Title: Someone help me solve this cryptowaves.app mystery
Post by: JeromeTash on August 13, 2023, 02:04:55 PM
I have been trying to access this site in vain, using different ISPs, browsers and IP addresses, but the site never loads, yet there are people in some crypto twitter space claiming that they are using it.

Link of the site: https://cryptowaves.app (a Crypto Market RSI Scanner & Tracker)

I checked several sites like https://isitdownorjust.me, and they all return the same response; that the site is perfectly working.

Even google has a snapshot of the site earlier today showing it's online: https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:dGAY_k8BHCAJ:https://www.cryptowaves.app/&cd=10&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=ug

What am I doing wrong? Is anybody else here able to access that site? Please let me know.

I can't access the site either. I tried a VPN but the same issue. It keeps returning: cryptowaves.app took too long to respond. It looks like they have a mobile app though, have you tried that?

It’s working for me, both with my regular IP and 2 different VPNs.

Have you tried a VPN?

It doesn't work for me either. I have tried with VPN too but the same result lol.

I tried with VPN as like above user said and also, checked on TOR browser but still, it's the same. It's quite interesting that some people can access the site while some can't lol. I have no idea why this would even happen for us when you can access this.

I just checked that on downforeveryoneorjustme (https://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/) and it says that the website is down for everyone.

I could not access it on my first and second try however it just worked after. I'm not sure what happened lol, perhaps intermittent down times?

I also dropped it on urlscan and it was able to picked it up, see: https://urlscan.io/result/26a2c6e9-87fb-476d-9e2e-af2828421bb9/

Hmmm I can still access the website.

Could you try to access from this link, see: https://www.cryptowaves.app/

I found that simply typing in cryptowaves.app doesn't work for me. I think I may have used the link from their twitter account on my 3rd try.

Great it worked when there is a prefix "www" in the URL. Their dev should just use redirection to the URL with "www" to avoid getting this error and to avoid lossing their potential users. It's easy to config for www redirection though.

It works if you include "www". It doesn't if you don't.

We are all accustomed these days to including/excluding "www" at will, since every major site will redirect you to the correct landing page, but www is actually a subdomain. Type in www.bitcointalk.org and you will redirected to https://bitcointalk.org. Type in reddit.com (http://reddit.com), and you will be redirected to www.reddit.com. The owner of this site simply hasn't configured their top level domain to redirect to the www subdomain.

It's a DNS issue

If you look up cryptowaves.app you get : 162.255.119.113 which goes to namecheap where the domain is registered.

If you look up: www.cryptowaves.app you get all the information for heroku which is where it runs.

    alias = powerful-pumpkin-jp0rxzcpyumcnz5az60yqpuq.herokudns.com.
powerful-pumpkin-jp0rxzcpyumcnz5az60yqpuq.herokudns.com.
    3.220.57.224
powerful-pumpkin-jp0rxzcpyumcnz5az60yqpuq.herokudns.com.

    52.20.78.240
powerful-pumpkin-jp0rxzcpyumcnz5az60yqpuq.herokudns.com.
    54.91.59.199

As a side comment heroku is owned and run by salesforce which has had some security issues (who hasn't) but also some privacy issues.

Just because the developer says it's secure you still don't know what is going on with the back end.

Definitely looks like there were some server-side DNS issues. "https://cryptowaves.app" did not work on the first try, but once I accessed the website with the "www" prefix, it started working both with and without the prefix.

The domain is already 2 years but was updated only this April the admin may have not aware that he is losing visitors by not creating the right redirection when I'm launching a site using a Cpanel using any script there's always an option to launch through a direct domain or with www. The webmaster might have picked the domain with www. when launching the site and failed to create a redirection.
