Title: These are the physical crypto brands that PCGS currently grades
Post by: 2stout on June 25, 2023, 03:09:33 AM
Here are 2 ways to keep up and stay current with which physical crypto brands (currently @ 14) that PCGS grades.

https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/category/world-coins/decentralized-currency/cryptocurrency/203113

or

https://www.pcgs.com/pop, then scroll down and select Decentralized Currency, then select Cryptocurrency to expand the list.  You can then click on the brands to see the graded population totals.

Interesting list they have.... looks like there are many that they have not graded yet like the Cryptocracy:

Almost looks like they just copied the list of most of the coins out of the encyclopedia

Can confirm that Bitcoin Suisse and Polymerbit notes are graded by PCGS.

Has anyone tried grading other banknote makers?

Yeah it makes you wonder what it takes to get you on their list. I know I submitted mine and after waiting 6 months was told

they would not encapsulate and grade them....yet they are grading scam coins!  ::)

Thanks for confirming.  The banknote part is tricky and may require more manual research as the pop report seems to easily reflect coins and not banknotes as so much.

This seems like de ja vu - seems we had a thread with the same comments about 6-9 months ago - hell if I can find it though.

I have one poly note graded by them and the information they put is wrong - polymerbit confirmed the information is correct. I plan to cut it out of their ugly flimsy holder and just put it with the rest in my currency binder.

ICG is the crypto grading standard anyway lol

Are they guaranteeing any authenticity like ICG does, or are they simply slabbing them? If just slabbing, why not slab any damn coin? Otherwise if they are “authenticating”, then we’ve got a problem.

I believe the gold shield on the label implies authentication; however, as with all the grading houses, none are guaranteeing the load value.

I emailed them to ask what criteria and also why certain coin makers are accepted and not others....they responded as follows..

Thank you for contacting PCGS Customer Service.

Some coins are not gradable because we do not have enough research or information on them. We cannot confirm why one coin may be graded and why another may not, as it will all depend on whether or not our graders feel they are comfortable enough and/or have enough resources and research to grade these coins.

Please let me know if you have any following questions.

Best Regards,
Celinda

Sounds like a bunch of BS....  "Graders feeling comfortable" ???   Are the graders also authenticating?
I would think with a company of PCGS size/cost, they would have authenticators who do this before the coins even reach the graders

Maybe they need to hire one of us!! :D

Indeed...you would think that right?  I know Stacks uses Elias for their crypto....why cant PCGS do something similar?

In time I believe they will come around and find someone who can fill that niche and examine their crypto collectables.

I just wish others have Jumbo slabs for I wouldnt have to wait for PCGS to come around and do mine.

I wasted 6 bloddy months for them to tell me no and of course paying the fee as well. ::)

NGC grade some of them?

NGC grade some of them?

Nope. Tread93 here on BitcoinTalk knows the owner, or has at least met/spoken with the owner and asked him why they don’t grade/slab physical cryptocurrency coins and he stated “we only grade real coins”. Tread then said, well you slabbed those McDonalds Big Mac coins, and he replied “those are really nice coins”.

Even if they start opening up grading for these coins, I’m going elsewhere..despite imo the NGC slabs being the best slabs by far.
