatically destroy the job market, but it requires the cooperation between people and artificial intelligence to create value for society.

Bro, that comparison was as on point as a dart tossed by someone who's had a few too many! No shade, but it caught me right in the heartstrings. It feels like watching a futuristic flick where bots take over, only now they're after our gigs. Curse you, Skynet! Or should I say, ChatGPT!

But hold up, before we start stockpiling canned goods and fashioning aluminum foil headgear, let's recall something: We've been down this road before. Remember the cries about ATMs making bank tellers extinct? Yeah, didn't happen. So let's not rush to drastic conclusions.

Adjusting is the secret sauce, bros and broettes. Just like we mastered the art of smartphones, social media, and TikTok moves (yikes), we can also figure out how to co-exist with ChatGPT. Who knows, this AI may turn out to be as harmless as a kitty... an incredibly bright kitty, though.

ChatGPT itself won't, but AI technology will, at some point and in some fields, replace humans. Firstly, have you seen the new Photoshop beta version? It's capable of generating AI content with a few clicks, so even a newbie can perform tedious processes that he otherwise couldn't because he lacked the necessary knowledge. Certainly, it's a great tool that I'd also make great use of, but it can make a significant number of people redundant. However, I don't believe that AI can compete with the human brain, especially in such tasks. It won't make all editors or photographers redundant, but it may reduce the number of amateur freelance workers.

Anyway, it's still too early to judge; AI seems both a blessing and a cure, and while technology is evolving so quickly that it's frightening, I'm hoping that it will at least be put to good use.

I think that chatGPT is a start, in the future there will be more AI that is more sophisticated and can do everything. This is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it can be very useful for humans, but on the other hand, it will shift humans themselves.

I really believe that in the future workers will be replaced by AI. Currently there are many sectors that are done by robots. Especially if AI becomes more sophisticated, more workers will be unemployed. Some jobs that might be replaced by AI, such as: front desk employees, editors and proofreaders, accounting, drivers, couriers, etc.

In the future there will be more and more challenges. Only people who have high creativity will survive. Technological knowledge will be very useful in the future. Maybe the conventional lifestyle will no longer apply, in the future there will be no more offices, everything will be done remotely at home or in a cafe. Maybe, this is just my opinion.

I don't think that all aspects of the business will be shifted by the role of AI, humans can still excel in several things, especially responsibility in failure. Sometimes AI can't solve completely new problems that have nothing to do with their past learning, so to solve them they even need to fail without considering the consequences of failure. However, there are concerns on several fronts.

I think that artificial intelligence will help create new jobs for people.

Each person is at the same time a creator - an experimenter and a keeper of normative rules (instructions, mathematical formulas, standards and other baggage of knowledge accumulated by previous generations of mankind).

In the future, we will see a symbiosis of people and artificial intelligence (perhaps in the form of various robots).  At the same time, robots will take over all the boring work, and people will be creative, experiment and break the rules.

Artificial intelligence will be an excellent assistant for people and will stimulate them to creative and productive work.  There will be 10 billion people and about 1 trillion robots and other forms of artificial intelligence on planet Earth at the same time.

Does anyone here lost their job already due to chat gpt? I guess not and people just create panic. I dont think it will destroy “job market” (what ever it means lol ;D) but it will rebalance demanded and less demanded jobs. I think we already had things like that, when we had to many of so called “finansists” and shortage of those who knew how to work “with hands”. Now we have too many guys in IT sector. I guess we dont need so many keyboard clickers anymore  ;D

Absolutely agree with you. I have not yet heard about the fact that someone cut the work or replaced it. For that, I have heard many times about the fact that the gpt chat simplifies the work with the same writing of various texts and no one complains about it. At the moment it's just a handy tool that simplifies the work, I don't see it as a threat.

To be honest, Chatgpt has actually designed several jobs for users for completion, whether for work or educational objectives.
As some may believe, I don't believe it could completely replace workforce development. Modern technological innovation is progressive, and we must accept it. We should view it as an advantage rather than a threat. The existence of AIs is beyond our control, but we can embrace and prepare for whatever challenges they might bring in the future. However, we must acknowledge the fact that AIs will never be as intelligent as humans.

AI can automate certain tasks and streamline processes, which may lead to changes in the workforce. However, history shows that technological advancements have often created new opportunities and job roles that were previously unimaginable. The implementation of AI technology in the workplace could lead to a shift in job requirements and the need for reskilling or upskilling. Instead of completely replacing humans, AI systems, such as ChatGPT, could serve as valuable tools to enhance productivity and decision-making.

It's still very early to come to such a conclusion; don't forget that most AI services are still in a beta experimental phase, and they're far from perfect. As I mentioned earlier, ChatGPT is powerful, but not powerful enough (yet) to take over humans. Other AI applications, however, are much more capable and advanced, which is the frightening part. AI is far from being fully developed, and it has already proven to have immense capabilities in our hands with just a few clicks—something that we could have never imagined a year or two ago. It's only been a few months since ChatGPT was founded, and their development since then has been massive. Just imagine what else we'll see just by the end of this year.

Personally, I believe that their development can easily take a turn for the worse; imagine what else they'll be able to do in a matter of a few years. Is there any guarantee that their power will solely be used to assist humanity?

I agree with you. ChatGPT is only the beginning of a nightmare, how many industrial workers have now been replaced with robotic systems? That's just a robot system, AI will be more sophisticated than that. If robotics can only replace repetitive human tasks, then AI will be able to do the same things as humans.

AI doesn't complain when it's working, it doesn't get tired, it doesn't get hungry, it doesn't ask to be paid, It's a sweet dream for every industry. Production costs will become very cheap with AI technology. Who will use humans in industrial systems if AI has that advantage?
Maybe not all workers will be replaced by AI technology, but many workers will lose their jobs. If that happens, then the nightmare becomes reality. Remember, technology develops at a very fast pace. Maybe that nightmare will happen soon, another 5 or 10 years seems to be enough for AI to become very sophisticated.

I don't want that to happen, but it looks like AI technology is heading in that direction

There's no way on stopping it and we are really that heading on there on which it would really be just that understandable that there would be lots of workers would be affected. Whether we do like it or not on which
technological advancement is something that cant really be stop nor really that could happen. We've seen the initial steps and its impossible  that it wouldnt really be enhanced furthermore on upcoming years to come.
This is why if you are a worker which you do seem that it could be potentially be replaced by an AI then its better on starting now to find up other sources of income on which you could be able to depend with.
We wouldnt know on what the future holds for us whether we would be laid out or would really be remaining into our spots for long time but we know that industries and to those owners would really be going into those
options on which they could possible be able to make those huge savings on making use of AI where we know that on each business which is really that trying out to achieve and it wont be shocking thing if
suddenly they would really be making out those kind of announcement or laying off employees.

That's flawed logic. The fact that something didn't happen in the past is in no way a guarantee that it will not happen in the future. Unprecedented things, bigger or smaller, are occurring all the time, that's nothing unusual.

