how to find how many members and who have different kind of badges?
You're going to have to check all profiles to find them all. Good luck :P

Aren't those personal badges only temporary? I recently observed one on PowerGlow; I'm guessing it has something to do with useful SMF patching work. Others, I know, are contest badges.

Unless you wish to make something out of it, those are nothing. Those that won the pizza contest wear one as well. Don't lose sleep on it.

Fortunately, the OP has plenty of time (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5462939.msg62680792#msg62680792) to move in that direction, although I doubt he would ever succeed in it, considering that he very often asks this kind of pointless type of question instead of looking for the answer himself.

Aren't those personal badges only temporary?

If we talk about some forum contests, it seems to me that the winner keeps the badges permanently, and the others get them temporarily, while for some other badges the status is permanent.

@gmaxwell (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5462674.msg62702264#msg62702264) has a badge called "Bitcoin expert" and there is no doubt that it is something permanent, although I have to admit that @achow101 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5463518.msg62705871#msg62705871) seems to have had a badge in the past that I can't see now (Bitcoin-Qt core developer). It is possible that (like some other things) badges can be removed on request.

I dont think you will find something like that where you will be able to know how many forum members have badges. Many of thr forum members have badges when they have done something for the forum and others got it from joining contest. As others have said, that's the only thing you can do which is to check each profile that has badge and then count it until you will no longer find a forum member that have badge.

If theymos do extract those infor from forum's database and make it public, sure it will but as of the moment, there's no info like that. So you have to find them manually.

Yeah, achow101 had a badge at one point (https://web.archive.org/web/20200802205031/https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3224039.msg33555285). I have to ask though, was the Bitcoin expert badge too through a contest or just a recognition that one is a very active bitcoin developer?

like this:

this one i found rare:
https://i.ibb.co/8cPx7zW/download-3.png

Is there nothing else to do with your spare moment?
How could you think of searching for members who has badges, and if I may asked is there anything or any sampling you wanna use them for?
Sometimes I hardly see such topic created mostly and if I may guess correctly, I have came across just few user which I didn't care to take records of their names.

Then I was partly right, because it seemed to me that he had a different badge, and I'm pretty sure that one of those old and experienced members had a Bitcoin-Qt core developer badge.

I am not aware that such a contest has ever existed, and the only logical explanation is that the admin made it as a small recognition for some members who deserve it for a certain contribution in the development of Bitcoin.

The link to their list is in Forum ranks/positions/badges (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178608.0) under Badges.

You can not find them by searching because in forum, you only have following options with Member Search.

Search by email address
Search by messenger nickname
Search by position
Search by name
Search by website

I try to search Badges by "Search by position" but it does not work.

Everything you listed is dead end. Badges are not a positions and neither is it anything, it just a random emoji/icon attached to some profile. Don't lose sleep on it.

The fact is that these are mostly old members, so you need to dig very deep, considering that members with such badges are mostly inactive for a very long time. Sometimes an old topic appears on the surface in which members with such badges can be found.

One of the examples is this very topic -> NSA and ECC (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=289795.0) and this one -> Thoughts on type safety and crypto RNGs (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=889427)

Those who contribute to this forum basically get such batch in their profile. This type of batch is usually provided to distinguish between normal users and important users of the forum.

If you enter the below link it will be clear what is the difference between profile batch of general users and profile batch of important users.

It can be removed by personal request or community request like Bitcoin developer @lukedashjr's wallet was hacked (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5432665.0).

After that hack, theymos removed the Staff position of Luke Dash Jr. account in Bitcointalk.

cafter can find more special badged users from [Interviews] with Bitcointalk members (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5262967.0).

There is no way to check that automatically. You have to check one by one. BTW you missed some badges like pizza competition & art competition.

Title: Re: how to know how many members have badges?

Badges for Pizza contests are temporary, not permament. Winners of this year Pizza contest have to defend to maintain their badges in a next year contest, if no change in Pizza contest rules.

Artist badges (permanent) for 5 winners of 10th year anniversary of Bicointalk.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5193860.0

I did not see the post of PX-Z (no reference link so my post looks acceptable with additional information) but by the way, notice difference between temporary and (likely) permanent badges for Pizza Chief and Artist.

With Pizza badges, OP has to update it each year if the contest is going to be hosted yearly in future.

Yeah, there is one profile I have seen from about 10 years ago with the badge, forgot the username.

There is also a badge for Bitcoin Core developers - jgarzik still has one (despite quitting Bitcoin Core ages ago), and gmaxwell also had one until a couple years ago.

Bitcoin expert badge is basically for people who know so much Bitcoin that they could rewrite the protocol from scratch (without internet access too, I guess).

Is this user NLNico (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=107762)?
yahoo62278 asked about NLNico three months ago. (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5453240.0) Not sure the user is still alive.

