Title: 10 Years
Post by: EFS on July 26, 2023, 07:58:58 PM
I registered in this forum ten years ago. I've found out about Bitcoin and this forum in early 2013 but didn't need to register back then. I signed up on 26th July 2013 and I'm here for a decade. I never imagined I'd be here this long. This forum has been an important part of my life, just like Bitcoin.

Glad I decided to sign-up here 10 years ago. Here I met very good people from all nationalities, made good friends and had job opportunities. Even though sometimes I took a break from writing to the forum due to dramas and tiredness, I never stopped moderating the forum. I tried my best to make the forum work as intended.

I hope to be here longer. I think I'll stay here until Theymos decides to close the forum. I would like to see at least new forum software. :P

I like this old forum software  :D

This forum is an important part of my life as well, just like bitcoin. Both of them changed my life, for better.

I am here for 5 years and a half.

Your 10 y mark is impressive. Congrats

Wow :o congratulations on 10 years in this forum, it's amazing you have become a lot of motivation even with other members.

I've been here for a long time, but I've also been inactive for other reasons, next year will be just a celebration for 1 decade. ;D

Yeah, now we know the forum has become part of our nose. :D

A forum like this should never be closed... but sometimes things go away and as long as you have this thoughts it means the idea may have been suggested before. Good things never last.

A question for this. If you decided to close the forum what happens to the forum treasure then? I mean is it your own money or you will be sending it back to Satoshi known addresses?

EFS, happy 10th birthday to you. I don't have many words to make you happy, but still be the best regardless of your position.
October 17, 2024 I too will have 10 years on this forum. Obviously that would be a lot of fun, but my 9th birthday will soon be on October 17, 2023.

As one of bitcointalk user, we know you as a good user and a good staff. Once again, congrats, EFS.

I can still remember creating my first thread after which I received some suggestions to learn about the forum, how everything works and also improve my Bitcoin and crypto knowledge in other for me to be able to contribute to discussion. And I'm pretty sure some of your posts and contribution to several were among those I read that helped me during my growth here in the forum.

You have been able to achieve so many things since you came to the forum, from just registering an account to becoming a staff, so I want to use this opportunity to congratulate you on all your achievement and I pray you achieve more.
Congratulations @EFS

Congrats! Only few legendary bitcoin OGs can do that. What an achievement perhaps. Coz others were already passed away, getting tired, inactive, tried to lie low, yet you are here almost everyday active knowing you are an active mod and a signature campaign participant. I hope we are still here in another decade, long live bitcointalk. 🥳

Congratulations EFS! I can only imagine how nostalgic you are on how time flies.. ten years ago, you were just finding your way round the forum and now, you're not just a reputable member, but you've got ten years under your belt to show for it. I may not have as much years as you (as I'm still literally a baby here) but at least I got ranked up to a member status today. Congrats on your milestone achievement.

I believe theymos will not close this forum and if he plan to abandon it, he will give it to a second admin (Cyrus) or other global moderators to take over the head admin position. Similar to how theymos took over the forum from satoshi.

Congrats! Continuing for 10 years is something to be proud of. You were active in 2013 and 2014. I would like you to tell us your experience, especially since during that period a large part of people lost their confidence in Bitcoin and it turned into a failed investment instead of a high-risk asset.
I hope you celebrate 30 years, long life, health and wellness.

Congratz dear EFS for completing 10 years of your life on Bitcointalk. This period looks very long but when you build your interest in something and you begin to love it. Then you cannot keep track of time. And at the end you think of it like it was yesterday. You have done so good till now and i do not think this forum is going anywhere as this forum is as old as BTC and the creator of BTC was on this forum too.

Which makes it very unique.

Congrats EFS. I've also passed the 10 year mark recently (back in May). Crazy how long we've been here already.
Congratulations to you too dear Mitchell, you have also passed 10 years on this forum and my words for EFS are same for you. The time period is not small but it looks like it was a thing of yesterday when you build up love for it. I hope you will grow more and could spend another decade here or for infinity.

Since 2013 you have put a lot of effort and time into this bitcointalk forum which is not possible for everyone to devote so many years, but you have been here for 10 long years which is really admirable of you, and a great pleasure for us. We respect you for having an experienced and wise person like you and also wish you a thousand good wishes and pray to God for your future.

Great, another anniversary lately. Moreover, among the staff.

You and the rest of the forum administration had a celebration, didn't you? :)

From whom did you hear about the existence of this forum? Google search for the word "bitcoin" or friends recommended to you?

Indeed, you are absolutely right in saying that there are a lot of wonderful people here and, most importantly, they are all united by one idea - bitcoin.