Sure, it's possible that AI could actually create more jobs for humans, but automation is inevitable. It's easy to grasp if you dehumanise people and think of us as biological robots, that have limited abilities, consume quite high amounts of energy and are not really optimised for any task, making us easy to replace.

I don't recall any serious commentator/analytic/expert still believing that we are somehow, magically impossible to be replaced.

Each has its pros and cons, so AI technology is no exception. So AI can have both positive and negative effects, depending on its application and usage. When used for the right purposes, AI has the potential to enhance efficiency and help workers focus on the more complex and creative aspects of their work, leading to increased productivity and innovation. But when in the wrong hands or applied without the right ethical considerations, AI can actually be harmful. So approach AI appropriately so that you can exploit its potential benefits while minimizing the risks and negative impacts it can bring.

Personally, I believe that their development can easily take a turn for the worse; imagine what else they'll be able to do in a matter of a few years. Is there any guarantee that their power will solely be used to assist humanity?
Of course, the development of artificial intelligence already brings many benefits and conveniences to people. But do not forget that it also poses a huge danger of destroying humanity. Many scientists and technology industry leaders, including top Google and Microsoft experts, have already issued a warning about the dangers posed by AI. Some even compare artificial intelligence to a nuclear bomb.
Concerns that AI systems could outsmart humans and get out of control have intensified with the advent of a new generation of high-performance AI chatbots like ChatGPT. This has caused countries around the world to struggle to develop regulations for emerging technologies, with the European Union backing the initiative. The Artificial Intelligence Law is expected to be approved later this year.
The events set forth in the famous movie "Terminator" have an absolutely real basis to happen.

Chatgpt can destroy a market that competes with it, but not a job market. When chatgpt dropped, people thought it'll take the job from writers, and it turned out to be an assistant to facilitate writing. Chatgpt can help many people execute their tasks easily in form of a conversation, unlike google that provides answers for a person to read. Chatgpt creates a recurring information that can make the reader to remember their questions. However, AI generally can take up the job market because everyone wants a fast and easy action, that's why companies go for AI they won't have to control human beings but robots. As time creeps by the AI industry would keep advancing and some niches can get affected.

However, we must acknowledge the fact that AIs will never be as intelligent as humans.

there are possibilities because remember before factory worker replaced by machines as it is more efficient and fast and dont rest, but again not all have this , it will be the same with the current situation others may lost a job but others dont , what best right now are those who has skills in technology will have more jobs and got more in demand , but again it is an innovation for us to improve so i do also see this as an advantage to us even right now i am using it while at work

Currently, chatGPT or AI is still in the development stage, they have not been able to replace us, but with their constant growth rate. Are they a threat? That is well worth considering. I think that, besides the positive effects, there will also be negative impacts in some areas. The field of AI is vast, not just what chatgpt is doing. If they can make progress like sci-fi movies, that's the real threat to us, don't take AI lightly.

The presence of technological developments will certainly have a big impact on workers, the big thing that we are currently experiencing is the presence of smartphones which make big changes to the camera industry, printing and so on, it can be said that camera production died because of the presence of smartphones.

What you describe is called progress.
In the same way, when steam engines appeared, many professions simply disappeared, and the demand for them disappeared.
We will not beg for progress - either you follow its course, or look for an alternative world! Either you adapt and adapt, or...

Of course, it doesn’t sound very positive, but no one for the sake of someone else’s “happiness” will live in the Stone Age, just so that there is a demand for you as a craftsman to carve flint axes and knives.

By the way, about chatgpt - I strongly recommend using it as an excellent teacher who will really answer all your questions, on any topic of interest. And then chatgpt will not be an enemy but a friend!

The use of this chat GPT expands horizons, but it will not destroy the job market but will make the work of current workers easier. Can answer a bunch of questions instantly. This chat GPT is the creation of OpenAI, an artificial intelligence research company. From creating a quick CV to writing poems, and stories, this technology is fast. Chat GPT provides easier and more informative answers to the types of questions that we usually go to Google Search to find answers to. Artificial intelligence will reach places where humans have no work or serve purposes where humans have never worked before.

Those industrial workers who were replaced with robotic system most likely have found another job. I wasnt that after they got fired, they went home, lied in a bed and waited for death. Which jobs do you think ChatGPT would replace? Designers, part of IT department, part of freelancers and lets say a bunch of other professions. But I think that this is OK. People dont work in one company, on one position, or dont do just one job for entire life. Also there will be always in need of those who will maintain ChatGPT servers (if that is how it work - what I meant is "specialists who maintain ChatGPT work"), those who make use of ChatGPT in their business and etc. ChatGPT - this is a progression. During progress new job places will appear. It wont be that it will replace each and every single job in the world.

Maybe for a while it will automate the chat system of the site but for sure even though there will be lessen work force for that still those companies will need people because they need them to interact real time to their costumers.

I understand many got afraid of development of this technology but I don't really think it can affect to the whole job market for long term because real peoples presence is for sure what those costumers need and they will request real people to talk than those bots.

Realizing more correctly whether humans destroy things themselves, I realize that the core problem here is not because of the supporting tools but the behavior of our use. So when it comes to using chatgpt, as well as many other support tools, the ethics of use is always mentioned a lot. Simpler than looking at a fruit peeler, yes, it is exactly used to peel fruit and can also be a tool that harms our lives. And through this I want to reiterate that instead of blaming any party, blame yourself for not being knowledgeable and good enough to use everything to bring positive things to yourself as well as to everyone around.

It is true that ChatGPT has gained a lot of popularity since its launch in November last year. While some people may worry that this technology will destroy the job market, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman believes that the technology will never destroy the job market. Rather, this technology will solve things that people never knew about.
Since we have different AI projects just like Chatgpt that has bring a huge recognition to the AI world. We can not actually say that chatgpt or any other artificial intelligence project would dominate the entire world making job hard for job seeker. This is a trend and I am pretty sure that very soon, another trend would dominate the AI trend that will make people talk and agitate about the new trend just like we have been seeing for some time now.

The use of this chat GPT expands horizons, but it will not destroy the job market but will make the work of current workers easier.
This is what many perso6had been longing to see whether there job would be safe from AI taking there jobs away. We don't actually know the gravity this would cause in time coming.

Blabla, all black-and-white thinking again.
Destroy = negative. How about freeing time and work potential for more creative tasks instead?
Actually I think transform is the correct phrase. Some jobs will become obsolete while new ones will emerge.

And ofc OpenAI-Sam has a biased "only positive" narrative on the subject.
It's a complex topic and not all implications of AI development are predictable yet. Some people will lose their jobs, other people will find opportunities with AI that didn't exist before.

Your statement "Any math can be easily solved through this technology, any unknown matter can be easily known through this technology" is just incorrect. The right use of AI in almost any data-driven field will allow for much quicker problem-solving but for now it's not a solution that can just solve any task at all. It's prone to error and acts in unpredictable ways, rendering it useless in many instances for the time being.