NLNico has a thread Overview of Bug Bounty Programs for Bitcoins (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=483195.0). Some bug bounties have up to 100 BTC reward.

Since you added taufik123, you have to add these fours members too... if you know these five members including taufik123 where the Winner of 10th anniversary art contest (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5193860.0)

If you are collecting badges how about custom titles?

It's also one of kind if you ask me and not a simple process to get it... one user got it  :)

Negligible as it may seem,
I have the feeling that, it’s a honor indeed for the few who are honored with these badges won from a contest, art or pizza, quizzes or what have you on the forum. I hope they don speak for themselves but then, it serves a motivating factor for the few that takes these contest seriously else, why have periodic organizations of these events.

Some don’t even come with incentives, maybe it’s just for the fun of the event but these badges alone or having yo wear it for a year means something and counts for that period through history on the forum.

Self printed once doesn’t make much sense but, being honored by the community definitely makes the badge worth the time you would wear it.

I wouldn’t border myself over this or who wears what but, it would honor me to have one of these unique once from the forum. Think of pizza and think of fillippone’s badge, that’s selling the name!

When I look a Administrator (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5247383.msg62414912#msg62414912) post, That pizza badge is just temporary for the next 3 months (16 June 2023 - 16 September 2023), and maybe cyrus forget that badge just extended 1 month from now.

https://i.ibb.co/Tw9Zqbj/image.png
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=3000000
That 3 million user is very special, I don't know why they don't make it also for 1 million (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1000000), and 2 million (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2000000)?
Just four K hundred plus left until we reach 4 Million members.

In fact, bitcointalk is 1st top rank (https://www.forumrankings.net/category/computers-and-internet) as Computers and Internet category which have 3 million members plus.

I am (as usual) very late to the party--and by that I almost always mean "the thread"--because I didn't notice this one until now.
https://i.ibb.co/Tw9Zqbj/image.png
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=3000000

I think I was vaguely aware that there was some kind of kudos given to the 3 millionth registered member, but I didn't know they got that as their username.  I was wondering if that lucky member had made some productive posts and was chagrined to see that this is the last one I was able to view:

Looks like it's all spammers here.  >:(
Oh well.  I don't recognize the usernames of many of the members whose avatars are shown on the first page of this thread, and I'll bet a lot of them are OGs who took their bitcoin wealth and are now sipping on some kind of drink with an umbrella sticking out of it whilst basking in the warm sun on a private island.

Yep, that's one hell of an assumption but I like to assume big when I think about the early members of the forum.   :D

That's the most important thing you have missed but no problem now you added Satoshi into the list and now the list is almost complete. By the way, this is a very good thread for the ones who want to know about the members with unique badges and titles.

Yeah, I think your assumption is to the point and I also think that most of the members on the first page of the thread are the OGs who are truly happy with the wealth that they have acquired because of Bitcoin and surely they might be having very enjoyable life in places where they can fulfill their desires and enjoy their life.

But, I also think that some of them might have spent their complete wealth on material pleasures and now they might be struggling once again. As humans when we see a lot of wealth for first time we waste most of it in unnecessary things and unfortunately we can't have that wealth again in our life.

I missed the most important member of the forum: @satoshi,
I think he needs an unique badge then any other profile, like the shiny coins are different.
-snip
you missed this guy too MoparMiningLLC (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1478835), I don't see him on the "collection", the user has a custom title.

also, I just want to inform you, in case you missed it, that the image for Corrosive on the Original post is currently showing "bitcointalk.org image proxy: invalid image"

Interesting collection, but I have a few questions though.

Why is Peter Todd on the list? He isn't wearing a custom badge, and his profile looks the same as mine or any other Legendary member.
I wouldn't say that hilariousandco and mprep have custom titles. They are members of the forum staff, and all of them mention the positions they hold on the forum. So, you will come across, Staff, Moderator, Global Moderator, and Admin. They are either all special (custom) or none of them is.

What is unique about certain members is the color of the fifth coin (if they are Legendary). You will notice three different styles: yellow-blue, yellow-white, and yellow-green. I don't know if this is exclusive to the moderators or you have the option to change that color if you are a Donator/VIP.

Removed Peter Todd now, don't know how it got added just was a mistake.

lol, I added them because there are only two global moderators on the forum.

In fact, and for quite some time, there have been 3 GMs. You forgot: Mr. Big (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=553678).
His custom title is a bit misleading (and I don't know the origin).

Is this badge permanent or does it has a time limit? Along with badge I saw some users with custom title. Can't remember exactly where but yes, it did spelled out as custom title.

I think these badges are awarded to some specific users who are good at something and contributed enough to the forum,
the badges and custom titles are given by global moderators and admin (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4549955.msg40978788#msg40978788)
for more information you can read this post (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178608.msg1861412#msg1861412) by John (John K.)