10 years of moderation deserves full dedication and, of course, it is worthy of respect. Thank you for your hard work and contribution to bitcointalk, for your time and for allowing users like me to enjoy the fruits of your labor and dedication.

Let's hope that the forum will exist for a long time and you are with it.

I sincerely thank you and congratulate you on this landmark achievement.

Let not the desire to continue the activity here and further does not fade away in you.

Happy 10 year anniversary I guess time is running out because I remember the date I created my account and it's amazing that you witnessed two or three halvings with all the rush and absence from the forum.
Please be careful, some accounts take advantage of such topics as an easy way to get merits.

I generally dislike self-congratulatory threads of this nature, so I'm not going to give out any merits or praise but ten years on the forum and becoming a staff member does deserve some respect, so that much I'll grant you.  Sticking around bitcointalk for that many years is kind of an anomaly I think; most newbies don't form attachments to the forum like you did, and when they get sick of doing bounties or get banned they just disappear.

And yeah, I like the old-school look of the forum too.  It hasn't changed much since I registered in 2015 except for some of the functionalities.  A consistent user interface is something that a lot of companies (ebay is a great example) just don't understand the importance of.  Who wants a website they visit frequently to keep changing appearance and other stuff every month?  Bleh.

It's always been somewhat of a mystery to me how one becomes a staff member.  I know reporting is a factor, but I'm not sure what else Theymos looks for.  Eh, just thinking aloud.

A decade has come and gone... congratulations on this remarkable milestone!

Regardless of any criticisms about whether it should have been announced in a new thread or not, the truth is that there are only a handful users who can boast such longstanding accounts.

Maintaining activity for such a long period is truly something to take pride in, especially on a forum that still operates on 14-year-old technology without a mobile app or responsive design. Unlike other platforms that have evolved over time, this forum has remained largely unchanged. Thanks to theymos :)

Once again, congratulations on reaching this momentous milestone. As for myself, I've been here for over 5 years now :)

It's never easy to survive a decade in an online forum unless you get something worthwhile out of it - I mean not only from the forum, but also from bitcoin [investing and trading]. I don't expect you to be the only staff member to want to celebrate - but you all deserve to celebrate such a milestone in the community.

EFS - congratulations to you, you deserve the high respect of the members of this community, including myself.

10 years of experience is definitely a lot to gain not only about how you made good new friends but you also became one of the people who experienced the ups and downs in bitcoin and of course the hope for you to be around longer must be realised because it is a shame if an experienced person just leaves the forum.
Congratulations to you for reaching this point and this is also an encouragement to me as someone who is still quite new here.
Thanks also to you and to the people who are always active and moderate the forum to keep it running.

Thanks for all the good wishes. I've never opened a thread like that before but I feel like ten years is a good achievement.

What I said about forum in last sentence was just a joke. I don't know when/if new forum software comes, I just like current forum and theme. I won't say no to better moderation tools though.

I see you also reached to be a staff here. Congrats to that to!  :)

Thanks. I'm a moderator since December 2013.

You have written it here as your first post, although I had to use Google Translate to understand your writing in Turkish.

I couldn't post my first post because of newbie restrictions at that time. Newbie jail is gone but I guess 6 minutes waiting time between every actions for Brand New accounts still exist.

Please be careful, some accounts take advantage of such topics as an easy way to get merits.

I'm aware of the situation but I guess they don't get rich with 2 merits. I also observe that merit circulation has dropped across the forum. Being a merit source is tiring and thankless work, I understand sources who give up distributing merits. Adding new sources brings vitality to the forum but it's up to Admins.

As someone who has given up on the forum twice for long periods of time, even though I had a lot to gain, I couldn't agree more.

Congratulations! I'm guessing that this decade has been quite fruitful, and I'm hoping that you squeezed every opportunity that was presented along your path. I'm also not far from closing one full decade; I signed up on December 7, 2014, even though I was browsing the forum without an account way before my signup date. It's crazy and awfully scary to think about how fast time progresses. We'll soon be 50 years old before we realize it.

What I said about forum in last sentence was just a joke. I don't know when/if new forum software comes, I just like current forum and theme. I won't say no to better moderation tools though.
Yes, 10 years is a long time, so it's totally worth it to get it. After all, 10 year anniversary thread like this are one of history, so I don't think you should feel bad just because you've never done this before.

By the way, congrats to you, EFS.
So far I've only had 5 years as an active user, but I think it's too soon to celebrate with the community so I don't need one of mine.