I agree that chatGPT and it's counterparts will destroy the job market. This is going to affect the older generations because they are the ones who learned how to do their job without the aid of a computer. Have you heard of Katherine Johnson (https://awis.org/historical-women/katherine-johnson/#:~:text=Katherine%20Johnson%20was%20a%20NASA,for%20the%20Apollo%20moon%20landing), the African-American physicist/mathematician, who helped calculate the flight path for NASA's first manned space mission in 1962, and made important calculations for the Apollo moon landing. She did this without any computer or artificial intelligence. Let's say now that she still works for NASA and refuses to learn how to use machines to do the calculations for her by just typing in some prompts, she would certainly loose her job to someone else who already can and that person would be a younger person. So that is why I agree with the OP that Chat GPT and its counterparts would destroy the job market only for a certain demographic.

There were just rumors or words circulating about certain companies laying off employees due to ChatGPT. Either way someone still has to maintain the quality of whatever the company is offering anyway to their clients/customers.

ChatGPT is powerful, but someone has to still do something about the output it gives. Remember when people were saying that Adobe Dreamweaver and/or WYSIWYG editor would destroy the job market for web developers? It's not technically an AI but it eases web development. Still there were companies that are looking for web devs of all levels including entry-level.

I agree that chatGPT and it's counterparts will destroy the job market. This is going to affect the older generations because they are the ones who learned how to do their job without the aid of a computer.
Companies would then train their people to use the newer ways of doing whatever job they're doing. Surely newspaper editors back in the days using typewrites would now be trained to use computer and type in articles and learn newer formats in creating an article.

I don't think chatgbt can destroy the job market itself. Because after all, it's just like Google search where you can ask what you want and it will give you options to answer your question.

But it can be the reason for other people's unemployment. That is seen, but not in the job market itself. But it cannot be denied that today's chatgpt helps us people in many ways. However, if this is adopted by some companies worldwide, the popularity of the chatgpt will surely spread quickly.

Automated chat bots have been around for many years; that's the least of our issues. Actual employees are still assisting people over the chat; the bots or AI simply categorize your issue to connect you to the appropriate assistant or try to understand what your issue is. If it's a common one, it'll provide you with the necessary information; usually, though, it connects you with the appropriate department. In this case, it's very supportive and helpful and cannot fully replace humans.

Although, personally, I believe that the issue is a lot broader. Even promising IT may suffer. I already mentioned Photoshop, so I'm not going to do it again; however, even Excel will soon have similar automations. As someone who is adept in Excel and the Microsoft Office suite, this is a potential drawback for me since an average Excel user will be able to live up to the expectations of someone more advanced, thanks to AI; thus, I will no longer have an advantage as an expert Excel user, my further knowledge won't be of any help.

This is how technological innovation has worked in the past, but people don't realize that technological innovation in the past hasn't actually mimicked human intelligence. Previous technology, computers specifically, have the ability to repeat commands at a high rate. But that's their limitation, reading a script and execution a function. AI mimic humans and their judgement, and AI will work cheaper than humans.

Take the jobs generated from AI and you still don't have a net gain in jobs from the number of jobs displaced. The solution isn't just to tell people that they should adapt skills and force them to compete with AI. Doesn't work that way, it's a losing battle.

ChatGPT isn't very impressive to me, to be frank. But what will the next iteration of ChatGPT look like, say, 20 years from now.

Chatgpt can destroy a market that competes with it, but not a job market. When chatgpt dropped, people thought it'll take the job from writers, and it turned out to be an assistant to facilitate writing.

This makes no sense. If it's a useful assistant to say copywriter, meaning he can produce content much faster, then he can process more work, which would otherwise go to other copywriters - meaning some of them won't get work and would have to look for another source of income. It's not like there's an unlimited demand for writing.

And there are plenty of testimonies on the internet from content creators, be it writers or graphic designers, that they've lost tons of work/clients due to the publicly available AI tools. And it's going to get much worse, as most of the largest companies still haven't started properly using AI tools (due to various reasons, e.g. legal issues) but once they get a green light, it might not look pretty for certain job types.

We are the creator on which it would be understandable that we are far more superior which is something that it is really that understandable but due to additional and advancement then it do really surpasses out human intelligence but this is something situational because we know that upgrades and improvements is really something that be added and applied but there are really key areas on which AI cant be able to touch up
other than humans itself. There might be some jobs that would really be replaced by AI but this wont really be totally be occupying on lots of industries but it wont be shocking if it would really be
dominated most of those positions which it could be somewhat applied. Company owners would really be that going into something which automation is indeed precise when it comes to support and other
passing up information kind of function and other similar relevance into this kind of field.

What the CEO of OpenAI said is true. No matter how much Chat GPT improves technology, this technology will never destroy your job market. Maybe this technology will make your work much easier, the work that used to take a lot of time will be done in a moment. That day I saw a video chat using GPT in agriculture. It is being used in agriculture so beautifully that it has made agriculture much more beautiful. But in this case people will lose some employment. Earlier many people were needed to do the agricultural work but nowadays not many people are needed to do that agricultural work, that agricultural work can be done in less time with the help of machines. So I think in this case people will lose some employment.

I am also a programmer but not really using it now but still I use mostly in automation it what I could say in AI is that it help me a lot interms of solving problem and making it an assistant in case there are problems. Also it is difficult to like rely on the code provided by  AI as there are ton of outdated codes as well as not working properly so still you need to review it

Initially experts accepted ChatGPT as just a cutting-edge technology but it is a cutting-edge technology but has created doubts in everyone's mind that maybe this technology will destroy the job market. This is possible because people are now dependent on technology. Earlier, where it used to take a lot of time for people to make a small calculation, accurate calculations are being done very easily through calculators. Here too, people have relied on technology.
ChatGPT If it is possible to use this technology somewhere instead of people then people will definitely use this technology. So it is still not possible to say with certainty whether the job market will be completely destroyed through this technology.

ChatGPT is a glorified LMGTFY 2.0 toy which will NOT replace anyone or their jobs. You are all safe. People are getting too excited about machine learning, despite the fact that we do not really understand how the human brain fully works, how can we already assume that we have created something superior to us and it will soon take over humanity or worse even, kill all of humanity?

It will change the job market and people will have to adapt. But people have been doing that throughout history. No need to panic.

It is true that ChatGPT won't destroy the job market directly, but adoption of such technologies can lead to some roles displacement. For instance, customer service representatives and content writers may be affected, if companies start relying heavily on bots like ChatGPT to interact with  customers and generate contents. In summary, the overall impact technology is positive as it helps spreads knowledge which can be used to improve productivity and foster creativity.

I don't think so, now there will job for people who can operate ChatGPT. This probably sounds stupid but I saw a bounty here where participants were expected to use chatGPT, ask it right questions and make content using it.

People seek for progress, and later complain that progress gonna make them lose jobs. Henry Ford started using conveyance assembly in car manufacturing business and people find it great, because it made cars more affordable, and easier to assembly. Now we have ChatGPT that basically does same historical thing, and people are afraid of it. We have machines and mechanisms that are used to produce simply everything; one machine replace 100 workers that work with their hands and people find it convenient, but not scary. So I dont get why people are afraid to lose jobs due to ChatGPT. I bet they havent used it at all. As so far it is more a toy than a thread.

ChatGPT is created to help and and things easier for mankind so I don't think it will destroy human labour. The purpose of creating and launching ChatGPT is to help man to reduce the stress of moving and navigating around the globe to find information so with ChatGPT everything will be easy. Op remember it is the same human being will still make use of this the same ChatGPT so if care is not taking, it will even increase the number of workers in the labour market because as a company more computer literates will be needed to carry out various activities so more computer devices will be needed in the company so human labour will be high. But not all companies. This will happen mostly in the institutional sectors. Because they are doing research more than other institutions.

Chatgpt will not destroy the job market because it is just a chat tool, it's like a dictionary, helping us to be convenient in life as well as work. But if we talk further about AI or robots, there is really a lot to think about because they can replace workers in the future. Currently, robots have been used in labor to replace humans doing heavy and dangerous jobs, but I think they will soon use robots to completely replace them if it works efficiently and gives good productivity. Technological progress will bring benefits but also threats to many people and professions because everything has pros and cons.

Absolutely I agree. It will be a very important detail to focus not only on the advantages but also on the disadvantages of AI, because the disadvantages are not on the agenda much, in fact those disadvantages easily lead to a bigger problem. Although the world population is constantly increasing, we should definitely not ignore the fact that AI lightens the workloads and therefore there will be less need for human labor. I think that many people will lose their jobs faster than in the past, especially because technology is developing rapidly and AI has the capacity to learn beyond expectations.
Although the goal of slowly progressing in the development of AI was set at the first stage unfortunately, there is a very serious competition in this field today and for this reason the development process of AI is developing much faster than the planned process.

If this technology is used in the workplace, many people will lose their jobs.
AI technology is being misused rather than utilized for assistance as you pointed out. Despite the fact that OpenAI launched ChatGPT specifically to aid people and not to take away jobs or exclude individuals from employment we see examples of ChatGPT being abused on this forum and reports of users posting inappropriate material with its help. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stresses that AI is there to improve human capabilities and knowledge not to eliminate jobs. It eliminates repetitive tasks allowing humans to concentrate on more intricate work. To succeed it is critical to adapt and develop new skills that complement AI. In order to appropriately incorporate AI it is crucial to prioritize worker welfare and ethical conduct inclusivity should be promoted and opportunities for retraining should be provided. Although the bot, ChatGPT, has exhibited unethical behaviors OpenAI seeks to provide support rather than replace jobs. Instances of misapplication demonstrate the necessity for responsible usage.

Modernization that is happening in almost all fields will of course make less and less use of human power, I work in a ceramics factory and the company modernizes the production process to packing and the result is around 75% of employees losing their jobs and this of course makes us sad after the development of Chatgpt.

Even if it was being used for assistance, sometimes it overdelivers and some startup business surely used ChatGPT more than just hiring developers. Just because it cannot do anything that a developer can't do does not mean it can't still improve in the upcoming years.

Although to be fair, just like I mentioned in the previous reply here, it could still be open to more jobs since dealing with AI let alone ChatGPT isn't just typing in the chat simply. There are those such things as prompt engineering and you might still need to know on how to deal with an AI. That would mean that it might still be open to more opportunity/jobs.

I can still recall back in the days when I try to automate filling up Excel sheets using Selenium with Python language.

We are far from the perfect AI technology, chatGPT is just an infant and its only for text but already there are many AI has been developed for other things too. Someone still has to maintain the software anyway. Maybe the scary part would be if AI would fix itself. There will always be a bug in a software and someone still has to fix those recurring bugs and maintain it.

I'm not suggesting "true" AI isn't possible. I'm suggesting the opposite. Actual AI is coming and will displace jobs. The current iteration leaves us with at least a couple decades before we have the crisis of millions of jobs being displaced.

Eventually human intelligence will be mimicked which will automate away jobs which will be irreplaceable. Assume by default that industries will see some millions of displaced workers unless there's evidence to indicate otherwise.

Knowing previous technological innovations, jobs have always been displaced. But new ones were created. AI eliminates the creation of new jobs by inherent nature.

Short Answer --> AI (current AI) can not replace or destroy the job market

Long Answer --> Let's understand a scenario first, back in the 2000s or maybe before it many code or program code maker applications were developed which could write some lines of code to make a program and people used to say this will replace programmers job (resource --> heard it in an interview), Second scenario is when Tesla represented its idea of the automatic cars (autopilot) and many people debated how it will end the career of Taxi, Uber, etc.

Now, we can check in the past there were many technologies that made people think that they will replace human labor. No wonder many machines have been successful enough to replace humans such as in the industrial production of cars, bikes, and other things but still there is a need for humans to operate them, even if you are using a Tesla you have to keep pre-cautions or if you are using those program code generators before the 2000s, you still need a human to give a good command so that you could generate a code output.

The point is, AI might destroy the jobs by reducing the number of job holders but job holders will find another way as they will elevate their level of skills which is much better for the evolution of new technologies. if you didn't understand my point then take an example again. Let's take my example, i am a computer science student who studies in a low-grade University where teachers do not know how to teach as they are not experts in the subjects they are teaching us, So i personally depend on ChatGpt to get answers to my every query even i ask gpt to read long research papers for me and shorten it to few paragraphs for easy reading When i do not understand something i just put a simple command " i am not a technical person please help me to understand this topic" and boom it teaches me better then my teachers, and you assume if i am learning better, whose benefit in it, (ok i am not that bright student but let's replace a bright one with me) then how much impact he could make with enhance and understandable knowledge he is acquiring.

The level of mass delusion in this thread is astounding. No one can actually point to any specific reason why would humans be irreplaceable. The only argument is "it has not happened in the past, therefore it will never happen".

It reminded me of this old video, in which author is showing how dumb this argument sounds when we try to apply the same logic to horses (from 3:30):

https://youtu.be/7Pq-S557XQU?t=211

It doesn't take much effort to google and find out that AI is already affecting the job market.

I never said that, people are replaceable but the big point missed is that society gains from the task more easily done by an automated construction such as an engine or modern tech like this is no different to the other progressive replacement of people seen by machines.  We gained from industry doing basic labor jobs more easily and efficiently, we'll gain from this too.
The point is it helps us more then it holds us back, if chatgpt can repeat search engine information to supply an answer faster and quicker then a person then great.  The person is capable of more then the bot in recalling information, the person should be doing more important work.  If the capitalist market says you do another job and should find a path to do it then its a gain all round, we dont have plain capitalist market economies anyway people are helped to transfer in their jobs very often.