Sincerely speaking I admired your stayed over here for so long and I wish I had the chances earlier or having to know about here on time to have utilized all the good chances as I believed those who made their way here aren't in any way regretted belonging to this wonderful family. Lemme not go further as I know various wishes had already been demonstrated to you, So I and my little Angel wishes you a happy birthday although this might not be your physical birthday but to your forum username EFS.

From above profile your impact and contributions to this forum is greatly valued and appreciated because 10 years not 10 months but, something that has birth to many people here maybe if turned to normal life as we are currently 10 years in Marriage is like having a daughter of 9 years but viewing it from African way you might probably given birth to a daughter of 11 years since most of them gives birth before getting married.
Nevertheless I say congratulations to you sir and please never took my words into actions for my silly writeups.

Your posts are not always long but they convey the right message concisely and understandably. Combining your other engagements and moderating the forum is a big task but you have continued putting your best. Your testimony is the same as mine because the forum is also part of my life. I have also met many nice people that have motivated me to keep doing my best regardless of the hurdles we face every day. I have also been mentored by many members that have helped me to teach and help me develop from my newbie days till date. I also wish to spend more years and even introduce any of my young relatives who pick an interest in Bitcoin to continue from where I might stop. Wishing you more fruitful decades ahead.

10 years in this forum! How much dedication is required to successfully spend a decade on this forum. It's been 4 years since I joined this forum, now I can't seem to be as active as before. But seeing the dedication of users/staff like you motivates me to be more active and contribute to the forum. I am confident that the forum will be active in the next decade, and will see you posting after completing 20 years on this forum. ;D
Congratulations on 10 years.

vapourminer - of course this is a joke, but I think users like you deserve to celebrate here. Having over 1 decade on a forum is a pretty great experience - not many users survive that long if they are early adopters of bitcoin.

i probably snoozed through my 12 year anniversary. im pretty sure of that as i spend a lot of time snoozing, so the odds are good.

surprisingly, snoozing works very well with bitcoin. its like automatic hodl.

10: years have spent both presidential terms, it's a long time, whatever it is, many things you can't forget in life, impressive.
@EFS, I often visit the local turkish council and I know you there, although I never communicated directly with you, but you have guided the members in Turkey well and positively about understanding the Forum and Bitcoin perfectly, that's one step forward for turkish society in the last 10 years, those who don't know and don't understand, so, they know and understand how important this forum is and include your presence here. an honor that cannot be valued in money.

You registered earlier and got to know this forum 5 years from me, of course that's a gift for you and I'm also grateful to be able to get to know the forum and Bitcoin and I can understand the importance of the knowledge I got here, it all can not be separated from friends in this forum from all over the world / countries who have given knowledge to me so far.

I wish you health and longevity, so that the local community in Turkey can learn a lot from you, everything, especially forums and Bitcoin for the future.

2 013 is the time where people are still skeptical of Bitcoin. The users in the first few years of BTC are often the guys curious what BTC can do and give away 0.05BTC for a comment.

You were very lucky that you signed up for the forum 10 years ago because even in 2013 very few people were smart enough to know about Bitcoin and this forum, and to my surprise you are one of them. Your journey with this forum is truly inspiring and amusing at the same time, and it gives hope to others that sticking with Bitcoin and Bitcoin Talk forum is one of the best things a Bitcoin enthusiast does.

I congratulate you on your 10 years journey on this forum and I really wish that you would stay on the forum as long as the forum will be online. This forum is really our 2nd family and we all have really great times on this forum, some of us might not be that active while others are active since 2013 like you. I hope that you will stay with us and this forum for your whole life as this forum is truly a way for us to be determined with our goals and continue to grow better as Bitcoin lovers.

Just out of curiosity - EFS, tell me how much bitcoin was worth when you first bought it 10 years ago.
You must have bought it at very low - but what I'm most curious about is how you've overcome all the hurdles over the past decade. Hope you can share your experience here - obviously I would really appreciate that from you.

Not all of us had the chance to become bitcoin investors in its early days - but you are one of the many forum users who very likely has experience with it. I hope you have an interesting story about it.

IIRC it was less than $100 at that time. I made a lot of trades, used Bitcoin in goods and services. There was always talk that Bitcoin would rise, and we always believed in it. But until 2017, it wasn't believed that it would be able to realize such high potential.
When I first joined the forum, there was talk of the rally which happened a few months ago and those who registered on the same date as me were complaining that they were late to the party. I thought I was too late most of the time back then. We used to talk about the luck of those who learned Bitcoin in 2011-12 and became a member here.