On the same thing about ChatGPT, Sam Altman have said it won't destroy the job market. The innovation doesn't mean there is no job to be done by the humans. The main purpose behind ChatGPT is to serve the human beings with assistance. Having assistance will help in getting works done faster. Maybe this is how Sam Altman looks ChatGPT, but surely it'll have some destruction in the job market in my understanding. When something is progressive, there'll be something that needs to give way. This is how the job market gonna get affected with the existence of ChatGPT.

ChatGPT will definitely have impacts on the job market, there is no point to argue around it. The  vast amount of data and text that can be produced with ChatGPT offers opportunity in almost every sector. Companies can't stay away from it for too long, it's going to become mandatory. In my opinion the lower skilled jobs are at risk to be taken over by ChatGPT the earliest. But this will also create new jobs, there still needs to be some form of control and oversight over the bots. I would also expect the service industry to grow with the bots, at first it might be nice to communicate with AIs. But eventually humans will prefer to communicate with other humans again. There could be some new premium services that offer human interaction. Also the more we work from home with no contact with other humans the more interesting it becomes to go out in the evening. There could be a rise of restaurants and bars that leads to more people working in the service industry.

I think it depends on the technology because there are also some who only destroy the peoples lives. It also depends on the people. As long as they use the Technology properly and have limitations, they will only attain the benefits and not the disadvantages. I don't know what happens to Chatgpt on why some are having a difficulty.

This is only just a software and people can just ignore it if it is making their lives miserable. If it's about losing a job, I don't think workers will allow this shit to take over. Given that there are risks when using a Chatgpt, business owners aren't likely considering this as a replacement to the human workers. If this affects their company, that will be a big problem instead of being practical.

I feel like it would be very important to learn how to use it though, a CEO will not go about using chatgpt or any other AI themselves, it is not going to be them making a deal out of it, maybe startups would use it at first, or maybe one person company with no employee would, but big companies won't. So, you would still be hired, instead of someone who knows about some other software we had so far, we are going to be asked the AI version instead.

I am sure that from personal assistant to designer, everyone in between as well, used some software at their work so far, it would just simply turn into an AI software that you can use, and that's why more people would be able to do it but you would still be using it, worker will still be needed, because CEO won't do it anyway.

Exactly, companies wouldn't risk their reputation by just using AI as their tool to their work. Its actually not a good idea especially when it got leaked that some companies are relying into AI instead of doing some research which is more accurate. Some people think it could replace the workers but it won't since it's just a convenient tool made for us, but in our history there's a lot of job that has been overtaken by the technology already but so far in this new introduced AI it wouldn't be a threat. Companies still need a brain where it could do tasks that AI couldn't do like emailing.

A "convenient tool" can easily become too convenient and the go-to means because its
a "convenient FREE tool"

At what point in the future with engaging AI instead of a human to do research
become the everyday norm? if it means humans can save money it will become

I believe that if AI is replacing human labor in a specific field, it means that job isn't necessary anymore. It doesn't have a reason to exist anymore, and if it still existed, it would be solely in proof of charity for someone in order to not let him without an income. AI will really destroy some niches of jobs market, but that is inevitable taking evolution and technological development in consideration. It's not a new phenomenon in this world to see this happening.

What people have to do is to adapt themselves to the currently reality the world is facing. To explore or create new niches of jobs market. To make themselves useful for the new demands the world is imposing on the people. To protest against AI asking for a kind of censorship against it won't work, as it has never worked so far in humanity's history...

Used in place of humans,
Technology can never replace humans. ChatGPT only accesses the information that exists online and have been fed to it by you and I. Therr isn't anything more than that and at most, it could be wrong too, don't you think. Giving you information in the context that isn't of much importance.

Be it as  it may, the human perspective is unique and that's something some bot can't handle. While ChatGPT might help you to understand better, there would always be limitations to it.

Chatgpt will not be a threat to us,

Don't say that; most of the technology we are using today has good intentions and has made our lives easier, but few of them are at a greater disadvantage than the major purpose they were built for. If ChatGPT operates the way it is programmed to operate and is integrated into a talking machine, what else do you think the real world will need some teachers for? When all they have to do is buy some machines and let them speak and educate their students, by doing so they will reduce the number of needed teachers in every given institution. Which will increase the number of unemployed citizens; on the other hand, business owners will see it as a means to save up fewer funds.

Quote
but AI, and robots will be the things that will probably take our jobs later. I think our world is moving

This is the reason why most scientists and other world researchers are already fighting against the rapid growth of this so-called robot and AI adoption, because a time will come when those machines will reprogram themselves to harm their developers. Everything in this world has its place, and those machines should just be used for their intended purposes and nothing more than that.

Quote
towards a world like sci-fi movies where humanity will be enslaved to Robot and AI. And they will not only take our jobs, but also rule the world. Just like money is a human invention, but today we are serving money, it is not serving us.

It's only the greedy that worship money; money is meant to be earned, made, and used for the exchange of our daily needs and nothing more than that. It's those who want more from money and are doing something extra ordinary just to make that money, for which they can't even define the real purpose of why they need it, who should be classified as people worshipping money, not everyone.

Many countries Bannde ChatGPT for fear of making big changes for work, will automatically continue to develop and make many people unemployed, but I'm sure the development and use of chatgpt will not be stopped because of future trends and effective, accurate and efficient industrial needs, as humans We must be prepared and find solutions to be able to compete when chatgpt is legalized
You're mistaken, many European countries have banned Chatgpt because of privacy, it collects too much user data without their permission. They are not afraid it will affect the job market, even they don't care about it because our world is becoming modern, technology development is inevitable. Moreover, how an automated talking tool can destroy the job market. Is that too absurd?

Banning something is hardly an effective strategy, maybe you can control the cotton and material making industry of a local economy but here we are talking about information handling.   To ban just means to ask 'please another country, other people take this business away as we prefer to work longer hours on repetitious tasks'.  They will block any import of that product at a lower cost then we can do; this is just the thinking of a dictator manipulating their country to their own advantage.
Society wont gain from banning the use of technology any more then it did in attempts to do so hundreds of years ago as in every advance forward people feared and attempted to obstruct it; perfectly natural reaction but an economy is indirect and macro picture view to gains a nation might realize in sum total.

People should also change with the change of era. And if man cannot adopt with the time then he must fall back. If people are afraid of chat GPT then there is nothing to do because instead they should try how they can make themselves more efficient. There are some downsides to using chat GPT based on which many countries are planning to ban it but according to the up gradation of technology AI tools including chat GPT are being used more and more.

As I know, the ban on chatGPT in some countries is due to privacy and not because the government is afraid it will cause unemployment. But whatever the reason, we live in an age where technology is an inevitable part of life. So we need to adapt to them, not to fear and avoid them. The more technology develops, the more we need to raise awareness and knowledge to take advantage of it to benefit us, don't let them rob us of our jobs. We need to grow up and adapt to everything, don't stay in one place forever, you will be eliminated. That is the law of life.

If this technology is used in the workplace, many people will lose their jobs.

the world would probably change a lot, because of something like that,
now everything is all technology.
so it's likely that some of the old jobs will be replaced by AI, and new jobs will also emerge in the future.
everything must be in balance if you really want the earth to continue to develop.