It's not just about getting rich. For me, this has never been a priority. The freedom that Bitcoin promised was very appealing. I was living in a country where there were already problems with banks and government, and Bitcoin was always a way out. A large part of the society is still not aware of the advantages that Bitcoin brings. Therefore, even now I can say that to new members, it's not late.

EFS - the average forum user since I've known bitcoin seems to be encourage by the desire to make money rather than the technology. I'm not denying that I'm part of them too - but that's too narrow a mindset to stick with without wanting to change.

Bitcoin has provided many opportunities for any user to be able to take advantage of the innovation that comes with it - but sometimes regulations are still a barrier to adoption cases between them. So of course it's never too late if they don't just recognize bitcoin as an investment asset and ignore more of its innovation - but all in all I'd love to hear about those of you who may have adopted bitcoin before us.

Ten years isn't ten days that's about 3'650 days, @EFS I can only buy imagine how much contributions you must've contributed to the growth, development and stability of the forum all this years. Some of us newbies do wonder at times how and when are we going to attain such levels as yours but it's now done on me that the journey is a gradual process with a lot of hardwork and consistency as long as you know what you want.  Congratulations on your one decade journey in the forum.

I also use to think that I am late in the Bitcoin ecosystem. But your response is proof that one might never be late in the Bitcoin race because the price has not reached ATH. In a few years newcomers will wish they were here in 2023. The best thing one should do is to avoid procrastination and take advantage of the opportunity Bitcoin offers.

Sadly, people living in developing nations like mine is more concerned about poverty alleviation than privacy. They are more concerned about the financial benefit of Bitcoin than the freedom and privacy it offers. Maybe it will change in the future.

Congratulations for reaching this significant milestone in both the forum and the bitcoin world. Your contributions to the forum are much appreciated and will be remembered. Many people, including myself, would desire to be like you or walk in your footsteps to serve as inspiration. Great achievement and more success to you.

Sadly, people living in developing nations like mine is more concerned about poverty alleviation than privacy. They are more concerned about the financial benefit of Bitcoin than the freedom and privacy it offers. Maybe it will change in the future.

I believe that health should come before privacy and complete ownership of an asset or investment. Peace of mind and how to manage your finances will only come into play when you're fine and healthy, which poverty robs individuals of. Let the people be concerned about how to double their money with bitcoin if that's the only way they can get out of poverty and enjoy a happy life in this horrible economy.

Like I would always say... The best position one would find him/her self is section where you keep to do what you have passion and derives passions doing and at the same time you are being paid along the lines.
This is a situation where one would explore working on pressures and exhibits the pleasures of multitasking.

Dear OP, I am delighted of you being here for decades as said and I have just coming atleast better late than never which I am nowhere left behind.
I appreciates this forums so much in the fact that it has the capacity of unlimited storage information to be maintained for long periods, even for life with a declarative memory intense. Atleast I still have the opportunity to connect with all those missed even during your decade days at OP 😊.

I have always said this that this Bitcointalk Discussion forum is aimed to optimize a global intake aspirations triggering to networking people and explorating of individual possessions.

Worth gratitude being here, sharing and obtaining of ideal here and at the same time being rewarded. Wow. I am definitely contented with passionate ness of being here.
And if there could be a motion of leaving here for other software system, then I would raise a campaign alert that there is absolutely no necessity of leaving here though we can advance but with rest assured that some software updates sometimes lingers to the lost of its softwares operating system and the variety of utility the programs.

I AM MOST COMFORTABLE WITH INSPIRATIONS & ASPIRATIONS HERE.

A big congratulations to one of our best mods on this forum and our celebrant, 10 years is indeed worth celebrating, I myself have been here for 7 years now, and the journey have been nothing short of awesome, so far, I can testify that both this forum and bitcoin have changed my life completely, my story I believe a lot of you already know, since I've told it a couple of times on this forum.

I actually joined this forum through google, I remember searching something about bitcoin on google, and one of the results googled showed me came from this forum, I clicked, and after going around here, I decide to register, and since then, I joined this forum while working a 6 to 7 job in a local company, earning peanuts as salary every month, but in 2017, through this forum, I had the opportunity of starting my own business for the first time in my life, this was because I made a tangible sum of money from my participation in bounty hunting at that time.

So Bitcoin through this forum have changed a lot of lives, I join in celebrating you as you mark your 10 years here, and I look forward to seeing you do this again in another 10 coming years, and hope theymos never did find any reason to close this forum, for the forum have indeed become an important part of my life . ;D

Thanks for all the good wishes but 3 months passed. It's like celebrating a birthday late, there's no need for that.
I'm locking this thread. See you in 20 Years thread. :P