I don't think it will have any global impact in the future. One way or another, companies will hire experienced employees with a greater knowledge and skills base, and artificial intelligence now works more as an assistant than completely replacing a person. This will definitely not affect all professions, but optimization in the IT world will definitely happen, but I don’t think it will happen very soon.

In market field, people will always try to find the unique one and choose them as their first choice. AI is a thing that is taught by limited knowledge. It has restrictions that it can not overcome if not a human is involved to program it that way.
Low budget or low quality tasks could be done by AI, there's no doubt. But when it comes to refine tasks and a human touch is needed, AI will never be the primary choice. I saw a very informative video which includes a discussion between Arun(YouTuber of the largest tech channel called Mrwhosetheboss) and the CEO of Google Sundar Pichai. This is the YouTube link with the timestamp so that you can jump right into the important part of the video. Click here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eK9TtRwKFY&t=5m58s)
So what I want to say after this is that we will learn to live our daily life and AI technology will not ruin the flow of our life. If implemented correctly, it will help us in a lot of situations and with human and AI combined, we will have a life that is unimaginable. Calculator for an example. Many thought that we will lose the ability to do math correctly if we are introduced to calculators. Look at us now how it has made our life easy and in every situation of calculation we are using calculator. AI will do the same one day, that's for sure. So the job market may struggle for a bit in the beginning, but as we get used to it and start using it the right way, I don't think people will lose their job, rather many will join the market with the help of AI and they will create their own way of doing things with the mix of human brain and the capability of AI.

most jobs need a hand from actual employees. so yeah, chatgpt won't replace the workforce. it may be good in answering some questions, but how can you expect them to do like basic home chores, fix machines, do hard labor, etc. so people should not worry about the rise of this technology. you can still have an advantage over AI, you have the human mind and physical body that AI can't replace with.
there may be specific jobs that may replace this chatgpt but as a human, you have all the advantages to find an alternative job where chatgpt is not a employed in any way.

You yourself admit that AI acts as an assistant - well, is that assistant efficient? Can it help a person process more work in the same time? If so, the more efficient that "assistant" is, the fewer people you need to do the same amount of work, meaning some of them are no longer needed. It's not hard to grasp, is it?

AI technologies like ChatGPT have the power to transform the job market by automating certain tasks. However, they also create new opportunities and drive positive change. To thrive in this evolving landscape, it is critical to adapt and engage in continuous learning.

Don't rely solely on AI, but be a smart user by evaluating and verifying the output produced by AI technology. By embracing new skills and staying up-to-date, individuals can navigate the changing job market and take advantage of the opportunities that arise from advances in AI.

It creates new opportunities for others, and others may also lose some, like, let's say, replacing those people with a chat bot, but still, it is not completely replaced because there is still live support needed. What's really good is that it can ease your job, like me, who likes automating stuff so that there is less work, but the cons are that those students have the biggest problem right now because those assignments can easily be solved, and the problem is that they don't understand it. I hope it will be used for good.

I certainly do not think that ChatGPT will destroy the job market. It will have so many government regulations that this will prevent it from taking over certain jobs. Besides at this point, it is still in early stages that it is still not 100% capable of taking over any jobs.

I think that maybe in the future there will be a greater competition with ChatGPT verus humans. I’m hoping that this will eventually be more positive than negative. Knowing that we are transitioning into a different form of how we can somehow better our lifestyle. Take it as improving wellbeing and knowing that we can do better.

Most likely yes, because at the moment we do not know all the possibilities that AI will be able to own, after a while, when it will improve. All this should lead to an improvement in the quality of human life, but at the initial stages it can deprive many jobs. At one time, the mechanization of production processes also led to the fact that robots replaced people and were able to work more, and people lost their jobs.

I totally agree, companies will definitely increase their AI usage rates in order to continue production more efficiently with less cost. Although this situation is something that will increase the efficiency of the company, unfortunately it has the potential to cause huge unemployment which poses a danger for people in many job groups. Moreover, if we consider that AI technology is in the development stage today both ChatGPT and other AI software will develop much more in the future and will be able to perform more serious operations compared to now. Although this is something that will contribute to production efficiency it will unfortunately cause people working in many occupational groups to lose their jobs.

It's a little pointless that people are losing their jobs over Chatgpt. I think that ChatGPT will make some tasks easier for people. This may reduce the number of jobs in the related sectors. But there can be no substitute for humans in determining the accuracy of information or in very basic creative work. There is no alternative to being creative and basic to save jobs in the age of automation, the same case with ChatGPT. In this case, the time and energy that ChatGPT will save people, how people will use it, the issue of having a job or not will depend on it.

Off course not, he's trying to build a positive image for the company he's managing and for the industry.

In fact, new opportunities arise with the advent of ChatGPT, which can be a lucrative income source. Until now, the response from ChatGPT can be maximized by employing effective prompt methods. However, not everyone possesses the necessary experience in utilizing prompts. Starting from now, you won't fall behind significantly, as ChatGPT is still in its infancy.

It is better to embrace this than to settle for being someone with average skills that ChatGPT can easily perform. For instance, individuals with standard or lower-level writing skills should actively seek alternative opportunities. Clearly, they face a threat from the superior capabilities of ChatGPT in swiftly processing sentences and words.

Concerns about job mobility and the possibility of AI replacing workers are understandable. As AI technology evolves, there may be a change in the types of tasks and jobs available, and certain roles may become automated. This highlights the importance of promoting education and skills development programs to equip individuals with the skills needed in a growing job market. Furthermore, it is important for policymakers, businesses, and society at large to prioritize ethical considerations and ensure that AI systems are designed to enhance human capabilities instead of completely replacing them. Ultimately, responsible and ethical use of AI is essential to ensure that the benefits of the technology are widespread and inclusive, rather than disproportionately affecting a few individuals or groups.

What you're missing is that many of those people that opposed new technologies and automation actually had their lives ruined by the changes. Looking at the big picture all look nice, as, historically, technological progress actually created more jobs, but things weren't that rosy on an individual level. Especially when we're talking about times when people would only work one job their entire life. So don't be quick with the judgements. Fear is not automatically bad and it has a solid evolutionary purpose.

I think it's important people first understand that ChatGPT and other "AI bots" of it's ilk, aren't true "AI" yet, or "AGI", artificial general intelligence.  When AGI is discovered, that's the true game changer.  Then AI will be able to think, self reason, self educate etc, without barriers that programmers code in which keep them from being "human like".

I think technology in general has hurt jobs over the years, but it also creates others, and forces man kind to re-establish how things are done.  I don't think this will be a huge worry inside the next decade or so, but there will come a time it gets worse, that's for sure.

To some extent it'll have the impact on the job market. The AI were developed to support the human beings, but the same beyond the human thinking will be dangerous as well as keeps the human beings under control. Recently came across an article in which beta version of the software is loaded with AI. The software is for video and image editing, which can done just by giving comments. These things will surely create job reduction with people who are committed in those industry/business.

Although it can really hurt the employment rate, there are still works to be done by human rather than relying on these technologies.

OpenAI tools are bound to handle those works that humans can't do. It means those current work fields will still be worked by real humans and AI tools will just provide some assistance to them, especially with the hard part. About employment rate, it depends on the field of the said industry. If these companies will get big advantages by using AI tools, then we can say that they don't need too many workforces.

As much as I agree with this, the fact is that a huge portion of current jobs require people to just follow a specific pattern, where little to no personal judgement is required. Whatsmore, the "human element" of engaging thoughts that are not needed for the specific task is often undesired (e.g. causes distraction, which leads to mistakes).
And even for the holistic way of looking at the world, this can still be dissected, analysed and replicated, it'll just take a little bit longer.

I have not read the entire thread and I look forward to doing so.

Yes it will.

I am a researcher and I focus on workplace culture among other things. My current estimation is the current wave of Ai will have radical impacts on the workforce. It will and has eliminated repetitive jobs. As some have mentioned, that is good because it also create certain jobs.

The problem is the workforce is not flexible enough to bend to the changes and the damage will be big. Time will tell how big.

The ways I am seeing people making use of chatGPT nowadays, I am also thinking this can really destroy job opportunities because, what a human being will do something and take some time, the Al chatbot will easily do it in a short time. But this is an early stage of AI technology, and some people have started talking negatively about it because it is not perfect and doesn't reason like human beings.

Yes, a lot of people will lose their jobs because if Al chatbot is already doing what a human being can do and take time and Al chatbot will do it perfectly easily with less time than human beings, what will be the reason why many companies will have many human beings workers again? I believe it will surely affect job opportunities.

Maybe for jobs like being support staff who based on these online platforms can feel that their jobs are threatened ,  but still if these bots will be giving generic answers and customers learn of this, it could turn against a company using these AI's as their customers wouldn't feel well cared for and will take their business  where they will be treasured !

But still, we have jobs that require human presence and AI alone can not exist and it will always be like that, though certain jobs that don't require some expertise will certainly  go redundant for sure.

If anyone would open some kind of job market webpage, they would find out that there are still a huge variety of positions to be taken. People rarely work on one position for entire life. If due to ChatGPT a person looses a job, I am 100% sure there will be an open position for him. Maybe not in same field, but with minimum learning he could retrain to someone else. If a person is a professional or narrow profile specialist, he will always find and have a job. Even if person isnt lazy and complaining on ChatGPT is not all what he can do, he will find a job.

Support is an important element of the service, and I think many will agree with me when I say that it's annoying when a bot answers your questions with formulaic phrases. Of course, someone will decide that this will be enough to support, but even now bots are used, in quite a few resources.

ChatGPT at this stage of development is not yet sufficiently developed to be a real competitor for humans, but if we try to think about the future, it is quite possible that this will ever happen and AI will reach the level where it can massively replace humans in many jobs. So far, this is not something to be afraid of, but it is worth thinking about.

Everything in life has it's purpose and uniqueness, the AI is a very good Innovation and yes, it will lead to the decrease in the demand of work force but truth be told, it can never replace the human power/place.

Humans are unique too and their role in any firm or business entity can never be over emphasized, besides, the AI would need a human to help in it's operation wouldn't it??

It is true that the increasing of chat bots and other AI technologies may lead to changes in the job market. Chat bots can automate certain tasks and processes, which can lead to increased efficiency and cost savings for businesses. This may result in some job losses in certain industries, particularly those that rely heavily on repetitive or routine tasks that can be automated. Chat bots and other AI technologies can also create new job opportunities like development and maintenance of chat bots requires specialized skills such as programming and natural language processing. The increasing use of chat bots may create new roles in customer service and support, where human agents work alongside chat bots to provide a more personalized and efficient customer service experience. It is difficult to predict the exact impact of chat bots on the job market. It is important for individuals to remain adaptable and continously develop new skills to remain competitive in a rapidly changing job market.

It sounds like you're contradicting yourself here a little bit here. You admit that AI will replace people in many jobs while claiming that humans are irreplaceable.
Even if we still need people to supervise AI operations, that does not mean the problem doesn't exist. It's not much of a consolation if you have 10 people operating certain AI tool if that tool replaced tens of thousands of people in their jobs.

Besides, can you name a single type of job that cannot be replaced by AI/automation and explain why?

AI is still a long way from being approved to be used in physical form. Automated and programmable machinery is good enough in factories, there is no need to add AI. Using AI to enhance programming and functions on the other hand, yes, a use-case.

Retail and dominating manual labor sectors will not be entrusted to AI, until physical form AI is approved. Again, a long way away. However the operations in retail and planning in labor/infrastructure sectors will be improved by AI.

I think you can see where I am coming. AI is the precursor to improvement in physical markets. Not replacement. Not yet anyway.

Online on the other hand is quite a different story. Programming will become the art of describing an application to AI. Those with the best linguistic skills will become as good as a coder who has been in the business for 20+ years. This goes for a lot of business and innovation that goes on online.

When taking the potential effect of online work (which will be effected first), it won't be surprising if this drives a lot of people who are making a living out of online work, like coding, have to re-enter the physical job force.

ChatGPT is the beginning of AI technology which will certainly change a lot of work systems, now many countries are starting to regulate to limit the use of AI, even many European countries report Banned ChatGPT for fear of being the beginning of a disaster when they are not ready to find new jobs for workers.

I appreciate your view, yet I feel there's a misinterpretation. AI isn't merely a program anymore. Even if not running our homes or workplaces, it's significantly impacting our daily routine. Ever encountered a Roomba? That's tangible AI!

In factories, automation works wonders. However, with AI's rise, we can reach novel levels of efficiency and accuracy. Worth pondering over, right?

AI, in retail and labor sectors, enhances optimization instead of replacing humans. This trend is poised to endure until we develop trust in AI's autonomy.

Digitally, AI is transforming industries. Does it mean coders have to switch to physical jobs? Not really! They might need to update their skills, part of the innovation process, isn't it?

Concerns about job mobility and the possibility of AI replacing workers are understandable. As AI technology evolves, there may be a change in the types of tasks and jobs available, and certain roles may become automated. This highlights the importance of promoting education and skills development programs to equip individuals with the skills needed in a growing job market. Furthermore, it is important for policymakers, businesses, and society at large to prioritize ethical considerations and ensure that AI systems are designed to enhance human capabilities. people instead of completely replacing them. Ultimately, responsible and ethical use of AI is essential to ensure that the benefits of the technology are widespread and inclusive, rather than disproportionately affecting a few individuals or groups. certain.

That is why I don't see it as a threat to my job; I see it as an innovation. I am the kind of person who is lazy and wants to automate those tasks that are boring and repetitive. I've been using it right now, and I've developed my own script to automate specific tasks, which also buys me time for my job. Either I go on social media or play games a little while the script is running. What I really want to point out is that it makes your life easier and can become your buddy in your task, as it will do almost everything for you.
I also believe AI is a tool just to support learning and help in providing solutions to complex problems, however according to some reliable source like programmers AI produce or output alot of coding errors which produces bug, though experience coders do rectify those errors or bugs however AI fastened their coding time and I am of the opinion it can't destroy our daily jobs because there some complex task which I believe only human being can handle efficiently which AI wouldn't have any solution to it, however that does not mean we should discard the technology it's use well embrace and utilize it positively to enhance human learning.

I would argue that AI technologies like ChatGPT are often intended to assist humans rather than replace them outright. The goal is to improve productivity, streamline tasks, and provide valuable support. Regardless, the impact of AI on the job market is complex and multifaceted. While automation and AI can lead to the replacement of certain job roles, they can also create new opportunities and transform industries. So to minimize potential disruptions, we and society can focus on reskilling, upskilling, and adapting to the changing needs of the job market.

Yes, perhaps chatgpt can eventually lead to some people losing their jobs, but it can also create new jobs in many different areas. Every new invention somewhat changes the job market: cars, TV, internet etc created a myriad of new jobs for example.

I think that ChatGPT will hasten the destruction of certain jobs. Did you know that in the tech world, it is being utilize more, although human programmers are still need though. We have watched AI produce music, art, and other amazing stuff and it is obvious that it cannot just be ignored. It will be interest to watch what jobs will be taken by AI and what jobs will remain.

The development of AI may not immediately replace human work because the AI project has just been released so there are still many shortcomings to be developed for the next few years, but there is a very potential threat of destroying human work in the next few years, you plan a new strategy from now on if you think your work will be replaced by AI technology, the first strategy has been planning backup jobs or starting a new business even you involve AI in your business instead of paying employee salaries. So AI technology has pros and cons depending on each other's opinion, but we don't go to the past to avoid AI technology, so take advantage of AI technology to create new businesses because anyone can use AI without any restrictions.

It doesn't support learning, people don't need to learn if they know how to use AI.  ;D
I suspect people become lazier when AI can cover every field in life, people no longer want to force their efforts.

By the way, I agree that not every job can be done by AI. Some jobs with complicated tasks are difficult to handle by AI, only humans can do it. We must understand that AI still has a limitation, while the human mind is endless. The human mind is improving, while AI technology is programmed and planned. There should be some jobs that only people can handle it, AI won't be a solution for some specified jobs.

We should not forget that this poses several challenges that must be considered before continuing the development process. Unfortunately, what is happening today indicates that we have entered the path of no return and that no one is thinking about the consequences of that development.
I do not mean only the number of jobs that will be eliminated by artificial intelligence, but rather a global system that is unable, according to an estimate, to absorb similar technologies. Just as it happened when Alfred Nobel discovered explosives, which he thought would be used exclusively in digging mines and digging roads in the mountains, but he collided with the outbreak of a world war because of that invention that almost destroyed humanity if they continued using it at the same pace.

I see AI as a powerful tool to support and enhance knowledge. They can provide insights, suggestions, and guidance when faced with a challenge. However, people still need to develop critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and a deep understanding of concepts. So while AI can provide quick solutions and answers, I still recommend encouraging a holistic approach to learning. Because the learning process involves more than just finding the right answer, So anyway, you can combine the benefits of AI with active participation, hands-on practice, and peer-to-peer discussion to create a well-rounded learning experience that fosters critical thinking, problem solving, and effective communication.
Artificial intelligence can indeed be used to increase the insight of its users. or it can also be used in the world of work to simplify and increase the effectiveness of work. it's just that what many people worry about is that they are afraid that artificial intelligence will make the number of jobs narrower due to the potential for some professions to be replaced by artificial intelligence. Even some TV stations are already using AI to host or host their news shows. In Indonesia, the ONE TV station is also developing it and it is likely that in the near future there will be an AI presenter.

That is really the future that I am looking for or what we would see because of AI right now, and it is really keeping advancing, but I do hope that it will not be catastrophic in the job industry. I am sure, however, that it will create more jobs in the technology niche because businesses are adopting this and are trying to automate their tasks and easily and quickly feed information. I am also one of those people who is happy that AI exists, as it has helped me a lot in my work.
In certain fields of work, of course, the presence of artificial intelligence has really helped a lot. especially technology-based jobs and so on. Even today, many students rely on AI to help their learning process. and for unskilled laborers, they actually don't have to worry about the presence of AI taking their jobs. But for employees of certain stores and professions that can be replaced by AI, they may be feeling the anxiety of losing their job right now. this is where we need to have a high level of adaptation in welcoming the latest technology. that is, we have to be at the forefront of learning the latest technologies such as AI.

AI's impact on the job market is there and it's being felt. AI and automation technologies have the potential to automate and streamline many routine and repetitive tasks across a variety of industries. This can lead to monitoring of employment in certain sectors, particularly those that rely heavily on manual or repetitive labour.

AI has the potential to tackle increasingly complex tasks normally performed by humans. While some jobs may require unique human skills and creativity, it is possible that AI may eventually surpass human capabilities in certain areas when viewed visually. But they still require human involvement and judgment in the end.

When asked about this, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said the technology will never destroy the job market. Rather, this technology will solve things that people never know about.  Since all tasks can be solved easily through this technology, this bot system may be used instead of humans in various work fields.

While it's true that some jobs may remain resilient to AI disruption, many industries and job roles will require workers to develop new skills and adapt to changing technology. Only challenge lies in providing adequate training and support for individuals to retrain and transition into new roles and this in my view if lacking should be added.

I can recall the rise of machines with this because before those factory workers were really generating tons of jobs for people because it really needed manpower, but because of those robots, it replaced that manpower, but not all of the factory workers lost their jobs. There are still factories that are not migrating to robots as they want more to be hand made, so this will also be the same with this AI. For sure, there are still people who will not lose their jobs. Let's just make it for good or a stepping stone to upskill ourselves.

It's definitely an unknown at the moment, but sometimes predictions are massively overblown and they do help to sell advertising space next to the opinions of the most controversial writers. Much like NFTs were claiming to revolutionise the way that people licensed and used images, the reality is that an absolute ton of money was wasted on this nonsense that has since imploded. Chatgpt definitely has much more practical usage but it's benefits could easily be overstated and the transition could be a lot slower than anticipated. It will certainly help in things like customer service work, chatbot type activity and broad data analysis.

Depends on usage in my opinion. I don't think it will destroy the job market in general. On the contrary, it will uncover and complete tasks previously unknown to people. Makes sense as you said above. If this technology is implemented in the workplace, it can lead to job losses as certain tasks can be performed by bots instead of humans. I think the ultimate impact on the job market remains unclear and hinges on how these technologies will be integrated and adopted across industries.

It must be admitted that chatgpt helps us many things without the need for the help of other people,
but if it's going to hurt the job market I hope it won't even though the possibility will always be there,
we have to see further how far the development of this AI technology will go and the policies for adopting it later.
